As conversation about the demonstration you put on begins to die down you turn your attention to your mother. “Say, you wouldn't happen to know anything more about the deal my father struck with Emir Yasin, would you? I know that he's to be granted lands and titles in the disputed lands, but I've yet to learn what those lands or titles might be.”

Your mother swats you lightly on the arm. “Mikhael! You shouldn't discuss family business at a party like this! What if someone heard?” She scolds, although there doesn't really seem to be any malice to it.

You gesture to the rest of the gathered women. “Who must we fear among this group, Mother? We're all family, save of course Darzi. I trust her enough not to go revealing our secrets to rival nobles.”

Your mother huffs, but after a moment responds. “All I know is that your father believes we're to receive the lands along the Bay of El-Amin, directly opposite the city. Your father believes we'll be granted the entire southern coastline, though I am not personally so optimistic. Three of my brothers, I don't believe you've ever met them, are minor lords within the disputed lands and from what I've read in their letters the region is terribly unstable. They have had a poor crop this season and with food scarce they've resorted to raiding their neighbors for supplies. My brothers are not the only ones doing it either, such violence is endemic within the disputed lands.”

Huh, you never knew your mother was originally nobility from the disputed lands to the south of El-Amin. “Who was your father that three of your brothers inherited titles? Such partitioning of family lands is rare.”

(1/3 or 4)
>>
A hint of pride enters her mother's voice. “You are descended from the blood of conquerors, Mikhael. You as well, Azra. My father was a great general who won fame and fortune battling the Samrat's forces in the far south. When he returned to his lands after more than a century of warfare, he brought with him a retinue of veteran soldiers and experienced mercenaries which he had gathered over the years. Though only a Bey with a single keep and a small fishing village within his lands, he conquered almost the entirety of the disputed lands before succumbing to the ravages of time and the burdens of old wounds. Only a few disparate northern provinces had resisted his rule.”

Darzi, with some hint of incredulity in her voice, seems to guess at your mother's identity. “You're the daughter of Rasul Singh? When I was training to become an officer we were required to read all of his books on strategy and tactics, the man was a genius! The way he used long spearmen not as a defensive force to counter cavalry chargers and protect skirmishers, but as an aggressive and maneuverable main fighting force was brilliant. We still imitate the square formation he developed to this day. Not to mention his writings related logistic concerns-”

Your mother raises her hands in mock surrender. “Please, please! You flatter me, but I never had the stomach for the business of warfare. It was all my father could talk about! Siege this, assault that, it never ended! I barely got to see my home at all, I was usually with my father on the front following the army.”

You're amazed that this is the first time you've heard this story. “How have I not been told this before? Yours seems like a heritage to be proud of, I didn't even realize your family had been anyone of actual import.”

Your mother once more swats you lightly on the arm. “Of course my family was important! Did you think your father would marry some backwater nobody for some flimsy reason or another? Of course not! As for why you've not heard this story before; well, I'm sure I've mentioned it in the past when you were younger but you were so rarely home. You really should have visited more often, Mikhael. I think this last week is the closest you've been with your family since you left for that madman's home when you were but a child.”

Conversation after that turns towards your mother's father. Well, mostly it's just Darzi gushing about reforms and new tactics and revolutionary weaponry your maternal grandfather introduced to warfare. Whilst they're distracted, you lean over and quietly ask Vasuda. “Would you mind speaking with me in private? I worry about you.”

She clasp her hands nervously in her lap, but nods brusquely. “That sounds lovely, Mikhael. Shall we step into the foyer?” There is a certain strain to her voice, though you're not sure if anyone else notices it.

The both of you excuse yourselves and retreat to the foyer just outside the ballroom. The water pouring from the ceiling above onto the various stone pillars which fill the hall give the entire room a very relaxing atmosphere. You sit down beside the reflecting pool, Vasuda joining you a moment later.

