/tg/ - Traditional Games

Several days have passed since the victory at the battle of Geonosis for the GAR (Grand Army of the Republic). Your actions and those of Sierra Squad under your command, has earned you and your three brothers a good reputation in the GAR, and praise from the Republic. However, the war has only just started, so without further ado, Sierra Squad has been reassigned as a Commando-class squad to the 44th Division, a military force that is lead by Major Nick Rostu and it has a good mixture of both clone troopers and alien troopers in their midst. The 44th Division was placed onboard a Acclamator-class Assault Ship under the direct command of Jedi General Zen Malcov. The mission? Force the CIS forces off of the planet of Atraken to obtain the mining resources there as well as securing the planets citizens. As part of the 44th Division, Sierra Squad is under the command of Major Nick Rostu, Jedi Commander Yna Ti, and Jedi General Zen Malcov. You have yet to be briefed on your mission, but it's safe to say that you will not have the same mission objectives as the rest of the division.

You find yourself in the bed assigned to you in the military quarters down below. Maybe not a room fit for a Commando, but you were a Soldier of the Republic first and foremost. You share the room with the rest of your Squad and three other clone troopers. However, as of right now, you're all alone in the room. Mute is off at the observation deck while Joker is probably at the bridge. You would most likely find Ones down at the cannons, praising them or criticising the poor maintaince.

>Go see Joker
>Go see Mute
>Go see Ones
>Stay in your room. (Do what?)
>Go explore the ship. (What areas?)

With a heavy sigh, you pull yourself off of the bed, sitting at the edge of it. Ones wouldn't be much for talking right now, and the same goes for Mute. However, Joker will probably be busy learning about the ship further up at the bridge controls. In the end you decide that checking up on Mute will be a good idea, considering the wound he had to endure at the hive spire. As you move out from the quarters, you pass by several rooms filled with clone troopers or alien soldiers of the GAR. Most of them nods at you respectfully while others wave at you like you're their brother, even some of the aliens. It's a nice feeling to be recognizeable even as one clone amongst many other clones.

The trip to the Observation deck proves otherwise to be a short one without any pitstops or conversations with other troopers. The doors flies open and you step in, followed by th doors closing yet again behind you. Mute is standing close to one of the large windows of the observation deck, gazing into the hyperspace. He, just like you, aren't wearing his armour. You can't quite figure out what's on his mind half the time you look at him, but he seems to be in deep thought whenever you're not in a sharp situation. You approach him.

"What are you thinking about, Mute?", the question escapes your mouth before you can stop yourself. You're curious, but maybe the question itself was pushing it too far? You're brothers, there's no doubt about that, but that doesn't mean you share everything with each other. Mute looks over at you, his destroyed left eye covered by a white piece of medical cloth for now while the bacta does its work. He initially refused treatment of his somewhat infected wound until you convinced him of otherwise when you were reassigned to the 44th division. In defeat, he accept the treatment. However, he hasn't yet made the decision whether or not to replace his eye with a cybernetic one or remain blind on his left side.

"Of home, Sir. Of Geonosis. Of the separatist woman. A lot of things, Sir.", he replies to your question and turns his gaze back to the large window.

Well there is a war going on, those tend to speed things up in that regard in my experience. As long as Whiskey has a good head on his shoulders and doesn't drastically change the focus of things if something does develop between them which I'm hoping for then theres nothing wrong with it. Unfortunately many quests seem to over focus on such things when they happen, to the detriment of the quest, but as long as you maintain the balance, all is well.

"Of Geonosis? What of it?", you press the matter. Sure, some troopers are still shocked from the real experience despite years of training in simulations, but Mute is a Commando and one of the more stone cold ones at that. You'd be surprised if anything fazed him on that planets, but who knows but Mute?

"I see it. Every night.", Mute responds dryly, turning entirely towards you this time. His features are grim and his stare is cold.

"What do you see?"

"The knife in mid-air. My sight disappearing. My blade. In the geonosian's skull. Over and over again.", his voice is unfazed despite the fact that his words are that of a soldier with PTSD, "It dies every night." - You're unsure as to what you should say next; Trying to comfort Mute would end with fruitless results, and trying to justify anything is also out of the question. And so, you decide to ignore his answer for now and have him go through a psychological test before approving him for the upcoming mission. You want Mute to be at 100% for it, because if he died you wouldn't only have failed yourself, but you would have also broken the promise you made to Joker back on Geonosis.

