Thrusting your arms forward, you start to channel vys. On a whim, you decide you'll attempt to simulate weather. You create a ball of roiling flame high above the two legions of soldiers, a false sun. Next you begin to condense water vapor from the air, this close to the sea it's a simple task. More difficult is getting the water vapor you collect to form proper clouds rather than merely water vapor. Eventually you manage it by cooling the temperature in the room while raising the general humidity, eroding some of the floor tiles to create dust, and drawing that dust into the air.

You're quite pleased with the result, fluffy white clouds obscure the ceiling and the roiling ball of fire high above, shafts of light piercing through here and there to make for properly dramatic lighting. That done, you set to working on the terrain. Fissures crack the marble tiles, deep canyons opening in the floor on one side of the room. Tiles melt away, reduced to vast stretches of sand dunes interspersed by columns of stone. To really compliment the desert aesthetic you decide to thin the cloud cover, allowing more light to bathe that half of the room. Perhaps so recklessly damaging your only recently repaired ballroom is unwise, but you should be able to easily fix any damage done.

On the other side of the room, ice begins to creep across the floor. Slowly at first, but soon half the room is taken up by a field of ice and snow. You carefully construct a thick forest of evergreens, as you recall seeing them amidst the snow and ice of the northern mountain range. The bristles are difficult to manage with ice, but you're skilled enough to pull it off. Only a thin, winding road passes through the forest, just wide enough to allow a siege engine to pass through. On a whim, you decide to chill the clouds sitting above the portion of the room engulfed in ice in the hopes of making it snow. At first you take it too far, and instead get hail. Fortunately you manage to figure it out with some tweaking.

Now for the fortresses themselves. In the center of the frozen forest, you erect a vast and elaborate fortress. The walls are a foot thick and made of black ice, towers spaced regularly across its surface and archers patrolling the walls. The castle itself towers skyward, a mishmash of foreign and native architecture. You fill the interior of the fortress with buildings and workshops, flames sitting atop watchtowers and columns of smoke curling slowly towards the ceiling from smoke stacks and chimneys. You even manage to create small flames inside buildings so that 'windows' appear illuminated.

Next you enclose the city within a thick dome of ice, rune-carved supports raising from the city to hold up the dome. Of course, you create holes in the dome to allow in natural light, and a sturdy gate at the entrance to ward off any foreign invaders. Overall you feel you've created a rather imposing fortress, it ought to pose a worthy challenge to the forces of Earth.

In the cracked desert on the other half of the room you start to craft a far more traditional fortress. You situate it on a large stone bluff, carving away most of the stone to reveal a domed keep. Most of the fortress is going to be underground, so you create an arched entryway in the base of the stone bluff and two massive gates to keep out any unwanted guest. Holes dot the surface of the keep, crossbowmen watching the approach warily. While perhaps less grand than the ice fortress, you've already mentally designated the forces of Earth as the attacks. Thus, it's not nearly as important that they have an impressive keep. You do furnish them with a variety of onagers, ballistae, and battering rams.

The battle prepared, you separate the two opposing armies and have them march towards their respective fortresses. As the legion of ice soldiers marches towards their fort, additional troops seem to melt out of the forest itself to join their ranks. You've already decided that, as the stone soldiers advance, the water soldiers will be waging a sort of guerrilla war every step of the way. The forest is filled with small bands of archers, swordsmen, and spearmen.

However, the same is true for the stone soldiers as they march towards their own fortress. Reinforcements form themselves from the sand all across the desert and each canyon hides a force of earthen soldiers ready to ambush any passing water-based scum. You also grow and strengthen perhaps a hundred of the stone soldiers, forming a core elite of troops twice as large and twice as hardy as their compatriots.
(3/4)
>>
Overall you'd say that the ice soldiers are far more numerous, but the stone soldiers are of far better quality. Since the stone soldiers will be attacking, the ice soldiers also have the terrain advantage. Total, about twelve hundred figures will be participating in the match, seven hundred made of ice and five hundred made of stone.

We'll save the giant Fire Dragon for the Expansion pack, Terrors of the Past. We'll use the fire Dragon showing up in the middle of a pitched battle between traditional forces after Siege has a stable following thus kick starting a marketing campaign for the new supplements to the game. The new factions will be slightly more expensive and powerful for their point costs and will transition neatly into Siege 2nd Edition.

The introduction of Dragons should alter the status quo, as is appropriate.

