You are Reinhold Eschenwald, master swordsman and victor of the Royal Swordsmanship Tournament. The King was so impressed with your skill, he personally requested that you be transferred out of the army and into the Royal Guard! Not bad for an orphan who was raised in a brothel in a poor fishing village.

One of many issues that you're forced to deal with at this point is your assignment... you've been charged to be the personal guard of the King's only daughter Marianne. While she is the vision of loveliness that you'd expect from a Princess, her personality is... well... she seems to have some issues.

After accepting a certain proposal, you and Luciana teamed up for your first battle as a couple. And knowing her, there will be many more to come.

>Congratulations, Reinhold is now a ferocious TIGER!
>Strong and fearless, tigers are the only predators known to feed on lesser dragons.
>The Princess considers you to be her dear friend and fierce protector!
>But while tigers truly are impressive, they still fall short of being considered as people.

Your eyes snap open.

"Wha......?"

You're... lying on your back? And the night sky overhead would imply that you're outside, not to mention the hard ground underneath your legs.

Oh.

That's right.

You and Luciana killed Leopold together, and then you collapsed in her arms (or rather the area in between those arms) before you could give her a victory hug... that much be why you're lying on the ground right now. The ground is hard and cold, but the area underneath your head's rather soft...

"Luciana!" Inaba shouts. "Reinhold awake!"

Long red hair streams down from the girl who's leaning over you, and she meets you with a warm smile.

"Feeling better?" Luciana asks.
"Ugh..." you try and push yourself up, but for some reason your entire body feels heavier than when it was made of metal. "How long was I out for?"
"About five minutes," she replies. "Don't worry, you'll be fine in a bit."

You have to admit that it -is- pretty comfortable here on Luciana's lap. You'd be happy to rest like this all night if at all possible-

"Shit!" you blurt out. "Niklaus and Takamaru!"

Just before Leopold came back for that second round, the building that they were in collapsed! Monique flew off to try and help, but he had yet to come back before you fainted...

"Don't worry, everyone's right here," Luciana says, propping up your body so that you can see Niklaus treating the leg that Monique hurt during the fight with Leopold. And Takamaru's standing off to the side, picking rubble out of his hair.

After two weeks of catching up, (still on thread 155) and having lurked in the first three threads. WE'RE DOING IT LIVE.
>>
>>38322160
Nope, we need to press on and look for Vincent before we head back. We can't afford to lose him.
>>
>>38322074
Yeah you'll be fine not like we just chased the guy responsible for the attack across 3 countries.
>>
>>38322200
We can't capture a kingdom by ourselves. And we'd have to go through Marconeti or Perricone.
>>
>>38322212

>>
>>38322200

That's about the only thing left. Rescue Vincent. For there own good.

Otherwise Gregory comes.
>>
>>38322246

>>
>>38322200

>>
>>38322064
>>38322099

holy shit
>>
>>38322229
This is not a take over, just a rescue mission. This is our last chance to get him back or I bet that archelon kills him off.
>>38322275
We can still track. Nikouls and the Bunny is here.
>>
>>38322269
You mean the attack in Marconetti?
>>
>>38322308

We likely need a nights sleep regardless.
>>
>>38322308
You track things by following a trail.

There is no trail if the person was moved via instant transposition.
>>
>>38322327
Not at all.

>>38322347
We should at least ask the others if they know anything. Nikalus has got to know something.
>>
>>38322308
To what end though? Only 2 of our group are still combat effective and we've accomplished our current objective.

>>38322347
I'd suggest following the smoke trails, but considering it's night we won't likely be able to do that.
>>
>>38322064
Ooh, nice. I love the folds on the skirt.
>>
>>38322308
First, it's Vincent. If anyone will be alright, it'll be him. And if they managed to deal with Vincent, we won't be much help in our current state.

Secondly, we can't track him by scent. He was teleported, he was never at any of the points between where he was and where he is, he left no scent, there is no trail.

Our ways of finding him are either for Niklaus to do some magic whatchamajabber, or to have someone fly up and look for major tectonic events nearby.
>>
>>38322331
So be it, Be we can't go back yet. Arch will end the quest if we go back.
>>38322347
pic related.
>>38322370
I want us to complete the extra objectives. I don't like to leave loose ends dangling.
>>
>>38322408
We know there a way to see people long distances away using magic, Leo mentioned it.
>>
>writing
>>
>>38322308
I don't think archelon is a massive asshole like that, though it will need to be resolved.

Then we can finish decompressing through the epilogue before going into withdrawal and crying about not getting to play Red Meteor Quest.
>>
>>38322429
Best we could do would be to check if he was ever here, and our ability to do that seems questionable since our mark doesn't have any strong smell like Luci did.
>>
>>38322408
Niklaus may have a 'detect vincent' spell. You never know when a man needs to not be mauled.
>>
>>38322358
>We should at least ask the others if they know anything.
We already know Leopold teleported Vincent to his mansion. The real question is where is said mansion? Was it this building, or is it somewhere in Ancellotta?
>>
>>38322513
I'd imagine that once a man uses you to make a crater, you devise a spell to locate him and measure the distance between you.
>>
>>38322545
It wasn't this building. Otherwise it wouldn't have been standing when we arrived.
>>
What happened to the ownership status of the collar when Leopold died?
>>
>>38322666
Next of kin?
>>
>>38322666
Leo didn't own the collar; he was its custodian for the duration of the operation, since IIRC it's the owner who needs to cast the spell to recall the object.

Which means whoever was given "ownership" needed to be there on the other end in order to swap Vincent through, which means he probably got his face punched in.
>>
>>38322684
Well, that'd be his brother, and he's not half the man he used to be.
>>
>>38322666
Leopold wasn't the owner of the collar, the owner was whoever it was that cast the spell that teleported Vincent away.
>>

Boost really is a hell of a spell. You're so spent that you can't even freaking sit up on your own right now.

"Luciana, could you..." you glance upwards.
"Oh, of course!" she replies cheerily as she pushes you upright, resting her arms around your chest while the back of your head rests against hers.

