Your name is Michael Dunkin, and you work for the Inquisition. Previously you were a sergeant in the 291st Cadian Shock Troopers, but now you find yourself in the company of Inquisitor Christina Massey, of the Ordos Xenos. Following your recruitment into her ranks you took to your new occupation well, going beyond the call of just a standard bodyguard. Despite your initial suspicions about Inquisitional life you’ve met many interesting but welcoming characters in the Inquisitors company. However, with it came the drama you heard of. And then some.

On the Hive World Sidonas you’ve joined your first Inquisitional investigation. Hearing word of Xeno technology ending up in the hands of gangers, the situation quickly becomes more complicated than that. Hidden beneath the planets fairly well off appearance Tau sympathizers and other traitors of mankind dwell within the shadows. Outright rebels and Guard deserters work together to various goals yet unidentified, but one objective is clear: the assassination of the sector’s Lord General. Though you do not know the man personally, you know his reputation enough to understand their actions to some degree. Privately, of course.

This only covers the professional side of things, however. Alongside dealing with these outwards threats you’ve also dragged yourself into the Inquisitor’s personal troubles. Though you’ve not met many Inquisitors, or any besides her, you think her one of the more level headed. However, recently you’ve been made aware that the girl previously plaguing your dreams is not just a figment of your imagination. It’s the Inquisitor’s half-Eldar daughter, Naomi. Still uncertain of her origins and the reason or person behind her attempted kidnapping, the Inquisitor is struggling to keep it together. When you offer her a moment of comfort, it goes a bit farther than that. Not that either of you complained.

____________________________

A knock at the door stirs you from your sleep, and a quick glance at the clock makes your brow furrow. No one in their right mind would be awake at this hour unless something was wrong. Despite a pleasant dinner with Christina and Naomi, who proved to be an aspiring cook herself, your stomach sinks as you clamber to your feet.

Briefly rubbing the sleep from your eyes, you open the door to find Naomi standing in the hall. Though now dressed for bed in a conservative set of pink pajamas, she seems no worse for wear than the last time you saw her.

When she sees you she offers an apologetic smile, though it seems a bit forced.

“Hey,” She offers quietly. “Can we talk? We need to talk.”

"Do you have ANY idea what time it is?" You groggily ask.

Before she can offer a reply you step aside, and with reservations she does so. Closing the door behind her, you wait for her to continue as she takes a seat at the foot of her bed. Idly smoothing the sheets next to her, she continues to avoid your gaze as she inspects the room.

"So...um...how's it going?" She asks, attempting to sound casual.

Your usual sensitivity dulled by still-remaining fatigue, you stare at her blankly for several long seconds. Catching onto the silence, Naomi looks up to meet your gaze and squirms uncomfortably.

"Yeah," She mutters. "Somebody woke me up this late, I'd be a bit of a grump too."

"You said we needed to talk," You remind her, crossing your arms. "I'm listening."

Sighing, Naomi folds her hands in her laps as she appears to struggle with a response. After a few moments she seems to find an answer.

"Before we met in person we'd met before, in the courtyard," She paused. "In my head."

"And in mine," You agreed.

"I remember the first time you appeared, and every time you showed up in the courtyard. Before or after that, did you ever have any...trouble? Restless sleep? Inability to do so? Vivid dreaming? Anything like that?"

At that your heart seizes, thinking back to that particularly unpleasant business. It's something you'd be fine forgetting or ignoring. Or better yet, drowning in sacra. However, it seems to be the subject Naomi came with and she waits patiently for an answer from you. You briefly debate lying to her, less your psyche hear you and return once more.

>"You could say I had...trouble."
>"Can't rightly say I did. Why?"
>"Vivid isn't quite the wording I'd use. Terrifying works."

It's a struggle of your own to admit it, but you're not a liar when you can help it. All at once, fatigue seems to hit you again. A ragged sigh escapes you and your shoulders slump a fraction of an inch.

"You could say I had...trouble," You admit. "It got rough, at times."

Although you answered truthfully Naomi's reaction is one of horror and disgust, though not at you. Shutting her eyes, she doubles over and grabs at her hair.

