> [[ Ancient Cathedral // PVP Disabled ]]

"Alright..." Ayla's voice echoes throughout the ancient cathedral's halls. You hear running water from outside, and the sound of distant hoof-beats on stone, but not much else. There's a pronounced hollowness to your own steps, and through cracks and gaps in the brick floor, you think you can see something below. A basement, perhaps an underground river? Likely, more of the abyss you beheld from above.

You and Nel are leading the group, with the other three following close behind as you walk down the aisle, weapons at the ready. He created a pretty suitable map of the area, but it's not terribly complicated. There's six pillars, three on either side of the room past the disheveled pews; it seems they once held up the ceiling, but are now mostly broken, though they still stand much taller than you. It's dusty, and dark, save for a faint light from outside, and more flecks of glowing quartz in the ceiling above.

Behind you, the exit. Ahead, at the far end behind a stone podium, a filled-in arch in the wall is divided, bearing an intricate sandstone mosaic with a keystone missing in the center; it looks like it could open up to something with some coercion. There's doors on either side of the room, as well; through one, you can see a staircase descending into darkness, where you imagine Nel encountered the Pegasus.

"We'll have a lot of room when we fight," Nel says.

"Which means, don't rush if we don't have to." Ayla adds. "Bosses have unpredictable attack patterns, as I'm sure you've observed, so we'll have to adapt quickly."

"I'm expecting a lot of charging and swooping." Nel folds his arms, observing the room. "Dodging side-to-side seems obvious, and I think Tatsu's quick enough that she might be able to get on top of it, if that doesn't sound too reckless. The thing looks damn intimidating, though..."

"You think those guys outside fought it before?" Vision asks.

"Not sure." You reply.

You take a moment to patch yourself up. Your wounds don't hurt, but there's a dull sensation, a ubiquitous soreness that's just tiring enough to feel real.

"Alright, spread out a little bit." He says, heading for the far door and turning to shout before vanishing into the darkness below. "And get ready!"

You hear an incoherent yell, followed by rapid hoofbeats from below, and take a quick look at the rest of the party. Tatsumaki is waiting at your side. You need more Celestial Gems. Vision has his longcaster trained on the opening, and Ayla's standing behind you, tossing an orb up and down in her hand; it's got a translucent window on its surface that looks like it's made of something like fractaline crystal, and you can see it's sparking on the inside.

"Hey," You ask; so that's what she was talking about. "Will that damage us in a no-PVP zone?"

"Uhm." She smiles. "Food for thought."

"Guess it's better safe than sorry." Vision shrugs.

"He's getting close." Ayla says, stashing the explosive in favor of her guns. You and Tatsumaki take a step forward, assuming fighting stances. "Get ready."

Nel emerges, the boss at his heels, wings unfurled overhead. It's much bigger than you imagined, onyx body ornamented in gold and jewels. It's wearing gilded armor, and has great granite hooves, with a glaring runed stump where a head should go.

The Obsidian Pegasus skids to a stop mere feet away from Nel, who jumps backwards, lashing at it with his daggers as Vision and Ayla open fire. As you begin moving forward, it rears back, and makes a ghastly noise vaguely reminiscent of a horse's whinny. The runes on its head glow, and you hear ubiquitous chanting as an orb of red light forms in the air in front of it.

Nel activates that skill again, moving back towards you on a seemingly-impossible vector and leaving luminescent after-images in his path. He narrowly dodges what comes next; the Pegasus stomps the ground, and the orb explodes with a massive blast of screaming red light and smoke.

You instinctively shield yourself from debris. It might be nerves, but you find yourself grinning.

"When it rears up, dodge!" Ayla barks, opening fire and running to the left. "Tatsumaki, go around!"

"Yes!" Tatsumaki responds, running faster than you saw her before.

"Ascheritte!" She continues. Vision's moving in the opposite direction, firing whenever possible. The Pegasus thrashes about, shielding itself with its wings. "Yell when you've got him cornered!"

From across the atrium, it turns to you, and leaps forward, taking flight a couple feet off the ground. It's quicker than it looks.

Is it the game telling us we're not well equipped enough to fight this boss? That we need more if we want to do cool things with an altar beyond the boss or something?

