Kaori's missing, Kaori's missing, Kaori's missing.

"KAORI'S MISSING!" I yell in desperation.
"C-calm down, Masami." Aiko says, grabbing my shoulders.

I am Itsukuma Masami, and my sister is completely uncontrollable!

Yesterday she wanted to meet with her father, and she did. Then she was sad because her father said mean things to her, so I calmed her down. Today she's outright missing and I can't find her anywhere.

I called Mom and told her about it, but she just did the stupid stern adult 'Okay be calm I'll look for her don't do anything'. She always thinks she's in control, and it's infuriating! Especially now when Kaori has this awful habit of running away from us!

I don't even know where she could have gone at this point.

"M-masami, wait. Calm down. There's no reason to think anything is wrong, she could just be sulking somewhere again!"

I.. guess that's right. But I never know for sure.

I am Magi-
No, no I am Kaori. And I am so angry right now that I could scream.

Maybe I will.
"OPEN UP!" I yell at the completely immovable door leading to the top floor of the building. Of course I don't expect it to comply with mere words .

My shoulder rams into the cold steel once again. Nothing, even with super-strength granted from a magic card, I can not break down this door.

This sucks, I thought I could just break the door. Or at the very least they wouldn't think to lock it. Who locks a rooftop door?

I don't want to go back, not now, not yet.
Not until I get Dad out of my life. I can never go back until then.

My phone is buzzing in my pocket, but I ignore it. I already know who it probably is, either Mom calling to cry at me or Asai calling to taunt me. I don't need either of those right now.

I want to say that I expected this, but that would mean that I had any kind of plan to begin with. Which I didn't. This is very spur of the moment righteous vengeance.

Click
Something in the door tumbles and falls into place.
With a mighty push, the door flies open and smacks me right in the face!

I scramble to my feet and rush toward the now completely ajar door. Just for it to slam in my face from an unseen force! I pull and tear at the handle, but to no avail. Somehow the door just opened specifically to bop me in the nose.

Even the BUILDING is a jerk, how does it do it!?

"YOU OPEN THIS DOOR RIGHT NOW!" I yell at it.

Nothing.

"ASAI! I KNOW YOU CAN HEAR THIS SOMEHOW! OPEN UP!"

Again, nothing.

"DAD! I KNOW YOU'RE IN THERE! DON'T JUST IGNORE ME, I'LL FIND A WAY IN EVENTUALLY!"

...

I will, I promise!

A few more minutes of waiting pass by until a voice seems to pierce the exterior of the whole building. It's grimy, it's disgusting, it's slime.
It's Asai.

"Excuse me, Miss? Do you have your workers badge with you?"
"LET ME IN RIGHT NOW!"

Laughing, it's like him to always laugh at the dumbest things.

"Now, now, you know it's not like me to simply let anyone into my building. Why don't you state why you're here and we can work from there."

"LET ME IN THIS DOOR OR ELSE!"

Laughing, more maniacal laughing. Does he ever do anything except laugh?
I would love to go in and just wipe that smug smile right off his face.

I collapse onto the gravely surface of the roof.
No matter how hard I fight, no matter how much I try, it's never good enough.
Why is it Masami gets everything in life handed to her-

"BUT
I
CAN'T
HAVE
A
FATHER!?"

I hate myself, I hate my family, I hate this building, I hate Asai, I hate everything I've ever worked for.
And.. I hate to say this..
"I hate Masami."

I let those words sit in my mouth for a few minutes. I can't believe I'm actually saying them, but I can't think of anything else that can explain the extreme distaste in my voice.
"I HATE MASAMI!"

She caused EVERYTHING. She dragged me away from home, she's the one who angered my father, she's the reason I even HAD TO GO TO SCHOOL IN THE FIRST PLACE!
The whole reason I was even SENT to school was to spy on Empress and to spy on Masami.

And now she has a family, and I don't have one.

Why am I crying still? I don't want Asai to see me like this... Anyone but him.
He'd probably just find me suffering to be the funniest thing, the JERK.

The door clicks once again, but I'm not foolish enough to try rushing at it just for him to tease me.
"UNLESS YOU'RE DAD GO AWAY!" I yell as the door slowly starts to open.

"D..."

He's as stone-faced as ever. This may actually mark the first time I've ever seen him in the sunlight. The light reflects poorly off his alabaster skin, revealing a multitude of liver spots and tiny imperfections.

"Dad?!"
"Magician." He says, only a cold glare thrown in my direction.

