You shake your head in disappointment. “Now why on Earth should we go through all the trouble of smuggling you back into the city when you keep fucking up like this? No, I think it's come time to cut our losses.”

He falls very silent, apparently in shock. When he finally does find his voice he sounds incredulous. “Cut your losses? Do you know who I fucking am? I'm Ajit the Naga! The fucking Naga! You don't just cut ties with me, asshole. I'm the one who cuts ties with you. So why don't you go back to that fucking shithole you call a temple and tell Hassan that Ajit is his own fucking man now and I'm taking all the business in the Market with me!”

You stare at him in silence, hoping he'll say more. Luckily your bet payed off. “Yeah, that's right. I know about the temple. That fucking village north of the city, on the edge of the canyon. One of you fuckers had me dragged out there for a meeting. So run off back to your hole in the ground and tell that old bastard Hassan to fuck himself.”

So that's what that military-esque compound you saw on the way to the temple was. Some sort of compound for these Vidyashi, whoever they are. Some sort of criminal organization clearly. “I'm afraid that's not how this is going to go, Ajit. Only one of us is going to be leaving this building.”

There's a tense moment where you're both just staring at one another, and then he jerks his arm up like he plans on throwing his dagger. It's at that moment that you trigger the paralysis spell, leaving him frozen with his arm in the air and the dagger clutched in his hand.

Standing calmly, you cross the room and pry the dagger from his fingers. His eyes track you the entire time but he's helpless to do anything but watch. You come to stand in front of him, his dagger in your hand. You inspect the blade passively while considering just what it is you want to do with this rotten bastard. You could turn him in to the guard, but you don't really know the extent of these Vidyashi's influence. They might be able to get him out. Alternatively, you could cut his throat with his own blade. That would seem fitting punishment.

You briefly consider dragging him back to your estate and performing a vivisection, but find the thought distasteful. Certainly it's a procedure which has been performed in the post both for meditative and medical purposes. However, it's typically practiced on willing and paid participants if it's practiced at all. It's considered a little crude by the Vatis community at large.

You could stab him in the gut and leave him to bleed to death. It would be a slow and agonizing death. Perhaps a bit excessive, but he's proven to be the scum of the Earth. You could also feed him to Ricky, though you're not sure if you want Ricky to get a taste for Samjan. He already bugs you to get him live animals to consume.

As for the blade, it's a fine weapon. There are two deep purple gems embedded in the grip, one in the guard and one in the pommel. Where the blade meets the guard the metal seems to part and twist together, almost like something organic. It has but a single cutting edge, a familiar passage scrawled along the side of the blade. “May the Most Divine Surya punish those who speak out”. It's a common phrase in the military and criminal organizations alike, apparently. No clue what it does, but it's obviously enchanted.

You press the point of the blade into his throat and drag it smoothly across his neck. You take a few steps away as blood spills from the wound, rapidly staining that tattered brown cloak of his red. Even after you're relatively certain the man's died, he still stands there with one arm raised in the air, clutching a nonexistent dagger. It's like some sort of perverse monument, in a way.

You clean off his dagger on a portion of his cloak that isn't soaked in blood and then tuck it into your own cloak. Curious that it didn't seem to do anything. Maybe it lacks charge, or something of that nature? Regardless you make your way over to the desk at the end of the room, searching the drawers until you find what you're looking for, a fat pouch of coin. You take a few minutes to count it out, finding it totaled two hundred and thirteen gold.
>New Wealth: 9595 Silver; Extremely wealthy. Nothing is beyond your price range.

You tuck the coin into your cloak and stride nonchalantly out of the room. You find that the two guards you paralyzed are still right where you left them. You don't even bother trying to sneak past the five people at the bar, merely stride past without a care in the world. You hear a woman's voice call out to you, but by the time she reaches the door you've already been subsumed by the black of the alleyway, your cloak shifting into a ethereal collection of shadows.

You drop the illusion that's been keeping your face obscured as you approach the main thoroughfares of the market district, and as you emerge into the streets you whip off your cloak and drape it over one arm. Only moments later a burly man in trousers and a linen shirt burst out of the alley you exited only moments before, casting a wild-eyed look over the crowd before shoving his way into a crowd of shoppers on the way to the main plaza.

