Is this what freeform forum RP is normally like?

www.rpnation.com/threads/academy-de-feast-reboot.93892/page-30#post-2671931

>' FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT!!!! LET IT ALL OUT LET YOUR RAGE THE SADNESS THE DARKNESS LET IT ALL OUT LET HIM SEE WHO YOU TRULY ARE LET THEM ALL SEE YOUR POWER!!! YOU HAVE POWER THEN PROBABLY ANYONE HERE SHOW THEM WHAT YOU GOT!!! AND I WILL BE HERE THE FULL WAY. Remember when your parents died, remember seeing your brother's plane on the news go missing, remember when Toru died!!!!!!! REMEMBER YOU ARE KAI HATRED FULLBRING!!!!' Iak tells Kai all these things making Kai want to let it all out as his chest begins to fade slowly a circle appeared on his chest. Kai held his head in pain as he screams, in pain as a green sphere filled with aura surrounds Kai. His screams can't be heard in such a sphere as he is trapped there, with no way out or in. ' I do want to protect my friends and if the only way I can do it is by joining you then I will!' Kai says talking to Iak. ' Let it FREEEEEEEEEEE HAHAHAHA I will guide you threw this!!!!' Iak says with a smirk on his face. The sphere burst as magic spills out and something stands in place of Kai. Wind blows roughly as the sphere broke and the being standing in Kai's place has an emotionless facial expression as it stands there it's tail slams on the ground.

The character's name is actually "Kai Hatred Fullbring."

Freeform does trend to that. It has its reputation for a reason.

If one doesn't carefully vet the community, this is the tripe that can be expected to result. All the blithe baselessness of children playing on the playground, with the pretension and awkward form of an "emotional" teenager.
>>
im so glad the freeform I go to is ball-bustingly confusing now.

Untempered, shoddily-handled freeform does descend into playground arguments and poorly-written tripe like this. But there IS good freeform out there. It's just really hard to find.
>>
>>38261653
It ultimately comes down to finding those precious few people who value the story being made over their own character.
Though, simply being able to separate one's own ego from the characters is often sufficient.

Tolkien aside, the idea of wizards as being an inherently magical race is nothing new - hell, it might actually be more common than the book-learnin' type wizards. But they're very rarely treated as an outright separate species to humans; a wizard is just a human with magic.

Like, in D&D, you don't call the child of a regular person and a sorcerer a "half-sorcerer." They're a sorcerer if they start shooting fire out of their hands and they're not if they're don't.

It's actually the default for most mythology.

Wizards are almost never fully human. The idea of over, pyrotechnic magic being something anyone can learn is a relatively new thing, and it's really more a result of D&D and pulp fantasy than anything else. Even today, most media that isn't written by obviously D&D-influenced fantasy authors presents magic as something intrinsic and fundamental to the person casting, rather than something you pick up.

Harry Potter, Charmed, Nasuverse shit, fucking Eragon, WoD, 99% of 'modern fantasy' novels and TV, Marvel Comics (DC does this as well, but the Vertigo imprint breaks the rules occasionally), etc etc etc. Most of popular culture presents magic as something you either have an intrinsic aptitude for, or you don't. Things like HP and Nasu even have their wizards different from humans on a genetic level - magical 'genetics' making them somehow more than human.
>>
>>38259793
If the forums are not moderated well enough or have open doors then it will only end in chaos. I'm happy with my current 3-year old forum game but I won't share it with you for multiple reasons. However, if you ever find a good forum to have freeforms or are invited to one (invite-only policy is the best policy so somebody is always responsible for other player's actions) then you would be wise no never ever publicly name the forum unless you want to have it reduced to a pile of shit.

>Age: He isn't quite sure, probably around 67.
Type of Creature: Mostly human, probably.

>Appearance: a cross of old Hawaiian fashion, and really whatever he finds in his closet.

>Personality: Due to a combination of Schizophrenia, Bipolar disorder, dementia, drug abuse, and several other factors. Hendersons personality tends to zig and zag around the borders of sane, but always in the realm of fun.

>Bio: After lying about his age to be drafted into the Vietnam war at 12, Henderson has found himself in a variety of strange situations, mostly brought about by his tendency to keep escalating any situation he is put in.