This... is awkward.
I don't even know what to say to him now.

"I've told you before Magician, you are not my daughter, and I am not your father."

TH-
I pull at the uncomfortable suit I'm in. I don't know why I chose to wear this stupid disguise again. I just thought it would be easier to fight in if I took off the mask.

But right now, I'm nervous, and starting to sweat bullets. I should have wore something cooler than this.

Hold on.
I hear something pounding on the other side of the door that just shut behind him. Is someone else trying to get onto the roof as well?

>"You may not be, which is why I will free myself from you, right now!"

I.... I...

"I DON'T KNOW ANYMORE WHAT I WANT! I JUST WANT THINGS TO GO BACK THE WAY THEY WERE!"

I think that's what I want, but I'm not even sure anymore.

He stares at me coldly,
"You can live with me again, but you can never be my daughter. As you never were. You should be wanting that, because this is the way it has always been."

Every word of his is like a bullet piercing straight through my heart.

I fall to my knees, not even caring if he sees me cry like this.
I don't know what else to say, he's clearly won. And there's nothing I can do to ever have a family ever again.

I don't have a family.

He turns to leave, and I try to say something. I find myself shuddering under the tears and agony. I can't find the words that would bring my father back into my life.

"B-" Is as far as I get before my face meets the gravel and the tears start to flow once more.

He grabs the handle harshly and pulls at the door.
The door, on the other hand, doesn't open.

His hands grip into fists as he grabs the handle one more time, just for the door to not budge.
"Asai." He says, sternly and coldly, "Open this door."

Silence.

At least Asai is a jerk to everybody. That's some consolation, right?

"Asai, if you think this is funny then you are sorely mistaken." He says, once again in a deadpan voice.
This time, I can almost sense a hint of anger and vitriol.

"HEY CHAIRMAN!" I yell at him.
He turns around to face me. Which was his mistake!

The second his stupid block of a head comes into view, my fist pops him right across the jawline!
For one time in my life, he seems genuinely confused and hurt about something! Perfect!

"IF YOU DON'T WANT A DAUGHTER THAN YOU CAN HAVE A BLACK EYE INSTEAD!" I scream right in his face.

My fist winds up and clocks him again, straight across his cheekbone. He stumbles back and grabs at the door handle a few more times.

His face scrunches, and his voice becomes gravely.

"Good girls listen to their elders."
He brings his hand up, in particular his fist.

On his hand is something I never really noticed before. It's a ring, with a red gem inset in the center of it.

I don't really care though! My hand moves up and goes for the follow-through. For someone I always thought was scary and intimidating, he's being a real pushover right now!

"Please, be a good girl."

A-

My hand tries to move, but it doesn't.
My arms try to fight him, but they can't.

I am Itsukuma Masami. And everything is going terrible! Kaori ran off to Fortune on her own and I had to learn about it from that monster!

Mom didn't even call me and tell me that she found her, what is going on over there?!

Right now, I'm flying several hundred feet above the city. At this rate I should reach Fortune in a minute or two.
The monster, in an extremely skilled flying maneuver, is flying only a few inches away from me at arms length. Where did he learn to do that?

"Masami." He says, "Look ahead."

Two.. No three dots on the horizon. They appear to be speeding toward us.

"I thought this may happen. He anticipated your arrival."

"Who's 'He'?!"

"Asai... He was very insistent with everyone that no one interrupt this meeting."

Wait.. How did Dad know about this meeting? Kaori just ran off on her own! What is going on?!

"If you'd like, Masami. I can stall them while you go on ahead."

"I need to get to my sister! Could you!?"

I can't see any kind of face on him, but I could have swore a part of him seems to be smiling.

"Of course, Masami. Air combat is my specialty."

Wait, it is?

Without any warning, he blasts off ahead of me at the dots.
I could have swore that on his charge, one of the dots turned into two dots, which both plummeted uselessly to the ground.
Yikes.

Without wasting any more time, I rise over the aerial fighting and make a beeline straight for Fortune.

--

There's the rooftop! And there's Kaori!
And there's-
..
There's an old man that seems to be having problems opening a door.

And Mom still isn't picking up her phone, what is going on!?

My feet land HARD on the gravel as I assume a combat stance.
Quickly, I make my way over to Kaori, who doesn't even acknowledge me as I approach.

"Sis!" I yell at her. Nothing.

"Kaoriiii!" I yell at her again, no response.
She seems completely frozen in place, like a statue.