(1/2)
>>
You ensure that there's no blood on your hands or your clothing, then duck into the confectionery next to the alley entrance. You spot the little girl sitting at a small metal table next to a window. She has melted bastani all over her face and the last remants of the frozen cream desert sitting at the bottom of a glass bowl in front of her.

You sit down across from her at the table, using a simple spell to condense water from the air and wash the bastani off her face. She giggles, trying to wipe the water off her face with her sleeve but failing utterly in doing so. The wonders of being able to control water with magic.

“Your mother can't join us right now, her meeting is going to last longer than she'd thought,” Gods above this is hard to say. You can feel your throat twisting itself into a knot but force yourself to continue on. “, but she told me that I ought to go ahead and take you back to your house. Where do you live?”

She swallows her last bite of bastani, pushing the bowl away. “I live next to the Shah's house. My papa says he works for the Shah, but he won't tell me what he does. My Momma says that Papa is really important, but I don't think I believe her. Papa doesn't seem all that important. He's not magic and he can't even fight good. My brother always beats him when they wrestle.”

You're not really sure what to make of that, if you're being honest. Maybe if you knew what noble house she belonged to you'd have a better idea of where their estate was. “What's your name?”

She clears her throat, sitting up straighter. You get the impression that she's rehearsed this. “Mirza Nisha El-Hashem, daughter of great Emir Yasin.” She slouches in her chair, overly pleased with herself. “My Momma makes me say that all the time because she says that it's important to understand how to introduce yourself to nobles. I don't really get why it's so important. It seems silly to me.”

(1/2)
>>
Gods above, Emir Yasin is a man not to be fucked with. He's been the Vizier for the last three Shahs and his family escaped the destruction of Hiacia alongside the founders of the Shahdom of El-Amin. Save your own family, they represent one of the most distinguished families in the entire Shahdom.

At least it will make finding her house easy. Emir Yasin lives in a massive estate directly adjacent to the Royal Palace. You've heard there are actually secret tunnels connecting the El-Hashem estate to the palace itself but you've yet to see any proof of this.

You didn't know Emir Yasin fancied whores. You'd thought he already had four wives, but he must have only had three if he fairly recently married another woman. Why would the wife of Emir Yasin need to collect on a debt owed to her by a relatively unimportant pimp? One would think that she would be literally swimming in money.

Regardless, it's not important. You need to get this girl home to her father. “Well, I think I know where your father lives then. Are you ready to go?”

She nods, and you stand up. As you make your way out of the store she grabs onto your hand, skipping along next to you as you make your way once more into the market district. You're starting to vaguely regret giving that thug such a quick death, it's increasingle clear that he deserved worse.

You find yourself walking a little straighter, your shoulders held back. As horrible as it might be to think of this situation as an opportunity, that's what it is. An opportunity brought on by unfortunate circumstance. You and Nisha make good time through the market district, largely ignoring the cries of the merchants and the allure of market stalls. You emerge into the Noble District, which starts just on the other side of the market. The streets here are wide and clean, the usual smells of the city replaced by the subtle tones of burning incense.

You actually end up passing your family home, or the street on which your family home lies, on your way to the Palace. Despite technically being of the same rank as Emir Yasin, your family has never held quite as much clout. You were viewed predominantly as merchants and bankers, despite a long history of great admirals and powerful vatis. The El-Hashem family, by contrast, has always been a family of diplomats and rulers. They were Satraps before they were Emirs, where as your family were slaves. The fact they own vast tracts of land all across Pidjata while your own family have never possessed more than relatively minor holdings outside of the city may have something to do with it as well.

Eventually you arrive before the palatial estate of Emir Yasin. Two guards stand on either side of the great steel gates that bar entry to all but the highest echelons of nobility. They wield massive axes almost as large as they are tall, decorated with gold filigree. You're forced to wonder if they can even lift the things, or If they're purely for show.

(1/2)

You approach the guards, clearing your throat to get their attention. They turn their eyes on you silently, and you come to realize you hadn't actually thought about how you were going to introduce yourself.