Her posture is stiff, and you notice that peeking out of her collar are several fresh, purple bruises. On her wrist as well. That said you must admit, her robe is lovely. It's a deep red with touches of black to highlight, a swirling golden pattern around the collar reminding you vaguely of light streaming off the sun. “What did you wish to talk about, Mikhael? I hope I haven't offended, if I have I can assure you it was purely accidental. I would never wish to insult you.”

Man, can we just stop pussyfooting around the Vasuda thing and see if we can get someone, preferably a void entity or spirit, to watch over her? Bonus - if it's a void entity or spirit, we can just have it fuck with whoever is hurting her.

Or eat their fucking toes.

Golems are the answer anon, i still think we should read the permanency/enchantment notes that hint of that shit being somewhat intelligent.
Its already been speculated that to make a phylactery we would need to use permanency and something else to the point of almost killing us, so it isn't far fetched that they could gain some form of intelligence since its us basically putting our soul into something
>>38304427
?
>>
You rest a hand on her shoulder in what you hope is a comforting gesture, though she flinches away from you. You decide that physical contact probably isn't the best idea right now after all. Resting your hands in your lap you speak softly, so as not to spook her. Gods above, you hate what she's become.

“It's okay, Vasuda. You can relax. I'm not my brother. I just wanted to assure you that Chryssa meant no offense with her earlier comments at dinner. You know how humans are, they're a barbaric people lacking in grace. Her people value bluntness and stoicism and she has yet to acclimate to our more refined culture.”

She slouches, resting her head in her hands and rubbing her eyes wearily. “I know, I know she didn't mean anything by what she said. She is a sweet girl, if dimwitted. It is just... I cannot escape this sense that I am helpless. That I am not the one in control of my own fate. That the world moves around me but I am not truly apart of it. Even the mention of that bastard's name...” She straightens up, wiping her eyes on her sleeves and in the process smearing make-up on the expensive silk of her robes.

You wave a hand, channeling Water magic. In an instant her eyes are dry and water condenses from the air to wash out the stains in her robes and upon her cheeks. Then the bruises which seem to cover the entirety of her forearms and most of her torso and thighs begin to fade. Your brother really did a number on her, you'd guess that he took a cane or rod of some sort to her based on the injuries you're forced to heal.

She breathes a little easier once she's no longer in presumably immense pain. “Why did he do this? What drives him to beat you? I can't fathom why he would hate you with such a passion.”

(1/2)
>>
>>38304424
I'll be blunt anon, that is a fucking terrible idea
>>
Vasuda seems once more on the verge of tears but manages to keep herself together. “He came home last night shouting that I ought to just go screw 'that arrogant asshole of a brother'. You, presumably. He started to hit me with a riding crop, and kicking me after I feel down. I thought he was going to scream at me. I must have passed out, because I don't remember much after a while.”

Boiling rage wells up in your gut, driving you to find the ship your brother's sailed off on and set it alight, burning him and anyone unfortunate enough to associate with him alive and leaving them to rest at the bottom of the sea, feasted upon by the various horrors of the deep which dwell there. You suppress that rage, but it leaves a bitter taste in your mouth knowing that you set that asshole up with a presumably attractive new wife and sent him off to live in the lap of luxury in some foreign land.

Why is everyone ignoring the fact that we already told him what we would do if he hurt Vasuda again.

And then he went and did it.

Are we liars, Anon? Are we just too weak to follow through with what we say we will? I mean, we got him a banging wife and a life of luxury instead. Is that his reward for beating Vasuda after we told him? Is that where we're going to leave it?

Just saying. We don't have to do anything about it right now. But he owes us, and Ricky, his right hand. We're going to collect. And if he really is sorry, and repents, then we'll graciously heal it for him.

You broach the topic carefully. “Well, I think I have some news you'll be happy to hear. My father is sending Salil to Aleamond. He's been married off to a Demir in order to put to rest a growing feud between our two families, and now he's being sent off indefinitely to represent our family abroad. He won't be able to hurt you any longer.”