>>
>>38218630
Will we make Void Creatures an elite force that has to be summoned by one side but is controlled by a third party and will attack both sides?
Made with Water(ice hail, vapor, for that black)+Fire(illusions, smoke, light to simulate vys)+Earth/Metal(body, dust, etc.)?
Maybe use Sound magic for a leading Void Entity that's high enough rank to be intelligent? Of course, the one who summons the creatures will have to roll dice to find out the severity/danger/etc. and we will have different tables for different environments/Legendary locations(those will be additional content and will come with pre-packaged blueprint/buildplan and unique random events, and local fauna).
>>
>>38218710
Nah, chaotic battle is not good for demonstration, since Siege! is meant to be played in pairs.
>>
>>38218184
>>38218503
Just came here. Also voting for Fire to win after most of the troops killed each other.
>>
>>38218716
Void Creatures should be Event Only, and act as a final boss in a tournament with one or two Game Masters controlling the Entities and a predetermined number of players participate in the battle. Certain venues have different scenarios, some being Free For All Battle Royal scenarios with the Void Creatures as the wild card, some being explicitly Players vs Void and others set up to have Void Creatures appear as a random event due to use of certain dangerous magics used by elite units.
>>
>>38218748
That was more for after our demonstration so that everyone can get a small taste of Seige.

Would really give people a taste of it.
>>
We need to pitch all of these ideas to our Father incase we die in the Pav'ala
>>
>>38218778
We could have a tournament be advertised with "Featuring a new secret addition to the game!" and have it announced that there is a secret artifact hidden in the arena, but no one is told of its function, just with an ominous "make sure you think it through before you use it".
If someone finds it and activates it, we spring the Void on the match, and all following matches will have to deal with the Void being present in that location.
>>
>>38218822
Lovely thought! That way, since the quest will be over, we can think for years about how he is making huge money off of our idea while we are dead.

>>
>>38218830
And thus we introduce the first stage of the Metaplot to Siege!
>>
>>38218778
>>38218830
I like those for tournaments or another demonstration. For now it should be just water and earth (and maybe fire as a latecomer).
If fire arrives before one army is annihilated, earth and water could make a temporary truce to fight against the common enemy.
>>
>>38218892
Right, we just have to remember to dole out the hype and parcel it out for maximum revenue. Fire is meant for 2nd edition if I remember right so having Fire show up at the end of 1st edition in some big tournament or demonstration (perhaps as part of an exhibition) as a means to generate excitement should work well.

So, back to the mutants all gravitating toward the Child activated idol/statue. Are we pretty much agreed that the mutants did that because of the "worship effect"? Similar to how Mik almost wanted to sacrifice his soul to worship the Child when he was in close proximity? Seems as if the lower life forms can be affected the same way by just the Child's presence reflected in the idol.

But, where did all the mutants come from in the first place? What is making mutant creatures in the catacombs? Or did the statue itself create them?
>>
>>38219110
Maybe their smiths?

Looking at their armor they're probably fist vatis

I remember the plan to read every book and learn every effect/meta at the temple.

That was before we even met prof.
>>
>>38219165
Possibly. The Child may have used the statue to enact a small measure of its will on the material world and planned to use the vermin of the city to work as its eyes and ears in the mortal world to find whatever or whoever it came to the region for.

Maybe that's a valid theory but I'm not too certain on anything yet.

>But, where did all the mutants come from in the first place? What is making mutant creatures in the catacombs? Or did the statue itself create them?

It could've been the old masters projects
An abundance of Vys in the underground
Bleed off from the void

The empire that lives in the Nightmare forest and managed to build a civilization, creat Elaudian Steel, make amazing statues and buildings of Metal, be secretive, and create amazing enchanted armors and weapons, as well as said to have "an armor gifted to them by their god".
They're at least Metal and Nature.
PS: Animal control is Vys, not Nature.

According to the Metal codex metal and nature were bitter enemies.
According to what we know the Elaudians had fervorous worshipers of Dhatu and were fighting some unknown enemy.
I think you can infer what's up with the jungles with that.
>>
>>38219320
Of course its speculation. But does anyone think Soma brought the Child into the area around El Amin as just a side note? I think there is a major plot line connected here and the idol/statue confirms that for me. Now just have to figure out the details of what/how/why.
>>
>>38219413
Nah we can just ignore it because there's nothing to act upon until the devils of the details reveal themselves.
>>
>>38219413
Well it was also partly due to a random event roll. I have no doubt Soma is going to make it's presence significant but I do doubt it would be a plot point had we not rolled what we did.

The battle begins with the forces of Earth sallying from their keep on the right side of the room. They form up around the siege engines, their elite troops taking their places at the head and rear of the column. Regular troops take on the task of hauling the siege engines or simply march in formation. The 'General', a figurine larger and more ornate than any of the others, takes the lead and begins to march off across the white desert sands towards the distant snow-covered forest.

Meanwhile, the forces of Water gather at the edge of the forest, along the winding road which leads to their fortress. They're lightly armed and armored, most of them carrying bows. Some of them hide within the branches of trees, others bury themselves in snow. They're an ambush force, doomed to defeat in direct confrontation but quite capable in a skirmish. The main force remains hidden within the massive dome of ice, where you've constructed a bit of a surprise for the besieging forces.

