You are Captain WILLIAM PIERCE, a combat rescue officer of the United States Air Force.

You all instinctively flinch when the shockwave from a distant explosion rattles the walls of the building, causing your assorted plates and silverware to clatter on the table as well.

Almost immediately, the room is filled with Royal Guard, both plainclothes and in tactical gear.

"Is something the matter?" The Emperor asks calmly. You note that he looks far more at peace than his own guards.

"It seems there have been multiple incidents around the city." One of the Guards says quietly. "We believe KPA insurgents are staging massed, coordinated attacks. We must get you to safety."

"Oh dear, do they know we are here?" He asks.

"They may know you're in the city, but they do not know our exact location, considering we have not been attacked here."

"I see, I see." The Emperor sighs and turns to you. "My apologies, Captain, Lieutenant. It appears that we will have to skip dessert."

The Royal Guards quickly but quietly usher you, Janice, and the Emperor out of the restaurant and to a waiting SUV.

"My apologies, Emperor, but we might have a rough ride." The driver grunts. "Our latest reports have indicated that the KPA forces have completely blockaded the airport."

"Oh dear, perhaps we should find an alternate place to settle down?" He asks.

"Ah, there's the American consulate!" Janice says. "It's not too far from here."

"And it'll be fortified and protected by a at least a platoon of Marines." You nod. "And they should have an evac plan."

"Aburd!" The driver grunts. "To put our Emperor's life in the hands of gaijin soldiers-"

"-which is exactly why the KPA wouldn't suspect it, if they really are after the Emperor." Janice cuts in.

"My Lord, you know that we can break a hole in the KPA lines!" The driver assures him.

"Hm, both plans have their merits." The Emperor nods and turns to you. "What do you suppose we should do?"

Our American troops can help bolster the forces of the Royal Guards at our fortified Embassy while the Royal Guards helo pilots at the Airport can fly over to evac the Emperor from the Embassy-Fort.

We have to allow a method for the Royal Guards to 'save face' and mostly take charge of the evacuation.

"Taking shelter at the consulate seems like the more prudent choice." You say.

"Then that is where we shall go." The Emperor turns to the driver, smiling like a kindly grandfather. "The Emperor wills it."

"Yes, my lord." The driver nods, obviously skeptical but unwilling to disobey a direct order.

With the order given, the convoy rumbles out. In the distance, you could see thick black smoke wafting through the air while the whine of police sirens is near constant. The convoy, however, doesn't stop for any reason, dodging police, IJA patrols, KPA insurgents, and fleeing civilians. Thankfully, you don't seem to run into any serious resistance, most likely because the KPA were focusing on other strategic targets.

However, as you pull up to the road leading to the consulate, you could see Korean policemen and US Marines hastily constructing a makeshift barricade at the front gate, while snipers and machine gunners were taking positions on the upper floors. The front car in the convoy immediately stops and the Royal Guards manning it disembark, waving their arms in the air and shouting. The Korean policemen immediately recognize them and bow in respect. The Marines, however, don't quite realize what's going on and begin aiming their weapons.

"Shit!" You scowl as you roll open the sunroof on the SUV and stand up. You're still wearing your Air Force dress uniform, so the Marines could at the very least recognize you as a friendly. You wave frantically at the Marines until thankfully, a Marine officer runs out, presumably screaming curses at his men to stand down. He then waves the convoy to enter the gate.

"Jesus, you guys should at least called ahead." The Marine grunts and gives a quick salute. "Captain Parker. I'm in charge of the garrison here."

"Captain." You nod. "I'm Captain Pierce, and this is Lieutenant Foster, Pararescue. We're trying to find a safe place to evac the Japanese Emperor."

"Damn." Parker whistles. "But I don't think evac is an option. Command has told us to hunker down and ride this out. The roads are a mess and there might be MANPADS so helos are out of the question."

"Our pilots are the best in the world." One of the Royal Guards grunts. "We have been trained to handle hot extractions."

