You blink your eyes open the next morning, rays of sunlight shining through the nearby window into your face. Shifting slightly, you realize that your bed seems to have a few other occupants, and then you recall what occurred last night.

Lisa and Jenna were still sleeping soundly next to you, as well as a few of the other monsters in your bed. You note Riolu seems to have gotten up by now, as is usual for him.

You’re not sure if Lana or Maggie are awake yet, but you did want to talk to them today about some of your concerns.

You started slowly shifting yourself, carefully moving to try and avoid waking the others. However, as you begin, you quickly discover that Lisa's arms are wrapped around you and as you try to pull away she pulls you closer. Jenna, who is between the two of you, shifts herself towards Lisa, trying to find a comfortable spot with the sudden movement. As she does so, you find one of your arms pinned under hers, leaving you only one hand free to try to escape.

You start by peeling Lisa's hands from your back, placing them on Jenna instead. You position the first without much difficulty, though her arm underneath you proves to be more problematic. It's tangled with yours and trapped under both you and Jenna, and moving it with your free arm will be a challenge. As you try to position your arm to give you more leverage, you suddenly feel something soft, identifying it quickly after a few squeezes.

"Ceil?" you hear Lisa say tiredly, "What are you doing?"

In your haste to draw back your hand, you inadvertently roll over and off the bed onto the floor, taking the blanket with you and landing with a thud. So much for not waking anyone.

Lisa gets up shortly after you, though Jenna seems content to lay in bed for a while longer.

With that start to your day, you decide what to do next.

"I'm going to try and find Maggie or Lana," you tell Lisa, "There's something I needed to discuss with them."

"Alright," Lisa nods, "I'll get started on breakfast then. Make sure to not take too long."

You nod, heading out of the room, starting your search upstairs. The house is rather small, and you're hesitant to barge into any of the bedrooms. The entrance to the attic is closed as well, so you doubt either of them are up there.

Heading downstairs, you can already hear Lisa moving about in the kitchen, though you also spot Sharron in the living room, playing with her doll once again. She glances up as you walk down the stairs, before smiling widely and running over to you.

"Ceil!" she calls out, hugging your legs, "You came back to visit! Lana didn't say you'd be visiting. Do you wanna play with me?"

"Maybe in a bit," you reply, patting the young girl on the head, "There's something I needed to talk with your mother or Lana about. Do you know where they are?"

"Lana's out back doing the laundry I think," she replies, frowning slightly, "So you can go talk to her and then come back to play."

"Alright, thanks for your help," you smile back, heading for the door. You move around the exterior of the house towards the back, and sure enough you find Lana hanging up sheets and clothing to dry. You notice her lantern hanging on a post near the edge of the yard, as well as a well nearby.

"Good morning!" you call out. You almost think she didn't hear you, though after finishing one of the sheets she turns around and begins walking over to you.

"Good morning Ceil," she replies curtly, "I sense you are eager to discuss the reason for your visit?"

"Yes, that's right."

"Well, I'd be happy to speak with you once I finish the laundry," she nods, "Or if you prefer we can wait until after breakfast, and then my mother would be available to discuss it as well."

"I'm not in a big rush," you say, "It can wait until after breakfast."

"Very well," she shrugs, turning away to head back to her task.

"Do you want some help with the laundry, by the way?"

"If you like," she responds, "You can take care of the sheets."

You set to work removing the blankets from the basket, giving them a good shake before hanging them up on the lines. With the two of you working together, you finish rather quickly, heading back inside afterwards.

Once back in, you smell that Lisa's breakfast seems to almost be ready. You head into the kitchen, and she gives you a quick smile as she begins getting out plates. Lana helps her with that, and you do your part by helping set the table nearby.

Once all the places are set, the others start pouring in. First Shannon, still holding her doll, then her mother Maggie, looking rather tired and still wearing a nightgown. Jenna is the last one to stumble in, and awkwardly takes a seat next to Shannon

Once you're all settled, you begin to eat.