She looks at you hopefully. “Has he really been sent away? When will he leave? Has he left already? Is that why he did not join us today?” The questions come rapidly, and you hold up your hands in mock surrender, begging she slow down. She shrinks away from you initially, but then lunges forward to wrap her arms around your chest, nearly knocking you back into the water of the reflecting pool.

You return the gesture, gently stroking her back to hopefully sooth her frayed nerves. She's shaking like a leaf, and you find her surprisingly frail. She's skin and bones, really. You're forced to wonder if your brother restricted her access to meals too or if she simply hasn't been eating as much as she should. “Easy, Vas. He's truly been sent away, and so far as I'm aware he's already left. My father chastised him for his treatment of you once he became aware and this is his punishment. Hopefully he will not strike his new wife as he has struck you.”

Moisture seeps into your cloak as choked sobs fill the room. Tears of joy presumably. At least, you hope so. Her words of thanks are muffled by your chest, though you still manage to make them out. “Really, you should thank my father. He was the one who ordered my brother away.” At your suggestion, admittedly. Truthfully it was all your idea, but you're not sure if you want Vasuda any more enamored with you than she already is.

Look. For now the situation is settled, Salil is leaving and won't be back for a long time.
>>
As she begins to regain her composure she disengages from you, wiping her eyes. She's actually smiling for the first time since you've seen her, a big goofy grin. It warms your heart to know you've managed to give her at least some modicum of happiness through your efforts. “Would you like a tour of the estate? Some time away from the others ought to allow you to compose yourself.”

She nods quickly, and you push yourself to your feet. She does the same, and without another word the two of you pass into the dining hall. You debate for a moment where you ought to take her first. She'd probably like the gardens, she used to love the gardens behind your family estate, but perhaps it would be wiser to save the best for last.

Because seriously, a rich Vatis who is of Grandmaster level and from nobility threatens him and spawns fucking tentacles from his hole-in-reality cloak didn't do shit to deter him, you think Vasuda fighting back is going to do anything more than make him angrier, unless she kills him?

You're right, wife beaters NEVER abuse their children at all. It's not super common in any way. he'd probably rape them as well once he got a taste for it from their mother, you know, since it would be necessary for there to be kids in the first place.

As someone who was beaten, you mean? Being in chains/imprisoned (by itself) isn't the same as being beat.

Hey, everyone says they want to make up with him instead of kill him, and obviously I'm not a good enough rabble rouser to convince them that this is the right choice.

But, maybe we can do this instead? He'll reveal that all along, all he really wanted was our dick, and that he was actually jealous that Vasuda had a chance where he didn't. Then we can inform him that he can only get to our dick through our sons, and force him to take a steamy dragon load up the poop chute while we heal him (I assume it burns like fire).

We get to punish him, and we get a subby incest trap fuck boi so we don't have to worry about waifu wars.

I mean, if we're going to be retarded about how we deal with him, we might as well go all the way.

You lead her up the grand stairs of your dining hall, pausing every now and again to expound upon the story being played out beneath your feet in the woven carpet that lines the stairwell. She seems enraptured by your retelling of the Emperor and the Imperator. Of course, that may simply be because you use illusions to enhance the retelling, the scenes playing out in vivid color right before your eyes, in far more detail than can be easily represented on a woven rug.

By the conclusion of your tale, with the Rhynian army fleeing into the distance, you've reached the top of the steps. You consider briefly whether to introduce her to your adoptive son, or show her the library, or perhaps the observatory high above. However, eventually you opt to show her the gardens. She always has loved nature. You slip through the thick glass door, holding it open to allow her in. She gasp quietly at the sight of your vast collection of both foreign and native plant life.

You gesture her forward with an elaborate flourish. “My gardens. Well, they're not really mine I suppose. A friend payed for most of what you see to provide cheap ingredients for her pursuit of alchemy. I must say I'm rather pleased with them, to be honest.”

