DAY 101

You hate these New York boys. They come up here, expecting to be Mr. Big Town Little Village, and they end up leaving in a tiff when no one wants to play along. They don’t like the weather, they don’t like the food, and by the time they’re shipping back to the Apple they don’t like you. You watch them from the seat of your (actually not yours. Sorry, Dean the Doctor, but you should’ve left your keys somewhere safer) car, as they swagger across the road toward the building opposite.

You are Joyce Rachel Green, and you have a real reason to hate these boys.

Earlier that morning, you were awoken by the squawk of your radio, but instead of rising to the pristine voice of James Taylor, Tom Petty, or one of the other reasons you keep yourself adhered to the same station day after day, you were treated to a bit of breaking news. There was a lot of chatter, but here’s what it boiled down to:

“Caution! Mutant at large!

“Suspect is in the area of fourteen years old! Male! Dusty blonde hair and green eyes! Last seen wearing a red hoodie and torn jeans! Suspect is thought to be related to a recent case involving militia action against mutants! Spotted in the area of Anchorville, Michigan!

“Suspect has recently developed an active X-gene! Consider armed and dangerous!”
>>
>(2/2)

That got you up pretty dang quick.

So now you’re in Anchorville. The blocky, squat building across the road is the base of operations for the local chapter of the Reavers. Before the new laws, they were a militant extremist group, but, like any snake worth their salt, they shed their skin real quick when things changed. Now they’re bounty hunters that specialize in bringing in mutants. You hate them so much it makes your guts churn and your skin prickle. You’re probably gonna kill them all, but first, you actually need to talk to these assholes.

You figure they must be gearing up for a manhunt, after all. Who else to better put you on the right course than a bunch of professional mutant hunters?

The New Yorkers chuckle at some private joke as they enter the building. You feel your blood boil.

>[ ] Walk in, start killing until someone talks.

>[X] Grit your teeth and play pretend

Sliding out of the car, you eye the trunk almost ravenously. You’ve got a whole slew of rare delights in there, liberated from mutie haters, cops, and extremely ill-informed bounty hunters. You’ve even got a grenade launcher – this ex-CIA guy who was keeping his orange-skinned son locked up in his crawlspace owned it. You got it checked out, and apparently it’s called a China Lake, and that’s a big deal. They’re like unicorns for gun nuts.

You were never big on guns (unless you count the bangin’ set you’ve got strapped to your arms), but you’ve come to understand the allure.

Unfortunately, today is possibly not a shooty day. You’re not all that great at aiming, so you might kill everyone before you can properly torture anyone, and there’s a good chance that they’ve got some scared kid locked up in there, waiting for a bunch of MCA boys to come down and give them a ride to one of the camps.

You grit your teeth. You’re going to have to be subtle.

“Sorry, buddy.” You pat the trunk. “Not today.”
>>
>>37661274
>taking sides
I sure hope not.
>>
>(2/2)

You make your way across the road, reminding yourself to drop your shades down. Your eyes have gotten kinda weird lately.

The tarmac beneath you glistens under the midday sun, heat rising in waves of palpable distortion. When you open the door to the place, you’re glad to find that, no matter how evil and debauched these soon-to-be dead motherfuckers are, they’re not quite evil enough to skimp on their air con. Your shoulders sag in delight as the blast of cool air rolls over you.

A whole bunch of eyes turn toward you. The front of the place is set up almost like a shop, or a hotel reception, with a desk cutting off half the room and keeping visitors well away from the corridor heading further back into the building. Six guys glance toward you, three of them on the same side as you – the boys from New York. The others are behind the counter. They’re bigger, moustachier, and meaner, kitted out in body armour and extremely Top Gun Revival shades. One of them is retrieving a trio of spruced-up hunting rifles from behind the counter.

You recognize their faces amongst the various photos plastered across the wall, mostly depicting a number of guys with guns smiling for the camera while they pose with their latest catch.

You feel snakes in your belly. You wish you could breathe fire.

“Hey.” You grin. “Uh, hi, guys. You folks hunting some muties?”

>Try to think of a way to kill them with their own moustaches

I've been trying for 5 minutes now and did not yet come up with anything except shoving them down their windpipe and maybe having them suffocate on that, though I doubt that would work.
>>
>>37661726
Maybe if you use them as hand grips and drove them face first into something lethal, like a buzz saw or belt sander?
>>
Weave them together into a fine string and use that to garrote the fuck out of them?
>>
>>37661754
Hair isn't that strong, as long as they're conscious they could move their heads to rip out their own mustaches.

>>37661761
Hair isn't strong enough for that, at least not in a fine string and I don't think we're gonna waste dozens of hours trying to weave a rope.
>>
>>37661761
Joyce should totally disguise garrote as a hair tie
>>
>>37661816
See, that would be a totally metal thing to do had Joyce not the sheer strength to crush their windpipes in her bear hands.
>>
>>37661791
Clearly you underestimate the power of the mustache.
>>
While we're discussing our weapon options, how about getting a good old, honest to god mace?