Arrows begin to pepper the stone soldiers from afar as they near the tree-line, a few of their weaker troops dissolving into mud as the arrows strike them. However, for the most part the thin ice shards that serve as arrows merely bounce off the surface of the stone figures, unable to penetrate their hard outer shell. The Stone General orders some of his spearmen into the forest to deal with their attacks, but as they enter the woods they're attacked by swordsmen from above and spearmen from their flanks. They put up an admirable fight, it takes several hits to bring any one down, but eventually they're butchered.

(1/?)
>>
The ice soldiers retreat as the stone army approaches. They continue to harass their enemy, but the rain of arrows abates and they're allowed to enter the forest more or less unmolested. They've lost some troops, but not many, and dealt more losses than they've taken. Despite this early success they advance cautiously, soldiers fanning out to search the woods for any ice soldiers. This proves to be a tactical misstep, as it allows the ice soldiers to pick them off slowly, one by one, without the knowledge of their comrades.

As the last of the Earthen column passes beyond the treeline, the forces of Water collapse a few of the trees lining the road to block off retreat. Simultaneously at the head of the column more trees collapse, blocking advance. In an instant the forest is alive with activity, swordsmen bursting from beneath the snow to attack the stone army. Spearmen flood out of the woods while archers, hidden in the boughs of trees, unleash a hail of arrows.

Even with the ranged support and the terrain advantage, the melee quickly turns in favor of Earth. Even if the forces of Water have managed to split the army in two, for each earthen warrior they defeat they lose three or four of their number. Eventually the losses are unsustainable and the ambushes retreat, vanishing into the forest. The ground, once covered in a thick layer of snow, has become a field of ice as the puddles that were once soldiers freeze over.

Some of the elite stone troops manage to clear out the fallen trees blocking their path and the column, much reduced but far from defeated, marches onward. The scattered ambushers are too busy trying to regroup to launch another attack as the column of besiegers marches onward, even if other pockets of guerrillas continue to harass the column as they march down the road.

When finally a battered and bruised army reaches the fortress of ice, they quickly set about preparing and loading their siege weapons. A battering ram under heavy guard advances towards the gate as onagers begin to hurl boulders about the size of undried dates at the massive glacial dome that protects the city within. They crash against the ice, spreading thin cracks across its surface. Ballistae begin flinging massive stone bolts, which embed themselves in the ice and further weaken the dome.

The elite troops have formed up around the siege engines to protect them from the predation of any lingering ambushers. However, no attack is forthcoming. Arrows do fly from the forest at irregular intervals, but they mostly target the forces of normal soldiers, who have been shown to be vulnerable against the skirmishers' arrows. Even as the stone ram begins to batter against the great gates of the city, the ice soldiers do not move to attack either it or the main army.

Eventually the cracks in the dome grow too deep, and large sections begin to collapse onto the city below. The gates continue to hold firm, but they're showing signs of weakening. They're spiderwebbed by a complex network of cracks, which at any moment might give way under the ceaseless assault of the battering ram. However, as victory for the forces of Earth seems increasingly certain, a massive frozen fist punches through the dome, sending shards of ice raining down on the enemy army.

(3/?)
>>
As the stones continue to rain down on the dome of ice, a second fist punches through the dome and grasp the edge, breaking off a massive chunk and shoving it outward, letting it tumble down onto the battering ram below. There's a tremendous crash as the stone is crushed beneath the ice, the soldiers which had been working the ram scattering. A head emerges, followed by a torso. It forces its way through the dome kicking and thrashing, causing a massive amount of damage to both armies as the golem frees itself from the dome.

The ambushers choose that moment to attack, pouring out of the forest from all sides to clash with the stone army. The Stone General seems to order a retreat, but his orders are lost in the chaos. He's engaged from all sides, his escape cut off. Even as they cut down frozen warriors left and right, more stream from the woods and from the now open gates of the city, sheer numbers overwhelming the regular stone soldiers quickly.

However, the elites continue to fight even as their army crumbles. That is, until the golemn finally frees itself from the dome and begins to take massive, loping strides towards the battlefield where the two armies are engaged. The siege weapons are turned towards the golem, which is roughly the size of a toddler. Bolts embed themselves all across its body and boulders slam into its torso, but it remains undetered.

It swings one leg forward, destroying a swathe of its allies before finally bringing it down on the elite stone soldiers. They're crushed beneath it's weight, helpless against the massive creature. It slams one of its hands down, turning an onager into a pile of ruble. In a matter of moments the battle is over, a victory for the forces of Water.

(4/?)
>>
However, the match is not yet over. The forces of water must still elimnate those troops in the desert which stayed behind to guard against a counter attack. They quickly gather into a disorganized horde as their golem marches forward, tearing a path through the forest heedless of trees which block its path. The horde follows behind it, creating a cacophony of noise by clattering their weapons together as they advance upon the earthen fortress.

