You are John James Green, mutant vagrant.

You dither at the corner of the street, the neon glow of the Tabbycat little more than a mutter of strobing, undulating pink, fading steadily into the distance. You’re not entirely sure what to do next – you went out with the intent to strike a deal with Silvio Manfredi, but you didn’t really entertain many hopes of him actually saying yes.

The wind rattles along the nearby roofs, sending tiny flecks of lingering snow high into the air. They spiral down around you, tiny and fragile, barely real by the time they hit the pavement. There’s a low, pregnant murmur to the air – gonna be hard winds tonight. Maybe even a little storm.

Shivering, you make sure the items in your jacket pocket are secure. Before being sent on your way by the Maggia, you asked Mr. Manfredi if you could keep something with his granddaughter’s scent on it. After explaining your way around the weird stares, you found yourself waiting an hour before one of his men returned with her comb.

He also told you she was last seen down near Chinatown, eating out with a few of her schoolmates, which gives you a pretty big hint as to who vanished her right off the bat. You imagine that Manfredi must think the same, though as far as you can tell he hasn’t done anything about it.

Well then. What do you do now?

>[X] Head to the Blonde Phantom Agency. They might be of help.

After a little while spent umming and ahhing over the time, you decide to check in with the Blonde Phantom and her merry gang of sleuths and pornstars. They’re real detectives (one of them is, anyhow), they should have a thing or two to say about your little escapade. Maybe they’ve even done some digging of their own.

Tightening your jacket around your waist, you head North. The last embers of day grow cold and die before you’re even half way, the bite of the wind sinking deeper as night descends in its entirety. It’s 19:43 by the time you get there, and you spend a good few minutes jogging on the spot while you wait for someone to answer the door.

Nico lets you in, looking a great deal less tired than she did when you last saw her, though the lopsided frenzy of her hair speaks to you of a night spent crashing on the couch. You can smell it on her, actually.

“The Phantom said you’d be here sometime this afternoon.” She says, as you ascend the stairs to the main office.

“…She did?”

“Yeah.” She shoots you a bemused glance, her makeup turning her eyes into long, dark tunnels. “What, you didn’t call?”

You shake your head. You’re pretty sure you didn’t.

Nico shrugs. “Well, whatever. You want a coffee?”

Yeah, you definitely do.

As you head out into the cluttered office that serves as the agency’s muddled central cortex, you hear a long, expectant hum, and the Phantom looks up from her desk.

“It was Moon Knight, huh?” She’s smiling, but her eyes are softer than usual, less… picky. You think she may be a little relieved. “You seem mostly intact, which is odd.”

Ha ha ha.

Also why are we still walking everywhere? Does everyone keep forgetting that we have wings. AND WE CAN BE INVISIBLE WHILE FLYING. It's not like there's any reason not to fly.

We'll need to be on the ground when tracking someone by smell. But, if we're just going home, or to the agency?

>>
>[X] Tell her you’ve taken an interest in the Alicia Manfredi case.
>[X] Ask her if she wants you to do anything in particular about Moon Knight.

“Yeah… about that…” You’re not sure what to do about that. Moon freaking Knight. “Do we have, like, a policy, or something? In regards to crazy moon men? Is there something you want me to do about him?”

“Hmmm…” The Phantom leans back in her seat, thinking the question over. “…Be careful? This agency doesn’t meddle in its employees’ private lives. I would, however, advise you to not for one instant trust the Moon Knight. He has a list of offences longer than most of the criminals he beats into tar. Also, I’m obligated by law to share any information regarding these offences, so…”

She smiles broadly.

“…keep quiet, if you intend on exploring his interest in you.”

Right. You thought it might be something along those lines.

Unzipping your jacket, you take a moment to slough off the cold before stepping into the Phantom’s half of the combined room. She shuffles away a small pile of papers as you approach.

“Now, is there something else?”

The tone in her voice tells you she already knows, she’s just being polite. Kind of unnerving.

“Yeah…” You swallow, going through the events of the day in your head, blacking out the parts you’d rather keep to yourself. “…I’ve been looking into the Alicia Manfredi case. You know, the kidnapping?”