No matter how strong we are with a decent mace we could inflict even more damage (longer reach = higher speed at impact point = more force), would probably have to be something reinforced though considering how insanely strong we are.

If we want to get fancy we could get a nice replica of a medieval flanged mace, though that probably wouldn't last long.

Rip a basketball hoop out of the ground. Big metal stick with cement on the end.
>>

>>37661900
Maces are very hard to hide. And if you aren't worried about hiding your weapon you might as well go for a gun.

>>
>(1/2)

>[X] Ask to go with them.

“That’s what we do, darlin’.”

Your skin crawls. You fantasize briefly about shoving his head so far up his friend’s ass, he’s got teeth around his neck. It dawns on you, as the vision subsides, that that’s something you could actually do pretty easily. You’d just have to make sure you don’t grind him to paste getting him through his friend’s stomach.

“Cool.” You beam. Aren’t you just adorable? You wanna hang some muties and quote Bible stuff an’ shit! “You guys going after the one on the radio? The kid? 'Cause I was thinking I could maybe tag along...?”

Seems like these cowards mostly go after kids, after all. The pictures all over the walls say as much.

The guy nearest the counter sighs heavily.

“That was the plan. Unfortunately, the feds jumped on this one pretty quick.” You have to stop yourself from biting your lip. Dammit. “Caught him up near Fair Haven. In an hour or two they should be transferring him over the Huron, down towards the border.”

That’s not good. That’s not fucking good. You can’t have that. You can’t come this close and then just lose him again.

“…Miss?”

You blink, realizing that one of the New Yorkers is talking to you. Must’ve spaced out a bit.

“You alright?”

Don’t have to think all too hard about that.

“No, not really.” You rub your forehead, coaxing some of the stress out. You feel like there’s magma in your guts, working its way up and up and up… “This was just really important to me, you know? Anyway…”
>>
>>37661918
I don't know, a human corpse isn't every aerodynamic. I think ripping a light pole out of the ground would give better reach and speed. It would also only last two swings at best but what are you going to do.
>>
Bucket of half bricks. (/round-ish stones)

Seriously, with super strength, its like canon balls.

Otherwise just grab nearest road sign, enemy, or concrete block.
>>
>(2/2)

You grab his arm. He stares at you with big bewildered eyes, torn between the conflicting urges to either extricate himself or wait and find out what this feisty country gal wants with him, until you push his elbow and 90% of his forearm through his torso. Then he doesn’t really do anything except flop to the floor and bleed everywhere.

“Holy shi”–

The guy closest to the counter scrabbles for one of the rifles. His friend who was setting them out has one in his hands immediately, a shot aimed and fired within almost less than a second. It does him little good – your head jerks back as the round pings harmless off your skull, but any damage the bullet causes is purely superficial.

You’ve been getting tougher, harder. You don’t even need your armour for shit like this anymore. Maybe if they had a tank, it’d be worth getting all carapace’d up, but unless this place is hiding a great deal more storage room than you’d guess, you doubt it’ll come to that.

The remaining two New Yorkers press themselves up against the counter, utterly terrified. One of them is fumbling with a knife, but that is less that irrelevant here.

>[ ] Rip and tear. This will be satisfying but might take time.
>[ ] You know what the coolest thing about being invulnerable is? You can basically let a grenade go off in your palm and you don’t feel shit.
>>
>>37661917
Doesn't look very stylish though, also pretty thin compared to the weight at the end, would deform after a single hit, I want something that lasts for at least one fight.

>>37661918
People are even more floppy than that basketball hoop, also they leak all over the place.

>>37661925
Guns make decent melee weapons too if applied with enough force and I'm not worried about hiding shit, I just thought of maces because that would make a pretty badass picture.

>>37661963
If we don't actually hit anything as hard as concrete a full steel mace (grip not hollow) should last a while, especially against people in body armor for example, that's exactly what blunt weapons were made for.

>>[ ] You know what the coolest thing about being invulnerable is? You can basically let a grenade go off in your palm and you don’t feel shit.

I'd love to take my time with those two assholes but time is of essence here. Wait too much and the trail will go cold. Just poke their heads, nice and easy. Will look like a gang execution too if you do it just right, like a point blank shotgun blast to the head.
>>
>>37662022
>>[ ] Rip and tear. This will be satisfying but might take time.
If you rely on your invulnerability, sooner or later you'll run into something that'll bypass it.
Victory is in killing the other bastard before they have the chance.