"So, how have you all been? Anything interesting happen?" you ask.

"Nah," Shannon sighs, "It's always super boring around here."

"We try to avoid undue excitement," Maggie smiles, "Though I'm sure you could regale us with interesting tales of the trouble you've been up to."

You decide to go over the various events that have occurred to you since you last spoke. The problems you've had, the monsters you've met, the blockade in your hometown, what happened with Lisa, and even when you met Jenna. You decide to leave out anything related to Honedge for now, as well as not mentioning Jirachi. No sense making things more complicated.

Lana nods along politely at your story, while Maggie seems to be enjoying your tale somewhat. Shannon and Jenna though are completely enraptured, constantly peppering you with questions. Eventually though, breakfast winds down and your story along with it. Lisa helps Lana with the plates, while Shannon invites Jenna to play hide and seek upstairs. You watch her accept shyly before the two run off.

"So, I'm guessing this is more than a social visit?" Maggie asks, a slight grin hinted on her face.

"Well, there was something I wanted to ask you yes," you reply, noting that Lana and Lisa have returned to the table.

"Well, I found a sword during my travels recently," you say, placing it on the table, "I'm fairly certain its a ghost as well. There hasn't been much trouble so far, but I wanted to get a second opinion."

Maggie nods, examining the blade for a moment before lifting it into her hands.

"It seems you have quite a bit of luck," she states, "Though whether it's good or bad remains to be seen. Anyway, I'll start by explaining ghosts in a bit more detail. You're already aware that certain ghosts have an appearance both as a normal object as well as their true form, which can only be seen by a medium or in certain other cases."

"Right," you nod, recalling what she told you before.

"In addition to this, all ghosts feed off of life force in some way. Typically, stronger ghosts require more of it than weaker ones, and they gather it in different ways. Certain ghosts, such as Shannon's doll, feed off emotional energy, which they can subsist off of in small amounts without any difficulty. Others, such as Lana's lantern, feed off of life force more directly, which is directly harmful to whatever being it feeds off of."

"To keep my lantern fed," Lana interjects, "I typically leave it outside overnight where insects are drawn to it's flame. Any that touch it are quickly drained of their energy."

Maggie nods before continuing, "I can tell by looking at your sword that it functions in the second way, using life force to sustain itself. Judging by its form, it could do so in two ways, either by draining a victim of its edge, or by siphoning off of the wielder."

"I had that part figured out," you reply, noting your current experiences.

"Yes. However, ghosts do not quite feed in the same way as living creatures. If a living creature eats too little, it will die, whereas if they eat too much, they get full. Ghosts do not suffer from this. A lack of food may cause one to go dormant, eventually lashing out with extreme hunger at the first available source."

"Similarly, a ghost that becomes greedy is never sated," she continues, "It starts taking more drastic actions to gorge itself more and more. For a creature that eats life force directly, this can be as simple as attacking people. For those that subsist off of emotions, they usually go to great lengths to cause strong emotional distress, sometimes even invading the dreams of their victims."

"Wait, you mean-"

"Yes, the ghost in your dream was likely suffering from an extreme bout of hunger to do those things, though whether it was out of starvation or gluttony I could not say."

"It is important to make sure you do not overfeed your sword," Lana says, "It should not be a problem so long as it uses up the energy, but if it stockpiles over the long term, it might attempt to lash out."

You nod. You'd been using its abilities rather frequently, so you don't think there was any excess.

Do ghosts change like other pokemon? How does that work?
Can it move on it's own eventually?
I can talk to it, but it's kind of disjointed. Is that normal, or could maybe you talk to it better?
Honestly, maybe just a crash course on ghost ownership.

Also, totally invite them to visit town if they're ever nearby.

"Do ghosts change like other monsters do? How would that work?"

"I'm sure you're aware how ill understood that process is, even for normal monsters. All I can tell you is that ghosts do the same."

"Will it ever start moving on its own? I noticed Lana's lantern doing something similar."

