Old thread >>37991688

Yeah an evening off sounds really good. You open the door you can hear the girls voices coming from, Dev, Lirael and Rainya look up as you enter. They’re all playing games, Dev looks tired, like he just got back from work.

“Hi everyone” you say “mind if I join you?”

“Of course not” scoffs Dev “the more the merrier.”
---
It’s later that night and you’re getting ready for bed. Rainya gives you a quick kiss as she’s just about to leave your room “Sure you don’t want company tonight?” she says with a suggestive smirk.

“I’m going to be meeting Kae tonight” you say “so really I need to be asleep for that.”

“Shee!” says Rainya, in mock-outrage “Clearly that’s what I was saying, not whatever is going on in your mind!”

“Clearly” you say dryly “Now are you going to leave? Or get into bed?”

Rainya giggles, blowing you a kiss as she leaves “I should be jealous y’know” she says “You dreaming all night of another girl.” She wiggles her hips as she walks out of your room.

Sleep is a long time coming.
>>
You’re in your dream realm, it’s changed, there’s far less of Dust Town, and far more ocean. You walk over the ocean surface as you ponder what to say in your conversation with Kae, she seemed pretty scared after all...

“I almost didn’t come” says a voice behind you, you turn to see Kae, standing on the ocean surface as you are, some distance away. She continues “You told me you were getting some power Shee, not becoming....that.”

How do you respond?

General
>I’m sorry I scared you
>What I’m becoming, will probably be very strange
>Other (what?)

Chaoswell
>How can I shut it down?
>Can you draw the soldiers away
>Other (what?)

Uhm. Pally.
We had arranged a meeting at a club, because Kae didn't want to come into our dreams.
Are you tired? No offense, but you've been making alot of continuity errors those last two runs.

Good point

I'll put something in the next update.
>>
>>37995829
Errr... I thought we had agreed to meet Kae at 9 at some club because shadow tentacles made her not wanna dream meet.
>>
>>37995829
Kae had told us to meet her in a club, I could see her meeting us here afterall, but there isn't really any reason Shee wouldn't have gone to the club first?

>Don't worry, 'that' is not what I was becoming, it was merely a gift I was given to kill that vampire, although I will become something very strange most likely
>How can I shut it down?
>>
>>37995911
Honestly, consideing this slip up is kinda big, it'd be better to retcon this first post than trying to fix it.
>>
>>37995951
I feel sort of inclined to agree, it makes a pretty huge difference, and in difference to the other Kae slip up, there isn't really any way to explain it away, since Shee wouldn't have known even if Kae had changed her mind.

I mean the Rainya bit was cute, so it was definitly not a waste to write it...
>>
ok, new post coming that retcons previous, please keep voting on dialogue options

[This replaces previous update]

Yeah an evening off sounds really good. You open the door you can hear the girls voices coming from, Dev, Lirael and Rainya look up as you enter. They’re all playing games, Dev looks tired, like he just got back from work.

“Hi everyone” you say “mind if I join you?”

“Of course not” scoffs Dev “the more the merrier.”
---
It’s later that night and you’re out at the club that Kae gave you the address for, you’ve come alone, Kae seemed nervous enough already, no sense in outnumbering her.

“I almost couldn’t come” says a voice behind you, you turn to see Kae, standing behind you. She continues “I got caught up in a meeting with the Governors aides and was wondering if I should just send you a text to tell you to go to sleep and meet you in your dreams instead”

“Well you didn’t seem to want to before” you observe “though I’m not sure what the problem is.

“You told me you were getting some power” says Kae “not becoming....that.”

“I’m not becoming that” you say “That was just a power I was given to” even in a noisy club you’re not sure you can speak openly “deal with that vampire, that’s not what I am, just a transformation power. What I am becoming is probably something very strange.”

“Alright” says Kae, looking a little relieved.

“And I’m sorry I scared you” you say “I asked for help, but I didn’t know the form it would take ok?”

“It’s ok” Kae reassures you “I wasn’t scared, I was just surprised is all.” Yeah that doesn’t sound like the truth, so you let it pass.

“This chaoswell” you say instead “any ideas on how to shut it down?”

Kae bites her lower lip “Not really” she admits “They’re difficult to create, and difficult to get rid of safely, without a lock of backlash oh sure almost any chaos mage *could* get rid of it, but he’d die in the process. The spells to get rid of them take time.”
>>
“And” you say moodily “If this is a military thing, they’ll just build another one, right?”

“They would” says Kae “But if the chaoswell is destroyed or its power drained, building one in the same area, or even within a hundred miles or more is far harder, they’d build another, but a long way from Hive 39.” Yeah but at least then it would be some other persons problem...

Well that wasn’t as helpful as you’d hoped. What do you discuss now?

Not that anon, but, are you serious?
There is a dude, whos mind was fucked with to make sure he doesn't say a thing.
There are observation measures put into his mind, and it doesn't seem obvious to you they would activate at someone saying the thing?
Really?
>>
>>37996412
We had been told that there were mental defenses in Quinn's mind that were laying dormant and that their sole purpose was to inhibit Quinn from communicating his knowledge of the vampire to others. Saying the name out loud in his mind right next to those defenses is a bad idea.

Idea for getting rid of chaoswell: kidnap a chaos mage, mindfuck them until they are our puppet so that they drain the well and die.

No need to ask the five for favours and be made to do stupid shit, no need to die ourself. And Baalzi will probably really like the plan, so more awesome shit from him.
>>
>>37996519
I actually like this plan. But that assumes the other four can't stop him before he does it.
>>
So asking all the questions

I realise there seems to be a tie on the question about keeping them from the city, so I'm going with it.

Please roll 1d20+7 Fellowship, 4 rolls required.
>>
>>37996519
I like it.

>>37996544
>>
Rolled 6 + 7 (1d20 + 7)

>>37996544
>>37996519
Only problem is, draining the well takes still time, and the other mages will just stop him.
>>
Rolled 15 + 7 (1d20 + 7)

>>37996544
ROLLAN!
>>
>>37996563
>>37996536
Ok, yeah. That could be a problem.

