Suffice to say, things were fairly dull, since for hundreds of miles around, all you could see was barren desert."I spy... something brown!" Lara chirps."IT'S SAND AND DIRT!" Amy yells. "BECAUSE EVERYTHING AROUND US IS NOTHING BUT SAND AND DIRT!""Jeez, you don't have to be so grumpy about it." Lara says quietly. "Oh, I think it's just the desert heat. Amy did grow up in the mountains, after all!" Lilian chuckles.Meanwhile, the Butterflies, who were also assisting in escort duty, were flying up ahead of the formation, occasionally doing a few aerial maneuvers to test each other and relieve their boredom. You, on the other hand, were busy reading all the various briefings while you set your plane on autopilot. The briefings were pretty dense, but you sort of got the gist. (cont)
>>37890719There were currently four major groups operating in the Round Table: Atlas Corporation, Hyperion Corporation, Dahl Corporation, and One Belka. The first three groups were corporations with mining interests in the area, and all have hired mercenaries to protect said interests from each other. Meanwhile, One Belka, which claims the Round Table is still part of Belka, constantly harasses the corps. In addition to these groups, there were numerous smaller, independent groups. Prospectors and treasure hunters seeking to strike it rich. However, your main concern was protecting Atlas' interests, equipment, and personnel, starting with this supply convoy. "Heads up, girls." Loki speaks up on the radio. "I'm picking up unidentified contacts to the north.""Enemy planes?" Lara asks, a bit too excited for her own good."Unknown. Could just be false returns." Loki says uncertainly. Man, for an AWACS, Loki could be really unhelpful at times. >Go check it out.>Send the Butterflies to check out.>Stick close to the convoy.>Other

>>37891526Finally, your radar clears up and you get solid contacts. Six incoming craft. Two Flanker-Cs and Four MiG-29s. No recognizable IFF code."Unidentified craft, this is Wild Card Four. You are approaching an escorted supply convoy. Reverse course or we will be forced to defend ourselves." You call out on an open channel."This is Hammer Leader. You are encroaching in Hyperion airspace." A rough voice grunts. "Turn back immediately and exit Area B7R or we will fire on you.""Aw, sounds like they're trying to pick a fight!" Lara chuckles. "Poor bastards."Well, it looks like you were in a standoff. From what you remember, under Atlas rules of engagement, practically anybody not a part of Atlas was fair game. However, you weren't too keen on escalating situations when you didn't have to.One thing you couldn't do was run, though. You see Dawn and Echo's Nosferatus quickly catching up behind you as you hit the throttle as well. Now, flying against missiles head on wasn't as suicidal was one would think. As long as you were quick witted enough, you could turn or dive sharply at the last second. Unless they were QAAMs, the missiles would be nowhere near maneuverable enough to keep up with you. >>37892847"I hope you girls know what you're doing..." Loki cautions. You don't respond, mostly because you were trying to concentrate. You can see the six missiles flying out, and you quietly look at your radar as the distance narrows. You mentally count down the seconds to impact and when the missiles are literally right on top of you, you finally make your move. You quickly push your stick forward, sending your Falcon's nose down towards the desert sand below. Lara does the exact same thing, and you see all six missiles pass harmless over your planes as they lose track and fail to reacquire."Fucking impossible!" You hear one of the Hammers gasp, apparently forgetting he was still on an open channel."Reinforcements, reinforcements! WHERE THE HELL ARE OUR REINFORCEMENTS!" Hammer Lead stammers.Heh, they were definitely pissing their pants now. You see the Flanker-Cs pull a sharp 180 turn as they try to flee the combat area. You shrug.Up ahead, you can see the Butterflies charge ahead at the approaching squadron of Flanker-Cs. The Hyperion planes fire off an opening volley of missiles, but thanks to the Nosferatus' maneuverability and built in ECM, none of the missiles score a hit. The Butterflies, however, open up aggressively, diving right into the midst of the enemy formation like sharks in a school of fish. Pretty ballsy move, considering the extremely high chances of a midair collision. However, their gamble pays off, and the surprised Flanker-Cs break off to avoid them, scattering into smaller, isolated groups. You see a pair of Flanker-Cs left all alone, and Thunder and Lightning are already off in pursuit. The Flanker-Cs try to shake them by performing a Cobra maneuver, but the pursuing Butterflies brake to match their speed, and tear both planes apart with their cannons.Meanwhile, Dawn and Echo continue diving into the rest of the Hyperion squadron to prevent them from regrouping while Thunder and Lightning seek new targets. They seemed to be doing well so far, but they were still pretty heavily outnumbered.Meanwhile, in the other engagement, you could see that the One Belka fighters have already shot down six Hyperion planes with no losses of their own. >>37896460You can probably assume that we did use chaff and flares, it just didn't work. They aren't 100 percent effective.