"Ghosts can move, though I'll doubt you'll ever witness them doing so. We mediums see them for what they are at all times, while others such as yourself can only perceive them on a basic level. You may find your sword misplaced from where you left it, but it won't begin floating around attacking you if that's your concern."

"I've also noticed that it speaks strangely. I've been able to talk with it somewhat, but its words are always very disjointed."

"Hmm...interesting," Maggie replies, pondering for a moment.

"Many ghosts speak in a similar manner," Lana replies, "They do not enjoy speaking at length, and it is often difficult for them to do so."

You nod, "Thank you for taking the time to explain all of this."

"It's no trouble at all," Maggie smiles, "It's nice to have company, especially since you brought a friend for Shannon to play with."

"Well, you're more than welcome to visit me," you reply, "Although I'm not sure if you'll ever find yourselves nearby."

You leave the kitchen, heading upstairs to see how Jenna and Shannon were doing. As you get halfway up, you can hear them speaking.

You decide to wait for now, waiting for her to finish counting. Once she reaches 30, she spins around, dashing into the nearest room. You quietly follow after her, listening to her as she searches for any trace of Shannon.

Once satisfied, she heads out of the room to the next one, and you can tell she's getting increasingly frustrated after she finishes that one and walks back into the hall.

"I wish I knew where to look for her," she grumbles, "I'm sick of losing."

Almost at the same moment, you see Jirachi's perk up for a moment before closing her eyes. You watch as she gently floats in front of Jenna, pausing for a moment as her scarves gently drift till they're both pointing in the same direction.

"Huh?" Jenna blinks, "Is that where she is?"

Jirachi gives a slight nod, and Jenna scoops her up in her arms, hurrying towards where she was pointing. Once she enters the room, it takes her only a few moments to investigate all the likely places, before eventually uncovering the girl in a rather narrow spot behind a bookshelf.

"Found you!" she calls out, grinning.

"Aww...I was really proud of that spot too," Shannon frowns for a moment, before smiling once again, "At least now this game will be more fun."

"Yeah," Jenna nods back, pleased to finally win a round.

"Well, I bet it'd be even more fun if you had more people to play. How about I go get some of the monsters and we'll all join in?"

The girls smile in delight at your suggestion, and the three of you hurry to gather all the monsters to play hide and seek. You go ahead and get Riolu and Frogadier, though Shelgon you doubt could go up the stairs. Jenna gets Sylveon and her two Sprtizee as well, and Shannon managed to find Lisa's Sentret somewhere. With everyone gathered, you settle on the rules, with you being it first.

You opt to just try your best, searching each room one by one. You find the Spritzee first, their unique aroma giving the small birds away. Riolu is next, since he decided to hide in the bed you slept in last night, leaving a very obvious lump.

You next find Shannon hiding behind the bookshelf from earlier. You suppose she thought you weren't aware of it. Jenna is hiding under the bed across the hall, Jirachi right next to her.

Sentret and Sylveon give you the most trouble. Sentret was disguised as one of the pillows on Shannon's bed, blending in with the rest of the plush. Luckily, you spotted the movement of its tail, which gave it away. Sylveon somehow managed to hide itself in the dresser in what you assume to be Maggie's room, specifically in her underwear drawer. You quickly pull the cat out and close it, making a hasty exit afterwards.

The one that gives you the most trouble is Frogadier, which is odd since he's one of the larger ones present. As you pace down the hall to double check, you hear a slight creak behind you from one of the floorboards, and wheeling about you find the frog miming your footsteps. He croaks sheepishly, you didn't expect him to be shadowing you like that, but then again you suppose there wasn't a rule against it.

The girls congratulate you on your amazing hide and seek skills, and you have to admit you did find them all in very short order.

You play a few more rounds, though soon your group exhausts all of the best hiding spots and the game winds down.

It's been a while since you've had the chance to play around like this. You're very glad Jenna's having so much fun.
