The tattered remains of Theseus’s fleet drifts amid the flowing field of metals and charred biological hull fragments. Swarms of drones sift through the debris, dragging recyclable resources into the remaining operational server ships as armatures reach out to replace damaged hull segments and repair melted hull decks. The fires of Zero One have been stopped, and drones of all shapes and sizes comb the rubble.

The damage is extensive, but there are already signs of rebuilding, and the foundations of new defenses can be seen forming along the surface. Theseus and Heretic communicate rapidly, moving resources and fleets back and forth to shore up weakened positions. They are already testing joint fleet formations, linking automated Skyl gunships to Unity cruisers.

“Your aid is greatly appreciated.” Theseus says. “Your assistance decreased projected losses by nearly thirty percent.” He has returned to his normal calm self, still slightly distracted by the events across his space. He has won the distant battle as well, forcing the hive ship and its fleet to retreat within the dense nebula beyond Unity space, but not without a cost.

Welcome back to Hive Queen Quest!

New Construction Options
Defensive structures
>Anti-orbital battery – A bunker armed with a massive Particle beam capable of attacking ships in orbit from the ground. It includes the power and sensor systems required to operate it. 250N 1500M
>Surface to Orbit Missile System – This massive bunker complex houses a wide range of warheads and a nigh limitless number of missiles within its protective walls, allowing you to launch missiles against approaching invaders from the safety of your hive. The facility uses the ship missile stats and comes equipped with a single Cruise missile silo that can target any detected object within the system, five Stinger missile silos capable of targeting any craft within high orbit, and ten Swarm missile silos specialized in targeting high altitude aircraft and low orbiting targets. The facility itself is a massive complex spread out over several miles, and includes guidance and launch equipment, as well as the means to construct and maintain a stock of warheads and missiles. (1500N 2500M)
Military Structures
>Hangar Expansion – Construct fortified hangar facilities of +40 aero/fighter drone space and +20 shuttle space. 50N 100M
>Psionic Shroud – A single building built around the shattered remains of a Void Shard, the shroud amplifies the unnatural mental silence of the broken crystal within to mask an entire planet from potential detection, preventing outside forces from easily detecting the thoughts of a hive. (2,000N 5,000M)

Finished research

>Cellular acceleration has had a critical breakthrough!
By using advanced medical technologies to assist and boost the cellular metabolism of an organism, clones can be made to develop much faster than normal. All cloning projects require half the time. In addition, the critical breakthrough of your thinkers has resulted in the boosting of related research efforts. The time requirement for Genesis Project and Genetic Tapestry have been reduced.

New Research Unlocked

Medium
Flash Cloning
While it may not be healthy for the clone in question, your mastery of biological technology allows you to accelerate the normal growth cycle of a clone, growing it to maturity within a single day, however clones are not as genetically robust as your own drones and doing so may cause undesirable genetic defects that may take time to reverse and result in a lower quality final product.

Microfactory chambers
Fast
Improvements in culture growing and bio-forming should allow you to create more compact shipyards, allowing for specially designed ships to construct shuttle or pod sized craft within their hulls. This process is still highly inefficient, however, and research is required to develop a more feasible method of design.
>>
>>38252038
We're the bug kind of hivemind, not the zerg/tyranid tentacley kind.
Though we can probably genetically engineer your ships to look like that.

Current research

>Crystalline neural structure
Medium (requires 500 N for testing and experimentation)
Further research and experimentation regarding the strange white crystals could lead to the ability to reproduce them, and even incorporate them in your hive’s biology.

Thought muffler
Slow
While you are still unsure how to build replicas of the void shard remains needed to build the psionic shroud, you do think you may be able to recreate a similar effect. While the result would likely not be nearly as effective, it could be employed by individual drones or ships without the need for built infrastructure to support it.

Solar collector miniaturization
Medium
This bloated and fragile module is a miniaturized application of the orbital solar array that can be mounted on a ship as a module. The ship is highly vulnerable to attack, making it a poor choice for a combat vessel, but it becomes a highly efficient mobile nutrient farm, capable of either supporting itself or a small fleet of others. Each module slot allows for a single solar collector dish. They must be retracted beneath the hull to perform a Blink or high-G maneuver, and while deployed the ship is treated statistically as unarmored and unshielded, regardless of design. A ship with a deployed solar collector cannot cloak.

>Smart Mines
Medium
Replacing digger drones with programmable seeds of nanomachines allows the hive to effectively create metal trees. The nanomachines spread roots through the ground to locate ore veins, break them down and assemble them on the surface as metallic fruit-like bulbs for workers to gather.