That we're already hooked?

You see an opportunity, and take it, diving low and sliding on your knees. You lean back, passing under the Pegasus's front legs, and slash at it from beneath. Rather than glance off, your blade bites into the monster's stone body, which has an unsettling fleshy quality to it. It's a solid hit, and you move even faster to avoid getting trampled by the hind legs, pressing low to the ground.

Its hooves are inches off your face, when you note the red glow rising off your body. Haste.

Tatsumaki is running towards you, coming from the way the Pegasus just left. Vision and Ayla are on either side of the room. You don't see where Nel went.

Your hand snaps up with an unfamiliar speed to grab the Pegasus around the ankle, as its trajectory curves upward, parallel to the Cathedral's front wall. You twist your body around, feeling a slight vertigo as you're yanked off the ground.

The Pegasus looks like it could slam you against the wall. The fist-fighter is a little ways behind you. She's quick, close to catching up.

The tips of your fingers brush against hers, but your fist clamps shut with a handful of air. Then, she jumps to grab your wrist, pulling herself skyward with a high-pitched kiai. The Pegasus is starting to turn in the air, high above the cathedral floor, and Tatsumaki's climbing higher, reaching for you to grab on from above.

Oof! You feel your arm skid against the wall as you ascend, just barely. You yelp; this one almost stings. It's not the same dull feeling, but rather, a very aggressive and intrusive vibration origininating from your shoulder and shooting through your upper body.

> [[ Ascheritte: 18 / 24 HP ]]

"Ascheritte, careful!" Ayla shouts from below. Caster bolts are hitting the walls next to you and you don't know whether you're supposed to be dodging them or not. Tatsumaki yells something--you're not sure if it's English--but you look up to see her helping hand, and grab on, letting her pull you up. You're not glowing, by the time you get hold. Your Haste has run out.

"Ee-mergency!" You hear Nel's voice from the upper level, and take a quick look to see him engaged with several Guardian Constructs. The door at the far end of the walkway is opened outward, as if they appeared inside. Not fair! "We've got adds!"

> Nel defeated Guardian Construct. [[ Party: Vision, Ascheritte, Tatsumaki, Ayla ]]

"Kid!" Vision shouts. "You need help?"

"No, I've gotta keep them busy!" But he's handling himself better than you're used to seeing him, ducking under and diving between spearheads. He leaps toward another, plunging blades deep and following it to the ground. "Keep fighting! I'll shout if it gets bad!"

> Nel defeated Guardian Construct. [[ Party: Vision, Ascheritte, Tatsumaki, Ayla ]]

Tatsumaki is throwing heavy punches. You can hear each hit of her gauntleted fists, and they're taking chips out of the thing's golden armor, though it seems unfazed. You're having trouble getting your balance, holding onto the end of a gilded chain that's hooked into its breastplate as you're looking for somewhere to swing. Then, you see the runes on its head. They're glowing faintly, and as you focus your attention on them, red light bleeds gradually across its body...

You're faster. You get a hold, and hoist yourself up, raising your blade high and driving it downward into the Obsidian Pegasus's head. The red glow dissipates slowly, bleeding off into the surrounding environment as you torque the blade. It whinnies, thrashing in the air. Tatsumaki begins to lose her balance, but is righted by a hit from an obsidian wing; you think you hear a bone crack.

Then, you feel it. A hateful glare, fixated on you, from all directions at once, as you defile the ancient runes.

You think this thing is dying. Vision's caster bolts strike from below; Ayla is looking for a better position. Nel throws a stone pike from the walkway, barely missing.

You withdraw your blade, and hear that ghostly whinny again as it swirls in the air, another red orb--this one visibly unstable--appears in front. Can it still use that? You don't know if the hitbox extends onto its body, or if it'll be able to fly into the explosion from its own attack.

"Tatsumaki!" You point to the walkway where Nel is, and grab onto the golden chain, using it like reins. She nods, sliding past you to take the Pegasus by the neck, still pounding away at it, and help steer it in the right direction.

Its body turns, and it drifts through the air, rolling a bit to face the two of you toward the oncoming blast.

