These are the closing days of the 41st millennium, and they are dark days indeed.

Abbadon's 13th Black Crusade has struck a major blow against the fortress world of Cadia, the stronghold barring the heretics and warp-spawn of the Eye of Terror from the rest of the galaxy; the Necrons continue to reawaken across the galaxy, spreading death and fear wherever they appear; the Tyranid Hive Fleets are slowly, but surely, closing in on Holy Terra; the Tau Empire continues to expand, propelled onwards by the pursuit of their 'Greater Good'; the Orks have begun to band together in preparation for a united, galaxy-wide WAAGH!; and the Eldar grow more and more desperate as their numbers dwindle and their empire crumbles.

For more than a hundred centuries, the God-Emperor has sat, unmoving, upon the Golden Throne of Holy Terra, His deathless state maintained by the daily sacrifice of a thousand souls. Even in His eternal undeath, however, the Emperor's Will is made manifest in the form of the Astronomicon, which lights the way for Imperial ships as they travel through the hellish immaterium known by many as the Warp.

But the God-Emperor, it seems, is dying. The Golden Throne that sustains Him is constantly degrading, creeping ever nearer to failure, and the guiding light of His Astronomicon has begun to flicker.

System is D100 (best of three), roll-under, with highly simplistic modifiers and skill-levels. The dice won't be used an awful lot. Except for when they will be, which is, y'know, combat.

Natural 1 = Critical Success.
Natural 100= Critical Failure.
Crits override non-crits.
Critical Failures negate Critical Successes and vice versa; Critical Failures negate five Degrees of Success; Critical Successes mitigate five Degrees of Failure.

To succeed on an average, unremarkable, completely neutral-in-terms-of-everything skill test, you have to roll UNDER 40.
That is, 39 or lower.

(This system is subject to change if it turns out to be terrible)

YOU are Bellatrix Curis, Novice Battle-Sister, and...

Well, you're about to purge the filthy greenskins infesting this planet.

You're clad in your armor, all nice and shiny and black, and cradling the multi-melta the engineseer prepared for you in your arms. You're on your side, peeking over a small mound and doing your best to scope out the encampment of the orks you and Alirye declined to take on before.

Alirye is crouching beside you, grumbling something about 'stupid mon-keighs messing with my spear'- presumably because she's still mad at the tech-priest who had the brilliant idea to wrap her spear in cloth to keep the humming noise down.

Your pointy-eared compatriat is in good spirits- presumably because she hasn't had to come near any trees just yet.

How'd that happen, anyways?
>You got a ride from Aila. Who knew she'd be so good at driving a Rhino?
>You just... walked around the forest. It seemed prudent. Took FOREVER, though.

>Rhinos
While your use of the most venerable APCs makes sense in context, I do find it an act of most despicable cowardice. I'm afraid I must tell you to abandon the use of the aforementioned vehicles.
>>
Behind you, or- no, not necessarily /behind/ you. You're on your side, after all.

To your right- which is opposite the direction you're looking- is Aila's Chimera. It's just barely short enough to be concealed by the micro-hill you're peering over- which, considering its blood-red paint job, is probably pretty fortunate.

It's kinda creepy, though, the way the little multilaser turret seems to be looking about on its own. Apparently Aila can drive the thing and use her mechadendrites to operate its weapon at the same time.

Techpriests are strange.

You focus on watching the greenskins.

Like before, they're mostly milling about, fighting one another, and firing weapons willy-nilly.

Unlike before, however, they seem to be up-armoring one of their trukks.

Or maybe they're building a tank from scratch...?j

It's really frakking hard to tell.
Mostly because it's hard to distinguish their 'vehicles' from the random piles of garbage strewn about their encampment.

There's no wall, unless one counts the waist-high ring of garbage surrounding their... base. There's something you suppose you could call a 'gate,' which is really just an opening in the trash-wall with a sign reading “NO UMIES UHLOWD” over it.

They don't seem to have anything for taking out vehicles, save for the maybe-tank, which looks like it has a big cannon-thing strapped to its roof. So, if you take that out, you should be able to have Aila come in and provide fire support without risk.

>Consult Alirye and Aila before making a plan.
>You and Alirye'll sneak in and blow that thing sky-high!
>You'll stroll in through the gate all distraction-like while Alirye sneaks in and murders the tank thing!

“...so the plan is basically 'take out the thing that could mess up the plan and then shoot everything that moves'?”

You nod. “Yep. I call it, 'Operation Shoot Everything that Moves'. Whaddya think?”