>>
>>37662022
Just tear their heads off. No way that takes more than 2 seconds.
>>
>>37662088
Well, the point is as long as we have something that increases our reach and that doesn't INSTANTLY fold away when hitting something we are going to hit a lot harder. And I mean a lot, even with comic book physics levers still work (kinda), we might not need it for every fight but once we go up against some stronger things we should really consider it. We could easily get to double the force we apply.
>>
>>37662022
>Give them a hug. And squeeze. And squeeze. And squeeze some more. And squeeze just a little more.

What stronger things? I'm pretty sure she can just tear a tank apart, so her getting any kind of weapon is honestly just a aesthetic choice. She also seems to be having a lot more fun going bare-handed.
>>
>>37662022
>[ ] You know what the coolest thing about being invulnerable is? You can basically let a grenade go off in your palm and you don’t feel shit.

And make sure everyone gets blown apart into nice little chunks, less evidence of what actually happened.

>>37662233
Well, with the path of destruction we're leaving we will soon see what kind of stuff they'll send after us, maybe the Avengers will get wind of us soon.
And maybe we could get our hands on some of the more interesting metals by breaking into Stark industries R&D.
>>
>>37662185
>And maybe we could get our hands on some of the more interesting metals by breaking into Stark industries R&D.
That is the only case in which I can see getting a weapon as a somewhat good choice. Otherwise, any character with as much pure brute strength and defense as Joyce simply does not benefit from non-ranged weapons.
>>
>>37662022
>[ ] You know what the coolest thing about being invulnerable is? You can basically let a grenade go off in your palm and you don’t feel shit.

However what ever wins, after we loot the place we need to set it on fire. Provided no one gets away.
>>
>(1/2)

>[X] You know what the coolest thing about being invulnerable is?

A torrent of bullets bounce off your skin, leaving just the slightest pinpricks of irritated flesh where they strike. In about five minutes or so, those’ll be gone too, and your torn-to-shit clothes will be the only indicator of what happened here. On you, that is. There’ll be plenty of other evidence.

“Wow.” You say, utterly sardonically, heaving out a long sigh. “You guys really suck at this. Maybe stick to chasing down helpless kids, yeah?”

You reach into your jacket, fish out a grenade, and flash them a winning smile.

You pull the pin.

There’s three terrified, frantic seconds of rushing for anything resembling cover, and then –

BOOM!

The blast knocks the door behind you off its hinges, spraying the room with shrapnel. The New York boys were closest, and are nigh unrecognizable, slumped down in a pile of torn flesh. The others managed to protect themselves somewhat, but not nearly enough. You crane your neck over the counter, glancing down at them. One of them’s still groaning, but the other two are silent, their bodies utterly riddled with shrapnel.

Tearing the counter away with minimal effort, you press your heel down on the survivor’s throat. His head hits the opposite wall with enough force to leave a smear of dark, soupy brain matter.

Too easy.
>>
>(2/2)

Checking the rooms at the back, you turn the woman waiting there into a long, bloody stain, and head off to check the holding cells at the very rear of the building.

‘Cells’ is a charitable name for them – you feel yourself snarl as you emerge into a room lined with low, squat cages, each one barely large enough to house an adult human being. Three sets of eyes regard you with a tenuous mixture of fear and optimism.

Kids. One of them, a scrawny black boy no older than twelve, looks like he has a weird scorpion tail. The other two are sporting opaque green eyes and hair that seems to coil and flex of its own accord. They look like brother and sister maybe.

>[X] Give them a ride.

Five or six minutes later and you’re back in your car, a trio of thoroughly terrified mutant kids watching you from the backseats. You’re watching the girl with the green eyes in particular – she threw up a little when she saw your handiwork, which is something you are not allowing in your balling ass car. You’ve made it very clear that she vomits in the bag you gave her or she gets to get out and walk.

You sigh. You used to be good with kids, but now they just try your patience.

“You guys got names?”

They look at each other in silence. Eventually, the boy with the creepy hair and the green eyes speaks up.

“…Jeremiah. My sister’s Amelia.”

“Cool.” You turn your bloodsoaked visage upon the kid with tail. “What about you?”

“…Terrence.”

Okay then. Jeremiah, Amelia, and Terrance.

What the fuck are you going to do with these guys? You’re on a schedule here, and that schedule does not involve driving a bunch of kids halfway across the country to find a bunch of relatives that’d probably just spit in your face and get promptly mashed to gristle. You prefer it when the job is done when everyone else in the room is dead. That doesn’t require time, or patience, or… serenity of mind.

Whatever. Kids aside, you know where you’re going first.

“Right then.” You rest your hands on the wheel. “We’re going on a little road trip, I guess. I got a family reunion to attend.”