When the golem finally reaches the desert sands that mark the lands of Earth, it seems to have difficulties properly walking. It stumbles, and trips, but manages to keep its feet on the shifting sands. Beads of moisture form across its surface, now exposed to the heat of the roiling flame far above. The fissures which cover the earth do nothing to help its balance, and even as it continues to advance it seems doomed to collapse. Several times the golem falls, kicking up sand and causing the ground to shake, but each time it manages to stand once more.

The horde following it manage to make quick work of most enemies they come across, though most of the stone soldiers have retreated into the fortress proper to prepare a defense. As the golem and the army following it begin to close in on the largely underground fortress, the golem finally begins to give out. As it raises one arm to smash into the great arched dome of the fortress, the shoulder joint gives way and the arm falls off, slamming into the horde of troops beneath it. The frozen warriors scatter as the golem collapses to one knee, ultimately falling forward and smashing through the ceiling of the stone fortress.
>>
Fortunately this is enough to provide the entrance the ice soldiers need to finish the job. They charge into the fortress, taking dozens of losses from enemy crossbow bolts in the process. Though they make a valiant effort, the forces of stone are simply outnumbered by too wide a margin. They're ultimately defeated, the last stragglers surrendering rather than find themselves hacked to death by the frozen rabble.

You dispel the roiling ball of fire which rest high above the ballroom floor, the clouds melting away slowly and light returning to the room. Lowering the humidity and raising the temperature to normal levels are both challenging task, but you manage it with little issue. It's easy enough to turn the ice half of the ballroom back to normal. All you have to do is melt the ice and then evaporate the resulting pool of water. However, fixing the Earth half of the room is a more difficult proposal.

You end up enlisting the help of Fulvia and Chrys in the end. Your reserves are terribly drained after all, and they're quite talented Earth vatis both. The three of you together are able to restore the ballroom floor to the same pristine condition it was in when your guest first arrived, though the effort takes a lot out of you.
>Vys Pool: (4/49)

Your exhausted, and more than that you've managed to burn long, ugly gouges into the flesh of your forearms. They spiral out past your elbow, forming strange and oddly mesmerizing designs. You'd admire them in more detail were they not incredibly painful. Thankfully they're not bleeding much, the wounds are mostly cauterized.

For a man who professes to having only met a handful of Elaudians he certainly has formed strong opinions of them. Finally he tosses out another useful tidbit though. “One of them mentioned some ancient sort of armor they'd found in one of those old temples, but when I asked to see it he wouldn't let me! They even threatened to attack me when I tried to force my way inside! Can you believe the audacity of it? Apparently it was a gift from some 'Dhatu' figure. They called him the Many-Faced Constant.”

Honestly, I'd rather anons be delusional about us being able to do that, compared to anons being delusional about us being able to revive Prthvi.
At least Dhatu is just sleeping, so there's a chance for it, however incredibly small it is, compared to the near zero chance of resurrecting Prthvi.
Maybe we'd just have to kill everyone in El-Amin at once, it's said that the death of a vatis releases a burst of vys, and it was said that this might be noticable by spirits, and the Codex said not to do this because single mortals are beneath the notice of Dhatu, and there are like 200 vatis in El-Amin, there's no other place where we'd find more of them and a better chance at waking Dhatu, except for magic fuckery of a caliber that we can't even imagine.
Maybe related to how Prthvi's cultists managed to craft a mask that transports the wearer's soul to a tomb that holds the actual corpse of Prthvi. And I have absolutely no idea on how they actually managed to do that.

>The only element he's left off is Metal, though there's an underlined note in the top corner that simply reads 'Metal = Reinforce'.
>You look first at the helmet, which according to the notes unlocks 'The Sight' when pure vys is channeled into it. When Water magic is used instead, it results in the ability to breath underwater just as one would on land. Fire results in immunity to poisonous or otherwise unpleasant air of any sort. Nature allows one to 'access surface thoughts: tricky'. At least, that's the way the Varistha put it. You wish he'd expounded a bit further on what 'tricky' entails. Finally, Earth allows one to see through solid objects as if they simply did not exist.
>The torso seems to mostly have enchantments related to physical abilities. Raw vys will enhance all of your physical abilities to some extent. Fire will enhance your strength and speed, at the expense of stamina and mental coherence. Water will allow you to more easily bend and flow around attacks, but seems to detriment one's strength and physical toughness. Earth is the opposite, it allows one to whether even the most powerful of blows, but you'll be hard pressed to move an inch while channeling Earth magic. Nature doesn't seem to do anything, unfortunately
>The boots seem to have paired enchantments, a note in the margins mentions that you can't channel vys into one boot without channeling it into the other as well. The gauntlets and pauldrons are likewise paired. The enchantments for both are fairly similar, the only difference being the delivery of the attack. Channeling fire will wreath either your boots or gauntlets in flame. Channeling water will freeze whatever you strike. Channeling Earth will rapidly erode whatever it is you touch. Channeling Nature allows you to more easily manipulate the movements of plantlife
I wonder if wearing this during normal meditations if it will help out?