"Hey, we should probably hold off for now." You warn. "We have no idea what's out there. We should see if we can get some reinforcements here first."

The Royal Guard gives you look and then nods reluctantly.

"All right. We shall take the Emperor inside and assist in the perimeter defense." He grunts as he walks away.

"Jeez, are they all that stuffy?" Parker frowns when he's sure the Royal Guards are out of earshot.

"Pretty much, but their boss is pretty chill." You shrug. "Anyways, you got a comm line? I need to make a call."

"We already sent out a call for support. We've already got additional units coming in." Parker says.

"I'm calling in my own people." You say. "This seems like a job they'll be suited for."

"Go for it." Parker nods and waves over another Marine. "He'll show you to our communications room."

"In the meantime," Janice steps forward. "You don't happen to have an extra set of clothes and weapons, do you? I'm afraid a bit overdressed for the occasion."

"Ah, sure thing!" Parker nods, his face reddening a bit. He waves over a female consulate member.

However, before you can see anything else, you're led away to the comm room, where you dial in Kelsey's number.

"Colonel, can you hear me?" You ask.

"Pierce! You're alive!" Kelsey exclaims. "Where the hell are you?"

"I'm holed up in the American consulate with the Emperor." You say. "We're safe for now, but we're going to need some support."

"All right, we can get the Ghost Hawk out, but it's going to take a while. Seoul is pretty far off."

"Can you get anything here faster?"

"Well... Sokolov has a an experimental addon for the XF-19..." Kelsey says. "It can carry two witches on wing mounts, and Red can hitch a ride in the second seat. It's not much, but she can get there faster than anything we've got. Trouble is, Laika wouldn't be able to carry a heavy weapons load."

"Get Tarin and Jetstream ready." You say. "And have Red ride along, too."

"Got it. We'll start making the necessary preparations." Kelsey nods. "You guys just sit tight until then."

With the call done, you head back out to the courtyard, where you could see a squad of Marines gearing up.

"What's going on?" You ask Parker.

"Well, since our perimeter defenses got bolstered with Royal Guards, I was figuring that we'd have the spare manpower to send out a patrol. Just scout out what's around us, and try to deter the KPA from pushing against our perimeter."

You then see Janice, now wearing a spare Marine combat uniform and toting an M249, walk in.

"Oh no, I'll go." You shake your head. "You should stay here."

"Oh dear, do you really believe that I can't handle myself in a combat situation?" Janice smiles, though you could feel the menace rise in her voice.

"Of course not!" You say a little too quickly. "It's just, we need somebody to stay here to keep things in order. Parker sure as hell won't be able to keep the Royal Guard in line, and I'm sure they might try something stupid. I think you're a much better peacemaker than I am.

"Hmmmm, okay." Janice sighs. "I'll hold down the fort, then. You be careful, okay?" She gives you a kiss on the cheek.

You also notice the assorted Marines looking at you somewhat jealously. Well, too bad for them.

After being hastily issued a spare vest and M16, and you're somewhat ready to head into the fires of combat.

"All right, let's go!" The Marine leading the squad, a Sergeant Griggs, grunts.

The gate slowly opens, and you and the Marines hustle out of the compound. As the gates roll closed, you can't help but feel the consulate was much much farther away.

There was still a thick layer of smoke in the air, and you could still hear sirens wailing in the distance. However, the air was now punctuated with constant gunfire and screaming, which was more than a bit disconcerting. However, you don't let it show on your face.

"Whoa, hold up." Griggs hisses as he kneels down. Right away, you and the rest of the Marines take cover.

Up ahead, you could see what looked to be a large gaggle of civilians, no doubt trying to flee from the fighting. However, it didn't seem like the had a clear idea of where to go, and were just wandering around aimlessly.

"We'll just let them pass and we'll continue on." Griggs says. "We don't want to draw any more attention than we have to."