While this is most certainly a pleasant sensation, you do happen ot have some somewhat pressing questions to ask.

"Are... are they all okay?" you ask. "What the hell happened, anyways?"

Luciana breathes a long sigh.

"Takamaru?" she calls out. "Would you mind relaying to Reinhold what you told me?"

Dutifully, the Princess's bodyguard abandons his hair maintenance and makes his way over to the two of you.

"It is good to see that you are awake," Takamaru says to you with a faint smile. "And... thank you for rescuing the Princess."
"Thank you for helping," you reply. "But... what the hell happened back the in that building?" you ask. "It exploded or caved on or-"
"...oh, that," he sighs. "After you and Monique fled in pursuit of Leopold and the Princess, the flow of guards in the building grew to the point where it was getting difficult to deal with. While Archmage Sucher were more than a match for them, the limited space that we had in which to fight, combined with the... -aggravation- that it was causing led him to do something rash."

Takamaru seems really annoyed just talking about it.

"I managed to use my shikigami to form a shield around us to protect us from the fallen debris, but it took some time to free ourselves once everything settled," Takamaru says. After some more idle chatter (Takamaru in particular seems to be in an extremely good mood all of a sudden), he steps away to talk to Inaba and leaves the two of you relatively alone for the time being. "You know that we're in the middle of a hostile enemy country, right?"

Oh.

You try and pull away from Luciana, but you still haven't rested enough to muster up the energy to do so. Luciana laughs at your wasted effort, clearly amused with seeing you squirm like this.

"There's no need to rush, silly," Luciana says, leaning down so that her chin touches the top of your head and begins chanting.

"Oh tired child come home from play, come to rest in my loving arms," Luciana says as her warm breath calls forth glowing red SCript. "But your day is not yet over, young one, so rest now so that you may once again join the others who would leave you behind."

"Restful embrace."

It's as if the crushing fatigue that you were feeling just seconds ago was never there, and your body is once again filled with strength. Surprised and elated, you pull away from Luciana and stand up on your own two feet for the first time in what seems like forever.

Even though it was only like ten minutes ago in reality.

"...thanks for that," you say to Luciana while offering her your hand.
"Well it's not like I could just eave you there helpless, after all," Luciana giggles as you help her up. "And how are you feeling now?"
"Like I just had a full night's sleep," you say.

>>
>>38324430
We need to go back to the castle and make a plan to rescue vincent
>>
>>38324430
"Do we have any clue where Vincent was sent? If not, I think we should head back to the castle and deal with the remnants of the invaders."
>>
>>38324430

Find out what everyone else wants to do.

Vincent is still missing, he was sent to Leopolds estate he stated. If we had any idea where that is, we could find it.

This is likely going to be the easiest chance we have to sneak in and get him, after this war is basically going to happen. The boarders will tighten then.
>>
>>38324430
Time to get out of this country. Any attempts to rescue Vincent should come after Luciana is safe.
>>
>>38324503
Yeah, but what if Vincent is completely fucked and if we leave, he dies? Fucking Vincent would be dead.
>>
>>38324521
Luciana>Vincent
>>
>>38324521
That would be the logical conclusion to how we've treated Sylvie.
>>
>>38324430
Pow-wow. We've gotta get together as a group and hammer out a plan. The sooner everyone knows Luciana is safe, the sooner they'll feel willing to remove the kid gloves for future ops now that the diplomatically-critical hostage and the enemy mission objective is safe again.

If it gets out that we took Luciana back, though, they're going to transition into using Vincent as the hostage instead. But for now, they're mostly just keeping him in order to make sure he doesn't run around smashing them into pieces for the duration of the primary operation.
>>
>>38324500
>he was sent to Leopolds estate he stated
When was that ever stated?
>>
>>38324521
And that means we need to put a princess back in harm's way? For a noble who outmatches most people?
>>
How the hell would we even find him?
>>
>>38324572
Niklaus, probably.
>>
>>38324430
Probably should get Luci out of the country. Don't need her to be captured again. Or piss off her dad who might be viewing us right now.
>>
>>38324572
We could ask if Niklaus has a way of detecting him, but if he does not we should get the hell out of here.
>>
>>38324430
We could always split.

Send Lucie, Inaba, and Takamaru back home, and the rest of us go onward for Vincent.
>>
>>38324575
Well he can't smell him out. I guess we can ask if he knows some magic trickery but he may need his lab.
>>
>>38324601
We've probably nearly drained or mana supply and spent almost all our scrolls. I don't think that's advisable unless we definitely know where Vincent is kept.
>>
>writing
>>
>>38324601
Honestly, if we're going to split the party we might as well let Nikalus solo this mess. I'm pretty sure Vincent can't one shot KO him anymore, and his new owners will probably release him to make the craters stop.
>>
>>38324430
>>what shall you do now?
We could ask what to do about Vincent. But really we should bring Luci back so Gregory doesn't go full on destructor of worlds because she's gone.
>>
>>38324430
Ask if we have any way of finding Vincent.

If we do, send Takamaru, Luciana and Inaba back home and consider searching for him with Monique and Niklaus (that is, if they even want to come along).
>>
>>38324572
We could try the same thing they did with letting the captured Devil Child "escape", since we know whoever has Vincent must necessarily be the person they entrusted with ownership of the collar, and thus is someone who is a mission-critical conspirator.

They're the only really important person left that we know of (outside of assorted Ancelottan ringleaders), and it's critical for their operations as a whole that they know we took down Leo and brought Luciana back, so sending word back to them is the most important thing for a surviving mook to do.
>>
>>38324625
Even then it would be best to have Takamaru send a message to the castle with an update. We may need some help with this one, assuming we can find Vincent in the first place.
>>
Are there any PGQ lewds yet?
>>
>>38324679

This is correct. I don't know where people are getting the mindcontrol thing from. That type of magic doesn't even exist in this setting.
>>
>>38324727
You're right. It just seems kind of silly to go "Nah, he'll be fine Ramboing his way out from behind enemy lines. Leave the front door unlocked so he can find his way in when he gets back." when we could try and send him some support.