It's a shame we only learned of Fleshcrafting IC after finishing our GM stuff, there's probably other aspects of water we missed out on too.
Which reminds me, can we all agree not to GM any of the elements until we get all of them to at least Master level, and ideally to half-GM level? It'd minimize the disadvantage hitting our limit will cause.

Anon act your age not your shoe size
>>
You hide your arms within your sleeves for now, collapsing into the cushions of your throne. You announce to the room as a whole. “Would someone fetch me my cloak and a glass of that chilled white wine? I'm absolutely exhausted.” Your master starts to clap his hands, then your father, and before you know what's happening the room has erupted into applause. Even tired as you are, you can't help but feel proud of yourself. The audience isn't as large as the one you gathered in the arena at the temple, but you know each and every person here. It means more, to know they enjoyed your show.

One of your slaves slips out the door, while another pours you a cup of white wine. You take the cup gratefully, nodding your head in thanks, even as your guest begin to crowd around your throne. You're assaulted by a stream of questions, most of them about how you came up with this, why you had to have Water win when they had money on Earth, whether or not you can teach them how to use your method, and other such details.

You hold up one hand, begging pause as you take a long draught from your wine cup. Gradually the questions abate, allowing you the opportunity to speak. “Please, one at a time my friends. At least until I can refill my reserves. Now then, questions?”

Your friend Ismail is the first to speak up. “Can you teach me this method of yours? It seems as if it would make for a wonderful meditation technique.”

You reply wearily. “Perhaps, Ismail. Perhaps. It is actually a game a business associate and I thought up based on a meditation technique he used. I hope to begin distributing rule books in El-Amin soon, I'd be more than happy to gift yo ua copy.” After all, word of mouth is the best form of advertising. If your friends and their former Masters, powerful and influential Vatis each, sing the praises of Siege! to the Vatis community you're sure to make a fortune once the books hit the shelves.

Master Barakat is the next to speak up. “How did you manage to simulate weather indoors? I must admit I've never seen a water Vatis do that.”

You shrug your shoulders. “It was a matter of trial and error. Clouds and fog are merely water vapor, after all. I just needed to manipulate the conditions in the room to facilitate cloud formation. Once the clouds themselves had formed the weather was easy.”

Hadia chooses to speak up, it's actually the first time the two of you have spoken all night. “You said this was a game, yes? How many players would you recommend for a match, and are all the elements aloud or just those elements which can easily be made physical?”

You consider your answer briefly, since the question is slightly more in depth than others. “I would say that two players is ideal, but I'll admit I've never played a game with three or four, or more players at the same time. It may be interesting and fun. Regardless, for the first edition of the game only Earth, Water, and Metal factions are available, although players are more than allowed to create units with Fire or Nature magic. They're merely not supported in the rules. We have plans for a second edition which will rectify this.”

You answer a handful of other questions before you slave gets back with your cloak. You take it gratefully and reach inside, grabbing the hilt of your Shockwave Sword and leeching the stored vys within. You fill your reserves to a level you feel comfortable with, and at the same time take a moment to heal the wounds which spread across the skin of your forearms. When it's all said and done, you feel immensely better.

You drape your cloak over the armrest of your throne, chatting idly with your guest about the game's mechanics, the factions, and your plans for the future of the game. Eventually your father approaches, a contemplative look on his face. Your guest distance themselves to allow you and your father some privacy. “I must admit, Mikhael. I'm impressed. There certainly seems to be a market for a game such as yours, and if there isn't now, there certainly will be soon.”

He glances towards the ballroom, where Master Karim and Master Padma have set up their own little miniature Siege! match, except instead of two armies trying to capture one another's fortress they're just having two giant golems punch each other senseless, one made out of ice and the other made out of stone. Your master is obviously cheating by repairing his golem each time it's damaged, but so is Padma. You just hope she has the good grace to repair your floor once they're done.

Your father turns his attention once more towards you. “If you can get word to this associate of yours, I'd be happy to help distribute your game within Pidjata. I'd ask only a modest twenty percent of the profits in exchange for my assistance.” That means that either you or Demetrios would need to take thirty percent, or you could both take forty. Seems a bit steep, to you.

Isn’t this about distributing a rule-book for a game that only a small group of people even is capable of playing, and that can be played just fine without the rule-books (or with a single rulebook for dozens of people) in a single single big city and surrounding small cities?

