You are John James Green, mutant vagrant.

Chaucer Street is a long line of sprawling dockside complexes that cluster up against the southern banks of the Bronx. There are no shops, no restaurants, no tourists or nighttime commuters or any of the other New York staples – the landscape here is purely industrial. Cars pass by in ones and twos, their passage reminding you of the slow, intermittent dripping of rainwater from the edges of awnings. From here, even Queens seems to glow.

This is where you’ve tracked Alicia Manfredi to.

It didn’t take you long to find the place. Between your nose and Moon Knight’s phone, you narrow it down to one of the huge, blocky boathouses that line the edge of the water. A slab of uncompromising concrete and corrugated metals, it’s the kind of building that seems to sprawl, its low height seeming mismatched with the sturdy materials of its construction. A low fence surrounds the premises, but that’s not really a problem for you.

You blink, narrowing your eyes. You think you can see the slightest hint of electric lighting in one of the closer windows.

Beside you, Laura’s body radiates a sort of tense, razor-edged strength. Her stance seems relaxed, but you can see the intricate workings of her body moving against one another in taut, hard motions, her clockwork settling into a thunderous internal rhythm. Her cheeks glow against the cold.

She sniffs there air.

“There are at least twelve people inside.”

Bingo.

Essentially any goon working in major hero city's in this verse is going to be paranoid as all hell.
>>
>[X] Case.

“Yeah.” You draw in a long breath. Smells about right. “I think you’re right.”

Quiet, then.

Laura makes short work of the fence, and the two of you head in, cloaked under the effect of your invisibility. The plot of land surrounding the building is matted grass and damp earth, totally untended and unused for anything but establishing a safe perimeter around the place. You quickly realize that there’s no-one patrolling the exterior – which makes sense.

As far as you’ve gathered, Alicia’s kidnappers were under Mr. Negative’s employ, only working with the Bratva as a one-off. The Russians probably expected any retribution to fall squarely between the shoulders of the New York Triads.

Tapping quietly on one of the building’s walls, you let your echosense sketch out an image of the interior. There’s two floors. The first opens out into the river, a small yacht bobbing to and fro in the water. There are a number of industrial crates interspersed across the ground, but you’d need a closer feel at them to determine the contents – as it is, you only get vague, blurry shapes. You count eight heartbeats. three on the ground, four on the yacht. You think the last one is sitting on the stairs leading up to the second level.

Which, speaking of, is mostly just a framework of gangways running along the windows. Anyone up there can probably see straight down into the first floor. You count five heartbeats up there.

You bite your lip. It’s a pretty safe assumption that they’re armed.

This isn’t exactly ideal. You assume you’ll have to make some noise, eventually, and when you do you’ll be exposed from either above or below. You didn’t really want to split up, but…

Squeezing Laura’s hand slightly, you point to yourself, and then up at the windows looming above. She nods in silence, green eyes immediately comprehending, and tracing a finger from her chest to the heavy iron doors that stand slightly ajar at the front of the building. You get the strange, sudden impression that she’s slightly impressed – or that she at least approves. You’re not sure where it comes from, exactly, it’s just something about the way her weight shifts and her eyes linger.

Parting, you palm your way up the side of the building, making good time. Your horns (really? Horns?) throw off your balance a little, but you’re quickly getting used to them. You can’t retract them right now, but you can sort of feel that it’s possible, if that makes sense. You guess the gut-curdling fear has something to do with that.
>>
>(2/2)

Arriving at one of the windows, you glance in. By a stroke of dumb luck, you’ve managed to find one right beside a lone guard. He’s a big guy, his broad shoulders seeming unaccustomed to the drab suit they find themselves in, and he looks out over the complex below with an SMG cradled under one arm. You note that he’s carrying it properly, too, with the nose down.

His closest friend is about seven or eight meters away, on the other end of the gangway. Three other men (correction: two men, one woman) converse quietly by the adjacent side of the building.

Your heart pounds in your chest. You swallow your fear, lift the window open, and slip inside, your passage generating little more than a sigh of displaced air. The big Russian never sees you coming – you wrap your hand around his throat and let the volts flow, easing him down to the ground when he goes limp.

You’re in.

Guys, just a friendly reminder that looks like it might come in handy soon.