>>37896476Have you forgotten our early fights with our Falcon, our fight against the Demon Lord? We rolled worse in that and still came out of it instactish, so this would have to be a very sudden about-face for Merc to do that.We lost an entire wing and stabilizer from a missile and had our hydraulics and controls heavily damaged by cannon fire with worse rolls and we managed to land in one piece, so this shouldn't be that bad, sure it will damage us, but shooting us down? Unless Merc looses his mind all of a sudden, not from this roll.
>>37896481>>37896506Cipher, not Pixy.
Does anyone know what could be wrong with my quick reply window? It's stuck in the lower left of my screen.
>>37896511Can you drag it around?
>>37896506 >>37896509we flew using Pixy's plane at that time. Pixy's plane had the Solo wing Hidden Trait which allowed us to fly with one wing missing. We are not in Pixy's plane at the moment.
>>37896508I assume nothing, Merc just said all we did was try to fly away from the missiles and not even bother using countermeasures.>>37896506Cipher, that anon is getting them mixed up.>>37896509Yeah, this hit will probably be bad, but it shouldn't knock us out of the sky just from a single roll with 6, 6 being 1 above the DC of 5. It would be pretty weird of Merc to give us worse damage than we've had before when we rolled better now than before.
>>37896523>Pixy's plane had the Solo wing Hidden Trait which allowed us to fly with one wing missingNo it didn't, we got that trait after we managed that.
>>37896517No. I can't even use it.
>>37896535Have you reloaded the page?
>>37896526>not even bother using countermeasures.Countermeasures are a mix of timing and luck. You don't just turn and shit out countermeasures like mad.
>>37896523>Pixy's plane had the Solo wing Hidden Trait which allowed us to fly with one wing missing.Uhh nope, that event got us the trait when flying that plane, but as a result of our flying.
>>37896545We didn't even do that, all we did was >>37896427>you pull your Falcon into a hard turn in an effort to avoid the incoming missilesAt that point is where you would dump chaff/flares as well as when the missile gets closer if it stays on track.
>>37896545>You don't just turn and shit out countermeasures like mad....That is the first method to defeat a incoming vampire, its also the safest and pretty reliable as the missile's guidance has to decide which track to follow, you resort to other methods if it sticks to you and doesn't follow the countermeasures.Gee shouldn't you know these things considering your writing?
>>37896557That did it. Thanks for helping though, anon.
>>37896568The spamming of countermeasures is to get the timing right, not that it works otherwise. When you turn, you are also doing an aspect change. You need to confuse the track for the important split second. Modern seeker heads will ignore random countermeasures. Hell, they'll ignore most countermeasures period.
>>37896427As you turn, you deploy countermeasures in an attempt to throw off the missiles, but the buzzing of your missiles lock warnings tell you that they're still tracking you. Fortunately, you hard turn at least prevents them from getting a direct hit on you, and they instead explode on proximity fuse, shaking your Falcon violently from both the blast wave and the shrapnel. >-5hp>4hp remains!"Damage report!" You hear Lara yell. "Got a lot of hull breaches. Hydraulics are sluggish." You say as you check your diagnostics."One of my engines is losing power." Lara grunts. "I'm afraid I've taken some damage as well." Lilian reports. "I'm still airworthy, though.""Still green." Amy says. "Don't think any of them aimed for me."However, possibly fortunately for you, the OB planes don't seem to be closing in, and keep their distance. You wonder why they aren't pressing their advantage when see additional contacts coming in."Don't worry, those are friendlies!" Loki says happily. "We've finally reached Atlas airspace!""This is Hades Squadron from Atlas." You hear a new voice. "Thought you could use some backup."A squadron of F-16s come streaking in from the west. With one plane down and another damaged, the OB planes don't look to be in any mood to fight a fresh squadron and break off, leaving the combat zone. Similarly, the remains of the squadron the Butterflies had been savaging, about six Flanker Cs, break off."Damn, I wanted to see how that fight was gonna turn out. They seemed like pretty strong pilots!" Lara said a bit dejectedly. "What do you think Valk?">I'm pretty sure things would have ended badly for us.>Yeah, we could have totally taken them.>Who knows?>Other
>>37896568Modern IR/radar guided weapons have significantly improved guidance systems that can defeat countermeasures pretty easily, especially if you cut them loose too early and allow the increasingly obvious CM to separate from the more constant IR source that is the aircraft. There is a reason why significant research has been going in to reducing an aircraft's IR and radar signature: we're getting better at making seekers that ignore countermeasures.Hence why you don't just shit them out too early, it makes it easier for, say, the newer Vympels or Sidewinders, to see the clear difference between the signature of the jet, and the signature of the flare that is rapidly losing airspeed and falling out of the sky.