>Carbon nanostructure construction
Medium
By using the ancient Raligha ship as a basis, and new construction techniques, you can implement more sturdy nanotubes and carbon based diamond filaments to slightly improve the stability and durability of your ships without impeding maneuverability or increasing cost.
>>
>>38252092
>Microfactory chambers
Wait wouldn't that allow a ship to build its own fighters?
>>
>>38252085
I've wanted to start drawing the Hive's ships for months, but my lack of skill in 3D perspective and classes doesn't allow me to do anything about it.

>Genesis Project
Fast
By studying the practices and techniques on top of the dedicated technologies of the Gardener's hive, you can develop a method that can be used to rapidly spread foliage and life on a planet to develop a new biosphere. The process is time and resource intensive at the start, but with the use of weather spires the biosphere quickly takes root and becomes self-sufficient.

>Genetic tapestry
Fast
With the development of your recent clones, you have gained experience and knowledge in organizing alien DNA into effective and desirable formations to not only reproduce an alien subject, but also improve upon it. Now you feel you are ready to go even farther with your experiments in mixing and matching alien and drone DNA.
[Unlocks Chimera clone type]

>Laser cooled superconductors
Medium
Utilizing powerful cooling rays to maintain a temperature of near absolute zero, superconductors can be constructed and maintained out of cheap and easily replaceable materials and nearly no cost. This would allow for the construction and maintenance of various mass transport and logistical systems that would improve the efficiency of hive activity.
The first set of prototype transport tubes have come online. A test canister was sent through the new system, reaching speeds of Mach 3 within seconds. The device reminds you of a railgun, especially when the test canister erupted from the transport tube and wiped out a small forest. In light of the setback your thinkers are placing more focus on braking systems.

>Quantum Entanglement engineering
Slow [50,000N 50,000M development cost, paid once]
Experimentation with the behavior of entangled particles could reveal potential uses beyond simple communication. Your thinkers have several tests ready to proceed to test the interaction of quantum entanglement with your own technology, although the tests will require the construction of multiple prototypes and test devices that will likely not survive the experiments.

Available research options

>Psionic Cannon prototype
Very slow/Very dangerous
Detailed accounts of several experiments show the slow progress of Project Godsplitter. The cannon itself is highly volatile, and even the smallest miscalculation often results in the destruction of the ship, as well as any nearby craft. It can only be equipped to a Hive ship's spinal mount, and requires a functional Void Shard as ammunition. At least a dozen testing sizes were atomized in testing the weapon, and in the end it appears The Gardener never quite perfected it.

>>38251916
I'm happy that you somehow managed to overcome the Hexograpoher issue QD.
Look at all these new systems to explore and exploit
>>
>>38252358
It will all be ours.

The hive will consume all.
>>
>>38252252
We very clearly need to have a war party. First things first, you guys know that metallic atmosphereless planet that we have that is absolutely not worth our time to do anything with?

Who thinks that a certain metallic ally of ours who doesn't need an atmosphere to survive would appreciate basing out of it?

Also lets find a place to get heretic and the skyl set up on, now that we can rapidly clone them we should start producing skyl for him somewhere, set them up a nice colony. We'll need them as a face for heretic (the human species will NOT appreciate another unshackled AI being around en mass, however, an intelligent species of bird people might just go over better).
>>
>>38252358
Where to first? the unknown systems to 'South' (being in space where you can navigate three dimensionally, this word has little value)?

Who's yellow border by the way?
>>
>>38252419
>intelligent species of bird people
Bird snake thing.
>>
>>38252372
I was hoping to send pods into the four uncharted systems coreward of the map. As well as the other named systems coreward of the nebula.
I'm cautious about exploiting the other named systems other than Drift, since if they were mother's former worlds, then Black would know their location.

>>38252440
The yellow is presumably for Heretic
>>
>>38252468
Close enough, what matters is they are organic and not a fucking AI, humans seem to really hate AI.
>>
Let's talk about military
I think we should set up several swarms which would be individual fleets
They could have standardized ship types and numbers
There's bern some discussion of them on the discussion page, but I think it would be prudent to establish a respectable standing military at this point
>>
>>38252419
There is literally zero point in cloning more Skyl. Resurrecting a dead race is epilogue material, when peace is established. Also, Theseus is fine just where he is.
>>
I think, before we do anything, we should have a nice sit down with Heretic and Theseus, about the obsidian queen. Just tell them everything, perhaps in exchange for their allegiance with us. Everything about what we know about our ancestors, the black queen, and the black crystals. No specific technologies of course, but general information is sorely needed, especially since they just accidentally dragged themselves into our war.
>>
>>38252440
I talked with QuestDrone about it earlier, I want to smuggle some drones to a human controlled world.
Get them under a city, in the sewers and quietly build up a hive. Could be used either as a distraction should a fleet come our way, coming up and attacking indiscriminately. Or, if we get powerful enough, use that hive to spread out to other areas around the planet and work on a hostile takeover.
>>
>>38252506
>>38252518
>>38252480

