You are Shee Hyul, rebel leader, psychic and Reunited. Your world is ruled by inhuman creatures and this has gone on far too long, it’s time to fight back.

With Sara Yonsul gone, after a rather emotional conversation you head upstairs to the top floor of the Waystation. The empty apartment up there is a convenient place to explore this latest Gift of the Five, afterwards you’ll talk to the chef Gambon about other fighters he knows.

Once upstairs and alone, you poke the crystal thing in your head, and it unfolds, its power flowing into you, just like any other Gift you try to shape it, but instead it starts to shape you...

The powers of all Five surge and battle within you briefly and you feel unwell, you feel like throwing up and a pain grows in your head, then subsides. Maybe they just needed to reach some sort of equilibri-

Ahhh, no, hurts, AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH. You double over as pain rips you apart.

You writhe on the floor as your flesh feels like it wants to rip away from your bones. Within you the nascent godling you are is finally born. You are no longer just a human, if indeed you ever were, you are now something...more.

This is not a Gift of the Five, this is something else emerging within you. You instinctively understand the choice you have. You can choose a single aspect from the four offered, or you can try to fold this thing back up and leave it for another day, stuffing the proverbial genie back in its bottle.
>>
The Aspect you choose now, and the ones you may choose later will define you. No longer will human morality or outlook control how you understand and relate to the world, instead your Aspects will.

Aspects will have a rating, like Hope/Cynicism, actions in favour of that Aspect will raise it, actions opposed will lower it. Aspect Morality replaces Hope/Cynicism. Aspect ratings will unlock or change Gifts. Aspect bonuses/penalties are linked to Aspect level.

Once your understanding of an Aspect has reached a certain degree, and you have incorporated more of the Fives Gifts into yourself, then you will be able to select another Aspect.

Once your first Aspects rating reaches 3, and you have two or more Gifts from each of the Five, you can gain a second Aspect.

The Aspects you have to choose from reflect the choices you’ve made, the actions you’ve taken, and how you’ve directed your own growth.

The four Aspects you have to choose from are:

Aspect of Emotion
You are passion and spirit, wild and untamed.
This Aspect grants bonuses to all rolls to inspire emotions in others.
You increase any emotion-based bonuses you gain.
You suffer a penalty to Will rolls to resist emotion-based effects.
You must spend at least 1 additional point of psychic energy when using powers in stressful situations (such as combat), as you throw yourself fully into anything you do.
Gifts you have now or gain in the future will include additional emotional effects, terrifying foes, and bolstering allies.
>>
Aspect of Family
Your world consists of those you care for
This Aspect means that you suffer a bonus to all rolls when using non-harmful powers to help, benefit or aid those close to you. You add the same bonus to all combat rolls when fighting alongside those you care about.
The list of those you care for may change over time.
The context of your affection may be possessive, or not. It might be romantic, or not.
However you suffer penalties to harm those you care about, as well as take more damage if they attack you, even if they are deceived or mind-controlled.
Gifts you have now or gain in the future will include the ability to bolster, heal or monitor allies, or may simply become more effective against those who harm your loved ones.

Aspect of Impossibility
You are all that should not be
This Aspect means that your foes suffer penalties to all d20 rolls as well as defences as they doubt their own abilities around you. Blocking or countering your powers is likewise harder.
However you take more damage from anti-magic weapons and effects (rare).
Gifts you have now or gain in the future will demoralise foes, as well as break the physical and magical rules.

Aspect of Valour
You are courage, bravery and inspiring leadership in battle.
This Aspect means you gain bonuses to resist fear, as do your allies. You gain a damage bonus to any magical ability that deals damage, however you find it difficult to turn down a challenge (requires a Will roll).
Gifts you have now or gain in the future will include additional weaponised options.

And of course you have a fifth option: pack this decision away for another day, different Aspects may be offered in future, but only 4 at one time.

15 minutes to discuss, because its the start of the thread.

Vote will be called then, at last for 5 minutes.

>suffer a bonus

Otherwise, I'm mostly tempted by Emotion and Impossibility.
Valor isn't really Shees 'thing' in my eyes.
>>
>>37769821
The Aspects offered are based off of recent actions, so it is Shee's thing by definition of appearing here.
>>
>>37769801
I was about to jump for Impossibility, but

> different Aspects may be offered in future
Sounds actually viable to me, none of them really convince me currently.
Would we know when new Aspects become available?
>>

>suffer a bonus

Thanks for spotting.

>' in my eyes
I just happen to disagree with that assessment.
>>
>>37769843
>Would we know when new Aspects become available?

Not really, but they are based off recent actions, so if you want a particular Aspects, acting in a way consistent with it will probably put it on the list, especially if anons write-in saying that want a particular Aspect.
>>
>>37769801
I'd go with impossibility, given our task, or family, considering our conduct so far.
>>
>>37769801
Family was close to what was discussed about home last thread. Impossibility and Emotion are both good.

I would go for impossibility out of the 4 but the concept of fighting the Fae by maintaining order in the world still needs some discussion.

The challenge part of Valour is dangerous.
>>
>>37769863
>so if you want a particular Aspects
Do you make them up on the spot, or is there a list?
>>
>>37769876
>Do you make them up on the spot, or is there a list?

Both.

I have a list of Aspects used for Shee and other Reunited but I'm willing to write new ones if needed.
>>
>>37769801
If we go for one now, I would take Impossibility, since "breaking the rules" is the rebel thing, and while Emotion and Family fit Shee, I can't really imagine her to be "about" either.
>>
>>37769874
>by maintaining order in the world
Well, you could try to steer Shee towards a "Order" mindset, so we could gain such a Aspect later.
But I honestly can't see how we woul do that, Shee doesn't seem to particularly care for rules and order. Quite the opposite.
>>
>>37769874
Impossibility could let us fight the Reclamation by virtue of making Oneira itself not even know what the fuck.

