The last few days have been good. Better.
The air has been cooler- the breeze is picking up again, and the humidity is leaving finally.
Esmerelda complains, but all in all, it's a relief.

You want to sleep covered in blankets and cozy again.
And Sheszka can only be an air conditioner for bits at a time.

Not that she didn't try, but wearing yourself out till you can't stand straight doesn't work too well.

Well, the morning air is moving, wind carrying the scent of dew through the trees. The leaves haven't changed colour yet, but fall is on its way.
You even double-checked with Mom, to make sure seasons were a thing.

Winter will probably be okay. You are vaguely worried about snow monsters, though.
Oh well.

Of bigger concern- You're starting to feel restless again.
You've been all over your swathe of forest, and eaten just about one of every thing living their.
The nest feels small.

No, not small.
Crowded.

You yawn.

>Stretch, relax. Take the morning easy.
>Maybe it's time to do something about your itch. Make some plans.
>Burn off some energy. Go run something down.

SOUTH TO HUMANTOWN.

Though I'm really surprised elle hasn't asked us to help her settle in town yet.

We should get Elle, Sara, the blacksmith, and Lyra together and have them design some armour.

Elle was looking for new challenges, Sara will probably be happy to try new enchantments, and several of our friends could use some improved protection.

There is a small ring of mountains on the way to the land bridge. If there be dorfs there, I'd like to see them. We'll learn some metallurgy, kill some dragons, then we go and harass our relatives.
>>
>>37637968
South first? I'd say go West. Gives the anons that want to explore more of the Forest before leaving the chance to do that. That would lead us to the mountains and the chance to meet our Tinyspider cousins.

Then we can head towards the land bridge, passing human towns on route to Elfa Elfa island to confirm Elf-Fangs.

I don't wanna skip the nearest human city.

So we are just gonna wander into the elf village unannounced right? And if anyone questions us we just say. "It's ok I am half-elf yes." and keep walking right?

When ever we go to the elves anyway
>>
>>37637968
Elle wanted to settle in the village first, and then move to the city later.

>>37638028
I think dorfs only live in that mountain range in the south. So we have to choose between visiting either dorfs or elves on the first part of the trip.
>>
>>37637918
We really need to pester her about why she became a Half Gem Lord, untill she just blurts out that she collects shiny rocks. And then laugh at her embarassment.
We also need to point out that we're the only one who actually evolved into something that isn't a half lord.
>>
>>37638079
Although the one on the river would be the fastest journey, because river, there isn't much difference between the two distance wise.

Heading for the one in the South West would let us see more things without back tracking.
>>
>>37638083
When the time comes, we will, of course, take the option that's the funniest. Funniest to us anyway.

That might give us a chance to alternate between "I am a Giant Spider" and "I am a Half Elf." Could be fun.
>>
>>37638118
We're skipping that and going full lord.

>>
>>37638572
So when do we staaaaart.

Also, when do we get to throw piles of wagons and houses at some guy with a sword?
>>
Sleepiness notwithstanding-
There's stuff to do.

Maybe more so now than before.

You were ready last night. You aren't a child. You learn from your mistakes!
So instead of trying to escape from the monster pile, or trying to carry them all, you planted a Map and an 'exploration' book nearby.

There is a bit of wiggling to stretch long enough to reach them, but you can't have everything.

The map is Dad's- More than a little beat up, and covered in notes to boot. As well as the location of gods know how many dungeons and ruins.
He has something of a one-track mind.

Your finger gently finds its place on the wide square of parchment- A little house sketched hastily into a tree.
Home.

From there, you trace your way down the river, past the ruins, till you reach Oakring.

The map expands the further south you look- North is rather hastily filled with trees and the general location of Mountains. Guesses at Lakes and so on. The forest is not particularly mappable. Or friendly, for that matter.

But south- the river leads to a trade city, surrounded by towns and farm communities. Westward is Lann's home, and further still is the elven isle. Peninsula. Whatever.
Your lack of geographical terms can be safely ignored. Or remedied, if you cared to try and ask Dad about it.
He gets a little excited about teaching, though. And then he breaks out the equivalent of university material, when all you anted to know was a word.
>>
>>37638599

East in the second continent leads to the mountains, which are apparently full of dwarves. You probably should have asked the merchants visiting for the festival, but you slept for more than a little while the day after. Messing with your sleep schedule is not appreciated.

And further south are cities and ruins, even a desert. All sorts of things, yes.

Wolf is a jumping spider, Orb is a weaver spider, Grave is eating-huge-things spider.

Meanwhile we've got Lords for super-weapon skill, gems obsession and star magic.

That's probably how we would've done the hydra if we were solo.

But aside from that, we don't have many high-epic fight opportunities around.