Alirye grins. “Seems reasonable enough to me- a simple plan has a lot less that can go wrong than a convoluted one... are you sure that thing is a threat, though?” She peeks at the armored scrap-heap and shakes her head. “I suppose you can't ever be too careful with orks.”

“Yeah. The greenskins are dumb, sure. But they're so dumb that they're almost impossible to predict...”

You slip down the tiny hill, make your way around the Chimera, and, upon reaching the back doors, open one and address Aila. “On our signal, come in through the gate and start shooting everything green. Got it?”

She glances back from the driver's seat and gives you a thumbs-up. “What's the signal?”

“Explosions, panic, gunfire- moreso than the ambient explosions and panic and gunfire you can hear now.”

“... Okay. Got it. May the Omnyassiah look proudly upon us all!”

“And may the Emperor protect us,” you reply, shutting the door as you finish speaking.
[1/2]
>>

The Emperor smiles upon you this day, it seems, as even your power-armored bulk manages to sneak past the two greenskin lookouts who seem to be bickering about which way they should be facing. Further making your job easy, the tank-thing is on the outskirts of the encampment, guarded only by a single ork.

The ork in question is rather a bizarre one- he is, it seems, the ork equivalent of a techpriest: he has a metal arm which ends in a hideous set of claws, as well as random chunks of metal attatched to his body with little rhyme or reason. His 'work' on the 'vehicle,' which seems to consist of welding random bits of scrap to the chassis and painting them red whilst complaining about the lack of 'dakka', is cut short when Alirye's spear pops into existence, slices his head clean off, and bisects it not once, but /twice/ before it hits the ground. You gawk, and she appears momentarily- just long enough to strike a pose, deliver a blown-kiss and wink combo, and make your cheeks heat up- before disappearing once more.

You shake your head and return your focus to the task at hand.

You've gotta destroy this... tank-thingie!

>Hit it with the Multi-melta! You got it for a reason, after all!
>Grab it and flip it over! Gotta show off your musc- err, preserve stealth and ammunition...?

You inspect the ugly red pile of scrap for a few moments before locating the bit you were looking for.

The gas tank.

It's as red and shitty-looking as the rest of this frakking contraption, and, by the grace of the Emperor- or perhaps the Omnissiah- it's barely attached to the damn thing. It looks like it was hastily bolted onto the back of the machine as an afterthought- as if the 'designer' had completely forgotten that vehicles need fuel to run.

You take hold of the tank, which is really just a large-ish metal barrel full of flammable, flammable fuel, and tear it off.

“... Bella, what are you-”

You one-hand your multi-melta, and, with a couple of pulls of the trigger, turn what was once a wannabe-tank into a wannabe-puddle of slag.

It's kind of odd, the melta. The weapon itself is nearly-silent. It's the conical blast of superheated air that makes all the noise.

Or, in this case, conical /blasts/- you're wielding a multi-melta, after all.

Still, though- the thunderclaps of the rushing super-hot air are plenty noisy, and it takes all of ten seconds for a clump of two-dozen or so greenskins to come rushing around the corner of the large, central scrap-heap that you suppose they'd call a 'building'.

As soon as they set eyes on you, they let loose a gutteral collective bellow. “UUUUMIIIIEEE!!!”

They're some twenty meters away, and beginning to charge. They open fire with their cobbled-together bolters, though not in any sort of way that concerns you- most of them aren't even pointed in your general direction, for the Emperor's sake!

>Toss the fuel tank at 'em. Then shoot it. SMITE THEM IN THE NAME OF THE EMPEROR!

They don't shout 'WAAAAGH!', which kind of surprises you- you suppose there's not enough greenskins for them to consider it a serious endeavor.

The thought amuses you, and a wry smile finds its way to your lips. There'll be even fewer greenskins in just a moment...

“... Bella? Seriously, what are you doing, we need to-”

“Just watch,” you say, glancing at the spot Alirye's voice came from and winking, “I've got this.”

You put your multi-melta away and toss the fuel tank at the foremost greenskin, hitting him in the face and sending him sprawling.

A cry of “WUT DA ZOG?!” rings out as you draw your pistol and fire.

You can feel it, even before you've finished pulling the trigger.

You're on target, but not as precise as you wanted to be.

Up and to the right, as it were.

Not the perfectly-centered shot you wanted.

You should've taken a second to aim before firing.

The bolt hits the red container of flammable liquid just as you anticipated- up and to the right.

