Welcome to Banished Quest!
You take the role of a young mage labeled a criminal by his people and cast out into the wider world. In the last thread you learned a number of interesting metamagics and discovered something about yourself.

You stand at the window for a long while. You're afforded a wonderful view of the sea, and the city besides. You can see the ornamented spire of Pani's Temple, the figures carved across its surface barely distinguishable this far away. Further off you spot the massive dome of the Grand Library. The fishermen are just sailing out with the noon tide, a sea of small white sails and narrow mast slipping off into the vast expanse of the sea.

Eventually you come to decide that you feel more in control of yourself. For the past few days you've had a low, throbbing headache constantly pounding away at your skull. It wasn't usually too bad, but it was annoying. No longer are you plagued by headache. Your mind is clear and thoughts unobstructed by pain. It's immensely refreshing.

Stepping away from the window you take a moment to straighten ouy your robes before making for the door. Zahak is still sleeping, and considering his age you've no desire to wake him. A growing boy needs his rest, as your father used to say. You slip out the door and shut it quietly behind you, finding the upstairs balcony swarmed with men and women coming and going.

There seems to be a constant flow of people passing through the greenhouse doors, carrying with them all manner of strange devices. You see training dummies, exotic plants, sandbags, a barrel of fertilizer, oddly shaped glass contraptions, an uncountable number of hammers, pokers, bellows, and other such forge equipment. Seems they're putting the finishing touches on the renovations.

Likewise the baths seem to be getting a fair amount of attention, judging by the amount of shouting and incessant hammering you can hear from down the stairs. You slip as unobtrusively as you can manage through the crowd of workers to the other end of the hall, opening the door to the guest bedrooms and pushing open the nearest door to check on progress. What you find surprises you. The bedrooms, now that they've been restored and the new furniture put in, can be described as nothing less than palatial. The elegant moulding which now decorates the ceiling can only be the work of an experienced Earth vatis. It seems to follow the common theme of a ball or banquet, figures twisting together and melding in an almost orgiastic manner.

Shutting the door you return to the second story balcony and begin to press yourself through the crowd. Fortunately once you reach the stairs it becomes a bit easier to move about. It seems that your slaves are quite occupied with dusting and generally tidying up the lower floor. The scaffolding has largely been removed, as you learned last night. You're quite pleased with the way everything has come together. Your guest ought to be thoroughly impressed.

You arrive in the foyer, and make a brief detour into the kitchens. You find Prema there conducting a half dozen elven women about the room like a skilled maestro conducting an orchestra. They seem to be going through the preliminary preparations for tomorrow's get together. Of course, it's not like you're hosting a feast. You won't need to nor will you be expected to feed all of your guest. However, as the host you are expected to provide a decent variety of appetizers and snacks for the guest to enjoy, while the guest themselves will usually provide the main courses.

You stop a young woman as she's on her way to the pantry. She's short, especially for an elf. No more than five and a half feet at most. You'd almost mistake her for a child were it not for the subtle signs of aging encroaching upon an otherwise youthful appearance. Wrinkles crinkling the corners of the eyes and the furrows of the brow, the first few wisp of grey beginning to creep into her hair. You'd guess she's around one hundred or so, though you can't profess any great knowledge of the way elves age.

She bows, but says nothing. You wonder if she speaks Samjan. “Get me a plate of olives and feta cheese. Douse it all in a bit of olive oil and throw in some pepper as well.”

She seems confused, so you try repeating what you've said in Rhynian. “Olives and feta cheese. Pour some olive oil over both and sprinkle in some pepper.”

That time she gets it, responding in Rhynian. “Yes, Master Mikhael.” She rushes off, and you turn your attention to Prema. She still hasn't noticed you, seemingly engrossed in teaching a young woman, another elf, how to cook sifha. It's not really all that complex, it's essentially an open faced lamb meat pie with cheese and vegetables.

>Get her attention and have her fetch Stelios, you'll need him to drive you about.
>Eh, her skills are probably better employed here. You'll drive yourself.

41 before, but for some reason soma added +1 for each meta instead of +2.
>>
>>37823507
>>37823480
Yeah it should be 45
>>
>>37823507
Oh yeah it was 41 I'm probably confusing them because they're both odd numbers in the early 40s. Should have 45 now though.
>>
>>37823480
Reading last thread, we had 41 before doing the metas, and got 2 vys for each for some reason, so we should be at 45, I think.
>>
>>37823337
Is this right?
>>37823507
>>
>>37823507
Nah, I added +2 for the first meditation and forgot to update it for the second. Fixed it.

Also, I updated your Comapnion's sheets taking into account reading they've been doing, meditations they've had, et cetera. Chrys hasn't bumped to Master in Earth but she's half way.