I'm not hugely worried about the challenge aspect, we have a pretty high Willpower and there are ways to lower DCs/penalties.

>>37769821
Our in-combat behavior fits the definition fairly well.
>>
>>37769921
>Our in-combat behavior fits the definition fairly well.
True, but thats just one single part of Shees behavior and life, and otherwise she isn't particularly about Valor.
And her in-combat behavior is covered by Emotion already.
>>

So do our chosen Aspects affect our Oneira form in any way? Are we going to force Kae to make a SAN check accidentally?
>>
>>37770029
That'd be sort of cool actually.
I suspect it will affect it in some way. But its just the first step, I doubt we are already weird enough to someone who has dealt with royal fae.
>>
>>37770042
I would be very disappointed if we don't get to force SAN checks on fae at some point.
>>
>>37769995
Not much point anyway, since we are already fairly 'close' to our sceond Aspect, depending on how fast we gain Aspect rating. But two more shouldn't be too hard.
>>
Your flesh twists and writhes as your mind expands and for one brief moment you glimpse the truth about the world around you, what the fae are doing, what they truly are, and that they don’t even realise there is something controlling them. The Five were wrong, they were wrong! Trapped is not dead! You foolish men, do not use the last line of defence! You were lied to! Imperium must never-

Before your still mostly-human mind shatters under the strain the lie called *reality* is pulled back over your thoughts like a comforting blanket. You remember only fragments of what you saw, but you are left with a very strong feeling that the fae have to be stopped somehow, and that this whole world feels subtly wrong somehow.

The world is broken you realise, you need to fix it by imposing your own reality upon it. You stand up, you feel kind of weird. You flex the fingers in one hand and they bend backwards, curling into a fist with the back of your hand in the midst of it, not the palm. Then they return to *normal*.

It doesn’t really bother you, your fingers are supposed to do that, and it was a good pain anyway.

[Aspect of Impossibility 1 gained; Hope and Cynicism removed.]

Well that was...different. Once the pain has faded and you’ve had a little time to ponder your new outlook on life you head back downstairs and slip into the kitchen. There the chefs are working at cooking up the first orders of the day.

You are unnoticed as you wander into the kitchen and head towards the mountain of a man, known as Gambon.

“Gambon” you say, he turns around and looks down at you “Are Ms Hyul” he rumbles in a genial way “how can I help you?”

“I was wondering if you had a few minutes” you say “I need to talk to you.”
>>
“Of course” he says, leading you out of the kitchen and to one of the pantries “How can I help?”

“It’s about your activities as a fighter” you say “I have a few questions, if you don’t mind.”

“I don't mind” says Gambon “Fire away.”

What do you ask him? After all, you don’t know a great deal about the fighter you’re looking for.

“Who are the top fighters right now?” you ask Gambon.

Gambon looks a little surprised then answers “Well the real champion is Killer Gorg: He’s a former criminal pit slave with a lot of bionics, he’s basically a walking tank, but slow. He’s also getting old, too many head shots over the years means he sometimes forgets who he is fighting.”

“Then there’re three top contenders to knock Gorg out.” Explains Gambon

“Ray *Lightray* Maschio is a champion with control over light, can fire blasts of laser energy, and he’s fast. He’s young, a newcomer, but he’s risen to the top, really fast.”

“Rockhide is another champion with the power to turn into stone. He’s fought Gorg once already, and almost beat him. He’s been in the game longer, a veteran.”

“Donni Sezzio.He’s...I dunno about Donni” admits Gambon “He claims not to have champion powers, but he’s tough, like bullet-proof tough. I think maybe some high-end cybernetics. Most fighters have some involvement in organised crime, but no one knows who is backing Donni, bit of a mystery man, turns up for fights with only a few people in his corner, then leaves straightaway after winning. Only been around a few years, never lost, not that I heard of, anyway.”

“Thanks” you say, wondering about these people, who they are, and what secrets they have.

“Know any fighters particularly blessed by Jagganatha?” you ask.

Gambon looks thoughtful “A lot of fighters follow Jagganatha” he admits “but particularly blessed...I hear there’s a newcomer, Breaker I think he’s called. He’s been making a name for himself, he’s supposed to be very strong despite being small for a fighter. There might be more, but those who gain too many Gifts” he says “Often end up in the Underhive, really low down, I don’t fight there, too many weapons involved.”

“How does someone become a fighter?” you ask. Gambon looks you up and down critically before answering.
>>
“Anyone can be a fighter” he says “There’s small fights going on all the time, you just turn up. But if you want to earn big money you need another fighter, or agent to introduce you to the people who run the fights.”

“Do you have an agent?” you ask.

“Yeah” says Gambon “an old friend, only books me for certain matches though, he knows I’m not looking for a shot at the top, just to make some money, you want me to introduce you? He manages a few fighters.”

Do you want him to introduce you?

It’s currently early afternoon.

What do you want to do?

Shee's To Do List:

1. Clear facility of Serec (with whom?)
2. Make contacts to sell the guns.
3. Teach Dev enough about mechanics to upgrade and quickly repair his mech.
4. Activate psychic power
5. Check out the reunited leads (chaos mage, elite cop, the brawler, etc.)
6. Talk to Tom (reunited)
7. Talk to Kae

Well, no. If he does it, its one thing more they don't rely on us for.
Obviously they rely on us to do things they are literally incapable of.
>>
I just realised, couldn't we have used Adaptive Form to react to the electricity shock?
Or can it not react that fast?