A ghostly wail fills your ears. You're bathed in raw energy, view obscured by red-white light, as if you were in the center of a small star. It doesn't burn you in any way you're used to; rather, you feel it chill your soul, threads of ice crawling front to back across your brain and down your spine. There's wetness on your lips and chin.

> [[ Ascheritte: 8 / 24 HP ]]

You can see Tatsumaki's eyes are rolled back. Blood is pouring from her nose, and her arm looks like it's been knocked out of place.

You keep hold, but miss the walkway.

The Obsidian Pegasus crashes into the wall about a foot below the archway openings, sending the three of you tumbling the rest of the way to the ground. You take the fall, managing to recover before you crash down. You don't see what happens next. There's a plaintive squeak, a cloud of dust, and a shower of rubble.

You see the Obsidian Pegasus struggling to get off of its side, wings heavily damaged. Tatsumaki is stuck under it, and she's twitching, trying to pull herself free. Ayla is running towards you, yelling, explosive in hand. You haven't seen her like this. She's worried, ready to make a move, but she gives only the simplest order. "Asheritte! Go! Now!"

You can't see what's going on upstairs. You hear weapons clashing. Stone against stone, and stone against steel.

"I've got you!" You charge forward, wedging the pike into the ground beneath the Pegasus. It's almost too heavy to lift. A wing flails by, and you duck away.

> Nel defeated Guardian Construct. [[ Party: Vision, Ascheritte, Tatsumaki, Ayla ]]

You hear your pike crack, and try to lift just enough to give her some room.

It bends at the balance point, about to give way.

Then, breaks, just as the small girl scrambles free from beneath the Pegasus. The damage is visible. She doesn't look like she should be moving as quickly as she is.

Ayla's ready to throw her bomb, but the Pegasus is recovering.

Try and pin a wing to the ground with the spear to keep it in place, but prioritize getting clear. We don't need to devote too much attention to it. All we need to do is make sure it doesn't get airborne immediately upon righting itself and the explosion should handle the rest.

It doesn't need to stay airborne long, only to get out of the blast radius.

The big thing is that it's going to be easier to target a wing while on the run (on account of being large and away from the main body) than it will be to target any other individual part.
>>
>>37808167
Also there could be some kind of profession system we don't know of that's needed to use them.

Nel is really doing some work during this fight.
>>
>>37808243
Yeah, it was also implied he was fighting significantly better than he had been until now. Hidden skill? Secretly a much higher level but was pretending to be lower? Just activated some kinda rage ability? Just his willpower shining through now we're in a tough fight?

"Out of the way, now!" Ayla shouts. "I'm throwing it!"

"Just wait! Vision, shoot the legs!" You yell. Caster fire sails past you, and you raise your second pike overhead, slamming it downward into the creature's wing. You hold it there. Just wait. "Nel, down below!"

You force the Pegasus down. Just a little bit more.

"Hang on, guys! Ascheritte!" You hear Nel's voice from above, and see him on the archway. His face is bruised like he's been punched a few times, and you think there's a piece of some weapon stuck in his shoulder. "I'm fucking jumping, okay!"

You're not sure what you wanted from him, but he's falling before you can advise him otherwise, a stone pike pointed downward. It misses the mark, instead hitting the creature's body near the base of its other wing, and he stumbles backwards, falling to his knees and scrambling away from kicking hooves.

"Ayla! Now!"

"Already going!" She yells, and hurls the explosive. The metal sphere bounces off the boss's body, and gives off a purple spark in the air adjacent, just as it reaches its feet.

Then, there's a nicely Pegasus-sized explosion, a coil of violet light that whirls outwards before giving way to a brilliant, burning blast; there's a low, flatulent sound, and a shockwave that almost knocks you off your feet at this distance.

The smoke clears, and the creature's body is broken. Wings are cracked and torn, and one leg is bent backwards, hanging by just a bit of mottled stone. You draw your scimitar, preparing to move closer. Then, it collapses, the light in the defiled runes growing faint.

Interesting that the explosive didn't give an individual kill credit to the thrower. I'd assume this means it doesn't count as having been an attack by the thrower, which means I'd also assume it would have been entirely capable of friendly-fire.