She nods, an eyebrow rising behind her domino mask. “Silvermane’s granddaughter. I know.”

“I guess I was just wondering if you guys had looked into it at all.”

Setting down her cup, she shakes her head.

“We work on contract, and Silvermane hasn’t contacted us.” She shrugs. “I would imagine he has his own people looking into it. Why the interest?”

>Yeah, why?

The truth i guess. We made a deal, if we find his granddaughter, that crime family will stay out of jack production/distribution.
This is important to JJ since jack causes mutants to go boom and authority's to hunt em down.

By the way, I've been thinking about the jack process, and I've noticed a few interesting things, first of all, it is greatly inefficient, relying on clearly harvesting a whole slew of components from mutants overtime and wrecking them in the process. I sincerely doubt every single part of the harvest they are getting from those mutants is actually what gives jack its active effect, which means they likely don't know what the true active ingredient in jack is, just that its one of a general bit of possible things. In addition, they haven't figured out how to factory grow it. In the good ole days, pigs were harvested for insulin in great quantity, before they realized they could just use tiny, highly ethical non intelligent bacteria to produce it in greater more pure quantities. The fact they haven't done this means they either lack start up funding, the will to do so, or the actual knowledge of what they need to mass produce in the first place.

This also means jack is inherently flawed in its current state, and might be safer in a more refined state. It also means I am an insane fuck for wanting jack to actually be a thing in any state whatsoever.
>>
>>38197925
Wait for Typhon to look back at his old waste product...

Or for Sinister to take an interest.
>>
>>38197925
Eh, if you found out the compound and a method to synthesize it out of living things, or in cell cultures (allot of modern drugs use cell vats to produce drugs and compounds these days).

And if the "You blow up after losing control" is a side effect of impure sub-strait, it could turn into a wonder cure for lots of mutants. Having said that, it could also be force fed into people to suppress their powers and enslave them. SO swings and round-a-bouts i guess.

Note: The druid route implys a safe version of Jack through eating JJ's fruits, which means it is likely that a close variant of or pure jack is actually safe.
>>
>>38197925
So you are saying, the guys we found were on Jack for so long they started producing it naturally? I don't know why TumorBro would need Jack for(beyond feelgood reasons), though.

Also, I noticed that Jack was described as giving the user a sense of comfort, like a tight family hug, not unlike the effects of Typhonbro's own brand of Telepathy. Coincidence!?!?!?
>>
>>38198029
No, I'm saying that the people we found in there were being inefficiently harvested for some bulk bodily fluid and/or component that was THEN being used to make jack, the fact that they are taking raw mutant whatever and putting it into jack with pretty minimal amounts of refining suggests they know a mutant based component is needed in jack but don't know what that component actually is, they just know it comes from x part of a mutant and they need it to not become literally cancer.
>>
>>38198058
Maybe it's a stabilizer that stops a mutant from mutating /'quiets' mutations, but the sudden lack of it can fuck you up.
>>
>>38198008
we have to corner the market before Typhon does...more than he has already
>>
>>38198124
You don't know what it does, do you?
>>
>>38198058
Jack is probably a modified regulatory protein found (encoded for) on the X gene of all mutants (and therefore only mutants). Essentially acting as an on-off switch or part of the regulation of expression (e.g. lots or very little). Post processing (aka turning it into jack) locks it in the off-switch position.

If i had to hazard a guess, this same process also locks other regulatory proteins into certain positions, which results in the cancerous tumors seen in the harvesters. (Cancer is essentially cell regulation gone wrong). As such, pure jack is probably benign.
Certain naturally produced opiates could also be affected, which when included with the street jack version would explain the europha/comfort feeling.
>>
>>38198150
This is quite possible, and if it were to be the case that would mean it would be quite a trivial manner to cell culture jack, simply requiring figuring out which specific gene sequence is needed to be spliced. This is good. It means that creeper doesn't have actual scientists working for him. Which means he won't have any especially nasty anti mutant tech or surprises for us.
>>
>>38198145
Just a thought that crossed my mind based on what I've heard of it. It makes mutant powers more stable and powerful, right?
>>
>(1/2)

You sigh inwardly. You guess you should tell her the truth.