I mean, I can see it generating thousands of gold eventually, but by that time we have gained and spend multitudes of that in simple transactions of loot, money and equipment. And any percentage improvements there will be far greater impact than a few percent in this Siege! business.

"Dear father I must admit your offer takes me off guard, surely at 20% return you are offering to cover the overhead of the creation and shipment of the physical merchandise to Pidjata as well which while most generous seems to be asking a bit too much of you for such a new venture. Surely my associate will handle the logistics of import and leave you only the light burden of distribution with a generous return of 10% of sales for your efforts. Though perhaps once it takes off as we are both sure it will, a deeper partnership can be arranged, maybe even joint projects for production of exclusive paraphernalia to send to foreign lands at luxurious rates with an even more favorable return for your assistance. Possibly even leaving the lion's share of that venture's profits in your capable hands."

Hope it doesn't suck too bad. The goal is to propose 10% and aim for 15% of course with maybe the added promise of him helping fund future endeavors similar to the Lapis figures idea we had. Making an exclusive series of rare and valuable pieces manufactured only in Pidjata and with a large portion of those profits funneled towards our father.

Almost everyone can use some magic. Controlling hundreds of small figures reliably seems to me to be something you’d need to be at least vatis level though.

But that’s not so important. The vote is already over. I asked because I was confused by so many voting for something that didn’t seem reasonable to me, which is unusual in this quest. Thanks for telling me.
>>
>>38222627
I don't want to connect the future sales of game accessories and paraphernalia with this immediate negotiation for distribution rights. These are 2 separate things and we want to keep them that way...for now.

That way, we have more leverage in the future once he sees how popular the game is and sees the profit potential. Lets take this one step at a time to maximize our profits and advantage.
>>
>>38222670
There are about 200 Vatis level vatis in El-Amin, and this is not a martial art sport, this is flashy, and I bet it'll pull in a lot of non-vatis as well who will want to bet and follow their favorites.
In fact, I'd wager that this will make magic even more popular and increase the number of vatis in the city, as people will learn magic because they were motivated by Siege! games and wanted to participate.
>>
>>38222095
"Firstly, a twenty percent fee for distribution is ridiculous for Siege!. To expand further on our last discussion and some of the questions I've answered for my guests, the labor put into the making of the manuals is costly in effort for the Vatis performing it, and so it similarly to my partner in Anthus. You also have to take into account transportation to Pidjata from Anthus, which is not completely a minor concern.
Editions or other materials pertaining to Siege! will always have the costly combination of their making and transporting them here for distribution, ensuring that there's no small risk on myself and my partners end of the bargain. Basically, it's fairly riskier to distribute it throughout Pidjata in the first place for us, and the profit margin for selling it is something that must reflect that.
At 20% for distribution, that is not something possible. I'd easily say an even 10%, considering all the *risks involved, and taking out insurance for manuals as trade goods isn't all that promising a proposition given our neighbor's tendencies.

*Aghtaki's/Bandits/Degenerates by land, Pirates/Privateers/Degenerates by sea. He doesn't need to know we have a special item that makes transportation silly easy.
>>
>>38222846

The game after all was very entertaining to the non-players, it's also something of a spectator sport, and having that basis in magic makes it that much better.

I wonder if we can set up a professional circuit and use it to sell figures of the most popular players? Make them unique units, and if we want to take it a step further have a "Signature Series" that has the Vatis in question help with the construction and sign the base of the figure (by carving it supposedly) for a percentage of the figure's sales.
>>
>>38222928
It could also help us make a deal with Kadir, to have some official endorsement/advertisement/free-of-charge-arena-use, because popularizing Siege! will increase the number of Vatis, which means he gets more employees.
It will also strengthen the Vatis community, of which we will be an influential figure of at that point, so we will have a possible avenue of support if we ever need to do a coup or war against invaders or something.

Tell him, that even non vatis can do it, as long as he has some vatis make the figure so that the peasants and non magic people can use it.
Tell him making figures are dirt cheap with a vatis.
Tell him,we could easily cut back the cost on book making, by having our friend make something(remember most books are expensive because that shit is hand written, but if we have SK make the printing press, than that would help making books cheaper for him)

These ones open up opportunities for him to gut us.

>Also tell him we have more business opportunities lined up after this one.
>Tell him, how we can easily milk people by making multiple additions, and how this can be used for entertainment, to make even more profit.
We used both of these the last time we discussed the matter.

You're right, I was wrong, there are 200 GMs alone in El-Amin, so I'd estimate vatis to be at least 2000, but probably more like 5000.
>>
>>38223041
We need to invent the patent or some shit ahead of time for SK. He should make a killing off of his inventions (and we should get a small totally fair backer's fee as we help him secure a monopoly on his inventions).

