So, I saw someone do a Blazblue quest the other day.

I was not satisfied with the product provided.

Instead, have this.

It is... dark.

You... hurt. You really, really hurt. You're having trouble with a lot of trouble with your head right now, but you don't think you can really remember ever feeling worse than you do now.

You're pretty sure you're bleeding too.

Something tells you that it's not serious, which is weird because you thought when people bled it was generally a bad thing. Wasn't it?

Your head hurts now.

Twinges of sensation return to your hand.

Just moving your fingers sends tremors of soreness up your entire arm, but it lets you know something. Those fingers are clenched around something.

It's... a book.

A big, meaty looking book. The kind that looks less like the kind you read and more like the kind that sits behind a display case because it's actually some kind of art-piece.

Rather than the traditional laminated paper or cardboardish material you expect from a hardcover, some kind of leather with a bluish sheen binds the cover. A metal signet looking thing with lots of curves twinkles at you, dimly glowing.

You don't want to lose this.

You have no idea where that thought came from, but it's a very big one. You must hang onto this. You can't lose it. The very idea of someone taking it away from you sends shivers down your spine.

Lots of shivers actually.

... When did it get so cold?

Wait a second... Your empty hand touches the ground.

Your crush a palm full of frozen water molecules in a loosely crystallized formation. This is highly indicative of an environment with a very low temperature. Your exposed extremities are vulnerable to such environs in their current state.

Oh.

Your brain takes a second to translate what that means into simpler terms.

It's cold outside and snowing. You don't have shoes or gloves or a hat or anything really to help with that.

That's bad.

I thought that was kind of the average thing to do with rolls?

Best of 3, crits over ride.

Anyway, while the involvement of KMERCURY in the development of the Murakumo is something we don't know even happened, KMERCURY2 at the very least refurbished Lambda.

Speaking of which, the plot is very much in flux right now. While you probably aren't one of the 13 'regular' Murakumo units, to say you have nothing at all to do with them is rather wrong.

Also, 75 is good. Any preferences?

Your first instinct is to solve the most immediate problem.

You are cold, ergo put on some decent clothes. There's an Ars for that.

Probably.

You pop the seals holding the Armagus shut, and allow the initial mental handshakes to pull strings of numbers and letters from your mind. Subtle commands and passwords flow instinctively, turning fluttering pages to pull bits and pieces of formulae before jumping to new regions to extract new data from there.

Something so simple as to reformat some stored matter into protective garments hardly takes more than a moment of effort.

A heavy cloak lined with Ars to contain heat and repel wind overlays your new outfit. Heavy boots protect your previously bare feet, waterproofed but also meant to increase the stability of your footing. Adjusting the thin medical robe you were wearing before into something more appropriate for the local climate is accomplished instantly. A sensible jacket and some dark pants will generally blend anywhere.

Speaking of which, now that your current status is no longer approaching hypothermic, some other sensations have started coming back. Little things, like your legs.

They hurt too.

This isn't necesarily news, but the fact that you can move them is.

Direct translocation Ars, for all of it's merits, requires coordinates. So, you can't exactly teleport yet. But with your feet in working order, you can work out where you want to go on this mountainside crate you seem to be in.

Mostly, your options boil down to whether you want to go up or down the mountain.

Up means civilization.

Down means Seithr.

While you know that Seithr in large quantities is supposed to be toxic to humans, you don't find yourself worried about it. What exactly that means is something you don't quite grasp, but you don't really see the point in heading into a sea of miasma filled with mutated beasts and dangerous ruins of the old world.

So, you start trudging upward.

And up some more.

Even when you end up tripping over some weird stones, you force yourself to keep going.

...

How tall is this mountain anyways?

...

You're done.

That's it. No more.

You've been walking up this mountain for hours. Your enchantments have been keeping you safe, but it doesn't do anything for the fact that when you started you were already hurt, and that you don't really have much actual muscle. You haven't seen hide nor hair of anyone yet, and now...

You are confronted with a sheer cliff face.

What the hell are you supposed to do about this!?

Your legs pulse like they're filled with molten lead as you take a seat and lean against the wall. You'll just... rest for awhile. Maybe when you wake up, you'll have enough energy to come up with a solution to this problem...

"Mya? Who'd fall asleep in a place like this?"

...

"Tao can't just leave someone alone here. The Black Squigly could be still around!"

...

"Huh. Book Guy is book Lady..."

...

"Book Lady is... really heavy... But also bouncy? Even though she smells like both of the tiny ladies... And dresses like a boring person..."

...

When you come to, you find yourself feeling a little upset over something, but you can't quite remember what.

You're in a bed that feels a little tinier then you'd call comfortable, but you're covered in some warm blankets at least. The clothes you conjured are missing, but your book is right next to you. Almost instantly, you pick it right back up and hold it to your chest, reassuring yourself that it's still there. That everything about it is still intact, despite someone else getting their filthy mitts all over it.