The Huron’s just a bunch of miles south from here. That’s where the guy said they’d be headed, and if they’re coming from Fair Haven, you have a pretty good idea of where they’ll make the crossing. You’ve just gotta get there before them, catch the fuckers with their pants down. The kids can wait in the car while you make the MCA look foolish.
>>
>(2/2)

You drive. Conversation is sparse, your focus pretty much elsewhere, but you find out that the twins are from a little place called Alanson. Apparently they turned into some kind of wispy shadow stuff in front of their uncle, and he almost blew their heads off before they realized they should be running. They haven’t figured out how to transform again since. The other boy’s from out of state. Been running for near six months now. He doesn’t say anything about why he’s on his own, just that the Reavers picked him up while he was scavenging for food. He asks you if more of them will come after you, and it dawns upon you that they probably will.

“No worries.” You assure him. “I’m a superhero. The only real superhero in America. I eat guys like them for breakfast.”

He seems to think that Captain America is a real superhero too, and you don’t argue. You think you might get shouty.

The sun hangs low on the horizon when you arrive at the banks of the Huron. Trees line the waters on all sides, breaking up the sunlight into a speckled pattern of orange on black. There’s just one bridge big enough to drive down with any kind of procession within a good few miles, and you’re coming up to it now.

>[X] Wait in the middle of the bridge.

You guide the car to a stop a little ways off the road, under the shadow of the trees.

“Stay here.” You grunt, practically flinging yourself out. “When stuff starts to get loud, cover your ears.”

You wait until you get a nod from all three of them, before making your way onto the bridge. You could wait in the trees, jump down on top of them like something right out of their nightmares, but that’s not really your style. You like it when they see you coming. It used to shit you up – the anticipation, the fear, the knowing that you’re about to kill someone with your bare hands, but now you practically feed on it. It washes over you, putting life in your bones, and strength in your breath. It keeps you motivated. It keeps you warm. It keeps you twitchy, which, you’ve learned, is often a good thing to be.

An hour passes. The sun begins to flow into the mouth of the river, streaks of dwindling red lengthening across the waters. You feel the immensity of what’s about to happen settle into you. You can’t wait. You can’t wait.

Eventually, a long, black truck emblazoned with the MCA insignia emerges from the treeline. It’s being flanked by a pair of plain, unmarked vans. No cop cars, which is interesting.

You ball your fists. It’s time.

It takes a little bit of the wind out of your sails when the hulking eighteen-wheeler doesn’t even try to bull past you. All three vehicles come to a sharp stop some twenty feet away from you.

You feel your skin crawl. You don’t like this, this feels –

There’s a booming, undulating shriek, like a foghorn put through a synthesizer, and something hits you square in the jaw. Your vision explodes into stars, a flash of bright red light washing over you, and you feel yourself hit the concrete. Reflexively, you form your armor, the bone-white miracle ink pushing up through your pores, hardening across your skin.

Wobbling slightly, you pull yourself up. A low growl reverberates through your chest when your vision clears.

Men and women in dark, skin-tight uniforms are filing out of the vans, S.H.I.E.L.D. logos stamped across their shoulders. Up above, hovering over the bridge, a figure hangs in the air. For a second your heart almost shrivels in your chest, because you think it’s Iron Man, but it isn’t, is it? It looks like some kind of gung-ho Iron Man knockoff. It’s all grey and silver, with heavier-set arms and a big, cylindrical cannon mounted upon its shoulder. An angry red glow emanates from the center of its chest.

“Unidentified Mutant Vigilante, you are advised to surrender.” Its voice is heavily distorted, but male. “You will be taken into custody and charged for your crimes against the citizens of this country.”

You almost choke on the heat in your belly. You do not have words for this kind of rage.

>[X] Prioritize killing the IM knockoff.

Everything goes red.

Later, you’ll remember the echoing, leonine roar that tore from your throat, shaking the foundations of the bridge and setting off every car alarm within several miles. You’ll remember leaping up through the air and catching the armored figure’s ankle with your hand, slamming him down into the concrete with all the terrible force you can muster. You’ll remember shouting so loud you cause the vans to slide backwards slightly, windows shattering. For now, though, everything is just red for a moment, and then you’re on top of the Iron Man lookalike, straddling his armored midsection while you drive your fist into his faceplate over and over and over.

The cannon on his shoulder whirs, and a storm of gunfire rattles off your armor. This isn’t like the piddly crap the Reavers hit you with – you actually feel this, even though your shell. It doesn’t feel like a bullet should, but it’s enough to force you off him, sending you staggering back as though from a barrage of well-placed jabs.

Something slams into your shoulder, and then your thigh, and then your midsection, and you realize that the SHIELD agents are opening fire. They’re not shooting bullets, though – apparently, they came better prepared than that. Instead, they’re hitting you with these weird clamp things, like collars on the end of tightropes. They snap around your limbs, biting down hard on your armor, and you feel yourself suddenly pulled in all directions as the lines attached to them snap taut.
>>
>(2/2)

You scream out in exertion, pulling hard against the restraints. There must be some kind of weird force-mitigating thing going on, though, because they hold fast.