>Powers: Fairly Skilled with firearms, and one hell of a fighter in CQC. More strange and random knowledge than you could find in an entire encyclopedia. Practically immune to any drugs and toxins. Strange, almost supernatural luck.

Am i the only one who thinks that this would make a really great base for character development?
You know, someone starting out as a collection of assorted edges, and slowly, during the story having all the edges dulled, and realizing that being an A-bomb of rage is actually rather a curse than a power. And later finding out that it *actually* is a curse and subsequently going on an epic quest to lose the edginess curse.
>>
>>38269455
The edges have to start from somewhere, though, before you can have the "edges losing their edge" arc.

The angry, bitter young delinquent sitting in a jailcell has to start bitter and angry before he goes on an adventure and become a champion of humanity and savior of his bloodline.
>>
>>38269551
Well the character described there was basically all edge.
Come on his name is "Kai Hatred Fullbring".

The thing with his parents dying would actually work too.
The demons that killed them were the source for the edge/rage curse, but kai wouldn't know that.
And he should only be able to fulfill his quest for curse removal, if he is able to not murder the fuck out of the villain who did it. So in order to remove the curse of insatiable range he would have to overcome himself.

Basically like hulk.

>>
>>38260137
I think one of the biggest sins committed here is that the "muh revengence" and "muh dead parents" were so horribly shoehorned in
It doesn't add anything to the character aside from giving them an excuse to be a brooding, edgy faggot
>>
>>38269657
Remember, though: according to his profile, his friends are his life, and he would do absolutely anything - even fall to darkness and become das uber edgelord - if it were done in the name of his friends.

How the fuck does he have friends, anyway, and why would he value them so highly?
>>
>>38269455

It can absolutely be a good concept when looked at from that angle.

The problem is that >>38260137 Clearly isn't going for that, instead his edginess is just an excuse for him to have bullshit power beyond already being a half-angel/half-wizard. His anger will never be addressed as a curse because the writer doesn't believe it is, to them It's just "hey look guys, my character is super angry all the time, isn't that cool?"

And, hell, even that would be fine if he just went full Angron and was just a berserker with no really feelings for others. But instead he's just a generic anime hero guy who can go super sayien because "He's angry".
>>
>>38269765
The edge gives him an out to alwaways fall to darkness and become even more powerful. If he were on the straight and narrow, he wouldn't see the opportunities to become stronger, not without a minimum of effort. The "fall to the dark side" is the easiest route to a power spike, and it's never written as a bad thing by shitty RPers.
>>
>>38269697

Are you me anon?

This is exactly what made me stop Forum RPing.
>>
>>38269741
This is the point! He has friends because he wasn't always Sir Edgegar McEdgypants. He got cursed by the same demons that killed his parents and he never realized it because he thought what he felt was the righteous anger over the death of his parents.

I'm a victim of the latter more often than I'd like.
>>
>>38269876

>Soooo basically like the Hulk?

Yeah, but the hulk's power isn't (supposed) to be a good thing. It's something Banner either learns to control or break away completely from. Pretty much anytime the Hulk comes out in his own comics it ends up being a bad thing for everyone enemy or otherwise, and it certainly hasn't made Banner's life easier.

This is just using "angry mode" as a crutch.

It's worse when the latter kind of thread constantly gets delayed by players who won't post because 'not in the mood', because 'irl issues', because 'my cat is on fire', etc. etc., and it drags on for months.

And the guy in charge of the thread just caters to those players and lets them get away with it instead of making strict posting deadlines because muh friendships.
>>
>>38269741

Or worse, when the Moderator themselves just fucking disappear off the face of the planet and leave the entire thing unable to move.

Jotaro never lost his edginess though. Nor did his edges really have a beginning.
>>
I did freeform RPG when I was young, and was one of the few who actually took things seriously. I managed, through savvy and tactics, to avoid the sues at all costs. For a time.

The moment that caused me to quit was when I was in a one on one fight with the enemy leader(the greatest of sues). I shot him with a rocket launcher, at a range where even if he dodged he'd still get hit, and what was his response?

Lolno, I just walk it off and pin you to the ground.

So I kicked him in the nuts. (He was very clear about his character being male.)

My nuts are made of steel, seriously, stop cheating, your character isn't this powerful, do this again and I'm gonna report you to the mods.