Thats actually a good question. How reactive is AF, really? We haven't used it at all in that fight, can we use it at the same time with a psychic power?
>>
>>37770533
I had forgotten that. But it's still one less thing that only Shee can do, so the point still stands.

One day we will either show them how to get there or habitate the facility as both HQ and residency.

It’s time to talk to the only other Reunited you know where to find, other than Garrax.

You head back to Dust Town and locate Rainya, she’s helping the other duster women clean up after the midday meal, but happily drops what she is doing to help you.

“What’s up?” she asks, as you lead her away.

“We’re going to see another Reunited” you say “I don’t think there will be trouble, but just in case, I want to with me.”

“Right” says Rainya with a nod. The two of you head into the Hive, going to the lower levels.

Down here it’s dark, there’s graffiti everywhere. Pushers hang around and try and get you to buy drugs. Despite your past habits, you feel no real desire to take anything; your activities with Lirael keep your desire for any sort of chemical narcotic away.

You see people wearing different gang signs as you head towards where Garrax told you to find Tom. The two of you attract suspicious looks from many people, the only ones who take no interest in you are those with no interest in anything. Down here there are people just sat on the street or walking along as if in a daze, drug-addicts, dream-eaten, or people who were fed on too much by a vampire and ended up brain damaged from lack of blood.

Something about that...about this, doesn’t feel right, there’s layers of thing hidden from you. You wonder if you should be scared, or more curious.

You ask around as circumspectly as you can about the *Unseen Sorcerer* and you are directed to an old rundown warehouse. It has broken windows and there’s old industrial equipment around the place. But the doors...the doors look solid, and the locks are rusted, but not broken. Someone here takes their security seriously.

“What’s the plan?” asks Rainya.

Shee will...
>Go knock

“Stick by me” you say “and be ready for anything.”

Together the two of you go up and knock on one of the doors, the only one without an obvious padlock or blocked by debris – this must be the *customer entrance*.

The door swings open after you’ve finished knocking, huh, it felt closed when your fist hit it, maybe the Unseen Sorcerer likes to impress his clientele.

You see a darkened corridor ahead. You focus for a moment and boost your senses, the darkened corridor is suddenly easy to see, there doesn’t appear to be any traps. Next to you, you can hear Rainya’s heart beating like a drum, her breathing sounding loud and ragged, and can smell her, you can smell the scent unique to her.

“Hello?” you call out.

An echoing voice answers “Enter, and state your request.” There is no one in sight.

You and Rainya cautiously head down the corridor and enter a large room, covered in mirrors. There is no uniformity hear, just whatever mirrors the owner could scrounge up. On the ceiling, on the walls, even some free-standing around the place.

In the middle of the room is a man in a long robe, a hood pulled forward and obscuring his face. He’s sat on a large but threadbare chair.

“Why do you seek the Unseen Sorcerer?” he says in an odd, echoing voice.

Thanks to your exceptional senses, you notice a few things.

Firstly, all of your reflections in the mirrors are subtly different, in some you’re standing a little differently, in others you seem shorter, or taller, fatter or thinner. And in others...

Some reflections show you holding weapons, different ones showing different weapons, until every weapon in your arsenal is on display. Some reflections of Rainya show multiple versions of her, even though she is not using any of her other bodies at this time.

Some show Rainya holding a bow made out of multi-coloured energy, weird.
>>
And the man in front of you? He looks the same in all the reflections but...he has no scent. You can’t smell him.

But he is too detailed to be a hologram, plus holograms tend to glow, he doesn’t. A magical illusion of some kind?

What do you say?

>Make up some typical request, you have an illness you want curing or something

“I want to speak to the real you” you say, looking around the room “not the illusion.”

“Until you tell me why” says the illusion “this is all you’re getting.”

“I know you’re Reunited” you say “Garrax sent me, he wanted me to tell you that he agrees to your bargain.”

The illusion freezes in place, completely still, like a holo on pause.

“What happened?” whispers Rainya.

“I think I surprised him” you say, you point to the reflections of Rainya holding the bow of light “Look”

“What is that?” asks Rainya, he stares at the reflections, even moves her hands to trace the image of the bow in the mirror “Weird” is all she says.

But it’s meant to be there for her, you think. Just like your own joints are meant to bend both ways.

The illusion twitches and then asks “And what are Garrax’s terms, a date, a time, a place, where do we meet” the voice drops an octave “and who casts the spell? I told him already I won’t trust any High Priest of the King.”

How do you respond?

A few minutes later a door opens at the other end of the room and a man in a robe, looking very much like the illusion steps through it. In fact he looks identical to the illusion, and the robes don’t quite move right. Huh, so you see through one illusion and he thinks another will fool you-wait...you inhale, you can smell him.

The illusion walks towards you, stopping outside of arms reach, folds its arms and says “Well? When is it going to be?”

It’s hard, you can’t pinpoint the source of the smell, but there’s another person in here with you. They’re definitely not standing within the illusion, but against the wall? By the door? You can’t tell.

Playing for time is the way to go for now.

“Garrax made me the same offer” you say “and I wanted to meet you, and get a different perspective on his plan.”

“You’re...Reunited?” says the illusion, but the voice breaks up and then the illusion freezes again. You scan the room quickly but can’t see the real Tom Davis anywhere.

“And what did you say?” says the illusion after a moment, moving once more “Did you agree, or are you hear to kill me?”

You decide not to answer about being a Reunited, after all, he’s not being honest with you either...

You strain your senses, trying to find out where the real sorcerer is.

“I’m not here to kill you” you say “I just want to talk about Garrax’s deal, what do you think to it?”

“What do I think?” says the illusion in front of you “I dunno really, I think...”

There! A blur in front of a mirror at the back of the room, there’s someone there, concealed by a spell maybe, but the smell of another person is coming from that direction.