Additional note, most of your companions (though Chrys isn't numbered among them) will begin to accrue negatives to meditation rolls starting when they attain their first mastery of an element. These will be multiplied exponentially as they gain experience in other elements until their advancement is essentially capped. This is to represent the different levels of magical potential among your party. Some of your companions have already accrued these negatives for merely reaching Expert rank.
>>
imagine how easy metas will be now if we do reality meditation+plus our trait.
that is easily a +16 on our rolls for metas, and a plus +8 on any rolls including vys(vatis is +2)
>>
>>37823577

>>
>>37823799
Probably everybody will be able to learn the basic levels of each element (Novice, Apprentice) because the DC for those is very low and even with a penalty they will make it. I guess they might be able to reach Vatis level if the meditation is done in a place with high bonuses (like the temple for water) and/or with a group mediation bonus. They might need multiple tries even with those bonuses. Like e.g. with a Base DC of 25, -15 to the roll for being capped, +15 from all the special bonuses.
It's sad that not everybody will become a super multiple GM, but I'm okay with the system because it's "realistic". Not everybody can grow up to be an astronaut.

From a metagaming perspective it might be a good idea to get everybody to Vatis level in every element before continueing above Vatis. That way the penalty won't hit them before they have good basics in everything. If they progress too far too early in two elements they might not even make Vatis in the others.
It even won't be metagaming if they decide to teach each other. Like how Chryssa taught Earth to everybody, Mortia can teach Nature, Darzi Water and Prof Fire, all that in turn. Then Mik just has to throw in a Metal session now and then.

You decide to leave her be, and instead simply wait until the slave returns with your lunch. Really it's just a light snack but it will do to break your fast. While you wait, you decide to reach out to your companions and see about handing out the various goodies you've purchased for them recently or just things you've wanted to pass off to them in general.

{Profectus, Skull Kid, Fulvia. I'll need you all to meet me in the foyer. Profectus, I have a shield for you. Fulvia, I've been meaning to hand over that Antimage core. Skull Kid, I have some Rhynian notes and that hovering drone thing I bought in your dimension that you can probably make better use of than I can.}

Profectus and Fulvia merely respond that they're on their way, but Skull Kid seems preoccupied. {Just give my stuff to Fulvia, Mik. She can bring it up to me. I've made a really fascinating discovery. I found this old cracked gemstone in that pile of old junk you passed off to me and I think I might be able to turn it into some sort of improvised explosive.}

Explosives... like that wad of putty he used to blow up the tower in his home dimension? {Just be careful, Skull Kid. If you're going to test that sort of thing... do it outside. Preferably, do it beyond the city limits. I don't want to attract too much attention from the guards even if I'm not technically still banished.}

His response is nonchalant. {Don't worry about a thing. This place has catacombs right? They'll provide the perfect venue for testing my inventions safely without attracting too much attention. I'll just have one of your servants show me the way when the time comes.}

You're not so sure. The catacombs are supposed to connect to the sewers and thus, much of the city. Rumors about strange booming noises from beneath the city are sure to cause disquiet amongst the common folk. Regardless, it's not an issue to deal with at the moment. The slave you sent to fetch your food returns a moment later with a small plate of feta cheese surrounded by black olives, olive oil drizzled across the top and the whole dish sprinkled with pepper. You take the plate and an offered fork gratefully and she bows before returning to her duties.

You meander out into the foyer, picking away at your olives and cheese while you wait for your companions to arrive. Predictably, Fulvia is the first to show up. You hold out your cloak and urge Ricky to push out the various Rhynian notes you have in your possession, the hovering drone you bought, and the corrupted antimage core. Three separate tentacles slink out of the blackness of our cloak, holding the items you asked for. You're disappointed to see that the drone is lifeless and dead. You remember something about it being powered by the sun. It probably ran out of vys, or whatever it is it runs off of.

Fulvia grabs the gem first, holding it almost reverently. Then she snatches up the papers and tucks the head-sized drone under one arm. “Thank you, Mikhael, for allowing me to use the corrupted core. Once I have purged it and slaved it to my will, we will be able to use it to construct a soldier with capabilities unparalleled by mortal warriors.” There is a very real eagerness to her voice, it's a touch unsettling but at the same time it's nice to see her showing emotions again.

Profectus rolls in a few minutes later. You've nearly finished your snack by the time he pushes open the door to the foyer. “Hey, Mik. Shield for me, yeah? You got the, what was it? Shield of Leleki right?”

You have Ricky push the shield out of your cloak, the bird emblazoned on its front shining dimly in the torch light. You're glad there isn't any work being done in the foyer or ballroom. This would probably look pretty strange. “I believe so. From my limited experience with the artifact you ought to be nearly unassailable in melee or at range. It seems very useful, if a bit aggressive in its direction of your limbs.”

Profectus scoffs. “It should be gentle as a kitten if you're using it right. Ideally you'd already be moving to block the incoming attack as the shield directed your arm. Thus it would all flow together in a very complementary fashion. Learn how to wield a tower shield, Mik. It will save your life”

You hold up a finger, begging pause. “It will save your life unless I attack you from thirteen different angles at once, which a skilled Vatis can do with ease. Learn how to wield magic, Profectus. It will save your life.”

He sets the edge of his shield down on the floor, leaning against the top. “I've actually made some progress on that front. Want to see something neat?”