Also, we got a crowd on us that is quite far below our badassery grade (yes, Jin and Shezka are second evos, but harpies and wolves are a step below from arachne, so their seconds are closer to our first in power. Nin can at most flutter around. And we'll have to hoist our snake scarf onto somebody else if we start powerforging unless we cook her with heat.)
>>

Half-lords weren't even on our potential evo.

We also reached Wolf-spider.
>>
>>37639988
Actually, REQM said we could have been a half-lord if we turned down grave.
>>
>>37639988
We had qualified for Half-Lord, Wolf and Grave by the time of our evolution, only we had overqualified for Grave, which is why it was offered first.
>>
The atlas- Well, 'exploration' book, anyway is some halfway between an actual atlas and your father's journal. Full of corrections, names and dates, cities- all sorts of things.

You skim pages, looking for the elflands. It doesn't matter what they were called before, they're the elflands now.

Ah. Here you are...
A peninsula separated by a land bridge- the tides rise and fall over it daily, leaving caravans to build up, then race across. A city formed at the entrance, of course- doubling as a port town as well as the main road to the elven lands, since its creation it has swelled into one of the largest cities in the world.

Also, it is apparently full to the brim with half elves. And everything else.

The actual peninsula is a mish-mash of provinces and property, owned by families stretching back into ages past. Your father's hometown is marked out with another house, this one close to a circle drawn with a flame near the centre.
Which means nothing to you whatsoever.

You'd think he'd put a legend on the map, but that'd likely be asking too much.

There's notes on monsters and the like in the area- A few of the families host hives apparently. Bees are common to the elven lands, though competition between hives is common. Colonies of mermaids live in different areas around the coast. And a sahuagin problem, apparently. Fish people.

Like the lizards, maybe?

You try to dip into the history section- and quite quickly discover that it is less a history of the area, and more a genealogy of every elven family that the author decided was important.
Six pages of names and dates later, you've abandoned your attempts and started poking different monsters.
>>
Any ideas on what might happen if we go full dungeoneering and battlefield shaping?
>>
>>37640054
You get a yawn from Sheszka, a bit of blinking and a sleepy smile. And then she lies down again.
Nin simply curls up further, wrapping her blankets tighter and murmuring.

You manage to get Ezzy up and moving, at least.

"Mwaaaaaaah- Lyra? What isss it?"

You heat yourself, ever so slightly, and point towards the map as the snake curls tighter.
"I was wondering, yes? If there was anywhere you wanted to go?"

She tucks her arms under her blanket- an oversized napkin, really, but telling her that would just get your hair pulled again.
"A map?"
"Of the continent, yes."
"Where are we?"

"Up here, yes? This one is our home- This is the village. And your home should be... Here, yes?"
"It's far away."
"Everything is far away. But there is the boat, or caravans, or walking-"
"Caravans?"

"Hmm. When people want to move supplies, they group up, yes? So they can be safer."
"Like you and everyone else?"
There's the sarcasm.

"I am thinking that I would not be able to escape them, in any case."
"Mhm. What were you looking at, then?"
"The elf lands, yes. My father's home."
"That seems much farther than mine."
"Weeks, likely."

"How would you even get there, then?"

You sit your chin on your fist, brushing the lamia's scales with your thumb as you think.
There's a lot of arguments for each, really. And no real reason you couldn't do them all, in time.

But if you're headed to the elflands... Hmm.

"Probably a caravan, yes."
"Mmmm- Ah. Why?"
You tap the paper again, tracing the main roads, through the trade city, towards the elflands.

"Caravans need goods, guards, and a destination. And each city is large- There would always be someone moving from place to place."
"It sounds like a lot of work."
"Not for you. They'd probably hitch me to a cart, yes."
"I think it would take more than one to make a difference."

You smile lopsidedly.
"Probably. But we know people in the guild- Getting hired as a guard would be easy, I think. And if it really came down to it- Well, I am an arachne, yes."
"Yes?"
"Humans pay very well for our silk. I could pay our way onto the caravan. Or act as a merchant. All sorts of things."

"So you would just walk or ride from town to town?"
"Well- I am sure there would be monsters between them. And horses need to rest, sometimes."
The little snake is already giggling.

"I do not know what you are laughing about."
"Your sister is right about you, you know."
"Who?"
"All of them."

"I do not know what you are talking about."
"That you cannot sit still. Everyone else would take a break, and you would run off into the woods and chase monsters."
"Sometimes I take breaks, yes."
"I have been here for two months. You take 'breaks' when you can't move anymore. When you are too tired to do anything else."
>>
>>37641189

"I am a very active young woman, yes."
"You are a hyperactive child."
"And you are a ticklish snake."
"Wait- No, stop!"

