The surface of Zero One suffers a slight hail storm as you finish the small cluster of mounds that pass for your hive outpost. At first you pass it off as a simple weather anomaly, but as your drones seek shelter you soon notice chips of bone collecting on the dirt. It is not hail, but remains. Larger pieces slowly appear in the night sky as shooting stars, and through the night you watch as the remnants of the Obsidian Queen’s assault fleet slip silently across the night sky against the drifting silhouettes of the gargantuan living kites.

Welcome back to Hive Queen Quest!

Defensive structures
>Anti-orbital battery – A bunker armed with a massive Particle beam capable of attacking ships in orbit from the ground. It includes the power and sensor systems required to operate it. 250N 1500M
>Surface to Orbit Missile System – This massive bunker complex houses a wide range of warheads and a nigh limitless number of missiles within its protective walls, allowing you to launch missiles against approaching invaders from the safety of your hive. The facility uses the ship missile stats and comes equipped with a single Cruise missile silo that can target any detected object within the system, five Stinger missile silos capable of targeting any craft within high orbit, and ten Swarm missile silos specialized in targeting high altitude aircraft and low orbiting targets. The facility itself is a massive complex spread out over several miles, and includes guidance and launch equipment, as well as the means to construct and maintain a stock of warheads and missiles. (1500N 2500M)
Military Structures
>Hangar Expansion – Construct fortified hangar facilities of +40 aero/fighter drone space and +20 shuttle space. 50N 100M
>Psionic Shroud – A single building built around the shattered remains of a Void Shard, the shroud amplifies the unnatural mental silence of the broken crystal within to mask an entire planet from potential detection, preventing outside forces from easily detecting the thoughts of a hive. (2,000N 5,000M)

Current research

>Leviathan dissection
Very fast
Picking this vast creature apart should reveal insights into its strange capabilities.

>Crystalline neural structure
Medium (requires 500 N for testing and experimentation)
Further research and experimentation regarding the strange white crystals could lead to the ability to reproduce them, and even incorporate them in your hive’s biology.

Thought muffler
Slow
While you are still unsure how to build replicas of the void shard remains needed to build the psionic shroud, you do think you may be able to recreate a similar effect. While the result would likely not be nearly as effective, it could be employed by individual drones or ships without the need for built infrastructure to support it.

Solar collector miniaturization
Medium
This bloated and fragile module is a miniaturized application of the orbital solar array that can be mounted on a ship as a module. The ship is highly vulnerable to attack, making it a poor choice for a combat vessel, but it becomes a highly efficient mobile nutrient farm, capable of either supporting itself or a small fleet of others. Each module slot allows for a single solar collector dish. They must be retracted beneath the hull to perform a Blink or high-G maneuver, and while deployed the ship is treated statistically as unarmored and unshielded, regardless of design. A ship with a deployed solar collector cannot cloak.

>Smart Mines
Medium
Replacing digger drones with programmable seeds of nanomachines allows the hive to effectively create metal trees. The nanomachines spread roots through the ground to locate ore veins, break them down and assemble them on the surface as metallic fruit-like bulbs for workers to gather.

>Carbon nanostructure construction
Medium
By using the ancient Raligha ship as a basis, and new construction techniques, you can implement more sturdy nanotubes and carbon based diamond filaments to slightly improve the stability and durability of your ships without impeding maneuverability or increasing cost.

>Genesis Project
Fast
By studying the practices and techniques on top of the dedicated technologies of the Gardener's hive, you can develop a method that can be used to rapidly spread foliage and life on a planet to develop a new biosphere. The process is time and resource intensive at the start, but with the use of weather spires the biosphere quickly takes root and becomes self-sufficient.

>Genetic tapestry
Fast
With the development of your recent clones, you have gained experience and knowledge in organizing alien DNA into effective and desirable formations to not only reproduce an alien subject, but also improve upon it. Now you feel you are ready to go even farther with your experiments in mixing and matching alien and drone DNA.
[Unlocks Chimera clone type]

>Laser cooled superconductors
Medium
Utilizing powerful cooling rays to maintain a temperature of near absolute zero, superconductors can be constructed and maintained out of cheap and easily replicable materials and nearly no cost. This would allow for the construction and maintenance of various mass transport and logistical systems that would improve the efficiency of hive activity.
The first set of prototype transport tubes have come online. A test canister was sent through the new system, reaching speeds of Mach 3 within seconds. The device reminds you of a railgun, especially when the test canister erupted from the transport tube and wiped out a small forest. In light of the setback your thinkers are placing more focus on braking systems.