What if we dealt with all the mages? We don't have to mindfuck all of them, we could just kill most of them in their sleep. Maybe mindfuck some of the soldiers to do it for us.
>>
>>37996586
Yeah, if we take out all the other magical sensitives at the base, then no one should realise that the one guy we mindfucked and left alive is slowly destroying the well.

That still means we have to take out a hive of chaos mages though.
>>
>>37996586
Problem is if we kill them, then the whole plan stops working, we'd need to keep everyone else from interrupting the mage and then we enter Plan Z: Total Destruction.
>>
>>37996586
I'm pretty sure the ritual takes acouple of hours. And there's no guarantee any part of that plan wouldn't go wrong at some stage and then we'd have to deal with the whole base.
>>
>>37996633
I doubt the muscle will understand what the mage is doing. It may very well look like routine maintenance to them.
>>
>>37996633
But if all the mages are gone, then nobody would stop our brainwashed mage(s) because they won't know what he's doing. Just have him lie and say he's keeping the chaoswell stabilized.
>>
>>37996625
That's also assuming that the draining process isn't a noticeable change. The soldiers might be trained to recognize the process of draining to prevent a traitorous mage from doing exactly this, or they might get freaked out and one of them goes to get the other (dead) mages to help.
>>
>>37996666
The fae.
>>
>>37996669
Why wouldn't the soldiers notice that most of the guys that are supposed to be working on the well aren't there?
>>
>>37996669
>>37996666
They will wonder where the other mages are.
And in aworld with teleportation, someone responsible will show up in minutes, if not less.
>>
>>37996675
Appears to not actually be there. If we can confirm that he's not actually there, then this plan looks miles better than the others suggested so far.

If he is there, then we need to come up with something new.
>>
>>37996696
He is definitly there, just because we haven't seen them in a cursory glance at the place, doesn't mean he isn't there.
>>
So taking out the base and mindfucking a mage. Using teleport jamming to stop screams for help - Don't know how we'd jam the soldiers' radio though. Capture one mage, mindfuck him into closing the portal.

It's a pretty hefty task though given Shee's demigod status, I'm almost tempted to say it's doable.
>>
>>37996731
Maybe we should ask Kae?
>>
>>37996743
We'd need to buff up our Telepathy though, as it is, I doubt our Dominate could overcome a experienced mages defense enough.
>>
>>37996743
That's an awful lot of likely difficult checks to pass. On top of how many holes are already in this plan.
>>
>>37996663
We don't have to be there, just dominate the mage establish mind link to control remotely and gtfo. We could also plant explosives around while we are there to create chaos and give our mage time in case something goes wrong.
>>
>>37996775
I have to agree, that plan might fall to pieces at first contact with real action
>>
>>37996781
We'd have to be there to plant the explosives then.
>>
>>37996696
>Appears to not actually be there
It was stated that you need a noble fae in order to maintain a chaoswell. The fae might have a link to the well that would alert him if someone starts draining it as well.

>>37996743
If we're taking out the base anyway then the plan loses it's main appeal.
>>
>>37996775

How well do WE trust the dice?

Currently I would not trust them at all.
>>
>>37996805
The main appeal for me is doing away with the well without us dying in order to do so.
>>
>>37996803
I meant there when the mage does the ritual.
>>
>>37996743
Also assuming he even can cast while his mind takes a backseat, that another problem.
And then there is
>Ordering them to do something against their values or beliefs, or to self-harm may end the power.
Telling him to kill himself will require a Corruption check, and if we fail that one, we are fucked.
>>
Seriously, why is everyone so resistant to just asking the 4 what favors they could do for us? We wouldn't even have to take them up on an offer right away.
>>
>>37996839
We already have one plan that wouldn't risk our death and one that wouldn't be more of a risk than this one if we have to take out the base anyway.
>>
>>37996840
The ritual takes longer than just a couple of minutes. Any distraction we create with explosives would likely be dealt with before it was finished.
>>
>>37996845
No idea, really no idea. I think this is the best thing to do right now
>>
>>37996845
We would have to, actually. If we get the offer and refuse, they don't offer again.
>>
>>37996888
Then they don't offer it. It beats the hell out of all of these extremely risky plans.
>>
Damn, you might not be able to stop this happening. “Can the beastmen be kept from the city?” you say “I mean surely the commanders or whatever don’t want them wandering off all the time?”

“No they don’t” says Kae, a scowl on her face “But obedient as they are, Beastmen have conveniently short-term memories at times, they’d need constant supervision to keep them from sneaking off, and the fae lords who run the army believe that is, and I quote *not worth the trouble*. As long as they’re all there when needed for an attack, their officers just don’t care, oh sure any caught leaving without permission will be harshly punished, but otherwise a blind eye is turned.”

“So nothing then” you say glumly “Well, thanks for letting me know.”

“Well there is a way” says Kae

“Really?” you ask “How?”

“You want to keep them out of Dust Town?” Kae asks, you nod

“Then put up a line of stakes ten metres or so apart all around Dust Town” says Kae “and on every stake put a beastman head, you’ll probably need to replace them every now and then. They are kinda dumb, but they’ll get the picture eventually.” She delivers this advice in a casual manner and drains her drink, “want another?”

“Sure” you say weakly, anything to give you time enough to get that idea out of your head.

When Kae returns you say “If the chaoswell can’t be destroyed, can it be, I dunno, turned into something else?”

Kae looks thoughtful “Well if the Sands, or another ancient fae or god claimed it, taking control back would probably be seen as too much hassle and they’d build a new one elsewhere – a long way away, building chaoswells close together is almost impossible, but good luck convincing a fae that old to help you, and if you found a god able to do it, they’d immediately be announcing themselves as an enemy of the fae.” Still...
>>
“Isn’t there anything you could do?” you ask “please Kae, I’m at my wits end here.”

Kae looks thoughtful, and doesn’t speak for a long time, then says quietly, so quietly you almost miss in in the club noise, even with the two of you sat in a booth together “Kaelyn Reaper can’t help you, but maybe an unknown fae can.”

“What do you mean?” you ask “Another fae?”

“If I was there” says Kae, her words coming faster “And there was no witnesses, I might be able to draw off just enough of its power to make it useless as a Worldgate.”

“I thought you said you couldn’t do that” you point out.