You stay quiet as the procession of civilians marches past. You feel that they'd only be in more danger if you sent them to the consulate. Plus, there was the danger that KPA infiltrators might be hiding among them. After the civilians are past, the squad continues moving.

Eventually, you begin hearing the sounds of engines. Your movements become slower as you creep toward the source of the noise.

"Contacts." Griggs whispers as he peeks around an abandoned van.

You dash up to where Griggs is hiding and peek out as well. You can see a number of trucks parked in a small plaza. Some of them were technicals, with large caliber guns mounted on the back. You see at least another one stocked with missile launchers, with a number of men lining up, no doubt to distribute it. From your count, there had to be at least eight technicals and fifty insurgents gathered in the plaza.

"Crap, that's a lot of guys." You gasp.

"And they're parked right under the primary air route leading to the consulate." Griggs adds. "Any helo headed this way won't stand a chance."

"I don't suppose you have a mortar crew?" You ask.

"Ha, you're a funny guy." Griggs laughs darkly.

"Couldn't hurt to ask."

Meanwhile, Griggs' men take position, with two of them aiming their LAWs at the parked cargo trucks. There's a brief pause before they fire, launching the two explosive shells. They're spot on, hitting the trucks right in the cargo beds with a loud bang, followed by countless others as the stocked munitions are set off. There's screams of alarm, pain, and terror as the KPA fighters flee from the inferno. You darkly note that a few of them were on fire as their fellows tried to unsuccessfully douse the flames.

"GIVE TO THEM, BOYS!" Griggs whoops as the rest of the Marines open up with their assault rifles and machine guns, cutting down another dozen or so fighters. However, as the shock and aw of the initial attack begin to wear off, the KPA fighters begin to return fire, and you could see fighters dashing for the technicals.

"All right Marines, let's move!" You yell as you head back the way you came. Behind, you can hear angry shouts and engines being revved as the KPA fighters prepare to pursue. You're at the home stretch when you see a pair of technicals round the corner behind you.

"Shit!" Griggs turns and aims his rifle, but the move is unnecessary, as a hail of bullets flies over your heads and into the technicals, shredding them to pieces and forcing the other KPA fighters and vehicles to fall back.

"And you wanted to keep ME out of trouble." Janice gives you a smug grin as she stows away her still smoking M249.

"Um, thanks, Janice." You say sheepishly.

"Good thing you came, Captain." Parker jogs up to the gate as it opens. "Our perimeter is reporting movement all over. Looks like the KPA have us surrounded."

"I guess that solves the problem of us finding them, right?" You say.

"Ha! Well said." Parker barks with laughter. "Anyways, your plane's ETA here is fifteen minutes. We have a ground convoy headed here and they should be arriving in thirty. Thing is, looks like these KPA guys want to get in before that happens."

"Naturally." You nod.

"Now, I know your witch gives us a big upper hand over these KPA guys." Parker says. "But unfortunately, we only have one of her."

Yeah, such a pity.

"This leaves us the problem of how to utilize her." Parker continues. "Now, the KPA is probably going to apply pressure from all sides, but they'll certainly focus the majority of their effort on the front gate, since it's the weakest point of our defense. We can keep her on the front gate to keep it protected, or we can keep her back in the main building as a reserve in case the KPA breaches anywhere else."

With that, you head back into the main building. You can already hear sporadic gunfire as KPA fighters begin to probe the consulate defenses. The Marines had plenty of ammo, but they had a lot of ground to protect, and you had no idea how many KPA there were out there.

"Oh dear, will there be battle?" The Emperor asks.

"Whoa, what are you doing out here?" You blink. "Shouldn't you be in the safe room?"

"Bah, it was getting boring sitting in there. Besides, as the Emperor, I have an image to uphold." The Emperor smiles. "What would the people think if I were to cower underground during this crisis? Besides, the consulate staff have assured me this building has been built to withstand attacks such as these."

"Still, I would advise you stay way from the windows." Janice sighs.