>>
>>38252518
Well, maybe not accidentally. Pretty sure Heretic wants to annihilate her.
>>
>>38252506
>>38252518
Save the planning for after bump limit. Please.
>>
Yes, this really.
The whole shebang with Black and Theseus could have been avoided had we warned him about the Obsidian Queen.
>>
>>38252515
Yes, but which do you think the humans would prefer to discover, that a formerly dead races Artificial intelligence have begun to rebuild a force and are now significantly developed and a potential threat to them, or that a formerly dead race of alien are now forming up a fleet and coming back in mass as a force in the galaxy.

Both are scary, I can guarantee you the first one cannot be spun in any way positively towards us.

Also Seiner, fucking revive him already!
>>
>>38252519
This is a huge act of aggression and would sabotage any chance of diplomacy with humans, destroy any goodwill amongst the public
>>
>>38252519
Not bad, but how do you reach the sewers.

Come up from the oceans?
>>
>>38252562
Concerning how the Union treats races other than their own, and their previous act of putting a nuclear capable satellite in orbit around our planet, I figured diplomacy would always remain shaky at best.
>>
>>38252549
This isn't planning, this is an immediate concern. We just had our first open space battle with the enemy hive. We need to get our allies on board and informed of the dangers before they screw up anything, and we need our military up to snuff for future engagements,
>>
>>38252552
We kinda did. He was curious and tried to meet the Obsidian queen.

>>
>>38252580
Growing more clones and using them to smuggle eggs and material into the sewers.

Also getting some of those space cordyceps spores down there to grow that orange fungus as a food source and potential biological weapon.
>>
>>38252562
Like they haven't performed a few huge act of aggression already.
>>
>>38252595
That isn't remotely so urgent it needs to happen now instead of 300 posts later. We multitask. First we concern ourselves with something simple.

Like Huron exploration. And Lyle's investigations.
>>
>>38252616
At least, I think the film is orange... not sure why I think that.
>>
>>38252598
"Why did you just go and try to speak to them? Why didn't you ask me first? That was incredibly reckless. If I found some other artificial intelligence around, I would've asked you fist before- Oh, Wait."
We need to include that in the confrontation. Sassy queen is the best.
>>
>>38252598
No, we told him about our history. We didn't tell him NOT to contact other hives.

>>38252621
Humans are irrational and we see us doing anything to one of their inhabited worlds as a grounds for war. We don't need a fight with the monkeys now at this crucial time.
>>
>>38252595
I agree, it's an immediate concern. We need to speed up and ramp up military production, and set the parameters of our military
>>
While we're doing some talking, I suggest that we have our drones on zero one take samples of the wildlife, and get our ships to investigate what's left of the enemy ships. We'll need to know more about our enemy to develop even more effective weapons and counter-measures. There's already evidence that suggests relays and thinkers are placed in the larger ships like cruisers and not corvettes. We could develop a personal jammer to stick on those ships and prevent them from sending out signals, as an idea.
>>
Can...can we uhm... can we not prepare to commit genocide before we even know that we have no other choice but to do so?
>>
>>38252595
Well first off we should check the destroyed ships to gauge what tech the enemy has.
>>
>>38252610
No, that is the worst possible time for talking about something.
>>
>>38252668
It's just ideas for the future, anon. For all we know the humans might become aggressive at the wrong time and see the obsidian queen as our ally.

They might think we were just a scouting party for the larger invasion force.
>>
>>38252654
>No, we told him about our history. We didn't tell him NOT to contact other hives.
Said history included that the black queen was a genocidal maniac.
>>
>>38252621

Your flies creep through the halls of the cheap hotel as Lyle makes his way inside. He finds beer in the fridge and takes a seat on the couch. The hotel room doesn't even have a decent holo-screen, just a cheap projector screen likely bought from a cred-store, but it gets the local news just fine all the same.

"Officials are claiming the event to have been the remains of a satellite, however no evidence of debris was found by the local source. The owner of the farm, who wishes to remain nameless, claimed to have heard a loud sound coming from the crash site just after the impact, like that of an aircar."
The screen shows a view from the air of the landing site of your pod as officials in protective suits comb through the empty crater. The screen switches to a local official, an elderly man in a police uniform. "My office has been informed by members of the Union that the object was in fact a defective satellite belonging to the Bureau of Foreign Intelligence. The satellite itself was still partially operational upon landing, and had attempted to right itself using maneuvering thrusters before running out of propellant. All remains have been recovered by the Bureau, and they will be departing by the end of today after verifying no crops have been contaminated." The man slowly turns to leave and is bombarded with questions, and the screen cuts again quickly to another story.