>Quantum Entanglement engineering
Slow [50,000N 50,000M development cost, paid once]
Experimentation with the behavior of entangled particles could reveal potential uses beyond simple communication. Your thinkers have several tests ready to proceed to test the interaction of quantum entanglement with your own technology, although the tests will require the construction of multiple prototypes and test devices that will likely not survive the experiments.

Available research options

>Psionic Cannon prototype
Very slow/Very dangerous
Detailed accounts of several experiments show the slow progress of Project Godsplitter. The cannon itself is highly volatile, and even the smallest miscalculation often results in the destruction of the ship, as well as any nearby craft. It can only be equipped to a Hive ship's spinal mount, and requires a functional Void Shard as ammunition. At least a dozen testing sizes were atomized in testing the weapon, and in the end it appears The Gardener never quite perfected it.

Flash Cloning
Medium
While it may not be healthy for the clone in question, your mastery of biological technology allows you to accelerate the normal growth cycle of a clone, growing it to maturity within a single day, however clones are not as genetically robust as your own drones and doing so may cause undesirable genetic defects that may take time to reverse and result in a lower quality final product.

Microfactory chambers
Fast
Improvements in culture growing and bio-forming should allow you to create more compact shipyards, allowing for specially designed ships to construct shuttle or pod sized craft within their hulls. This process is still highly inefficient, however, and research is required to develop a more feasible method of design.

"Thing is done! Done thing for Queen!"

The thinker placed on Raligha shouts with glee as it reports its findings from its experiments with the dangerous and hostile plant known as the Greenwall. While the substance is fast to grow, it is parasitic in nature, gathering most of its own food from whatever it can get its roots into while only gathering small amounts from the local star. Despite this, it does offer several interesting adaptations of note. It is, in fact, more hostile and aggressive then your own hive creep, and your thinker, at your request, has isolated the genetic code responsible. You have already gone to work weaving the newly found aggression into your hive creep, allowing it to not only spread, but to do so more quickly and more aggressively than ever before.

As well as making your hive creep more potent, the weed's rapid growth has been incorporated into many of your selected crops of choice, and while it was not without some difficulty to do so, your algae now grows far faster then any natural plant on Leeland.

You also note several markers indicative of a hive's tampering in the past. You had already suspected, but now it is certain, the Greenwall is not a naturally evolved plant, but an engineered experiment left behind by the Gardener. It speaks to her skill that it had outlived her.

Fortunately, now that you have incorporated its own genetic structure into your own, your hive walls are able to contain it safely, as well as allow it to spread in a controlled manner. As it is, your Raligha hive keeps a large pit of the weed were refuse can be tossed in to be recycled. Outside the pit, the Greenwall continues to be a pest to the locals, and your local warriors have driven it back in many areas.

The sun rises slowly in the north west of Zero One, and your drones emerge from the shelter of the small hive outpost, shaking under the strain of the local gravity. You can hear the sound of distant creatures, and the periodic shadow of one of the gargantuan living kites move across the plains, mixing with the clouds above.

Your workers quickly move out to secure the area, making sure no structural weaknesses have revealed themselves. On this world, even a minor roof collapse would be certain death. Even a minor trip could snap a leg or worse. As they reinforce the hive structure your drones spot several moving figures through the morning fog, squat and slow on the plains.

You send out your drones out to scout the edges of your small patch of claimed territory and find the odd creature grazing on the thick grass. It appears similar to a massive slug, fat and bulbous, but supported by a hard shelled dome that helps distribute its weight. It leaves a depression of packed and barren soil behind it as it feasts on the grass.

