/tg/ - Traditional Games

You are Reinhold Eschenwald, master swordsman and victor of the Royal Swordsmanship Tournament. The King was so impressed with your skill, he personally requested that you be transferred out of the army and into the Royal Guard! Not bad for an orphan who was raised in a brothel in a poor fishing village.

One of many issues that you're forced to deal with at this point is your assignment... you've been charged to be the personal guard of the King's only daughter Marianne. While she is the vision of loveliness that you'd expect from a Princess, her personality is... well... she seems to have some issues.

After a round of airborne shenanigans, you and Luciana finally landed at the castle.

Needless to say, there were many tears involved.

>Congratulations, Reinhold is now a ferocious TIGER!
>Strong and fearless, tigers are the only predators known to feed on lesser dragons.
>The Princess considers you to be her dear friend and fierce protector!
>But while tigers truly are impressive, they still fall short of being considered as people.

"Sorry about worrying you like that, buddy!" Sir Vincent laughs while slapping his friend on the back. "You need a hug?"
"Absolutely not," Sir Gregory growls.
"...I can't hug?" Inaba asks with a disappointed look on her face.

With a tired groan, Sir Gregory walks over to the bunnygirl, kneels down, and wraps his arms around her.

"Just like with Luciana and Elena, -you- are always allowed to hug me," he says.
"Ehehe..."
"And now that our greetings are done with," he says, lifting Inaba up into the air, "how about we tell the others that you've all made it back safely?"

Luciana's her best friend, and Marianne and our other friends were probably far more worried than the king what with him knowing about the whole Vincent thing.

Aquaman was pretty chill about this whole ordeal but Marianne was upset. We should show her the jobs done so she doesn't turn into a bigger bundle of nerves than she currently is.

Interludes will be in, though I haven't decided how exactly I'll do them.

>>

Really, actual readership of PGQ is probably very high. We have ~70 posters peak and big threads get +40 in the archives. That's not counting those who only lurk in live threads, and those who only read the archives but don't vote.
>>
>>38457282
>worried it was going to die out back then
Same, so glad it bounced back a bit.

>>38457307
Yeah, there was about 70 threads (SEVENTY THREADS!) between getting home from Marconetti and the start of the Cateno/Lake Attack arc of down time.
Down time's fun and a good quest needs it to flesh out its characters but 70 threads might put some people off.
The fact that there was so much more activity as soon as shit started getting real at least shows that it turned a lot of people into inactive lurkers, who could jump straight back in, rather than turning them away from the quest completely.
>>
>>38457466
Yeah you'd be surprised how big of a nonvocal following there is.
I think Moot once said that like 60% of site traffic doesn't even post or something crazy like that.
>>
>>38457140
I've been here since thread one. As for however many survived, I'd number us less than 15.
>>
>>38457458
I still don't remember what it was that really set the waifufags off though. It wasn't the rejecting Sylvie thing because they went nuclear long before that happened.
>>
>>38457405
Well now you know which one to get her in New game+.
>>
>>38457497
Hell, I think the reddit admins (just for comparison don't kill me) said that over half their traffic doesn't vote on anything. Lurking is huge.

Welcome, Anon.

>>
>>38457518
Luci declaring direct war on Sylvie didn't really help.
>>
>>38457518
If I had to guess without going back into the archives to actually look it was Luci being very forward and the interludes with her stating her intentions to pursue us.
>>
>>38457570
Congrats then!
>>
>>38457140
It has been a long journey, but I have persevered.
>>
>>38457602
Well we've got around ten years or so of /b/ making everybody think this site is full of trolls. Whereas here on /tg/ its just cynical douchebags.
>>
>>38457610
But that was completely in character for her. Why did that set people off so much?
>>
>>38457496
Makes sense. I'm not usually one to lose sleep over deciding who we're going to bug in the morning or our plans(however amusing they are) to ship our adopted little sister and our future brother-in-law. I'll read through it the next morning or during lunch(I started reading this quest back in Germany, so it started first thing in the morning and ran through lunch), but most of the time I just can't participate.
>>
>>38457674
Sylviefags took it as a threat and starting shit posting against her, which started the war.
>>
>>38457674
People figured "OMG AGRESSIVE FORWARD WOMAN = ONE TRUE ROUTE RAILROADING WTF"
>>
>>38457667
The last time I went on /v/, I think I saw an actual Russian shill.
>>
>>38457674
It made the Sylviefags go on the offensive to try and trash her reputation and which caused Lucifags to go on the attack and everything sorta spiraled outta control from there.
>>
>>38457674
Because waifufags.
>>
>>38457674
I think partly because of lot of people were in the "Rein should avoid relationships" camp and once multiple girls actually expressed an interest in him staying neutral wasn't exactly an option.
>>
>>38457693
>>38457674
You're kind of forgetting the large crowd of shitposters who were just there to stir the pot.