Yeah, I'd say like, 75% for us, that seems about fair, considering that there isn't even a patent system involved and we will be very influential at this point.
Really, getting non-enchanted technology for sewage/plumbing/extracting salt from sea water will be one of the most important contributions to El-Amin in the last millenia, I think, we will have to take responsibility for it, SK can just hang back at our estate and enjoy the fruits of the business, we will hire him some degenerate whores. We may be friends and all, but I don't doubt Skull Kid would put a bomb in our bed if he felt like we were screwing him. We can probably get rich off of him and him be cool with it, just so long as we make sure he's taken care of too. Make sure he goes in the history books and doesn't want for shit and he'd probably be happy yeah.

>>38223260
I will also submit again that we got him in contact with the Grand Vizier, and we will be in contact with Kadir for our unbanishment, which can be used as an excuse for a festival, which can be used to, once again, advertise, maybe in the Arena, a tournament between Grandmasters that we will oversee personally.

Here is an idea from a book.
「Official seal?」

「Having an official seal shows the support of a well-known person. With this, even if someone can make fakes, their numbers will decrease sharply. At any rate, forging an official seal means committing a crime.」

In comparison to having a criminal record, making forgeries isn't just worth it.

Furthermore, there's the danger of being discovered in one shot when prompted to confirm.

There are no merchants who wanted to get involved in that, I think.

「I-I see certainly if it's like that....」

「There are other benefits too. Publish the fact that a well-known person uses it. Then, everyone will want to buy Malton-san's Reversi. If a famous person uses it, people will have more faith in it. Above all, it's human nature that they will want to own the same thing.」

In other words, it was a proposal to『create a brand』.

According to a certain well-known person,『A brand is a tool to aid people who don't understand what is a『good thing』in making a decision』.

Although the concept of『brand』is weak in this world, it's not hard to propagate. Next, I propose some points of improvement for Reversi.
>>
>>38223384
I'm just saying, anon.
We brought him to this world, saving him from his own, we gave him all the money he has, we provide him a residence, we will give him the capital needed to start his projects, we're the one with the connections, and we speak the language.

Let's leave it at Vatis because Earth was the Entities Element, plenty of other things to focus on until we get that thing out of our head. Alternatively it's already out of our head by the time we have metal and nature at master and then we can.

You pause halfway whilst raising your cup to your lips, slowly lowering the cup to your lap and staring at your father as if he'd grown a second head. As the silence starts to grow comfortable, you speak. “Twenty percent, father? To distribute the game? I assume you're also offering to handle production and transportation as well, for a cut that large.”

He opens his mouth to speak, but you cut him off. “Sadly I think putting such an immense burden on your shoulders after recent events would be asking too much. To be clear, my associate and myself will handle the copying and importation. All you need to do is sell the books. Considering I've already handled advertising, I think three percent would be more than fair.”

Your father smiles. It's a cruel, predatory smile. “Ah, my son. You clearly don't know much about tariff law. That's okay, you've not been in business very long. It's perfectly understandable. Allow me to enlighten you, the cost of importing goods into El-Amin are prohibitively expensive unless you traffic in a select few goods such as lumber, grain, or slaves. You'll be facing thirty percent tax on the value of your goods, and knowing how expensive books can be I'm sure the cost will be quite steep indeed.”

Your father holds up a finger, begging pause. “However, were you to allow me to copy the books locally there would be no need for you to worry about the cost of importing goods. There would be no transportation fees or taxes to worry about. Not to mention you won't have to worry about finding translators to copy the text in Samjan. Knowing how rare it is to find Samjan outside of Pidjata, I'm sure it would prove quite costly to employ a translator for such a large project.”

>>
>>38224791

That shit exponentially increases each time.
>>
Your father raises some good points, though you're still not willing to give him a whopping twenty percent of profits. Not only that, but twenty percent of total profits, not just profits in Pidjata. “Even if you were to handle production as well, twenty percent is still a ridiculous fee. I would say eight percent of the profit from the Pidjatan market would be fair compensation for the work you'd be doing.”

Your father counters with. “Ahh, but without me could there even be a Pidjatan market? I have the connections built up over decades of business that allow me to spread your game to the furthest corners of Pidjata. I can even get your book on shelves in the Samrajya of Kulkarni. If we're talking about a share of profits from the Pidjatan market, I think a thirty-sixty split in your favor would be fair for everyone.”

You shake your head. “Twelve percent is the highest I would seriously consider. Ignoring the fact that there wouldn't be a game in the first place without my associate and myself, keep in mind I'm wealthy enough that I could handle this myself and keep a hundred percent of the profit. The only reason I don't is because it's more effort than I'm willing to put in at this time. Perhaps, in the future, we could discuss bringing you into the business as a co-owner or otherwise increase your involvement, but for now I really don't think such a large cut is feasible.”

Your father sighs, folding his arms over his chest. “The lowest I'll take is sixteen percent of the Pidjatan market to produce and distribute the books. If you ask that I take anything less, you can find yourself a different distributor. I wouldn't even offer a price this low were you not my own blood.”