The resulting explosion sends a veritable hurricane of fire and shrapnel flying into the greenskins to the left of the barrel, tearing them to shreds and burning any giblets not launched out of the inferno to ashes.

The orks to the right of the barrel, however, get a much smaller dosage of death. Only two of them fall, and the tongues of flame that lick at them are mostly extinguished by the red mist generated by the demise of their comrades.

The end result is that there are still eight orks charging you, spraying bolter rounds and brandishing axes and otherwise behaving as orks do.

The roar of the Chimera's engine drowns the greenskins out momentarily as Aila comes barreling through the gate, her multilaser spitting death at the enemies of Man that you can't yet see.

>Draw your other pistol and mop up these last orks, then head for the Chimera.

“IN THE EMPEROR'S NAME,” you bellow as you slam your boltpistol into its holster, whip out your Multi-melta, and level the weapon at the approaching orks, “I CLEANSE YOU OF YOUR FILTH!”

You squeeze the trigger, and, much to your surprise, the weapon doesn't fire.

The Orks are within spitting distance at this point. More importantly, they're forced to form a single-file line to approach you, due to the remains of the tank-thing and the 'wall' of trash beside it.

You're about to start panicking when a voice in your head whispers, 'Now,' and the Multi-melta discharges, turning the slavering pack of orks into a sizzling patch of blackened grass.

Alirye places a hand on your shoulder and pops back into view.

“... Are you alright?”

“... Yeah. Yeah, I'm fine.” You heft the multi-melta. “It... took a moment to fire. Scared the crap outta me.” You laugh awkwardly, and Alirye frowns.

Her brows furrow in consternation, and, after a moment, she says, “... That could have killed you.”

“It wasn't even a second off- the Machine Spirit's probably just a bit cranky from being used on such filth, y'know?”

“... I see.” She sighs. “I trust you'll have someone look into it later, then?”

“Of course! I wouldn't dream of doing otherwise!”

She looks you in the eyes for a few moments before nodding. “Right... forgive me if I seem overbearing in this issue,” she says after a brief pause, “I... I know how rash your kind can be, and I'd like to avoid watching you die through some absolutely stupid and completely avoidable tragedy.”

“I'll do my best to avoid dying,” you promise, and Alirye grins.

“Good,” she replies, before fussing with your hair a bit, giving you a peck on the cheek, and hefting her spear. “Now, let's kill the rest of these imbeciles.”

“Right!” You gesture towards the central structure and make sure that your Multi-melta's still loaded and ready to go. “Let's crash whatever party they're having in there!”

“... I like the way you think.”

The two of you move into position by the wall amidst the sounds of a Chimera driving around and spraying everything that moves with its multilaser, and, as you prepare to make some very Imperial modifications (a nice side-access door, for example) to a classic example of the Orks' lame excuse for architecture, Alirye asks, “Shall I take point? You shrug. “I think it'll probably make a hole big enough for us to go in at the same time.”

Alirye scratches her chin. “Are you sure?”

“... Only one way to find out,” you note as you level the Multi-melta and fire, making a nice, big hole in the wall.

The two of you rush through the freshly-made opening. Once you clear the cloud of steam created by your entry, you see a trio of exceptionally-large greenskins in the center of a surprisingly large structure that, from the inside, looks to be equal parts barracks, throne room, and arena. Each greenskin is easily over two-and-a-half meters tall, clad in make-shift armor that's painted that same ugly red color as the tank-thing was, and armed to the teeth.

In fact, one of them is so heavily armored that you can't help but compare it to a Space Marine- indeed, if you were to take a Space Marine and beat him within an inch of his life with the Ugly Stick, he would probably look quite a lot like one of these brutes.

The three green giants are locked in what appears to be a three-way duel- they tear at one another with their huge metal claws and bludgeon each other with their guns (none of which has any fewer than two barrels) and bellow what you presume are meant to be insults at one another.

You exchange glances with Alirye, who seems just as unsure what to do as you are.

Last-ditch to negate crit fail?

Whoa.

Unless anon rolls a 1, that's a critfail.

On the bright side, if anon does roll a 1, then >>38412406's 14 will be the roll used, and that's pretty freakin' good.

Anyways, just need one more roll.
You can't do much harm, so don't be afraid!

I love this quest.
>>
“... There!” Alirye whispers after a few moments of looking about the room, thrusting a finger towards a single piece of metal that runs vertically from the floor to the ceiling. Now that she's mentioned it, you notice … two, three, four... five columns around the room, placed seemingly at random, each one a similar piece of scrap- a long, uninterrupted strut or beam or what-have-you. “If we take those out, we should be able to bring the roof down on those assholes!”