“At a distance no” says Kae, a smile slowly appearing on her face “but in person, I might just be able to weaken it enough. I’d need to be disguised of course, and we might need to get some help dealing with the guards, hah I’d be like a secret agent or something, what would be my agent name? The Silken Whisper? No, the Cunning Fox!” Kae babbles on in this vein whilst you consider the idea.

If Kae can take down the chaoswell without you having to beg the Five (or the Four) for help, or risking your brain imploding, that’s good, but she doesn’t seem to be taking this very seriously.

Your response?

>Kae, it’ll be a pleasure working with you
>This won’t work
>Other (what?)
>>
>>37996963
>Kae, it’ll be a pleasure working with you
Now that sounds like a plan.
>>
>>37996963
>Kae, it’ll be a pleasure working with you
>What exactly would you need to do, how close do you need to get and is it visible what you are doing?

We get rid of it, and it actually stays a beneficial thing by aiding farming, thats exactly what we needed, now we only need to keep Kae in line.

Grab a Chaos mage, have Kae take his face, draw out energy, and get out.
>>
>>37996881
Yes, but a little more time could be enough if the mage is close to finishing the ritual when he is about to be found. I meant it as a way to gain a few more minutes if necessary. We could also make a attack by remote controlled robots if that time is not enough. If i remember correctly our facility had robots and that huge supercomputer to control them.

She doesn't seem to take this seriously enough to pull this off, how would we disguise her, and what reason would there be for her new persona, if we can disguise her, have for being there? Not to mention we'd still have to deal with some guards.
>>
>>37996963
>Kae, it’ll be a pleasure working with you

Well, looks like we will need to then giver her a more complete view of our secrets, in something like this will be hard to keep stuff secret.

>>37997225

>>37997256
It wasn't a terrible plan, but it wasn't a very good one either. This one is definitly better.
If it makes you feel better, we probably still get to brain rape a few people.
>>
>>37997288
Brain rape wasnt the ends it was the means. This one makes me worry about Kae.
>>
“Kae” you say with a smile, offering a hand for her to shake “It’ll be a pleasure working with you” Kae shakes you hand as you add “Now, details, how close do you need to be, how long will this take, and will anyone be able to tell what you’re doing?”

Kae grins back at you and says “In order: I’d need to be standing right on top of it, I’d need about 15 minutes minimum, but the longer I have the more energy I can draw off, and any chaos mage or fae close enough to sense the chaoswell will know what I’m doing.”

Not exactly what you’d hoped, but still...

“So are we going tomorrow?” asks Kae “And what’s he plan?”

“Ah....” you say. You recall that tomorrow you’ll be meeting with Tenleys black market contact in the afternoon, that shouldn’t take that long so in theory you might have tomorrow night free. But you haven’t decided on a plan or talked about this with your friends yet.

The same thing we just asked Kae. How can they help us close this chaoswell.
>>
>>37997439
It is actually a pretty big deal.
They don't ask for little stuff. Even the relatively minor favour wer asked from King last time required us to do something really difficult and problematic.
This is a big facour, they will ask big stuff from us. And it will always be stuff we wouldn't want to do.

>>37997462
They won't tell us how to do it, unless we agree to their deal.
>>
>>37997447
Not the guy, but one thing I can think of.

Ask Jaggantha for the ability to consume the well energies and survive.

Because it'd be kind of cool.

I still think it's better to just go with the Kae plan, no alterations though.

We can already do that. It'd make us popular with him, but he wouldn't help us do it.

Obfuscating Kae would be paramount.
Ensuring our allies safety is also a priority.

Kae is a noble fae, she can obfuscate herself pretty damn well.
Something like "ensure our allies safety" isn't how this works. This will give us something specific right then and will ask us to do something in return.
They can't act except through us. So it will always be giving us an ability.
>>
>>37997499
If that's true, why not have Kae disguise Shea too and then they can both siphon the energy out of it.
>>
Going to need to introduce her to our team too.

Take out the mages. Use illusions to keep up appearances, fuck with well then leave basically?

Dev sadly has no stealth with a 2m mech.

Rainya, kae and lireal?
>>
>>37997474
I think the deal with the king went down nicely, and see no reason to avoid another.

>And it will always be stuff we wouldn't want to do.
What makes you so sure. You make it sound like you know it will be really bad, certainly.

Getting put a little out of our comfort zone could prove interesting.
>>
>>37997536
Possibly, depends on what exactly this siphoning off energy is.
Might be just using "Drain Power" in which case Shee could do it too.
>>
>>37997553
We shouldn't bring anyone else. That's just more ways for it to go wrong. Not to mention we'd be introducing Kae to the entirety of Hive 39's rebel cell.
>>
>>37997563
You're not really even making an argument anymore.
>>
>>37997563
No, fuck that shit.
I'm all for getting put out of your comfort zone, but I won't vote for having Shee act like a retard to do so. Pally can manage putting us out of our comfort zone just fine.

And considering al the things I could think of King and Ichor could ask us, no thank you.

>What makes you so sure.
Because they won't ask us to do shit we would do anyway. Obviously.
>>
>>37997604

Whats the range on gestalt? I know liraels bonus could be very useful. She also has skills Shee does not have.
>>
>>37997610
Devil's advocate here (hurr), but the original deal we made with the King wasn't acting like a retard. It was asserting our plan's superiority over Six's 40k General retardation. And it worked splendidly.
>>
>>37997553
I think just Shee and Kae might be best.
Maybe Lirael, for her superior mindfuckery powers.
I don't see anything Dev and Rainya could add here, and Rainyas stealth isn't nearly good enough for this.
>>
>>37997645
Having Lirael near Kae is a bad idea too.
>>
Maybe we could take Assumption of Authority and just march in.
>>
“We’ll go tomorrow evening” you tell Kae “be ready and I’ll text you a time and location tomorrow” Kae nods “Alright!” bouncing in her seat a little.

“As for the plan” you say “There’s a bunch of chaos mages there, we’ll take them out one at a time and when they’re all dealt with, you can take on the appearance of one of them and walk right up to the chaoswell and close it down, no one will be any the wiser.”

“Sounds simple enough” says Kae “I know just the spells I need to get ready, and I have just the outfit to wear.”