After doing a few stretches to get your blood flowing, you take Luciana's hand and walk over to a piece of rubble that Monique is using as a makeshift seat while Niklaus sees about healing the leg that was trapped earlier.

"Welcome back to the land of the living, Reinhauser," Niklaus says, turning away from Monique to wave at you. "I apologize for not being able to assist in your climactic battle."
"Everything turned out fine in the end," you reply, "so you don't really need to."

And besides, he's the one who led you to her in the first place, not to mention getting you into the building where she was being held.

"You two are doing alright?" you ask.
"I am unhurt," Niklaus replies, "and I just finished healing a minor fracture in your friend here's leg."

You have to admit that it feels strange to have someone actually referring to Monique as your friend.

Nah, we should go home then grab our brother in law so he can sketch and later paint the history of Vic's deeds destroying a country.

I get the feeling that the people who know how to use spells wouldn't usually be lower class, which is the type of people who usually become slaves
>>
>>38324880
I think the thing that makes them anti-magic is a side-effect of it making the world think they're part of an inanimate object, since inanimate objects aren't something the world would acknowledge as being able to form Script and so on.

I'm mostly curious about what would happen if the collar was placed on a Sealed King wielder, since the world classifies the gestalt of a person and their Sealed King as being an Elemental (which is why they can access its abilities) and obviously the world allows for physical objects (regardless of what they are actually considered within the world's taxonomic system) to still be treated as being Elementals.
>>
>>38324965
>I'm mostly curious about what would happen if the collar was placed on a Sealed King wielder
Man, I want to know this now. And what would happen if we collared a Sealed King.
>>
>>38324813
>>38324841
At the very least, we can put on an old Steve Reeves movie
>>
>>38324932
In most countries Mages are the ones in charge. The collars are to stop slaves from being able to learn magic in the first place. Slaves being able to cast magic would make slave revolts a thousand times worse.
>>
>>38325031
Kek.
>>
>>38325026
If you get collared, you would be considered an object instead of a person to the world.
And I guess objects can't wield Sealed Kings.
>>
>>38325079
But could you still BE a Sealed King? Would the sword just become a "normal" blade if we put a collar on it?
>>
>>38325115
It's already seen as an object.
>>
>>38325115
I guess it's still a Sealed King, but can't use it's powers anymore.
>>
>>38325115
>Mwhahaha, I have enslaved a sword. DO MY BIDDING SWORD

The big question we need to ask is what happens if you unite all the kingdoms into an empire to lure the bezerk fire elemental from the north out and collar it.

Im not wrong about there being an unsealed fire elemental in the North, right?
>>
>>38325115
It would presumably appear to be a normal blade in everyway (besides any visual fanciness sealed kings have) with no abilities to cast spells or communicate magically, however the spirit within it would still be intact, just with no way to interact with the outside world.
>>
>>38325079
I assumed that would be the logical case if you tried to pick up a Sealed King for the first time while collared, but if you were already using one at the time the collar was applied you'd already have been the same entity as the Sealed King in the eyes of the world. And they don't have any problem being both an object and an entity as far as the world is concerned.

It's why I thought the question was worth asking about as a thought experiment.

"I'll be fine as well," Monique says as he puts his bot back on and stomps on the ground a few times with his newly-healed leg. "So what now?"
"Hm?" you tilt your head.
"You're able to stand once again, so what's our next plan of action?" he asks.
"...oh," you sigh. "That's actually what I was about to ask you guys."

After Luciana waves Takamaru and Inaba over, you continue talking.

"We could leave now," you say, "but Sir Vincent was also captured... I already dragged you guys out here with me so I don't think it would be right to plan our next move without consulting you first."
"Wherever the Princess goes, I shall follow," Takamaru says, crossing his arms. "Be it travelling deeper into this Godforsaken country to rescue Sir Vincent or flee to your home."

You were expecting that.

"...they actually..." Monique gasps. "LEOPOLD did that!? How!?"
"Substitution," Luciana replies. "Leopold stuck a slave collar onto him that was originally meant for me, and he was then substituted with a straw effigy."
"Of all the..." he shakes his head. "King Thierri hasn't sent the Army in to invade this country? His best friend's been kidnapped!"
"They're busy fighting off an invasion back home," you reply.

And so far they appear to have been the only threat that this shithouse nation was capable of mustering, considering that they fell over themselves to pay out the ass to give those dumb hillbilly Contractors not only military training, but magic training, and then to educate them and teach them etiquette as well.

They literally dumped a ton of money to raise and train them. They were the nation's trump card because everything else in the nation was shit tier.

I'm pretty much agreed with Monique's assessment that we should stick around to see if we can find a lead, but that it isn't worth committing to a wholehearted 6-men-and-a-sword invasion of Ancellotta to invent Saving Private Vincent unless we can find something solid to go on.

Interrogating an enemy kidnapper is not something solid, since they just get to point us toward a location of their choice full of enemy soldiers and hope they can finish the job.

The spirit of adventure fills your very being.

"I guess we're going to try and rescue Sir Vincent," you say to everyone.

But then your common sense kicks in.

"...but we turn back if we get too far without finding any clue as to where he is," you say. "I doubt that any of us is equipped to fight an entire army on their home soil, and I'm not about to let Luciana get kidnapped again."
"That's fair," Monique replies.
"And before we do ANYTHING," you turn to Takamaru, "we ought to send word back home that Luciana's been secured. Takamaru, could you send a note with one of those paper birds? I'll write it."
"Very well," he replies.

"I always have pencils on me," you say as you pat your chest. "...oh."
"What's wrong?" he asks.
"Luciana's wearing my jacket," you reply.

You'd completely forgotten.

"Oh, there's in here?" Luciana asks, raising her sleeve-covered arms in a way that's just so freaking adorable that you could hug the hell out of her right now. "Which pocket?"
"The inner breast pocket," you reply.
"Ah..." Luciana looks down and starts to smile. "I'm not particularly familiar with the way that men's garments are set up so if you could maybe take it out yourself...?"