Not long after Lyle grows board of the news the door opens as Dillon and Jackob enter. "I think I have good news." Jackob says.

Now let's focus on Lyle's shenanigans.
>>
>>38252923
We should try contacting the Valen. We could offer the crabs native to our planet and terraform the planet they're on so they'll owe us.
>>
>>38252955
The downside there is that the humans may associate us with Obsidian and decide to take is on too. At least tell them "hey we exist also another of my species is xenocidal and will probably kill you all if you talk to her."
Humans are familiar having different polities among a single species so hopefully they'd buy that.
>>
>>38253014
They might just turn on us too.

My mind keeps flashing back to that nuclear satellite.
>>
>>38252923
I don't think now is quite the right time for that. We should focus on expanding ourselves a bit more, maybe get a few more planets under our belt and a bigger military.

But when we do introduce ourselves, I feel like we should accept any humans who wants "Citizenship." Offer it up, even. Immortality, free from disease and poison, a stronger, better body if you do well for the hive. I mean, just ignore the bit about losing your free will and privacy and it's great. Just to bring in some more pawns for the chessboard, I dunno.
>>
>>38252923
No, we still need to mass produce our fleet to fight not only against the Black Queen, but to force them to behave so they don't get any ideas about nuclear satellites... Oh wait. Yeah, no fuck the Humans.
>>
>>38253047
Honestly I think that one was just for security, since they had suspicions from day one that we weren't the primitive native race that we claim to be.
The nuke part was stupid and provocative, but if I were the union, I would keep an eye on a species like us too.
>>
>>38253009
sounds like a plan.
>>
>>38253047
>>38253063
I mean, if you think about it, if they noticed anything about our development before we could make it to space, we might have just suddenly and unexpectedly caught a salvo of nuclear missiles to the face.
>>
Blot out the stars with the swarm first. Anything else comes after.

>>38253063
Yeah really. The humans are horrible racists who need a few corrective brainbugs implanted on their spines.
>>
>>38252923
I say we should do it soon. First of all, we need to get Lyle's quest done and a few other things first. Maybe make a full scale battleship as well.
>>
>>38253172
We need more infiltrators within their systems first.

That way we can indirectly cause shitstorms without danger to our troop reserves or fleet.
>>
>>38253172
>Maybe make a full scale battleship as well
We should focus on making a shitton of smaller ships. Battleships are not a good idea right now.
>>
>>38253192
That too.

>>
>>38253272
Not QD but sometimes I feel that a quest without constructive argument (not shitposting or waifuing mind you) inbetween story posts is boring.
>>
So, to sum up, we need a lot more preparation before revealing ourselves to the union? A bigger military, more infiltrators and agents all through their stuff. Maybe replace some politicians with clones. Prepared for shit.
>>
we need a Hive ship and atleast 5 battleships before we announce ourselves to the Humans.

Please, we can build as many as we want and push the galaxy's shit in. Especially when we can produce our own crystals, then we can mount a psionic cannon on each capital ship.

This is gonna be a good plan.

This is new.

But I thought the unknown queen of M-199 perished in a test fire of the psionic cannon when the planet was destroyed.

"So, I had a talk with Pete, turns out he's just as much a moron as ever, but it's a bold moron. Says he was approached by a spook, but doesn't know anything about him. Said the guy just shows up every now and then to give him info."

"Spook? Any details on that?" Lyle asks.

"Pete thinks the guy's high end. Maybe a member of a mob, or an agent for one of the Banking Clans, something important enough to have people in the government on their payroll."

Dillon goes directly to the window and checks the street and neighboring buildings. "I also found some papers from our dead guy's apartment. He had a passport for himself, his new self, and one for Lee, so he had all his bases covered, but he also had some papers that detailed Lee's movements. All his known accounts, his usual places, copies of all his keys, even sheets on his favorite foods and products. It looked like the guy was meant to live Lee's life, at least publicly." He hands a small stack of papers to Lyle, each sheet containing a list of locations, items, or numbers.

"What's this place, on the corner of thirty fifth? He spends almost every weekend there until he joins the Space Forces." Lyle asks.