... It occurs to you that maybe this is an unhealthy attitude to take towards an inanimate object.

A quiet rustling in a corner of the room draws your attention.

Two bright red eyes stare at you from the darkness, glinting ferally...

"Booby Book Lady is Awake!" She mews as she leaps from the shadowy corner, knocking the air out of your chest. Ruby eyes glint beneath her hood as the tiny cat... thing giggles. Then the second one hits you from the other corner, and they just don't stop.

Within seconds, you're covered in little kitten girl things.

"Tell me a story, mya!"

"Where'd you come from Booby Book Lady?"

"I heard you could blow up mountains! Can you blow up mountains?"

"Of course she can't. That'd make her stronger then Tao! Nobody's stronger then Tao!"

I'm just going to copy an explanation I gave to someone else...

>For those of you not in the know, Blazblue is a fighting game franchise that is slightly more confusing than the Nasuverse. There's temporal loops, time traveling, catgirls, squirrel girls, ninjas, vampires, magic, SCIENCE, magitech, ghosts, cyborgs, parallel dimensions, magical girls, werewolves, and eldritch abominations.

>On top of all this, there's the key fact that, except for a very small fraction of the cast, nobody knows what the fuck is going on. Sure, there's an explanation for what happened to bring the world to it's current place in time, including stuff on Ars Magus and what the Black Beast truly was.

>But for everyone one of these, there's something new that pops up that no one bothers to explain. Not to mention some of the insane feats some of these people have. Hakumen slashed time, to watch an alternate possibility of himself lose the fight he just won. Hazama uses magic to observe every single outcome of a possible situation. ALL of them. Bang survives a fall directly onto his face from at least thirty feet in the air.

>Okay, maybe that last one isn't as impressive, but still.

There's also a lot of extended material, including a couple of LNs, a VN, a manga, and an anime that exists in the same way one does for Tsukihime. A lot of which I either am not completely familiar with, or did not really get into.
>>
>>37814149
If you don't mind anime and LOL PARALLEL WORLDS then the story is quite good, I guess? I definetly enjoyed reading through the games story modes, but I generally have a shit taste so theres that.

Also, the game has an awesome soundtrack

Oh god.

They're adorable.

They act just little squabbling kittens, batting at each and shoving gently, nyan-ing at each other all the while. It's...

"So cute!" You say aloud, drawing the attention of all the tiny sweat-shirt wearing balls on the bed. This being the first thing you actually said, you note that your voice is perhaps a little deeper then you thought it would be. Not that you really knew what you were supposed to sound like, but at least it's a mature sound.

Again, no idea why, but you like the idea of appearing older and more mature.

Still, that is that and this is this.

And as the kittens insist that they aren't 'cute' but 'tough' and 'dangerous' and various other macho things, you can't help but think the way their high-pitched voices squeal out their denials is cute enough to give you cavities!

Still, it seems your time with the kittens is at an end.

A knock on the door draws the attention of a few, while the rest continue to argue about how they are the toughest and fiercest Kaka clan. When the door opens to admit a raggedy sweatshirt with a skull-mask, they all quiet down a little to sullenly make their way to the door.

"My apologies. The kittens can be a little rambunctious, but they're good children." An old voice warbles beneath the mask.

"Oh it wasn't a problem at all!" You respond instantaneously, still glowing at having seen the kittens play. The older woman's face can't be seen behind her mask, but you'll bet she has her own smile now, judging by the tilt of her head. The she straightens. Still casual, but clearly more serious.

"I am the Elder of the Kaka Clan. A day or so ago, you were brought here with some rather grievous wounds." She gestures at the bandages on your arms. "While we do not have heaing Ars, we still treated you as best we could. Now, if you don't mind... We'd like some answers."

Your name.

It's something so simple, so fundamental, it'd be impossible to forget.

...Right?

So... Why can't you remember?

Passcodes, Armagus tactics, Seithr physics, they all come as easily as breathing. So... What's your name?

"Al... Azif?" The book in your arms grows warm at the mention, and the Kaka Elder nods, accepting this answer that feels more like a question.

Al-Azif... It doesn't feel right. But your Armagus responds to it. For now, it'll do.

As for the mountain... Well, you woke up and decided to head up. That's a straightforward enough answer that doesn't really help anything either. What were you doing there? Why were you injured so badly?

"I wouldn't worry about it if you can't remember." The Elder shrugs beneath her baggy coat. "If you came from as far down as you say you did, you probably have some form of Seithr poisoning. Just be grateful that you're sane and have the same number of limbs as when you were born." You appreciate the kindness, but maybe not so much the unsettling sentiment that she's surprised that you've not been reduced to a raving madwoman or some kind of black mutant tentacle beast.

