You are Captain WILLIAM PIERCE, a combat rescue officer of the United States Air Force.

"...and that's what happened." You say as you finish recounting your story to both Kelsey and Anderson, who were listening about your visit to Strana Mechty with great interest.

"Hm, yes. We've had our suspicions that Putin or somebody affiliated with him was Sirius." Anderson nodded. "It makes sense. Helping us makes his rivals in GRU look bad, further cementing his position, and since he's not the one directly taking action, none of it can be traced back to him. Pretty damn devious."

"Still, I'm concerned about the return of the Martians." Kelsey frowns. "Shouldn't your people be worrying about that?"

"Well, half the intelligence community believes Putin's story or are at least willing to give him the benefit of the doubt." Anderson shrugs. "My personal opinion? I wouldn't trust the guy further than I can throw him. If he's so good at backstabbing his own side, what does that say about he does to his enemies?"

"So you think he's just taking advantage of our fears for a personal agenda." Kelsey narrows his eyes.

"Like very other person on this planet." Anderson shrugs.

Both Colonels then turn to you, as if expecting you to add something to the conversation.

"Well said." Anderson nods. "And even then, it's not as if we don't have contingencies in case of that event."

"Either way, it was a tough mission, and I'm glad everybody came out of it all right." Kelsey grins. "In addition, while you were out, I received a very peculiar request."

"Peculiar?" You raise an eyebrow.

"Apparently, the Emperor has invited you to dinner." Kelsey hands you a small envelope. "It will be later tonight, for just you and one other person. He's up in Seoul right now on a PR trip, but we can get you out there before sundown. I know it's short notice, but he seemed really eager to talk."

When I think about it she hasphysical traits we already have from other girls in Frank's group so besides the surprise she wasn't Merlin/Laika size, she was meh in the 'wow' department.

"Well, it's not like I can refuse." You chuckle. "I mean, who declines an invitation from an Emperor?"

"That's a good point." Kelsey laughs. "We've got a C-130 scheduled to fly out at 1600. Make sure you get there on time."

"Yes sir." You nod.

"And remember, you're not just representing yourself or the Air Force, but the entire United States as well. Please don't fuck it up."

"I'll keep that in mind, sir." You laugh.

"Good. Dismissed." Kelsey salutes and waves you off.

"You're getting rather popular among the Japanese inner circle." Anderson grins as he walks out of the office with you. "You ever consider going into politics? With your reputation and Lieutenant Foster's connections, you'd probably make President in a couple decades."

"Wait, you know about me and Janice?" You blink.

"Me and half the goddamn base!" Anderson cackles. "You don't do a good job of keeping it on the down low."

"I suppose not." You sigh.

Except we've already banged one of those in the 2nd tier, and have come close several times in the past with Mav.

But 1st tier are indeed for bringing breakfast to bed in, I still want drawfaggings of Ice in a sheer white babydoll, Slider in nothing but a flannelette shirt thats a little too big for her, and Katya in black lace lingerie, lying together in bed while we bring them breakfast after a long night of fun together.

Brigette, (Bridgette? Brigete? I always forget how Ghost spells it) is self admittedly not in our harem though, just a friend with benefits. I don't think we've actually been interested in Mav either, though I guess that depends on how you look at it.

But the second part I agree with completely.

"Oh god no, I've made it a habit to stay as far away from politics as possible." You wince. "I like to shoot my way out of problems, if you know what I mean."

"Too true, too true." Anderson laughs. "That's why I've always loved SOCOM. More focused on getting the job done than getting tied up in red tape and bullshit. Anyways, I'll be seeing you, Captain."

With that, Anderson gives you a quick salute before breaking off. You head back to the barracks alone, where you find Janice, Red, and Tarin in the mess, apparently playing Jenga with Laika.

"Wait, you mean the tower ISN'T supposed to fall?" Laika asks, confused.

"Yes, that's how it's supposed to work." Red sighs.

"I still don't get it."

"Hey, girls." You greet them as you walk in. "Where are the others?"

"Oh, Ghost and Nungesser are off 'helping' the crew get the Ghost Hawk fixed." Red shrugs. "Jetstream and Euclid are taking a quick trip to Tokyo to meet some relatives. What's up?"

"Oh, well, I just got invited to dinner by the Emperor himself." You grin. "And I can bring one person along with me."

"No, you should all stay on base." You shake your head. "That dinner is probably going to be crawling with Royal Guard and Japanese SF, and I'd rather not risk Laika getting exposed."

"Fair enough." Tarin nods. "Just a suggestion."

"But I want to go!" Laika pouts.

"How about this, Laika." You smile as you kneel in front of her. "Next time we get back stateside, I'll take you Disneyland, okay?"