Well, at least she is enthusiastic....

“Should I bring anything else?” asks Kae “I mean, summoned monsters aren’t really my thing, but if you want I’ll see what I can do...”

“Ah what is your thing?” you ask “magically speaking?”

Kae rolls her eyes “mystical martial arts” she says “I mastered Dragon style and I’m learning Water style - at my fathers insistence. The spells I’m best at are personal protection and force spells that affect a wide area, I think he’s paranoid or something, but the martial arts training is a lot of fun.”

Ok, well that could be useful...

Anything else you want to discuss with Kae?

>>
>>37997652
Actually, the part about that mission that worked great was the part that he din't ask us to do.
He asked us to make sure we go with our plan. Our plan was actually completly unnecessary.
The part that mattered was us dominating Six and the mech, both things King didn't have any influence over at all.
It worked out because we worked smartly around a bad situation, not becaus ethe situation wasn't bad.

And that was a minor Favour.

It was stated that using our plan allowed us to retreat earlier than we would have had we stuck to Six's plan, which reduced the casuality rate.

Us calling reatreat early enough because we felt sur they couldn't stop it anymore, was what helped.
Our actual plan wasn't even used.

>>
“Could you disguise the both of us” you say “so we could maybe, I dunno, just walk up to them?”

“Easily” says Kae “my disguises aren’t perfect, but another mage would have to have a fairly powerful detection spell ready to beat them, which if they’re spending all day building a chaoswell, they probably won’t.”

Ok, that’s something...

“And after that” you say “if we get close, could you find the local fae?”

“Again easy” says Kae “However....” Uh oh...

“However he’ll probably be able to sense me too” says Kae “Not who I am, but that another fae is there, and my approximate location, sorry Shee, but hiding from other fae is much harder.” Well, that’s a complication, but not an impossible one...

“So he wouldn’t recognise you” you ask “through a disguise?”

“Oh no” says Kae “But he’d know I was another fae.”

Hmm, moving on...

“So if we get you to the chaoswell” you say “and you drain its energies, are you the only one that can do this, or could someone else, like a psychic do it?”

Kae nods, looking thoughtful “In theory yes” she says “It’s just a lot of energy to handle, mortals, well, no offence but you’re so fragile, one mistake and it could burn a psychic to a cinder, as a noble fae I can easily handle a lot of magical energy without getting hurt.”

So could you, you think, probably.

“So uh, can you teach mystical martial arts?” you ask, as casually as you can.

“Oh sure” says Kae, nodding her head “anyone that has some magical or psychic abilities could learn it. Dragon is mostly unarmed techniques and Water uses unarmed attacks and the sword, Fire uses axes and-” Kae gives you a rundown on some of the different styles, ending with “Wood is good for using two or more weapons, but I really know the most about Dragon and Water, the others I don’t know myself, but I’ve seen them used, even fought against them in matches sometimes.”

It just seems to interfere with the storytelling. People vote for what makes them more powerful rather than what would be IC or what might lead down a more interesting path.

Not so much here but definitely when it comes to things like earning favor or choosing aspects.

No we aren't, not even close.

That is also objectively untrue. We have very very foten rejected easy favour for choices we found inappropriate. And the Aspects we choose are by far not the most mechanically optimal.

>That’s enough, just have fun the rest of the evening

Maybe next time we'll take family aspect.
>>
>>37998120
>Not so much here but definitely when it comes to things like earning favor or choosing aspects.
I can'tt hink of a time we took a choice just for the favour it gives.
I can think of many many times we rejected a easy favour choice because it wasn't the path we wanted to go with the character.

>People vote for what makes them more powerful rather than what would be IC or what might lead down a more interesting path.
That sound a lot to me like
>People vote for things I don't like
Because I can't think of an example of that being ever true.
>>
>>37998217
I'm planning on voting for it.
>>
>>37998217
I'm happy with our choices.
I don't see any particular need for Shee to have family Aspect.
She isn't 'that' big on family, and her taking care of people important to her doesn't need to be reflected in a specific Aspect.
Impossibility and Corruption already reflect that in a way. We change the world for them.
>>
>>37998279
Impossibility and Corruption give me more of a "changing the world to suit ourselves, which happens to benefit our friends and family" vibe than changing it for them. Family would probably have a lot of powers focused on making others stronger and keeping them from dying, which is a big part of why I want it.
>>
>>37998352
>have a lot of powers focused on making others stronger and keeping them from dying, which is a big part of why I want it.

Kek.
Good thing you powergamers didn't win then, because Corruption ad Impossibility makes no statement about what we change the world for.

“Enough about that for now” you say “Lets just have fun!”

You and Kae hit club after club and dance until early morning. You dance, you drink, you get lost in the music, you get into a fight with some guys who won’t stop grabbing your ass, you dance some more, you drink some more.

Much later, you collapse into your bed and fall straight to sleep.
---
The next morning you wake up late, the smell of breakfast rousing you. You stagger groggily into the kitchen, seeing Rainya cooking breakfast with Lirael...helping.

“Good morning sleepyhead” says Rainya, turning to greet you, she’s wearing an apron she must’ve found somewhere “How was your night?”

“Mrflrgh” you say eloquently.

“Is that Shee-speak for *let’s go to the movies*?” asks Lirael brightly, pancake mixture all over her face.

Come to think of it, what is your plan today? Other than your 3pm meeting and evening activities of course

Shee's To Do List:

1. Activate psychic power (this pleases Jagganatha)
2. Check out the reunited leads (elite cop, the brawler, etc.)
3. Talk to Garrax (reunited)
4. Get robots ready
5. Seek the favour of one of the Five (which?)

She'd need to have one of her other bloodlines awakened to learn that, I think. Kae said you need magical or psychic abilities, which probably means you need an energy pool of some kind, which Warrior abilities do not grant.

Caring about and protecting your friends isn't Family because...?

I too see most of what people consider "Family" Aspect, as atually just being a expression of the Passion Aspect.
Shee is very passionate about things and people.

You try speaking again “Sure” you say “A movie sounds good, what did you have in mind?”