Not that you can detect. The high gravity creates a dense atmosphere, allowing for incredibly large flying creatures to exist that would seem counter intuitive at first glance, but can fly due to dramatically improved wing lift. If they were to land, however, you suspect they would crumble under their own weight in most situations and appear to spend most of their time riding wind currents.

Your drones cover a wide area as quickly as they can, although the heavy gravity is hard on them, slowing them to a glacial pace. You suspect a human would snap in two on this planet just from the act of attempting to stand, but your workers soldier on.

As they continue your drones detect a series of seismic disturbances, and in the fog you find a large creature lumbering across the land, leaving deep impressions in the ground as it moves. Its back is covered in the thick grass stalks that cover the rest of the landscape, and its stride is rather awkward, leaning into each step in a manner you would think would cause it to topple. In the distance you see another as it leaps from the top of a small hill and appears to float to the bottom. Their bodies and heads are bloated, and their head drifts in the air as if anchored by the neck, not supported.

After several hours of observation, you suspect they are filled with a buoyant gas to aid in their movement, and not long after that your suspicions are confirmed.

The buoyant herbivore seems to detect the predator before you do, which you suspect is good, as it is far slower than your drones. It begins to run with a strange skipping motion that appears to almost mock gravity itself, but despite its somewhat whimsical appearance you do not mistake the urgency in its movements. A moment later another creature quickly moves in from over a small hill, its gait an awkward and delicate series of motions more like a power walk than an actual run, which you suspect would be a lethal action on this planet.

The hunter quickly gains on the floating creature, and you hear a strange snapping sound as a cloud of spindly thorns erupt from the creature's back. What once you thought was grass are now clearly some manner of natural missile, and they arc behind the creature as it runs and embed themselves upside down into the soil. Their roots, now clearly a series of razor sharp barbs, stick up into the air in wait.

The hunter slows, and you suspect it has lost its meal, but it quickly protrudes a strange appendage from beneath its head, uncoiling like a drill bit. The animal puffs up its body and with a great gust of breath, hurls the spiked barb clear over the razor-filled minefield, landing it clean into the side of the fleeing beast with the sound of a tremendous pop, followed by an anticlimactic wheezing whine of escaping air. The creature stumbles, and its leg snaps under its full weight as it collapses, rumbling the ground beneath it as its hollow torso slowly deflates.

The hunter, victorious, slowly moves around the mine field of razors and begins to eat its morning meal, and your workers watch with fascination.

You didn't think I'd just give you a balloon for a 70, did you?

Your drones move in slowly as the creature eats from the dead beast's underbelly. All in all, it is surprisingly small now that its large gas membranes have deflated, but it is still far too large to move without them..

Soon the creature seems to notice you. It sways its short, bushy tail back and forth in a show. From the back, the color appears to be similar to that of the front, giving a slight illusion that the creature is facing you as it eats. Clever, but not quite a technological leap. Your drones continue in, and the beast tears out a chunk of flesh as it rears its head to your drones and lets out a bellowing roar. Its stance, you note, has not changed, but its legs tense as you move closer.

Its chest mounted spine erupts forth and bellows out a harmless puff of air. As you suspected, it can only fire a single barb. You are unsure how long it would take to grow back, but you suspect that they do not use them lightly. You have your drones charge in, and the creature makes a break for it, almost entering an actual run, but your drones are already surrounding it, and as it attempt to pass a worker it extends it blades, slicing into the creatures leg. Under normal circumstances it would be a moderate wound, giving the animal a limp at worst, but that limp is a deadly problem on this world, and as the animal contorts its leg in pain you hear the crack of bone, and it slams to the ground, its head breaking open as if it had fallen several stories instead of half a meter.

>Blimp Walker dissection
Very Fast
This strange creature not only uses organic helium balloons to aid its movement, but is also capable of deploying a mine field of razor sharp spines to cover its retreat. Dissecting this animal should help you learn more about its interesting defense mechanism.

>Minesweeper dissection
Very Fast
An endurance hunter, the minesweeper is built for low speed, long distance moving. While incapable of high speeds, it can track a target to exhaustion, likely over several days. Despite its normal moda operandi, it possesses an ace up its sleeve in the form of a powerful gas-propelled barbed projectile that can be launched from a hollow tube running from the base of its throat, likely connected to its lungs. A detailed study of this animal should reveal more as to the nature of its strange trump card.