Enhanced Dexterity + JJ's GeoInt + Enhanced Strenght + an smg
With some training he could control the recoil completely and have deadly accuracy with each shoot, potentially 360noscoping a room full of russian mafiosos.
Or, if killing people leaves a bad taste in your mouth, shoot their guns out of their hands.
I wonder if it would be possible to intercept bullets shot at him with either an smg or his own optic blasts tho.

Checking the guy’s pulse, you pick up his gun.

It’s almost eerie, how your hands work almost of your own accord, transferring the weapon into a hold that is a carbon copy of the way you saw him carrying it earlier. Creepy, that. Useful, but extremely creepy, and maybe a little existentially worrying?

Eying the remaining guards, to get to work, progressing quietly down the corrugated gangway.

You catch the first man completely unawares. He goes down in a fit of spastic twitching, his eyes rolling wildly in their sockets before he loses consciousness. A thin line of wet, clear vomit dribbles down his chin, and you quickly make sure he’s in no danger of choking before leaving him to the relative bliss of unconsciousness.

The last three are difficult. They’re talking to one another in hushed tones, one or two of them chuckling occasionally, and they don’t look to be leaving each other’s presence anytime soon. Which means you’ll have to be quick, and, possibly, extremely brutal.
>>
>(2/2)

The first one, a large bald man with a grin that is about 60% fillings, catches the brutal end of things. You simply can’t taze them all in one motion, so you bring the butt of the SMG down on the back of his head, keeping as much of your strength in reserve as possible. His eyes wheel upward in his head and he staggers down to the floor. His friends get a second to appreciate what’s happening as you materialize out of the dark, leaping off their companion’s back, before you close your claws around their throats.

“Hnk”–

That’s all they get out. Your palms loose a stream of electricity through them, eliciting a brief moment of confused spasms from the pair before they go limp. Feeling a little drained, you ease them down to the ground.

Taking a moment to catch your breath, you sniff at the air, and realize you can smell blood.

Down below, Laura and one of the men on the lower floor are tucked behind one of the crates that litter the place. He’s slumped at her feet, the blood rapidly draining from a slim cut across his throat.

Yikes.

Well, we could go to each one of these guys and knock them out with strength 3--it's possible. Or we could very quickly and accurately put a couple bullets in each heart and reach the hostage quicker. This is a hypothetical non-stealth situation.

It's so often possible to avoid killing, but just consider what or who you are risking. In this case - Alicia's life/hostage rescue + the objective >>> mafia kidnappers.

At this point we haven't gotten to Alicia yet, so stealth is valuable. Once we do, getting her out of here is valuable. Since there are multiple, well-trained guards here, and we're still a stealth character, stealth is good until we have to fight.

Well, she seems to be handling herself. You wish she didn't have to kill these guys, though. You know they're all basically scumbags, but you know how taking a life feels.

Maybe it's different for her. Somehow, you don't think so.

You take a deep breath, letting the building and its contents stew a while in your lungs. Rusted metal, algae, cigarette smoke. Blood, water – you flinch a little at those. They’re not a happy combo for you.

It doesn’t take long to pick up Alicia – she smells nothing like the rest of this place. Her life is one of early breakfasts, constantly new clothes, and fresh flowers. She smells of a world constantly renewing itself; new things to wear, new things to try, new presents, new fashions, new friends. She’s a kaleidoscope, a whirling concentric rainbow.

She’s in the yacht, as you somewhat expected.

You edge your way down the stairs, finding that the man that had been sitting there is no longer among the living, Laura having propped him up against the railings on either side of the steps to produce the illusion of sleeping on the job.

You estimate three more left on the ground.

They’re not hard to make your way around. They can’t see you, and they’re not expecting trouble, so you manage to make your way almost up to the gangplank extending out to the yacht. As you approach, however, someone emerges, followed closely by another two set of figures.

The first is a small, mousy women somewhere in her late teens – probably your age or a year younger. She has fair, freckled skin and a mop of unruly brown hair. Her skinny frame is absolutely covered in thin scars, the echoes of many tiny cuts criss-crossing their way up her arms and across most of her exposed flesh. Even the lower sides of her cheeks are flecked with little dots of scar tissue, as though she was once hit by a whole lot of tiny, sharp rocks. Her eyes dart nervously across her surroundings and she never stops biting her lip.

The other two are a man with a smart long stare and a distinctively indistinct haircut, and an older woman in a burgundy suit, much of the skin on her face marred by burns. A long military coat hangs from her shoulders.