“I think” says the illusion “I think it can work, maybe, but I’m not sure, hence the spell I want Garrax to agree to, and if he has, that’s good, we just need to meet now, so when are we meeting, and where, and who is casting the spell?”

“Why does that matter?” you ask.

He gives you a scathing look “It’s clear you know nothing about magic, I’ll make it simple: a bad mage can twist the spell to hurt someone, clear enough for you?”

Yes actually, now you know what he’s scared of.

What now?

>Do you know of other Reunited?

“Do you know of any other Reunited?” you ask, directing your comment to the blur at the back of the room. Rainya shifts a little at your side.

“Wait” says the illusion “what are you doing, I’m over here, and no, I don’t know of any other reunited.”

“So what” you say, “you’re sitting it out?” again you address the blur at the back of the room.

“You need to leave now” says the illusion, raising its arms, hands emerging from long sleeves.

You shrug “Sure” you say “I don’t know when or where the spell is to be cast, all I know is someone called Xanthian is going to be casting it, want me to tell Garrax you’re ready to agree a time and a place?”

The illusion freezes for a moment, and the blur shifts a bit, what is he doing?

“I do need to send him a message” says the illusion “but your body will have to tell the tale.”

You kept the illusion in your line of sight even as you spoke to the blur, so the swarm of what look like glass shards pouring from the illusions outstretched hands doesn’t catch you off guard.

You and Rainya dodge in different directions and the hail of shards misses you both.

“Die!” yells the illusion, all around you, your reflections start banging on the mirrors as if they’re windows, and they’re trying to get out.

You see Rainya gather herself, ready to call her duplicates.

The five will accept Garrax as the sixth once he has subjugated us all through mystic rules lawyering.
Sure, its a good opportunity to waste him, and if we can't calm him down, we will. But if we kill him, it can make interaction with the others a lot harder. Because Garrax will tell them about this incidence as proof of how they must work together to take down people like us.
>>
You step in front of Rainya, and address the blur as Rainya summons a duplicate.

“I don’t want to fight you” you say “I think Garrax wants one of us dead, won’t you at least talk it out?”

The illusion sneers at you “And why you’re playing for time, you have your pet create more of herself, nice try, but you’re outnumbered.”

And with that dozens of duplicates of you and Rainya step out of the mirrors, huh, illusions, big deal, but as they raise their variety of weapons, suddenly you’re not so sure.

There’s over 30 version of you here now, and just as many Rainyas.

“I don’t think I can handle that many” says Rainya. The version of her with lightbows have drawn the bows and arrows of shining energy are pointed at her.

The illusion just stands there smirking, as the blur heads for the door at the back.

The images of you and Rainya attack you both.

The five will also probably accept if, in word or in deed, all the other members of the alliance acknowledge him as their leader. You call forth a plasma grenade from your arsenal and tell the Rainya’s “Grab on, we’re leaving!”

Both of Rainya grab hold of you tight. You focus on the area outside of the building, far enough away that any explosion won’t affect you and you feel....something blocking you, your eyes open wide as your duplicates close in and attack.

[PE 25/32]

You are subject to a storm of bullets, plasma rounds and whirring machine blades. Fortunately their sheer numbers means they can’t all come at you at once, and with so many both shooting and attacking you in close quarters, some of them hit one another. Those hit shatter into glass shards, seems they are rather fragile.

But their attacks are quite real. You are shot with slugs, burned by plasma rounds and sliced up by humming blades, the onslaught is agony. You fall to your hands and knees, barely keeping conscious.

[HP 33/78]

Rainya, where is Rainya. Is that....no, no...Rainya!

You can see what’s left of Rainya being hacked to pieces by mirror images of her, blood soaking the ground, her head rolling across the floor until it stops by your arm, open eyes staring at you.

Then you see the images of Rainya approaching another Rainya by the wall, is that, please say that’s the real one!

Rainyas back is against the wall as the images approach her, she has no weapons and she reaches in your direction with one hand “Shee help me!”

“Rainya!” you scream as your tentacles explode out of your back, damn you ruined your top.

Guns appear in your hands and your tentacles as you start laying down a hail of fire at the images, the mirrors, anything in the room that’s not you or Rainya, even as you run towards her.

Around you there are explosions of glass as your shots find their targets. Your doubles numbers are thinning, as Rainyas doubles advance on her, you wonder where did their weapons come fro- what...?

Your brain struggles to process the sight of the images of Rainya with claws, gaping jaws, machine blades jutting from palms, all manner of strange mutations. You’ll ponder that later you decide.

As you watch, Rainya summons her remaining two duplicates and they both try to defend her, unarmed against shapeshifted monsters.

Time seems to slow down as you get closer, more of your doubles have been destroyed by your guns, they’re almost all gone now.

As you continue to run towards Rainya one of her duplicates gets swarmed under by freakish twisted version of her.

You’re closer now, all your doubles are gone and your shots are thinning out Rainya’s duplicates.

Rainya and her final duplicate are backed against the wall, as you watch one of the Rainyas is pulled down by the images and...devoured.

Closer now, your relentless hail of plasma bolts is eating away at the group of images around Rainya.

Why are you moving so slowly, what is happening, this feels so strange.

Rainya is so close now, you could almost reach out and touch her.

Your plasma guns are empty now and you drop them, summoning up your machine blades and slamming into the group of freakish Rainya images even as they pin Rainya down.

You hack and stab with all of your blades until finally, there’s nothing fighting back. There’s just glass shards, scraps of flesh and blood, and you...and Rainya, lying on the floor, looking up at you her eyes unfocused, her whole body shaking and bloodstained.

You bend down to help Rainya up, she whimpers when you touch her and tries to get away from you.

“It’s alright” you tell her “it’s me, Shee”. You crouch beside her.