“They’re showing the *Fading Light* nearby” says Lirael “I know it’s an old movie but it’s great, you’ll love it! It’s about the War of Shadow.” you look at Rainya, who shrugs, seems she hasn’t heard of it either.

“Will it end in time for me to be somewhere else this afternoon” you say “I have to meet a guy at 3pm”

“Oh sure” says Lirael “There’s a noon showing, if you eat quickly, we can just make it.”

You start shovelling pancakes into your mouth, talking to Lirael and Rainya at the same time.

“I need to do something about the chaoswell and soon” you say around a mouthful “Mmm great pancakes thanks Rainya.”

“How soon?” asks Rainya

“Tonight” you say “Kae and I will infiltrate, take out the chaos mages and the fae, and then Kae will shut down the chaoswell” Well, the plan isn’t fixed yet, but that’s what you have so far.

“I thought she couldn’t do that” said Rainya “And since when does Kae go on rebel missions?”

“She says she can” you say “and its better than the other ideas I’ve been considering, and Kae doesn’t know about the rebels” you say “Well, not about us anyway, she just doesn’t want a beastman army so close to the Hive and I agree with her.”

“Ok” says Rainya, “So you and Kae go in, and Lirael, Dev and I are nearby in case things go wrong, right?”

Ah, here we go...

“Actually” you say, still eating “I was thinking this might be just Kae and me, she can disguise us and we can get in without there being a big battle.”

“But we’ll still be nearby?” asks Lirael “just in case?”

“I don’t like this” says Rainya, shaking her head “How do you know Kae isn’t tricking you and this isn’t a trap? One of us should go with you, and it should be me.” Lirael shoots Rainya a disbelieving look but doesn’t say anything.

“It’ll be just me and Kae” you say “If things go wrong, it’ll be easier to get two people out by teleporting than a larger group.”

“But Sheeeee!” complains Lirael “No, I should go with you!” despite Liraels argument you are firm “No” you say with a shake of your head “this isn’t about who I want going, this is about what has the greatest chance of success.”

Rainya gives you a dubious look “Alright” she says “If you’re sure” her tone makes it clear that she isn’t.

Lirael glares at Rainya, folds her arms and says “fine!” with a scowl adding “I’ll come and break you out after they’ve captured and arrested you!” Thanks for the vote of confidence Lirael...

After breakfast you head out to the movies. The Fading Light seems to be a part of a larger series of some kind, most of the characters aren’t really introduced at all, there’s clearly some sort of ongoing plot you’re not aware of, and a big space battle at the end. One look at Rainya tells you that she is just as baffled as you are. Lirael seems to know a lot of the lines by heart: she even starts speaking along with the big pre-battle speech at the films climax.

On your way out Lirael is buzzing about the film, telling about all of her favourite parts. “Uh that’s great Lirael” you say, only half listening “the ending seemed a bit contrived though, I wonder what the writers were thinking having the enemy fleet just fall apart like that, I mean they outnumbered the *Imperials* a lot and their weapons seemed stronger, seems no real reason they should have won, I wonder who made that up.”

“It wasn’t made up!” says Lirael “it’s *history*, ugh, everyone on this world is sooo dumb, no one here has heard of the War of the Shadow or the Stand at Eschenbach or the Dead Admiral or anything.” Ah kids and their fantasy worlds....

“Anyway” you say, checking the time on your comm, I need to hurry or I’ll be late. You all head back to the Waystation where you grab a couple of boxes of what you’re selling as a sample and head down to the kitchen to meet Tenley. Gambon is nowhere to be seen.

“Uh Tenley” you say, aware of the other chefs present “You said we needed to...”

Tenley swings around to glare and you and then stalks out of the kitchen, gesturing at you to follow.

He leads you around the back of the restaurant and gets into beaten up old car. You put your boxes in the back and get in with him “Where are we going?” you ask

“To trade” he says shortly, ah so he *can* speak.

“I know that” you say “But where?”

“Trading place” he answers. Oh, a conversationalist...
---
You and Tenley pull up at a warehouse and Tenley leads you both inside. The shelves are stacked with boxes of all shapes and sizes and there are a half-dozen men standing around that might as well have *thug* tattooed on their foreheads: Bulky, obvious bulges of weapons under clothes, lots of metal rings and fierce expressions. In the midst of all of this is a man at a desk with a cash counting machine and a thick paper ledger.

“Tenley” he says in a jovial voice, taking an unlit cigar out of his mouth “What can I get you? I have some beautiful carving knives in stock if your thinking of upgrading from-”

Tenley just grunts and gestures at you.

“Hello there little miss” says the man “I’m sorry but we don’t sell dollies here.”

It’s been a while since someone *mistook* you for a child, but it still pisses you off.

“Tenley” you say “tell this idiot I mean business, and I’m not wasting his time.”

One of the thugs moves towards you saying something that sounds a little like “You gotta problum?” but it’s more grunting than words. Before he gets close enough that you need to do something about it Tenley intercepts him and you hear what sounds like a whisper. Out of the corner of your eye you can see the tiny man with his knife poking the thug in the stomach, just hard enough to go through his clothing, but not draw blood. How did he move that fast?

Tenley grins and says something in his own language, everyone freezes.

The man at the desk says “Boys, be cool, Tenley you’ve made your point, Miss” he addresses you “I don’t know who you are, but if Tenley has your back, that’s good enough, I’m Leogh, how can I help you?”

“I’m here to sell” you say, putting your boxes down in front of him. With a gesture from Leogh one of the thugs comes forward, picks up the box and it some distance from Leogh, inspects it and brings it back. This is repeated for each box and Leogh inspects what you’ve got “How many?” he asks

“A dozen more where they came from” you say “of each one”

“Ten thousand the lot” says Leogh. It’s about what you’d expect for what you’re selling. You didn’t bring your best stuff after all. It’s not the best price this might fetch, but Tenley seems to think he’s ok.

“Deal” you say “And I want to sell more of this stuff, how much can you buy?”

“How much you got?” asks Leogh

You do a little mental arithmetic, all the computers but not the supercomputer, the robots, cybernetics, maybe a few things subtracted for personal use...

“About a million worth” you hazard a guess. Leoghs eyes widen very slightly.