"Stupid, stupid, STUPID girl," She mutters.

"Naomi?" You ask, worry overtaking any other emotion as you take a step forward. "What the ma-oof!"

You're almost tackled to the ground as she stands all at once from the bed and embraces you. Instead taking a staggered step back, you can only look down in confusion as she begins to cry.

"I'm so, so, SO sorry..." She says, voice muffled against your chest.

Although you're still worried, a worrying sense of realization begins to creep in.

Despite any thoughts you may have there's currently a woman crying on you. Though they may not be in the best order, you have your priorities straight.

"Hey, hey, it's okay," You assure her, wrapping your arms around her. "It's alright."

You give her time, heart growing heavier with each sob. However, with constant assurances from you she soon manages to calm herself. Sniffling, she weakly pushes herself away as she manages to gather herself.

"Better?" You ask.

She gives you an embarrassed smile, nodding. Taking her gently by the arm, you sit her back down and remain next to her.

"Take your time, and start from the beginning," You suggest, not unkindly. "What did you do?"

Although calmed, she's less than thrilled to continue. Pulling her legs to her chest, she wraps her arms around them and closes her eyes, though now in a much more calm state. When she opens them again she turns to look at you.

"Have you ever been in a library?" She asks.

"A few times," You nod. "Why?"

"Have you ever been in one that's not been well looked after?"

"Does on fire count?"

Smiling at that, she nods.

"Then yes."

"Well, the inside of my head isn't on fire or anything," She explains. "It's just a bit...cluttered. A big library, full of books about anything and everything. I tend to play around with different thoughts, memories, put things in the wrong place or leave them laying around. Sometimes I forget what's imagination and what's reality, but that was mainly when I was younger. At least, that's what I thought."

Her expression softens.

"If I'm being honest, I still don't know everything. But I know enough to tell you. To put it in a sentence, I got you mixed up with one of my stories."

+1 internet to This fine gentleman
>>
>>38378046

"Your stories?" You ask, confused. "I'm in a book?"

“Sort of,” Naomi nods. “I mixed the mental image of you and a character I'd read about once.”

“How'd you manage that?”

“It was...easier than you think. You two are a lot alike, in certain ways. He was a soldier, like you, but a knight on a Feudal World rather than a guardsman. His armor was green, but that wasn't enough to mix you up. He was kind, and brave, and unafraid of anything when it came to protecting those he cared about. He served in his King's army with his companions, fought in his wars and the hardship that came with it.”

“I...don't see how that means anything speciel,” You admit, lost.

“When we first met I thought you were a figment of my imagination,” Naomi admitted. “I tend to...barrow things from books I read to make characters in my head to keep me company. So when you appeared, I thought I'd turned the knight into a modern soldier. I...I thought your memories were part of a story. A novel. When I found them, I flipped through them like I always did, no reason to see anything wrong.”

Shuffling uncomfortably, she looks away briefly before forcing herself to meet your gaze once more. Her eyes are watery, but she refuses to let it overflow. When she speaks again, her voice is strained.

“I strung your memories along a wall like it was nothing. All your emotions, thoughts, pains, and I twirled it all around my finger like it was nothing while you sat up some nights screaming.”

You'd never told anyone, not even Christina that much, but by your expression she seems to prove her own suspicion.

(Cont.)
>>
>>38378071

“I didn't know,” She says, voice breaking. “I-I didn't know I was torturing you. Tormenting you. I...I...”

At that she seems to have reached her limit, on the verge of breaking down again as she buries her face in her knees. Her body trembles, though you feel like it's because of more than just holding back tears. You sit back, still trying to process everything she's said. It makes sense you guess, not exactly an expert on Eldar. But you have no idea where to go from here, with Naomi.

>”There was no way you could have known. This isn't your fault.”

You move closer and wrap an arm around her, and with hesitation she leans against you. Sniffling but keeping her composure otherwise, Naomi remains silent.

"There was no way you could have known what you were doing," You tell her. "I thought you were just in my head too, so I can't blame you for it. So don't try and find blame where there isn't any. This isn't your fault, Naomi."