It takes some time for the rest of your workers to arrive, and it takes all of them to carry the horrendously heavy creatures. As your drones labor away you can hear rapid footsteps in the distance. A drone crones its head to look, and you see a pair of large metallic devices moving across the land. One shifts its view to you, and you can see an ocular lens shift with a click as it brings your drones into focus without slowing its stride. It gives you a long look, and then shifts its head back to look forward as the two drones continue over the horizon.

Your drones spend the rest of the day dragging back the new samples. They were easy to claim, but dragging them to your hive outpost is proving more difficult then it was to kill them.

Meanwhile, your first proper patrol craft continue on their rout.

As your patrol drifts through the rings of M-323 your patrol ships detect an unusual gravitational signal from the edge of the system. You signal your ships to hide and your mining ships cloak, although they are all already deep within the densest parts of the debris ring.

Your patrol ships creep to the edge of the rings and train their sensors on the detected source of the gravitational disturbance. Several hours later the light reaches you, and you see a flash of movement as an object appears on your scope without warning. Brief rings of radiation emanate from it and spines begin to extend from the hull, glowing vibrantly.

Whatever it is, it appears to be accelerating into the system towards the debris ring at a leisurely pace, and will reach the edge of the field in several hours.

>Transmit a language cipher

Your corvette emerges from the field and sends out a quick series of pings, then beams the language cipher, similar in nature to the packages sent between Theseus and Heretic, or the first contact package granted to you by Lee, it offers a quick lesson in the basics of the constructed language once used to facilitate communication between your ancestors and non-hive life.

The ship's radiator fins have slowly stopped glowing and retract back within the hull, and you see a set of large antenna extend from the front of the craft. It continues to drift, and you detect a pulse of gravitational anomalies as the craft adjusts its course to intercept your newly designated envoy. A torrent of radar, ladar, and a wide range of other sensors erupt from the ship directed at your craft, then sweeping along the edge of the debris field.

You detect several small objects fire out from the hull, directed above and bellow the stellar ring, each one bombarding the area with active multi-frequency scans. After several hours of silence, the craft transmits to you.

"Board. Trade."

"Friend."

The craft halts several light seconds from the edge of the field, expectantly.

Yes. Essentially it was built solely for speaking with non-psionic races, which is why all of the characters are plagiarized from the Skyl alphabet, but are used at random to express basic but decently useful concepts in ways designed to be easy to translate. It doesn't have a spoken form because the language itself is essentially a made-up code, not a naturally evolved method of communication.

It has been some time since you last had to use this language, and it is the first time you have ever actually used it to communicate, but it is a purposefully simple language. You sift through the archives for the proper words. Without inflections or proper sentence structure, the language relies on simple and direct statements. Crude, but very difficult to misunderstand.

"Identify self: Identify purpose."

You wait for a long while. The craft's probes continue to cast their sensors over the debris field around you.

"Traveler: Seek resources." It finally says. You doubt whatever name they call themselves would be able to translate. Even well known species often simply invent their own terms for each other instead of going through the headache to translate names.

As it speaks the probes systematically scan the surrounding area, until they are trained on your lone corvette.

"Board. We are friend." It repeats.

>Dock with your patrol corvette (single lone speaker)

Your corvette slowly moves out and its umbilical extents, attaching to the alien craft's hatch. It is a poor seal, but your ship oozes a small amount of reactive paste to make up for the lack in compatibility. As the umbilical pressurizes you feel a light thump and a probe flies out from the back of the ship. You detect a sudden gravitational disturbance and its form stretches, the front accelerating faster then the back. It continues to stretch, and the gravitational anomaly continues to increase around it until it rapidly compresses into nothing near the edge of the system, heading core ward towards the unknown systems.

The doors open, and you see the crew emerge. They are bipedal creatures, but the similarities to humans end there. They swing out into the umbilical on hooked feet, each ending in two long, curved toes on digitgrade legs. Their bodies are slender in build and clad in plated suits that hide most of their features while their arms and legs show hints of pale flesh beneath. Their arms are equally slender, ending in a wrist covered in a set of long claws on one hand, and a cylindrical mechanism on the other that hums softly with streaks of wires running into their forearms.