Rainya suddenly hugs you tight, as if afraid you’ll disappear if she lets go, you make use of the opportunity to assess her injuries. No single injury is bad, but there're a lot of them, and she’s lost a lot of blood. As Rainya hugs you and sobs, you focus on closing her wounds.

With Rainya healed you focus on your own as Rainya whimpers out “I felt them eat me Shee, oh...oh Go—arrrgglh”.

And then she throws up, you manage to twist out of the way as your friend empties her stomach all around you as the smoke gets thicker and the flames start to take hold, spreading around the room.

“C’mon” you say, standing and helping Rainya to her feet “We need to go after him.”

“Yeah, yeah we do” says Rainya shakily, as you hand her several plasma rifles. Rainya closes her eyes, concentrates...and nothing happens.

“No...” she sobs “They’re gone, all gone.”

Ah yeah, you guess they are. After a moment Rainya takes a single offered rifle, and several grenades. The two of you heading through the door at the back, just as the smoke is making it difficult to breathe.

“Are you up to this?” you whisper to Rainya

“Yeah” she says, but doesn’t sound it, before adding in a firmer voice “he needs to die!”

You enter into a darkened corridor, you can see fine, but Rainya sticks close, the walls appear to be wooden, with mirrors dotted here or there, or sometimes just tinfoil, anything reflective really. You only need to go past a couple of side passages and around a before you realise you’re in a maze of some sort. However the walls are made of cheap, probably thin, wood. You examine one, nailed to a post, yeah, less than an inch thick these boards.
>>
You try to concentrate on what your senses are telling you. Beside you is Rainya, her breathing heavy, her heartbeat rapid. And out there....is the sound of another person breathing rapidly, as if scared.

We healed while fighting in the last fight too.

>>37773514
Yeah, seriously. We gave the guy a chance, and tried to murder us. Screw him, regardless of his motivations.
>>
You put away your blades and take out your slug-thrower rifle, all the while listening for the sound of breathing. You brace yourself against a wall and put the rifle to your shoulder.

At the same time you breathe deeply, filling your lungs with smoke. You body obligingly adapts. You feel a brief pain in your chest and then you can breathe much more easily. At your side, Rainya crouches down, trying to get under the smoke.

You blot everything out and focus on the sound of breathing...there. It’s lower down, so then his head should be...you adjust your aim a little and squeeze the trigger.

In the silence that follows you hear a gurgling, liquid noise, and then another. You and Rainya advance cautiously through the maze until you find a short teenage boy, maybe your own age, lying on the floor, a bloody hole high on his chest, muscle and bone visible in the exit would. He’s alive, but barely.

“Please” he begs “please.” His voice a gurgle, he’s drowning in his own blood.

At your side Rainya shifts, you realise she is bringing her plasma rifle around to aim at him, her face blank, but her intent clear.

What do you do about him?

>Talk to him, find out what he knows

Voting for multiple actions is a popular choice, but multiple actions at once apply penalties to all rolls.

Was healing instead a possibility? Yes

Did I run through all the possibilities to pick the best one? No.

If desired I can open this up for discussion at the end of a thread about what players would like me to do regarding specific tactics in an overall plan.

THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE!
>>
You resist the impulse to interfere, what Rainya does is her call.

To the bleeding boy on the ground you say “Tell me what you know about Garrax and other Reunited and maybe I’ll heal y-”

You jump back with a small yelp as a beam of plasma energy slices through his chest and into the floor.

You turn to see Rainya grimly wave her plasma rifle back and forth until the body is just charred remains.

“Rainya...” you start, reaching out to her and putting your hand on her shoulder, she starts coughing.

“Let’s get out of here” you say, the two of you leave the burning building before the fire blocks any chance of escape.

You need to lead Rainya out, she doesn’t speak, just follows where you push her, her face blank.

When you’re both a few streets away from the burning building you try to figure out a way to help her. Ah dammit, you’re no head-doctor, whatever is wrong with her you need to....wait, you feel...everything is blurry, what-

You hear a thump as you fall to the floor.
---
All around you is darkness, and Five familiar beings.

“Congratulations” says Jagganatha “You are the first to slay a Champion.”

“What?” you say, not really understanding.

The silver form of the Infinite Mirror storms towards you, even as the King and the Ichor block its path.

“I won’t forget this” says a voice like shattering glass “You’ll never get another thing from be and my next champion will rip your head-”

“Oh” says the dark form of Baalzamon, curling around you, but looking at the Mirror “Breaking the rules of the game are you? Please say yes, just say yes, and I’ll pay the forfeit instead, go on brother, say yes.”

The Infinite Mirror pauses, and then says in a controlled, but clearly angry voice “As you have killed my chosen champion, I am bound by the terms of the contest to offer you a Gift, will you accept?”
>>
You feel the power of the Infinite Mirror surge into you, far stronger than any you’ve felt before, perhaps too strong for you to handle.

Seems he’s keeping to the word of some unknown agreement, but is trying to push so much power into you that you won’t be able to handle it.

Will DC 25

26 - 10 = 16/2 = 8, a Willmod of +8.

>>
This will take a few minutes, please be patient.
>>
>>37774457
In other words, instead of treating the threats like they're threats, you're relying on the QM going soft on you.

I hope this failure fucks us up really, really badly.
>>
>>37774457
this is also incorrect.
>>
>>37774403
>There's no benefit to taking this stupidly high risk
Well clearly there's no benefit now, because we already lost. Thanks for that captain hind sight

However there was a benefit for taking the risk, due to the dice check this was clearly going to be a very high level power. And ever since Pally reworked mirror's shit, mirror has provided some very high quality powers.

Hence, there was a chance to get something that would give us a definitive edge and despite the high chance of failure I thought it was a risk worth taking.