Quietly, I walk up behind her and tap her on the shoulder.
Still nothing. No response, no words, just disturbing silence.

"Asai, when I get in there you will face my wrath."

Up until the big guy says that. That kind of ruined the mood.

"K...Kaori?"
I gently step around her to look at her face.

The coloration of her face, the glimmer in her eyes, all of it seems to be missing.
"KAORI!" I scream as I grab her into a hug.

But unlike usual, she doesn't hug back. She feels almost cold, and clammy. The only sound I can hear is the faint sound of her breaths.

"Wha-" I step back, in horror.
There's only one reason she could be like this.

"WHAT DID YOU DO TO MY SISTER!?" I scream at the top of my lungs at the Chairman. Who has since given up trying to get in the door and has spun around to face me.

"Oh, Priestess, what timing. Help me get this door open, I know you have the power to destroy it." He says, paying no mind to my sister who stands frozen behind me.

"W-WHA?!"
He can't be serious.

The tears, I can feel them burning at the edges of my eyes.

"BRING KAORI BACK"

But they aren't of sadness, or even fear. It's a new feeling that I'm not sure I've experienced much of.

"OR I WILL KILL YOU!"

Hatred, I haven't truly hated a lot of things in life. A couple monsters really got on my nerves and made me angry. This, feels different somehow.

This man, this man is the first person to have ever made me feel this angry. The feeling of pure vitriol and hatred for this one man burns through my veins. Hatred for the man who has hurt my sister.

"I forgot Magician was a sticking point for you, Priestess. She's merely like this for a few minutes. I can make her turn back sooner, if you help me open this door."

NO NO, THAT'S NOT THE DEAL I MADE.

"How about you turn Kaori back to normal OR I WILL THROW YOU THROUGH THAT DOOR."

I was going to put Julie on, but sometime when I found out Kaori was in 'time-out' and the Chairman threatened me, I already put her on. I barely even noticed that her sword was gleaming in my hand.

"You've always been quite rude, Priestess." He says, sighing. "Perhaps you need a time-out as well."

There's a light scream from the other side of the door. But I pay no attention to it.
Slowly, the chairman lifts his hand and shows his fist toward me. On his ring finger, there is a gold, sigil-laden band with an inset ruby.

"Please learn your manners."

His ring.. It makes me feel something.
Something about it.. Makes me want to, um. Not sure how to put this. It's like something is different about him.

Wait I know what it is.

"YOUR JEWELERY IS STUPID AND IT MAKES YOU LOOK FAT AND BALD!" I scream at him.

His face contorts, maybe for the first time I've ever seen it contort and twist into something resembling an emotion.
"Bu-"

He just said something under his breath.
"Ohh? What was that? Want to say it again?"

"BU-" He says again, the contorsion almost making him look like a real human.

Suddenly, out of no where, a girly shriek pierces the air.

"LET ME IN LET ME IN LET ME IN LET ME IN LET ME IN LET ME IN LET ME INNNN"

He grabs and pulls at the door handle. It neither budges nor moves.

Because I think the former wasn't as popular as the latter.

Former. But it's really hard to tell honestly. I think some people are confused.

I think so too. Since most people said Take when it was explicitly about the ring, I think the majority wants to punch him, and take the ring. Not punch him with the ring.

Yeah, I don't really see any point in punching him with the ring.

it's probably both the time (euros are starting to wake up?) and the HAPPENINGS

>>37811987
I want to do more than hit him once. Of course I might be underestimating Masami's strength.

But just one slug seems a bit low for someone who hurt our sister. Especially when we had a number of people voting to put his head through a door.
>>
Oh don't worry, you're going to hurt him good with more than just one punch. Sorry if I didn't make that clear.

The Hospital is soon to have a new patient
>>
>>37812013
This is about if we punch him with the ring or not. The "Hurt him some" still stands.
About as many people asked for restraint as people asked for putting his head through the door.

>Of course I might be underestimating Masami's strength.
I think you do.

Honestly, though?
I get the feeling we're gonna have to fight Kaori sooner than later. Just to at least let her get the aggression out.

I think you are quite severely underestimating Masami's strength, which is strange considering that the Chairman just told her to break down a rather hefty door.

This man.
How much control does he really have?

"Chairman! I want to know exactly what kind of person you are."
My smile gets bigger, I shouldn't be enjoying this, but I feel like I am.