They flip by their feet and land onto the walls, where they quickly scale along the soft umbilical interior on all fours. Their heads are obscured by helmets, but manes of bone rattle in brightly painted crests across the tops of their skulls, each one holding a different pitch. They sound hollow, like carved wooden chimes shaking against each other.

The door to your corvette opens, and your ship broadcasts another request.

"Identify resource request."

Their response is much faster this time.

"All."

The creatures move in, their helmets appear grafted to their faces, fused with the bone and pale skin like a blank beak shaped face of glossy metal.

Small tubes extend from their shoulders and deploy into multi directional thrusters that send them into the air with puffs of compressed air. One of them appears larger, its limbs encased in layers of the same glossy metal as its face, and it moves up to your speaker, which stands alone in the chamber, anchored to the floor by its clawed legs. It looks up at the blank face, and your speaker's hide shifts in color to present its request.

"Request resource exchange: Convenient seating."

The mane of bones on this one is larger, which each one being longer and with a much lower tone. It rattles loudly as it makes to stand, clawing into the ground. It stands on the tops of its claws, with its toes curled into an arched knuckle. At its full height, it is nearly two and a half meters in height.

The others quickly move out, scouring the area around your speaker. Even having just met, you at least think you can identify confusion as several squads of the creatures move back, shaking their manes at what you suspect is the leader. It clacks and rattles in return, and it brings its cylindrical device up to your speaker. It hums lightly, and in a flash of heat you loose contact with your speaker.

You don't think they ever actually wanted to trade.

Several small turrets swivel along the craft's hull, and hooked cables fire out, anchoring into your hull. Once more, you detect a gravitational disturbance, and the ship begins to accelerate away from the debris field.

Your corvette's weapons pivot to face the alien craft, and its weapons pivot in turn. The two open fire against one another in a close range broadside the likes of which you have never known. The hull of your craft boils and crumbles, and the turrets ignite as their weapons target your ship's offensive capabilities. Your weapons impact against a shield, but damage bleeds through several small pockets left unshielded from the deployed cables. Your other ships quickly accelerate after them, and you feel the sting of weapon fire as the probes accelerate after them, lashing out with bursts of energy weapons that boil away fragments of your corvettes' hulls.

Your patrol corvettes pivot their weapons to face the small drones and unleash a hail of explosive anti-strike craft slugs against them. The impact of shrapnel causes their shields to flair like tiny suns, and they bounce back and forth tumbling from explosion to explosion before spinning out of control, their hulls disintegrating from the force of their spin. One of them looses a small missile salvo as a last act, and your corvettes fill the space around the warheads with weapons fire. They disappear in the void of space, leaving behind nothing but vapor.

Your corvettes turn back to the fleeing craft as the broadside continues, their ship burning away the weapons from the captured ship. You can feel the boarding party moving within it, blasting through hallways and tearing at veins that they must suspect as controls. You can sense their frustration as they search for a command deck.

You are surprised at the capabilities of the alien ship, but despite its speed you are still closing in. You open fire with your cyclotrons, loosing bolt after bolt of energy against the target. As your formation closes in to lance range a torrent of fire engulfs the ship.

You feel the wires snap, whipping at the hull and sending your corvette tumbling away. With the sudden loss of mass the alien ship shoots ahead, plowing through the flames of plasma, its armor glowing and warping from the heat. Glowing canisters fire from the sides of the hull in rapid succession and the hull itself stretches out, its bow accelerating faster then the stern, and then compresses to nothing, leaving behind a burst of radiation, a fine mist of boiled armor, and the alien boarding party.

Your corvettes can still follow the gravitational disturbance, for a split moment as it leaves your sensor range at ever increasing multiples of light speed, on a course for the uncharted blue giant directly core ward.