> Other
Attend to Tatsumaki first and make sure she isn't going to bleed out if there are bleeding mechanics. Then handle looting/etc.

Give Nel a pat on the back for managing to hold off all the adds solo. Good job, kid.

You breathe a sigh of relief. "Damn, that was a close call. Almost ended up Nameless."

"You're telling me." Ayla says. "Why'd you even climb on that thing?"

"Worked, didn't it? Now, Tatsumaki's gonna need some bandages, if anyone has spare." You suggest.
> [[ There are herbs and poultices in your backpack. You're not poisoned, but you can still use them to recover a bit of HP. ]]

"I've got some extra. You look hurt as well." Ayla says. She hands you a bundle, and you don't deny the offer, using them to restore your HP.

> [[ Ascheritte: 14 / 24 HP ]]

You dab a wad at your nose to staunch the bleeding there as well, though it doesn't do much other than for your psyche. Ayla helps tend to Tatsumaki's wounds, and once she's back on her feet, the five of you begin the affair of looting.

"Alright," Nel says. "That was damn awesome."

"Mhm." Vision chuckles. Seems uncharacteristic, for a moment. "I gotta hand it to you guys. We do good work."

"Alright, shall we take a look?" Nel asks.

"Let's see, we've got..." Ayla crowds the corpse, and immediately blushes, looking a bit giddy all of a sudden. "Oh, Gods... I didn't think I'd find..."

"Gems." You try to keep your head straight, though the allure is strong, present even in the faint luminescence they give off. You plant a hand on Ayla's shoulder, trying to steady her. "What's the rest of this stuff?"

Sanctum Keystone

"R-right." Ayla says, shaking her head. "The shards are crafting materials for weapons and armor. NPCs and players can make stuff with it. That chain doesn't look useful, but I bet the bracelet is magic."

"And the gilded mail and scraps are boss loot." Nel nods. "You could fix the mail up and wear it as is, or have it reforged into something you like more."

"How are we divvying it up?"

>>
We should grab the keystone and be the one to use it in case that has any effect beyond opening something up.

If they question it just say that we were the one with the consultation about this place, only seems fair etc
>>
>>37808862
>"How are we divvying it up?"
Give Vision the option to lay claim to a gem, at the very least, since he's been a little bit sour about it the past few times. Tatsu probably gets the other, and then we can all commiserate over how having a gem gives you the fucking nervous sweats.

We're obviously going to be interested in the Keystone if peoples' previous suggestions were any indication, but I'm not sure how to value it at first glance.

Crafters should have first claim on mats if they're interested, otherwise divide them up treating them as though they were currency. Weight Gems heaviest against the currency split, followed by armor/equip drops. Keystone is probably a quest item, but if it's a rare Key Item drop or something, weight it slightly higher than equipment but below Gems.

Whoever gets the Gilded Mail probably get the Armor Scraps too in order to facilitate repairs.
>>
>>37808889

Basically we use it to unlock something in this room. I reckon we should do it ourselves in case it doesn't just open the way to treasure, but imbues the user in some manner
>>
>>37809013
If it's just a quest progression thing toward finishing the dungeon, sure. But if it's relevant for the Consultation we received and being the person who's hanging on to it is important with respect to interaction with the mysterious divine power with the weird name, that's a kind of big thing and should be handled accordingly.
>>
>>37809046
Re-reading that too, I think we should go check that keystone mosaic out first but there's clearly a lower level where the pegasus came from that we need to go take a look at too.
>>
>>37809046
I assume it will let us get to Kjorikos, whatever that ends up being.
>>37734812
>>
>>37808979
The mail and armor shards would probably go to us, since we're the fighter and all. Tatsumaki is a monk, so that wouldn't fit her, and everyone else is too light to use it.

"I believe I'm overdue for a Gem." Vision says.

"As is Tatsumaki," You add. The two of them seem like a weight has been lifted off of them. "Help yourselves."

"Mm..." Ayla seems puzzled.

"Something wrong?" Nel asks.