At this point left, but not before (via private messaging) getting his account suspended.

>>38272018
He's like Cyclops from X-Men. He needs goggles to contain the sheer awesomeness because whenever he walks the street without them, he has several dozen women spontaneously latch onto him. There is a 30% chance each of them becomes impregnated by doing so.

Alright, so, I got recommended to this server by a friend over Skype, since he knew that I roleplayed, but wasn't quite into it himself. All that I knew going in was that there were a few main mods, all focused around magic, which I've describe here for the benefit of those that don't play modded Minecraft. Please note that these are the big mods, but there were plenty of smaller ones in there too.

Botania is all about plant based magic, and making or using the power of the Earth and plants in some way to achieve your goals. Ars Magica is the conventional write spell, make spell, cast spell affair, and although the spell customization is nice it makes a primordial sin by needing you to grind for levels to get more modifiers to make spells with and not have a mana bar that runs out five seconds into doing something. Blood Magic is just exactly what it sounds like, sacrificing mobs or your own health at a giant altar to create mystical objects that can be pretty neat, and finally there was Thaumcraft, a mob based around research and generally attempting to be artificer of the year. Right at the list, I saw something odd, however. There was a mentioned of a mod that adds pony models, and another that COULD let you play as an orc, elf, dwarf, etc. but it most often used for playing furries. I knew that I was in for a rough ride, but curiosity drove me forward.

So, I logged on to the server, and what do I immediately see in the chat? Someone attempting to offer the soul of another player to demons while typing in all caps, and immediately getting beaten back 'BUT NOT DEFEATED!!!' by three other people, all of which were styling themselves as powerful mages. As I learned rather fast, almost everyone went for Ars Magica and Blood Magic, since those two were the most powerful out of the gate and the easiest to learn, as you could just watch some basic Youtube tutorials and be powerful. Plus, most people wanted to be powerful wizards or edgelords, so it fit.
>>
>>38278150

I think t would start that way, but over time could end up being really cool.
>>
>>38278477
Go on.
>>
>>38278477
Botania had a niche user-base, but not one of more than two or three people due to it taking a long time, and nobody used Thaumcraft or its assorted addons due to it needing you to do some in game research minigame to unlock shit.

And so, after listening in for a bit, I trekked off into the wilderness, picking a character name and beginning the journey of Jack Fair, asshole Thaumaturge. Without talking to anybody at all for a good while, I found a place far away from spawn and locked myself down in an underground base, not talking to anyone until I had completed every bit of research, and prepared for every situation. Of course, I did a fair amount of Blood Magic and Ars Magica as well, but not nearly as much. Once I came out to socialize, oh boy did the fun ever start.

Wandering around to see if I could find something someone's base to stir some shit, I ran into some fuck who had an anthro dragon skin, complete with wings and tail. Instantly, he derided Jack for being a human, also instantly knowing his name without prior interacting with him at all. Deciding that this was a good time to assuage his ego to get what I could, Jack played beta for a while, acted all submissive and used some high honorifics, and asked if he could help. Draco, as he called himself, declared that he was on his way to the high wizard meeting, and that Jack could accompany him if he wished.

Swapping from his thaumaturge's robes to basic bitch Ars Magica robes, Jack agreed, and so the two ran to this fuck-huge tower that looked like someone had vomitted iron and gold blocks over the landscape and attempted to sculpt a usable building out of it. Walking into the chamber, I noticed something immediately: everyone that was fighting earlier when I joined the server were there. The sacrifice-ee, the sacrifice, and the people who performed the rescue all acting like friends and that nothing happened. All but Draco were pissed about me being there, though.
>>
>>38278242
You know if it was done in a way that kept the meta context, I think that shit might make a pretty baller LN.
>>
>>38278964

I just want to see the final battle between Edgardo and Xero.

>>
>>38270045
Why would you voluntarily play with anyone from /tg/?
>>
>>38278964
I think the best way to do it would be to copy the text directly, and portray it in a narrative form.

At the beginning of the book we can have the classic black page with white text and something like "This is a true story reader, all of this really happened" or something to that effect.
>>
>>38278964
I fully support this anon's opinion.
>>
>>38261801

Is it just me, or would her breasts and genitals be exposed?
>>
>>38279052
I do agree that novelization is the way to go.