After the sudden and violent jolt, you are unsure of the condition of the boarders. Your ships are capable of negating the sensation of acceleration, but impacts or sudden maneuvers are unaffected.

well maybe not the full sphere but a ring, we got plenty of time to research better materials while that is growing.
>>
>>38265218
The nutrient/metal conversions are... abstractions to an extent. I doubt QuestDrone would allow us to use solar energy to produce nutrients to convert to metal indefinitely without external input because to do so would be contrary to the established mechanisms.

It's not so much an issue because we have tons of ships that distribute and redistribute resources with arbitrary ease, but still.
>>
>>38265218
A solid structure like that would never, and will never work. Dyson's Dyson sphere was actually hundreds of thousands of individual pieces, orbiting freely from each other.

Your drones surge through the damaged corridors of the corvette towards the boarding party. You can hear them rattling at each other, the clacking of their manes echoing through the halls. Your flies scout ahead, and quickly find the first of the creatures. They are attaching small devices to the walls of the corridors, and as your flies close in several of them take notice. They swing their weapons at your drones and bolts of light leap out, detonating against the walls. One of the blasts hits one of your flies, and its leg vaporizes, the matter detonating in a flash of super-heated air. Your flies quickly fall back, and you have your warriors move in from all sides.

Several chitinous seals flex open where they likely assumed was only more wall, and warriors begin to move in. One of the aliens is hit with the non-lethal weapon, covering its torso in a layer of constricting membrane. It claws at it, then returns fire, its weapon vaporizing layers of chitin and sending your warrior reeling back. Others take its place, and soon there is a crossfire in all directions as your drones force the aliens to fall back down the twisting dark hallways.

A heavy warrior lands on the wall where one of the aliens had attached itself, crushing its body beneath it as it digs its claws into the living wall for grip. It reaches for the alien and tears its head from its body, tossing it aside and sending it bouncing against the far wall. The body thrashes, clawing at the thick armor of your heavy warrior until it brings its arm down on its torso and triggers its sledgehammer. The body explodes, sending globules of purple gore scattering in all directions. The metal chitin rod of the hammer slides back with a his and your heavy warrior turns its gaze to the next group. They open fire, and armor bubbles and ignites across your heavy warrior, the force of sublimation sending it tumbling down the hall, but more quickly take its place.

As your warriors continue to press further, they continue to give ground. As you push them further back they seem to sacrifice each other, with one attempting to slow your advance as the others continue to fall back. You watch as the larger group places more of the small round devices onto the walls of your corvette interior, and then continue to flee as your drones herd the groups into a central location. A lone alien remains behind, placing down heavy fire in the corridor. The pack of compressed air let out minor hisses of corrections as it fires. They do not appear to suffer noticeable recoil from their weapons, and their packs allow them to swivel with astounding speed to face any direction. It lands several well placed shots in your approaching warriors, ignoring the splattering of cellophane from the non-lethal rounds.

The warriors finally close the distance and claw at the alien. It swipes at them with its free claw, its long blade-like talons burn into the chitin of your drones as it enters the melee with surprising effectiveness, placing its claws deep within the warrior's thorax and carving out a swath of chitin. Other drones move around it in an attempt to capture it, and it thrashes out with its legs, grappling a warrior and pulling itself behind it with its curled talons.

A warrior's blade catches it as it flips, the glowing hot metal hits the pale skin and drags itself deeper with the vibrations of the serrated edge and slicing clean through the thin arm. It is nothing but bone, a dark purple pouring from within. Another blade claws at it, seeping into its torso with a sizzle and the alien twitches, then grows still.

You continue to drive them back, and they continue to sacrifice themselves to slow you down as their main forces converge in a central chamber, all the while leaving small disks implanted into the walls. A passing fly investigates one of them, watching as a small light flickers on and off regularly in the center of the disk.

The warriors swarm over the alien creatures, tearing into flesh and snapping bone. They return fire with their weapons, boiling away chunks of your drones' chitin in steaming heaps. As each warrior dies the next moves up under the provided cover, and soon they have encircled the few remaining aliens. Motes of blood and chunks of armor and bone float in the air, filling the room with a morbid stench. The aliens fight to the last, and the largest among them rattles its mane in defiance as it clicks a small button along the side of its weapon arm.