You realize that, with them outside, there’s only one heartbeat left inside the yacht.

The older woman says something in Russian, and the girl nods nervously – and you just know, somehow.

She knows someone’s in here.

You don’t think. Stopping to think keeps getting you shot, or stabbed, or worse.

Hell, once it got your eyes gouged out. Your eyes.

You raise the SMG, your eyes feeding you a list of probable outcomes for each half-inch of pressure, each slightly left or right, and you open fire.

The gun bucks against your grip, bright lashings of fire exploding from the tip. You kinda forgot how much of a kick these things could have, and your first few shots go awry, tearing through the top of the yacht, but you’re quick to steady your hands.

Two taps, and the man goes down, a bullet slicing through his knee. Amazingly, he seems mostly unphased, uttering little more than an infuriated grunt. You guess they make them to last in Russia. He draws a pistol from his jacket, eyes scrutinizing the building for the slightest sign of motion. You tap the trigger once more, and it flies from his grip, taking most of his trigger finger with it.

The older woman shouts something. Sounds like “Mischa!”

You turn the weapon on his companions, and –

“Izvinite!” Squeaks the girl, squeezing her eyes shut and swiping a skinny arm through the air.

Your danger sense explodes in the back of your brain, screaming for you to move.

You don’t know why (you never do when this shit happens), but you hurl yourself to one side.

There is an almighty, ear-splitting screech, and a roar not unlike the clapping of a vast audience. Every sheet of glass in the building explodes into a hundred-or-so glistening shards, cascading down through the air like a great torrent of scintillating, clear flame.

That includes the glasses in your coat pocket.

A sharp, searing pain lashes across your leg, blood pushing through your jeans. Luckily, your coat was trailing behind you as you moved, so there’s no glass working its way through your small intestines, but the tiny explosion has peppered your leg with a multitude of small cuts. None of it seems to have penetrated too deep, but it really, really hurts.

It hurts a lot more when, seemingly of their own accord, the tiny flecks of glass draw themselves out of your jeans, spiraling away through the air. You realize, with increasing horror, that none of the glass from above has actually hit the ground – it’s hovering several meters above the floor, orbiting the yacht in a slow, almost galactic spin.

The girl with the cuts scratches her arms, her eyes lit by a pale flame.

There is a collective screech as every shard of glass in the building turns in mid-air, angling its sharpest edge in your general direction.

Holy fucking shit.

GEOINTUITIVE VISION (Senses, Agility): JJ’s visual perception has become rigorously attuned to geometric patterns, trajectories, and pathways. He can intuitively know how best to aim an object so that it gets from point A to point B, predict the trajectories of moving forces in visual range, and know exactly the angle and velocity required to ‘bounce’ an object along a predetermined pathway.

I think you are misunderstanding the fundamental way Geo works. It's an ability that's meant to be used with thrown projectiles, not guns. JJ actually has to adapt to using a gun before he can effectively use Geo in conjunction with it. Just looking at the gun is pointless unless he's going to thrown the damn thing.

>success from beyond the Twilight Zone

Panic clenches your chest, and you do the first thing that comes to mind.

Before she gets a chance to fling her levitating artillery barrage in your direction, you unleash a blast of bright blue light from your eyes. It streaks over the water, hitting her square in the chest. She’s not a big girl, and she’s not exactly wearing body armour – her sense in fashion seems to trend toward tank tops and military pants, and they’re not even properly fitted to her. The blast slams her back against the yacht, knocking the wind from her lungs. Sputtering between clenched teeth, she collapses to her knees, hugging her stomach.

The halo of glass stops, some barely-tangible, motive force passing through it, and falls out of the air.

You hear a gruff, angry shout behind you, and turn around just in time to see one of the men on the ground levelling his SMG in your direction. Your danger sense doesn’t kick in, though, so...

Gunfire rattles through the building, and he slumps down, several thin streams of dark red vapour erupting from his chest. Laura jogs past him as he hits the floor, smoke trailing from the pistol in her hand.

“Thanks!” You shout. She nods in response.

You both direct your attention to the yacht. The older woman appears to be hefting the man up against her shoulder, muttering something to him in Russian. She catches sight of you, your eye-blasting fit having dissipated your invisibility, and raises a handgun, firing three quick shots. She has a good eye, but her attention is divided, and you know where she’s aiming before she does. You duck aside, the bullets passing harmlessly over your shoulder.