"You don't really look like a person who knows what they're going to do next, either." Are you that easy to read? "Al-Azif, when you get to my age, everyone's easy to read."

Oh. Well, that makes sense, you suppose.

"Now then, I can ask Tao to guide you up to the surface. From there, you should be able to find some work. The NOL is always eager to recruit clever youngsters with high affinities like yourself, and there's certainly plenty of other opportunities for a woman with your skills. Or you can stay here in the village for awhile. I'm afraid we can't quite support someone who doesn't work though, so you'll be... assisting Tao with he duties. The choice is yours."

The Kaka Clan are genetically engineered super-soldiers. Tao might be tiny at this point, and complained about you being heavy, but dragging you back to the village is still something I can see her capable of doing.

That or she got Torakaka to help.

This is probably the biggest factor to consider when planning. While going off to the 'surface' would probably be the most pro-active thing you could do to get your life in order and maybe get some answers, the fact of the matter is that you're nowhere near a hundred percent right now.

And how you can be so disgusted with your weakness without actually knowing how strong you are, is honestly a mystery for another time. Although, you're getting pretty sick of those already.

Still, how hard can it be to assist this 'Tao' with whatever it is they're doing? At the very least, it'll be something to do until your wounds heal up.

"And you'll leave us after that, then?"

You shrug. The kittens are cute, but you can't really stay here forever, can you?

The Elder gives you the rest of the day to rest a bit more, before leaving.

Instantly half a dozen of the tiny Kaka kittens surge back in, chasing each other over the furniture and bouncing off the walls.

They're so tiny and adorable and...

And one of them just batted a chair through a window. It's then that you learn something. Or should that be remember?

Either way, the Kaka clan are ridiculously strong.

Don't think this can be compared to the original Boobie Lady. And that means Celica doesn't qualify as well.

Not counting Litchi, Mai, Bullet and Makoto are the only characters from the top of my head that can be called Boobie Lady and I'm certain that we're neither Bullet nor Makoto but there's probably a lot more if you consider XBlaze and Remix Heart.

But since Tao is a kitten here, her standarts for Boobie Ladies may differ as well.

She's got a larger bust than in that concept art but yeah. Who knows.

Hmm.... Think I'm gonna call it quits here. I've got other things I want to do today, and getting involved in another event seems like it could take too long.

For those of you who follow that too, Coach Quest will be back around 10pm west-coast time on thursday.

And since I'm going to be around for awhile, I'm open for some Q&A.

Also, suggestions for an actual title for this would be cool...

Honestly, the character design shifted rapidly. The opening segment was largely inspired by Ar no Surge's opener, but then I didn't want a complete blank slate.

Character design was meant to be more interactive, but I wanted to actually advance the plot at the same time. Hence most character design being centered around whether to avoid people or not, weapon-type informing personality, and whether or not you like Cute things.

Also, I'm going to apologize for pulling you guy's agency back a bit and deciding the MC's physical characteristics without your input.

As for actual 'tips', your character is surprisingly flexible. You can do a lot of things, but keep in mind that you can't do many of them fast. If it comes down to it, the amount of firepower you can bring to bear is limited only by your Seithr supply. But it takes time for you to draw it out and make use of it.

Anyway, currently planning to run next wednesday, 10pm, same timezone as above.
>>
>>37815657

given a majority of the plot hasnt happened. Jin and Ragna are still young. Bang still has his village. The Clovers arnt puppets. Etc. Who are we likely to meet in the quest?

>>37815768

>I'll simply say they're likely in the top three, and leave it at that.

There's also the possibility of an unchained Azrael to show up. Then there's always the fact that the NOL gives an unlimited amount of opportunity to have OC DONUT STEEL as long as they line up with the families of the Duodecium. >>
>>37815885
Honestly, I don't know yet. Jubei won the vote, so he's going to be showing up next thread, possibly with a half-vampire apprentice in tow.

Apart from that, it's up to you guys to decide where you want to go. What with how the time for a lot of events are fudged slightly and how we don't have birthdays or anything like that for most of the cast, I get to enjoy a lot of narrative freedom. The biggest thing is that Jin graduates in time to end the Ikaruga Civil War in 2197.

Combat will be decided when combat happens. But again, keep in mind that you guys are basically a wizard. The longer you have to set up, the more powerful you get. Contrarily, you're very vulnerable to ambushes.

Basically, when combat becomes relevant I'll work out a DC and ask for a d20.

I'd think it best to keep it vague at this point and allow the narrative to draw it out. Because I haven't figured it all out yet. Although, if an enterprising artist were to step forward, I'm sure we could finish the design pretty quick.[/quick]

Anyway, mostly what's been decided is that you guys have a heavy cloak you like to wear. Although, that was conjured to deal with the weather, and should you desire a change, it's only the use of an Ars away.

Although, given a choice, you're going to gravitate towards functional clothing.