You put the Multi-melta down and stroke your chin. “Good thinking, but... it seems pretty dangerous, doesn't it? I mean, who knows which beam'll be the straw that breaks the grox's back? And can we make it out if the ceiling comes down earlier than expected?” You grimace. “And what'll we do if the greenskins notice?”

“Yer gonna git krumped iz wot.”

“Exactly,” you say, nodding, “if you greenskins notice us, we'll be absolutely, positively,” you pause as you realize what just happened... you look behind you and find yourself looking at a very large, very pissed-off looking ork. “... frakked,” you finish weakly.

As if things weren't bad enough, the ork behind you is the bigger, armored one. His big claw-thing is slick with blood, which, you imagine, belongs to the now very-dead ork whose dismembered remains litter the area in which the three orks had been fighting earlier.

[1/2]
>>
You laugh awkwardly. Maybe if you keep it distracted you can grab your Multi-melta and send it to oblivion... “That's, um, a nice... claw... thing... you've got there...?”

It blinks. “Me powah klaw /iz/ ded killy, innit? Dankz, oomie, I 'prish-ee-ate dat, I rilly duz. Itz not awf-ten ya see an oomie sayin' sumfin' noice 'bout sumfin' wot'z belongin' ta sumwun els.” It shakes its head. “Datz da kinda mat-yer-it-ee oomans neva seemz ta got, it iz.”

You blink. That... You think it might almost have a point. Almost.

“...I'm still gonna krump ya, I iz.”

“... Are you sure? I'm sure we could come to some sort of-”

The ork roars belligerently and swipes at you with its 'powah klaw.' You hop back to avoid it, and you would've been fine, were it not for the Multi-melta you left on the ground. Your foot catches on the weapon, and, as you're flailing and struggling to keep your balance, the ork's klaw catches your left arm, shearing through arm and armor alike.

You cry out in pain, lose what little balance you had managed to preserve, and fall flat on your back.

The ork steps closer and raises its 'powah klaw' again in preparation to deliver the killing blow.

Your immediate instinct is to pray. “Emperor protect me,” you breathe. It's a simple prayer, but an effective one nonetheless.

The ork brings its klaw down, and...

>You return the favor, slicing its arm off with claws of your own. (Shapeshifter Weapons)
>You draw your personal boltpistol and shoot it in the face. (Blessing: Nerves of Steel)
>You laugh, because it's much too slow and clumsy to hit you! (Heightened Reflexes)
>Something else? (Write-in!)

Super strength and better reflexes? Female space marine here we come.

... First of all, I don't think he wants to be your friend.
Second, you don't want to be his friend.
Lastly, shooting someone in the face is a really terrible way to befriend them!

Can't Alirye Mindwar the MAN? Or, you know, do something?

>>38413813
>Lastly, shooting someone in the face is a really terrible way to befriend them!
Nanoha would like a word.
>>
>>38413844
The shape-shifting one involves growing the arm back. If you're that desperate, that'd be your option.
>>
>>38413813
>Yep.
It wasn't all that clear seeing as that sentence just ended at it hitting our arm.

Also Aila better be able to reattach it, because fuck getting a cybernetic prosthetic, how can we properly hold hands with Alirye then? How can we feel her butt, tease her ears?

>>38413844
I know anon, though seeing as its a power klaw, Alirye should be able to put it in stasis for Aila to reattach
>>
>>38413867
So can we get Aila to reattach it with a kickass scar later?

Kind of very important to know for the vote...
>>
>>38413707
and I would liketo return the favor with my own claw... Will make it pretty later
>>
>>38413894
Oh. Good point. You can reattach limbs sometimes.
>>
>>38413860
>Can't Alirye Mindwar the MAN? Or, you know, do something?
Yeah, what the fuck is the useless boob doing? Just standing there watching us get our arm cut off?
>>
>>38413913
you can reattach limbs a vast majority of the time when they are just cut off or severed, unless they are entirely destroyed, but the power klaw is a force weapon which just severed it
>>
>>38413873
Shearing means 'cutting off,' doesn't it?
I apologize if that wasn't clear.

>>38413894
If you grow it back, you won't /need/ to reattach it?
Otherwise, it kinda depends. At the moment, reattaching would be possible, I think.