But a few things like an awkwardly shaped tavern so it could have ten corners off to the side so every broody bastard could have there own corner away from others and Edgardo walks straight up to the barkeep being cheery would would be amazing to see.

Especially if it had a moment of narration were the player talks about how it must be 8th dimensional.
>>
>>38279161

I like the idea of having still images with the text to the side. Like an image of Goldnharl laughing in the face of assorted weapons and next to the image the text
>Goldnharl weathered the tide, taking kunai and fireballs and shadow spears without so much as flinching.

Next panel a close up of Goldnharl with appropriate expression
>Because fuck you

Magnify zoom.
>He's Goldnharl

So like a still image for each line of text, with the text verbatim next to the image.

So, they all seemed to hate the idea that a dirty common wizard was there, and they all proceeded to type their entire fucking life's story, including how awesome they are and how they defeated entire armies and similar, all of which obviously happened completely off screen and how any defeats they may have suffered in the server's histories were just as planned for the even bigger goal, all the standard Mary Sue wizard stuff. The hilarious thing, though? Thanks to the Minecraft message text size limit, all of them were typing at the same time, so there was around five different back stories being said piecemeal at the same time, so it gave the impression of five wizards shouting over each other about how awesome they were to the new person. Needless to say, I didn't really pay much attention, and instead took to creating a recall point here for later with Ars Magica so I could teleport back while they weren't paying attention.

Eventually, Draco told them all that I was his servant, and they all decided that it was okay that I was there, although I had to stand in the corner if I wanted to stay. I complied, and watched as they all quietly reached over and started verbally jerking off everyone else. Eventually, the meeting winded down to a close and they all said their goodbyes. All left but the one who owned the tower, and Draco insisted that I come back with him so I could live serving him like a nice little servant should. I said that I wouldn't, he threatened my life, I still said no, he threatened my life again while reminding me OOC that the server had four day long bans on death to simulate one recovering in bed after nearly dying, and I said no one last time. He then pulled out his spellbook, and launched a damage spell that would have one hit me, if not for the barrier that appeared to soak the hit when my thaumic runic shielding activated and me rapidly swapping to the end game thaumic armour, pictured, made from the void between worlds itself.

It would have been a much longer battle if he bothered to enchant his armour, but as it was it ended rather rapidly when I pulled out the same staff as is in the picture, affixed the primal focus, and shat out about fifty seeking prismatic spheres of exploding fuck you directly in his direction. In retrospect, I went a bit overboard as after he was dead after the first few, the rest went out into the focus, seeking out things that weren't me and permanently buggering up the landscape in the surrounding area with blast craters.

And so, with Draco silenced for a few merciful days, Jack Fair went back to his base to make the ultimate tool of thievery: the dislocation focus. Long story short, the server had this plots that you could get that protected people from opening chests, doors, breaking blocks, etc. in your house. The dislocation bypassed that by letting you temporarily removing the block from existence, storing it in your staff or wand, and then placing it down later. The best part? It didn't show up on blocklogging either, so it was untraceable.

The next evening, I walked up to that big tower when the shitty wizard that owned it was away, placed down a sign outside, and wrote 'Hope you like my changes -Draco' on it, dislocated it, opened up a portal through the wall, stepped inside, dislocated the sign back into existence in the storeroom, and dislocated every chest out of there. In character, this was because Jack Fair needed more resources to complete his infusion room's infrastructure so that he didn't have to cart jars of essentia around any more. Plus, he could finally afford to make the next focus that I needed for my master plan: warding, which made any block that it was used on straight up unbreakable. I promptly warded my base, and constructed special warded door so nobody could get in that way either, and finally did a layer of astral barriers from Ars Magica so nobody could even teleport in.

Then, the owner of the tower logged in.
>>

Oh boy, was he ever pissed about the entire contents of his storeroom being gone, especially considering that there were a whole bunch of named equipment in there that was supposed to be legendary. Vowing vengeance against Draco, he plotted to kill him when he next got on, and got two of the wizard group on it. Over global, I saw one of the pony players, who had been very quiet up to now, asking for help. Apparently, some of the more normal Mary Sue players that weren't part of any group that I've met at that point went to town on the ponyfags, who were apparently going for town roleplaying on local chat only rather than being powerful mages all day every day, so they couldn't quite fight back against people spamming spells that bypass regular armor entirely.

