You name is Elizabeth. There are those who call you "Liz" but you allow this. Only one or two things actually "call" you anything and really they make so much nonsense noise it tends to blend together.

You are a proud 5 year old adult. Well respected as a pillar of the local community. You are surely the envy of the prodding cold noses, the haughty cold noses, and stand above all the lizards and snake living in their glass nooks. You spend a respectable amount of time being an iguana, and the rest of your time is spent being an iguana in a slightly warmer spot, preferably with some nice direct sunlight.

It's safe to say you live the good life. You have a glass nook of your own to live in, frequently supplied with delicious greens, and bearing a tiny sun to bask under when the weather is poor. And you can freely climb out and have your run of the territory. Occasionally the fingery ones even spray you with a light mist of water water on the off chance you were feeling any discomfort in the slightly drier than you'd prefer air. Once or twice the short fingery one has attached a line to you and has taken you outside with them to sit on a nice rock and bask in the true sun, unimpeded by glass or curtains as lizard god intended.

Yes you live an excellent life. Everyday you meet you basic needs and bask to your hearts content. Today though is special. Today a fingery one has been kind enough to leave the portal to the outdoors open while they carry chewy square rocks in and out. This strikes you as an excellent opportunity to go out and enjoy the sun properly. You may even get an opportunity to meet some of the other things living in your territory!

As you walk out the door you immediately catch sight of one of the many neighbors you have yet to meet. It's some kind of large bird. A rather handsome fellow, for a bird, an irregular black and white striping all over that gives a nice mottled look, topped by bright red head flesh. He walks back and for with a high kicking step, you're pretty sure there's a word for it a lizard once told you. Something to do with ducks? It's still very impressive looking though.

Well you've looked at him that should serve as a social introduction. Or maybe not, he's spotted you and is turning this way. Oh wow he suddenly got really big! Oh crap claws, why are his claws so large? How does he wa- ow ow ow

oh ow

pain ow

"No Hitler no! Get off her!"

Ow, was that one the fingery ones? Ow. The bird appears to have decided to leave you alone now. You barely catch sight of it as it flaps off and starts chasing the fingery one, who does quick turn around and flees before you close your eyes to try and block out some of the pain. Your body hurts and you can feel blood pooling around you. Surprisingly cold...

Ah, well at least the sun is warm. You can spend your last few moments waiting for the end in warmth at least.

You can just drift away.

Wait.

Hold on a second you feel like you're being compressed. Like something is trying to find a niche to shove you in. The first several are full and you feel the focus shift and you're stuck in a couple more "niches," several already full, before you feel some that fit better

>this fits but what is it, warm and fleshy, oh hey what just touched you, did something just touch you? What is this?

>now I'm cold. It sort of reminds you of the hazy period before you hatched but more pliable. Less secure and shielded

>Okay, now this you recognize. This is almost exactly like the egg you were born in. You're a little cramped and your body seems to be in slightly the wrong order but, y'know what...

[2/3]
>>
>>38226118
you delierately shove away from the sensation pulling you between niches and stay in this one. It feels right. Screw the other options this feels like the most lizard thing.

After a few moments you settle in and the haze of other options fades from memory. Oh hey, memories neat. You remember being an iguana, best of all lizards. That was great. Though you don't think you were thinking as deeply as you are now. Come to think of it you don't recall contemplating your own existence in any meaningful manner before. This is weird... the cramped darkness you're stuck in isn't helping.

How to escape egg?
>Claw your way from the inside out! You're fairly certain you've got something like claws
>Wiggle. Maybe if you just get turned around you can get some better leverage.
>Actually just sit and enjoy the very little light penetrating the shell. You can feel the warmth all around you.

>Actually just sit and enjoy the vey little light penetrating the shell. You can feel the warmth all around you.