Or some of the truth, anyway.

“I kind of made a deal with him.”

To her credit, the Blonde Phantom barely bats an eye at the statement. You notice her posture shift subtly, however, one leg crossing upon the other, her arms folding across her midsection. It reminds you of the way a teacher sits, or a counselor, or anyone in a position of power and station over another individual.

“A deal?” She cocks her head to one side, and you think you see a squint forming behind her mask. “You made a deal with Silvio Manfredi?”

“Y-yeah.” You say, feeling thoroughly scrutinized. “I’m finding his daughter, and he’s staying away from Jack.”

You leave out the decisions made in the Scar. You don’t think you want anyone, no matter how magnanimous they might appear, knowing that there’s a secret mutie council playing secret mutie civ in their back yard. You’re not sure you want to know that – part of you feels like you should just be making like a tree and getting yourself as far from the Scar and all its nonsense as possible.
>>
>(2/2)

“I see…” She says it slowly, as though parsing through your words, stripping them down and sewing them back together in her head. “…There’s no harm in that, I suppose. Someone should find that girl before anything happens to her…” You feel a ‘but’ coming. “…That said, you should know that Silvermane is not a man of any particular honour. Don’t expect him to be straight with you.”

“I don’t.” You say.

You know his kind.

Puffing her cheeks slightly, she drags out a long, relieved sigh. You feel the tension in the air recede.

“Well, that was all very serious.” Reaching for her coffee, she takes a long, overly-indulgent sip. When she puts the mug down she seems almost visibly recharged. “I could ask someone if they want to help. Ricochet is technically a superhero.”

Its also a good explanation for why it eventually stops working and has such a nasty withdrawl, their systems adapt to the increased regulatory protein load until vast quantities are required for the same high. “Nah, it’s okay. I can deal with this myself.”

Well. Possibly.

“Though…” You pause, a little dumbstruck at the weirdness about to spill out of your mouth. The Phantom cants her head in curiosity, a low, indolent hum lingering on her lips. “…Do you have rebreather, or something? People keep trying to gas me.”

She guffaws loudly – it’s a single short, sharp note of laughter that carries through the whole building. For a moment you think she might have superpowers after all.

“Well, I can’t say I keep one handy.” She says, a big, half-moon smile lingering below her mask. “I could purchase something, if you’d like. It would come out of your next job.”

“…That would be okay.”

You’re very, very worried about gas.

Nico blindsides you a little with your coffee, and you spend the next few minutes sort of just hanging around, waiting for it to cool down. The Phantom tells you about the case she’s working – something commission by this Stephen Strange (you think you recall that name from somewhere? Some book your mom had or something? You think it was a self-help thing, which makes sense, since the guy is apparently a doctor) guy. Apparently she has to head out to some sleepy little town all the way in Oregon, so Remy will be holding stuff down here for a bit.

Before you leave, something comes to you.

“Hey, uh… something else…”

You ask her if she could do any digging on a Joyce Rachel Green, and she says she’ll try to find the time. Feeling a little nervous and somewhat exposed, you thank her and say goodbye, heading out into the cold.

The night above is chocked with thick, pregnant clouds. Everything howls.

Nasty night, tonight.

Right then. It’s cold and windy and miserable outside, but you want to get this over and done with. No time like the present an’ all that.

Heading towards Manhattan, you fish out your Moon Phone, giving Laura a call. She picks up almost immediately, and the first thing your hear is the squawking of multiple Laylas badgering her to hand over the phone. It goes on for a little while before Laura apparently decides to ignore it.

“John?”

“Hey!” You feel yourself straight up a little at the sound of your voice. Is that kinda sad? “I’m heading over to Chinatown right now, running down this thing with Silvermane, so I’ll be probably be kinda late. You wanna meet me out here?”

Somewhere in the background, a Layla makes the extremely distinctive sound of someone with their arm locked behind their back.