"No, no. It's interesting. The Guardians found the first Gems, and we've got four in our possession from just this run." Ayla says. "And we know of plenty more underground branches that are at least as large as this one, though they probably don't all have ancient ruins in 'em."

"So?"

"There'll be more Artifacts soon, assuming others are having any success." She says. "And who knows how many the Guardians have by now?"

"Some of them could be stacked." Nel nods.

"I'm sure Liza is." Ayla folds her arms. "That being said, I think I'd like this bracelet. All opposed?"

"You'll figure out what it does faster than I would, I bet." You nod, grabbing the various bits of broken armor and the large Onyx shard.

"None." Nel says. "If this chain isn't that useful, I guess I'll have it. Might be worth something."

"I'd first melt it down." Vision shrugs. "Pass me some of those shards, and I'll split the credits."

"Ashe, I'll buy those scraps from you for my share of the credits!" Nel says. "I gotta look fancy too."

"I think I might need them to repair the armor." You say. "I'll think about it if that's not the case."

"Alright." Nel responds. "So, that just leaves... this rock."

"Uhm." You heft the keystone and size it up--an intricate pattern that matches the one on the wall under the arch--before setting it back down. "I think it opens that wall."

Right. 'Powerful entity' is far too ambiguous for us to check it out now whilst we're low on health and healing items so I say loot the place and come back later (taking a peek down the stairs where the pegasus came from first).

We have the keystone so it's not like anyone can beat us to the punch with this, unless the boss respawns I guess.

If the boss DOES respawn we might consider farming him for CGs now that we have a vague idea how to handle it.

I agree.
I saw we look into either buying a better weapon.
Or if we can upgrade it with the onxy shards some how, We do that then add a gem to our sword.
Since everyone in the party got a gem. Everyone should use it as they see fit.
>>
>>37809157
> Tell the party the rest of your consultation.
"Any of you guys ever heard someone mention the name Kjorikos?"

It'd be nice to know if someone has more information, since "powerful entity" is a little vague. It could be benevolent or a Raid Boss that'd make the Pegasus a midboss in retrospect.

Opening the wall can wait a bit until we've got ourselves sorted seeing as we've got the key. Once the door's open, we don't know what to expect, and theoretically anyone else can walk right in if we find ourselves needing to regroup since we don't know whether or not it can be re-locked.
>>
>>37809259
>We do that then add a gem to our sword.
I don't see the point of spending a CG on the scimitar, especially since we're not sure if we want to even stick with that as a main weapon.

Also

>see if we can't grab a replacement spear from among the dispatched Guardians upstairs
I can't imagine the one we used earlier survived the blast. The ones we did have came in handy, and even if they're going to be somewhat fragile, it'd be nice to have access to one again.

Also
>pick up broken spear
See if it appears in inventory as (damaged) or (broken) implying it is intended to be able to be repaired, or if the game treats them as limited-durability use-until-they-break items.
>>
By the way, I wouldn't be surprised if we've now shown ourselves worthy of admittance to the CG. Hell, our whole party probably has, we should see if any of them are interested in joining as well.

You satisfy your curiosity while the party finishes stashing their loot.

Attempting to crush a Celestial Gem gives you the option to heal yourself or a nearby player completely, and remove all negative status effects from them.

It takes some willpower just to try. You don't think you could ever bring yourself to do it.

I'd agree but then we'd have to manage it and I fear that could get tiresome. Like, if we wanted it to be a major guild then we'd have to recruit more than a handful of people and keep them busy and content and so on.

I reckon it would be better to just join one of the existing big guilds and work our way to the top of it by being good at adventuring, leave the actual leader to deal with managing the people and everything else.

Sounds like it would be harder to join than others.
I am sure we could have Ayla vouch for us. If anything.
>>
>>37809701
But... being an elitist prick is the best thing about multiplayer games...

But nah, they presumably have stringent entry requirements to make sure that the people they recruit are worth it. That way they can offer greater support to their guild members without wasting it on players that aren't as driven.

>>37809688
I'd imagine the guild benefits are primarily based on the fact you've theoretically got staunch allies to call upon and so forth. There's also guild buildings I think? In the CG case though we'd be rubbing shoulders with the more experienced players who presumably have a better idea of game mechanics (eg, upgrading, etc) and we'd have strong and determined allies to party up with too.