"R-really?!?" Laika's eyes widen like dinner plates. Even in Russia, children have heard of Disneyland, though to them it was a mythical place that probably didn't exist.

"Really." You laugh and ruffle her hair. "So just sit tight and wait for us to come back, okay?"

"Okay!" Laika smiles.

"Always spoiling the children, are you, Captain?" Janice chuckles.

"Oh, as if you're one to talk." You smirk. "Are you ready to go?"

"Hm, let me prepare a few things and then we'll be on our way!" Janice starts heading for her room.

"So, what's the occasion?" Red asks while you wait.

"No clue." You shrug. "The invitation was totally out of the blue."

"Hey, maybe he's planning to adopt you as one of his sons, or something!" Red grins. "And then he'll give you a big harem of girls to choose from!"

"I think you've been watching too many of those cartoons, Red." You sigh.

"ANIME, Cap! There's a difference!" Red pouts.

"Yeah, whatever you say." You smile.

"All right, all packed!" Janice says, walking down with a travel bag. "Have you thought of what to wear?"

"All right, then!" Janice says happily. "Red, Tarin, I expect you to hold down the fort while we're gone. And make sure Laika doesn't get into trouble!"

"Sure thing, Janice." Red says.

"And that means NO SWORDS OR KNIVES." Janice says sternly.

"AAAAAWWWWWWWWW." Red and Laika both wail.

The both of you head over to the plane that's supposed to shuttle you to Seoul. As expected, it's just a regular C-130 going on a supply run. You and Janice strap in on the side seats and endure the long, uncomfortable ride.

"You think the Emperor could loan us a private jet for the ride back?" You muse.

"It would make things far more convenient." Janice nods.

Fortunately, the ride isn't really that long at all, at least compared to the flight from Washington to Tokyo. The C-130 touches down in Seoul without incident, and as you and Janice disembark, you see two suited men waiting outside near a black sedan. You see the small pins on their suits bearing crest of the Japanese Royal Guard.

"This way, Captain." One of the guards says in almost perfect English. "We will take you to an area where you can be more appropriately dressed."

"Thanks." You nod as you and Janice hand your bags to the second guard, who dutifully takes them and places them in the trunk of the sedan.

The two guards are nice enough, but are completely silent for the whole trip. They stop at a small building just outside the airport, which is crawling with more similarly suited men, as well as Royal Guard in tactical gear.

"This is our temporary security headquarters." The first guard explains. "There should be enough privacy here for the two of you to change into more appropriate attire.

You and Janice are led to a small locker room, where you each take a stall. You quickly swap out of your normal fatigues into your formal uniform and step out, briefly inspecting yourself. It seemed like everything was there and in order.

Then, Janice walks out. However, instead of her own formal dress uniform, she is instead dressed in a traditional Japanese kimono, with her long hair tied back in a ponytail. You wonder when exactly she got something like that.

"Well? How do I look?" Janice says as she spins around to give you a full view.

You try to say something, anything, but your jaw just flaps open and shut uselessly as words fail to come out.

"Oho, I thought so." Janice grins and leans in for a kiss, pressing her lips against yours. The contact finally snaps you back to reality. "You don't look too shabby yourself."

"It's not like I'm wearing anything different." You point out.

"True." Janice chuckles.

"So, uh, when and where exactly did you get that?" You point to her outfit.

"Oh, Jetstream actually gifted to me. She said it didn't really fit her, anyways." Janice smiles. "Though honestly, it's hard to imagine a girl like her wearing something like this!"

Honestly, you never imagined Janice wearing something like this, either.

"All right, shall we go, then?" You ask, taking her hand.

"Mhm! Let's go!" Janice nods.

Of course, the restaurant is a very, VERY fancy place. However, it was a weird contradiction of being extremely extravagant, as well as extremely discreet at the same time. The decoration and design of the restaurant looked to have been ripped directly out of the Royal Palace in Tokyo, yet the restaurant itself was hidden away in a very boring looking and nondescript office building.

The two of you are led through a small back hallway, lined with Royal Guards, both witch and mundane, until you finally reach a small private booth where the Emperor sits alone.

"Ah, Pierce, Janice, it is so nice to see you again!" The Emperor bows and you and Janice bow in return. "It has been too long!"

"Well, it hasn't been that long." You say.

"Perhaps, when you are young." The Emperor laughs and takes Janice's hand and kisses it. "And you are lovely as always."

"Oh my, thank you, Emperor!" Janice giggles.

The both of you then sit down at the table while a waitress pours tea for the three of you.

"Now, I'm sure you two have been through a lot since we've last met! Would you regale this old man with some of your stories?"