>>38413899
... is that a vote, anon?
>>
>>38413930
Force weapons cut really cleanly, though, iirc. Also, Aila is a Magos Biologis. Reattaching limbs should be child's play.
>>
>>38413867
Does it let us grow something extra downstairs?

>>38413963
>At the moment, reattaching would be possible
Well seeing as it was just sheared off then I say we get Alirye to put it in stasis for Aila to reattach later and I'll stick with my vote.

>>38413982
Exactly.
>>
>>38413988
>text in spoilers
NO. That would be MUTATION, and MUTATION is HERESY.
>>
>>38413963
it used to be before I learned what you said in this text I'm changing votes to the reflex thingy will have the kitty lady put it back on later
>>
>>38414043
It's only a mutation if it's because Chaos.
>>
>>38414043
But what if it was a blessing from the Big E? A sign that he wants us to help both the human and eldar races, and also bonk our warlock waifu
>>
>>38414047
In English please?
>>
>>38413988
... I suppose it could, yes. I don't think that sort of thing would occur to Bella, though.

Okay, these votes are all over the freakin' place, and it seems like there's mind-changing an' what-not going on, too.

So we'll do a definitive re-vote. Pick one, and only one. If you have questions, ask first and then vote once I've answered, to minimize headache.

>Heightened Reflexes- exactly what it says on the tin- you have reflexes that are quite excellent.

>Nerves of Steel- The Emperor has blessed you with the ability to stare death in the face and take action in situations where lesser men and women would be paralyzed by fear, panic, pain, etc.

>Shapeshifter Weapons- you can turn bodyparts into weapons that are very good at killing things. You'll also be able to regrow limbs as a side-effect of how the ability works.
>>
>>38414164
He's changing votes to the Heightened Reflex one and hopes the AdNyech will reattach the arm.

Sticking with this, though we should get Shapeshifter the next time the Big E gives us such a blessing.

>Heightened Reflexes- exactly what it says on the tin- you have reflexes that are quite excellent.

I think that's probably it for a while. We're getting these too often for it to keep up. At this pace, we'll be the Star Child by thread 50.
>>
>>38414252
I just said that doesn't work
>>
>>38414270
The plan is for you to get one once per big 'thing'. 'Kill all the orks' is the first 'big' task you've been given.

The choices are largely situational, so it's entirely possible that you won't have the option to take shapeshifter weapon the next time 'round. Giving you powers that'll be useless in your current situation wouldn't do a lot of good, y'know?
>>
>>38414346
No you didn't, you only said your phones voice to text program sucked, then told me to fuck myself, go be rude elsewhere.
>>
>>38414364
>Giving you powers that'll be useless in your current situation wouldn't do a lot of good, y'know?
That logic is stupid.

If I'm currently asleep, that doesn't mean that I should forgo ever eating anything ever again because as I'm currently asleep, I don't need to eat...

The lack of situational context in the present does not exclude the chance that such context will ever present itself.
>>
>>38414418
>I'm going to die. I'm about to be stabbed!
>>Here's three powers that'll help you not die because of stabbing!
>>Alternatively, I'll make you the richest man in the world!

Your example misrepresents the situation at hand, anon.
>>
>>38414488
My example was more hyperbole to represent the failing of that logic, but I understand your counterpoint.
>>
>>38414488
>Not thinking that by being the richest man in the galaxy we make a time machine, found the Ordos Chronos, come back in time and save us from being stabbed.

As to be expected of a pathetic Corpse God worshipper, you're plans are found lacking.
>>
>>38414377

It always makes me nervous when there's far fewer votes than there are IPs in the thread.

>>38414550
"I'm the richest man in the world"
>"Yeah, right." [Insert stabbing here]

Your plans are the ones lacking, anon. Because the whole 'getting stabbed to death' thing involves you dying. Being dead impedes your ability to do things, y'know.

Anyways, writing.
>>
>>38413813
>Lastly, shooting someone in the face is a really terrible way to befriend them!

So, this goop stuff works like stims from Star Wars, and can give people superpowers if injected into them right? Does Alirye have any psyker powers like turning herself into a friendly, much like a Culexus Assassin?
>>
>>38414614
>It always makes me nervous when there's far fewer votes than there are IPs in the thread.
Well the counter isn't really all that accurate and only gives you a glimpse at how many IPs post through the threads life, I've used 3 different IPs in this thread because I'm on wifi. Also some anons wake up, others go to sleep, timezones mean rarely will you get the numbers matching up.
>>
>>38414614
Esper, those votes are clearly all for Heightened Reflexes.

I don't think I have yet.
