RULES AND STATS: http://pastebin.com/SeV4Mmqv

You are KARLA WEISS, a Belkan fighter pilot looking to carve your own place in the skies!

Currently, you were escorting an Atlas supply convoy of three cargo planes into Area B7R, or what any pilot worth their salt called the Round Table. Suffice to say, things were fairly dull, since for hundreds of miles around, all you could see was barren desert.

"I spy... something brown!" Lara chirps.

"IT'S SAND AND DIRT!" Amy yells. "BECAUSE EVERYTHING AROUND US IS NOTHING BUT SAND AND DIRT!"

"Jeez, you don't have to be so grumpy about it." Lara says quietly.

"Oh, I think it's just the desert heat. Amy did grow up in the mountains, after all!" Lilian chuckles.

Meanwhile, the Butterflies, who were also assisting in escort duty, were flying up ahead of the formation, occasionally doing a few aerial maneuvers to test each other and relieve their boredom. You, on the other hand, were busy reading all the various briefings while you set your plane on autopilot. The briefings were pretty dense, but you sort of got the gist.

There were currently four major groups operating in the Round Table: Atlas Corporation, Hyperion Corporation, Dahl Corporation, and One Belka. The first three groups were corporations with mining interests in the area, and all have hired mercenaries to protect said interests from each other. Meanwhile, One Belka, which claims the Round Table is still part of Belka, constantly harasses the corps. In addition to these groups, there were numerous smaller, independent groups. Prospectors and treasure hunters seeking to strike it rich.

However, your main concern was protecting Atlas' interests, equipment, and personnel, starting with this supply convoy.

"Heads up, girls." Loki speaks up on the radio. "I'm picking up unidentified contacts to the north."

"Enemy planes?" Lara asks, a bit too excited for her own good.

"Unknown. Could just be false returns." Loki says uncertainly.

Man, for an AWACS, Loki could be really unhelpful at times.

"All right, let's go, Stripes." You say.

"YEEEESSS!" Lara squeals as she hits afterburner.

Hm, yeah. A bit too eager. You figure she was just as bored as everybody else. You open up the throttle but don't hit afterburner yourself to conserve fuel. Sure, you still have more than enough to get to base, but no point using up more than you have to.

Soon enough, you start getting some intermittent readings on your radar screen, too. You squint to try and make out the signatures, and then look out your cockpit to see if you could get a visual.

Finally, your radar clears up and you get solid contacts. Six incoming craft. Two Flanker-Cs and Four MiG-29s. No recognizable IFF code.

"Unidentified craft, this is Wild Card Four. You are approaching an escorted supply convoy. Reverse course or we will be forced to defend ourselves." You call out on an open channel.

"This is Hammer Leader. You are encroaching in Hyperion airspace." A rough voice grunts. "Turn back immediately and exit Area B7R or we will fire on you."

"Aw, sounds like they're trying to pick a fight!" Lara chuckles. "Poor bastards."

Well, it looks like you were in a standoff. From what you remember, under Atlas rules of engagement, practically anybody not a part of Atlas was fair game. However, you weren't too keen on escalating situations when you didn't have to.

One thing you couldn't do was run, though. No way the cargo planes could outrun those fighters.

But do want. It's the perfect setup too. 3 PS2 games getting put onto a more modern system. Hell, if it was PS4 only, I'd buy a PS4 and it just to make a point.

"8492, 8492, is that all you people can say?! The 8492nd Squadron doesn't exist!"

And they never thought about that when Wardog was relieved by 8492 until they became Razgriz?

Also, Thunderblockhead, where are the recordings of the radio transmissions?
>>
>>37892428
One of my favorite tests of skill was saying "fuck this running away shit" and murdering the 8492 squadron until the game let me pass the mission.

Has anyone ever beaten the Yellow Squadron the first time you see them, in Lifeline?

Honestly, Infinity seems like it's dominated by a few dozen wallet whales now; if you play, it's either because you've sunk literally $1000 (no joke, someone has) into the game, or because you don't give a shit and just want HD versions of classic AC gameplay
>>

Many said they have godmode on that mission. They just invincible.
The first you can shot yellow for real is during Comona.
>>
>>37892509
I got two kills on my second playthrough using I forget what. Other than that, nothing. And I get absolutely demolished during that ambush.

>>37892530
That explains why we never hear from them again, ever.

>>37892543
For 8492? Nah, I've shot down a few of them. However, they do have impossible acceleration.