You nod, and he holds out his stone arm. It cracks apart, revealing the fierce red glow of whatever material lies beneath its surface. Lava begins to bubble up from beneath the cracks, the stone quickly being subsumed by a roiling mass of red-hot molten stone. In an instant it solidifies, and where his arm used to be he now has a black stone blade with a particularly viscous looking point. The stone turns to dust a moment later, his arm beneath appearing once more normal.

You have to admit, you're impressed. “It's about time you figured out how to manipulate that arm of yours to a useful degree. How long have we been traveling together? More than a month now, yes? Certainly took you long enough.”

Profectus shrugs. “I don't know, for the longest time I felt like I'd hit this wall. Like I wasn't making any progress. I did a little reading though and I feel like I've pretty much pushed past that plateau. We'll see if I make any sort of significant progress.”

The two of you part ways after that. You set your plate down on top of one of the many spires you erected as part of the shrine and head for the front door. Profectus meanwhile wanders off into the dining hall, announcing his intention to do a little reading in the library. Maybe he'll finally stop being a lazy git now.

You emerge into the city streets, the smell of fish rotting in the midday sun hitting you like a physical force. You suppose you'll get used to it after a while, but gods above is it foul. You wonder why the merchants who built your new estate elected to place it on the docks instead of in the Merchant's District.

You push past the wall of stench and head up a flight of stairs, further into the city. You have a few options before you, since you're in the market for a goat. You could try the market, it's only a few dozen blocks away or so. A fairly short walk, and close to your family estate as well. Alternatively, you could head out into the outskirts and search there again. It will be cheaper, but it's really quite the walk.

I don't disagree, but this has been mentioned in at least 3 past threads in one form or another. One anon wrote like a whole essay about how manipulating vys to create magic probably has an effect on reality, and how we can look at the threads to see what something that is on fire normally looks like and compare it to our fire runes, then go from there to figure out natural phenomena in the runic script etc. Anons ended up making it into a metaphor where magic is hacking and enchanting is modding too. It was a whole thing.

The markets are closer, and that aside they're far nicer than the market stalls and peddlers you'd find in the outskirts. Sure you might have to look a little harder, but in the markets you never know what you might find. Plus you'll probably find a tailor on the way or around the outskirts of the market, and you'd been meaning to buy some travel clothes.

You set off, and find the walk pleasant enough. Once you put some distance between yourself and the docks, the smell of fish abates and the comparatively mild smell of the city comes to the fore. Of course In the Temple District it's not so bad. The streets are more or less kept clean and there aren't any workshops dumping their waste into the streets. Even the Common District doesn't usually smell too bad. The slums on the other hand reek of shit, piss, and industrial waste baking in the cruel desert sun. You're amazed anyone manages to live in that hellish place.

You end up passing by the Great Temple to Pani. Rather, you pass by the surrounding perimeter wall. It's a massive complex, easily as large as the Shah's Palace. Each gate is topped by a tall, pyramidal tower with carvings of Pani defeating various enemies, guiding souls into the afterlife, or performing any number of other charitable actions. The temple itself has an even larger tower which is said to house the essence of Pani herself, and supposedly it's this essence of Pani which grants boons to those of particularly strong faith. It must reach two hundred feet in the air, at least. A wonder of magical architecture.

As you're nearing the markets the streets begin to narrow. Shops, cafes, hookah dens, and bars crowd in around you. The shouting of men and women alike fill the air as you emerge into the vast plaza that is the El-Amin Market District. As you begin to wander around the edge of the market, looking for a tailor or some sort of clothes seller, you spot a little girl seemingly all alone. She can't be older than eight or nine, and she's simply standing in the middle of the street by herself. She looks afraid, and fidgets nervously as she scans the crowd for someone or something. You imagine she probably got separated from her mother, or some such. What sort of mother would be irresponsible enough to take their child into the chaos that is the Market District is a mystery to you.

Some paranoid part of your mind tells you that she's probably just a pickpocket. On the other hand, she doesn't really look the part. Her dress would suggest to you she's either the daughter of a minor noble or a particularly successful merchant, there's little effective difference between the two. Your mental image of a street rat is a young kid in glorified rags with a few missing teeth.

The girl notices you as you begin to approach her, eyes growing wide in momentary panic. You stop a few feet away and crouch down so you're not towering over her. “You look lost. Do you know where your mother or father have gone?” You keep your voice soft, the girl seems awfully skittish after all.

She fidgets, seemingly reluctant to answer. “Momma said I was s'posed to wait here, but that was a reeaally long time ago.” You can barely hear her voice over the din of the market, but you manage to make out what she's saying for the most part. “Have you seen her? She's, uhhm, she's tall like you. She was wearing a pretty dress, it had a whole bunch of colors on it, and lots of shapes. Oh! She was wearing flowers in her hair!”

You can't say you've seen anyone like that recently. It does lend credence to your idea that she's the daughter of some minor noble though. “I haven't seen your mother, I'm afraid. Where did you last see her? Where was she going?”