"Watch out!" You hear a Marine yell and there's a loud CRASH of metal grinding against metal. You and Janice look to the front gate, where you see an armored bus ramming against the front gate.

"My, they are very resourceful." The Emperor frowns.

"Janice?"

"Gladly." Janice mounts her MG on the windowsill and fires down on the bus, her magically enhanced bullets punching through the armor plates like paper. Thick smoke leaks out from the vehicle and the vehicle ends up being stuck against the gate, forming a new obstacle.

"Nice shooting."

"Why thank you!"

"We've got lots of KPA swarming the back wall!" You hear a Marine yell. "They got fucking assault ladders and they're trying to scale the wall!"

"Same thing here!" Another defender reports.

The gunfire begins to intensify. Damn, it was a freaking full court press here! At least they didn't have rocket or missile launchers to add to the mix!

"Willy! WIlly! Can you hear me?" You hear Laika's voice. Oh boy did it sound angelic.

"Laika!" You key your radio. "Are you at the consulate?"

"Yep!" Laika says excitedly. "I got Reddy, Tarin, and Jetstream here, too!"

"Soften them up with strafing runs, Laika!" You yell. "Anything you see immediately outside the compound is hostile!"

"Got it!" Laika says happily. You then see the angular form of the XF-19 screech over head, tracers lighting up the night as the plane rains bullets down on the KPA positions. Cannon rounds tear from vehicle and person alike, and sends KPA forces scattering, giving you some breathing room.

"Orders, sir?" Tarin asks, hovering just beside you. Jesus, when did she get here?

"Let's cut down these honorless dogs!" Jetstream exclaims, with a katana in one hand and SMG in the other.

They never see the stealth Tarin behind them with a knife.

"Search and destroy, girls. Take them all out!" You say grimly.

"Yes sir." Tarin nods as she fades out of existence.

"Gladly!" Jestream grins with barely restrained bloodthirst.

Meanwhile, Laika brings the XF-19 down, using the vectored thrust engines to keep it hovering above the courtyard long enough for Red to pop the canopy and jump down. Once Red gets a safe distance away, Laika powers up the engines and the XF-19 goes roaring into the air.

The next half hour is just brutal for the attacking KPA. Those that managed to reach the walls and managed to scale to the top were instantly beheaded as Jetstream flew past and chased them down, cutting down fleeing KPA fighters like wheat. Meanwhile, an unseen phantom stalked the KPA rear lines, picking off individual soldiers and demolishing trucks carrying supplies and reinforcements.

Meanwhile, in the sky, Laika's XF-19 was like a mighty flying beast from ancient times, swooping down to attack targets of opportunity and preventing the exhausted KPA from regrouping.

And even more demoralizing to the KPA was that thanks to Janice and Red's efforts, battlefield treatment of the wounded was a simple matter. You were sure the KPA were confused as to how troops that had previously suffered grievous injuries were suddenly returning to the frontlines as if nothing had happened. Soon enough, the KPA fighters in the area have had enough and begin to withdraw. The consulate defenders, both Marine and Royal Guard, begin to cheer.

And as always, the relief convoy arrives, just in time to practically miss everything. However, at least they managed to open up a safe evacuation corridor. The consulate staff as well as the Emperor are given first priority to be shipped out. However, as you escort him to the waiting convoy, he pauses for a second.

"Thank you, Captain Pierce. It appears that I owe you and your witches my life." The Emperor bows to you.

"Just doing my job, sir." You nod your head and turn to his Royal Guard. "Besides, I doubt you were in any serious danger."

"Perhaps so, but you still made a great effort." The Emperor's smile then fades. "However, today has been far more trouble than I initially believed."

"What happened?" You ask.

"I had initially thought the KPA only attacked Seoul." The Emperor sighs. "But in fact, similar attacks have been staged simultaneously in almost every major city in Korea."

"Jesus." You gasp.

"This will cause many great difficulties." The Emperor sighs. "Not only will it stretch our forces thinner, but now many of my ministers will push for tighter control on Korea. I will have many fires to put out when I return to Tokyo."