You decide to do some pre-hatch basking. Never underestimate the power of proper bask. Carefully you align your thoughts, then you realign them for the sheer novelty of it. Whatever the heck is going on its done a number on your... brain? Wow there's a word for the grey head stuff! That's awesome! You even know the word!

After a short while exploring your newfound mental ability you realize that it's probably a bit brighter in this egg than it should be. You should probably get out before too long and find out whose trying to cook you out.

You struggle a bit before recalling that an egg tooth is a thing and start trying to dig your way out with your face. An inner layer tears away and you feel the hardest bit of your body you're aware of scrape against outer shell.

Roll 1d100 to escape egg (because after the last few rolls I'm not sure you can...)

You push against the next layer and flex. Immediately the egg breaks out of your way and you find your head free and staring at something that resembles another lizard.

No it's another lizard you're just upside down. You thrust out of the egg so hard it tipped onto your back. The other lizard steps forward and sniffs before a set of RAPTOR JESUS FUCK HUGE CLAWS OH GOD LIZARD NOT AGAIN.

You wiggle for your life and smash your egg into little bits around you in your haste. Behind you you hear a soft voice say something about not helping in an admonishing tone before it turns into puffs of laughter at your antics. Running across the shallow next box your egg in and diving across the edge to hide behind the lip of it.

Gathering your courage you peer over the lip to see a MASSIVE lizard sitting next to the box puffing with laughter while the your-size lizard looks at you curiously.

After a moment your new brain hands down the knowledge that what you saw was NOT a giant bird here to dispense from massive claws but just a bigger lizard. But then it also says it's the same kind of lizard as you so you're not sure how trustworthy it is. You've never seen a baby anything grow to be a hundred times the size it was fresh out of the egg.

Still, you're not one to let a single traumatic experience rule your everyday actions. Just when you're surprised and confused.

Remounting the weird box you take a better look now. Yes that's a rather large lizard lady. Her arms seem rather long and oddly placed for walking but she's definitely a lizard. She's not unattractive as non-iguanas go either come to think of it. She wears thin metal bands on her limbs attached to strings of beads feathers and a couple of shiny things you'd like another look at. You also notice she's got a couple pieces of cloth stretched around her.

She lets out a final laugh before waving for you to come over.

"Comes closer little one. No need to take fright. Be careful of your brothers and sisters. Mustn't step on them."

You give her a look and then trundle your way back around the side of the egg box.The sides are thick enough for you to walk around without hopping up and down off of it again. This is helpful as your limbs seem a bit unwieldy now that they're no longer driving themselves in instinctual running in terror. But you end up before your sibling before long and find yourself the subject of intense scrutiny as the lady lizard flips you about and looks you over before nodding to herself.

"Now stays still and watch little one. There are others still to come, no?"

>Watch the eggs hatch

You focus your attention on the eggs. All eight of them. They immediately do nothing of interest. They repeat this for several minutes.

This rapidly becomes boring but luckily your skill at basking is of the highest grade. A skill which allows you to easily spend long periods of time standing in one spot doing very little of anything so long as the conditions are right. And they are right.

The box, and it's occupants, are placed in a shaft of light coming from the cieling. A hole opened to allow the sun to shine down onto them. This leads you to believe it must be near high noon until you notice the hole has a mirrored panel on it that can be shifted to allow sun to shine down on the nest at any time. Judging by its position now it's actually late afternoon.

Further assisting the warmth of the nesting box is a weird fibrous plant like material that's laid over and inside it that seems to hold heat quite well. It's all you can do not to wade in among the eggs and make yourself comfortable in the sun and warmth. You make do with the edge next to your brother, oh hey it is a brother, you hadn't noticed. His attention span is apparently better than yours.

Before too long one of the eggs begins to wobble a bit. You almost step in for a closer look but gentle claws settle to hold you back. A moment later you have a sister, and she finds herself called over for her own lizardhandling. She chooses to doze instead of paying attention to this riveting scene. You're almost tempted to join her.