A metal fist slams into your face, followed by another, and another. You feel blood on your teeth, and your thoughts wheel, and you imagine sitting next to your bother in that truck, both of you headed towards the camps…

The concrete splits under your feet as you heave, putting all your might into a single Herculean effort. One of the restrains snaps open, its hinges bucking under the pressure. Then another, and another, and another, until there’s just two left. Grasping one of the lines, you bodily lift the SHIELD agent on the other end off her feet. She sails through the air, too shocked to scream, and slams straight into you.

“Let her”–

You promptly smash her body into your armored opponent. She explodes into a spray of gristle and meat, showering the both of you in dark, fresh blood. The man under the mask hesitates for a second, seeming too shocked to even move.

“You sick bi”–

He doesn’t finish his insult, on account of you putting your forehead straight into his face. He reels back, armored feet leaving a set of long, deep indents in the concrete, but you barely feel it.

You barely feel it at all.

>>
>>37664736
We're not talking about the people she chunky-salsaed with a grenade for kicks. MCA has arseholes and it has people who just do the job.

There's a reasonable argument to be made for stopping someone from killing a bunch of people because they can, or because they want something the others have, it's just that various forces have changed this for their own ends (and most-likely many of the politicians who put this into practice were corrupt anyways, and felt threatened by mutants).

Going on a murder spree just because the MCA has dicks doesn't change anything. That one MCA guy who almost caught JJ, but who JJ lied to let him go. The cop who shot him had a decent partner.

JJ wont let it slide.

Don't tell me you haven't thought about it, how every day, he wakes up, looks out his window and knows that the evil he thought was gone has infested his home. He wakes up every morning, and asks himself if anything he's ever done even mattered.

Then he puts on the costume, and tries to make America remember who she used to be.

The situation is never two-dimensional, anon. JJ would confront her on it. Joyce has changed this much over this amount of time. Imagine what she might be like now.

Pulping people doesn't solve a problem, it stops some people from doing it again, while showing what lengths other people will go. And then those deathbots the government makes seem just a tad more necessary then they did before.

>(1/2)

You’re running mostly on anger and animal instinct now, but you’re still smart enough to see an opening. You move quickly, rushing for the SHIELD agents. They scatter the moment they see you coming, but physics is not on their side. You grab two of them, one by the arm and another by the scruff of their neck. The latter attempts to ram a knife into your ear, but the blade shatters upon contact with your armor, and you reward him for his efforts by snapping his elbow into about a bazillion little pieces.

In your mind, you said something like “Enjoy the ride” here. What actually came out was a long, guttural snarl.

Spinning on your heel, you fling both your captives as far as you can. They hurtle through the air, clearing the bridge immediately, their trajectory putting them on a fatal collision course for the opposite bank.

“No!” The tin-man shouts, thrusters igniting on his feet and palms. He soars through the air after them.

You turn back to the SHIELD agents left over.

Just you and them now.

You make quick work of them, snapping up one of their vans and using it to alternatingly flatten or bat them off the side of the bridge. Pretty soon the only agents of SHIELD left in your immediate vicinity are in no position to impede a small stuffed animal, let alone your righteous-ass mission.

You stride towards the truck.

Without warning, something bursts through the side of the vehicle, closing the distance between you and it in a blur of barely-comprehensible motion. It bulls into you, slamming you down into the concrete, and you realize that a set of metallic hands are around your neck, pushing you down. You’re staring straight up into yet another armored figure, except this one has less in the way of decoration, lacking the shoulder-cannon and the exaggerated fists of its friend. Same colour scheme, though.

“COMMAND: INTERCEPT.” It states, in a voice lacking all humanity.

You struggle to wrench it off you, digging your fingertips under the metal plating of its chest.

“COMMAND: INTERCEPT.”

A second pair of robotic hands bear down upon you, dragging your arms away from the first attacker.

You scream in rage.

>[X] Burn everything.

You thrash and tear and scream, struggling against the things.

“COMMAND: RESTRAIN.”
“COMMAND: RESTRAIN.”
“COMMAND: RESTRAIN.”

You’ve barely realized that a third voice has joined the chorus when a pair of metallic fists, fingers knotted together into a ball of pure hurt, come down on your face. You think you feel the metal dent somewhat, but you don’t get out of it without a scratch either, your vision sparking and running like soup. It comes down again, lights exploding in your eyes, and the world becomes a dim procession of shadows. You shriek, you scream, you flail.

You feel your guts churn. You feel yourself burning, inside and out, your heart slamming against your chest, adrenaline tearing through your veins. You want nothing but to get free. The wish bulges through you, almost choking you, a pressure building in your stomach, in your lungs, under your heart, behind your eyes.

You scream, and everything goes orange for a second. The metallic hands recoil as a torrent of searing, fire-bright light explodes from your eyes, the air around you suddenly rippling with heat.
>>
>>37665781
So 1668 °C for the melting point, but we shouldn't need even nearly that, at 890°C it undergoes a phase transition and already becomes very soft.