To clarify something about limits, I'll give an example.

Say someone's limit is GM, and they reach GM. They'll have a -2 to ALL further ELEMENTAL meditation rolls, regardless of what level they're attempting to reach. They hit GM a second time, -4. Third, -8. Fourth, -16. If they managed to reach five time GM they'd have a -32, although it wouldn't really apply to anything.

Say someone's limit is Master. They reach Master, that's -2. GM, that's -4. Master another element, -8, GM, -16. If someone's limit is Expert, then they'd have a -8 after reaching their first Grandmastery. -64 if they managed to reach a second.

>little talent for it
kek, he has shown tons of potential, just no motivation to actually meditate.
>>
>>38225122
I see no reason not to.
>>
>>38225100
I doubt it since normal sanmaji can only reach, which is far better than the humans and elves.
Apprentice level.
Her limit is either expert or vatis.
>>
>>38225204
Yeah I'm sure he'd rather prefer living in a city where his kind are considered degenerates.
>>
>>38225124
>Is there a way to definitely confirm what each of our Companions' "limits" are?
Soma confirmed getting good in nature would, but that also implies our master can.
Also our master did tell us about mortias and SK vys levels.
>>
>>38225204
SK's dream is to become famous for his inventions. That's not gonna happen without some help from our dad. I don't see why him working with our dad and working with us is mutually exclusive
>>
>>38225234
normal samjani are expected to get Vatis or Expert in a couple elements by the time they die/retire.get old. More so for nobles and military and shit.
>>
>>38225230
When?
>>
>>38225213
>considering what little effort it'd take to set up a printing press in our own estate and translate the text on our own
Like seriously, that's like literally a single thread, get the material for SK, have him and Fulvia build it while we translate the book, and make a deal with a family to provide us ink and paper.
Literally a single thread.
I'm also fucking pissed that a Great Success only got us to 16%, I mean what the fuck? I guess choosing the 10% option would have been accepted anyway.
>>
>>38225204
I almost sure that SK is going to stay behind to dick around his forge regardless of everything.
>>
>>38225281
Literally every time he meditated. I don't remember an occasion when he didn't get his insight.
>>
>>38225249
Plenty of other humans seem to be fine with it.
>>
>>38225280
Soma, could you comment on this please? It sounds like it's wrong.
>>
>>38225249
Everyone here seems to like him well enough
>>
>>38225281
whenever he uses magic is is always potent shit.

Every time he actually meditates he usually gets an insight.

When we make him meditate it goes great
>>
>>38225308
Not hard to get insights when you are at a level as low as he was.
>>
Does Mik even know about printing presses? This whole discussion seems awfully meta to me. Unless SK comes and gives suggestion himself there's no reason for Mik to believe that such things exist.
>>
>>38225330
Whenever he uses his magic he uses a magic arm that was grafted on to him by an ancient race of super scientists/mages.
>>38225369
Mik has been to future land anon.
>>
>>38225319
A link so soma can see.
>>38225099
>>38225369
We can easily ask him if there is a way to cheapen the cost.
SK is meta incarnate really.
>>
>>38225330
>insight
You mean like with Darzi and Chrys?
The potent magic is literally only because of his arm, he was baby tier otherwise.
>>
>>38225369
"Yo SK I need something to make books fast. K?"
>>
>>38225399
The arm modification isn't just physical, they modified his soul and Vys reserves too.

>>38225394
Not always, just most of the time.
>>
>>38225369
Even if he doesn't, he can still assume and bluff.
I'd like to just say "we'll discuss it with our advisor" and get back to him later, to be able to talk with SK.
>>
>>38225394
>Mik has been to future land anon.
Yeah but he didn't see any printing presses. Their books were all digital.

>>38225369
He knows in a general sense and I think I might of had him mention it off hand at some point. Anyway, I have a plan for him to bring it up at some point in the near future.
>>
>>38225435
What was the last bit of magic he did without the arm?
>>
>>38225516
He helped shape the castle in the beach episode.
>>
>>38225550
I thought he was passed out drunk. And if he wasn't everyone helped with that. What was the last thing he did on his own?
>>
>>38225550
I'm honestly impressed you remembered that.
>>
>sk stole my SCIENCE dreams
>Mortia stole my ALCHEMY dreams
>we will never do these things because hurr durr why do when someone else can do
>>
>>38225613
Actually we will never do those things because we still don't know shit about either of them
>>
>>38225613
Everyone has to specialize, man. Can't just be jack of all trades Grandmaster of none.
>>
>>38225613
>We still have our SPIRIT dream anon, it will be ok
>>
Shit we about to 404. Next post in new thread.
>>
>>38225550
He didn't, he got pissed afterwards when he saw his statue was lazing about.