Take that out and the waifuwar wouldn't really have been much of a waifuwar.
>>
>>38457674
Because one waifu was declaring war on another waifu.
How can you not understand how that might have contributed to the waifu wars?

>>38457693
It's not about railroading or who was in character or whatever.Just because it was well written but that doesn't mean people can't through a shitstorm over it.
>>
>>38457723
Eh, both were contributing factors.
>>
>>38457723
I dunno man there were tons of people writing long paragraphs on why their waifu was the best or better then another persons waifu.
>>
>>38457728
I never said it *was* railroading. Just that some people saw it as that.
>>
"Yeah, I don't want them to worry about us any more than they already have been," you say. "Are Marianne and the others still in that waiting room?"
"I know that Agnes and your sister said that they were going to stick around there for as late as they could manage in hopes that you'd make it back today... I don't think that any of the others have left either."
"That's good," Luciana nods. "So we won't have to track everyone down."

With Sir Gregory leading the way, your merry little group makes their way into the castle.

"None of you guys were hurt during all that shit that went down in Ancellotta?" Nicolette asks.
"Nothing major, thankfully," you reply. "I think you'll be pleased to know that they came out of it a LOT worse for wear, though."
"Yes..." Luciana smirks. "Thanks to Sir Vincent in particular."
"Yeah, I guess..." the massive Knight shrugs. "If Reinhold hadn't went on into their capital to find me, I'd probably still be wrecking their city right now."

"Yeah," Sir Vincent laughs. "I found myself in a huge room filled with soldiers... I guess they were expecting Luciana to be transported there so they weren't all that happy to see me."
"I'd bet."
"So after some attempts on my part to fish out as much information as I could, they started talking a much of shit so I tore off that slave collar and started wrecking up the place."
"You just... tore it off?" Sir Gregory stares at him in disbelief. "Bare-handed?"
"Believe me when I say that I'm stronger than you even know," he says while flexing. "So after getting stabbed a few times, I got really pissed off and let loose... and that's when Reinhold and Niklaus and that other guy found me."

>Celestino knew Volker had an apprentice kicking around
>Bribed the prostiutes to make Rein's life a living hell so he wants to join the army
>Army agents make Rein best at swording
>Rigged the royal tourney so we'd win both by getting bad matchups and drugging Monique before the finals
>Made sure Nico and Sylvie were in positions of power so we'd meet them
>Using them we'd grow close to Marie
>Sends Luci over not to seduce Aquaman, but Rein

>One of his most loyal knights, Leo sacrifices himself to make a fake conspiracy.
>Luci kidnapped, Rein goes in and reacues her
>Hire merc army to stage a couple of skirmishes
>Celestino now has an extremely influential swordsman thats very close with almost all the ruling class as well as all of Granache ready to bring herself and her allies into a war

Yeah but the VN dev blog is up. Work is actually being done on the VN. That must mean we're approaching the end of Mr. Archelon's Wild Ride.

Besides, I think hes gotten sick of running quests. Especially since hes explicitly mentioned that there were several times over the course of PGQ he considered dropping it. Plus staying up until 6am nearly every day for a year and a half sounds nightmarish.