Wordlessly she nodded, and as a thought strikes you you smile.

"Look on the bright side," You say. "You know me better than I do. Tell me about me sometime and we'll both know."

"I think that's the least I could do," She agrees. "But...there's more."

"Oh boy," You chuckle.

"This is good news," Naomi assures you, pushing away to look at you again. "Well, maybe. If you accept."

"What's that?" You ask.

"I can...if you want...do more than just tell you," She says. "I can show you your old life. Since I know you're real, and we're in the same room, I can actually mess with your head and mean to. I-If you want."

"Makes sense," She nods. "Well, if you ever want to try I'm all ears."

You stare for several seconds, brow slowly raising. After a moment she catches on and lets out a surprised giggle.

"Heresy only gets better with a touch of irony," She says, brushing a hand over the item in question. "And... thanks for not being angry."

"I'm under orders to look after you," You explain. "Plus... that's not how I do things."

"So," You say, trying to make conversation. "How are you finding it here?"

"It's...weird," Naomi admits. "I remember bits and pieces from when I was little. Mainly faces, like Captain Delmar and Uncle Vinny, but the halls too. The crew are nice. And I can walk around a lot more than at the Villa."

"You didn't there?"

"It was nice. Amazing, even. But -you- try spending the majority of your life in the same few hundred feet and try to be a good sport about it."

She hides it well, but you've dealt with enough of it to know a bit of bitterness when you hear it hidden in the humor. Back to her old self, Naomi stands and you both make toward the door.

"Give me a few days to prepare," You tell her. "The only training I've received for Psykers is how to resist their affects, so I might have old...habits."

"Like I said, I'm ready when you are," She nods.

"And I'll tell you again, don't beat yourself up about what happened," You suggest, opening the door. "I've had trouble long before you showed up. War's hell. Having someone take a look inside will probably help."

"Probably," Naomi echoes, only partially joking about it.

"One last thing, before you go. If you ever have anything you want to talk about, I'm all ears."

At that Naomi rolls her eyes, though her smile is genuine.

"Mom was right," She sighs, stepping out into the hall. "You really are quite the character."

"I'll take that as a compliment," You chuckle. "Goodnight, Naomi."

"Goodnight."

Closing the door, you make your way back over to bed and unceremoniously fall face first onto it and release a sigh. After a few moments, you call out.

"You can come out now."

"Apologies, sir," Jeeves says, and when you raise up your head the servoskull butler appears from the little opening in the corner of the roof. "Didn't want to interrupt."

"Perfectly fine," You tell him, raising up to a sitting position. "I just hope she will be."

"Oh, don't worry on that account," Jeeves tuts, hovering near you. "She takes after her mother well, Emperor preserve us."

With that done, you return to sleep once more. As per the norm, it's neither informative nor haunting, instead just a scatter of images and muffled sounds, if anything at all.

In the morning you prepare for the day, dressing in time to see you've received a message from Christina, asking for your presence at her office when you were ready. A sense of nervousness overtakes you as you remember all that's happened, still uncertain just how to describe your current relationship with your boss. Standard doesn't quite cover it.

Of the many stressful situations you've been put in, this is one of the few not actively involving gunfire. You're not sure how to handle things, so you decide to not make things out to have changed. Going about your usual ritual of making breakfast.

A short time later you're on the way with a steaming tray of food in hand. As ever, the servants either ignore you or offer a passing greeting as you've grown to become part of the usual morning traffic.

With practiced ease you shift the tray to one hand and knock.

"Come in," Christina calls.

Opening the door with a careful, boot, you enter to find the Inquisitor at her usual place behind her desk. Seeing the tray, she rolls her eyes but offers no complaint.

>Greet the Inquisitor!

"Morning," You greet, closing the door behind you. "Have you eaten yet?"

"I think we both know the answer to that one," Christina answers, making room so you can set down the tray. "Delmar isn't a happy camper with you."

"Eh?" You ask as you sit. "What I do?"