“Will take a couple days” he says “But yeah, I got buyers, anything else you want to buy...or sell?” you can hear the greed dripping from his voice.

“If it’s only a couple of days” you say “then I might as well get you it all together, as for other stuff,...”

It would probably help if we would do it, make it go faster instead of just waiting for Kae.
I heavily doubt we are less capable of handling magic energy then she is.
>>
>At Darkness 4 your bonus from Darkness 2 rises to +20

Just saying, if we're about to be doing a sneaky mission. 15 more sneak bonus looks like a lot to me.
>>
>>38000730
>I heavily doubt we are less capable of handling magic energy then she is.
Maybe, but she is a Fae, even if a young one. We don't know how capable she is at handling magical energy, how capable we are in comparison or how capable we'd be at handling the level of energy in a chaoswell, and I'm not willing to risk our lives or the success of the mission on an assumption.
>>
>>38000730
I can see the argument, how much xp is it?
>>
>>38000743
That something we should buy, yes.
Seconding that.
>>
>>38000730
Given that it is implied the Fae killed the five's other siblings i think she might be. She's noble fae she is really tough. Remember she warps reality by dancing too hard.
>>
>>38000785
Nah, she didn't. She lost control of her powers and started leaking Oneira everywhere, its actually a show of not being very good.
Shee can definitly handle magical energy better than Kae, the issue is more, that Kae knows what to do, and we don't.

>>38000774
5XP, but I don't think its what we need for that.
>>
>>38000785
>killed the five's other siblings
>implying they're dead.
Nah. Remember when we first got linked to Impossibility completely unrestrained and Shee started screaming about how "Sealed isn't dead! The fools! The fae are being controlled!" and all that before it got lowered down a lot?
>>
>>38000808
>5XP, but I don't think its what we need for that.
I have a feeling it might come in handy, and if not now, then later. 5 xp isn't that steep either.
>>
>>38000764
Not being fast enough endangers the mission too.
And there isn't really any reasonable doubt about a fledgling deity being at least as capable of handling magic energy as a juvenile fae.
Experience is really the only thing that matters here, and I'm not even convinced thats a problem.
>>
>>38000785
Actually, the Five and their siblings mostly killed eachother, and then the Fae teamed up with a bunch of other guys to kill a few too.
It was definitly not the Fae alone, if at all.
>>
>>38000848
Lots of possibilities, not a whole lot of points that might actually persuade me.
>>
>>38000841
True but still Kae knows her shit, we don't. Besides linking to the well could count as us claiming it since we are a nascent deity. We can by 15 minutes with shadow form easily enough if we kill the mages quickly.

>>38000874
Yes they did kill each other some. But it wasn't them killing each other which weakened and nearly killed them and sealed the others away. They did say they had no part in it though.
>>
>>38000841
I got the vibe from that sequence that it was more something trapped inside this planet that we do *not* want getting out, which the Fae are inadvertently and less-inadvertently creating gaps in the prison of.

>>38000842
Then we can get it when it comes in handy.

>>38000808
Shee has more control, but we're also dealing with a volume problem here, and if Kae can casually start leaking another dimension all over the place, the one which is the source of chaos magic at that, I think she might be better suited for large volumes of energy than us.
>>
You send a text to Kae with a location and time and head upstairs to talk to Rainya. You find her and Lirael reading some sort of book on a datapad, curled up in a chair together. They look cute like that, like it all fits together somehow.

“Can I speak to you for a moment?” you ask Rainya, adding to Lirael “I’m only borrowing her for a moment.” Lirael rolls her eyes and makes exaggerated kissing noises as you both leave the room.

“Is this a booty call?” asks Rainya with a grin, once you get her alone.

“I wish” you say, “Ah look, I just wanted to make sure that you’re ok with this whole mission, me and Kae and everything.”

“Honestly?” asks Rainya, you nod.

“No” she says “I’m not” you open your mouth to speak “No hear me out Shee, Kae is some airhead rich girl who probably thinks this whole thing is going to be fun, the first time someone shoots at her she’ll surrender, and that’s assuming this isn’t some sort of trap, you can’t trust the fae Shee, you just can’t!”

“Kae could have attacked m plenty of times” you point out “and she didn’t.”

“So now you trust her more than you trust me, or Dev, or Lirael?” asks Rainya “really?”

“It’s not about who I trust” you explain “it’s about what’s needed on this mission.”

“Because it couldn’t possibly go wrong and you won’t need back-up at all right?” asks Rainya, folding her arms over her chest “Shee I trust you but I think you’re being overconfident, don’t go alone with Kae, please.”

“It’ll be fine Rainya” you say “trust me, please”

“I think you underestimate Kae.” you say “she didn't run away when that vampire attacked us in Quinns dream realm, she reacted fast, made the right call and then she stuck around and kept fighting. She could have easily abandoned me there after getting what she wanted. She didn't, she fought with me.”

“Still....” says Rainya “I dunno...how about you convince me” she puts her arms around your neck and grins.
---
Afterwards you head back into the room, Lirael gives you both a head-to-toe scan as you walk in “That was quick” she says “and quiet too.”

“Lirael!” you chide, really, what goes on in her head?

You spend a few hours with Rainya and Lirael, talking, reading Liraels favourite books, playing her favourite games with her, until it’s time to get ready. You check everything you have in your dimensional arsenal, and then you head out to meet Kae.

At the bar you arranged to meet her at Kae is practically bouncing from foot to foot “C’mon” she says excitedly “We gotta do this.”

“Get a grip” you say “we want this to go smoothly, and what are you wearing?”

Kae is clad head to toe in some sort of black full body stocking...thing. Only her eyes are visible, and it clings to her, skintight. Just about every guy in the place is getting an eyeful. Oh this could be a fun night. She spins around “you like it?”

“Lets just go, ok?” you say to her.
---

You’re some distance away from the encampment and all around you is darkness, Kae is at your side, you’ve amped up your physical abilities and senses as far as you can, and Kae has some sort of spell active on her, you can feel it, but you don’t know what it does.
>>
Ahead you can see lights on in some of the buildings, and a few guards still doing night patrols. You can see one warmech idling, the canopy is open and the pilot is smoking, of the other five you’ve heard about there is no sign, nor can you see any of the chaos mages or the fae.