You fire off two missiles and a QAAM and wath as the three projectiles rocket off. Lara fires two of her own missiles off. You track their progress on radar and watch as your three missiles all score hits, with three of the Fulcrums winking off the screen while the fourth one goes down as well. In the distance, you see a quartet of bright flashes and smoke trails. You couldn't tell if any of the pilots bailed out, though.

"That's one kill for Wild Card One and three for Wild Card Four!" Loki says proudly. Keep it up, girls, and watch out for those incoming missiles!"

"Oh crap!" You blink when you realize the Hyperion planes managed to fire off their own spread of missiles. They certainly had the time to.

"Following the release of Ace Combat 04: Shattered Skies, some fans reported that they were able to successfully shoot down Yellow Squadron during Lifeline, which is widely believed to be impossible. A developer later admitted in an interview that the squadron was not invincible; their health and maneuverability were simply raised.[citation needed]"
Citation needed, so take that for what you will. But I'm not the only one who has done this.

Common sense dictated that you take the safe route and turn around to outrun the missiles.

Then again, if aces every had any common sense, they'd never get in the cockpit to begin with.

"C'mon, let's go!" Lara says as she hits the throttle, her Eagle pushing forward TOWARDS the missiles.

"Of course." You chuckle. You see Dawn and Echo's Nosferatus quickly catching up behind you as you hit the throttle as well.

Now, flying against missiles head on wasn't as suicidal was one would think. As long as you were quick witted enough, you could turn or dive sharply at the last second. Unless they were QAAMs, the missiles would be nowhere near maneuverable enough to keep up with you.

But again, it relied a whole lot on knowing when to dodge.

"I hope you girls know what you're doing..." Loki cautions.

You don't respond, mostly because you were trying to concentrate. You can see the six missiles flying out, and you quietly look at your radar as the distance narrows. You mentally count down the seconds to impact and when the missiles are literally right on top of you, you finally make your move. You quickly push your stick forward, sending your Falcon's nose down towards the desert sand below. Lara does the exact same thing, and you see all six missiles pass harmless over your planes as they lose track and fail to reacquire.

"Fucking impossible!" You hear one of the Hammers gasp, apparently forgetting he was still on an open channel.

"Reinforcements, reinforcements! WHERE THE HELL ARE OUR REINFORCEMENTS!" Hammer Lead stammers.

Heh, they were definitely pissing their pants now. You see the Flanker-Cs pull a sharp 180 turn as they try to flee the combat area. You figure that between your own planes and the Butterflies, you could easily chase them down if you wanted.

"Okay, let's hold off for now." You say, throttling your Falcon down.

"AAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWW." Both Lara and the Butterflies whine.

"Come on, they'll most likely just regroup with their reinforcements and circle back. You'll have another chance." You sigh. However, you can't resist and key back to the open channel. "Hey, better luck next time, Hammer. We'll be waiting."

"This isn't over!" Hammer Lead growls as the Flanker-Cs become tiny specks in the distance.

Your impromptu flight links back up with the convoy as if nothing had happened.

"Congratulations on the kills!" Lilian says cheerfully. "Good to see you're all okay! Magnet was worried sick about you all!"

"I was NOT." Amy grunts.

"Don't worry, we love you too, Magnet." You snicker.

"Anyways." Loki interrupts. "We should be reaching Atlas controlled airspace soon. We can expect some friendly support."

"So, how was your first battle in the Round Table?" Lilian asks you. "Excited? Nervous?"

Ah, right, this was the Round Table, after all. Hallowed ground for all fighter pilots.

"I didn't really notice anything, honestly." You shrug. It just seemed like any other dogfight. "Didn't even have a proper duel. Most of it was BVR."

"Ah, I see." Lilian says.

"Heads up, I'm picking up numerous contacts incoming!" Loki calls out. "Two squadrons this time. Mix of Flanker-Cs and Fulcrums, coming in from the northwest!

Huh, well, that could be a problem-

"Third set of contacts! Four contacts coming from the northeast. Signatures don't match anything I have on file!"

"We're back, Wild Cards!" Hammer Lead growls. "And this time we have the numbers!"

"All aircraft, surrender or die." You hear a new voice. "Corporations with no allegiance have no place in our territory."

"This is Hyperion airspace." Hammer Lead says venomously. "We won't be bullied by a mere four planes."

"You're flying over Belkan clay. Our birthright." The other voice retorts.

Well, looks like they practically gave away who they were. But still, coming in with only four planes against two numerically superior foes? Either they were really fucking suicidal or they were really confident in their planes and skills.

Either way, three opposing factions in the same operational area? This was going to turn ugly fast.