On top of that, just because we fail the dice check does not automatically mean we get fucked over. It just means we don't get to pick our power. Now there's a pool of abilities, along with detriments, that we will randomly get a power from.

Plus, we haven't seen the failed shaping scene yet, I'm looking forward to that.

In the end, you're side lost either way. So stop power gaming, kick your heels up, and enjoy the fire works.
>>
>>37774486
I'm not at all. I just know how it is.
I treat the threats as threats, thats why I warned people in my vote that we don't have much of a chance to meet this check.
But I realise this quest is infested with idiots that vote without thinking for a second about consequences. And I'm grateful Pally doesn't fuck us with a rake for some peoples idiocy.

>>37774514
>Thanks for that captain hind sight
People pointed out the high chance of failure before the roll.
>>
>>37774514
>So stop power gaming
Wut?
What sort of delusional are you were taking a stupoidly high risk just for some potential high power advantage is less gamey then not wanting to risk allowing the Mirror to fuck us over.
Which we got told IN CHARACTER was his plan.
>>
>>37774514
We might not even get a power. Failed shaping rolls can result in wholly negative effects with no benefit to us.

And if you read the rest of my post you would have seen that I acknowledged that risk but decided to go for it anyway.

>>37774566
>Which we got told in character was his plan
Wut? No we didn't. In character we were told he had to offer us a power for defeating his champion.
Also in character we just saw Rainya almost die despite how powerful we are, and you expect us to turn down a chance at a big power. Just because it might be bad for us? Since when has Shee ever cared about herself first? We always take the plunge even if it might turn out horrible. We let a fay read our fucking mind.

>>37774605

You accused of hindsight, I pointed it it wasn't hindsight.
>>
>>37774619
A 4/5 chance of failure for each roll in Bo3 with this quest's dice would be defined as stupidly high.

>Seems he’s keeping to the word of some unknown agreement, but is trying to push so much power into you that you won’t be able to handle it.

It's not the worst thing that could of happened as far as I can see.. but I'm always a sucker for family type powers.
>>
>>37774628
>Just because it might be bad for us?
No, because it was explicitly a trap that was ment to lure us in with high reward promises for taking a massive risk.
Something Shee has ALWAYS declined. Such wih the two party invitations, which wre basically this.
And she has never not cared about herself first. There is a specific limited amount of people she cares about, but this choice did not offer direct benefit to either of them.
>>
>>37774677
The chance of failure was very high and the potential benefits are about equal to the potential negatives.

This was not an intelligent risk to take from a statistical standpoint.
>>
>>37774677
>Which is, again, a reason why Shee would take it in character despite the risks.
No she wouldn't. Shee was never before a high-risk, high-reward person. Ever
She declined the option of spying on both fae and vampires and declined the chance to save the lives of rebelion members because she was not willing to take high risk for high reward.
>>
>>37774318
Failed the DC by one fucking point, unbelievable.
>>
>>37774736
It's not about the high-risk, high-reward, it's about the power. Shee's always gone for maximum personal power, and the potential of a huge lump of power would be enough to make her take the risk.
>>
>>37774756

The mutating power of the Infinite Mirror explodes within you as you battle with all your might to control in, inadvertently strengthening one of the other powers of the Infinite Mirror as you do so...

But the power within you is too strong, and it runs wild, you feel your body turn to glass, then you grow ten heads, then you can see a dozen version of you then, nothing.

You get up, shaking your single head on your non-glass body. You look yourself over but you see no changes, nothing visible anyway. All around you is darkness...and only four of the Five.

“What happened?” you ask, the Ichor offers you a tentacle and pulls you to your feet.

“Some people” says Baalzamon “Have no sense of subtlety, or taste.”

“The Mirror tried to destroy you” explains the King of Hell “That’s...not allowed, so he threw a tantrum instead.”

“A good one though” says Jagganatha “The challenges you will soon face will make you stronger.”

Oh joy...

“What exactly did he do?” you ask

The Ichor answers “he put thousands of images of you all over the galaxy” she said, particularly in places where Syrnian priests would find them: the bottom of the cup of sacred wine, inkblots on holy tests, breaks in stained glass windows, things of that nature.”

“That’s all?” you ask, somewhat relieved, honestly you were expecting something worse.

“The Syrnians will investigate” says the King “And may send a mission to your world, if they do, they will likely seek to kill you or take you captive.”

“Given the lack of tolerance Syrnians have” comments Baalzamon “for anything mystical, this could in interesting.”

“In war” says Jagganatha “Your true strength will be revealed.”

Lovely...

“So Tom was the Mirrors champion?” you say “That explains his power at least.”

Baalzamon crowds in close “Oh not just that” he whispers “I think the Infinite Mirror was cheating, did you wonder how you got so easily separated from your ally in the fight...hmmm?”
>>
“Don’t start that again” says the King of Hell “The rules are clear, no new favours or gifts during a battle with other Reunited.”

“I know cheating when I see it” says Baalzamon, edging away from you “and given that the Infinite Mirror is now refusing to grant her gifts...”

“Yes that is troubling” says the King, the four all exchange looks as he adds “and he really shouldn’t be able to, given the rules, but given how subjective some of the circumstances can be...?”

“Are you suggesting what I think you’re suggesting?” says Jagganatha

“I’m saying” says the King “That if the Infinite Mirror refuses to give a gift under the right conditions, one of us should instead.”

“Agreed” says the Ichor rather quickly “Shee, should you ever be refused by the Mirror, you will instead receive one of my-”

“NO!” bellows Jagganatha “No second, proxy champions or half-way measures, we all contribute, or none do.”

“I say let the mortal decide” says Baalzamon, winking at you.