The girl points towards a near-by alleyway between a confectionery and a shoe maker's shop. You absentmindedly wonder if you could use some new boots, but the ones you're wearing have been holding up well. No need to replace them really. “Momma went in there, she said she was only going to be a little while and I wasn't s'posed to worry or nothing and she was just going to talk to her friend.”
(1/2)
>>
You get a distinctly uneasy feeling about this whole situation. Something in your gut tells you things aren't as they seem. For one thing, why would her mother just wander off into an alley to talk to her 'friend'? Is her mother a prostitute? Is she taking part in some sort of shady back-alley deal? Was she mugged? Was she trying to buy something off the black market? There isn't really much that it's illegal to sell in Pidjata, but smugglers make a fortune sneaking in goods without paying taxes and thus undercutting the prices of honest merchants. It's illegal to buy from smugglers but the City Guard largely turns a blind eye to such things.

>Buy her some bastani (ice cream, essentially) at the confectionery and wait to see if her mother shows up.

You stand up, pulling your cloak off your arm and quickly draping it around your shoulders. Best to have your weapons in reach, and all that. Not that a Vatis can ever truly be disarmed. “Wait here, okay? I'll go in and look for her.” You reach into your cloak, withdrawing two silver coins. Even if this is just a ploy to try and jump you and she runs off as soon as you're in the alley, two silver is nothing. “Why don't you buy yourself some bastani in the mean time?”

Her face lights up, her worries seemingly forgotten at the mention of sweets. She holds out her hand politely and you press the coins into her palm. “Thanks for looking for me, mister. I didn't want to go in there because it was dark and my Papa says that monsters don't hide in the dark but I don't think I believe him.” She skips off to the confectionery, vanishing inside in an instant.

With her occupied, you draw your dagger from its sheathe on your hip and cautiously venture into the alleyway. As you step into narrow space between the confectionery and the shoe maker's shop your cloak seems to dissolve, melting into a loose collection of shadows which cling to your form. Your footsteps are muffled, and your face hidden behind a screen of black. To all the world you must appear as if a vengeful spirit.

You don't hear anything from up ahead. No voices, no footsteps, not even anyone breathing. You round a corner, and then another, but still find yourself alone in the alleyway. You risk a glance over your shoulder to see if anyone is following you, but the alley is just as empty behind you as it is in front of you. However, it does seem far larger than you'd initially anticipated. You pass at least four or five other shops, and find yourself turning corner after corner on your way forward.
(1/2)
>>
Eventually you see a figure up ahead, though he doesn't seem to have noticed you. As a precaution you make your way over to a near-by collection of barrels and duck down behind it, observing him for a time. He's an ugly son of a bitch. His skin is a sickly green color and he has more piercings and tattoos than you'd wish to count. Judging by the ill kempt goatee he wears, you'd estimate that he's around three hundred or so. Not one to be trifled with, if he's managed to live to such an advanced age in otherwise good condition.

He wears a scimitar with a particularly broad blade on his hip, a hacking weapon really. Despite its crudeness, it seems to be of fine quality. You also spot the handle of a dagger sheathed behind his back. He seems to be standing guard in front of the open doorway of a dilapidated bar, leaned casually against the doorpost and smoking a pipe.

You channel magic, the a green filter slowly encroaching on the world. In this part of the city there isn't much in the way of plant life, so you can be reasonably certain that any large splotch of green you see is a living being. The door guard lights up immediately, of course. You also note five people inside the bar itself. Four of them are sitting down facing the fifth, who standing standing or leaning against something, you're not quite sure. You assume that's the bar, and the person standing is the bartender.

You cast your sight a little wider, checking out neighboring buildings. You can see the market district as a vast, seething field of green. There must be hundreds of people out today shopping or wasting time. It's almost impossible to see anything at all in that direction distinctly. However, on the other side you see only a few scattered individuals near-by. Most of them seem to be going about their business, walking this way or that. One blob darts through a street a few blocks over, two other green blobs following close behind. Kids, you assume.

Turning your attention once more to the bar you cast your attention upwards, to the second floor. You see one figure which appears to be pacing the room rapidly, while another figure is sprawled out on the floor. The figure on the floor isn't the same bright green as the figure pacing back and forth. Rather, they're incredibly pale. Barely distinguishable from the background. You assume that's what the recently dead look like through the filter of Nature magic, though you've never actually seen someone die while using nature magic.

There are two other figures on the second floor, both of them sitting down fairly close to one another. You'd assume thay're guards, or something of that nature. Perhaps merely two people passing time with conversation. You don't know.

So, you're going to guess that either the girl's mother is dead, or the girl's mother killed someone. You can't really be certain. It's not like the figures have clear and distinct sexes. Perhaps if you were a bit more experienced with Nature magic you might be able to glean more from such observations. Regardless, you cut the flow of vys and colors besides green return to the world. The guard leans against the door frame just as passively as ever, still smoking his pipe.

You step silently from out behind your cover, pressing yourself close to the opposite wall of the alley and advancing toward the guard. He doesn't even so much as glance at you, staring off at the end of the alleyway with a vaguely bored expression. As you approach to within five feet of the man you take one long stride to put yourself directly in front of him.

