/tg/ - Traditional Games

It takes you a few wavering steps to get your land-legs again, as you shuffle towards the front of the Airliner doing your best to muscle the people in front of you along, your carry-on duffelbag slung over your shoulder. It contains everything you need for a three-day trip to your home country. Behind you, Miho is taking advantage of the hole you're punching through the crowd as you move out across the airplane-bridge-thing and into the lobby.

You are Commander Russells of the M26E1 Pershing Heavy Tank “Black Jack” and you're on a business trip. Or maybe its a diplomatic trip? You're actually not sure why you're standing in the lobby of SFO, or who you're meeting. You turn toward Miho- maybe she'll have a better idea of what to do when an all-too-familiar voice cuts across the din of the crowd.

“Well... If it isn't the conquering hero returning home...” You turn back to focus on the source of the voice- a lanky Korean kid with the barest whisp of a teenage mustache leans against the end of a row of chairs. “And you've brought home some spoils, I see?”

He moves forward as Miho comes to your side, politely taking her hand and kissing it. “Miss Nishizumi, I presume?” He says as she blushes furiously. “Pleasure to make your acquaintance.”

Well, last time San diego beach was mentioned, so how about La Jolla beach? It's not as busy as Mission, and has lots of sea life for swimmers. Miho might like that. Also, guess what the quiet family restaurant area is called: Little Italy. Though, if we hunt, we might be able to find a good French place.

What I've seen, from others mind you, is that lower tiers just get over Penned, which given War Thunder emphasis(ish) on realism and the high survivability of the crew, can be a problem. Most kills are either the tank burning down, ammo explosions, or Shrapnel killing the crew.

You give him a quiet, hurt face. “Lee- I-I thought I was your one and only?” You say, almost about to break into tears. Miho looks to you confused, then looks back to Lee, and back to you.

“Its fine, baby. You know no woman could come between us!” He replies smoothly as he goes to shake your hand before pulling you into a back-patting hug. “Good to see you again, man.”

You wink at Miho. “Miho, this is Lee Yu Han, the second best tank commander in North America...” You say, slinging an arm around your fellow tank commander. Lee had been your first ever opponent in tanking, and had been on of your closest friends outside of your crew ever since.

He shoves your shoulder a bit. “Now listen to you- win a few battles and knock out a King Tiger and now you're getting delusions of grandeur...”

You part from him a bit. “And, this...” You say, presenting Miho. “Is Miho Nishizumi, our Team Captain- and my girlfriend.” You punch him lightly in the shoulder. “So mind your hands!”

The three of you walk down the airport concourse, Miho glancing around hungrily. “So, what brings us here?” You ask Lee. “Seriously- we got a letter with a couple of airplane tickets...”

“Same thing that brought me here, probably- though I'm sure your trip across the pond was faster...” Lee was based out of San Jose, further south. “I really do hate the 101...”

“So you got a letter too?” You ask, puzzled.

“Letter, but no plane tickets and the hint of funding. Figured it was worth the trip north.” He says with a shrug. Funding was always the kicker for American tankers- you usually got some support from your school, sometimes the military would offer to pay for a tournement and a few tanks even got to the point where they picked up sponsors. But buying ammo and fuel was always arduous, and that was before you got into the various repairs and upkeep.

Someone offers to pay that for you and any tanker would listen.

“Oooooh!” She says, pointing at a Charlie's Subs. “Can we eat there?” She asks, in surprisingly decent English. “It smells good!”

“You want your first American meal to be one of those grease sandwiches?” You don't mention the fact that it had been the last thing you'd eaten in America- which had been something of a mistake considering the eight hour flight directly afterwords.

I don't think anybody saying "wait for something better" has ever actually eaten at Charlie's.
>>
>>38324491

>>
>>38324491

Ain't saying Charlie's is bad- I have it for lunch all the time- all I'm saying is that I generally have a 50/50 chance of getting the shits after eating it.
>>
>>38324491

>>
>>38324539

Lee thinks for a moment- he knows the Bay Area better than you. “Lesse- well there's a In-N-Out up on the Wharf if you can wait to get up there- Its not far from where we're going.” He shrugs. “Could do Chinatown, too...” He turns back to the conversation at hand as you exit out onto the street where a Taxi is already waiting. “So, I guess my hopes that you have any idea what's going on are dashed... Don't know why I'm disappointed.”

“Is it just us?” You ask as you open the door for Miho and the three of you squeeze in. It'd normally be a tight squeeze, but Miho's slight frame in the middle makes the fit not too uncomfortable. “Figure two tank crews in one place, there's gotta be more.”

“There are- All the big hitters- Jackson Teague,” He starts counting off on his hands. “Kitty Black, The Branson Brothers, Joey Lopez...” At the last name you blanch a bit.

“Crap.” Joey's a nice enough guy, Commander of the Pz.V Panther “Bronx Baller”- just gotta keep him isolated from sisters, daughters and livestock- though it had been entertaining convincing Rose to give back his arm when he'd gotten a bit too friendly with your gunner.

“Yep. The look on his face after that though... Priceless.” Lee smiles and leans back. “So, In-N-Out?”

“Well, its greasier than Charlies but...” You start to say as the taxi makes its way from the the airport.

“In-N-Out?” Miho says. “I've heard of that! Its supposed to be good!” She says excitedly- she isn't wrong, either. As far as fast food goes there isn't a lot out there that's better. “Let's go there!”

You look across to Lee who shrugs. “Well, if its on the way...” You say and Miho looks about as happy as you've ever seen.

“Lee, yes?” She says. “What sort of tank do you command?” She says, making conversation.

He grins. “M4A3- 76mm armed with Wet-Stowage.” He opens up his wallet and pulls out a picture of it. “There she is... Gold Digger.” He says with pride.

“Did your tank combat?” Miho asks, taking the picture to look closely.

Lee nods. “Yep- She managed to survive from Bastogne to the end of the war...” He says. “Checked her serial number with military archives. Even found a few pictures of her!” He flips his wallet to another picture. “That's her in Cologne... Original crew.”

You laugh. “Don't mind Lee, Miho. He's been tracking down every scrap of information on that old thing since he's been in command of it...” You smile as the comparison comes to mind. “He's like Yukari, but just for his tank...”

“Hey, just because I didn't have the last sixty years of my tank's history handed to me on a silver platter, like some people...” He jabs back.

Its an interesting thought, though. You'd always taken Black Jack's history for granted. “Y'know, we both know a ton about our tanks... What do you know about your Panzer IV, Miho?” You ask, and she actually gets a bit of a quizzical look on her face.

“Actually- not a lot.” She says, staring down. “Kuromuromine had documents on all their tanks- where they were made, who they were crewed by, where they fought and how they survived the war...” She continues looking down. “They always wanted 'real' tanks that had fought- Mom always used to say tanks had to be hardened by battle and quenched with blood.”

“Sounds like a real charmer...” Lee says under his breath, eliciting no reaction from Miho at all.

You stick an arm around Miho. “We should take a look when we get back- maybe the History Club can do some poking around.” You lean back in your seat. “Meanwhile, I'm starving- how long until In-N-Out?”