When the light recedes, the robots – they’ve gotta be robots, they don’t talk or move like people – are circling you in mid-air. Their arms glow with heat, flecks of red-hot, superheated metal drooling across the concrete below.

You’re tired. Your head hurts. Your vision's full of blood and grit and you’re starting to see things in pairs. But you push through it. You get up.

“Stand down!”

A beam of coherent light comes arcing out of your periphery. The world becomes a blur, and you slam into something hard, the impact pushing both you and it several meters across the bridge. In a daze, you realize that your back is to the truck, now folded almost into a semi-circle around you.

“Jay Jay…”

You don’t know you’re saying it until it comes out. You taste blood on your lips.

An armored hand lifts you up, and you feel yourself sailing. You hit the other side of the bank hard, the impact sending dust and gravel high into the air. One after the other, four armored figures hit the ground nearby, looming over you.

You roar.

Your hands are around one of the robots’ arms before you know it, the superheated metal sloughing easily off its joints. You tear the limb free in a shower of sparks and molten titanium, whirling around to bat its companion across the face with it. One of them latches on to your back, weighing you down, bringing you to your knees, and an armored boot slams into your face.

Your vision surges and pops. You snarl and keep coming. You won’t be stopped here. You –

“Die!” You hear your own voice as if from a thousand miles away. It’s like you if you were a god of war. If you were an asura. You surge forward, bringing your hands around the metal man’s neck. “Kill! You!”

You squeeze. He flails, panicking, and you feel a rush of heat gathering around his chestpiece. A beam of light explodes from the red circle at the center of his chest, hurling you off your feet and into the gravel. They dogpile you immediately, the punches coming from all directions, metallic limbs swinging at you again and again and again.

Behind them, through the storm, you see the truck teeter precariously on the edge of the bridge, topple, and fall.

You scream. You push against the hail of blows, struggling to rise to your feet.

“No!”

The truck hits the water. Five armored digits slam across one side of your face.

“No!”

Slowly, it begins to sink. You feel your armor crack as an elbow ricochets off your nose.

“No!”

You scrabble and kick and scream and push with all your might. You try to form words but they won’t come – you can only roar and shriek. You tear a strip of metal off one of your attackers and are rewarded with a palm to the face, the thruster housed in its center firing, filling your vision with blinding, bludgeoning light.

Everything goes black.
>>
>>37666565
I wish that was actually JJ so you people would actually feel bad
>>
>(2/3)

Slowly, you open your eyes.

Everything hurts. Nothing makes sense. The world is a grey, quivering mess, populated solely by paper-thin wafers of shadow, flittering to and fro like ghosts through the ephemera. Slowly, things begin to gain definition, angles and colors coalescing out of the gloom, and you realize that you’re lying on one side, on the edge of the bridge.

“…told me there might be some resistance! You didn’t tell me I’d be fighting some kind of white Hulk!”

You cough weakly. Your lungs feel like they’re on fire. You try to move your arms, and realize they’re bound together at the wrists, a pair of thick, solid metal restraints completely enveloping your hands and much of your forearms.

“This is what happens, Hill!” You glance up at the source of the voice. Your vision isn’t the best, but you can make out the man in the armor standing a few feet away. His helmet’s off and he looks pissed. “This what happens when you send us in blind!”

He argues with someone on the other end of the line for a while. That’s good. It gives you time to gather your strength. Eventually, he taps something on the arch of his ear, and the conversation comes to an abrupt end. His eyes widen when he realizes you’re awake.

“Don’t even think about trying anything.” He backs it up with an armored fist pointed in your direction. You think there’s some kind of missile mounted on top of it. “Those restraints perfectly mitigate your strength. You couldn’t hurt a fly like this.”

You test them. He’s right – you pull and you pull, but the cold metal remains unperturbed. Seeing as you can’t break free, and you don’t think you can stand, you settle for scowling up at him.

He meets your stare, his face stern and unmoved.

“You know, the young man in that truck drowned because of what you did here.” …What? “That’s on you.”

You remember the truck falling. The barrage of kicks and punches. Trying desperately to force your way free. You remember it disappearing under the water.

Your stomach churns. You feel sick. Your thoughts toss and turn, turning slippery and strange, digging into you like knives. Hot, angry tears push their way up under your eyes. You can’t stop them.

You cry.

>>37666871
Put them in with the rest. This is important backstory stuff since it lets us see what the world outside of NYC is like and it adds a sense of immediacy to the underlining tensions of the quest. We're growing complacent with JJ because we sort of know the measure of our enemies. The Joyce stuff really drives home that it's a whole hostile world out there.

>>37666914
Yep and those that don't see it are deluding themselves.