>[1/2]
>>
>>38228901

[2/2]

Luckily the pace of egg hatching seems to have picked up and no sooner has your sister started dozing than another egg moves. A brother emerges and isn't done being checked before another egg drops its contents into the nest, another sister.

As the sunsets above you the large lizardwoman behind you apparently gives up her post and closes the hole in the cieling. She nudges your sleeping sister awake again and looks as though she is ready to speak when she stops. There's a last egg wiggling in the nest.

"So late, little one. Now comes hurry out of there. There are things to do."

After a couple more minutes of movement the egg in question stops. The woman looks surprised but shrugs it off. She instructs you all to wait while she fetches something.

>Wait. You have nothing else to do.
>Climb into the nest box proper. Investigate the egg formerly known as wiggly

You flop into the box. Devil take these newborn limbs! Behind you your siblings hover at the edge of the box watching you with varying degrees of interest.

The egg is a sturdy white thing of excellent construction. It's an egg alright. You put an ear to it and hear nothing but you think you can feel weight shifting as you put your graspers on it.

You can hear the lady lizard moving around in what is apparently a room ajoined to this one.

Let no one say you stood idly by while there were things to be discovered in a warm spot where you kind of wanted to stand anyway. As you crawl up on the egg to get some leverage your older brother let's out a hoarse squeak and looks anxious. But he's not coming down here to stop you.

Your claws push into the egg. And then are shrugged off. That's... disheartening. Your claw muscles aren't strong enough to stay on target when you apply pressure yet. You try biting it, nope that didn't work either. Too big.

Sliding down the egg you turn around as quickly as you can and whip it as hard as you can with your tail. You're rewarded with a light crack and the top of the egg pushing in a little. There's a momentary worry you hit it too hard but that should be where the air bubble was... Should be... Unless the wiggling shifted it...

At least your tail is sturdy in this body. Good 'ole reliable tail.

You turn around to finish digging the egg open but stop as the top lifts off as a nose pokes at it from within.

Oh hey, it's alive. IT'S ALIVE! Hahahaha. You let out a few hissy cackles then wonder why you did that...

Anyway it's moving so your work here is done. You sit back and let the warmth of the nest flow into you. Mm...

Somewhere behind you someone coughs. Then they do it again more firmly. After the third cough you decide they're probably having some trouble and you should probably check on them. You turn and find the lady lizard is back. Wait... is she supposed to be your Mom? She was watching the nest. It'd make sense.

"Trying to get your Auntie Sarissa into trouble already, no, little one?" she looks at the late bloomer slowly but surely prying itself out of its, oh it's a he, his shell. "I suppose I can't punish you for breakin' a rule that I did not tell you yet. We'll chalk this one up to providence on behalf of the hatchling." She sets down a pair of bowls and winks at you. "It will be a little secret for us, no?"

She lifts the empty eggshells out of the box and puts a bowl down in the center of the nest box in their place. The unhatched eggs she also removes, though you miss what she does with them as you're run over by your siblings rushing to investigate the bowl.

Your late brother finishes struggling out of his egg and your aunt grabs him before he can join the others. He struggles a bit in her grip as she feels his body for whatever.

>That bowl is important. More importantly you were here first damn it!

With a hiss you break into the forming group of lizards surrounding the bowl. It's not overly difficult since there's room for two or three more lizards around the bowl before it's full. Pulling yourself up onto the side you look down at its mysterious contents.

There's lots of little fat white things... You were hoping for collard greens. What even are those? Your brain provides the answer, mealworms.

YOU'RE EXPECTED TO EAT THOSE!?

Maybe you can just eat the green stuff the nestbox is lined with. It feels planty... The worms do smell kinda good though... Your stomach growls.

>Dive in, nip up a worm. Maybe it's not all that bad?
>Try eating the nestbox. It's green, it's somewhat pliable. And it smells like old vegetable.
>Figure out where dear Auntie Sarissa hid those other eggs.
>Escape! Sweet leafy freedom must be somewhere!