"ASAI SERIOUSLY THIS ISN'T FUNNY YOU'RE GOING TO BE UNSUMMONED FOR THIS IF YOU DON'T OPEN UP RIGHT NOW"

I walk up closer, and closer to him. The more I walk, the more he struggles with the door.

He spins around and slams himself against the cold steel.

"WAIT! PRIESTESS!"
"You're the 'Master' this building, right? So I guess that means everything is your fault."

"NO NO NO NONONO THAT'S NOT ENTIRELY TRUE! PRIESTESS!"

Priestess..

He's the one who enslaved Kaori.
He's the one who nearly worked Mom to death.
He's the reason I have that name.
He's the reason my friends were in danger throughout their childhoods

In the end, he's the sole reason so many people have been hurt. Maybe everyone else followed his orders, but he's still the one who made them.
"W-WAIT-WAIT-WAIT PRIESTESS!"

"'Priestess', Chairman?"
"N-NO I MEAN MASAMI! THE KIND MASAMI!"

Come on, think of something really cool!

"You call me 'Priestess', but after today you will know me as Justice! And I will be the one to weigh your sins!"

The first punch snaps through the air, connecting with an already reddened spot on his jawline.
Little does he know, that was only the first punch.

I grab him by the arm, and twist it.
Which leaves him open for a kick straight to his midsection!

He struggles to maintain his composure, but I don't let him stand for it! He tries once more to flash his jewelery at me.

So I grab him by the palm, twist open his hand, and yank it right off!
Then I sock him in the face.

I think about Kaori, how long she's lived with him, how she STILL thinks he's her father, and how he's finally gone too far.
With a final kick to his ribs, I send him right at the door, and straight through it! He tumbles down the stairwell before coming to a rest in one of the corners.

>>37812395
Whatever we do, crying will most certianly be involved.

But I assume Masami will have a bit of a "What have I done?" moment after Dad congratulates her on being a fantastic daughter.

Wait, there's a figure waiting just on the other side of the door!
"KAORI! MASAMI!"

Mom!
She runs straight at Kaori, who is now showing coloration and redness on her face. Mom catches her before she falls flat onto the gravel.

"SIS!" I yell as I run up behind her in a hug.

"uhhhmm." She wearily replies. But at least she's replying! That's worth something!

"SIS, SIS, SISTER!" I repeat over and over again.

"M-Masami? Mom?"
"SIS! WHAT IS IT!? SIS!"

"..Is this real?"

My eyes, it's suddenly covered in a rainstorm. Judging by how Mom's reacting, hers are as well.

We clutch the newest member of our family close. These tears are not born of anger, not anymore. They're now tears of joy and relief. Relief to finally have my sister back.

The three of us sit in the filthy gravel on the rooftop for what feels like an hour, crying and bawling.

--

We composed ourselves in time for the police to arrive.
Dad felt it necessary to involve them just so no one asks why there's a beaten and battered man in the hospital with as many punch and kick marks as he has.

Thankfully, he took my side. Claiming to have video evidence of him assaulting me first. How? I don't know, and I really don't want to know.

We leave Fortune HQ rather wordlessly. The paramedics pass us on the way up to collect the beaten and battered Chairman. No monster or anyone in the building bothers to even make eye contact with us as we leave.
Except Asai, he seemed giddy for some reason. He could barely get through talking to the police without giggling like a schoolchild. What a creepy jerk!

But the people who aren't gonna take my side? Kaori, and Mom. They're still wordless, but I know deep down I'll have to confront them about it.

Dinner goes by silently. None of us can think of what we want to say to one another.

The silence is hurting me.
Butterflies gather in my stomach each passing second. Do they hate me? Does Kaori hate me? I mean, I DID beat up her father into a pulp. That probably doesn't help the 'joining our family' thing!

Every now and then she glances up at me, and her face tells her words completely.

Mom didn't want Kaori and the Chairman fighting, and Kaori still thought the Chairman was her father.

The butterflies are trying to escape again as Mom approaches. She has her disappointed-but-stern face on that I know too well.

She sighs as she stands above me. This is it, I'm really going to get it this time.

And then she wraps her arms around me.

"THAT WAS SO DANGEROUS I TOLD YOU TO STAY AT SCHOOL!" Mom cries as loud as she possibly can as she clutches me.

Oh, that's it?

"You know I would never do that, Mom."
"I KNOW, THAT'S WHY I'M SO UPSET"

I look over toward Kaori, and she seems to be pouting as well. With a reddened face, she stands up and slams her hands onto the table.
"You know what I'm mad about, Sis!?"