The warmech is a medium infantry warmech, looks like a mark 4, heavier and tougher than the one Dev uses. Fighting one of those would be difficult, fighting six...

“So now we sneak in, right?” says Kae at your side, you roll your eyes, did she forget the plan already?

“You did remember the disguise spell right?” you say “We walk in there remember?”

“Oh right!” says Kae “Uh yeah, I got it, what’s our cover story again? Did I capture a dangerous rebel or are we star-crossed lovers on the run or maybe” Kae comes up with all sorts of implausible and suspicious stories.

>Assumption of Authority: Because of the way you carry yourself, expecting to be obeyed without question, often people believe you are their superior. The first time you meet someone you may make a Fellowship check, success means they believe you are their superior in whatever organisation they are a part of and act accordingly, even if you have no badge of office, uniform, passcode etc. Those afflicted can make a Will check to end this power if given obvious and believable evidence to the contrary (contradictory orders from a genuine superior, being told to watch out for the character etc). This power cannot be used in combat but if combat starts those already affected by this talent will remain so. The effect of this talent varies from person to person depending upon the organisation they are in. Military types won’t usually refuse an order from (what they think is) a superior officer but a member of a criminal organisation may need threatening or paying and an office worker probably won’t get involved in combat, for example.

“We have new orders” you say “for the commander of this place, no one else gets to question us.” You feel the power of the King of Hell growing within you as you and Kae march forward, as you do so Kae does...something and an illusion surrounds you, you both appear to be wearing military uniforms and as you march into camp the soldiers on watch challenge you “Who goes there?” he falters for a moment and then asks “What the?”

“Not your concern soldier” you say, your voice sounds different and you suspect if you looked in a mirror an unfamiliar face would stare back at you.

“Yes sir!” backs the soldier, saluting as you and Kae walk past him. Several times the soldiers patrolling the camp stop you, but you simply bully your way past them with attitude and (fake) rank.

Eventually you make it into the cabin of the commanding officer. You see a young-looking fae slouched in a chair, dressed in trousers and a shirt, a bottle of wine in one hand, bit early in the evening isn’t it?

He doesn’t even stand up as you burst in the door.

I've got a plan, but if you follow it, I dunno.

She totally would.
I think you very much underestimate how ruthless Kae is.

So we're supposed to do an almost-certainly-stupid plan because you can't control your nerves?
>>
>>38002715
What you're feeling is the unease of such easy success in such a potentially fatal mission. Everyone expected a tad more resistance then this. Its going too perfectly.

We're going to hit a snag somewhere and we're dreading where and what that snag is.
>>
>>38002775
>>38002766
No I was joking, going jaggie now is 100% stupid
>>
>>38002787
Don't get confident, the hard part is dealing with the mages.
We need to remove them without anyone noticing.
>>
“You’re up” you whisper to Kae.

“Right” she says stepping forward and says to the fae lounged in the chair “I thought you should know-” and then she kicks him in the face, knocking the whole chair over backwards, the fae landing in an untidy mess on the floor, unmoving.

“What was that?” you ask Kae in whisper “I thought you were going to put him to sleep or something with magic.”

Kae peels the fae’s eyelid back with a finger “I did put him to sleep” she says calmly “just not with magic, and anyway, there’re six mages here, that would have been noticed-”

The cabin door opens and one of the mages you saw last night comes barging in saying “My lord I know we’re on a tight schedule but you can’t just expect us to- Hey, what’s going on here?”

And the thread ends there, thanks for playing. My apologies for making so many mistakes, really I have no excuse other than trying to juggle too many plot ideas, be sure to point out when I screw up and I’ll either fix in it-game or, if needed retcon it.

It could be useful if we decide not to use overt powers. Sleep only lasts for 10 minutes, so I'm somewhat reluctant to rely on that. It's not a bad use of XP in any case and entangle could probably help with wall-climbing.
>>
>>38003017
True but she can easily kill a normal human with an offhand backhand, hell she nearly offed us with one. That requires little to no strength on her part either. I'd imagine she could go into the brawling ring and wipe the floor with multiple high rank fighters at once. There was a reason Fae roflstomped humanity on this world.
>>
>>38003077
Sadly we need to get rid of him anyway. But its a great line.
We probably say that before knocking him out.

I would usggest getting

for Rainya, since she got pistol skill, and I would prefer reserving the rest of her XP so we can get 4 Ranks plurality in one go.

We could. Its not like its a bad investment, and we got 15XP left, so even with a "safety net" of 10, we still got spares for that 2XP.
>>

>>38003380
I just want to point out that the tentacles are currently not very good against the soldiers with armor, until we get Armor Shattering Blow.
>>
>>38003429
Or Creature of the Deep. Filling people's lungs with water every time we hit them is pretty good.
>>
>>38003488
We can't get that currently. And it wouldn't help us much, the Constitution malus isn't very useful.
>>
>>38003488
>Creature of the Deep
I just realized that getting that would let us make the ocean super-cold super-pressurized past a certain point in our realm and we could swim in it no problem and it would fuck up just about anyone that wasn't a fairly devoted Ichor follower.
>>
>>38003535
We can already do that using Adaptive Mutation.
>>
>>38003563
I find myself skeptical that it could adapt fast enough to let us survive the extremely rapid pressure and temperature changes I had in mind.
>>
>>38003624
Creature of the Deep doesn't let us survive ridiculous extents of that either.
It just allows us to survive "regular" deep water enviroment. Which Adaptive Mutation can do too.
>>
>>38003653
He means he doubt it'd be fast enough for an instant save or die sort of thing. Like from Room temp to deep ocean with nothing in between.
>>
>>38003380
I support this purchase as it is now.
We can think about more tentacles later, I guess. We might need those 15XP for other on-the-spot purchases tomorrow.
>>
>>38003700
Since that is literally the purpose of it, it very likely can do that.

>>
>>38003535
The hydrokinesis / drowning people / water body things are way better than the deep ocean survival.