Plus whenever there's a major boss or event or something we'd be tackling it en masse rather than trying to scrounge up a handful of guildless players good enough to face it by ourselves.

>>37809780
Between our first battle taking down three nameless, our involvement with discovery of sacrificing the broken UIs at altars, the fact we've already killed a boss and gathered CGs as a party and the fact that Ayla can vouch for us I think we're pretty much set for entry.

I reckon we should hold off until we finish clearing this area first though, make sure any epic loot we find behind that keystone is ours and not wanted to be shared amongst a guild we just joined.
>>
>>37809701

>WKs pay attention to lore
Yeah, and I imagine the CG do to a decent extent too. They'd certainly be paying close attention to any lore that has mechanical impact. Either way, even if they don't roleplay as much as you want to it's not like we couldn't just roleplay more ourselves.

>>37809855

"Anyone ever heard someone mention the name Kjorikos?" You ask.

"Yeah." Ayla responds. "Dorian got a consultation, once, asking about powerful beings in the ruins beneath Averron. It was one of the names he dropped, but he didn't get a whole lot of. He spends like, almost all of his credits on those things. I'm trying to convince him to save up for a prophecy."

"Ugh..." Nel groans. "You guys and your useful consultations."

"Why do you ask, Ascheritte?" Ayla folds her arms.

"That was the other part of my consultation. I just wanted to see if you knew. Whoever he is, he's through that door. I'm gonna hang onto this key, alright?" You say.

"If the boss respawns, anyone coming through will be able to get another." Vision nods. "But it'll save us the trouble if we decide to try and come back through another time."

"Hell," Ayla says, "I've no doubt that you could just wish up an extra key with Celestial Gems."

The five of you make your way to the other room. The door isn't locked, and is in fact parted slightly.

> [[ Ancient Cathedral - Velika's Tomb // PVP Disabled ]]

It's a strange, lavish looking place, halfway between a tomb and an opulent bedroom, were such a thing possible. The walls are, or were, decorated; there's spaces in the dust that likely once housed ornaments. There's a large tapestry on one wall, and a few silken veils arching across the ceiling trim. There's an enormous sepulcher that's half open--empty, save for a mummified and bandaged body that looks more like part of the scenery than something you'd be able to interact with.

There's a dusty, framed portrait inside, covered in cobwebs. It depicts a young woman, with long, braided hair. She's lovely, but something about the painting unsettles you.

At the foot of the sepulcher, a small chest, also open, and empty.

You almost miss the Altar, as you mistake it for some decoration or vanity. Carved out of a single onyx slab, the young girl raises a bowl toward you, bidding for an offering, sightless eyes forever fixed upon the sky.

> [[ Offer Celestial Gems ]]
* Create Celestial Artifact
* Enhance Celestial Artifact
* Empower Mundane Item

"This is where they made their offerings." You take another cautious look around. Something seems a little off.

"And apparently, buried someone." Nel folds his arms. "God, I hope that body doesn't get up. I will actually freak."

"Ehehehe." Ayla's ignoring the rest of you, giggling like a maniac at the sight of the Altar. "Someone beat us here, but... wow, I'm not sure how to react."

"Looks like we can upgrade items here, too." Nel says. "I'm gonna hold off, though. There's a certain allure to the idea of my own special artifact."

"Mhm," Vision says. "Same here. Let's hope we last that long, eh?"

Tatsumaki, of course, smiles and nods.

"Ah, wheels are turning." Nel says, hopping up and down a bit. "That girl outside, with a familiar. They're the ones who looted this place, and the room upstairs. I bet it's an Artifact too."

"Something to let you capture a monster?" Vision folds his arms.

"We could ask them." Nel says.

I'd be great to have a companion. Even a "low" level one.
Who is to say when you capture one it doesn't get reset to it's weakest form? From there we upgrade our companion. with every other gem. Or something.

Also guys, for our exp.
I say offensive, either concussive or mastery.
Concussive would be great gives us a stronger attack than our regular ones. And leads to stronger attacks. Also we would now have something to use our PP on.