"Yeah, alright," you reply with a tired sigh as you head over to Luciana, circling around her back because that's the orientation that the jacket's in when you're wearing it. From there, you lift your arm over Luciana's shoulder and reach into the chest section of her jacket.

The sensation of the delicate fabric of her bra brushing against your hand causes you to flash back to... something... but you quickly recover, trailing your hand against the inner portion of your jacket until you reach the pocket.

Ah, there it is. Grabbing the pencil, you pull your hand free from its warm prison... taking care to trace your writing implement along her breasts as you go.

"While there certainly was what you were referring to," Monique replies, "he also mentioned something about his backup not arriving in time."
"Come to think of it," Takamaru says, "It is extremely strange that we have been able to just sit here and regroup unmolested."
"...not entirely unmolested," Monique mumbles under his breath while glancing at you. "But yes, I was thinking the same thing. Leopold also mentioned there being a base twenty miles away from here... perhaps that's where the Princess was originally supposed to be transported to?"

And in that case, that's where Sir Vincent would be.

"Makes sense to me," you reply. "...but that still doesn't say which direction it's supposed to be in."

You're in a grassy clearing at the moment (or at least it was before you started fighting), but it's not like you can see any major landmarks.

Did he mean their Capital ship? Okay, fine. Some swashbuckling boarding action might be cool, and dropping their kidnap victim right on a boat that's already in the water is probably a smart idea.

Obliquely talking about the place they're keeping their funds? Extra-fine since we might get to pick up some sweet souvenirs from their vault.

You think about putting it back into the jacket pocket that you took it from, but opt to wait on doing so. While you're not completely averse to enjoying yourself in that manner, now probably isn't the best time to be groping your fiancée.

Not to mention that Monique would be no good to you in a fight if he ends up fainting from your racy public displays of affection.

"Luciana, remind me to put this back later," you say to her in a low murmur.

Luciana shoots you a look that can only be described as "bedroom eyes" just before Inaba takes off running. Going at a brisk pace, she assumes the lead while the rest of you follow closely behind. But unlike before, you see that Niklaus has taken to the skies... as well as Luciana.

Then again, neither of them really seemed like the running type.

Picking up speed with the help of Tailwind, you make pretty good distance in little time, zooming through a forest on foot while the others fly low to the ground in order to keep from being spotted. You're pretty surprised by the fact that you don't come across a single soldier in the meantime... from what you'd heard from Sir Gregory during his lectures, Ancellotta's supposed to be a pretty militaristic country with soldiers patrolling all over the place.

Having the priority target in the very back is usually a bad idea when you're trying to move through uncertain territory. If you're sure that all of your enemies are going to be in front of you, sure, but otherwise you're going to want to put them closer toward the middle of the pack.

Hmm. Wasn't really considering threats from behind, given our speed. But slowing down I suppose changes that calculation.
>>
"Then you stay here," Inaba snaps at him. "I go ahead by myself."
"No," you shake your head. "We don't split up the party. This is enemy territory and I'm not about to risk any of us getting captured."
"An understandable sentiment," Monique replies. "And Setsuranka agrees with you wholeheartedly."
"Then let's go," Luciana says.

After making sure that Luciana stays in the middle of your formation, you join Inaba in the lead position. You continue through the forest for a short distance before reaching a clearing... it looks like a road.

"The city limits... to whatever this is," you say.
"...wait," Luciana gasps. "I recognize that picture from my tutoring sessions!"
"What's wrong?" you ask.
"The one right over there," she points at a towering spire, "that's the Royal Tower of Ancellotta!"

.........Setsuranka led you to the enemy CAPITOL.

Big explosion in the capitol. Looks like someone picked the wrong prisoner.

The whole "One man army" thing is generally confined to marconnetti and granache, right? Were not about to face a squad of doom warriors or some shit?

Well that explosion is either a very very good thing or a very very bad thing. I can't wait to find out which.
>>
>>38327052
I think it's been mentioned that Granache explicitly has an overabundance of badasses, and that they're consequently fairly prosperous because they need to retain less of a standing army than their neighbours?

I think that's the case, yes. They probably have Knights who are on par with us and maybe a very small number of super badasses, but Granache is fairly unique in having a castle full of people who can singlehandedly destroy armies.

It's a symptom of the King and all his closest friends and advisers coming from a high-level adventuring party. Hell, Marconetti's only S-tier badass is Celestino and he got that stronk because he was part of Thierri & Co's adventuring party too.

"Shit shit shit shit shit" you mutter uncontrollably as you gaze into the city and see all the soldiers running in the streets. Brandishing weapons of all types, they're all headed...

...away from you?

"!!!" Inaba's hair and ears stand on end as the very ground below you rocks violently.
"L- Leopold again!?" Monique gasps. "But I -saw- the Princess's magma-"
"No," Inaba shakes her head. "Not dirt man."

She points into the distance just as that same Royal Tower thing that Luciana singled out begins to crumble to the ground. A hollow roar echoes through the air and the ground continues to tremble...

And then you see it.

Slowly, a massive stone structure rises above the surrounding buildings. At first you think that it's a pillar like the ones that Leopold raised while fighting you, but as it continues to rise, you notice that there's a gaping hole carved into it

with a glowing green orb floating inside.

You soon come to the realization that what you're looking at isn't a stone "structure," it's a stone HEAD. And connected to that stone head is a stone neck, shoulders, chest...

...a massive beast unlike anything you've ever seen before stands in the center of the city.

"It..." Luciana places a hand on your shoulder. "...it doesn't look like it's on Ancellotta's side. Look, it's destroying their buildings and their mages are trying desperately to attack it."

Sure enough, it's most definitely not acting like it's allied with anyone in this area, smashing the ground repeatedly and swatting away volleys of magical projectiles.

My guess is that Ancelotta, the /Slaver Kingdom/ somehow managed to trick and enslave elementals, forcing them to contract individuals of their choosing.

They stored them in their most secure facility, which is - incidentally - where Vincent probably ended up, since, y'know, he is a massive threat on a national scale if handled improperly.

And he might just have freed one of their trapped elementals.