Could you write it up AA? Unless you have something to add.
>>
>>38003380
Apport Projectiles and Divert Teleport should be considered. Apport Projectiles is just really good, Divert Teleport will make sure the mage can't run and let us keep reinforcements from teleporting in in the future. Should probably keep the 10 XP buffer regardless.
>>
>>38003653
>It just allows us to survive "regular" deep water enviroment.
Nope.
>>
>>38003886
Actually yes.

Not sure about Apport Projectiles, given its very PE intensive before Rank 4.

No, it is any level of cold and pressure caused by water.
>>
>>38003994
That isn't very useful considering our Physics defying already allows us to survive any amount of hostile Enviroment.
Not to mention, again, Adaptive Mutation does the same thing.
>>
>>38003994
She can already survive in whatever crazy enviroment we create in her realm, because its hers.

Clarify what you mean here please.

>>38004066

The realm thing explicitly said that we're not allowed to create abnormal physics that affect everyone except Shee. Unless I read it wrong or am misremembering.
>>
>>38004024
>Not to mention, again, Adaptive Mutation does the same thing.
It wouldn't because we'd have to not die instantly the first time in.
>>

And dev is still forgotten.

Hard to be the lone man.

Should we get Rainya some more toughness levels, more duplicates or maybe some skill choices?

The limits on Adaptive Mutation is going to take a while to write up. Will have it for next thread

Pally
>>
>>38003968
>Not sure about Apport Projectiles, given its very PE intensive before Rank 4.
First projectile is either 1 PE or 0 PE, and we can recover our PE as long as there are people around. There are usually people around when we're being shot at.

It's ability to apport grenades, missiles and magical attacks is what made me want it.

Divert Teleport is probably the better of two for now, though.

If we did it according to the Physics be damned trait, yes.
But we don't need that for this purpose. Since she can freely change everything anyway.

>>38004154
He isn't forgotten, there is just nothing to be purchased for him right now.
And his XP aren't enough for a big upgrade.
Toughness is a waste for Rainya when we can get Durability instead. And I would like to save up Rainyas XP so we can get Plurality 4 next thread.
>>
>>38004221
>If we did it according to the Physics be damned trait, yes.
>But we don't need that for this purpose. Since she can freely change everything anyway.
Are you seriously saying that not only do we not need to use PBD to create environments with abnormal physics, but it's also actively detrimental to use PBD ever because regular shifts allow us to create hostile abnormal physics which affect everyone except Shee?
>>
>>38004221

Are we going to have Dev maybe make us some Mastercraft weapons?

Mastercraft plasma/laser pistols?

Upgrade his sniper to 5/5 (+2 levels)
Get him computer use to optimize his warmech combat more?

Get him a ranged combat ability, like rifle or heavy weapon?
>>
>>38004187
I was referring to the "each beyond the first costs 3PE", I couldn't find costs for the first one and assumed its for free.
>>
>>38004280
He already has Ranged Combat. Anything beyond that would first require Pally to give us an answer if the warmech rifle is a heavy weapon or a rifle.

Which is what we are currently waiting on.
>>
>>38004275
>to create environments with abnormal physics
There is nothing abnormal about cold high-pressure enviroments.
And its questionable if "denizen" means the beings created in it, or everyone who is currently in the realm.
Definitly we do not need PbD to create extreme enviroments.
>>
>>38004386
>There is nothing abnormal about cold high-pressure enviroments.
The entire premise of this conversation was that the ocean would immediately reach extreme pressure and cold as a way to hurt invaders and the CotD 1+ would let Shee survive in it.

I was never talking about normal deep ocean, I was talking about ocean that isn't all that deep, but somehow is colder and has higher pressure than the deepest part of the ocean on the biggest water world you can imagine.
>>
>>38004275
Shee can designate zones in which they apply or not at will. So yes, she can pretty much use PBD to create hostile abnormal effects to hit everyone except where she is. Or just where the persons she wants to hit are.
>>
>>38004347
>Heavy Laser Rifle 1d20+10 (4d8)
>(Sniper) Heavy Laser Rifle 1d20+10 (4d8+9)
Pretty sure it counts.

>>38004386
>Definitly we do not need PbD to create extreme enviroments.
PbD is the extension of our Impossibility aspect that factors into realm-building, so we kinda do.

>>38004481
>The bigger the changes you make the longer it will take
It's not at-will.
>>
>>38004481
I was under the impression that it takes some time and focus to change stuff, but if it works how you say it does then that's really cool.
>>
>>38004459
Thats not what PBD refers to. We can already make our ocean as cold and high-pressure as we want.
PBD is stuff like eating lava and walking on clouds.
Technically the entire place already defies physics as it is.
>>
>>38004516
It literally says it in the description
>The physical laws can vary by area however (‘water is breathable except in sector 14’ for example, is fine).
Sure it takes time for large scale change. But small scale change, like "the area around me is not ice cold now", isn't one.
I expect Pally to change a lot about how the realm works, because as it is, Protected, is rather useless to us.
>>
>>38004522
Water being only a few degrees off absolute zero without freezing is absolutely what PBD refers to.

Same thing with water being so pressurized it will crush you to death instantly once you get a couple feet into it.

That is not normal physics.
>>
>>38004567
The entire place already doesn't follow normal physics.
>>
>>38004514
>>Heavy Laser Rifle 1d20+10 (4d8)
>>(Sniper) Heavy Laser Rifle 1d20+10 (4d8+9)
>Pretty sure it counts.

It likely does.

I propose we get the last 2 levels on sniper for dev, give him that nice crit rate.
>>
>>38004280
He does need a job.
Could we use our realm to feed vampires using population? It seems like we could stick Ash and Quinn in there if they need a safe house.
>>
>>38005461
I would suggest using the ask that Pally posted.

http://ask.fm/AnAspiringQM

I think expanding the resteraunt and having some sort of workshop there would be a good idea for us.

Let Dev do something, we seem to forget him sadly.

Or see with the money we can at least get some true hive identities for us so that way dev can go back to normalcy with a job.

We of course need to recruit more minions for our cell, ideally 'special' types.
>>
I would also like to go ahead and hit those soldiers that attacked the duster area with Mr. Psycho.

I would rather mind rape them into having a conscience and acting on it rather then killing them.

There are some who are like that, lets pick others and just kill the worst of them.

Rot out his unit from the inside.