"And the separatist woman? Why do you think of her?", you continue, changing the subject away from the much darker one.

"Advanced technology. Three of them. Possible counter-jedi soldiers. Possible jedi hunters.", Mute theorizes, but continues before you can make a comment, "Wrong assumption; General Malcov and Commander Ti. Both spared. Counter-intelligence agents with military training? Data stolen, lives spared." - He seems to have put a lot of thought into figuring out the women's role with the Separatists. You'd like to praise his good work, but the mood in the room doesn't incline to agree with you.

Well no, titanium can be used in the construction of other things. Isn't cortosis hard to incorporate into other materials? If it wasn't, wouldn't cortosis weaponry and armor be much more common?

"Counter-intelligence agents? That could be it since they went after the data both when facing us and the General and the Commander.", nod in agreement, to which Mute nods back and then returns to looking out the window.

"Watching space. Hyperspace. It is calming, Sir. Easy to think.", he answers your silent question, "Need a moment. Alone, Sir.", he continues and goes back to being engrossed by the sight of hyperspace while falling deep into his own thoughts. You decide that it's time to leave him to his thinking. You'll have to give your formal request for a psychological test for Mute before your arrival to Atraken. He is a good soldier, but sometimes it feels like he becomes unhinged and isn't present at all. A disturbing thought, but so far he has proven to be quite the asset to the squad, both as a marksman specialist and a great tactician.

After an internal discussion with yourself while walking through the ship's corridors, you finally decide to go to the bridge to pay Joker and the General a visit. The journey there turns out to be as void of anything worth of interest as the one you made to the observation deck. The occassional clone salutes you on the way, but once you reach an elevator, the trip up to the bridge becomes a short one. Stepping out from the moving room of durasteel, you find yourself in the large bridge of the ship. There is a walkway from the elevator to the observation windows at the end of the bridge. Along the sides of the walkway there are consoles, terminals, and electronic units where ensigns, starship pilots and other personnel sit and walk about. At the observation windows you spot the General talking with his padawan while Joker is down at a terminal with one of the ensigns. They both seem quite absorbed with what they are doing. Joker isn't wearing his armor and both Jedi are wearing their traditional Jedi robes and tunics underneath.

>Go talk with the General (About what?).
>Go talk with Joker (About what?).
>Go talk with Yna (About what?).
>Leave the bridge.

The general and the commander hasn't noticed you yet, so you take the nearby stairs down, right before the actual walkway. When you approach Joker, it strikes you that he's occassionally throwing looks up at the commander without her noticing. However, instead of pointing it out in front of the nearby ensign, you make a mental note to have a chat with Joker later; You're not opposed to the idea of romantic feelings or relationships, but Jedi are often off-limits due to their restrictions, view on emotions, and you will not have Joker dishonorably discharged for being the cause of something Commander Ti might do or say. So, instead you place a hand on his nearby shoulder, greeting him.

"Good work on Geonosis, Commando.", you congratulate Joker and he flashes a wide smile. "All in a day's work. Or well, two.", he laughs at his own poor joke, as always.
"I have been wondering though," you start off and Joker looks at you with curious eyes, "what did you make the SBD do exactly?"

"I gave it orders to cause panic for the infantry outside the core ship and then I designated it to upload something to the core ships main systems via the holonet.", Joker grins with a devious smile in his eyes, "but in case Geonosis isn't within the range of the galactic holonets network, I also instructed it to upload old useless information I remember from our education back on Kamino, Sir."

Whether or not the SBD successfully uploaded something from the holonet or not, will forever remain unknown to you, but even so, Joker did an astoundingly good job.

CONT.

"In any case, you have my gratitude, Joker." - and with that you leave Joker with a smile before you take the nearby stairs up to the end of the walkway where the general and the commander are standing. Zen Malcov is a little bit grey in his features after the cortosis poisoning, but thanks to a quick treatment of bacta when Sierra squad rescued him, he'll survive and recover his strength. That's why he's playing the role of an acting admiral instead of a general in the fields right now. Yna Ti looks a bit better than how she looked last time you saw her; She was crying then while holding onto Joker down on Geonosis.