That's my guess at least.

Step 1: Niklaus, we're gonna need you to snap out of it, friend. This is kind of important.

Now that I'm thinking about it, we know that Vincent is inside the city limits, right? Can Takamaru attempt to send a bird to him now that we know roughly where he is? I figure they're flexible enough to work on the city level, or else they wouldn't be much help for message delivery if they couldn't find people once they left a specific building.

If the bird flies over to the elemental, that'll be about as much proof as we need, if (as unlikely as this option is) it flies somewhere else we're golden, and otherwise we don't lose all that much time by giving it a shot.

"I'm going in to see what I can do," you reply. "But I need you and Takamaru to look after Luciana for me while I do that."
"What?" Luciana shouts. "I'm not about to leave you-"
"You're a VIP and even if it's in the middle of being completely destroyed, this is the capitol of an enemy nation," you say to her. "It's too dangerous to bring you in there, especially with all this going on."

Luciana pouts and crosses her arms.

"Very well," she mumbles. "But you'd better come back."
"Don't worry, I will," you reply.

And then to seal the promise, you give her a quick kiss.

That's assuming he did so willingly.

Notice arch never answered the question whether someone holding a sealed king could be slave collared? I think he avoided answering that question because that's why there's an Earth Elemental wrecking shit in the capitol right now.

I didn't think a slave collar would work on an elemental, but they may have other ways of trapping one to keep it from using its own natural ability of Earth.

"You mind coming with me?" you ask.

With that settled, you try and get a third member of this expedition party...

"Niklaus," you say, kneeling down and shaking his shoulders. "Come back, buddy."
"......hahahahahahahaha......"
"Niklaus!" you shake him violently. "C'mon, this ain't the time to be losing your shit!"

That's a lie, but your point remains.

"R... Reinhart...?" Niklaus adjusts his glasses and looks at you. "...oh, that's right..."
"C'mon," you say. "I'm heading in there and I need you with me."
"...into there...?" Niklaus looks at the rampaging Elemental Spirit and starts laughing again. "...y ...yes, very well," he nods. "Let's go."

After giving Luciana one last kiss goodbye, you race into the city limits along with your chosen party.

>what's the plan here?

Having gone all-in on the plot to kidnap Luciana by invading Granache, the failure of Leopold to bring her back (evident by them receiving Vincent instead) caused them to accelerate their plans.
They released all their elementals to cause havoc in order to cover the nobility's escape.

We obviously can't assume it in character but it seems pretty clear that its him.

Niklaus, this is no time for being cagey. C'mon; what's so funny? Having to stifle your giggles whenever you catch an eyeful of elemental out the corner of your eye isn't exactly conducive to a successful infiltration.

Try and stay out of sight of the elemental. We're little, and we've no good reason to expect that it will either know or care that we're not Ancellottans. Occasional contact with enemy soldiers is tolerable, but should be avoided where possible.

Mostly, people aren't going to pay us any mind at a time like this. Stay moving. Standing still is far more suspicious than running around like crazy given what's going on.

"Let's take higher ground," you say to the others. "We'll be able to move faster."
"But you don't know any flight spells, right?" Monique asks.
"Don't need 'em," you reply.

Glancing to your side, you do a running leap towards the nearest wall of the alley that the three of you are standing in, bouncing from one side to another until you've finally made it to the rooftop. IT's not long before the other two fly up top to join you, and then Niklaus once again leads the way.

Running from rooftop to rooftop, you find ourselves dodging several deflected fireballs and similar magical projectiles that smash into the buildings below you. But still, you continue on unabated.

"We're getting awfully close to that Spirit..." Monique in an uneasy tone of voice as he looks up.

Yes... its sheer height is fully apparent from this close up, as well as the heat from the fireballs that continue to crash against it. With another hollow roar, it lifts an arm into the air (fortunately, it's the one furthest away from the three of you) and slams it down into a crowd of fleeing soldiers. At first, you're not sure if you saw it right since you didn't feel any kind of shockwaves from the impact...

...but then everything rocks violently back and forth and a gigantic crater lowers into the ground under the creature's fist.

"Dear God..." Monique gasps as he looks at the scene of destruction that the gigantic stone titan's latest attack wrought. "Niklaus, do you have a clear bead on where Sir Vincent is yet?"
"........." Niklaus comes to a stop.
"What's wrong?" you ask.
"......yes..." Niklaus says, taking off his glasses. "I know exactly where Sir Vincent is.

And then he points up.

>>38327984
The guy used to punch bears for a living, before he even learned magic. I don't think getting rid of a collar was ever a problem for him.
>>
In retrospect, Sylvie and her sisters having an Earth element despite their mother being part of the line of Sivarios and being born in Sivarios' homeland is a pretty gigantic clue.

You don't override the most potent influences for elemental alignment (historical lineage, primarily matrilineal transmission of element, element of your country of origin) without a pretty serious mitigating factor, and actually being an elemental is about as mitigating as it can get.

Random stuff before I get to the questions...

Vincent was always an Elemental Spirit. I dropped hints here and there, but nobody really took them seriously though there were a few folks who guessed correctly, I do admit.

Sylvie's magical reserves are so stupidly high because of her direct lineage.

Early on, he made comments about "Coming up with incantations so that Sylvie could use his spells" and the like, this was a problem for him because he normally doesn't NEED to use incantations at all.

His opposition to Sylvie participating in Niklaus's experiments was because the crystals feed off of magical energy and Vincent happens to literally be MADE of the stuff.

He read a few of the books in that Old Kings series and got super depressed because that could have easily been him. He likes PRosegana's story because it's the one that he could relate to the most, as well as it having a more or less happy ending.

His meeting innawoods with Thierri and Raoul purposefully reflected that of Valikarias and Prosegana's.

Vincent could speak people talk because of his natural ability to understand languages.

Thierri taught him magic because he naturally had no need to do so on his own. He had no name prior to meeting them and never got a chance to give one to himself because he got named before he could.

I said that he was younger than his wife, and he was maybe one or two actual years old when he ran into Thierri and Raoul.