“…Yes.” She says, eventually.

“Great. How about we meet up at Canal Street? That sound good?”

“That won’t be a problem. I will… I’ll see you then.”

Stowing your phone back away, you shrug off your coat and head for a nearby alley. The cold seeps in under your skin, driving daggers along your veins, but you bear with it. You won’t have to mind it for too long, and you feel… warmer, these days, in general, like you’ve got a little reservoir of daytime hiding somewhere under your skin. You drag your hoodie off, and your shirt, tying them around your waist, and you let your arms transform, spreading out into wings.

God this is the coolest.
>>
>>38199581
I meant that JJ might be able to contort and fuck his own ass, but yeah, sure.
>>
>(2/2)

With a single, great heave, you propel yourself into the air, the ground receding below. The wind is cruel, but the adrenaline keeps you warm, and you strike out towards Manhattan.

You make it to Canal Street in record time, landing on one of the adjacent buildings and sorting out your clothes. You cloak yourself from sight while you Spider-Man your way down the building, and make sure to return into visibility a little ways away from the subway – you spotted a bunch of guys with MCA armbands milling around the mouth of the station.

You wait for a little under an hour, the night deepening around you, before the familiar, iridescent scent of Laura Kinney catches you by the chin, turning your head toward her as she emerges from the station. Your blood thrashes a little in your veins as one of the MCA guys stops her for a moment, but the exchange is brief, and soon she’s making her way through the crowded street towards you.

“Hey.” You nod towards the officers. “What was that about?”

“They’re checking everyone.” She says, flatly. “There has been an incident nearby.”

Drat. You hope that doesn’t get in the way.

Protection against firearms isn't a high priority. We escaped from a horde of gunmen firing at us before we even had Echolocation.

We can evade a room full of gunmen, I'd rather boost our tasers or eye beams.

As someone else: Its still damn useful and needed, since its not just firearms it would work vs.
Not to mention, can't dodge all the time. Shotgun+almost buried alive episode taught us.
>>
>>38200433
It's an extremely big investment for it. While it is probably a good idea, there are tons of great defensive options, like Shadow Field, or Photo helping us to have less hunger.
>>
Can we go for photo 4? Next tier gives +1 boost to all stuff (active, one at the time).
Should give us an edge for the rarely used skills.
>>
>>38200605
Only works with enough sunlight and we are in NYC in the winter. I'd rather go for eye blasts 3 or wings 3.
>>
>>38200605
I'd back that option. It is a nice boost, plus the boon of less hunger.
>>
>>38200520
Max subdermal wouldn't make you able to tank a shotgun blast from that close and shake it off like nothing. Level 5 is only around the level of kevlar. JJ would be stunned by the first blast, then seeing as he isn't immediately dead - he'd just get shot again.

Not to mention if the shotgun is aimed at the head rather than center of mass, JJ would die no matter what level of subdermal he has. Hence why JJ should do what he can to not get into that situation in the first place.
>>
>>38200646
Sunlight stopped mattering at tier 2. Unless we are underground or something, we are somewhat charging.
>>
>>38200605
I'm for Kinesics before it might get locked. Then for maxing Photo so we barely need sustenance.
>>
>>38200689
Ups, tier 3
PHOTOSYNTHETIC BIOLOGY
JJ mutates a number of plantlike attributes, first and foremost among them the ability to derive sustenance from sunlight.
Level 1: JJ may now derive a measure of sustenance from direct sunlight. As long as he spends a few hours per day standing under the sun, he can mitigate the effects of hunger.
Level 2: JJ may now mitigate hunger via shorter time exposed to sunlight.
Level 3: JJ may now metabolize indirect sunlight, though this takes longer. He can choose to ‘store’ energy gained this way for a rainy day rather than consuming it immediately.
Level 4: JJ shakes off fatigue and illness more easily when under the sun. He can choose to temporarily boost one of his attributes to heightened levels by burning through stored solar energy.
Level 5: JJ is nearly impossible to tire out under the sun and can sustain himself almost indefinitely with only sunlight and sparse amounts of water for nourishment.
>>
>>38200662
Considering he would be dodging, we are presuming he is getting the edge of shotgun spray, so its sub dermal in cohesion with agility, allowing him to take some damage and keep moving.