Interesting. I'm guessing this is a Blueprint? Let's grab this and see if we can't get Kjorikos to get this baby in working shape when we get around to speaking with him.

Or I guess, if it is the object itself, if it is already set to a frequency on which we can communicate with Kjorikos so we can get his measure before heading through the Keystone door.

Yeah, weapon mastery seems to basically just be a flat damage buff. Might make us more proficient at using them too instead simply increasing damage but who knows.

You look at the memento again, still leaving it in the sepulcher. You assume it's a portrait of Velika, based on the assumption that this is a Velika mummy and you're in Velika's tomb. You swear the photograph has changed a bit, but it might just be because it's creeping you out a bit.

You return to the stash. It's actually just a missing brick in the wall. You're not sure how the art thieves that whirlwinded through here before you missed this.

>>37810279
>>37810341

"Ascheritte, what are you doing?" Ayla asks.

"Nothing." Your reply is muffled, as your head is stuffed behind a tapestry. "Come take a look at this."

You show her the item; it looks like a small, eldritch piece of technology, not particularly like anything you've seen in-game thus far, and her eyes widen as she takes a moment to think about it. "Oh, Gods, we're in business."

"What?" Vision asks.

"It's a component for a communication device." Ayla says. "With the right build, we could get the message boards global, or communicate with the other cities, assuming they had one of these too."

The major take-away is that there's still only one known Celestial Artifact despite the fact that an area boss dropped two gems and a bunch of other seemingly random spawns dropped one. If you could make an artifact with as little as one gem there would be more of them lying around just by virtue of players fucking around.

"Alright..."

You can see drains and holes in the walls where water pours in from outside. Weapons ready, you wade into ankle deep water by torch-light. The underground area seems to lead you in circles, to small openings and tunnels underneath the atrium. You don't find much of anything, and usher Nel, out of curiosity, in the direction of the parted wall.

There's occasionally a vibration as you round a corner. It feels like the walls are staring at you.

Then, you pass under a thick glass ceiling, where you can see far up above. A spiral staircase leads up through a tower with many floors and many doors, gold trim and opulent chandeliers. is that stone helmet of ours broken? can we equip it?

We really shouldn't enter the sanctumtil we got healing stuff and full hp. The vague implication is that then entity through the keystone door has a bigass sword that it's dragging.

Could be a different boss to Kjorikos, could also not be.

Oh right, we're in the BASEMENT right now, so this is probably looking up into the sanctum.

>>37811401
Scratch this, then. I feel like a moron.

> Leave.
Regroup, restock, research. See if there's anywhere we can dig up a little more information about what we're getting ourselves into, or who the lady in the sepulcher was and/or whether the memento plan from earlier is at all helpful/practical.

Maybe see what all the hassle outside was about in the meantime.

Through the glass, you can see what you think is the other side of the parted atrium wall. This must be what the Sanctum Keystone opens; in hindsight, it seems a little bit obvious.

Nel is already groping the walls for Celestial Gems, a bit awkwardly.

"That's what's on the other side of the wall, then?" Vision says. "Fun. I'm not excited to see what's making that noise."

"It's gonna be troublesome, for certain." Ayla says. Tatsumaki glances up at her, and receives an idle pat on the head for her troubles. "I think we can come back, though. We've got the key, and people might want to visit town, or break for a bit."

"Right, then." Nel says. "Let's get out of here. Stay close, the journey up could be dangerous. Good to go, Ashe?"

"Yeah, I'm ready." You respond.

Then, your muscles seize, and you shake back and forth wildly and involuntarily. Nel and the rest of your party gradually grow more distant, though they're moving closer to try to reach you. It's becoming a lot warmer, a lot less damp. You feel your soreness fading, as well as a fleeting temptation to make sure your Celestial Gem is intact.

Then, there's a buzzing in your ears, the same as when you first launched Broken Sky Online.

> [[ Calibrating, please wait... ]]

It grows louder, and softer, fluctuating rapidly through different pitches and volumes, then stops abruptly.

> [[ Connection interrupted. ]]

Archiving. Might not be able to run until Friday, as I've a test to study for. Stay tuned.