Vincent had no knowledge of sexual stuffs because he's not even really a human. He has no instincts towards that end, and continues to be completely unknowing of anything to that nature unless it's spelled out to him.

Thierri and Adrien weren't worried about him getting captured because they knew that he could literally walk back home without incident if he so desired. Vincent is stupidly hard to kill.

>We know that children if contractors come out as Devil Children; if this was something that was previously true rather than ascension, what's the big difference that keeps Sylvie and co (and I guess every Granache royal, due to being descended from Sivarios) from having that condition?
An Elemental Spirit that mimics a human is biologically human. A Contractor is bioligically something else, and technically the same thing as a Devil Child.

>>38327949

They have naturally huge magical reserves, and are more likely to Ascend than anyone else in this Quest other than Ariane and Celestino.

>>38327984
>Why didn't the collar work on Vincent? Does it not affect elementals or if he just became one was the transformation enough to destroy it and let him wreck shit?
Slave collars have no effect on an Elemental Spirit beyond not allowing them to Invoke spells. Nothing can stop the Conceptualization of Script, but "objects" can't cast magic outright.
As a being that's literally made of Earth-aligned magical energy, Vincent has no need to cast magic the standard way.

>>38327996

Our hand was partly forced by not being given options after the Reinbowl.

As has been mentioned, most of us presumed that continuing the magic lessons and saying we wanted to stay friends etc. meant we wouldn't neglect her during the timeskip, you were the one who decided otherwise and made us act like shits through that period. Since then we've always been picking between more pressing options rather than getting the time for slice-of-life choices to spend time with her.

Yup.

>I'm not sure what I think about Angelique now. Apparently she abducted an underage primordial earth entity and procreated with him three times even though he doesn't understand what sex is?
She didn't abduct him, he was brought home by Thierri and then she fell for him on the spot because she likes big huge rough burly manly men. They got married because he reciprocates her feelings.

And there is no "growing up" for Elemental Spirits. Their biological age is whatever they want it to be. Vinvent simply matched Thierri's age and that's why he seems as old as he does.
In contrast, Alsiradna is millions of years old yet defaults to a shota most of the time when he's in human form.

>And sometimes beats him?
He told her to hit him if she gets mad at him. It doesn't bother him because she's physically incapable of hurting him in any way.

Yep, we didn't treat Sylvie like shit, Arch treated her like shit for us.

And then he dares to lay that shit at our feet...
>>
>>38328311
Luci Route Express was mainly us, though I'd argue it's somewhat in character since Reinhold is an emotional trainwreck. Arch wanted Nico Route.

The fact that we kept saying "we should really spend some time with Sylvie" and arch responded "yeah you've been shitty friends" but not actually then giving the option to fucking talk to her is not our fault though. The few occasions where it would have been possible to speak with her in thread, there's always been something like Karel going through a breakdown or CATENO CRISIS ALERT REVENGE FOR YOUR SISTER, and blowing that shit off right then would have been even more unconscionable.
>>

>>
>>38328367
No, Nico got with Melanie the morning following the routelock.

And only because she ranted about Monique's knighthood ceremony ruining her confession in front of Melanie.
>>
>>38328363
Exactly, we did everything we could to be friends with Sylvie and Arch steered us away from it at every opportunity, then he went and treated her like shit during the timeskip when we said not to. We didn't treat her like shit, he did.
>>
>>38328332
While she doesn't know the whole story, Sylvie knows Reinhold is emotionally damaged, so that stuff while extremely painful for her should at least be understandable. Us being shitty friends seems to be a result of unseen action during timeskip etc, which seems kind of off given we voted to stay friendly with her and make sure we spent time with her. I'm a Sylviefag, so I'm still sad we didn't wind up with her, but I don't think we ever voted to be absolute shits to her either. /tg/ fucked up around the Reinbowl as was inevitable due to deciding individual actions via committee, but some of the criticism about our actions isn't really fair.
>>
>>38328258

Valerie and Racquel also don't much care for him.

>>38328399
>Exactly, we did everything we could to be friends with Sylvie and Arch steered us away from it at every opportunity, then he went and treated her like shit during the timeskip when we said not to. We didn't treat her like shit, he did.
I gave several open options after the return to Granache, you could have easily voted to go find Sylvie and do stuff with her. You didn't.

>>
>>38328416
>You didn't.
Except I did, many a time...
>>
>>38328390
..So Nico/Melon was already set in stone before we routelocked, which was the point I was making.

We pushed Nico into being with Melon, which took her off the route options list by that point in the narrative.

In other words, Nico was no longer a viable romance option prior to the Luci routelock.

Therefore it's entire plausible that Luci was Arch's 'second choice' after Nico.
>>
>>38328433
What about the fact that Sylvie was in love with Rein at the time?

None of it was set in stone.
>>

What about it? Nico had fancied Rein as well, but we kept nudging her towards Melon. For that matter, we also told Nico that we weren't ready for or looking for a relationship either, not just Sylvie.
>>
>>38328433
>..So Nico/Melon was already set in stone before we routelocked, which was the point I was making.
Immediately before the routelock, only Melanie was taken out of the running because you guys expressed like zero interest in her by that point.

>We pushed Nico into being with Melon, which took her off the route options list by that point in the narrative.
>In other words, Nico was no longer a viable romance option prior to the Luci routelock.
Nicolette was in the running until the very end, but you guys literally friendzoned her.
I tried to force some more interest in her and I REALLY shouldn't have but it amounted to nothing in the end.

I don't think you were actually trying to force us to pick Luciana, but what I DO think is that the compulsion to flesh out Luciana as a character (in order to catch her up compared to the rest of the cast where we had the previous 50 threads of development to fall back on) gave the impression that we were more interested in Luciana than other characters, which compounded upon itself.

I really do like Luciana, but I both didn't vote for her and understand why some people are frustrated that others did.