"Shit, what do we do?" Amy breathes.

"We take them on, of course!" Lara says.

"Yeah! A proper Ace never runs from a fight!" Dawn agrees.

"And we can impress Mr. Irons, too!" Thunder says.

"M-maybe we should just avoid this fight..." Lighting mumbles.

Wonderful. Looks like nobody could agree what to do.

Im@s is a convenient abbreviation for Idolm@ster, another game produced by Bandai Namco, which centers on managing girls into singing idols. The reason /aceg/ likes to aidorupost (think shitposting, but with idols) is because past AC games have featured jets with various idols on them.
AC:I has featured idol-based emblems for plane customization twice now, once with 8 bit emblems, and right now with higher quality ones

"Of course." Lilian says.

"I guess..." Lara sighs.

"Okay...." Thunder says, equally dejected.

Meanwhile, the cargo planes seem to realize that they're flying into some deep shit and begin to drop altitude and pick up speed. Not like they could do much else.

Thankfully for you, one squadron of Hyperion planes breaks off to engage the One Belka planes. That leaves one squadron trying to intercept you.

I say that as Bandai seems to prefer Gundam while for a while Namco mainly cared about thier 3d Fighters

Though with Cinderella girls and Million Live, they can get away with just pumping out Idols without putting quite as much depth as say the more normal I@M games.

But Namco's been money grubbing as of late (see the recent tales games and all their DLC)

Hard to say though if they keep up their chronic nerfing of things in some SRW games (mainly OG), that might not last long.

"Let's hang back a bit." You say to the rest of your flight. "Let's see how the Butterflies handle themselves."

"Aw, fine." Lara sighs.

"I am interested to see how much they've grown!" Lilian giggles.

"You all sound awfully at ease with this situation." Amy points out.

"Well, they at least have very nice planes." You shrug.

Up ahead, you can see the Butterflies charge ahead at the approaching squadron of Flanker-Cs. The Hyperion planes fire off an opening volley of missiles, but thanks to the Nosferatus' maneuverability and built in ECM, none of the missiles score a hit. The Butterflies, however, open up aggressively, diving right into the midst of the enemy formation like sharks in a school of fish. Pretty ballsy move, considering the extremely high chances of a midair collision. However, their gamble pays off, and the surprised Flanker-Cs break off to avoid them, scattering into smaller, isolated groups.

You see a pair of Flanker-Cs left all alone, and Thunder and Lightning are already off in pursuit. The Flanker-Cs try to shake them by performing a Cobra maneuver, but the pursuing Butterflies brake to match their speed, and tear both planes apart with their cannons.

Meanwhile, Dawn and Echo continue diving into the rest of the Hyperion squadron to prevent them from regrouping while Thunder and Lightning seek new targets. They seemed to be doing well so far, but they were still pretty heavily outnumbered.

Meanwhile, in the other engagement, you could see that the One Belka fighters have already shot down six Hyperion planes with no losses of their own. They were still occupied in a furball, but you had the nagging concern that the second Hyperion squadron wasn't going to hold out much longer.

You were confident that the Butterflies had things covered on their end. What concerned you was how easily the One Belka fighters were tearing through the Hyperion squadron.

"Okay, Wild Cards, we're going to dive into the second furball." You say. "We can't let them turn their attention to us."

"Got it!" Your wingmates affirm as they form up on you.

As you get closer to the furball, you vaguely wonder just what kind of birds the One Belka guys were flying, considering Loki couldn't ID them. Either they had to be really high end fighters like the Nosferatus, or the pilots were just that good. Either way, they were sure to be tough opponents.

the flanker transcends the category of 'shite'. It is in fact a genuine contender of a plane.

Its what happens when you build shit to counter other poeple's shit, you stop relying on your traditional shit as much and thus its stops being less shit.
>>
>>37895416
>>37895423
I'd be happy with either of them, though I must say the S/MTD lacking guns is a big turnoff from that variant, and the Flanker has slightly better agility stock, though we don't know how either perform or their stats.

You launch you missiles, watching them streak off into the furball. Your wingmates fire off their ow missiles as well, but apparently the OB pilots are pretty damn sharp. They immediately break off from what they're doing and pop countermeasures, flares and chaff ejecting furiously from their craft. Pretty much all of the missiles miss their mark or instead track onto the Fulcrums, knocking three of the remaining craft out of the sky.

Your own missiles, however, manage to home in on one of the OB planes and cannot be shaken off. Both missiles slam into the OB plane's left and right wings, snapping them off and leaving only the fuselage spinning in the air as the pilot ejects.