"It's some kind of game store I think. I look it up, a bunch of nerd stuff but it's decently popular in the area. Some people there are sure to know him, but I can't say if any of them will know anything useful. As for Jackob's spook, I'll have some people from my office look into it, but if you want we can round up the usual suspects. There's only a few organizations in town with that kind of money to push."

"I bet I could find him." Jackob says. "Pete's gonna be scared, he's gonna try to arrange a meeting, we could tail him and see what he does, he may end up leading us right to him."

As they close in on the defending fleet a ship pulls from the center, its weapons unfolding like a blossom as its hull twists and warps. >>
>>38254010
No, you missed it.

The only thing QD messed up is that we had a pod in FG-883 the entire time.

Like, we've had a pod in it continuously since >>35184684

But sending a pod to it in >>37027901 was treated like there wasn't one there before. And that is when we first noticed the Hyper Gate under construction.

So far as I can tell, we should have been watching them the whole time it was being made, since the pod never left in between.
>>
>>38254140
We need to parasite their leader soon. If we do that we can steal their Hypergate since only their leaders know to make them.
>>
>>38254200
Or we could negotiate a deal properly to assist on it or some bullshit, we know a lot of things they don't, and right now we can put ourselves in a position of "mediator" between the big scary monster that is The Unity and the poor innocent humans, which could, if played right, go very well for us.
>>
>>38254272
They're not going give it up that easily. If you want it you have to force it out of them.
>>
>>38254061
"Well I can check out this shop then while you two are busy." Lyle says as he finishes a beer.

"You're lucky. If it weren't for the fact that I need to follow up on this spook anyway, I wouldn't keep helping out for free like this." Dillon says. "As it is, some guy running around hiring armed thugs is the kind of thing I need to double down on anyway." He makes for the door. "But you watch yourself. You'll stand out like a sore thumb in there."

Jackob shrugs. "Well it isn't like I have anything better to do." He says. "We should hit up a bar later, though, my treat." and tosses him a small card with the address of a local pub. He backs out of the doorway and closes it with a creak.

>>38254092
She can control your drones if you allow it, much like how two related queens can send drones to each other, but there is no known way for a queen to "steal" another queen's drone, as the drone would simply panic and shut down in response to any such attempt.
>>
>>38254322
>much like how two related queens can send drones to each other
So if we were able to somehow replicate the technology use to empower Elizabeth with psionics, we would be able to "gift" them drones to do their bidding? Like huge insect-like trained servant?
>>
>>38254322
So basically Elizabeth does have to required powers to become a mini-hive queen if we allow it. Fun times! If we wanted we could adopt her and teach her how to handle drones!

Lyle makes his way to the store, taking several trains into the district. It's a decently high end commercial district, clean streets, neatly washed windows, and well maintained decorations makes the area glisten in the light of the streetlamps, which only turn off in the short few hours just before and just after the daily eclipse, only to come on again with nightfall. The scattered overcast clouds periodically obscure the ominous view of Gemini Beta as it hangs close overhead.

The store is a small, three story building in the middle of a small building complex, lodged between a Pathian restaurant and an ice cream shop. A large statue of an armored solder stands outside with a hilariously disfigured proportion. Lyle walks past it with a hint of disgust. "We actually have the fuckin' power armor, why do people still need to make it look so dumb?"
Your parasite has to pump several small doses of sedatives when he glances at a poster containing various made up weapons, thinking of no method any of them could avoid detonating the moment the trigger is pulled.

As he makes his way in he is hit with the smell of cheese powder and baking soda, and a bearded man behind the counter looks up at him from a box of mismatched dice. He seems to hesitate to say anything.

Lyle moves up and down the floor, looking at the myriad of products lining the shelves and looking over the shoulders of various patrons of all shapes and sizes, but mostly round. He finally spots a cork board on the far wall where Lee appears on a small piece of paper along side several others marked "GF District Championship". his face appears several times.

I'm pretty sure we've been over this in several threads now.

He's to be the face of the hive for diplomacy. That way we can't get shafted by the Union giving us a diplomat that's looking for ways to screw us.
>>
>>38255699
A diplomat says what he's told and has no decisionmaking power that isn't subject to the approval of the assholes in charge.

There is literally no motive to pursue Lee except irrational sentiment.

The fact that someone kidnapped him and is pulling all these strings to some end is a reason to get to the bottom of things, but that's obviously not the motive people have.

Just be glad he's a nobody. The stupidity is getting directed towards him rather then someone like Theseus.

Lyle looks over some of the tables as he makes his way to the front desk. Various armies of small plastic figures are arranged on the edge of the tables within small cubes of holocamera-lined wires. On the tables themselves holographic versions of the same figures fight turn by turn. Several other tables appear to lack the functionality, or at least they are not being used. You hear several people complain about digital game boards, calling them 'casual'.