She starts forward, and you follow beside her as she explores the racks upon racks of flowers, shrubs, weeds, molds, and fungi. “This is beautiful, Mikhael. I've never seen so many different varieties of plantlife in the same place.” She still seems far more subdued than you recall her beingi n your youth, but at least she seems a little more outgoing than she was a few moments ago. A little more energetic.

You reply with a shrug, stopping to inspect a small lattice of some sort of creeping vine. It's laden with heavy, black berries. The tag on the wooden rack the plant sits upon reads 'Solanaceae' and according to the tag, the black berries are incredibly poisonous. By contrast, the ripe red berries are quite delicious if consumed sparingly.

You're distracted from the apparently poisonous plant by Vasuda's voice. “Mikhael, come look at this!”

Curious, you join her in standing before a particularly strange sight. It's a well groomed little miniature tree. Its branches are splayed out attractively, forming an interrupted canopy. The trunk is gnarled, and looks as if shaped from a dozen different threads twisted together. It sits within a bed of moss, and frankly you're not sure what to make of it. You'd be inclined to think it's a seedling, but its appearance is ancient.

The two of you wander the gardens for some time. You don't talk much, though you don't particularly feel the need to. It's a comfortable silence that you'd rather not interrupt. As you finish exploring the gardens, the two of you return to the second story balcony.

Next, you decide to show her the library. She was never much of a reader so far as you recall, but perhaps that changed as she grew older. With you in the lead, the two of you wander down the hall and into the vast collection of books that constitutes your library. You're surprised to see how they've altered the place. For one, they've added an entire second story. A narrow balcony stretches around the ceiling, containing yet more shelves. The broken desk has been replaced by a far sturdier desk, and a large scroll repository takes up the back wall.

She spins around as she enters, admiring the wood paneling that they added to the ceiling and just taking it all in. You do much the same, pausing to examine a book labeled “Of Military Matters”. Seems to be some sort of Rhynian manual of arms. It actually gives you an idea.

The next step would, logically, be using water magic to turn him into a real girl.
Maybe we could use him for other experiments, too.
Mistral arms (that grope him constantly), finding out whether there's a pleasure effect to compliment pain or crafting golems in order to fuck him.
>>
“You know, Vas.” She stops examining what appears to be a history of Hiacia to turn her attention to you. However, she doesn't speak so you continue. “Darzi would likely be willing to give you lessons on self defense, if you would like to learn such things. She was, or is, a Captain of the City Guard. She can likely identify with your plight. I won't reveal the nature of her troubles, as it's for her to decide whether or not to share that information, but she would be a good person to befriend as you recover from what my brother has done to you.”

She fidgets nervously, a silence growing between you which she only reluctantly breaks. “I was actually thinking, or, well, hoping that I might lean upon you for support as I enter this bright future without my bastard of a husband to prevent me from truly living my life. It would be just as old times, or at least I hoped it would be just as old times.”

Just as when the two of you were engaged to be married. A risky proposition. Disregarding the fact Chryssa seems rather territorial, it would be adultery. You could both be punished should anyone produce convincing evidence or even simply a good argument that an affair was taking place between the two of you. Even the suspicion would be enough, considering your shared past.

She's saying that we should hang out more, but I wouldn't be surprised if it develops into an affair. There have been some hints that she wants to be with Mik not only in a platonic way (e.g. shouting our name on her wedding night). Of course it's not certain it will turn out this way.

You wouldn't be executed (in most cases, the exact punishment is up to the judge but execution would be way excessive), most likely just publicly whipped.

>>38306647
It could be interpreted both ways. If she's just asking to be friends again, then it's perfectly innocent. If she's asking to rekindle the relationship, it's highly inappropriate. I won't give an exact answer, I left it open for interpretation intentionally.

The general sentiment seems to be
>Friends, sure
>Lovers, nah
So you'll clarify the friendship thing, and assert she is still married after all...