The alternative is attempting to move, guaranteed fucked from the edge spray and getting shot again, while dermal gives a chance to keep moving.
>>
>>38200702

You dawdle awkwardly for a moment, unsure of what to do, before you take Laura’s hand in yours, sharing a brief kiss before you head out on the hunt.

The sounds and scents of Chinatown whirl around you, a kitschy overload of red and gold, but Laura’s taste hangs on your lips like a stain, seeping through you, weaving its way into the fabric of your senses and refusing to budge. The crowds are thick and loud, and you stick close together, your shoulders brushing as you press your way through the late-night torrent of shoppers and diners and tourists and all-sorts. You must have grazed against thirty or forty people by the time you’ve been wandering just a few minutes, but when Laura presses back against you, it’s different, like a tiny electrostatic shock, a strange, vulnerable sort of feeling left where she touches you, like that segment of your flesh has been tenderized somehow.

You quickly find yourself not thinking all too much about Alicia Manfredi, and just enjoying being with Laura. For a moment, you contemplate just asking if she wants to sit down and get a bite to eat, and simply being with her for a while, forgetting about all this mob crap.

You’re a little surprised, then, when she stops in her tracks, almost bumbling into her. She sniffs loudly at the air, and you just blink for a moment, not getting it.

“That’s it.” She says.

>(2/2)

It takes you a moment to catch up, to disentangle your focus from her, but you smell it too.

Aromatic candles. A certain shade of sweat. Playing cards. Silks and cottons. Burnished bronze. Alicia Manfredi.

You follow the scene along a fairly linear path, the echoes of her presence sounding along the sidewalk for a while, before they veer off abruptly into an adjacent alley. The smells here are tainted with fear and struggle – her scent tumbles and crashes and mingles with those of four – no, five – men, continuing down the alley until it turns out into the adjoining street, making its way round the corner before culminating in a weird, confused bundle outside a restaurant.

The golden lettering above spell out UNCLE WU’s.

“She was in here for some time.” Laura states.

You feel the world pulling you back to ground level.

Dense metal plate + strength (we already have)- manually regenatable shield, no point investment. You pick up anything bulletproof and put it between you and bullets.

We just need to carry a shield/armor. Shield is probably better, as we can shield bash, and drop it for convenience more easily.

This, just because we can survive being shot does not mean it is especially pleasant, and being shot in the head can still cause significant memory loss and trauma. I don't mind getting the bulletproof wings, but that will take a while (idk how much points we need, but is probably like 7+). Its a large investment.

We can do the shield right now, if we want to. Go down the street, pick up manhole cower(bend metal garbage can, or whatever) or 2 and we are ready.

>>38201182
Yea, we can do that, but this is plan for not getting shotgun to the face for no good reason. With senses 5 we should be able to see if from miles away, but for some reason we don't.

I am just arguing that armor investment is bit on the large side, for something we can achieve differently.

>[X] Go inside, take a table. One of you can look around.

Heading inside, you ask for a table for two. The scrawny dude who sees you to your seats gives you a bit of an odd look, but being with a cute girl appears to give you a pass.

Laura is adamant about getting a table near the back of the place, and she sits down opposite you, plucking up her menu and parsing through it. You’re not entirely sure if she’s actually looking for something to eat, or if she’s just keeping up appearances, but either way, you’re probably gonna order something before you go poking around the place.

It’s a small restaurant, seating maybe forty people at most. Still, everything gleams, kept in tip-top condition by a highly synchronized workforce of teenagers that are probably all related in some way to the owner.

You breathe in, and the smell of steamed pork assaults your nasal cavity, thick and greasy and almost aggressive. You push past it, focusing on Alicia’s scent. It leads you out of the dining room, back toward the kitchens, almost getting lost amidst the steam and the sweat and the pervading aroma of Chinese food.