"He and Mr. Noriega had a very... excited conversation when he found out his Arbite man had been so tragically killed by those mercenaries his own killed. He wanted your head, but Delmar managed to convince him against it. However, it appears they're going to have to quiet down for a time until things die down. Which means we'll be getting no further dirt on them until they get active again."

"We've been running pretty well so far, ma'am," You say. "A break, especially now, might do good."

At that her expression becomes clouded, however briefly.

"I suppose," She says, beginning with her meal.

Though you grow worried, you also remember the favor Markus and the Major owe you now for killing said Arbite. However, only a single man in Alpha knows the fact besides you. And you're not sure just how to handle said favor yet.

“We may still have an opportunity,” You say.

“Oh?”

“The reason the Arbite died was because Casus and I killed him. On the way to our objective, Markus told us he'd owe us if we did this for him, but wasn't too keen on saying why. So now we have a man on the inside who owes us.”

“I see,” Christina says, clearly intrigued and gears already turning. “We'll definitely be using this. Unless you already have something in mind.”

“Not as it stands, no. Just say the word and I'll tell him what we need.”

“Happy to hear it.”

It's not uncommon for the two of you to enjoy each others company in silence, too hungry for conversation. However, this time you use it to bide yourself time as you think over your words. Risking a glance at the Inquisitor, she appears to be doing the same.

Down to a cup of recaff, you finally work up your courage.

“Ma'am?” You ask, and when she looks up you continue. “I was curious if you'd thought any about...before...”

She catches on immediately, and offers a weary smile in response.

“A bit,” She admits, looking down at her own recaff. “On my list of things to do yesterday, you were not originally one of them.”

Flushing at her bluntness, you're taken off guard to say the least. This seems to have been on purpose, as her smile turns a shade coy. Resting her chin in her palm, she studies you curiously.

“Don't even try it, Lieutenant,” She teases. “You've been trying to get to the finer points of bodyguarding for a long time now, even if you weren't aware of the fact.”

Squirming, you want to offer a rebuttal but know it'll only be ignored or deflected.

“Well, now the deed is done,” She notes. “What do you have to say for yourself?”

(I approve of the debate to a degree, gents, but I do wish you all would give me the benefit of the doubt. I may list a short option, but that doesn't mean Michael's just going to blurt said option out like some daft wanker. Each option is just dictating the overall tone and outcome of the cut scene that follows, so try not to treat each option so simply. Remembering what happened a while back I cut voting after I initially saw the bickering, and sadly my suspicions were confirmed and it only got worse. Next time, do have a bit of faith in your GM's ability with the writefaggotry before arguing. You guys are too good for that.)

You think it over, still not entirely sure of things. You've had both casual and serious relationships before, but none of them lasted long, either from circumstance or your old flame meeting the fate many Guard do.

The best you can do is offer a shrug.

“To be honest, ma'am?” You ask. “I'm not entirely sure. I mean, I'm perfectly fine with whatever comes after this. We can keep as we are now and forget it happened, we can use each other as a way of reliving stress, or, if you want, we could make something of it.”

“You're very... aware, Lieutenant,” She notes, intrigued. “I admit I'm surprised at your flexibility in this situation.”

“As you know these aren't exactly the calmest times. We're all trying to deal with it, and we are, but as you said everyone needs something. I...wouldn't be against us looking after each others needs, and get away from it all for a time. You scratch my back, I scratch yours?”

“Sounds like a plan,” You smile, then raise a curious brow. “So...round two?”

“I approve of your energy,” She chuckles. “But business before pleasure. Some of the others will be here soon to discuss Naomi. I wanted you here early to explain a few more things. Namely her past, and why we're in this situation to begin with.”

“You said we've got time, and there's no going back now,” You note. “Let's hear it. All of it.”

“As you wish,” Christina nods, leaning back in her seat. “Then we'll start at the beginning. The Inquisitor that had trained was part of the Xenos Hybris faction, so I had seen my fair share of Xenos long before I became an Inquisitor in my own right. Among them was a contact, an Eldar Farseer that stomached humans long enough to be useful. I can't say we were friends, but I was one of the few she spoke more than a few words to.