It must have appeared to him as if you simply came into existence directly in front of him. The guard's eyes fly wide and he reaches for his sword, yet he trips over himself in the process and winds up tumbling backwards onto his ass. As he scrambles backwards to get away from you, you step forward into the dim light filtering through the doorway. The swirling shadows which clung to your frame are banished, your cloak returning to a more definite shape and your face coming into view.

You smile charmingly enough to the guard. “Pardon the disturbance, just looking for a drink. Mind if I go on in?”

He opens and closes his mouth much like a fish trapped on dry land gaping for air. Eventually he seems to find his voice, managing to stammer out “S-sure, g-go on in. Don't let me stop you.”

You calmly step over the man where he lays on the floor, striding further into the bar proper. You hear the guard clamber to his feet behind you, and shortly after the rapidly receding sounds of footfalls. Seems you gave him quite the scare, or perhaps he merely has a well-honed survival instinct and knows when to get out of a bad situation.

You find yourself descending a short flight of stairs into a wide room beyond. It's surprisingly well appointed, for a back-alley bar. You spot a book keeper's desk against one wall, and the bar against the opposite wall. Two thick stone pillars hold up the ceiling and the floor above, benches arrayed around each. Between them sits a massive hearth, although it's currently empty and cold. The stairs up to the second floor are directly in front of you, just across the room.

As you predicted, there are four men sitting at the bar and one bartender standing behind. The men seem like rough sorts, much as their companion at the door seemed like a rough sort. One of them stands out to you in particular. He's dressed in leather armor which leaves his chest exposed and wields a scimitar on his hip. His hands are wrapped in cloth, bringing to mind the image of a boxer. He's the only one wearing any sort of armor out of the four of them.

Oddly enough the bartender seems like a perfectly plain young woman. Nothing really remarkable about her. Neither attractive nor unattractive. You wonder how she ended up working at a seedy joint like this.

You rapidly fade from visibility with a simple spell and slip silently into the room. You don't even bother trying to be stealthy, you merely stride confidently across the room to the stairwell on the other end. You even stop halfway across to turn towards them and slap your bicep, thrusting your arm upwards violently. It's an old gesture amongst your people that means 'I will brutally sodomize your asshole with my fist'. There's some debate among scholars as to whether it was borrowed from the Rhynians or perhaps predates the Rhynians, but it's unlikely that anyone will ever be able to truly know.

They don't notice, they don't even pause in their conversation or glance towards you. You stride confidently the rest of the way across the hall and let the spell fade as you begin to climb the stairs. You do so carefully, as you definitely hear voices coming from above. It's two men, and they both seem rather annoyed about something or other. You pause on the stairs as you draw close to listen in.

“-at she has the balls to come here after what happened.”

“You'd be surprised what people will do for a hundred gold.”

“Yeah, it's a lot of money, but would you really stand up to the boss over something like that? I fucking wouldn't. I'm quite happy with my testicles where they are, never particularly wondered how they'd taste shoved down my throat.”

“Yeah, but a hundred gold man. That's a lot of fucking money. Besides, she has a kid. Not saying I'd do the same in her place, just saying it's understandable.”

“Yeah, yeah. Just don't let the boss hear you say that shit. You hear about the Shahzadi?”

“No, which one?”

“The oldest. The Shah had her arrested for something or other. I heard it from one of the whores, said she had a sister working as a servant in the Royal Household. She just got dragged out of her room and off into the dungeon a few nights ago. Nobody's seen her since.”

(21/)
>>
“Well, you know how nobles are. They're always plotting to backstab one another. Even family.”

Conversation after that quickly turns to various slights and wrongs committed by nobles both past and present. General bitching, so far as you can tell. It's going to be difficult to slip past these two, since there seems to be one on either side of the stairs.

You let vys drain from your body, gathering it in the air around you. It's difficult at first to truly manipulate it, since you can't really see it, but you sort of have an innate sense of where it should be. You maneuver it into position, surrounding both men with a cloud of vys. Following your instinct, you accumulate significantly more vys around the target farthest from you compared to the target nearest.

You reconnect the vys surrounding each target to your reserves and cast the leaping paralysis spell. The first guard stops in mid sentence, and you rip the spell away. It gravitates naturally towards the second guard, likely due to the higher concentration of vys. As the spell hits the second guard it subsumes the vys which surrounded him and he seizes up. You hear him fall to the floor with a heavy thud, presumably he was standing up to check on his friend when the spell hit him.

You use a simple illusion to turn your face into an indistinct blur and step into the second floor foyer. The two men you paralyzed are both armed and amored guards. They're wearing thick leather, much like that man downstairs was but theirs doesn't show off their man tits. A simple Bhala spear, a weapon your people have used for thousands upon thousands of years, leans against the wall near where the second guard had been sitting while the first guard has an axe sitting across his lap.