You gesture to Nisha next to you. “The Emir's daughter, in case you're blind. I found her wandering the Market District earlier. I also have some news for the Emir it would be best for him to hear in private.”

One of the guards lifts his mask, peering at Nisha for a moment before muttering something about eye holes and tugging on a silk rope next to the gate. The gates swing open and the other guard, who hadn't tugged the rope, hefts up that massive axe of his and begins to lead you and Nisha further into the estate.

You find yourself wandering through a vast garden, mostly consisting of native plants with only a handful of imported plants. The focal point of the courtyard seems to be a massive, twisted tree. It almost seems to be a collection of smaller trees fused together. The trunk alone is wide enough that five men standing shoulder to shoulder would still be slightly less than its width. The branches splay out elegantly, vines hanging down from each with dainty leaves providing the only hint of foliage besides.

You pass through a arched doorway, the doors already flung open when you arrive, and into a long hallway. You navigate a maze of twist and turns, seemingly without any sense to them at all. There are almost no doors in the entire estate, the most privacy being offered by thick silken curtains hanging within many of the arched doorways. However, when finally the guard stops and steps aside, you find yourself faced by a set of wooden double doors not dissimilar to the doors leading into your own father's study.

Wow, I'm actually on time for BQ.
I've been lurking since thread 1, and I gotta say you do a magnificent job, Soma. Great worldbuilding and interesting characters.
>>
The guard pushes the door open, and you step inside. The man that stands to greet you is not what you expected. Clean shaven, and fairly youthful in appearance. He has long white hair which hangs past his shoulders, braided in several places. He dresses in somber colors, blacks and golds mostly with a few odd touches of silver. Not nearly as ostentatious as you would expect of the Shah's Vizier.

He wears an amulet around his neck with some sort of polished metal ball set in its center. It exudes a strong magical presence, far stronger than the presence exuded by that dagger you retrieved from the thug. Before either you or the Emir can say a word, Nisha cries out, “Papa!” and runs across the well-appointed study to leap into her father's embrace.

Emir Yasin replies in kind, “Nisha! I thought you were shopping with your mother.” He picks her up and spins her around, setting her down gently. She hasn't stopped grinning since you entered the room. “Is everything okay? I'm told this man-” He pauses, gesturing towards you. “-Found you wandering the markets by yourself.”

Nisha nods her head vigorously. “I'm fine! He's really nice. Momma went to talk to a friend in an alley and I told him and he went and looked for her. Momma is gonna be having her meeting for a little longer but she said that I should come home so he brought me back!”

Anger flashes briefly across the Emir's face, followed quickly be confusion, and ultimately by curiosity. He doesn't quite seem to know what to make of it. “Thank you, Nisha. Why don't you go play with your sisters? I think I need to reward your friend for returning you safe and sound.”

She hugs her father tightly, and he gives her a brief kiss on the forehead before gently pushing her off on her way. She skips past you, the Emir watching her go. As the door slams shut behind her, the Emir looks to you with a vague sense of unease. “She'd sworn up and down that she'd given that life up. Tell me it's not the way it sounds.”

>Worse, actually. She's dead.

>Try to break the news gently.

It is hard to be the bearer of bad news when such joy has just left the room. She has joined Pani's loving embrace. The man responsible has been killed, this is the dagger that he used that was ultimately used on him. I had no knowledge of her... connections until I spoke with your daughter after the incident.

Give him the details of the house that it occurred in, along with all the information that you gleaned from your interrogation with him.

Also provide your name, state that you are an unbanished Aghtaki if he recognizes your name as one that was being banished, provide the paperwork if necessary.

I would say give him the 100 gold, blood money carries with it a curse that haunts those that have taken it, though i do not know if he would accept such a thing or if it is in Mikhaels character to give money away freely.

>Try to break the news gently.

Don't bullshit him but don't be overly blunt either. Maybe say she was trying to tie up lose ends from what we understand, things got heated and she sadly lost her life.

We dont like writeins that aren't for haggling.

They're usually utter shit.

You mean 'Today' Soma?