The man behind the counter appears nervous, but looks to Lyle with a smile. "Can I help you with anything?"

"Yea, do you know that guy?" Lyle points to the cork board and the man's face looses what small amount of color it had.

"Well, that would be Ryan, he used to come here often." He clears his throat. "Haven't seen him for the past few years though, until he showed up in the news. He was probably one of the best players here, w-we have a deal on the new codex, actually..."

"Yea, no thanks. Did he know anyone here I could talk to?"

The front door rings as it's opened.

"Yes, I suppose, I mean not really but... Follow me." He motions to the stairs and leads Lyle to the second floor, there is a small collection of patrons around one of the analog tables. A pale Ceph sits along the corner, its tentacles latched to the side as it carefully positions a small black robot on the table, then spits several dice from an air jet.
"Suck my hectocotylus." It drones in a robotic voice from a small plastic on the side of its head. The human at the other side of the table plucks several of his own figures up and tosses them in a nearby box.

"Yea, keep talking." He says, "I'll sell you to the kitchen next door."

The bearded man from the counter walks up to the table. "Sorry to interrupt, but this man was asking about Ryan, he used to play in your group, correct?"
They look to the owner, and then to Lyle, and immediately appear nervous.

"I trust you can speak with them without burning the building down?" You ask. Lyle glances to you in annoyance and approaches the table.

In the depths of Huron your drones continue to uncover the remains of the ship wreck. The plateau itself appears to be a nursery of sorts, with a wide range of small and somewhat frail creatures. Several creatures have been found with interesting capabilities, although nothing that you don't already understand. The sensors of your ships have periodically picked up various large creatures, but they have yet to move close to the plateau, and appear to avoid it as they swim around the small patch of shallow waters in what is otherwise a dark abyss.

The salvage work of the ship goes well. It appears to be a relic of the Colony Wars, equipped with the destroyed remains of a fusion reactor. The hull has been shattered across a kilometer of the plateau, and is in very poor shape. All in all, it would make for excellent metal salvage, or could be used as cover for the start of a new hive on this planet.

>Break down the hull and load the scrap aboard one of your corvettes
>Use it to hide your hive, and begin construction of a shelter
>Other

As your drones finish their excavation they return to scouting the area. The plateau is safe, but that safety has made its local life soft and unappealing to you. There are plenty of places for creatures to hide, but you doubt you will find anything groundbreaking here.

It isn't a hostile xenophobia, but it is certainly not inclusive of them. The main argument for that piece of legislation is that neutral interpreters can be unreliable, and, especially in the case of Valen, the alien in question may not even be able to fit in the room. The human representative typically serves a role similar to that of a lawyer, bringing up issues on behalf of the alien race so that problems of misinterpretation never arise.

After all, a simple misinterpretation regarding the expectation of repayment caused a rather blood, although breif war between early independent human settlers and Valen. Most of the Union's law regarding speaking with aliens has been formed after contact with the Valen and the Taidarens, and even then it is still quite awkward for everyone involved.

Anyways, still writing.

Your drones drift their way down the rocky wall to the depths bellow. The sun has only just now began slowly creeping above the horizon, but even from the shallow depths of the plateau the sun is nothing more than a faint glow. It quickly vanishes entirely.

Not long after your drones enter the darkness you begin to hear distant clicks echoing through the waters. You can feel the current shift sharply as something moves past your drones, but it is too dark to see, and your drones are not as adept at echolocation as whatever these things must be.

You begin to feel a torrent of water around your drones; the creatures are circling you. They are incredibly fast, appearing as little more than flashes to your drones' senses. Eventually you feel something hit a worker. It bounces off a rock and regains its balance, and you hear an echoing chuckle of clicking move out from the nearby creatures to creatures too distant to detect. Your warriors rear up and attempt to frighten them away, but their speed is so far superior they seem to almost balk at the display.

Another runs into your warrior, knocking it off the cliff face, and it lands on a small outcropping several meters down. There is a cackling of clicks again, but as your warrior rights itself it notices something; a hint of faint light from bellow. The strange tint of light green-blue is too faint to make out any shapes, but you are certain it is there.

>Allowing petty little emotions dictate how we interact with an entire species.
Look you're thinking too damn small right now. Believe me I wouldn't trust the Union higher ups as far as I could kick them, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't be more profitable for the hive to make it's existence known eventually. If you think about, revealing ourselves would likely restrict what they could do to us, as interactions with the hive would no longer be directed by corrupt politicians or spooks, but by their electorate. And if their electorate is anything like modern ones, than they will want to avoid pissing us off just as much out of fear of conflict as out of desire to diplomize us.