"They ought to still be in there," Sir Gregory says while pointing to the door. "And since I'm not one of the people that everyone's waiting with bated breath to see again, you guys can head on in first."
"Thanks," you say, nodding to him as you walk past.

Though it's only been about a quarter of a day since you last saw everyone, it feels like a hell of a lot longer than that. Not wanting to waste another minute, you turn the doorknob and walk on in ahead of the others.

"Oh my god!" Citrine jumps up from her chair. "Reinhold!"

Citrine leaps from her seat and starts to run right towards you, but Marius catches onto her arm and pulls her back before she can get too far.

"I know how excited you are to see him alive and well, but you need to remember..."
"...shit, sorry," Citrine mumbles.

But although Citrine was prevented from hitting you with her usual tackle-hug, you still find that familiar sensation of a sudden weight pushing you back.

and despite your best efforts, you find yourself pivoting back on your heels

and then you're horizontal.

That's only how she presented herself to us because of her insecurities and most of the time, she really wasn't that bad.

Part of Thierri's motivation for hiring Rein was to have him bring Marianne out of her self-loathing shell and become more approachable. By the time Rein resign so that he can marry Luci, she'll probably be far more friendly than she was in Thread 1.
Though saying that, whoever succeeds Rein as the bodyguard will have a good shot at her.

Seconds after Marianne lets go of you, you find yourself pulled back to your feet by Nicolette.

"Damn, no wonder she was able to carry you like that..."Nicolette laughs.
"I guess Niklaus's spell is still in effect," you reply whole massaging our aching ribs.

Meanwhile, the immediate area around Luciana is all tears. Elena and Emilio and Marianne AND Luciana are all crying and hugging and it's really a touching moment... but you figure that you ought to maybe step back to give them some apace.

WHUMP

Suddenly, you find yourself being hugged once again. And fortunately, you're not knocked over this time around.

"You came back!" Carina chirps. "I told Elena that you'd come back and then you did!"
"Yup," you laugh. "And I take it that you kept Citrine and Marius and Grandma safe for me while I was gone?"
"Uh-huh!" she replies with a beaming smile.

Just as Carina lets go of you, Citrine swoops in and takes her place.

"I'm so glad that you're okay!" Citrine cries. "And you even brought Luciana back..."
"Volker would be so proud of you," Agnes says, smiling at you.

As Citrine releases her grip on you, you turn around and are met with Karel. Though her eyes are red from all the crying that she was presumably doing, the smile on her face right now is most definitely genuine.

"I'm sure you're sick of hugging and crying and all that by now so I don't so any of that," Karel says as she wipes her eyes.
"Well it's not like I'd stop you if you really wanted to," you reply.
"C'mon, man..." she groans. "I'm trying NOT to be all mushy and girly for once today."

Given the events of earlier today and the fact that she's still wearing a dress, you can definitely understand her sentiment.

"It's just..." she places a hand to her temples, "...I still feel shitty about Leopold and all of that stuff so I'm just gonna say thanks for taking care of that. I don't know that I would've been able to do the same."

"Hey, you held down the fort here and kept Emilio from freaking out too badly, right?" you ask.
"It's more like him and Marianne kept ME from freaking out," Karel mumbles.
"Well I'm sure that trying to be strong for you helped Emilio not to lose it himself," you reply.

And then you hug her.

"H- hey, I just SAID-"
"Luciana princess-carried me back to the castle," you say. "So believe me when I say that I don't care at all if it's girly or not. It's hug time."
"Dammit..." she groans, squeezing in protect for a few seconds before finally giving in and hugging you right back. "...you're lucky you're like my second-best friend."

It isn't until you let go of Karel that you're finally able to take a proper look around the room. Over where Luciana is, you see her siblings along with Marianne, Inaba and Andreas... of course your own family is surrounding you...

...and sitting in the back of the room are Racquel, Valerie... and Sylvie and Angelique too. Sylvie gives you a weak wave from across the room, but she doesn't seem to have any energy to stand up...

"GUESS WHO'S BACK HOME FROM BEING KIDNAPPED!!"