The remaining three fighters break off to get some additional distance from you. A missile shot from here was still possible, but maybe you could get a bit closer...

>>
Cipher we ain't.
>>
>>37896467
Damaged? Yes, but totaled? We've taken hits like this before, hell we took worse when we were fighting Pixy, so it would be utterly retarded of Merc to total a plane or kill someone from only rolling 6's
>>
>>37896458
>>37896432
Ladies, ladies, please. You are both irredeemable oxygen thieves that have shit taste in fictional women.
>>
>>37896476
So... our next adventure is being shot down with Lara. We both start walking back to base and start bonding even more due to our ordeals. Cue awkward mutual realization that they really really like each other more than just partners.
>>
>>37896481
Wait, reminder. When did we fight Pixy?
>>
>>37896460
You can probably assume that we did use chaff and flares, it just didn't work. They aren't 100 percent effective.
>>
>>37896476
Have you forgotten our early fights with our Falcon, our fight against the Demon Lord? We rolled worse in that and still came out of it instactish, so this would have to be a very sudden about-face for Merc to do that.

We lost an entire wing and stabilizer from a missile and had our hydraulics and controls heavily damaged by cannon fire with worse rolls and we managed to land in one piece, so this shouldn't be that bad, sure it will damage us, but shooting us down? Unless Merc looses his mind all of a sudden, not from this roll.
>>
>>37896481

Cipher, not Pixy.

>>
>>37896506
>>37896509
we flew using Pixy's plane at that time. Pixy's plane had the Solo wing Hidden Trait which allowed us to fly with one wing missing. We are not in Pixy's plane at the moment.
>>
>>37896508
I assume nothing, Merc just said all we did was try to fly away from the missiles and not even bother using countermeasures.

>>37896506
Cipher, that anon is getting them mixed up.

>>37896509
Yeah, this hit will probably be bad, but it shouldn't knock us out of the sky just from a single roll with 6, 6 being 1 above the DC of 5. It would be pretty weird of Merc to give us worse damage than we've had before when we rolled better now than before.
>>
>>37896523
>Pixy's plane had the Solo wing Hidden Trait which allowed us to fly with one wing missing
No it didn't, we got that trait after we managed that.
>>
>>37896517
No. I can't even use it.
>>
>>37896535
Have you reloaded the page?
>>
>>37896526
>not even bother using countermeasures.

Countermeasures are a mix of timing and luck. You don't just turn and shit out countermeasures like mad.
>>
>>37896523
>Pixy's plane had the Solo wing Hidden Trait which allowed us to fly with one wing missing.
Uhh nope, that event got us the trait when flying that plane, but as a result of our flying.
>>
>>37896545
We didn't even do that, all we did was >>37896427
>you pull your Falcon into a hard turn in an effort to avoid the incoming missiles

At that point is where you would dump chaff/flares as well as when the missile gets closer if it stays on track.
>>
javascript:quote('37896543');
Yeah. No effect. I'm going to try closing the browser, hopefully that helps.
>>
>>37896545
>You don't just turn and shit out countermeasures like mad.
...

That is the first method to defeat a incoming vampire, its also the safest and pretty reliable as the missile's guidance has to decide which track to follow, you resort to other methods if it sticks to you and doesn't follow the countermeasures.

Gee shouldn't you know these things considering your writing?
>>
>>37896557
That did it. Thanks for helping though, anon.
>>
>>37896568
The spamming of countermeasures is to get the timing right, not that it works otherwise. When you turn, you are also doing an aspect change. You need to confuse the track for the important split second. Modern seeker heads will ignore random countermeasures. Hell, they'll ignore most countermeasures period.
>>

>>37896427
As you turn, you deploy countermeasures in an attempt to throw off the missiles, but the buzzing of your missiles lock warnings tell you that they're still tracking you. Fortunately, you hard turn at least prevents them from getting a direct hit on you, and they instead explode on proximity fuse, shaking your Falcon violently from both the blast wave and the shrapnel.

>-5hp
>4hp remains!

"Damage report!" You hear Lara yell.

"Got a lot of hull breaches. Hydraulics are sluggish." You say as you check your diagnostics.

"One of my engines is losing power." Lara grunts.

"I'm afraid I've taken some damage as well." Lilian reports. "I'm still airworthy, though."

"Still green." Amy says. "Don't think any of them aimed for me."

However, possibly fortunately for you, the OB planes don't seem to be closing in, and keep their distance. You wonder why they aren't pressing their advantage when see additional contacts coming in.