Mostly I just think that this whole topic is a pain to discuss, and it doesn't help that that twice in the past ~10 threads people have mentioned being interested in some Sylvie-related things and the response has been borderline bait like
>Yes, but said happiness will have nothing to do with you. because you treated her so horribly

I get that it's an awkward situation, but it goes both ways. After threads of fallout over Sylvie taking our vacillation personally, it's hard to get back in the saddle, no matter how often you hear the horse is calm again.

There was some more magic lesson stuff I remember being really pleasant since it was good to have the two actually acting like they're friends again, but part of why we kept seeing Sylvie all the time back in the day was because Sylvie was around all the time. We didn't always go looking, and when the norm becomes Sylvie keeping artificial distance because we're likely to be around Luciana more often now and she doesn't want to end up punching her smug face, it comes across as her not being as invested either.

>>38328604
>I'll try and give her some screentime.

>>
>>38328604
It's pretty understandable to take an attack on your work personally.

>>
>>38328692
You know, our greatest failure with Sylvie was probably our not deciding to hook her and Reya up. Rana would have taken Reya's place with Raquel pretty seemlessly, so it might even have worked out.
>>
>>38328716
I really wanted to do this but couldn't see a way since Sylvie was clearly heartbroken.
>>
>>38328724
Also Reya said Slyvie isn't his type
>>
>>38328692
>and when the norm becomes Sylvie keeping artificial distance because we're likely to be around Luciana more often now and she doesn't want to end up punching her smug face, it comes across as her not being as invested either.
Thing is, that's her character. Sylvie's still sore about getting NTRed and honestly wants nothing to do with Luciana.
The same thing happened back when you pulled the "I'm not ready for a relationship yet" card. Reinhold said that to Sylvie and her immediate response was "oh no I'm coming on too strong I better back off and give him some space so he doesn't hate me." In contrast, Luciana's internal response was "whoops I'm coming on too strong I better try and ease into it and make him make the first move instead."

That wasn't me pushing anything along, it was just me keeping true to the way that those specific characters would react in that situation. And more than anything else in the story, that's something that I'm pretty hardline about.
And my own plans have been screwed up more than once because of this.

And hell, Sylvie in particular is the outright NICEST of all of the girls, Melanie included. She's the least likely to act selfishly or vindictive or any of that aside from when Luciana declared war on her. That's a major reason why I didn't get the outright venom that was spewed about her back then.

In contrast, Luciana's the most spiteful and vindictive of all the girls.
>>
>>38328674
Pretty sure Reya's way of handling things is the best, what with being amiable but also fairly subdued.

That said, I can't envision an approach like that having cracked Marianne's shell in any reasonable timeframe, so I'm kind of glad for the relentlessly-upbeat element of the Reinhold's character even though it also bothered the hell out of her at times.
>>
>>38328742
>tfw his feelings for Reinhold will never be requited

>That's a major reason why I didn't get the outright venom that was spewed about her back then.
I think a part of the problem was that "nicest" came across as "slightly creepy and probably hinting at being batfuck yandere/insane" especially after the biting thing.

Might have been bad delivery, might have been /tg/ having some girl issues. Probably a bit of both IMO.

>Being raised by someone who basically had to figure out how to be human on the fly and the courtly manners lady probably contributed.

Pretty much. There's a lot of Vincent's influence in the way that she does things and her personal preferences.
One example is the jewelry thing. "Who cares about that stuff, all it is is shiny rocks."
Sylvie's a girly girl with girl sensibilities thanks to her mother, but her interests are much less so thanks to her father.
>>
>>38328906
It's actually worse like that, where i'm standing. Doing that hard enough to draw blood has serious self-mutilation undertones.
>>
>>38328891
>coming from a real-world context with no magic healing sparkles)
I didn't really have this problem, but that might be because I have been playing roleplaying games for many years. I try to think and react as the character rather then as myself. Which is why I didn't have a problem with the biting.
>>
>>38328942
Which is why that scene almost made me reconsider Sylvie as possible waifu material. All I could think of was that I wouldn't have the guts to do that.
>>
>>38328906
Still probably would have been better if she'd mentioned something like "this is how dad taught me" or something. Reframe the context as "my family is crazy I guess?" as opposed to "I don't feel like getting up to borrow a knife." Maybe that's too subtle a distinction for some people, I wouldn't know since the biting thing didn't disturb me that much given the context of the magic lesson and stuff.
>>
>>38328959
She was teaching healing magic. It was going to be better in minutes, max.

Fun fact, though, if you can get over the mental blocks against biting other human beings, biting off people's fingers is approximately as difficult as eating raw carrot.
>>
>>38328942
I get the feeling that most people who learn healing magic in this setting probably practice their spells on themselves...
>>
>>38328959
>Doing that hard enough to draw blood has serious self-mutilation undertones.
I just don't see it, It was a demonstration for a healing spell, it was pretty much a medial lesson

It's no worse than people cutting their hand to swear a blood oath.
>>
>>38328983
Again, cultural context. It's the biting itself that is considered disgusting; not the fact that they needed an injury to heal.

If, for example, she'd used a knife to give herself a small cut instead? That would have been literally zero problem.
>>
Don't forget the influence Niklaus may have on Sylvie.
>>
>>38329036
Isn't Niklaus destined to be forever alone?
>>
>>38329029
Now see in my culture cutting yourself open with a knife is completely nuts.

I would have flipped out if she went with that.

But a bit of a nibble on the hand? No problem.
>>
>>38328954
>One example is the jewelry thing. "Who cares about that stuff, all it is is shiny rocks."
One would expect someone who might accurately be described as half rock would have a finer appreciation for minerals.
>>
>>38328216
After being released, Setsuranka is still the sword in the relationship.
>>
>>38329054
>One would expect someone who might accurately be described as half rock would have a finer appreciation for minerals.
Or they might just see them as boring mundane things and wonder people like carrying them around on display.
>>
>>38329054
You're presumably made of flesh, do you collect organs?
>>
>>38329050
Biting yourself hard enough to draw blood isn't considered weird or disturbing? I'm afraid that is very difficult for me to understand.