>>37896605>>Who knows? The only way to know was to fight.
>>37896605>>I'm pretty sure things would have ended badly for us."We have to get better!"
>>37896605>Who knows? They were tough though.
>>37896610Not to mention that rearward launched flares are just plane slower. Those are thrown right out.
>>37896605>I'm pretty sure things would have ended badly for us.>>37896509>Have you forgotten our early fights with our Falcon, our fight against the Demon Lord? That wasn't even the Falcon, that was the Phantom.>We lost an entire wing and stabilizer from a missileNot the wing, just the stabilizer. Even then, it was a hallucination or something, because that damage wasn't there after landing. That whole sequence was a plot hook.
>>37896605>>Who knows?Remember that dead men's words hold no meaning here. And, considering they're HADES squadron...
>>37896605>>I'm pretty sure things would have ended badly for us.
>>37896605>>I'm pretty sure things would have ended badly for us."I think I'd rather not lose any of you trying to find out."
>>37896605>I'm pretty sure things would have ended badly for us.Our planes are too old for this shit.
>>37896605>>"Considering how things were going for us at the end, it would've been a bittersweet victory, at best."
>>37896605>Who knows?Lets just be glad we got lucky and didn't have to find out the hard way.
On the whole...today wasn't horrible, but it certainly could've gone a bit better.
>>37896671Makes you wonder where the hell they got those pilots from doesn't it?
>>37896634Then there's the advent of modern SAMs, mostly out of Russia. Those crazy fuckers are making some legitimately scary weapon systems. But to answer >>37896568, yes it is something I read about fairly regularly. Doesn't necessarily always apply to story writing since the focus is less about realism and more about cool stuff happening though.
>>37896683Long live Belka.
Gyah! Ran down the wire with this! So I'll just post what I have so far on this piece. Much better and cleaner version hopefully by next thread!
we are totally going to have to call them out on placing a higher value on belkan clay rather than belkan blood at some point.
>>37896718I like it!
>>37896718Great job, Pix!
>>37896605"I'm pretty sure things would have ended badly for us." You sigh. "Besides, I'd rather not risk losing any of you to find out.""Awwwww, you really do care!" Lara coos."It seems you're not quite so stoic after all." Lilian chuckles."Yeah, you're just a big ol softie!" Amy chortles."S-shut up!" You grunt, your face suddenly feeling hot. Thankfully, the arrival of the Butterflies gives you a chance to change subject. "Good job, girls." You say proudly. "Six kills between the lot of you? Not bad.""It's thanks to the stuff you and Lara taught us!" Dawn says proudly. "Your tactics were very effective." Echo comments."Aw, that's the stuff they teach everyone in fighter school! It's basic stuff!" Lara laughs as the praise starts to get to her head. "Right, Karla?">Yeah, don't get too cocky, kids.>It's all in the execution, and you did it perfectly.>Other
>>37896718damn nice work>>37896756>It's all in the execution, and you did it perfectly.>That being said>Yeah, don't get too cocky, kids.
>It's all in the execution, and you did it perfectly, but don't get too cocky
>>37896756>>It's all in the execution, and you did it perfectly.
>>37896718Now you just need to add Jager popping his head in being all>dat ass>>37896756>>37896764This.
>>37896756>It's all in the execution, and you did it perfectly.
>>37896756>Yeah, don't get too cocky, kids.Pride goeth before the fall.
>>37896764>>37896756Pretty much this. We DID nail them with a classic maneuver, after all. Excellent basics are the foundation, but you can never rest on your laurels.