>>
>>37666987
It helps that we've pretty much made it clear that anyone who fucks with us dies and that steering clear is the far better option, as by doing so the issue that is JJ seems to rapidly dissapear, he is relatively low profile with his acts of heroism, mainly ending up as a footnote in battles between titans, and as a series of third page articles of his negative exploits, with about two of his first page exploits. I assume creeper is considered a greater threat as a mutant mob lord, as is spiderman as an open vigilante.

>Though this is comic land, so everything is redeemable
>>
>>37666914
Hmm, I think that's going too far. She's experienced violent trauma, both physical and mental, and she's lashing out at the perceived source of that trauma while also trying to recover her brother. The problem is that she's a goddamn hulk and she's willing to view her opposition as sub-human (as a result of the aforementioned trauma), so she's racking up quite the body count. So I wouldn't go so far as to say "monster" when she's clearly so brokenly human, but probably "irredeemable" fits. That's a pretty broad category of scum and upstanding citizens to fall into.
>>
>>37667066

True.

Joyce is front or second page material, while JJ is a back page square at best.
>>
>>37667076
I still feel more comfortable with Magneto, because at least he doesnt seem like he enjoys killing people.
>>
>>37667192

See >>37667156

But I think Magneto might enjoy it overall rather than each and every murder.
>>
>>37667212
Magneto enjoys it the same way a russian might by killing germans, sure its terrible but the feeling of defending your homeland and all who live there is glorious.
>>
>>37667212
Nah, He doesnt seem to enjoy fighting OR killing, if anything, hes enamored with his cause.
>>
I think Joyce is gonna get a cell mate or get busted out. Brotherhood
>>
So why isn't Joyce using her heat beams to blow dumbass' head off? He's unmasked, looking her in the face, and the restraints do nothing to stop eye masers.
>>
>>37667322

That most likely wasn't eye lasers. Plus she doesn't know she has them.
>>
>>37667322

>>
>>37667322

>>
well, if anything, This interlude makes me sure of one thing: JJ needs more stopping power if he's going to play in the big leagues. Stealth is well and good, and pretty much taken care of now, but thats not really going to help in the long run, because e doesnt have much thats capable of actually harming tough enemies. and he cant afford to prolong combat the way he rolls.
>>
>>37667413
Level claws, shock hands, and start training hardcore with laura and we will be able to hold our own in a 1v1 with some of the big leagues. JJ doesn't really have the potential to turn into a army destroier like joyce
unless we start eating delicious mutant fuel
>>
>>37667413

I'm honestly a little disappointed we didn't eat the delicious mutant fuel. Though it makes sense to try and resist it, we probably need something to settle our mutation down since it seems out of control right now.

>(1/2)

They don’t skimp on the restraints.

You’re not sure where they’re taking you, but you spend the trip hosed up to your eyeballs on morphine, or some less squicky equivalent. Your cuffs are designed to fit into a larger frame, a pair of solid steel bars attaching to their sides, the other ends fitted on to a rectangular casing that you’ve been unceremoniously fitted into. The result is that your arms are held straight down, hands kept hovering parallel to your crotch. Your feet are similarly encased, and, wary of your rather deafening ability to project your voice, they’ve fitted you with a tight, solid titanium muzzle, a strip of fabric on the inside muffling your voice while allowing for easy breathing. A pair of red, apparently heat-ablative goggles have been strapped across your face.

You breathe heavily. You can’t really feel your tongue, so it hangs out over the edge of your mouth. Your vision constantly heaves back and forth, and the way the truck (different truck, of course) shakes doesn’t help with that. Getting out is going to be nigh impossible.

Not that you care. You’ve got no reason to even try to break out anymore. You’ve got no reason to do anything anymore.

You still hate them, of course. If your hands were free, you’ve no doubt that you’d be strangling the driver already. You’d find that guy in the armor, too, and you’d make him pay. But you’d feel nothing, because there’d be nothing left for you after that. Everything is gone. Your world has come to its final close. Maybe you’d eke some small echo of joy out of killing more Reavers and mutant-killers and MCA fuckheads, but it wouldn’t be the same. You can never again know that JJ is still out there. You can never again tell yourself that, one day, you’ll find him.

The fire is gone.
>>
>>37667413
Shadow Field would give more defense, our ranged power gives a bit more offense. Beyond that, we actually have to figure out JJ has taskmaster powers.
>>
>>37667546
strength is maxed out
the only healing related power left is vitae
claws are kind of pointless because if we fight something that can't get pulped with 5-7 ton strength, we shouldn't be near it in the first place

and subdermal only goes so far.
>>
>>37667559
Healing is the only one of those that's capped. And we can still get Healing Vitae to provide some help to our comrades when they get injured.
>>
>>37667584
Well shit. Looks like we should have prioritized things differently, because now she might not even recognize JJ because she thinks he's dead.