Your flies move over the small disks, slicing into the walls around them. Small strands of metal reach out in all directions, twisting through the living walls like an infection. Your flies attempt to remove it, pulling the thin wires from the flesh of your corvette. You feel a sudden jolt of heat, and the wires glow white for a moment, and the walls around them vaporize.

The blast funnels through the halls of your ship, cracking the hull from the inside and sending super heated vapor spewing through space like a bottle rocket. You can hear the blast rushing through the halls, and feel the heat. A heavy warrior charges the alien leader, arms outstretched.

"Capture for Mother!"
It's brief and simple thought fills its mind as it winks out, its body enveloped in flame. Encased within the chared body is the last of the alien raiders, battered and wounded, but alive. Additional drones are quick to enter the blasted out hull of your ship and they quickly retrieve what is left.

[new research unlocked]

Unknown alien dissection
Very fast
At the moment you know next to nothing about these creature, other then that they are hostile. Dissecting the various remains of their dead should reveal more about them, and how to better kill them.

Unknown directed energy weapon
medium
A mysterious weapon of unknown composition and capability, picking apart the various remaining samples should reveal more about its nature.

Bipedal, apparently has a redundant nervous system enough that the body was still struggling after we took it's head off.

They have continued to fortify Unity patrolled space from the looks of it. Heretic has incorporated newly acquired technology into his own ship designs, making new ships smaller and more compact, although he does not appear to be retrofitting old craft. The produced ships are periodically sent through rifts, presumably to fortify the picket forces of other Unity systems.

Theseus's server ship also has improved the output of Skyl attack ships, producing improved corvettes at almost twice the rate as the Skyl drive ship alone.

Repairs of Zero One also appear to be coming alone nicely, although large swaths of infrastructure still remain obliterated.

QD, because you mentioned earlier that FTL-ing inside an atmosphere was a bad idea, and it makes sense considering humans use black holes, Theseus warps the fabric of space and the Ceph use the crystals, but what would happen if we "blinked" while still inside the atmosphere of a planet?
>>
>>38266150
Should we inform them of these new aliens, so they don't get conned like we would have if we weren't properly paranoid?

I can't really imagine Heretic getting any trouble from them for some reason. I feel like he would just mercilessly beat them down and take their stuff before they got the chance.

>>
>>38266276

Here's a counter argument.
>A weapon's output is in direct proportion to its potential as a maneuvering thruster.
>>
>>38266194

Things *could* be fine, such as a pod blinking from a moderate altitude. The most likely event would be that the ship would appear in a random location within safe blink distance, but there is also a decent chance that the ship would be atomized, with its component matter smeared across spacetime like melted butter on toast, or that the random location it appears in happens to also be the same location as the core of a planet, or a sun, or a black hole, or another ship (which would be both exceptionally rare, and horrifying for everyone involved)

As for the burst of radiation, it would depend on the ship blinking, but for reference, a pod blinking away would be similar to a moderate meteor strike, and could flatten several acres of forest, and cause a shock wave capable of shattering windows and causing permanent hearing damage to people within a mile, and lethal amounts of radiation to anyone much closer.
>>
>>38266329
ok. So on-planet = Bad for everyone involved.

But could we use a ship outfitted with not our-FTL to destroy a planet if needed? (such as the obsydian queen's planet)
>>
>>38266329
Think we could perfect a drive variant that could blink in atmosphere safely?
>>
>>38266359
The whole planet? Probably not.

Folding space would just bring whatever is nearby with the ship, resulting in a large spherical crater and a large blast wave as the air fills the vacuum. Larger ships blinking in an atmosphere would be comparable to nukes. A Valen gate simply can't work outside of a vacuum due to technical limitations.
Probably the most destructive FTL effect would be ramming a warp drive into a planet, which could potentially devastate an entire continent.

>>38266409
Not safe enough to be perfect, but you could potentially improve the likelihood of survival.
As it is, you already did it once. Your pod evacuating your drones from Tadega blinked away from the blast of the bombardment and into a random location several light years away.
>>
>>38266441
Well, something to think about for the future i guess. Even if we can make only minutely short jumps safe from in atmo then it will be a win.
>>
>>38266329
So, What would happen if we had say, A thousand pods Blink right into a city at the same time?
>>
>>38266031
So this was the Happening this week you had to prepare the expanded map for.