Wait
"Did you just call me-"
"I'M MAD BECAUSE YOU GOT TO BEAT HIM UP AND I DIDN'T! I REALLY TRIED TOO!"

What?
"Well! Um! I was worried about you! And you weren't saying anything so-"
"No excuses! You got to beat him up and now I'll never get to! You're a mean sister!"
I'm a!?
"I'm.. a mean sister!?"
"That's right!" She full-on pouts now. "Only a mean sister would beat up someone's dad without permission!"

But!
"I'm not mean!" I pout back at her.
"Am too!" She crosses her arms. "Aiko's sister wouldn't do that, why would you!"

I hear a.. giggling sound?
"Mom, why are you laughing? This is serious!"
"PFFFT-"

She's really laughing now, but I don't get what's so funny!

"YOU TWO ARE JUST SO CUTE!"
Without warning, she grabs both of us into a surprise hug!

"MOM, PLEASE!"

The paramedics put the Chairman onto a stretcher.

But I just smile and nod!

I'm Asai-
Ooh! Ooh! How about 'Itsukuma Asai!' Ha! That has such a lovely ring to it!
I should put that on my business cards, and see what Empress thinks!

"oooohhhhhh." A rather gruff moan emits from the battered body.

"Something wrong, Sir?"
"Y-." It starts to say, before returning to a whisper.

"you knew this would happen, didn't you?" He says, feeling his hand for a certain something that seems to be missing.

"Looking for something, Chairman?"
"w-where is it?"

"I think Priestess has it." I reply, trying to keep a straight face.

I look over to the jester, and he looks like he's going to explode with laughter. He's the coolest guy in the building!

"listen... asai... i'll be out of action for a while so-"
"Of course, Chairman! You'll get all the best treatment Fortune can afford. And when you're released, we'll put you into rehab at the finest clinic-"

"no that's not it at all Asai. take it from empress and her wards. desummon them and bring me the sigil"

An 'Order'?

"Say, Chairman, how much do you really need it?"
"i.. must have it." He replies in a lower-than-whisper. "i will return.. in a few weeks. so-"

"Excuse me, Doc?" I say to the men who just walked into the room. "Can you list off his injuries?"

Their banal medical descriptions, it's like the gifts I got for Christmas!

I look back toward him, "So you won't be 'returning' to anything. Except a wheelchair, that is. In the meantime, Fortune will need a new Chairman."

"asai.. you can't be serious... you will obey. that is an ORDER!"

"Yes yes! Obey orders! That is my job, and my mission! But in the meantime, I'll take the heavy weight of the crown off your shoulders."
He tries to say something, but the paramedics take him away.

Masami, you don't realize it but you've made your old man very proud today. You are the best daughter a father could have.

Okay, okay. Real life stuff.

I told my other quest this, so now it's your turn!

I got a new job. A new job that will require me to move!
Move where? Somewhere that currently does not have internet.

I have a wireless 3G card somewhere I can use in the meantime. It's never been a very good card. It's been kind of crap ever since I bought the thing.

Furthermore, I'm also not sure how much time I'll have. I can tell you right now I won't be able to run until the early hours of the morning like tonight if I get a job I have to wake up for at 6. Especially considering that I really don't want to piss off the new bosses!

What does this mean? This means that the only time I may have to quest AT ALL is on the weekends or late at night! and I'm not sure how long the quest threads are going to be!

The good news: I'll probably have no other form of entertainment except running quests. I don't have another computer that can play games, especially over there. It'll just be a laptop from the 00s that has problems running Matlab, much less a video game.

What will this mean? How will this change the schedule? I don't really know. And I'm sorry I can't tell you. It may not change anything! I might get more time to run after I move to a city where I have no friends or family. But I want everyone to know in case it changes my schedule for the worst.

Sorry for suddenly springing this on you guys, but it was kind of sudden and unexpected for me! Just a few days ago it was "When can you start working!?" and I jumped at the opportunity. So we'll work around this as time goes on! We're in the final stretch of the quest, and I intend to finish it on time!

Thanks for the thread everyone!

If I was comparing this to a little girl show don't judge, please I would say we just entered the final arc. Episode number 39 or so.

I had the idea at one time for a thread to be one episode, but I'm so slow! There's no way that would work!
So you'll be seeing CPM threads for a while longer.