Probably should have focused on opening the truck faster, even if it was a trap and the Mandroids would overwhelm us, because it's not like we could actually beat War Machine.

The truck skids to a halt, your restraints shaking. You guess you’ve arrived. You don’t think it’s the camps – you think they have a special prison for people like you. Maybe they’ll dump you in the Raft. Do they drop mutants in there, or was it just regular super-criminals?

Someone shouts. It’s only brief – the voice vanishes almost immediately, and then everything is silent once again.

Maybe they’ll just disappear you.

A deep, sonorous sound, not quite like anything you’ve ever heard before, reverberates through the truck. It’s like someone setting a grindstone up under a horn, filling the air with the sound of jagged edges being cut down to size. You feel the hairs upon the back of your neck stand to attention, a faint buzz, almost like that of garbled radio chatter, passing back and forth through the dark.

Your restraints rattle. The sound peaks, and the back of the truck lurches. Before your eyes, the heavy iron doors begin to peel themselves free.

You cringe at the sudden influx of light. Your muzzle tears itself away from you, your cuffs bending and distorting, twisting themselves free. The chemical drip adhered to the base of your neck tears itself loose, sending a spray of clear, foul-smelling fluid across the floor. Still reeling from the effects of the drugs, you topple to your knees, the world swaying around you.

Silhouetted against the light, a figure stands in mid-air.

“On your feet, Joyce Rachel Green.” The voice is imperious and gentle all at once, like aged oak. “For our bothers and sisters are not yet free.”

You feel it, just for a moment.

You feel the fire.

Claws at adamantium equivalent level, or higher can be useful, for armored foes, or, if we actually use our ninja abilities, straight up assassinating fools. Claws also open up useful extrapolatives, which synergize with Taser, wo I'd actually say try to get both of those to like, 3-4. Eye Beams can get good too, as well as maxing photo.
I just want to know what we got to do to Get Lightsaber claws.

I find it interesting to consider how easily JJ could have ended up like this. He's admitted to somewhat enjoying hurting people during his mugging days. Imagine if that sniper had gotten Creeper, the person who saved him, took him in. He would have lost the person he cared about the most again. That could drive a man pretty far.
>>
>>37667773
I'm trying to figure out what specifically could have been done differently. Like the sooner we go for the truck, the sooner the mandroids attack us, and the sooner Joyce goes down. But would that have been better than lasting as long as she did, assuming Magneto would have saved her regardless?

Enhanced Kinesics, Neuroelectrovision and a bit of Animal Affinity gets us the next best thing to telepathy, including the ability to influence thoughts. He barely survived his last encounter with us, in fact a good deal of his men DIDN'T survive said encounter, and he was PISSED about that, especially seeing as he saved maybe one and a half of them (MAYBE) at the expense of losing over a dozen others.

SHIELD is definitely hurting about now.

>>
>>37667926
Why a bow though, just get some marbles and flick them at subsonic speed.Though using a Bow would enable JJ to claim the name ''Bard''
>>
Fun bit of trivia. If we rapidly cycle out spider man cling power, we can probably tell Magneto's force fields to go fuck themselves
>>
>>37667972
You know, I didn't even think about that. Alchemy as a Tier 3 power would be bitchin'.
>>
>>37667974

Because a bow would do a shit-load more damage than a marble. Though JJ could possibly stand to work out his throwing arm a bit and try beaning targets with rocks from afar. He hasn't really practiced long-ranged combat at all yet.
>>
>>37667974
Because a bow stores kinetic energy thus practically amplifying how much force you put in a projectile whereas marbles, or any other object you simply throw, does not.
>>
>>37667974
We should be more frugal than this. Lets just make ourselves some makeshift armor out of some cloth scraps and a garbage can, we could be the worlds lamest superhero. Even lamer than skeleton man, who is half man half skeleton, or even florida man!

JJ's strength is his versatility. The more skills in his repertoire, the more difficult he will be to predict in a fight. It's not like practicing archery or even just getting a sling and using rocks or nearby debris to crack some skulls is going to use up valuable X-Points that could go towards upgrading eye beams.
>>
>>37668094
I said it earlier I will say it again, let's break into Starks R&D department.
>>
>>37667890
He might say something about it tomorrow. That could be the "some point" at which he says something about it.

Look, you're probably right, but the point I'm /trying/ to make is that there's kind of a fog of war to this situation. We don't know if there was actually a kid in the truck at all Hill set a trap using a public announcement as bait, she didn't need an actual body to dangle in front of Joyce. We also don't know whether Warmachine would have lied about the drowning to fuck with Joyce since he was pretty angry at the time. Finally, we have huge chunks of JJ's life that aren't well accounted for, Creeps mess with his head a bit, and more of the important character development stuff gets its own thread or a dramatic reveal. What I'm saying is that someone's lying or omitting the truth, and we'd be fools to completely trust any of these narratives without corroboration. Makes sense?