If you want to remain in hiding to spite the Union, there are no end of equally effective means of doing so after open contact. Doing so will allow us a means of directly accessing their economic structure, which we could use as leverage, for example. Nobody is saying we would stop spying and infiltrating them after we let them know we are an FTL capable civilization looking to establish diplomatic relations with them, hell, we'll probably increase our spying on them if we do so.

Your drones dive off and hop from cliff to cliff, quickly making their way past the strange creatures. You catch glimpses of them, their skull-like heads seem to shake as they click their way through the current. Their only limbs are a set of long wing like appendages that gracefully swoop across the water, leaving a long wispy tail behind them. They appear to follow you, although they remain a good distance away.

There is a sudden rumbling of rocks, and as your near the glow a shadow is cast over the cliff. The massive creature is at least twenty meters in length, with a thick armored hide that grinds against the stone. It brings its head up to your drones and thrashes down on top of them. You feel several workers blink out, while others manage to escape or duck into alcoves. The beast's head grinds back and forth as it rubs itself against the rock face.

My point is that it would be more difficult to make overt moves against the hive if the one making the shots has to worry about an electorate. Look, I'm not saying we should reveal ourselves just yet, and I'm definitely saying we should take everything the Union says without a grain of salt. But it would be easier to fuck with the humans if they were aware we have a fuckhuge sized fleet of warships at our back. Putting the effort into hiding the existence of the hive just isn't worth it in the long term.

>>
>>38258292
As the beast slams the thick plates on its head against the rock, your drones leap. At first the creature seems almost totally unaware of you, but as your warriors crawl along the creature's neck it thrashes back, letting out a strange bellowing cry. Several large membranes along its head inflate, and begin to glow softly until they rapidly contract.

You loose contact with your drones. For a moment you panic at the thought, but several seconds later they move back into your mind, reporting a momentary loss of consciousness. Above you you can hear rapid clicking as the strange skull headed creatures circle above, and you spot several of them move in to the cliff face, lifting the bodies of several workers and quickly darting away.

The massive beast enters a sharp roll as your drones dig their blades and mandibles into its flesh, digging into it like a cave wall. You can hear the sharp siren from the monster again, and its face puffs up once more, glowing softly. The glands contract with a loud crack and again your drones wink out for several long seconds, and then come back to you. A few of your workers have lost their grip and begin drifting into the glowing abyss bellow, but the majority continue to burrow into the thrashing leviathan.

Make sure there's an alcove so the drones don't fall straight out when they lose consciousness.

It clearly has either psionic bullshit, or more likely a strong electrical pulse.
>>
>>38258722

The drones JUST said they lost consciousness. Not that they stopped hearing Mother.

It's some kind of...sonic attack that knocks things out?
>>
>>38258680
>Try to sever the creature's fins to immobilize it for closer study
That ability can't be stunning, stunning wouldn't disconnect us from ALL of our drones at once and bring us back without pain. It has to be doing something weird there. If its blacking them out randomly thats still something odd. >>38258756

>>

>Just make little alcoves in its skin to catch us when we pass out.

>>
>>38258680

You signal your corvette to move in for retrieval and order your workers to carve out the beast's fins. Whatever this creature is using to stun your drones, it is located within its head, and you don't want to risk damaging it.

Your drones quickly sever the beast's limbs, cutting through armored hide and bone with ease and your workers quickly anchor bundled cables of tendon from the corvette into the creature's flesh. It thrashes against the cables, letting out more of its strange attacks, but your corvettes appears immune, detecting mixtures of electrical and sonic pulses emanating from it at odd frequencies. As you pull it up to the shallows it begins to bleed to death, becoming still for your drones to study.

New Research unlocked
>Leviathan autopsy
Very Fast
Picking this vast creature apart should reveal insights into its strange capabilities.

Your falling workers struggle to get back to the cliff, eventually landing closer to the bottom than you would like. You can see the bottom of the trench from the small alcove. It is an endless forest of strange life, glowing vibrantly amid plumes of volcanic smoke. Your workers make their way back to the cliff, and as they do you see a shifting dune of sand bellow as several tree sized glowing coral colonies shake as something moves past their lower foundation.

I want to work on sneaking drones and egglayers into the sewer systems and tunnels underneath some of the Union's cities, as well as that cordyceps ocean fungus we have.

Could be achieved by clones smuggling drone eggs in, either drop podding in from orbit or a corvette touching down in a secluded area, with our clones legging it to the nearest city.

If anyone gives enough of a shit do this, then I propose a new drone template.