Her laughter dissolves halfway into hissing as you peel her off your neck, pinning her with one hand and gently tickling up and down her sides- right where flesh dissolves into scales is her biggest weakpoint. She laughs incomprehensibly, pleading and slapping at your hand with her tail as you take your revenge.

She's in tears by the time you let up, barely breathing from laughing so hard.

"Haaah haaaa- Thisss changess nothing. Sssilly sspider."
You snort.
"Yes, yes, Hissy."
"I will bite you."

You stick out your tongue.

People are starting to wake up, at least. The day is beginning.

You could probably fidget back and forth arguing with yourself for hours, but there's little point in that.
Not when you could instead while away hours arguing with your family instead.

Ezzy spirals up your arm in a heartbeat, arranging herself at your throat with a huff, and you pull free of your friend-pile.
There's things to do, people to see!

Dad is carefully removing Sara's drooling face from a book, and Mom is arranging breakfast. The boys are already gone. Aria isn't visible, which usually means that she's unconscious upstairs, and won't be down till later.

So, it's Elle to start!

You skitter next to your sister, planting yourself down- She's already sewing, neatly stitching... a sleeve, it looks like?
You aren't the best at this sort of thing.

She keeps to her work for a minute or so, finishing the circle of stitching, tying it off and snipping the excess thread away before she turns to you, raising an eyebrow.
"Yes?"

"Are you going to leave?"
Esmerelda chokes, giggling and snorting as you put up your hands.
"Wait, wait. No. I mean, are you planning to leave the nest, yes?"

Elle laughs a little as you blush, waving her hand back and forth as you wait.
"Maybe to a city, yes? Or to start in the village. I am not sure. Why?"
You cross your arms, humming.
"Hmm- I am trying to what I want to do, yes? I was thinking of going to the elf lands first. Maybe along the trade routes, wokring with a caravan."

"Ah. Was doing everything all at once not an option?"
The snake is laughing again.
"Are you the one poisoning Ezzy against me? I am not that bad, yes."

"Not that bad at what, dearheart?"
Mom crawls up behind you, her hair already tied back, horns glinting in the morning sun.
"She thinks she can focus on one thing at a time, yes."

Mom looks down at you, mock pity written all over her face as she ruffles your hair.
"Oh. Oh, Lyra. My dearest."

You swat at her hand as everyone laughs.
Rats, all of them.
>>
>>37642786

"Fine, then. What about you, yes?"
"Me?"
"When you left home, where did you go?"
"Ah. Well, I wandered, yes? Town to town, dungeon to dungeon, ruin to ruin. Always something new to see."

"So I come by it honestly, then."
"Ah."
Elle shakes her head.
"Each and every one of you is mad, yes."

You ignore her.
"What do you think of caravans, then?"
"Hmm. It's a matter of finding one to take you. Some people are scared of monsters, yes?"
"If I start from the village it shouldn't be a problem, yes?"
"Well. Hmm, it would probably work."

"What would work?"
"Dear."
"Dad. Working with caravans to travel, yes."
"Too noisy, the wagons bounce a lot. You won't get any reading or writing done in good time."

"Not really a concern."
He shrugs while Mom pokes at him, smiling.
"Where were you planning on going?"
"Through the trade city, out to the elflands, yes."

"The... elflands?"
"Yes."
"They have a name, you know."
"I think 'elflands' is a good name."
"What would you do if people called this spiderforest?"
"I think they do, yes."

He frowns, shakes his head.
"The country is Ellsvier. Ruled by the Eternal Queen-"
"Can Lyra get that?"
"-What?"
"Good morning Nin. I am glad to see your priorities for waking up are straight."
"I know what's important."

Too many people. Blah.
"I thought elves weren't immortal, anyway?"
"It's just a title."
"I see."

You snag a seat beside your father at breakfast.
It doesn't really take any effort at all to get him talking about travelling, or history.
Stopping him when you're finished- well, that's different.

"-You just said there were lords everywhere, yes? Why a Queen then?"
"Because the Queen must rule- The most important of all-"
"Hush, Nin."

Your Dad laughs a little, choking on a piece of whatever this is. Mom burnt it pretty badly.
"The general idea is that she serves as a figurehead. Elaborate ceremonies, public things. The people like her, neighbouring countries like her. It helps diplomacy. And technically, the family the queens all come from own the land the castle sits on."
"Castle?"

You can feel the moth vibratin with excitement.
"Mhm. They call it the Seastone Palace."
"It is made of seastone?"
"Well, no."
"The stones came from the sea?"
"No."
"Then-"

"They have a very, very large garden, nearly all water. Filled with fish and such. Plants, all sorts of things."
"You seem to know a lot about the palace, yes."
"I've been a few times. When I was younger."
"They just let people in? Lyra, can we visit?"