"General. Commander.", you adress them both with a salute before the general cuts in with a short "At ease, soldier."

"When will the briefing be held, General?", you ask out of curiousity; You'd like to plan ahead, talk things over with your squad and revel in any Intel you can acquire before the actual mission starts, "You will be briefed when I deem it necessary.", the general sizes you up and down with his gaze, "Tomorrow, when we arrive, you'll be briefed on your way down planetside."

"Also, if I'm not overstepping, but in case you face those separatist agents again, I would advise the general and the commander to carry a back-up weapon such as a vibroblade. For safety measures.", and the general falls into silence. He's either thinking or trying to figure out a way to tell you that you're right without praising or thanking you for the suggestion, "Very well.", he finally replies. Yna nods at you and silently mouths a "Thank you".

"When I fought one of the separatist agents on Geonosis, I noticed that she or it used a similar form of stance as mandalorians, but a twist to it; They fought with speed and strength combined, holding nothing back, and adapting to their enemies every move.", you spark a conversation regarding the subject of the separatist agent you fought the ones who ambushed the general and Yna. You hold back from trying to explain how Mandalorians fight lest you'd want to risk insulting the general any further.

"They seem to favor the usage of close combat with blades of either cortosis or some other material.", Yna adds to this while her master remains quiet and listens, "Their blades caused your lightsaber to shut down, master. Fighting them on equal terms, foul or fair, would leave us with the upperhand."

"I'll give it some thought, Padawan.", Zen ultimately finishes the conversation with a stern tone, nods at you, and turns about to look out the observation window. You motion for Yna to come with you further aside. She complies, curious as to what you'd like to discuss.

"May I request a sparring match with you, Commander Ti? I'd like to learn more about the different techniques that the Jedi use to improve my own skills.", and Yna immediately perks up and the suggestion, though her eyes wander to where Joker is.

"Should we ask Joker to come along as well?", she asks, a bit uncertain.

You stop dead in your tracks after hearing her question. Joker could use some training, but you were still unsure if exposing the two of them to each other would yield any good results or outcomes. This situation is one of the reasons you hate not having your helmet equipped; Sure, your HUD can't calculate what Joker will say and what will happen next, but it's always nice to try to run the "tactical simulation" on it.

"Your call, but why don't you ask him yourself, Commander?", you consider that you might be dodging a bullet by not asking Joker yourself. It might seem a bit forced if you're the one doing it. Yna takes a moment to think before she walks over to where Joker is working on a terminal down one level from the walkway. While she asks him if he wants to tag along, you make your way towards the elevator. Once you reach it, the sound of two different individuals walking up to you from behind reach you. Turning about you can see both Yna and Joker joining you in the elevator.

For the duration of the trip over to the training rooms built into the ships to keep the clone troopers in form, you walk ahead of the pair while they talk about Geonosis and Yna's life in the Jedi order and Joker's time growing up on Kamino. They shared a few laughs, and Yna seems to really like Joker's jokes, even the bad ones that Ones would get furious over. Although the distance between the bridge and the training area is technically long, the trip is over faster than you anticipated.

"Who's facing who first?", Yna asks while picking up four wooden training swords, one for herself, one for Joker and two for you.

Changed ti to d20 since the introduction on Geonosis is over. However, if the majority of players would instead want us to return to d10 and only have d20 on hard encounters, I'd be fine with that.

Theres something very fucking weird about the code for rolling them on 4chan at least. I've never had a physical D20 fuck me over like this unless it was tampered with.

Out of all the dice I've witnessed rolled in tg d20s have got to be the worst.
>>

>Changed ti to d20 since the introduction on Geonosis is over
That is fucking stupid OP, you don't go and swap out dice systems just for successfully completing a mission, if what you have works, you fucking stick with it.

Changing the dice like this is stupid, especially when its just for changes sake, the impact of such a change is pretty drastic, and for mostly the wrong reasons
>>

>Changed ti to d20 since the introduction on Geonosis is over.
Uhh why?

Quests pick a dice system that works for them, and they stick with it, because it works for them, they don't change them each week for something new for no good reason.