You guess you can check that out later.

You watch Laura as she scans the menu. Her eyes move up and down in slow, focused swoops, absorbing everything. You can’t help but notice that she’s wearing the sweater you picked for her under her jacket, the fabric fitting around her in a… pretty enjoyable way. After a minute or two, she realizes that you’re staring, and her cheeks redden slightly.

You order the cheapest stuff you can find – which is not cheap, and sounds like a whole lot of noodles – before pulling your seat out and heading to the restroom, using it to vanish from sight without causing a commotion.

You sniff at the air.

The main point of sub dermal is how it strengthens all the soft tissues, even though it won't stop a bullet entering, it will be vastly diminished in what it can achieve damage wise and greatly strengthen resistance vs most brute force e.g. getting punched.
Top teir may stop the smaller rounds from getting past the skin, larger rounds will lodge and not be able to fracture shatter before being pushed out.

For fucks sake there is tons of scrap metal everywhere. Just gotta layer it, and put it together by bending metal, or tying together with rebar. We don't even need tools with strength we have.

Also the strength makes it so we can carry really heavy armor with no downsides, so we can just double up any shitty material, instead of getting good stuff.

It’s not hard to follow the scent. To be honest, you find it far more difficult to edge your way out of the restroom without being the world’s most obvious poltergeist. You’ve learned, in your many years of being an invisible little bastard, that people will rationalize a lot of things, but the restroom door slamming open not thirty seconds after some dude went in – that dude now mysteriously vanished – probably grates a little on suspension of disbelief.

You follow Alicia down the long, narrow corridor into the kitchen, where the chef and his assistant are… doing stuff with woks, you guess. You’re not going to guess at what they’re making, because you’re probably going to be wrong – all you know is there’s chicken and pork and noodles in it.

Alicia’s scent seems to dither indecisively in the corner of the room, saturating through the walls and floor, but it doesn’t seem to go anywhere else from there. Tentatively, watching the other occupants of the room over your shoulder, you run your fingers along the walls, taking in their textures.

Cold tiles, smooth plaster underneath.

And then, without warning, you hit wood. The plaster gives way to a loose panel of timber hidden behind the laminate tiling.

Ah-ha!

There’s definitely a considerable bit of space tucked away back there, but you don’t smell anyone. Alicia must’ve been moved somewhere – they probably took her out into a car or something.

I'm talking about this
>like echolocation that lets us know a guy has a shotgun
JJ wasn't unaware of the shotgun being pointed at him.

There are situations where JJ can't or won't exercise his bullet avoiding capabilities. That situation was one of them. Saying that it's unrealistic for JJ to get caught in a situation like that again is ridiculous. Especially in a hypothetical where JJ could easily be unconscious and/or incapacitated.
>>
>>38202051

This.
>>
>>38202051
huh, i kind of forgot about sprinklers. and judging by the option being there at all im guessing so did crusty
>>
>>38202051
Unlikely, this is a seedy chinese resteraunt, most of the shadier places tend to not have functioning sprinklers, as in most circumstances sprinklers will cause more property damage then a fire will. So 9/10 chance the sprinklers don't actually work.

(Sprinklers are significantly less lethal than fire)
>>
>>38202160
Not really, Crusty is quite happy to let the player base screw themselves over if they do not think.
>>
>>38202181
>>38202160
Its also quite possible they are nonfunctional. This is a seedy chinese restaraunt, chances are they'd cut corners on maintenance and try to cut down on insurance costs by not having functional sprinklers, as in the case of a fire the sprinklers would do more damage than the fire would.
>>
>>38202193
Was it not described as gleaming and expensive food?

>>
>>38202235
Does not mean that the store front has to be shit and have none functional health and safety.
Just because someone is doing something dodgy in the back does not make the front look worse.

