/tg/ - Traditional Games

Current season: Late Autumn
Temperature: 18 degrees C
Population: 70 Ogres
>Food: a big pile of rotting sheep carcasses, some goats milk and cheese, and giant spider legs for use as meat straws.
>Livestock: a big family of trolls, you also have some goats, and some sheep, in large supply.
>Leader: Togg War-Dancer
>Structures: You have large pens for your domesticated animals inbetween the hills, and you have a cave next to them, in the base of your original hill. Within it, is plenty of stune furniture etc) You also have primitive stone buildings dotted across the hillside.
>Unlocked Tech/culture/etc: reading, writing, stone tools, ranching, dance, music, religion of Togg (god of mirth, dancing etc) and his elven wife (goddess of fertility and nature), you can speak, read, and write elvish. You have also invented the war dance, and masonry.
>Knowledge of the world: You have learned that only the thinking races of the world are known to interbreed, and only then within their own animal groups (mammals with mammals, reptiles with reptiles, etc). You have also learned almost everything there is to know about elves and their history. You know that troll tusks grow back if pulled out.
>Diplomatic relations: You are now allied with Fairtheoirínacnoic, (The ogres prefer to call it just 'fairth') an elven outpost belonging to the Aramallessi, or Wood Elves.
>Morale: Medium-high, your old leader died, but you also had your first battle and emerged victorious
>Weapons and tools: You have tools and weapons made of stone, but your tribe prefers its clubs with troll tusks imbedded in them.
>Resources: there are great masses of sheep and goats in the hills, and you have a great stockpile of wood and meat.

Each turn is usually a month, or the actions that happen within in a month.
>You have one action (1d20) and one idea (1d100) and one study (1d12) per turn.
>currently writing up the last idea roll from the last thread.
>>
>>37705917
Strange orange deposits were found during the expansion of the cave, and Hemm, now old and frail, had to get some of the younger Ogres to help pull it out from the stone. She quickly observed that it was hard, and would make good tools and weapons, if it could be shaped.

It was days and days before they realised that it obeyed the craftsmans hammers so much more readily when it was heated. And soon, crude and primitive spearheads were made, as well as bronze tools, to better shape the stone that was used to build homes.

action: start writing everything new we do down (i think that should be a prerequisite for beginning real studies, we have to start looking into science some day now that we left the stone age)
this should be done in an organized way with special people responsible and special places where we store our knowledge (written on wood planks at the moment i think)
in other words: build very primitive library
>>
>>37706227
You could turn this into an idea roll to develop ways of keeping our history, instead of just building a library and we wouldn't know what to do with it, so roll it again, and I'll support.
>>
>>37706279
>>37706227
Its probably best to do an idea roll for developing ways to keep history. You already know how to read and write, after all.

The Sloths are missing

>Unlocked Tech/culture/etc: reading, writing, stone tools, ranching, dance, music, religion of Togg (god of mirth, dancing etc) and his elven wife (goddess of fertility and nature), you can speak, read, and write elvish. You have also invented the war dance, and masonry.
Our Wargod (Mabyrhaul mac Anréalta)(Son of Togg and his wife) (picture) is missing.

We also know how to make Leather Armour out of the Sloths skins if I recall correct.
>Weapons and tools: You have tools and weapons made of stone, but your tribe prefers its clubs with troll tusks imbedded in them.
We have a half Troll with a huge Axe build out of a tree.

Also, we should develop a cuisine because:
>Through an in depth study of elven cuisine, you are able to recognise herbs and spices for seasoning, and know how and where to collect and apply them in cooking.

>>I'm changing the way study works. If you succeed at a study, for something like this, it means that in the next turn, if you decide to spend an action on something related to something you have studied, it's an auto-success (though it is up to my discretion on a case by case basis). For example, next turn, if you roll an idea roll to improve your cuisine, it's automatically successful, and your people would then be known for their excellent foods etc.
>>
>>37706727
Sooo a focus mechanic. Study dat orange rock, learn its copper, get bright idea to turn it into usable shit like tools weapons and armor for example?
>>
>>37706727
Crap, knew I forgot stuff.

Yeah, you have a small family of sloths, you can make leather armour out of sloth skin but you'll need to spend an action to fully outfit the tribe (as of now, Togg is the only one with the armour). After this action, your tribe will always be counted as wearing leather armour.

And yeah, if you wanna roll an idea roll to implement cuisine, it auto-succeeds (you only roll in case of crit successin which case, I'll do something special).

I forgot about Grunn the half troll for a moment there, but he IS a special case. I might start doing a pastepin for all this info, it's getting difficult to keep it all to one post.