(1/2)
>>
You ignore both of them. The foyer connects to a short hallway with three doors on either side and one at the end of the hall. You ignore all the doors save the one at the end of the hall, as it corresponds to the room where you saw the two figures. Pressing your ear against the door, you can hear boots stomping back and forth across the floor. Seems whoever is inside is still pacing. You think you can make out muffled speech, but you're not sure. Trying the handle, you find the door unlocked.

>Get your spear and shield out of your cloak, go in ready for a fight.
>Your dagger and your magic ought to be enough to handle some two-bit thug.

Concealing your dagger within the folds of your cloak for the time being, you push the door open. As the door swings open, your eyes come to rest upon the corpse of a woman lying within a pool of her own blood. Her throat has been slit from ear to ear, and already the blood has begun to dry. You imagine she's been dead for quite some time.

Next you turn your attention to the perpetrator. He's a young man, probably about the same age as you are. He's garbed in silk and gold, a tattered brown clock thrown over his shoulders. He's not wearing anything even vaguely resembling armor. The only things covering his torso are a few flimsy golden chains which would look more appropriate on a dancing girl than some sort of two-bit crime boss.

He has a dagger in one hand, blade coated in dried blood. You can feel the magic pouring off the blade even from across the room, so you assume it's an artifact of some sort. However, assuming it's the weapon he used on the dead woman laying on the floor it doesn't seem to have done anything overt to her. Besides the enchanted dagger he appears to be unarmed. “What the fuck do you want, and by the Gods what is wrong with your face? I told my fucking guards not to let anyone in here. Is it so much to ask that the men I hire are fucking competent for once in their accursed lives?”

He seems strangely unconcerned that you've stumbled upon him standing over the body of a dead woman with a bloody knife in his hand. Nor does he seem particularly worried by the fact that your face is nothing but a indistinct grey blur. Then again, he doesn't seem to understand why your face is an indistinct grey blur either. You'd guess that he knows some magic, perhaps he's an expert or even a master within one element, but you doubt he's had a formal education.

You doubt you'll be able to bring back the little girl's mother. You'd guess that she's long gone. The question then becomes whether you deliver vengeance or take your leave.

>>
>>37832353
why damage his soul

if you wanna get dark with it, we can keep him alive and try to use him as a soul battery to enchant items with.

Don't think that's ever gonna happen mind, but I've been curious if we can use other souls besides our own to enchant with.
>>
>>37832371
It's not really all that wasteful, just having permanency+paralysis nets will prevent us having to recast paralysis on him.
>>
>>37832395
Logically we should, but manipulating others' souls is probably a hassle.

>>
>>37832420
We have an underground complex beneath our mansion, creating a hidden room shouldn't be too hard with earth magic, hell the caves connect with the sea, we could create something like an ice dome to work in.
>>
Honestly something like this doesn't have to be all the furtive. We could suggest to Kadir upon our next meeting that those who have particularly heavy crimes, like murder, are to be used as research material for the Vatis of the Shahdom of El-Amin.
>>
>>37832437
That's basically what I was getting at, if we decide to keep someone around as a soul battery it would definitely need to be kept secret
>>37832466
Pretty much this
>>
>>37832466
it's also likely with our mastery of ice magic we'll be able to create any cutting tool we'll need.
>>
>>37832483
Now that is clever anon. Good idea. A lab that can only be accessed by an impromptu ice dome-path leading to a lonely underwater cave (which we could make) would do nicely.
>>
Vys begins to bleed from your body, you'll need to keep him talking long enough for you to prepare a hidden spell but he seems fairly verbose, it shouldn't be too hard. You gesture casually towards your face. “This? Just a rash, don't worry about it. I think you've a far more interesting story to tell.” You step into the room, the door slamming shut behind you and locking itself. “Don't worry about your guards interrupting us, I've taken good care of them.”

The man glares at you, raising his dagger defensively. “Did the Vidyarthi send you? Tell Hassan I'll have his money. This was just a minor setback that he need not concern himself with.” Huh, you've never heard of the Vidyarthi. The word translates as 'Students'.

Taking a seat in a surprisingly comfortable lounge chair you gesture towards the woman's corpse with your dagger. “Ah, but this does concern me I'm afraid. Who was this woman, and why did you feel the need to kill her?”

You're relatively confident that this guy is operating under the assumption that you're an agent for this 'Hassan' fellow. Working for whoever the Vidyarthi are. He answers your questions readily. “She's just a jumped up whore, nobody important. A nobleman who used to frequent this joint made an honest woman out of her after she got knocked up. Not even sure it's his, if I'm honest with you. She must have screwed a hundred men that same week.”

“Anyway, bitch comes rolling in here like she owns the damn place and demands money that I apparently 'owe' her. Fuck that, right? Like I'm going to let some skank intimidate me just because she's got a broke nobleman for a husband now. Wouldn't you know it I tried to illustrate to her the mistake she'd made and she pulls a knife on me! I had to kill her, really. It was self-defense.”

(1/2)
>>
You wag a finger at the man admonishingly. “Ah, but she was a nobleman's wife. Even a minor noble has enough clout to have some back-alley whore house off the Market District burnt to the ground.”