He shakes his head.
"They don't really let peope wander the palace, no."
"Oh. What about you, then?"
"I, ah. I knew the queen. When we were children."

Oh, yes. That will stop her from questioning you. Admit to knowing queens.
Nin can't even manage words, squeaking and hopping from foot to foot.
"Not like that- She wasn't a queen when I knew her."
"A Princess!"

He looks at you, eyes pleading.
There's no mercy to be found, here.
"This is your fault, yes."
"Ugh. We played together when we were children. The Queen at the time named her when she died, so she became the new queen. But-"
He says, holding up a hand.
"-that happened after I had left."
>>
>>37644175

"Hmm. Were your families tring to arrange a marriage?"
Dad chokes again. This time without food.
"No. No, not like that- I was considered for a guard, but I refused."
"Not enough ruins in the castle, yes?"

He rubs the back of his head.
"Close enough."
"What was your home like, then?"
"Firescarn?"
"Yes?"

"Warm. All the time. And hotter the closer you went to the stone, of course. No towns- You can't build that close to elemental focal points, but there were plenty of farms around. And a town close enough, I suppose."
"For trouble?"
"You sound like my mother, little one."

"What about bees? Or mermaids?"
"There was a hive that wasn't too far. They're friendly enough, just... busy. All the time, always working. It's how they liked things."
"Your family?"
"My family? My family-"

He rolls his eyes, leaning back.
"My mother's family were the ones who owned the land- and she inherited their need to move up, as well. My father was a merchant- he settled down after he made his fortune, brokering deals and the like- He bought a few of the neighbouring farms, and somehow fell in love with my mother."
You snort.
"Mmm. And my sister- She took after our father. Found work, started a business of her own. I think she'd had contacts with a hive? She married fast, though. Our mother had wanted her to wait, so she could set something up, but she just went off and did whatever she wanted."
>>
>>37644202
He smiles.
"She was the last one I spoke to before I left. I told I was going, and she just started laughing. Said she was going to enjoy how red Mother would turn, and told me to get gone."
"She sounds fun, yes."
"She moved at her own pace. We didn't quite see eye to eye, but we got along."

You reach for another piece of meat, and your hand closes on nothing.
Breakfast is over, apparently.

You sigh.
"I will figure something out, yes. I have a few goals, at least."
"Rulership of all monsters! Queen of the forest and-"

You muffle Nin with one hand, thanking your father and stepping away.
Things to do, things to do-

I hope we meet our aunt when we head off to elf land. That and the fact when she sees her niece is a giant spider should be good for a laugh or two.

Also can we get some descriptions and a names of dad's family? Or will we have to wait till next thread? cause if you think we're going to elfland and NOT looking for our extended family then you just don't know us.

I've just had an amusing thought.
If Ezzy gets an evolution that comes with a significant size increase, but still insists on coiling around us...
If anyone were to come across us as we wake up wrapped in our friends, they will most likely run as far and as fast as they can...
>>
>>37644286
How would the elves view our father race mixing with spiders? Would they treat us the same as any other half elf?
Also how does Elven society treat half elves?
>>
>>37644572

So, is Sara's star magic elemental or more knowledge based? I imagine since she has been studying a lot, it's more the latter than the former. At the same time, she can actively speak to the element when it is present. Is there a chance she has both?
>>
>>37644797
We'll look if they treat half-elves well we'll be treated well. If they treat half-elves poorly, we'll still be treated well because who the hell wants to piss off a giant magma calling, earth controlling, metal master fucking spider, especially when you specialize in fire magic
>>
>>37644631
Biological math!

>>37644693
In some cases. It's also possible to get control without any magic.

>>37644792
Some sort of horrific spider chimaera?

>>37644797
It mostly depends on social standing- When elves are looking to make connections and marriages between families, they generally want both parties to be elves.
Of course, if there's enough gain to be made, they'll look the other way.
With commoners, it's the same as always. Some marry for love, some marry for money/inheritance/whatever, some are set up by their families.

There's a massive amount of half elves in the coastal city, because it's the primary point of contact with humans.

As for you- Realistically, you're whole arachne, with a few elf features. They'll treat you like an arachne.

You don't even speak elvish.
Yet.

>>37644948
Magic is by and large knowledge based. Cheating is possible when you can contact spirits. She has elemental control- Its much faster, but weaker than actual casting.

We should put him on the spot and demand venom for some important reason.
>>
>>37649228
Us and Ezzy were comparing how poisonous our Venoms were and we wanted to know how poisonous Dad's Venom was...

We could probably rope Sara into making it an actual study and we get samples from everyone...