>>37706934
The roll that got this originally intended for it to be bronze, but I guess that comes later when they start working on alloys.

I'm pastebinning everyone of your posts in the old 2 threads right now...

After tinkering with the newfound metal, more advanced tools are made using it, and with them, stonework becomes that much easier. In fact, primitive picaxes are made, and the ogres find themselves digging further and further underground with them, and the worries of housing the entire tribe, seem to be dissipating with them. As your knowledge of the metal advances, you notice that more elves have started dwelling within your tribe.

>>37706466
After studying the metal for a while, they notice that although it is red-orange in colour, when it is exposed to air it darkens to a brown color and if exposed to air and water, it becomes a blue-green colour. What this means is unknown to the ogres, but it is interesting nonetheless. It is also rather soft and malleable, making it a good building material.

>>37707094
>Ah! Thanks a lot!
>>
>>37707309
That would be copper alright. Now if we just had some tin bronze would be ours. Pretty sure the only thing better for as combat metals would be iron and steel.

I'll be happy with copper though. Even basic metals are a boon right now.
>>
Rolled 11 (1d20)

>>37707309
Now that we have better use of the Metals, armor and axes.
>>
>>37707377
I'll back it and if I understand your rules right this ties into the metal study for a success automatically?

Wish we had a heavier denser metal. We could make stupidly heavy mauls or clubs. They'd be pretty slow but have fun trying to survive a hit from a 15foot ogre.
>>
>>37707377
We're still waiting on the idea front, what's everybody wanting to do? You can roll for something, or you can auto-succeed at cuisine? Though you would still roll, just for my benefit really.

The ogres, with their new understanding of flavour, spend hours of effort into constructing new and interesting foods. The spider-legs that so well fed the tribe generations ago, have almost gone, and word of mouth has built up a big reputation for their deliciousness. Ogre chefs have often expressed their desire to obtain more of such foods. Still, even with goat, sheep, and sloths to work with, they are capable of constructing foods that make any ogre drool upon seeing them. The secret ingedient? Vegetation. One of the main things the ogres learned from the elves was that you can't just eat meat, and in fact, the new foodstuffs are well loved by the ogres. Currently, they have it in low supply, as ogres have no agriculture of their own. Still, Ogre cuisine, though not terribly impressive to the elves, has been lauded by them as a great success, and that many other races would find their foods delicious.

>>37708156
>writing
>>
So what ARE the elves up to? They seem to be gathering in our camp for some reason. Either in fear of lizards or wanting to study us. It must be rare that ogres are smart enough to become cultured and peaceful or something. Well smartish. we're still dumb as a sack of hammers but we're SHINEY HAMMERS DAMMIT
>>
>>37708317
Ask Gal, He wanted him to scout, I'm just the wardbitch.
>>
>>37708317

>>
>>37708321
We will become the shiniest of dancing hammers one day my friend.
Also, we have impressed them in the past, and we didn't even have to fight their most dangerous enemy when we showed up.
So we are the big dumb guy following around the smart little guy, but they're actually following us around.
Ya see?
>>
>>37708405
Also I still have the long term goal of breeding with the elves and forming a united cultural and religious Empire...
>>
>>37708500
Good lord man the mental images of how that would work... gah.

Those poor elf men and their hips!
>>
>>37708500
Well, the half trolls are smaller, so why not half elven half trolls?

>Never forget the big rock
>>
>>37708551
First we should try to make more half trolls and put them into moderate armour, they make good troops
>>
>>37708601
Maybe we should breed the half trolls with elves, maybe the ogres are causing the intelligence deficiency and the trolls provide the smart gene. Try both to be safe
>>
>>37708633
I don't think so, Trolls only care about Sticks. Our Half Troll is basically constantly caring around the biggest Stick he could find.
>>
We should probably also look into ways to preserve food for worse times and start some agriculture
>>
>>37708688
So the Elf would negate the slow and dumb, so would we just have a slightly stronger human at the end?
>Unless we added the rock
>>
>>37708688
Well, if you like trolls with sticks, you should come over to troll civ. I don't know if you've been there in the last thread without your name though, so apologies if you have.
>>
>>37708703
So, basically, Study Elven Argiculture on the next turn?
>>
>>37708688
Judging by our size we dont need anything but blunt weapons. For special cases we can even give him a big stick with some pointy edges (mace), this could actually quite devastating together with some armour and his regeneration.
>>
>>37708735
Yeah, then maybe preservation.

I can't wait for our half troll to come back with an even bigger sticks.
>>
>>37708720
I switch my name around for these Threads.