The man scowls. “Yeah, that's what I was just thinking. Trying to figure out how to get rid of the body all quiet like. Figured I'd just wrap it up in something and toss it in the bay. No mess no fuss, nothing connecting this to me and my business.”

You sigh in mock exaggeration. “Unless of course she told her husband or indeed anyone where she was going today. All it would take is the word of a noble to have you branded and cast out.”

The man looks at you with clear annoyance. “Oh quit fucking with me, we both now how easy it is to get back into the city. All you gotta do is lay low a few weeks and have one of them high and mighty magic types fix it up for you. You're the ones who do that sort of shit to begin with.”

Man, how have you never heard of these Vidyarthi people before? Regardless, your spell is prepared and you could cast it at any time. The vys gathers around him like an ominous cloud, ready to be channeled towards any purpose you so choose.

>>37832691
No.
>>
>>37832660
Why anon? Why?
>>
>>37832542
>See what else you can get out of him, this has proved enlightening.
>Write-In:
"True, true. But do we also both know that the nobleman has a particular friend he has begun to rely on?"
"A very peculiar noble vatis. He's not exactly unfamiliar with these matters, sadly, and he's got quite a mean streak, even more than you-know-who."
"But that's for another time. Hassa- Hah, Excuse me, our benefactor wants more information about this dealing, just a simple request considering the time it's taken. I'm sure you understand."
>>
>>37832542
>See what else you can get out of him, this has proved enlightening.

That's how BQ works.

>Torture
Should be
>RIKDINDIN
>>
>>37832691
Having a dead body of a samnji n our premise would be more than enough for kadir.
If any of our companions find this out all of them would be horrified and pissed.
except for fulvia, and maybe chrys.
Our family and master are obvoiusly gonna be agianst doing this, since we are already on a tight rope, and this is morally wrong in thier views.
>>
>>37832760
It doesn't have to be on our premise. Have you followed the line of conversation at all?

A lab, anon, a secret lab! Made to only be accessible to a GM water vatis.
>>
>>37832672
I agree, pretty sure all the work into discovering anatomy has already been done before in setting by Water GMs anyway, we wouldn't be learning anything that we can't just read in a book.
Besides, we don't even know if this guy is ACTUALLY in the wrong, it's just that people want to go full torture mode because a little girl is involved
>>
>>37832760
>implying anyone will ever find it
Anon, it's kind of hard to find a dead corpse deep underground, especially when you don't know its there
>>37832754
Says who?
>>
>>37832781
Or some one with time and knows fire magic, or maybe a baby dragon.
>>37832787
I think its the flesh craft anons.
>>
>>37832787
Incorrect. I want him for research. He just happens to be a bad enough dude to foot the bill for it.
Primarily soul research, though.
>>
Rolled 9, 5, 10 = 24 (3d10)

>>37832737
So, roll for bullshit?
>>
>>37832795
Pretty sure you can. In fact we have things like Anatomy text books.

You're a fucking idiot.
>>
>>37832787
>I slit this fucking whores throat man
>cunt thought I owed her money
>man how am I going to secretly dump this body
Gee I wonder if he's in the wrong, also Loli has nothing to do with it, Ive wanted to study anatomy since forever.
>>
>>37832818
I honestly think the first hand working knowledge will be more valuable.
>>
>>37832817
Yup, go ahead and roll. 3d10+3 vs DC 24 to get some good shit outta him.
>>
>>37832818
Yes and we also have bodies donated to science, for students to work on so they don't fuck up. Book learning and hands on learning are two very different things. Especially in shit like this
>>
Rolled 1, 1, 7 + 3 = 12 (3d10 + 3)

>>37832848
Diplo bonus doesn't count for this?
Ahh well.
DIIIIIEEE IIIICCEEE
>>
Rolled 2, 1, 7 + 3 = 13 (3d10 + 3)

>>37832848
>>
Rolled 9, 6, 7 + 3 = 25 (3d10 + 3)

>>37832848
>>
>>37832848
Wrong button, should be 3d10+6
>>
Anyone noticed how every time we leave the house Soma drops a plot hook on us?

We need to never leave the house again.

From now on we sent slaves or party members to run errands and visit the markets and deliver messages.
>>
Rolled 1, 4, 9 + 3 = 17 (3d10 + 3)

>>37832848
>>
>>37832837
Mik isn't the type though, he heals bandits who were ready to kill him, it would be out of character to go torture crazy
>>
>>37832811
Yeah, sure, you're as see-through as the Japanese Whaling fleet.
There are so, so many safer and more legal ways of getting that kind of information and practice then grabbing a dude with mob connections from a back alley bar.