“We had helped one another on occasion, though I rarely had a serious idea of what her plans were. However, she seemed to have a level head on her shoulders. So when she arrives one day, out of the blue and with a babe in hand, I was rightly surprised. She'd taken me to be a radical as well, and apparently having another Inquisitional tail behind her she had no one else to turn to.

“What she didn't know was that my old mentor had gotten himself and his entire retinue killed, having gone one step too far for his peers liking. And here she was, trying to give me the same fate and then some. Had she been trying to find asylum herself I would have refused her, but she was not looking for personal safety. It was the child she begged for me to save. She looked the part of a full Eldar, but her mother told me the father had been human. A soldier, apparently, who died seeing them off a world to brief safety.

“I was young. Young, and naive, and foolish. Some childish voice in my head told me that I had to take her in, to try and make a right in a galaxy filled with wrong. Looking back, maybe it had been the Farseer and one of her tricks. No matter how or why, I took the child in and wished her luck. I never heard from her again."

(Cont.)
>>
>>38386784

“So with that I did the only thing I could do. I raised her. By that time I'd acquired most of the men and women that make up my Inner Circle. Melodi, Delmar, Vincent, Leo, and Mikel. In their own ways they helped me how they could, the Captain most of all. None of the staff on this level know the truth, but they have plenty of theories. Naomi is Delmar's bastard, part of some backalley dealing, a hostage, and more. However, they're all loyal enough to him to keep their lips firmly sealed outside of pleasant company.

“Up until her fourth year she lived on the ship with me, but the chance of having to deal with fellow Inquisitors and other dangers made it impossible for her to remain. So I chose a small Hive World, hiding her in plain sight within a small but well to do Villa. I visited as often as I could, saw to her every need or want, but this galaxy is big. My visits grew farther apart, and each time I saw her she'd grown so much.”

Though she sounds wistful, nostalgic, there's a sadness to her tone. Regretful, even.

“Before I knew it she'd become a teen. Normal teenagers were difficult enough to deal with, but she was part Eldar and beginning to accidentally use her powers. To my dismay, I learned she posses as much psykic potential as her mother, if not more. However, much of it was undeveloped and if left that way and watched would prove no worry. She was taught a few things, mainly how to control and limit what power she had. However, as time went on and my rivals grew, I slowly began to allow her to learn how to use them more defensively."

(Cont.)
>>
>>38386814

“Most of my bodyguards never knew about her. At least not completely. A few questioned my visits to the same hiveworld, but few ever delved deeper. Only one ever made trouble of it, and he soon learned why that was a bad idea. Only two ever met her face to face, and one had been turned into a flying skull by the time they met. The other died some time after Jeeves.

“I tried my best to be a good mother, but when one is also an Inquisitor that becomes increasingly difficult. Now with her back back on the ship I have to go back to worrying about what might happen if we're ever attacked, or if someone shows up announced. Pity forced me to take her in, but now maternal instinct keeps my neck in a constant noose. One wrong move and I fall, and with me all my Inner Circle.”

Heaving a heavy sigh, she fixes you with a tired smile.

“Welcome to the Inner Circle, Lieutenant,” She said.

“Hope I enjoy my stay,” You joke.

“Well, that's the gist of it,” She says, folding her hands together. “Do you have any further questions?”

I want this shit, Do we protect the freak?

This would be good to know.

Why would they not?
>>
>>38387123
because she is xeno scum. If we protect her as is, its because we thought it was right, and since protecting a xeno is clearly heresy we get blammed. However, if were directly ordered to protect her, were just following orders of a superior, who clearly has better judgement than we do. This is why you should execute her of heresy and not me oh dear lord inquisitor.
>>
>>38386858
>This seems rather off topic, ma'am, but has she talked to you about reading books? Particularly a series about a feudal world soldier in green armor?
>>
>>38386858
Are there any dangers left over from her psychic potential? Like how in control are we talking here. and if so are there any warning signs?
>>
>>38387177
If word gets out that we've been ordered to protect a xeno, it draws the attention of more inquisitors. She'd throw us under the land raider, and rightly so. It'd be better if we don't ever have to protect her, just let her roam around in cordoned off areas of the ship.