“Ah first” you say, as they all four stare at you “I just wanted to be clear on a few things, I mean, I get now why nothing I did in that fight seemed to please any of you, but why was Tom so scared, I mean, why did he try so hard to kill me?”

“An excellent question” Baalzamon praises you, and three of the four look to the King of Hell.

The King glares at them and says to you “Garrax is not being entirely honest. I refuse” as the others protest he says “yes, I refuse, be quiet, I refuse to tell you his full plot, but Xanthian is a fairly well-respected black market mage, who is known for sticking to deals. However, Garrax has...something...on him and could push him to break a deal. Tom Davis knew this, but Garrax didn’t know that he knew. It was a ploy that Tom would agree to a bargain with Garrax, but it would be a one-sided bargain.”
>>
“Tom was forewarned and so thought you were somehow in Garrax’s employ, and the name of the mage was a signal to him that it was a false bargain. Also, his illusions were impressively strong against magical detection. When you let him know that you knew where he was, he feared that your power was far greater than his, and so he threw everything he had at you in an effort to kill you, then he ran and hid, the rest you know.”

“The Mirrors behaviour has been quite poor” says Baalzamon, curling around you “let me make it up to you, I offer you a gift, free of charge, one that you can shape easily.”

“Or any of us could” says the Ichor, with a snort “since our brother is determined to sulk.”

“Very well” says the King of Hell to you “Who would you want a Gift from, in lieu of the Mirror, today, and hereafter?”

You have the choice of a free gift from any of the remaining four, as well as the opportunity to nominate one, or all of them to grant gifts in future if the Mirror refuses.

10 minutes to discuss, then a five minute vote with two options: one for gift now, one for gifts in future.
>>
>>37774948
Don't quote from after the decision when pally twisted his plans to adapt to what we choose. Before we picked all 5 we didn't have any clues that we should have.
>>
>>37774998
I suggest we take a gift from Baalzamon, for the simple fact that he is the worst of the Five and pleasing him is way harder than the others.
>>
I'm think Baalzamon for the current gift because we have the lowest favor with him and he's harder to get than some.

Of course all of them should gift us if Mirror continues to be a jerk.

Also We now know Tom is definitely going to backstab us so Woo!
>>
>>37775009
We never got a choice from the Five before then.
Only the Fortune Teller asked us if we wanted a Patron, which had asbolutely nothing to do with the reunited deal, because we didn't know back then.
It was Shee being cautious and not jumping for more power that led to her discovering the better deal.
Which the other Reunited largely apaprently haven't.
Pally didn't change his plan at all, this is exactly the sort of thing he likes doing.

We never actively choose to follow all Five. We always choose to not follow specific one, and the Five told us from the start that we need all of them as patrons.
>>
>>37775044
I think Baalzamon for this gift right now, especially because he's so hard to please.

For the future, hell if I know, can we leave it open option or put it on a rotation Pally? Let's ask the five that.
They all seem rather eager to influence us, so what if we suggested that every time mirror refuses us a power, one of them gives us one in order, say Ballzy (counting this one), Jaganatha, Sea Mom, Hell Dad, Repeat.

Except we never did that. Please provide qoute of Shee doing something like that to the Fives displeasure.
The only time Shee asked something of all Five, was when she asked all of them for their Favor, which was after they told us we need all five Patrons.
>>
>>37775093
>can we leave it open option or put it on a rotation Pally?

Open option is the all option.

If you pick *all* in the next vote then each will offer when you please the infinite mirror and you will get to pick, in-character.

Not him. They didn't word it like that they said that no one had succeeded without all of their favor.
>>
>>37775097
>Parts after we made the decision don't prove me wrong though.
We didn't make any decision at that point, we had postponed the patron decision when they told us that we need all five of them.

>demanding that all gods give you a bunch of powers for free instead of just one
They're the ones that offered, we demanded nothing and postponed the decision because we wanted to know more about them before risking mental alteration.
>>
>>37775116
>Shee doing something like that to the Fives displeasure.
There isn't one, because the decision worked out. We didn't know it would work out before we made it though, which is my point. It was a high risk high reward decision to boost Shee's personal power.
>>
>>37775104
Hard to please for us then. Especially cause we never seem to take the easy lies, and the big ones were just the type that would come back to bite us in the next post or something ridiculous like that.

>>37775124
And, since we just learned that defeating other champions gives us powers from the patron of the loser, one would gain 'favor' of all of the five by beating the champions of the others.

At least that's how I'm interpreting it.
>>

I wonder Is mirror really that petty or did us taking a domain affect his attitude to us? Maybe he was hostile because we killed his champion and had an aspect opposed to his impossibility. After all choosing the impossible and making it stick is anathema to adapting to change.
>>
>>37775276
>or did us taking a domain affect his attitude to us
If anything our Domain should please him, since doing the Impossible just makes us even better at changing and adapting.

>Five: yo pick one of us

There you go, word for word quote.
>>
>>37775295
not necessarily adaptation =./= impossibility. For example surviving in the artic without, heavy fur and blubber is impossible for a human, a mirror champion would adapt, something with imposssibilty would just make it so that it would survive by forcing the world to change.

Impossbility makes the world change for it's sake
adaptation changes itself for the world's sake.
>>
>>37775339
But in the end those are just two variations of a mirror
Impossibility makes the world mirror you
Adaptability makes you mirror the world

If anything, Mirror should be please, or maybe jealous of our Domain
>>
>>37775339
I get what you mean. But I don't think he is that invested in what we change.
As long as something gets changed.
At least, I can't see it as being anathema to him to such an extent he would be hostile to us for it. Change should be better than no change to him.
>>
“I accept a gift from the Heart of Darkness for now” you say respectfully “and in future, I will consider gifts from whichever of you sees fit to offer me one, should the Infinite Mirror refuse.”