"Don't worry, those are friendlies!" Loki says happily. "We've finally reached Atlas airspace!"

"This is Hades Squadron from Atlas." You hear a new voice. "Thought you could use some backup."

A squadron of F-16s come streaking in from the west. With one plane down and another damaged, the OB planes don't look to be in any mood to fight a fresh squadron and break off, leaving the combat zone. Similarly, the remains of the squadron the Butterflies had been savaging, about six Flanker Cs, break off.

"Damn, I wanted to see how that fight was gonna turn out. They seemed like pretty strong pilots!" Lara said a bit dejectedly. "What do you think Valk?"

>I'm pretty sure things would have ended badly for us.

>>37896568
Modern IR/radar guided weapons have significantly improved guidance systems that can defeat countermeasures pretty easily, especially if you cut them loose too early and allow the increasingly obvious CM to separate from the more constant IR source that is the aircraft.

There is a reason why significant research has been going in to reducing an aircraft's IR and radar signature: we're getting better at making seekers that ignore countermeasures.

Hence why you don't just shit them out too early, it makes it easier for, say, the newer Vympels or Sidewinders, to see the clear difference between the signature of the jet, and the signature of the flare that is rapidly losing airspeed and falling out of the sky.

That wasn't even the Falcon, that was the Phantom.

>We lost an entire wing and stabilizer from a missile
Not the wing, just the stabilizer. Even then, it was a hallucination or something, because that damage wasn't there after landing. That whole sequence was a plot hook.

Thankfully, the arrival of the Butterflies gives you a chance to change subject.

"Good job, girls." You say proudly. "Six kills between the lot of you? Not bad."

"It's thanks to the stuff you and Lara taught us!" Dawn says proudly.

"Your tactics were very effective." Echo comments.

"Aw, that's the stuff they teach everyone in fighter school! It's basic stuff!" Lara laughs as the praise starts to get to her head. "Right, Karla?"

Good work mate. It came out great. The jet looks amazing.

You messed up the perspective on the fighter. It doesn't align correctly towards infinity/vanishing point. Look at the fuel pods and the ladder.
Jeans crease horizontally, and tightly together at the knees and the where they flare out. Same for jackets. Creases and folds concentrated along the joints.

"It's all in the execution, and you did it perfectly." You grin. "There are a lot of pilots who aren't capable of teamwork of that caliber."

"Really? So are we like real aces now?" Dawn squeals.

"The way I figure it, you should all have five kills by now, so yeah, I think you're all proper Aces." You nod.

"Yes!" The Butterflies cheer.

"They grow up so fast...." Lilian sighs nostalgically.

"The time really flies." Amy agrees.

A few tense minutes later, and you all land at Atlas' base camp in the Round Table, the Pillar. As suggested by its namesake, the Pillar was a massive, gleaming white tower erected in the desert. Not only did the tower have a commanding view of the surrounding area, but it also acted as a giant solar collector to gather energy. It certainly cut down on the amount of fuel that needed to be shipped in.

"Welcome to Area B7R!" Irons greets you as you dismount your Falcon. "I know it's a bit hot, but I hope you'll all enjoy your stay here."

Sweet thread.

On another topic; why are so many of you guys shitting on Infinity? I've spent all of £25 on it (campaign ticket, a few mercenary contracts and recently hangar extensions) and I've cracked a Level 5 Wyvern already. Sure it's a bit of a grind at times when you reaaaaally want that one part/plane/upgrade but even on a shit game you can quite easily make at least 9000 and drops and challenges can rack up your fuel count a lot quicker than most people appear to think.
>>
>>37897052
the fact that you have to grind for playtime or pay for it destroyed any chance that game had at being decent.

IF I WANT TO PLAY YOUR "F2P" GAME, DON'T RESTRICT ME FROM PLAYING IT
>>
>>37897049
No, seriously. F-35A is about $110 mil at the current time, and we're not even in full rate production. Rafale was around $200 mil at last quote for Brazil.

The expensive thing about the F-35 is the program cost, not unit cost. Speaking of unit cost, anybody got the F-4's unit cost chart per year?
>>
>>37897052
I think most people just wanted a proper Ace Combat again.

Granted, Infinity is better than Assault Horizon, thanks to ditching dogfight mode, but the fuel thing really is hard to paint as a good thing from the outside looking in. Also, the short nature of the campaign is kinda bleeeeeeh.

That said, I wouldn't mind playing online some time with people I knew.
>>
>>37897074
It costs that much because of how many they are making and how much all the JSF countries subsidized it, you can't even begin to compare the prices of the two.