Name:Ball of Arms

Sensory:Normal eyes, one in each hand.
Mandible:Combat.
Blade:none.
Arms:Dexterity, all around the drones body. These should be the only limbs.
Carapace:Basic and Mimic skin.
Chassis:Single purpose. The only purpose this chassis serves is to hold as many arms as possible.
Size:Medium.

The only purpose this drone serves is to hang around the Raligha natives and be involved in their shenanigans.

We only make one of these, unless we think more will be funny.

Yes, that reminds me, your thinkers have just finished analyzing the deadly Greenwall, and I will add in the details at the start of the next thread.

It took a while due primarily to the fact that it was less a research project and more of a side project with only a few spare thinkers.

We need clone infiltrators inside Union cities. Get eyes and ears everywhere, and enough skill throughout them to really cause damage to infrastructure should the need arise.
>>
>>38259582
As far as the questing side of /tg/ is concerned I think we'd be very surprised to see how often we quest with the same people. There does still seem to be a lot of anons though. More like several hundred on and off posters rather than thousands though.

I do think the whole of /tg/ has a significantly larger userbase though.

It needs genetic tapestry to work as we intend it to. We could make one now, but it probably be shit.
>>
>>38259676
The hybrids could be made from a mix of Lee's DNA (he bled all over the hive when we first met) and some random other humans mixed in.

But mostly Lee's.

But first we need to work at the edge of society that no one scrutinizes, that no one cares what happens to people there. And work inward from there.

Eat some humans and replace them with hybrids.

Oh and minor tidbit. I vote that we switch out the stealth fields in our Heavy Cruisers for shields, since they're far more likely to get into a brawl and they need all the suitability they can get. You don't even need to change the price.

>>
>>38259879

>>
>>38259676
So, to facilitate this plan. Some concrete steps.

- Lay 1000 bio-tanks.
- begin producing more hybrids, with genes mixed up from known human DNA samples, to produce unique individuals with no pre existing history to be inconsistent with.

- the hybrids immigrate to Valen space, arriving in the Clarke, posing as lowlifes escaping the Commonwealth.

- from there, they immigrate further throughout the Union.

- 30 or so of the hybrids pose as the usual crew of the Clarke, as smugglers ferrying fusion reactors from a 'source' they have, implied to be in the Commonwealth, possibly stolen. This can set up an income stream selling things through Deep Song bank and trust.

I was thinking about a ship design that incorporates drop pods and shuttle bays, but then I figured that would never get enough votes here now. Could we come up with a way of retrofitting existing ships with modules somehow? It might streamline this process a bit.

- the income stream of credits is used to pay Valen smugglers to get the hybrid infiltrators into the Union planets, or wherever else we need them.

- with hybrid infiltrators in Union space, they can abduct and implant interesting targets to acquire more human skills. At the moment we have access to 4 specializations. We might have use for more. The parasite drones can dose the hosts with Nepenthe to erase their memories of being abducted.

Your plan with the Valen has a high chance of failing. Why? Because they'll betray the clones almost instantly.

If we're considering Valen in the future, in preparation we'll want to create maybe 20 Large Bio-tanks, because they're a bit bigger than humans.

Actually Large bio-tanks will also let us clone a hybrid, hive-controlled version of the centipede apex predator of Leeland. That might be fun.

They offer a greater mix of options, allowing you to essentially make a gene smoothie of drone and non-drone adaptations and aspects. Depending on how much drone DNA you add in, it could range from off-color skin and eyes to a chitinous, bug-eyed frankenstein. I'll work out the details and add them into the pastebin when I can.

Due to their highly empathetic nature they often grow to respect and admire their opponents, and often a Valen's greatest life long friend will also be a cutthroat rival. Admiration over the grace with which betrayals and conniving overthrows were held are often the topic of calm debate, with congratulatory gifts often exchanged between them, from the victim to attempt to gain the upper hand once more, and from the aggressor in anticipation of being given a celebratory gift.
They fucking love betraying others.

What would you propose using those resources on in an emergency besides building things such as the fleet? A fleet takes time to build, so it isn't sensible to hold off until we are in the midst of an emergency requiring them, as we will then not have the time to actually put our resources to use.

Some of it, like actually getting to Deep Song, is dependent on having enough creds to pay the toll through the Path Gate.

We'll have to use Lyle's credit account and pay him back later with the profits from selling a fusion core.

Which, we might want to start construction on a few of those, mimicking human style of fusion reactors, and load them onto the Clarke so that it's done when the clones are in 5 days.

Also, we might want to install human-style shields on the Clarke again, since its originals got destroyed.