>>37896781Which reminds me... what is Karla's greatest assets?Hair? Death Glare? Legs? Dat Ass?... I dont' think it's her boobs
>>37896718Good work mate. It came out great. The jet looks amazing. You messed up the perspective on the fighter. It doesn't align correctly towards infinity/vanishing point. Look at the fuel pods and the ladder. Jeans crease horizontally, and tightly together at the knees and the where they flare out. Same for jackets. Creases and folds concentrated along the joints.SEATTLE SEACUCKS: [X] BTFO
>>37896769>It's all in the execution, and you did it perfectly, but don't get too cockyThe kids are impressionable, lets mix praise with some words of caution.
>>37896756>>37896769>It's all in the execution, and you did it perfectly, but don't get too cocky
>>37896791All of them, though she does have a great rack.
>>37896791Honestly, I'd imagine she has piercing eyes.
>>37896791All of the above... and below...When we get back to base we're hauling Jager off to a bar, getting some drinks and then taking him back to our place.
>>37896791It's Karla, of course she has dem legs, dat ass, dose tits and that gaze. And its all for Jager.
>>37896791Well, personally I think it's the eyes. They're really expressive, despite having a rather stoic face.
>>37896795Thanks for the critique, I suppose when you start not even 3 hours ago and blitz it like a madman you miss things!
>>37896832You said you were going to clean up and refine it, so I figured it was worth bothering with. I mean, fuck, I just do quick sketches and reaction faces or cheesecake because I don't have the time to do something cool like yours.
>>37896791As you can see, a lot of it is in her legs.>>37896756"It's all in the execution, and you did it perfectly." You grin. "There are a lot of pilots who aren't capable of teamwork of that caliber.""Really? So are we like real aces now?" Dawn squeals."The way I figure it, you should all have five kills by now, so yeah, I think you're all proper Aces." You nod."Yes!" The Butterflies cheer."They grow up so fast...." Lilian sighs nostalgically. "The time really flies." Amy agrees.A few tense minutes later, and you all land at Atlas' base camp in the Round Table, the Pillar. As suggested by its namesake, the Pillar was a massive, gleaming white tower erected in the desert. Not only did the tower have a commanding view of the surrounding area, but it also acted as a giant solar collector to gather energy. It certainly cut down on the amount of fuel that needed to be shipped in. "Welcome to Area B7R!" Irons greets you as you dismount your Falcon. "I know it's a bit hot, but I hope you'll all enjoy your stay here."<<MISSION ACCOMPLISHED>>3 MiG-29: 1100 x 3 = 33002 Su-30: 1200 x 2 x 0.5 = 12001 S-32 ACE: 3000 x 1 = 3000Total = 7500Total Treasury: 34800"It's a pleasure, sir." You smile as you shake his hand. You get the feeling things are only going to get more difficult and exciting from here.>And that's it for tonight! As always, next thread is next week. Don't forget Cyberpunk Idols on Saturday and PJ WItches on Sunday!
>>37896932Thanks for running!
>>37896932Thanks Merc. Crazy thread is crazy. And to that drawfiend, I hope you make good on your promise, man. Pixel, Manga, and Mudhen are counting on you!
>>37896932>Total Treasury: 34800Oh my god its not 35000 haha fuck.Next time, make sure we get all the high value targets
>>37896932thanks for the thread Merc, just in time, threads on page 10
>>37896946I don't think our wingmates would mind if we bummed 200 off of them.
>>37896932Can we mow some yards or something to make up that last 200?
>>37896932Fun run, Merc, thanks for allocating processing power to run so many quests.
>>37896946>>37896956why would we need that extra $200? both the Flanker and Eagle cost 30k flat
>>37896956I dread to know what they might extract from us if we do that.Lillian might be a safe choice though? i imagine she wouldn't humiliate us too much.If it was Amy, she'd probably make us clean her plane and praise it over our bird.Lara... Um, make Karla go on something that's totally not a date.
>>37896932All right! Just another 1,200 to go before we can get an F-35!
>>37896973U wot m8?the F-35 was like 50k
>>37896964Duh! Where else will he allocate his 24-core processors?
>>37896972I..I honestly don't think it'll be that intense man. It's pretty much just like asking someone 'Can I borrow $10, I'll pay you back when I can."
>>37896973What a terrible troll to threaten
>>37896980I was just being sarcastic. I'm sure that the girls might extract something non monetary at the same time as spotting Karla a loan. If only to entertain themselves
>>3789697760k. We sell the F-16 for it.>>37896981You know the F-35 is good.
>>37896986Pretty sure we are keeping the F-16 as a backup.
>>37896986It's ugly as fuck. I'd reject it on that basis alone.
>>37896980What, so you don't charge interest in the form of trivial things for your amusement?