"I wish you the best of luck." You say, mulling about today's events as well as what Anderson had told you. Maybe they were connected somehow....?

"Soooooooo." Red sidles up next to you. "How was the date, Cap?"

"It wasn't a date, Red." You grunt.

"Really? A night out in town, a nice dinner, and shooting up a bunch of terrorists? I'd call that an awesome date!" Red grins and prods you with her elbow. "Well?"

"I'm interested to know what happened as well." Tarin says, appearing out of nowhere like usual.

"I'm actually a bit more interested in what the Emperor spoke to you about. Jetstream says as she walks in.

"Now, girls." Janice swoops in, wrapping her arms around you. "Let's not pester our CO with too many questions, now. He's just been through a rather harrying ordeal."

"Fine, fine." Red rolls her eyes.

At that moment, you see the Ghost Hawk pull into view, here to take you home. The XF-19 also flies by and waggles its wings before turning towards the coast.

Here, among you witches, all of your worries wash away. At least for now.

>>
>>37792083
Hey Merc has there ever been any risk of PJs getting ahead of mainline since you usually skip a few days every thread? Or does it not really matter since they are a world apart and you aren't really counting the date?
>>
>>37792109
When did Bree get a boyfriend?

When we first went home.

>>
>>37792138

Once upon a time, he said that's why we don't get more PJW- because he doesn't want to jump ahead of 89, and my own pacing is measured in ice ages.

I thought I might pick it up a bit, but if I do, it'll have to wait until after I move.
>>

>>

>I thought I might pick it up a bit
Please don't, we already miss things and skip over way too much as it is.
>>
>>37792677
> skip over way too much as it is.
Yeah, like Wendy's birthday party, which Ghost said we'd see more of when we got back, and there's been nothing about it mentioned since.
>>
>>37792760
Wendy's birthday party is not a big deal.
>>
>>37792861
But it was promised we would get to see it through, like many many other events, that we have to leave as soon as things start, and then we skip forward a week and never see any more of those events, and its really annoying.
>>
>>37792881
It's only annoying to spergs. We've really not missed anything of import.
>>
>>37792896
Its not the import of it that matters anon, its like having a child and then just abandoning them except for main events like when they are old enough to go to school for the first time, then never seeing them again until its time to enroll them in high school, you would be a fucking atrocious parent.

The downtime and preparation segments of the quest are equally as important as the action segments, and if you skimp on the downtime and just cut away in the middle of it, it leaves a sour taste and detracts from the quality of the quest.

Ghost randomly skipping ahead a week in the middle of an event we've been waiting months to see happen is a big problem of his, and now he wants to speed his pacing up even more when its already got plenty of holes in it? That's a terrible idea.
>>
>>37792918
This is nothing like having a child. You are a socially maladjusted loon.
>>
>>37792937
Good job completely missing the point anon, after that I very much doubt you possess the qualifications to make such judgements on others when your reading comprehension is so poor.
>>
>>37792918
And so what should Ghost do to 'amend' it?
Chronologically the party is already over when we chilling in Alaska prior our mission, and dedicating a thread solely for that party would still make some anon unsatisfied because they want Ghost to just going on.
We got good part on party and that's good enough.
>>
>>37793005
He can't do anything to 'amend' it, but he should work to not keep skipping out on things like that.

Ghost talked up the party and how it would be awesome at least a month before hand, and the end result of all that? We got 5 minutes of it before we were rudely interupted and timeskipped a week ahead to go do secret squirrel crap, all of which should have come after the party was finished.
>>
>>37793035
Because the party is unimportant and you are an angry waifushit
>>
>>37793035
To do secret squirrel crap, which i need to remind you we have to do if we want our RIO stays with us.
Beside, we got a good time on party and its preparation before we leave for mission.
If you want to complaint about this particular point, find another example.
>>
>>37793117
but muh birfdey party anon