I suppose this is the problem with having to write for an international, multicultural audience without any sort of local editor. Some things that horrify some are nothing to others and viceversus.
>>
>>38329096
>Biting yourself hard enough to draw blood isn't considered weird or disturbing? I'm afraid that is very difficult for me to understand.

He's probably from Transylvania.
>>
>>38329079
>Flipping out over a little bit of self mutilation
>Not collecting organs

You people are really squeamish, aren't you?
>>
>>38329050
Interesting. So you guys don't focus on the potential bacterial infections from mouth fauna or the significantly more personal nature of attacking yourself with your own body? What a diverse world we live in!
>>
>>38329045
At this point I think it's most likely that he creates his own waifu

'Morning Snapple.
>>
>>38329112
Ever chew your nails? I did for a while. Stopped since, but I used to break the skin every so often. Not a big deal.

But if I started cutting myself open with a knife, you can bet there'd be comments.
>>
>>38329127
Tina?
>>
>>38329139
Nail biters are still seen as neurotic and gross, they just don't look like they're fantasizing about killing themselves.
>>
>>38329139
See, where I come from, if you bite your nails in public, people react with strong disgust. It is like if you started licking your feet in the middle of the street.
>>
>>38329170
>licking your feet in the middle of the street.

1. You come from a very flexible place.
2. I don't think it's the location that's the problem with feet licking...
>>
>>38329170
I think if someone started licking there own feet in the middle of the street, disgust wouldn't even be in the top 5 of my emotions.
>>
>>38329188
>1. You come from a very flexible place.
Not that anon, but I can lick my feet. I thought everyone could.

>>38329189
I am trying to use of an equivalent that describes the specific emotions caused by thigns like nail biting, even if that example is a bit unrealistic. I suppose it is not working effectively.
>>
>>38329200
You'd be surprised by the number of people who never tried it, weirdo.
>>
>>38329200
Nope, not everyone can do that.
Jesus christ, a guy on 4chan just causes me to try and lick my feet
>>
>>38329211
Most people tried to stretch their feet up towards their head just to see how far they could go. Licking is easily ruled out or not based on that data.

You hurt my feelings.

I cannot imagine that there are many people in this thread that didn't try it in the last 5 minute.
I can do it but it's hard enough that I can imagine someone not being able to do it
>>

Easier than autofellatio, harder than touching your toes without bending your knees, amirite?

I used bite my nails, my toe nails.

Well Vincent is an elemental, cool. I wonder if the reason he hates bears is because one shat on him(in the woods) while he was coming into sentience.
>>
>>38329286
Hey we have been over that subject. We are talking about licking your own foot now.
>>
>>38329286
archelon probably has a bias against bears, Colbert-style.
>>
>>38329305
We're weird
>>
>>38329305
Which of the PGQ cast do you think could do it?

Nicolette strikes me as flexible enough.

>>38329317
>We're weird
You take that back this instant!
>>
>>38329305
And? I can do it, but it requires work. Sylvie biting herself, really didn't weird me out much, when I read the archive.

>>38329307
Yeah probably, but you gotta admit getting dumped on just as start looking at the world would make you pretty pissed at the offender.

>>38329331
Inaba obviously, Rana, Karel cause she can do parkour and need to be flexible for her fighting style, Reinhold maybe.
>>
>>38329331
I'd guess Nico, Rana and maybe Karel.

You are weird and so is your waifu.

I think sylvie would have problems because her large personalities would get in the way.
Rana would have the same problem, if she couldn't transform in a dragon.
Also I think Vincent can't and the reason he hates bears is because they can.
>>
>>38328604
>about how Sylvie a shit and is boring and is creepy potential yandere and assorted other bullshit.
Yeah, that shit is infuriating and obnoxious as are the accusations of railroading, but that's a handful of anons being assholes, not Rein.

I also seem to recall that several of the more open decisions where she was present were at points like after the picnic, where Karel and peripheral machinations obviously takes priority, or scenes where we were with Luciana and seeing Sylvie would either involve blowing off your girlfriend to hang out with her erstwhile rival, or dragging Luci over to see Sylvie - neither of which would be remotely acceptable behavior unless you're trying to be a sociopath.
>>
>>38329369
>I think Vincent can't and the reason he hates bears is because they can
Holy shit.

You guys, the mystery is solved!
>>
>>38329369
Rana probably has some measure or draconic flexibility even in human form, much like her appetite. She could probably do it(it'd take work)
>>
>>38329403
So Nico and Rana are flexible?
Now I want their routes even more
>>
>>38329424
Karel is too, remember flexibility and agility are a large part of her fighting style.
>>
>>38329424
>Bad End of the ReinxNicoxMelonxRana route is when they all get entangled together during an experimental session and have to ask Gregory to help them
>>
>>38329435
Worse Arianne, she teases them to death.
>>
>>38329170
Not sure that would provoke particularly strong disgust unless they had really bad feet. I'd be more confused than anything, it'd be like seeing someone spontaneously start moonwalking and yodeling in the street. Too bizarre to be disgusting.

Where the fuck are you from that nailbiting and feet cause such visceral reactions?
>>
>>38329445
I would rather she join.
Then die from Gregs.
>>
>>38329429
This gives my so many ideas

>>38329435
Rein:"I don't even know who I'm inside!"
>>
>>38329465
Rana covering her face is embarrassment while Nico runs to find the dragon-sized speculum so they can retrieve Melanie "It's not so bad, you don't notice the fishy smell after a few minutes"
>>
>>38329465
Rein could probably lick his foot too, considering his good agility.(he can parkour as well as if not better than Karel.)

Given Spinelle has more kinks than a snake in a room full of rocking chairs, he might have had to do it too.
>>
>>38329504
Spinelle isn't kinky, she'd just put up with anything.

Well unless you consider paedophilia kinky.
>>
Just imagine; every time Vincent punched somebody without killing them, he likely thought something along the lines of "do not kill the squishy, do NOT kill the squishy"
>>
>>38329543
Well, to be fair, that's something all big guys have to deal with, not exclusive to earth elementals.

Worrying that you might cause someone serious lasting harm if you so much as give them a companionable tap is a real motivator for becoming a gentle giant.