Feeling a bit bad for them, I decided to help the poor fuckers, and after getting the coordinates and getting shouted at by the people who were raiding them for helping 'such colossal shitlords,' I made it there. Three people versus one thaumaturge, and the three lost quickly. It ended rather fast since there is a focus thanks to the aforementioned primal focus, and another one that lets you summon swarms of bats that drain health to heal you with, set your opponent on fire, and explode. The pony players, both IC and OOC were grateful, and Jack Fair was kind, offering to help them remain safe. Receiving praise from some blue horse princess, he offered them a temporary home, under his shadow while he taught them the secrets of thaumaturgy to defend themselves. Accepting, they created a village above Jack's base, and I taught them the ways of Thaumaturgy and molded them into my own little warriors. Officially, they all listened to their leader. Unofficially, that leader listened to me.

They slowly armed up as they all roleplayed beating their plowshares into swords, learning thaumaturgy, and establishing a home defense force. Draco's ban then expired.

I'm not quite sure what happened in between Draco and the wizard group due to them using local chat, but apparently Draco's house got wrecked by explosions while he was there, and killed one of the wizard vengeance cabal before he had to flee. Now, it was war and the wizard group was tearing themselves apart, all the while I built up a stockpile of thaumic doom's day weapons large enough to scare the USSR.

See, there is something called Tainted Land in Thaumcraft, which is very rare, but it is essentially magical cancer as a biome that spreads over the nearby landscape, corrupts life to be hostile to all non-tainted shit, and is generally horrible. Through an endgame research, you can make bottles of it that create a patch on breaking. The second weapon was infused fire, which was added by one of the addons. Infused fire spreads rapidly over the landscape, transforming almost any blocks it comes into contact with into its related elemental flavoured equivalent. For example, Ignis Imbued Flame, yes, fire imbued flame, converts a wide variety of things into sand and sandstone, and the aqua imbued flame turns things into ice and snow. However, all of stopped by water, thankfully, and as I should have mentioned earlier, the ocean generation is amped up to actually have some moderately sized continents, so one phial being dropped wouldn't be the end of the world.

Say, remember that recall point I set earlier? Jack Fair, asshole thaumaturge, showed back up, stole everything again, and finally dropped a couple bottles of tainted land there. When the shit wizard next woke up, he saw that his house was over-run by tainted land, and after freaking out in the chat, I offered to clean it up for him, since I knew how. He accepted, but didn't appear to recognize me as the weak mage from that one meeting, so I cleaned it up with some ethereal blooms, before offering to help hunt down Draco. To that end, I got to visit the homes of many other 'allied' players.

Ahhh Free Form RP. Though it is where I started my love of roleplaying fantasy characers I can confirm it is exactly as bad as it seems.

Like for instance one of my favorite ones run by some pretty cool admins was a place that was pretty much Renaissance Era with Celtic overtones so there were fey courts and all that neat stuff and people did a pretty good job of playing characters that were a part of the world or far off travelers sitting here for a spell on their way to being lost

And then a Silver Dragon otherkin who literally wanted to fuck every single character regardless of gender, species, or marital status showed up.

Then an Undead Werewolf Antipaladin who whined 'no one ever gives him a chance to show how good he is' when he does Chaotic Evil shit all the time

And finally the person who came with their own 'homebrew' race that were pretty much Dragon Elves that had almost no more females (because evil vampires killed half the species...for some reason) so they could all Mpreg instead.

Sadly, the Admins were far too nice and one couldn't run a story to save his life so it fell apart.

Hey, at least 3.5 casters can't automate the alchemical production of potentially world-ending imbued fire that any chuckle fuck can use so easily.

>>38280910
I made a mistake in my previous post. Aer imbued fire is what turns things into desert, ignis imbued fire turns things into the nether/hell equivalent. In horse related news, I continued to influence them some, and they were all getting rather eager to expand their claim. Since blue horse princess was associated with the night, I let her in on the possibility of a blood magic ritual as well as a hidden Ars Magica spell modifier that would let one set the time to night whenever one wants, as well as how to get it. This seemed to pique her interest, and she went off to do something as the rest of them started to actually build attachments to my fortress, in which everyone started to live. It had defensive fortifications, traps, rooms for individual people, and it went full super magic fort. It was slightly unsettling seeing horses tiny babble at each other about eldritch devices, infusion crafting, alchemy, golemancy, infusion, and the like.