Also, how feasible a research option is it to create a tech that interferes with enemy blink drives into an area, making them less accurate? Or blinks out of an area?
>>
>>38266441
So ramming OQ's planet with human FTL-drive shuttles from all directions is a legitimate method of killing her hive?

We're gonna need lots of Canderon
>>
I'm thinking of having a few thinkers and Quantum thinkers just sit around thinking and not researching. It's to have them come up with topics for innovation and research, just from perusing the knowledge we already have. Plus, if we need them to analyze something we're seeing through our drones, they're available. What do you Anons think?
>>
>>38266485
>>38266524
Or we could just use the Immolator warhead.
>>
>>38266534
I'm fine with having a Skunkworks sitting around philosophizing until we need them crunching numbers for battles.
>>
>>38266473
Like a mix between a nuke bombardment, a microwave oven, and the plot of Half Life 1.

>>38266481
Theoretically, anything that could alter gravitational forces on a blink capable ship would be able to decrease the ship's ability to safely blink away.

Also yes, between the new species introduction and Theseus's poor first impression of your distant cousin, quite a few things needed an updated map. I'm just glad I got it sorted out now.

>>38266485
I'm delirious from sleep deprivation, and am no good at math, but I think that the amount of canderon needed would actually be more expensive then an Immolation warhead.
But yes, I suppose that is one way to ruin a planet.

Not yet, but it takes a few days for eggs to hatch, so it would be good to have at least a few large bio-tanks around instead of having zero. We already committed to a hundred hybrids, so we need more bio-tanks anyway, if not that many.
>>
I still think we need to have a sit down with Heretic and Theseus and make a proper allegiance. Agreement to support eachother's military, agreeing to share all information on the obsidian queen and the black crystals with eachother.

What do you guys think we could call the alliance? The Gestalt alliance? Legion?
>>

Yes but what're all the parasites for? We have nobody to put them in, maybe 30 prisoners but that doesn't justify 970 of them.

Where's the post where QD prompted that vote?

It still lists only 12 bio-tanks at top of thread.
>>
>>38267094
See how easier that makes it? 70's a good number, don't need 970 parasites crawling around the hive like stray kittens.
>>
>>38267130
They can get piggy back rides from the workers as they go about their day, leeching off their blood from the back of their thorax.
>>
>>38266858
So you'll be rolling 100d100 offscreen for the cloning project then?

Once we've mastered 100 entirely newly generated human genomes, we might want to just keep using those same genomes, and then alter the face, retina, fingerprints, or other biometrics after the fact with surgery.
>>
>>38267156
The next thing you'll say is...
> I'm only pretending to be retarded.
>>
>>38267035
We don't need a formal agreement with them because we already have one. Heretic hates the Void Gods and by extension Black Queen for what they did to his masters.

Theseus will help us because they've proven to be an active threat to him.

Also, there's only the void crystals in different states. The White crystals are when they're active and have power in them. The Black crystals are what happens to white crystals when they've been used in the psionic cannon or broken by something else, these are basically husks.
>>

>The White crystals are when they're active and have power in them. The Black crystals are what happens to white crystals when they've been used in the psionic cannon or broken by something else, these are basically husks.
No.

White Crystals we can actually produce, they are made of actual matter.

Living void shards are the fuel for psionic cannon, and using them like that turns them into dead shards. Neither of which are made of matter.

There's no indication yet if one can turn into the other, but their composition seems incompatible. They mimic each other, but they seem way too different.

What?

She used the dark crystal as fuel. It became a dead shard afterward.

There are living void shards, that are clearly not white crystals. The dead shard we salvaged is entirely different from them. It's dead. It doesn't whisper.

Those are the 3 kinds of crystals we've found so far.
>>
>>38267552
>all the same thing
Except they're nothing alike.

The white crystal is white. The void shards are black, and come in two flavors: those that whisper and are alive, and void shards that are eerily silent, being used up fuel.

The Angel shards whisper, and are alive, and are clearly not white, they don't resemble them in the slightest.