Or, you know. Introduce her to our resident tech priest and let the fun times roll.

"Does my job as a bodyguard cover Naomi as well?" You ask.

"Yes," Christina nods, her expression stiffening. "In the event of my death and your survival, you're to see her to safety at any cost up to and including your own life. It's a lot to ask, but of all the things I ask for it's the only thing I do so without room for debate. She's all I have that's right and innocent in this galaxy. I won't lose her or let her fall into harms way."

"You can count on me, ma'am," You tell her. "Anyone that comes after either of you is gonna have to go through me first."

At that she smiles, but it holds no joy to it.

"I'm sad to say you're right," She says. "I only pray it never comes to that."

"You mentioned her psyker abilities... how are they now? Is she in control of them?" You ask.

"From what I was told by her trainer she only grew better with age. However, she is also a very emotional child, despite her insistence to say otherwise. If you're with her and the air grows cold, grow worried and calm her down. A human psyker is one thing, but a panicking Eldar is not a pretty sight. For anyone in the room at least. Luckily, from the last reports of her trainer she was still only just learning the more complicated uses, like flashbangs and healing."

She takes a sip of her cooling recaff, watching you over the brim.

"Unless there's something I'm unaware of, her powers are able but limited," She said, pausing.

If there was ever an opening, this would be it.

It's obvious Christina knows something, or wants to know something. It's no use trying to get around it, so with resignation you answer the silent question.

"I got a visitor last night," You say. "Or this morning,"

"Oh?"

"Naomi came by to talk. About the dreams."

Her interest is obvious as she straightens in her seat. You briefly explain all you two had spoken on about your nightmares and memories, and Christina takes it all in without a word. Usually nodding along and asking the usual question, her silence stands out.

"Has she mentioned anything about books recently?" You ask.

"She did," Christina says, realization clear on her face. "She'd come to me before, telling me she'd damaged one of the books in Delmar's library. She was clearly distraught over the fact, and I offered to help, but she only asked for how to handle it. I simply told her to be honest about the incident and to apologize, that the Captain rarely holds a grudge, especially not with her and on something so petty. Seems I need to have a talk with her."

"That's...not all."

"Go on."

You're only briefly into explaining her intentions for later when the Inquisitor jumps to her feet, hands pressed against the table as she leans over to glare at you.

"Absolutely not!" She snaps, and you're taken back by the abrupt change in demeanor. "She has no idea what kind of power she wields or what she could do to us or this entire ship," Her hands clench into fists. "Damn that girl!"

You've only seen her truly angry once, but this is already bordering on a repeat. However, you feel like Christina's going just a bit overboard. True psykers are timebombs waiting to happen, but you feel Naomi's more able with her powers than her mother thinks.

>"Don't you think you're overreacting just a little, ma'am? She's not a child."
>Keep your trap shut. Angry inquisitors are bad news.
>"What if she had you there to oversee things?"

>"Shes not a child anymore but, What if she had you there to oversee things?"
>>
>>38388313

"Well, what if she had you there to oversee things?" You ask. "You'd be able to ensure everything went to plan. Plus, a trip down memory lane might free up something about the Sympathizers."

Although clearly displeased by the notion, Christina refrains from immediately answering. Finally, she sighs and the angers begrudgingly leaves her.

"One hiccup and we're ending it then and there," She says. "And I'll be having a LONG conversation with her when we're done here."

As if on cue there's a knock on the door, and at the Inquisitor's answer the rest of her Inner Circle file in. Nodding in greeting to each in turn, you feel the tension in the room as the door shuts. Uncomfortable with the difference, you stand with the others and turn to form a half-circle around the Inquisitor's desk.

"So," Vincent says, crossing his arms. "When can I go get that fuckers head?"

"We don't know it was him," Christina answers with a sigh.

"Like hell it wasn't," The Commander snorts, looking to his side. "You agreed he's behind this mess. Tell her."

"I said he may have a part in it," Delmar answered patiently. "But it is as unlikely as it is likely."

As they continue to argue Melodi gently nudges you with her elbow.