You can't help but laugh at that booming voice paired with the reactions of its owner's wife and children.

The second that Sir Vincent peeks his head through the doorframe, all three of his daughters leap from their seats and race towards the front of the room as fast as they possibly can. And with an amused smile on her face, Angelique soon follows after them (but at a normal walking speed, of course).

"Daddy!" Racquel cries. "You're back!"
"Nothing could keep me from my three little angels!" the Knight laughs as all three of them leap into his massive arms. "Angelique, you want to join in too?"
"No," she laughs, "I think I'll wait until they're finished."

While Sir Vincent gets his long-awaited welcoming home, Emilio breaks off from the group surrounding his sister.

"Karel!" he calls out while he makes his way over her. "Look, he even brought Sir Vincent back!"
"Yeah, I can see that," Karel replies with an embarrassed smile.
"I'm so happy I don't even know what do do with myself!" he laughs. "Reinhold, thank you SO much!"
"I only did what I needed to," you reply with a shrug.

"But still... to take the initiative like that and physically run all the way out there to get her back..." Emilio closes his eyes and shakes his head. "I bet Father would say that I could learn a lesson from you about how a man ought to act."
"I really don't think I'm such a good example of how you ought to act," you reply with a nervous laugh.
"Really," Karel smirks. "I like you just the way you are, s-MMGH"

Out of freaking NOWHERE, Emilio pulls Karel in close and plants one right on her lips. It all plays out in slow motion, and you're pretty sure that your eyes are bugging out every bit as much as Karel's are right now.

As quickly as it happened, Karel pushes him away.

"Wwwwwhat the FUCK, Emilio!" Karel shouts.
"Reinhold took the initiative in going out to save Luciana, so I thought that it was about time that I did the same concerning my own life," Emilio replies.
"Wwwwhy the hell'd you-" she glares at you.
"Hey, this has nothing to do with me," you shrug.

Karel tries to cover her blushing face with her hands, but Emilio grabs one of them before she can.

"I did that because I -like- you, Karel," Emilio says, looking her right in the eyes. "I know I'm a wimp and that you're stronger than me and all that, but I thought that I ought to be the one to be the one to take the first step here."
"Bbbbut why the hell do you have to do this in front of everyone!?"
"...because that makes it harder for me to wuss out and run off," he mumbles. "But, uh... what I said is true so if you're willing to become my girlfriend then that'd be great and-"
"oh my god you are so fucking stupid"

Cheered on by Elena and Inaba, the new couple walks over to the window to have what passed for alone time here in this crowded room.

But I was also thinking about doing worldbuilding asides in between in-game days, so I dunno how well that would work out for me.

>Are reinhold, Marriane, and now Luciana going to bond over mutual molestation stories?
Ew. No.

I haven't decided yet.

And now it is time for me to sleep. Thanks for playing!

Then we shall call it "World with a ring"!

Rungworld?
>>
So... anyone else want to see a pnp based on this?

Reinworld.

You could probably reproduce the experience with existing ones.

I can't think of one of the top of my head that would let me combine a movement spell with a defense spell to cannonball through a giant monsters skull.

>>38461573
Not really. I think False Dendrite Quest would make for a much better pnp setting.

I would kill for a well executed open world RPG. The setting is fucking ideal for exploration, and would adapt brilliantly to any number of combat mechanics. Something taking cues from FROM software, MG Revengeance or Shadow Warrior for intense feel-good physical combat; Morrowind influenced alchemy/magic system would allow for creative spellcasting that reflects the nature of the setting very well, particularly with a semi-competent physicist or two working on the simulation side to facilitate emergent spell effects. The JRPG/animesque worldstyle would very likely make procedural quests feel much less uncanny.

Haven't touched that one, actually

That's... interesting? Sounds really cool and far more involved than a mere rpgs and what does it have to do with the quest at all?

Just mulling over how well the setting would work in a more open framework. I usually consider open world style games to be an equivalent to pnp as they represent a rulesystem and setting to tell stories in and for players to explore in their own direction, just with the rules and GM coded in as the engine and scripting, respectively.