With the locations of many of our enemies, I prepared us for war, and planted a couple devices on each continent on a three day timer, which would set loose various imbued fires in a couple days on a few different continents. The way Draco tried to blame it all on me was hilarious, since everyone knew that I couldn't have done the stealing, since the other wizard hadn't 'trusted' me on the claim, so I couldn't have done anything on his claim. With the weapons in place, I waited. The reason for a timer was simple. I knew that the map had backups older than two days purged, to save hard drive space, so, with those embedded everywhere, even roll backing the map wouldn't fix it. The horses actually managed to impress me with their contribution to our 'fuck over the world' effort.
>>
>>38281543
Ah, I think I was actually Frank the Dustomancer if I remember right, whenever I use that name I always allude to just being a janitor and not knowing anything about magic. I'm not sure who that other one is.

>>38281613
Hence why I said so easily. I completely automated the process, including generating the materials and the alchemy itself, so we had chests upon chests worth.

>>38281586
By abusing that an autonomous activator you can create a fake player that can continually activate, say, the blood magic ritual that sets the time to midnight, for no cost. The timer got roughly synced to the world ending fire timer, and the day rolled around as everyone was still chasing Draco fruitlessly, who was trying to find where I lived to fuck me over. Then, during the night while everyone was off, the fires sparked in the chunkloaded chunks, and spread from the depths to the surface and turned everything, buildings included, into sand which then collapsed, ice and snow, dirt, nether materials, etc. Although our island was effected as well, we kept comprehensive biological samples of everything to rebuild later, and our warding made the fortress completely immune to the effects of imbued fire. Hell, even dirt and grass we could just replicate, and since we could just call meteors with ores in them down from orbit with blood magic, we didn't even need to leave for mining.

The eternal night had the leader horse grab a different skin, take a different name, and be some evil version of the original leader horse and, thanks to my corruption, the rest of the horses went along with it. She and I gloated in the global chat since we all knew that nobody could stop us at that point, we soon found a siege at our door step. A siege that couldn't get in and couldn't starve us out either thanks to our infinite food supplies and ability to create whatever we want, but a siege none the less. Sucked for them, as they started bombarding the walls with magic nukes, but the warded blocks soaked them with no issue.

Now, I never saw an admin on the server EVER, leading me to believe that it was just a part of a server network that nobody gave a shit about, but the map was rolled back the next day.

Warding is late game Thaumcraft, needing stuff like nether stars and infusion crafting, so it is rather tough to create. Plus, the research minigame, as I said, turned everyone off of Thaumcraft.

>>38282104
I picked up on a fair amount with all of them roleplaying it, but since most fatguys I wouldn't know, I decided to put it in the most basic form possible.

>>38281955
By the evening, the two sets of devices triggered again, eternal night and hellfire happened world-wide again, and the horsefags and I were still sitting and having fun in our base, roleplaying while everything was thrown at our walls and failed. Ars Magica teleportation? A bust due to our astral barrier layer. Laputa shards from Botania? Warded blocks stopped that dead. Blood magic bound tools were stopped just as well, although those did manage to knock the occasional torch around our outer walls off, so more credit to them for trying those. At least those managed to register. Hell, even when they started leveling spells that abuse glitched mechanics like forcing into the base with a nether portal, they rapidly found that we actually locked down the nether too, by completely filling an area in the nether 200x200 blocks and warding the outer layers so nothing could touch it. I'm really thankful that we had the worldshaper's looking glass and infinite netherrack from our nethermind, otherwise it would have taken forever.

They eventually went back to the few islands that survived and flourished as well as the underwater bases. Too bad for them that the world-border was there to prevent them from going further. It was probably the best the general RP ever got on that server. People being afraid of a force beyond their kin descending on them while still trying to act as they are powerful while desperately concealing their location is an interesting way to play, even if the only reason that they were still playing was because they paid to have titles on their names.