Aw baby infinate Banished quest !
>>
I think I'd still rather have an adopted loli imouto than a favor owed to us by one of the most powerful people in the world.
>>
>>37835021
I'd rather not kidnap a powerful nobles daughter against her will
>>
>>37835021
While I am about that, our party is too big as it is.
>>
>>37835021
we'll just steal the girl after we get our reward
>>
>>37835021
I was hoping she'd become our apprentice or something
>>
>>37835021
We could go to the orphanage, we're a rich fucker with a generous streak and a giant ass mansion, we could afford to adopt some kids. It would also look good when kadir reveals he unbanished us.

But anon that wont work, they are too high up on the noble chain.
>>
>>37835078
...you mean the dragon?

No mater how magic Mik is, I don't think that one is going to fly.
Much like he can't.
>>
>>37835078
That could be a bit of an awkward wedding.
>>
>>37835092
>mik is crying yelling about losing his baby boy

>zahak is eating the priest
>>
>>37835088
Yeah, but that's how you move up in the chain.
>>
>>37835103
well that was all the convincing I need
>>
I hour we're not going to try to house or identity. He probably knows about us, I'm pretty sure the Grand vizier would be one of the first ones to know about near-death of the Shah
>>
>>37835186
Damn I hate auto correct.

I hope we are not going to hide*
>>
We should have taken that dude to someone important. He had information regarding a whole ring of people who professionally circumvent the banishment. That’s important enough to directly involve the Shah.
>>
>>37835413
Knee-jerk reaction by the players. Also shows that vigilante justice is shit tier.
Should have given him over to the guards.
At least we gleaned a lot of information from him, and perhaps we can tract down the other patrons of the bar. They still have the hidden spells on them, maybe that will make finding them easier.
>>
>>37835463
>waaaaaaahhhh muh criminals are people
We already know all we need to know faggot, we gotta go to the church. So shut up and stop whining about shit that already happened
>>
>>37835488
>>37835463
Let's just tell this guy all we know of it and be on our way.

Let him handle his own business.
>>
Yo seriously though, what happened to those goats we bought?
>>
>>37835502
But I want the mobsters money.
>>
>>37835488
Are you an imbecile?
>>
>>37835528
No but I do believe you are.
>>
>>37835502
I would have wanted them to handle their own business. Had I been awake at that time I would have suggested to hand him over to the Shah (changing it after talking to the girl to her father) and letting them extract as much information out of the dude as they can. This should have given us a whole lot of goodwill with both the Shah and her father for a minimum of effort.
>>
>>37835488
We know all we need to know. We do not know as much as we could know.

And it would be far easier with the guy there. And it would net us more goodwill if the father want personal revenge.
>>
>>37835562
>we don't know all we could know
what like his favorite color? Stop worrying about pointless shit, we did what we did, its over now, hes dead, no matter how hard you post about how we shouldn't have killed him, you won't time travel, so pls go and stay go
>>
Soma did go to bed, right?

I was thinking more of the small minutae that would be boring to Mikhael, but which law-enforcment would love to have. All the informatio about other criminals for example, contact persons, other agents of that group. Hide-outs in the city. Or other information like, where to you hide your assets? What is the code-phrase to enter certain hide-outs? How do you contact higher ups of the scholars? A lot of stuff that I would’t necessarily want on-screen but that would make him valuable to hand over to other people.
>>
>>37834288
Damn it, should've taken the woman's body with us, done easily in the cloak.
It's fairly stupid how she got killed for 100 gold when she's the wife of the Vizier though.
>>
>>37837695
I wonder if we could have taken the faggot alive.
The wife is handled by the cloak, but how could we have done with the faggot?
I guess get a pipe or something, hook it up to his mouth, and keep one end outside of the cloak while Ricky keeps him well-behaved?
>>
>>37838087
a) Keep his head looking out of the cloak.
2) Tie him up and pull him.
c, Tie his arms, keep him on a leash.
>>
>>37839281
I don't think walking around the Merchant District, the Noble District, and meeting the Emir with his daughter holding our hand would've been very viable like that.
Though literally just carrying him around and telling anyone who asks that he's a criminal might have worked, if we managed to get him out of the building.
Maybe if we kept it simple and got out through the window?
Damn, hindsight is 20/20