"Well, we haven't been doing much since we last crossed paths in the United States." You grin. "Mostly, we've just been testing new equipment, like brand new strikers and planes. Did a couple of missions on the side, but nothing too special."

"I see, I see." The Emperor nods. "Is that so?"

"Pretty much." You shrug. "Also, how is Katsumi doing, by the way? I actually haven't seen her since the whole rescue mission."

"She is doing very well!" The Emperor responds happily. "She is already back on active duty and has already participated in a number of decisive battles!"

"I'm sure she did very well." You nod.

"Yes, yes, though it is rather regretful that she never managed to gain revenge on the White Butterfly for downing her. It would have been poetic, no?" The Emperor chuckles.

"Um, yeah, it would have." You nod. You weren't sure if it was safe to mention anything about Laika to him.

At this point, the first courses start to arrive. Bowls of hot miso sip and dishes full of fish and other assorted seafood are placed in front of you.

"I hear the war effort on the Japanese front in Korea is doing well?" Janice asks as she begins filling her plate.

"My guards would not have let me step foot in Korea if that wasn't the case!" The Emperor chortles. "But yes, our armies have steadily been pushing the Chinese north. We expect to reach our original borders within the month."

>>
>>37629438
>>And what will you do then?
>>
>>37629614
MacArthur could have done it though or at least beat the North Koreans.
>>
>>37629729
He *did* beat the North Koreans. That's not in dispute.

The salient problem is he wanted to launch a full-scale invasion of mainland China using Nuclear Weapons. Which is monumentally idiotic on it's own merits, but even more so considering that by the time he suggested that, the Soviet Union also had nukes.

Besides, the only great skill MacArthur's ever shown is at coming out of his monumental fuckups relatively clean.
>>

Where is MacArthur in all this anyway?

Long dead, i'd assume, given it's 1990.

In period SWQ? Being a dumbshit in the Pacific, IIRC.
>>
>>37629925
He died in the 60's in our time. Unless he's got a top-tier Healwitch wife, he's dead here too.
>>37629968
He also got impersonated by General Bradley so he could tell BTFO of Joseph Kennedy for being a giant dick.
>>
>>37629998
Which has the side effect of trolling MacArthur as who do you think the family'll blame for this?
>>
>>37630056
Given MacArthur's ability to get away with some damn near criminal levels of idiocy(possibly his Gnome power), I wouldn't be surprised if he managed to weasel his way out of that controversy.

"And what will you do then?" You ask.

"Nothing." The Emperor says simply.

"Wait, what?" You ask. "Care to explain further?"

"I may be the Emperor, and I may be old, but I am not foolish." The Emperor sighs. "I know that Japan, even with the aid of the Korean Defense Force, does not have the numbers or the logistics to press beyond our borders. I fear that as an empire, we have reached the limit of our expansion."

"Yeah, that is a legitimate concern." You nod. "And you can bet the Chinese will fight your for every inch of territory."

"Very much like how we fight for our own. For all of our differences, that is one thing we share in common." The Emperor nods. "And it is on that subject that I move on to the true reason why I called you here."

"I suppose it's not for an autograph." You joke.

"Will!" Janice smacks you on the shoulder.

"Haha, not quite!" The Emperor chortles, but his expression quickly become somber again. "This is a question I must ask you not as a Captain of the US Air Force, but as a family friend."

Oh man, this sounded pretty serious.

"What is the question?" Janice asks, her eyes narrowing.

"What would you say if I granted Korea it's independence from Japan?" The Emperor asks.

Wait... did he really say what you think he just said?

"Korean sentiment towards foreigners now is low, they have long held to thier history of independent rule and granting it would firmly turn Korean opinion in japan's favor."

"Honestly, I think it's up to you." You scratch your head. "I mean, you're the EMPEROR. Isn't whatever you say law?"

"Ha. Of course you Americans find the issue so simple." The Emperor smiles. "Actually, this was something I had been thinking about a long time."

"Why are you willing to let go of your largest colonial possession?" Janice asks.

"When you grow old, you begin to think about things, and look back to the past. I see imperial powers like England, France, and the United States letting go of their colonies, and I realize Japan stubbornly tries to keep its grip on the past. I think it is time to move on. To prove Japan has what it takes to advance and better itself."

"It sounds just like you to say that." You grin and nod. "But I can't imagine everybody would agree with the status quo changing like that."

"Oh, I do not expect such a thing, either." The Emperor nods in agreement. "Many of my advisers and members of my court have warned me against it, though I think it is mainly because they fear of what might happen. They're too stuck in the old ways to be able to change effectively."

"Well then." You raise a glass. "To change then."

"To change." Janice smiles as she raises her own glass.

The Emperor pauses briefly before smiling.

"To change, then."