I feel like I'm the only person who didn't think Harem Knights was completely terrible. I only read the threads when it was on its last legs, but it looked like a silly RP precursor to the Weekend Smut threads with an over-arching plot. Plus, I'm a sucker for Army of Darkness-style modern humans in fantasy stories.

Granted, I didn't read much of it, so I might be wrong here, but it didn't look that awful. However bad it was, though, it didn't merit mobs of shitposters deciding that they could arbitrate what is and is not "Traditional Games". No, fuck you. You don't decide that. I probably wouldn't have even fucking CARED about the Harem Knights drama bullshit if the rampant shitposters hadn't pulled that card.
>>
>>38282297
So, we decided that it was time to go on the offensive once more, sending forth some invisible scouts with that minimap mod that records the areas you go over to systematically go over the world and locate living places. Names, places with lights, plants, etc, were the indicators. Hell, most underwater bases had a door leading out to the water that light shined through, so those were easy to spot. Those we silently breached and taint-bombed so they got to live out their choice of underwater horror movie. I don't think that most survived, although a couple definitely did. The islands all DEFINITELY perished, though, considering that their ends were far easier to confirm. Infused fire timer bombs leave a very specific scar on the map. After that, we unleashed the aqua infused fire on the nether, correcting our oversight of leaving that semi-habitable by turning everything there into ice and snow. Well, except our barricaded zone. That stood as majestic as ever.

One really memorable time from this period is when one of the ponyfags pretended to betray us to lure some out of hiding for a deal, only to later follow the victim to an undiscovered underground hold where some survivors lived to taint bomb as well.

Eventually, however, we got bored of this, now that there was really nothing left for us to do, nothing left to challenge us, we decided to do one last plot line. We located the end portal, which is immune to infused fire in the same way that bedrock is, and made up some story about us finally all being able to go to another world if we were to kill all of the Ars Magica bosses in succession around the portal created upon the dragon's defeat. This was the version of Ars Magica where the boss rituals didn't quite work so it just added spawn egg recipes, mind you. With one final fight that was easy given the amount of us there with our level of power, we roleplayed the portal changing as people yelled at us in global chat about it not working like that.
>>
>>38282711
Do you still have the IP?
>>
>>38282711
And with that, we all kind of just left the server, but not before referencing the fact that horseland was about to get fucked by a small group of near immortal thaumaturges looking for a world that they haven't trashed yet to rule, intent on keeping this one mostly intact.

I still keep in contact with a few of the players, given that they are actually pretty cool, but after that we all left the server to rot, and I think that it died soon after, with the fucked world that reverting to backups wouldn't fix issue and all.

All this does make me wish that I still had the pack for the server, though, it would be fun to run a modern version of it with good players. Maybe I should try and put it together, although I have not the hardware to host it.

>>38282805
Sorry mate, I don't. I wish it was still up to have fun on, now that it has been long enough that I'm probably forgotten. It DEFINITELY wasn't a standard IP though, it was one of the name IPs.

Hey, the mods still exist. I never realized that lategame Thaumcraft was that broken, though.

we should totally start an RP server again, then open it to pubbies and stomp them when they turn into sues
>>
>>38283044
Late game Thaumcraft is at its most broken when you grab some of the addons and think very carefully about what you want to do with it. It might not be as blatantly powerful as Ars or Blood Magic, but if you work at it just a little bit, you get into the dumb stuff.

Also, I would definitely be in for the reconstruction of the pack, although I think the thread may 404 soon.
>>
>>38283171
Make another if it does.

I'm already coming up with characters, punishments for Sues, and subtle rewards for good RP from randoms.

Mystcraft is a must, so that we can send people to the shadow realm.
>>
>>38283193
Alas, I must pass out soon, but even better is 'cubing' someone. Create a cube with a 3x3 interior, ward the entire thing up, and put a thin strip of warded glass around the middle so you can see in, and finally a layer of astral barriers to prevent teleporting out. Unless they have some way of killing themselves with self damage on them, they are trapped. Also, the easiest way to get someone with this is a Witchery summoning ritual, if the server has it. Another good way is Ars Magica, as long as you leave the astral barrier partially constructed to tele them in before sealing it up tight. A builder's wand ensures rapid sealing, by the way.