"They're talking about Alex," She whispers. "Just in-case you didn't get the memo."

"I didn't," You say. "What's his beef with us?"

"Now's not the time for that story," the Tech Priest answers. "Just know Vincent isn't a fan."

"I can understand why," You mutter, having gained a less than spotless idea of the Inquisitor's reputation despite Christina's assurances.

"Now is not the time for us to go on the warpath," Leo speaks up, standing in front of the Commander to block further argument. At half Vincent's size, the Savant it a sight to see. "Naomi was nearly lost to us due to rash action. I will not allow it to endanger us again."

For a brief moment, a look of guilt passes Christina's expression.

"Leo's right," You speak up, getting everyone's attention. "Any idea is a mistake if we rush into it. None of the mercenaries made it out alive, so we have time to think over our options. Let's use it, with clear minds and level heads."

"Agreed," Mikel nodded.

"What about the mercs?" Vincent asks, unhappy but calmer. "What do we know about them?"

"Little, as it stands," Leo answers. "We're doing our best to gain what information we can, but they are a fairly small and unimpressive group, judging by our initial findings."

"Makes sense," Melodi says. "To avoid attention, at least. Not so much on actually getting the job done."

"It would explain why they were cocky enough to double-cross their boss," Vincent nods.

"A poor decision," Delmar says. "For them."

"I find it difficult to believe Felix has something to do with this, but we will be looking into him," Christina admits. "I may pay him a visit of my own soon."

"I'll assemble the Misfits," Vincent nods.

"I said visit, not openly board and apprehend," Christina answers dryly. "It would also draw attention. Michael will accompany me, as always, and with hope nothing will come of it."

At the use of your actual name Vincent and Mikel give you the briefest of looks, but you try not to pay it any mind. Christina either doesn't seem to notice or is in full Inquisitor mode.

"You can count on me, ma'am," You tell her.

"Glad to hear it,” She smiles. “Delmar, Vincent, we need to talk further on things. The rest of you are dismissed.”

Bidding the Inquisitor farewell, you and the others file out and begin to part ways. However, with the Inquisitor busy you find yourself free. You could easily tag along with one or the others, or try and find someone or something by simply choosing a path and walking.

You hoof it and catch up to the set of red robes rounding the corner.

"Hey," You say as you fall into place next to her.

"Hey yourself," Melodi answers. "What's up?"

"Well, I got kicked out of the Inquisitor's room, so now I'm looking for trouble to get into. Thought you might be interested."

"Always up for trouble. What did you have in mind?"

"Well, we've got a whole ship to be nosy in," You note. "You probably know it better than I do. I'll let you lead on."

"Hmmm," Melodi pauses, scratching her chin. Then, all at once, her face lights up. "I've got it. You up for some heavy lifting?"

"Beats standing around all day."

"Perfect!"

With that you both set off, soon coming to an elevator you've not used before in a section of the Officers Quarters you've not frequented.

"So, how are the guns?" You ask as you wait for the elevator.

"The Tau stuff? Most are junk by now. Got a bit overzealous with a powerbuffer. At least... one is still in more or less working order though. Delmar asked for a keepsake."

"Paying you?"

"Of course."

In short order the elevator arrives and you both step through.

"So, where are we going?" You ask.

"Into the darker parts of the Antebellum," Melodi answers. "You ever lose something and it ends up somewhere crazy? I did that, so now I need a big strong man to protect me."

"Scared?"

"Nah. You DO have a gun, right?"

"Wait, what?"

As a hand comes to rest on the holster of your laspistol the elevator doors close and you descend. As you see the Tech Priests mischievous grin, so does your stomach.

It's good to be back! I noticed there was a lot more traffic today than usual. With all the good and bad that comes with a larger voting pool. I liked it overall, though, and hope what I said sticks.

Fairly sure next Saturday is go. As always, the time for questions and such is now.

I do believe ssues 11-21 and 1-10 were the last I remember receiving, being about Frank going after a sorcerer and similarly fun and happy things.

Good to see you again, mate. I'm too lazy to find good comics myself.