>and only have d20 on hard encounters
Do you not understand how /tg/ D20's work and their differences in probabilities? Using an entirely different dice system just for raising the DC is not logical at all...
>>
>>37728921
Dice are random. I disagree.
>>
>>37728944
/tg/ dice are not, and please for the love of god don't start that argument here.

>>37728971
the seed generator for the dice is not random, it is instanced based on post timestamps, which means with board traffic, post rates and post timing, the seed generator is not random, but a little (and I do mean a little) predictable

hell rolling dice with a trip on changes how the dice work
>>
>>37728963
>>37728971
What makes it so warped? I could make a RNG easily in C++. Course it would be tied to a time seed but as long as a post isnt made the same second it would be fine.

>>
>>37729054
Yes, /tg/ dice are not random, they are randomized to an extent, as much as the code can make them, but it is still code, still based on time, still somewhat predictable.

Hell a year or more ago anons did statistical analysis of a QM's dice rolling, and they figured out that when he rolled dice with a trip on, and with large posts, it altered his average rolls to be noticeably below average when using specific dice, IIRC D100's, and a consistent bias towards the extreme ends of D20's.
>>
>>37729133

I for one like 1d20s for difficult rolls

oh well
>>
>>37729151
Well shit. thats insane I'd rather break out my own personal set and roll on my desk almost if this is how it goes.

I knew they were finicky and weird but this is nuts. I knew dice gods were fickle but to decide the fates of all based on such things. I dunno if I can even call it dice now.
>>
>>37729200
>I for one like 1d20s for difficult rolls
But it doesn't make sense to use entirely different dice for a harder DC, just up the DC on the existing dice if they work well and are not causing issues.
>>
>>37729259
agree with this rolling a 9 or an 8 is already hard enough on a d10.
>>
>>37729250
They are not quite as predictable and biased as anons think, and they are still relatively random as much as one deigns to delve into the conceptualization of randomness, but when you get lots of posts rolling together in a very short amount of time, they cluster together, depending on the timestamp of the first seed that can be good or bad, depends on whether the seed cycle resets mid post chain or not.

>>37729294
pretty much.
>>
>>37729259
>Harden the DC
>DC is 9
>Khorne is not pleased.

But yes, seems better than changing to D20... although I can live with d20 for harder rolls, it allows for a different kind of DC, more probabilities of success/failure
>>
>>37729311
if you look back at our rolling of d10s in the past we realy where not even that Lucky in a way most of the time we had 2 pretty shit rolls and then 1 roll saving it apart for that one ocassion we rolled 2 9s and 2 8s
>>
>>37729133
If you wish to have a larger span, you can alwyas roll 2d10; the repartition is a bit in our favor, but it decreases the chances of criticals and fumbles.
Dunno if rolling more than one die at once changes the probabilities on tg, though.
>>
>>37729250
eh, it tends to not be that big an issue unless you roll 20 dice within a minute in individual posts

or use d20's, /tg/ d20's are swingy as hell, someone did some math years ago and found that when rolling 3 d20's in a short amount of time (1 minute or so) there is like a 25-28% chance to get a crit, which causes big problems with crit overriding rules heavy systems
>>
>>37728364
"Me versus you, Commander Ti.", you proclaim and position yourself in the middle of the training room. Yna smiles at you, brimming with confidence. She places herself in front of you by a few meters and you both get into your separate stances. She's holding her sword above her head, ready to defend or strike, but passively waiting for you to attack. You lower yourself, the right sword at the front with the left sword holding back for support or a swipe. You analyze her the bst you can, but without having fought her before or seen her in a duel to this day, it's hard to determine what move she will use once you attack her. And thus, you take a leap of faith and launch yourself forward, thrusting with your right sword. She brings down her sword, parrying your blade but in comes your left sword with a horizontal slash, but she easily evades it and back away from you.

"You're quick, Chief. Quick and steady with your hands.", Yna compliments you before raising her sword, aiming it towards you.

>Play it passively against her, try to dodge and parry while figuring out her patterns and her stance of fighting.
>Play it aggressively; A Jedi might be trained for defense, but with enough ferocious anger in your dedicated and focused blows, those defenses will crumble.
>Play it defensively, force her to go on the offensive, her weak-side.