This place is not "seedy" any more than any other place in the part people get to see. If anything they may have working sprinklers so that they pass all H&S inspec and get left alone.
>>
>>38202211
They hid the girl in the wall and then stuffed her in a van. It's shady as fuck.
>>
>>38202079
A case where panicking man with a shotgun is different from gun to the head. We can out-react flatscans (unless crackbitch strikes) and if we wake up to a gun to our head we have bigger things to worry about.
>>
>>38202281
H&S in NYC is a joke, half of them accept money and the other half only do there job right if someone does it for them. One of NYCs most famous bakeries literally got shut down the other day because someone filmed rats running around in it.
>>
>>38202296
Shady is not seedy. Lots of bad things hide behind perfectly benign legal and logical veneers. Its called a front. Having a shit front gets the operation found.
>>
>>38202312
Now that is logic that is useful and points to potentially being seedy and bad H&S. You have a point.
Bad men doing bad things in the back do not.
>>
>>38202313
That makes a lot of sense. Just make sure when you need to describe the difference, do so in the first post. Makes things easier.
>>
>[X] Go back to your table, confer with Laura.

Well… you’re not entirely sure what to do here. Your one detective-worthy attribute, your nose, can’t really help you here (unless you intend to, like, jam it in the manager’s eye or something), so you’re a bit stumped. You didn’t go to detective school like the Blonde Phantom clearly did or Cajun wizard school like Remy – you’re just a guy with a really really good sense of smell.

So you head back to your seat, once again using the restroom as an invisibility pit-stop.

When you get back, you find a small hill of noodles and pork heaped at your end of the table, steam rising gently from the arch of its back. It takes considerable self-control to put the urge to eat on hold.

“Hey.” You say, glancing down at Laura’s plate, which is loaded up with dim sum. “Slight problem.”

You tell her what you found, her focus shifting entirely from her food over to you. She nods in silence as you speculate aloud (but not too aloud) that Alicia may have been moved elsewhere by car.

“That is likely.” She states. “It is possible that this place is merely a stopping point, and she was never intended to be kept here. Either way, we should isolate whoever is in charge. They are likely to know the girl’s whereabouts.”

Okay then.

You can think of a few ways of going about that.

>[X] Watch/wait.

You decide on a good old-fashioned stakeout – just like you did at the orphanage, way back when Layla had just met you guys and was like 60-70% more of a butt. This has nothing to do with the fact that this particular approach allows you to sit back, relax, and enjoy an extremely greasy meal.

That’s just a side-effect of the logical choice.

You leave the place feeling thoroughly sated, your flesh warm and your belly full. Even the knowledge that the kitchen is literally right next to some kind of kidnapper dungeon hole does little to mitigate that.

>Hunger Level: 2

Laura picks out a roof on the opposite side of the street, and you carry her up, the shrouding the two of you from sight. She’s almost ridiculously light – you can feel her pulse, smell her, taste the heat that runs from her body, but her presence in your arms is that of a fragile, ghostly being. Seeing her tucked over one of your arms, her entire weight barely weighing upon your shoulder, you’re amazed that she can do the things she does.
>>
>>38202743

How about no?
>>
>(2/2)

The wind is merciless, raking its fingers along the rooftops. Your breath flashes in the air only for a moment before the sky rends it apart, dispersing it into the night. You feel a shiver pass through Laura’s shoulders – her jacket is a lot less puffy and huge than your coat, and, wonderful as that sweater is, it can’t provide all that much protection from New York’s brutal Januaries.

That won’t do.

She glances up at you, a confused look in her eyes, when you don’t put her down upon reaching the roof. Instead you just sit down with her in your lap, zipping your coat up around the both of you. She squirms for a moment, getting herself comfortable, before letting her head loll back against your chest, her eyes closed. Her breath moves slowly through her chest, rising and falling against you, its every tug seeming to bring you closer, to muddle you into one another.

The night turns around you, and not for a second do you feel its bite.

>>38203671

>>
>>38203683

For me it's Kinesics > Wings > OFB, in that order.

Kinesics first because it's an extrapolative too good to get locked out of.
Wings because we only really need to get it to rank 3.
Then OFB, because powering that up to at least Rank 4 would be pretty damn useful for the ability to bend shots in mid-flight.