>>37832826
The sheer fact that you actually used the word Loli when referring to a little girl just gives the game away.
>>
>>37832864
>>37832866
Thems some questionable rolls.
>>
>>37832866
Good thing we can spend 12 Vys.
>>
Rolled 6, 4, 2 + 3 = 15 (3d10 + 3)

We better leech this little faggot for all he's worth after this.
>>
>>37832874
Whom of which we sold into slavery shortly afterwards.
It's not torture, it's study.
>>
Rolled 3, 4, 1 + 6 = 14 (3d10 + 6)

>>37832871
>>
>>37832874
>brokenrecord.mp3
If it matters that fucking much you puss we can numb the fucker, but seeing the organs at work is very important.
>>
>>37832872
I second this motion
>>
>>37832864
>>37832866
>>37832869
>15, 16, 28 vs DC 24
>Failure!
You could spend 8 vys to make it a Success. You're incapable of making it a Great Success. You're at 23/45 after casting the Hidden, Ranged, Paralysis spell.
>>
>>37832879
>the sheer fact
Nice job being wrong fag, Loli and little girl are literally interchangable.
>>
>>37832879
Well I don't see you taking the opportunity to suggest them, so it's fair for me to take the opportunity to suggest acquiring a method right in front of us thank you very much.
There's little need to be so abrasive.
>>
Rolled 6, 10, 8 = 24 (3d10)

>>37832912
what about our diplomacy trait?
>>
>>37832912
Spend it.
>>
>>37832912
Spend
>>
>>37832912
Spend.
>>
>>37832926
I applied the correct bonuses to the roll. Just added 3 to each result.
>>
In the time it has taken us to do all of this bullshit (which we never intended to do in the first place) we could have learned at least 2 probably even 3 or 4 new Metas.

Our Vys pool could be 53 right now.

53.
>>
>>37832891
Yeah, but remember that slaves are well treated in samjam culture, and how common slavery is
>>37832896
oh well okay then, it's suddenly a perfectly reasonable course of action
>>
>>37832947
I'm having more fun doing this than meditating though
>>
>>37832874
Not to mention first hand study would take too long to be productive.
>>37832919
Selective invisibility comes to mind.
>>
>>37832947
yup, but people wanted to save time and instead walk and head to the market.
>>
>>37832947
Meditating repeatedly incurs penalties.
>>
>>37832947
I am filled with regret.

Remind me as to why we are not grinding right now?
>>
>>37832970
Excellent, we can use selective invisibility on him. That's a wonderful idea anon.
>>
>>37832977
And we still got 2 last time. We now have a new trait and can spend more Vys.

Negates the maluses. Just gotta do the harder ones first and the easier ones last.
>>
>>37832947
I feel your pain anon, its as bad as not reading the many books we have.
>>
>>37832970
Says you, but you did just invalidate the first thing you said with the second thing you said.

We can meditatively study him using that method you just suggested. What the problem is?
>>
>>37832970
Seriously, we have enough things taking up our time already.
>>
>>37833012
Second
>>
>>37832977
actually with our new bonus and the open gate, we could do 3 metas easily. maybe 4, but that is pushing it and asking for a void caller.
>>
Page 11!
>>
>>37832988
>>37833010
You don't realize how are being right now do you? You forgot one vital flaw to plan that makes it impossible.
>>
>>37833029
Yeah but our new trait allows us to resist Void beings much better.

At least enough to dip the fuck outta there before shit goes down.
>>
>>37832947
Calm yourself, we had shit to do and /tg/ loves playing the hero
>>
>>37833045
Well, what is it?
>>
>>37832917
>He actually thinks that
>And he calls me a fag
how does it feel to be a massive fucking pleb?

I'm more interested in seeing the sights and getting to look at more of the setting than getting more plus 1s.
>>
How about we do this

1. Kill this guy
2. Get a goat
3. Inform our parents
4. Go back to estate and meditate

Anyone? Yes? Sound like a plan?
>>
>>37833053
>loves playing the hero
>thinking what these anons are suggesting is anywhere near that.
I would get it if it to kill him or something like that, but this is different.
>>
>>37833045
>you're forgetting this super important thing
>not like I'm gonna go ahead and tell you what it is

I'm gonna vote against whatever you're supporting just to spite your terrible argument and wording.
>>
>>37833053
From now on shopping and message delivering is slave work.
>>
>>37833087
Sounds good
>>
Rolled 10, 9, 6 + 2 = 27 (3d10 + 2)

>>37833087
we should probably transport the mothers body and the girl back home though, kinda a dick move to leave them there.
>>
>>37833067
I think he might be talking about Vys. We are quite low on it and meditating in this location isn't a very good idea.
>>
>>37833087
Toss in going back to the kid and taking her home after we kill this guy.
>>
>>37833087
We still need to end the child's breif story line, and meet her father.
>>
>>37833114
That's what the lab is for, what a silly anon he must be.
>>
>>37833111
>>37833087
Otherwise, I agree with that plan.
>>
>>37833111
Alright yeah

1. Kill this guy
2. Return mothers body and little girl to Noble.
3. Get a goat
4. Inform our parents
5. Go back to estate and meditate
>>
>>37833087
We should get the goat after informing our parents. Don't want to drag that thing all over town.
>>
>>37833091
>waaaah we should treat criminal scum like people
I bet you thought the bar was anything but a trash heap needing to be burned
>>
>>37833087
Absolutely
I'm totally in favour of doing anatomy work at some time, but not when we have so much other shit to do and meditate on.