>>37896946>>37896956What are you guys smoking? The F-15 is $30,000, see http://pastebin.com/TRJicPLh>>37896986>60k. We sell the F-16 for it.Yeah nah cunt, fuck off with that shit. We're keeping the Falcon and getting an Eagle.
>>37896998How can you resist this belly? I like it better than Russian planes, but I'm a sucker for the smoothness of 5th gens.
>>37896986You. Leave. Now.
>>37897012What, mad that there's no point in keeping the F-16?
>>37897010>but I'm a sucker for the smoothness of 5th gens. Then why are you in love with a overpriced gen 4.5 whore?>>37896986We're not selling the Falcon, and we're not buying the F-35, we're getting the Eagle and keeping the Falcon as a backup plane.
>>37896978So that's what Mouse is powering with that 1200w PSU.
>>37897016Hey troll, fuck off.
>>37897010It looks like its melting.>>37897016How are you this stupid? We've been over this at least 3 times in every thread the past 5 threads...
>>37897021>Then why are you in love with a overpriced gen 4.5 whore? But I don't like the Rafale...No, seriously, F-35's a 5th gen through and through. And definitely not overpriced. It's almost half the price of the Rafale.
>>37897023don't mock, a 1200w PSU means you can run witcher 3 at 4k with the right equipment
>>37897041>No, seriously, F-35's a 5th gen through and through. And definitely not overpriced. It's almost half the price of the Rafale.pfthahahahahahahahaha oh man, please, my sides can't take much morebut seriously, fuck off.
Sweet thread. On another topic; why are so many of you guys shitting on Infinity? I've spent all of £25 on it (campaign ticket, a few mercenary contracts and recently hangar extensions) and I've cracked a Level 5 Wyvern already. Sure it's a bit of a grind at times when you reaaaaally want that one part/plane/upgrade but even on a shit game you can quite easily make at least 9000 and drops and challenges can rack up your fuel count a lot quicker than most people appear to think.
>>37897052the fact that you have to grind for playtime or pay for it destroyed any chance that game had at being decent.IF I WANT TO PLAY YOUR "F2P" GAME, DON'T RESTRICT ME FROM PLAYING IT
>>37897049No, seriously. F-35A is about $110 mil at the current time, and we're not even in full rate production. Rafale was around $200 mil at last quote for Brazil. The expensive thing about the F-35 is the program cost, not unit cost. Speaking of unit cost, anybody got the F-4's unit cost chart per year?
>>37897052I think most people just wanted a proper Ace Combat again.Granted, Infinity is better than Assault Horizon, thanks to ditching dogfight mode, but the fuel thing really is hard to paint as a good thing from the outside looking in. Also, the short nature of the campaign is kinda bleeeeeeh. That said, I wouldn't mind playing online some time with people I knew.
>>37897074It costs that much because of how many they are making and how much all the JSF countries subsidized it, you can't even begin to compare the prices of the two.
>>37897081>That said, I wouldn't mind playing online some time with people I knew. But then they would run out of fuel...
>>37897074And thats AFTER they frankensteined its production out across the US and parts of europe. The price is only sky high because of politics. You can make planes a LOT cheaper when people aren't clamoring MAKE THIS IN MY STATE AND SHIP IT BECAUSE I WANT CHER MOOLAY
>>37897081Aren't they making a new campaign? Or extending it?
>>37897101I couldn't tell you, haven't been following too closely
if we save up for another 3 or 4 missions we might be able to jump straight to the F-22 or Pak -FA . i'm not sure if that's actual a good idea, but if we save up and go straight for the best planes we would save a decent amount of money.
>>37897104Swear I read an /aceg/ thread a while back where someone posted an article that confirmed they were working on it at the very least.
>>37897088Okay then. Two years ago the F-16 Block 50 was sold to Turkey for ~$100 mil a pop.
>>37897197nah, we would need like 7-8 missions to get anywhere near them, and our F-16 is already not cutting the mustard.we need to get the F-15, then we can save up for the Black Widow.
>>37897197Remember, we're going YF-23 route. We probably need to upgrade once before getting it, but we could skip for it if we felt the need to. This upgrade could even be upgrading the airframe to XL or whatever the other one was.
>>37897216We'll get the F-15, then go for the S/MTD or the Kai+ upgrade, then we get the Widow.
>>37897197They both cost $80k, we have $34k, and also, we're not going for either of those, we're going for the YF-23 after getting the Flanker or Eagle and upgrading them.