Optic Force Blasts [level 3]
>At this level, JJ’s force beams can smash reinforced materials and cause significant damage to bones and deep tissue. The beam can be widened to a meter. If shot in standard or lower width, the beams may change direction at one point in their flight.

Wings [level 3]
>At this level, JJ’s arms remain intact, and instead he may spontaneously grow a set of enormous wings from his back.

Sub dermal Bioweave [level 3]
>The strengthening of JJ’s soft tissues continues, making it possible for bullets and other high-powered forms of damage to be slowed significantly before they wreak too much havoc on JJ’s internals

Healing Vitae
>This ability bestows curative properties upon JJ’s blood. Imbibing his blood cells can temporarily boost the capability for healing in a person up to one level below his current Healing Factor level.

Help I can't decide!

>ENHANCED KINESICS [Cost: 3]
>JJ’s senses become attuned to the fine details of human locomotion. He becomes capable of accurately predicting a person’s mood and immediate actions based on the subtle flexes and tensions of their physiology. In some cases this ability can reveal more than just mood, and stops just short of reading another person’s mind.

>and stops just short of reading another person’s mind.

By itself, this ability is great. Combined with Senses 5 it's absolutely incredible. JJ would be able to read every single subtlety in a person's expression, their posture, their heart rate, etcetera. This would not only help with combat, but would probably provide a significant edge in negotiating with people (and considering we usually have JJ at least try to talk things out, it's a god-send).
>>
>>38203896
Well I know 4 would just wreck her, I think 3 would cause some serious damage that we could follow up with something else.

>>38203916
There's also this. Fuck.
>>
>>38203933

I don't think it would.

I will ask on the ask.fm, though, so check that for the answer.

>>38203857
The only problem with Kinesics is that I feel like JJ is overspecializing in hand to hand fighting.

What happens if JJ has to fight Warmachine or for some reason Joyce. JJ's current level of Claws can cut through steel but not the titanium alloys Warmachine and Iron man are make of. Or Joyce's armor. Basically we need some anti-tank abilities.
>>
>>38203961

It probably wouldn't hurt her, but she would be flung pretty far. She's got no special grounding ability or anything that would keep her feet planted.

>>38203973

You act as though Kinesics can only aid in hand-to-hand combat. It can also aid tremendously in avoidance and predicting where a person is going to move (combined with Geointuitive Vision, this could make JJ much more accurate with his force blasts).
>>
>>38203973
Kinesics really shines at talking to people (reading expressions & body language) which is something we do more of. Doesn't hurt to be good at cqc though.
>>
>>38204034

That too. Long term having some heavy artillery might be useful, but I don't think any of us are really trying to push JJ in a direction that would put him in the crosshairs of someone like Warmachine. Kinesics has many useful everyday applications that more offensively-oriented abilities do not.
>>
>>38203973
>>38204014 has the right of it. Also, I want Neuroelectrovision later, which means at least one more level of Electrostatic Touch.

And Electrostatic Touch is easy to turn into a ranged ability now. Just get some conductive wire with a conductive anchor on the end and throw it at somebody from a bullshit angle so they can't dodge it, then apply taserhands to the wire.
>>
>>38203933
>Well I know 4 would just wreck her
No. In the comics, Hellion blasted Kimura with everything he had. Hit her so hard she flew over 27 miles. She landed in crater unharmed. No amount of physical force can hurt her. The only way we could kill her with OFB would be to launch her into space and let her suffocate to death.

>>38204014
Kinesics wont work on Warmachine or Ironman since JJ can't see them under the armor.

Pfft thought of the same thing.
>>
>>38204199

What about focusing to hear their heart beat or the movement of their limbs under the armor?

In any event, most of the enemies JJ would be facing won't be wearing Iron Man tier armor. I tend to prioritize abilities with non-combat applications before combat oriented ones anyway.

You with agility 5 and EMM he could potentially go Chinese Electric Batman route in terms of fighting style.

And I kinda want that.
>>
>>38204422

He'd need at least Rank 3 Electrostatic to be American Electric Lizardman.
>>
>>38203916