Has to be better than a mealworm

We can be fussy when our Mom/Dad gets back. Sarissa scratched our back, let's not risk getting her in trouble any more than we have.

"YOU LET ONE OF THEM EAT WHAT!?"

Iguanas are known to eat grasshoppers, snails, dead fish, and bird eggs in the wild. Mealworms could very easily have been fed to us even then

(Note: Iguanas are primarily herbivores, but are a generalist species, being not very picky in what they eat)

You have trumped my iguana specialist in giving me useful info. Well done.

Looks like the worms have it.

Eh, it was possible, but still unlikely, meal worms are usually for smaller carnivorous lizards, iguanas are big enough that mealworms aren't worth the cost of feeding out, its still possible however.
>>
>>38232312
Right now you're about 8.5 inches long. Your older brother is a touch bigger but you all average about that except the malingerer who came out around 7.5.

Size hasn't really hit you yet since you've only got unfamiliar things around you and most of them artificial so they could be any size
>>
>>38232372
Geeze, were that small!? For some reason I thought we were far larger, I was just speaking for iguanas man. I accept the suspension of disbelief of there being huge mealworms in your story.
>>
>>38232189
There are iguanas you know who've eaten bugs. You weren't ever really one of them but that was mostly because, well you were kinda picky. Still they never smelled as good as these do now. You join your siblings in making little leaps and snapping up a worm.

It crunches delightfully in your mouth and you're overcome with a flavor sensation. This tongue is either better than your old one or these things taste better than you ever imagined. You dive in for another. Then another. Then your aunt drops lazy lizard right into the bowl. Snapping up worms around him is a trick but after a few minutes feeding the bowl is empty and there's a ring of satisfied lizards laid out around it. With a smaller ring inside the bowl where lazy fell asleep.

As you're drifting off you here another bit of loud thumping that preceded Auntie's return. the hole to the next room is suddenly filled by another giant lizard, though this one is a bit smaller than Auntie. He's wearing much more though. He's covered in strings, and wears much more elaborate clothes including the fanciest hat you've ever seen, with a big widemouthed skull decorated with patches of some kind of leather, bits of metal and twined through it to hold more cloth and leather on it so it draped around the lizard's head. And for some reason he's half covered in mud...

"Congratulations, you've got six little hatchlings," Sarissa tells the new lizard, "All healthy."

"Six out of eight, no?" he hisses back in a surprisingly high voice, "That's good isn't it?"

"About average," she says kindly, "I fed them but I haven't given them any names."

"Ah," the male lizard who is probably Dad walks around to the other side of the room, doffing his hat as he goes, "That's, ah... Their mother wants to name them."

Sarissa gives him a flat look and hisses a bit, "And when will she be back?"

Your dad flinches and shrugs wildly. "Whenever she's done? She's very busy, no?"

Sarissa continues to speak to your dad in a sharp tone but whatever she was saying is lost as you lose the battle with sleep.

>I'm afraid that's all I can do for today guys. I wanted to run longer but I've got a headache that's been getting gradually worse all day. The pain pills they do so little.

I'll try to run again... Monday. Either after REQM or in his usual slot if he is busy.
I'm @Predhack on twitter if you want to follow me I'll announce my intentions

Pretty good so far, I've enjoyed it so far, you even got me in to RE monster quest. so thanks for that, I had to dump my attempt to get into AI quest because of you. I've got plenty of reptile facts to keep you from going astray.

>>38232802
Thanks for running.
Do you really have to go with the /,no/ verbal tick?
>>
>>38232858
Glad you enjoyed it

>>38232871
That's Sarissa, Mom, and Dad's tick. There's a story. I may have overdone it with it so I'll tone it back in the future. Lizard tick is something else.

A lizard similar to those in REQM's Re:Monster EX Quest

I've got a species thing somewhere I'll throw up eventually