>>37708800
Our Half-Troll carries around an Stone Axe, the size of a Tree.

I don't think we need stuff like Swords, Maces, Clubs, Cannons and stuff like that is good, But Sharp Weapons aren't really our thing.

>We actually won the last battle, simply by dancing at the enemy...
>>
>>37708735
This
>>
>>37708242
Hiega likes telling stories. The story of her granddpa's final words have gone out of control, and most of the tribe now believes that at the end of his life, he grinned, and promised that the tribe will make the tastiest pork ever known, and that he will still be there to guide them, before ascending in a blaze of light.

He is Olgruff Pork-Belly, father of Togg, and the patron deity of the Ogres, the god who personally led them to glory in their earliest days, the father of all Ogres, the god of a good meal, and protector of all food.

>>37708360
Grunn, though not the stealthiest of people, had the benefit of being short, and also for possibly being mistaken for a rather large troll. He stalks near the mountains, watching for signs of Jhirahk activity. He spied nothing at first, but when he neared the old cattle pen, from which Hiega had stolen from many years ago, he notices a small cave in the mountainside. Climbing a particularly sturdy tree nearby, he waits, and listens, eventually seeing some Jhirahk warriors emerge. They speak in a strange language.

"... Elwe het daarin geslaag om te wen oor die wendigo , maar die criz'a het daarin geslaag om hulself geheel te hou." One speaks, whilst the other one nods somberly.
"Ek is bly ten minste een kultuur sy eie bly , was daar hoop vir die mensvreters in die weste , maar die Aramallessi verskyn het hul kultuur reeds geïnfiltreer . Hopelik kan hulle bevry word sodra die Kor Sallasse arriveer ."

He watched as they turned a corner, and disappeared. Following them, he came to an intriguing site. There was a large dragon's skull displayed over a much larger cave entrance, and there were many smaller caves littered all over the mountainside. From here, he also had a view down a valley... and there were caves everywhere. Every mountain had a cave in it, somewhere. No wonder the elves had never managed to exterminate the Jhirahk.

>New turn, wat do?
>>
>>37708898
Yeah, sharp weapons will tend to become blunt way too fast when swung by an ogre
>>
Rolled 2 (1d20)

>>37708915
Well, now that we know these mofos have a crap ton of them, we're gonna need a bigger boat.

Axes and Armor, if I may.
>>
Rolled 13 (1d20)

>>37708915
>"... Elwe het daarin geslaag om te wen oor die wendigo , maar die criz'a het daarin geslaag om hulself geheel te hou." One speaks, whilst the other one nods somberly.

We're fucked, they're dutch or dansk!

Action: Grunn should scout the Sea.
>>
>>37708915

>>
>>37709052
Oh... Well... Sure thing.
>>
>>37709002
Dont know the language but i think they are talking about cannibals (probably us) and about some infiltration?
>>
>>37709002
I know a wendigo is a spooky creature, and they used the names of the Elves, I think? Maybe they call us the Kor Sallasse?
>>
>>37709052
Well.... okay, have fun with that I guess? Will be difficult considering you can't breed outside of your animal group, and trolls are marsupials, and elves are not.
>>
>>37709388
*Ogres, not trolls

though trolls ARE marsupials as well
>>
Rolled 3 (1d12)

>>37708915
Well, in theory, we could try to talk to them with interpretorical dancing...

As we still need to study something:

Study: Elven Agriculture

>>37709120
Well, I feel like following a long term plan, as stupid as it may be, is a good way of not ending up in a chaotic mess.

>>37709279
They're talking about something like we are infiltraded by the elves and that they want to free us when the Kor Sallasse arrive...

>>37709371
mensvreter = Menschenfresser = Man Eaters = probably us

>>37709388

>>

>>37709418

>>37709465
I purposely didn't try to translate it, that would ruin the immersion.
>>
>>37709465
"Free us?" Thats a odd way of putting it...

Hmm looks like interesting choices ahead for the tribe. We have two powers wanting our support and fully understanding how powerful a pack of intelligent ogres can be.

The elves have long grown their own foods; fruits, grains, vegetables. And by closely working with the elves, the tribesmen have managed to replicate their work, partially. Only certains foods will, do however, to satisfy a 15ft tall ogre, and much of the space between the hills has now been taken up with farmland, where you grow great, hard vegetables, full of delicious nutrients. You turn fruits into juice, as they are barely a snack to your huge people. Soon, your tribe has a great addition to its cuisine.

>Agriculture acquired, giving your people much greater health with addition of green foods to their diet. Your population increases by 50%, making your tribe now 105 ogres strong.