“Done!” thunders Jagganatha as Baalzamon reaches out to touch you with a scaly claw.

Baalzamon offers you a choice of 4 Gifts, no roll required

Dexterity of Baalzamon
You gain 2 ranks in this power
Each rank offers +2 to Agility, higher ranks reduce the penalties for taking multiple actions at once, as well as speed increase.

Tail
You gain both ranks in this power
With Tail 1 you grow a long black tail, perhaps four feet long, slender and agile. Initially it aids you to balance, climb and swim, adding +5 to all relevant checks.
With Tail 2 it becomes prehensile, able to act as a third hand, fully capable in all respects, though it effectively has only a single digit.

Hidden Heart
Anyone reading your mind has to beat the relevant DC by 20 points in order to read the truth, otherwise they only learn what you want them to know.
Later levels raise the amount they need to beat the DC by.

Form of Baalzamon
You are turning into a gigantic, shadowy black dragon.
Initially you gain scales that grant damage reduction and weak claws.
Later levels progress the transformation.

10 minutes to discuss, then vote.

Next post will end audience with the Four, so now is a chance for write-in questions Shee wants to ask.
>>
>>37775424
Tail. Hands down.
Hidden heart is just an inferior static version of that other gift he can offer.
Form is too much change, even if sexy change.
>>
>>37775424
>otherwise they only learn what you want them to know
How exactly does this work? Do we get asked?
Is it noticeable to them we keep things back?
>>
>>37775384
>>37775410
Maybe, I was just wondering if it wasn't our aspect that really tweaked him off not the whole losing a champion thing. That we were either rejecting him, or trying to poach his turf.
>>37775424
Hidden heart or Dex seem like the best powers. Even if someone blows past our defense they'll still see what we want them too. for the hidden heart and dex if very useful when we go full weapon spam.
>>
>>37775442
>too much change
impossible, I want form. Huge bonuses.
>>
>>37775424
>Tail
"Are you gonna be mad when I kill your champion king?
>>
>>37775424
My inner weabo says tail. Cause I want tail
That said, Hidden heart might be useful, but it's an addendum of the power we have from the King of Hell.
Dexterity is a support power, not feeling it right now.
Form isn't bad, it would serve as a finisher against more powerful opponents, especially if we level it up. Though it's not very useful right now it could prove to be incredibly potent in the right circumstances.

It's down to tail or form for me, though I'm leaning towards tail.
>>
>>37775472
This pleases Jagganatha.
>>
>>37775442
Anon, Hidden Heart *is* 'that other gift'
>>
>>37775424
>Hidden Heart
Fuck, too good, way too good. Perfect to go infiltrating parties and other important events.

Form of Baalzamon is also pretty neat.
>>
>>37775424
Dexterity, or Tail. Dex isnt really a much used stat for us, so I would say, rather not.
Tail augments our weapon spam with an additional limb. Heart is alright.
Form is neat, but since it is permanent and some pretty massive change, I would shy away from it, since peope don't trust someone who is too obviously with Baalzi.
>>
>>37775424
Could my opening the crystal have affected Mirror's view of me?
Will any of the rest of you get upset if I kill one of your champions? I don't plan on it, but considering the stakes of this "game" I will when they try to do it to me.
>>
>>37775424
You know if we turn into a dragon we will likely get a tail later on too. Just saying to all the tail supporters.
>>
>>37775517
Dex is needed for accuracy when we go storm of fire, which is going to handy clear out mobs and Serec.
>>
>>37775457
If you are unaware of the mind-reading attempt, they simply gain nothing useful.

If you are aware, or at least suspect it, players can choose what they learn.

If the mind-reader fails to beat the higher DC they believe they have succesfully read the truth.

This is about presenting a false version for them to read, not about blotting them out.
>>
>>37775522
Yeah but we also get a bunch of other stuff.
And either its a transformation we can turn on and off, and we don't have the tail constantly. Or its a permanent change, and we get a bunch of stuff we don't want.
>>
>>37775534
So, with the King's protection, we would be aware of any attempts, right? This seems a pretty good combination.
>>
>>37775424
Oh, this reminds me, are we gonna get the other thing from the shard now or has that been removed because it's 2OP?

>>37775517
Dexterity's main benefit is decreasing the penalty for multiple actions, to me.

Heart is pretty amazing for any kind of infiltration or having to keep important secrets, such as Lirael's existence.

>>37775532
The agility increase will increase the number of possible attacks and therefore the malus from SoF, though.

I would have thought since the King only warns us against influencing, and not what kind, we still wouldn't know if its mind-reading and couldn't use the active effect.

>Provided Baalzamon's champion doesn't try to snipe us off immediately I think we can get a few more gifts out of him.
I actually think Baalzamon will be the second least offended by us killing his champion.
He would probably enjoy giving us a gift for it, considering its sort of a betrayal.
>>
>>37775937
I think Jagganatha, Baalzamon and the King will keep gifting Shee even if she kills their champions.

Ichor, on the other hand...we might want to leave hers for last.

If we just imouto Ichor's champion then problem solved, all we have to do is make her subordinant to us, which will be accomplished by showing how much more caring we are than she is.

I say this expecting Ichor's champion to Kuudere.
>>
>>37775963

Yes, but the question was if he would be mad at us for having to do so. And I think he and Jaggantha are the ones least likely to get mad about it.

>>37776105
>We didn't use it to keep Rainya safe
We really need a power that allows us to protect our allies better.

So we're getting like 3 different abilities and spending money on armor, just to get a single benefit out of many that form would give us.

All this when form costs only as much as one of those abilities, and gives us more than all of them combined.

I don't see why we don't just get form.