>FAILURE

Time to finish up here. You want to go home and sleep and never ever meet another Russian again.

Breaking into a run, you hurl yourself over the water. You hear a sharp, sudden exclamation in Russian – judging from the inflection, a swear of some kind – before you hit the deck, sliding a few inches along the damp metal. Your danger sense flares up immediately, cracking neural whip across your spine.

You duck, and a bullet streaks over you. The Russian swears again as you close in, her eyes narrowing. For someone in her situation, she’s surprisingly calm.

She throws her companion down as you sweep at her weapon, just about managing to step out of your reach. You bring your claws around for another slice, and they pass an inch from her belly, leaving a set of long, ragged tears along the breast of her suit. She snarls contemptuously, her canines showing, and lunges in, her shoulders falling into a tight stance reminiscent to you of a boxer’s gait.

Two fast jabs snap by you, missing by a matter of centimeters. Somehow, you sort of feel like you know where they’re gonna go before they get there. She brings her off-hand up to squeeze the trigger of her weapon at near point-blank range, and you just about manage to slip to one side, the bullet catching the hem of your coat as it flashes by.

She steps back slightly, her eyes unnervingly wide, and your danger sense spikes. She’s not doing anything, though, she’s just –

The pain explodes through your leg. You look down, and realize that the man she dropped is still conscious, and he’s pushed a thin knife straight through your calf. Blood pours from the wound, soaking straight through your jeans. You feel your leg buckling, the pain blooming through you, turning everything red…

The woman raises her gun, a predatory grin cutting across her face.

You feel your eyes burn.

The world turns blue as a beam of light erupts from your eyes, striking the woman across her midsection. She hurtles back, the force of the blast sending her sprawling across the deck, her weapon flying from her hand. She teeters clumsily at the edge of the yacht, her heels snapping against the cold metal, and falls straight down into the water.

The pain in your leg doubles, bursting from your throat as a deep, guttural raw.

The guy on the ground, that momentous asshole, just twisted the knife in your leg.

You feel the pain transform to anger, sparking a smelting fire at the core of your being, its heat churning through you, rising from your skin as a halo of thick, blisteringly hot steam. It crashes in your chest, anger looping around into hunger, hunger feeding the bellows of anger. You feel the wound in your leg beginning to cauterize, your body-heat turning the blade jammed in your flesh red hot.

Your jaw detaches with a sharp, visceral pop.

I wouldn't bother Wrenloft about it because he's not a dick, but Tripfags are cancer, seriously. One of the main reasons 4chan is such a cool place is because we're all equal under the sun, so we can treat others by what they actually say on a case by case basis.

It doesn't necessarily HAVE to be a bad thing, but when somebody uses a tripcode on an anonymous board it suggests the kind of rampant narcissism we find on places like reddit.

It's a bit different for quest threads though, so whatever.

>jj wants to be hardcore but wrenloft won't let him

Your stomach churns. It seethes with want, and suddenly – suddenly he’s all you can smell. His blood, flowing from the wounds you inflicted upon his knee and his fingertips. His flesh, peppered with gunsmoke and healthy eating and constant exertion. His bones, broken often but thick with marrow.

He tried to kill you, whines the animal, its fangs nibbling at your ears. He twisted the knife.

He’d do the same to you. Anyone would, if they had to. If they got the chance.

The fire in your belly screaming, you wrap your claws around his neck, heaving him up. His eyes display no fear – it’s more like disgust.

You stop. You push it back. You hold it down. You stand stock still, blood rushing, heart pounding insistently.

Grunting at the effort, he tears the knife from your leg, raising it aloft –

Gunfire barks over the water. His head snaps back, blood filling your eyes. His body loses all motive tension – he seems to turn to putty in your hands, the breath vanishing instantly from his lungs. Bobbing atop his neck, his head slumps awkwardly to one side, smoke pouring from the mess of his skull.

Your jaw reasserts itself into its proper shape, and you look back.

Laura stands upon the gangplank, smoke lingering upon the nozzle of her pistol. Her eyes bore into you.

She knows, whispers the animal. She knows what you were going to do.

He won't double cross us, he stands to profit immensely, especially seeing as were literally offering him half of NYC on a platter for his control if he skimps out on participating in one thing that evidently is bad enough for ALL of the mutants in the city to unite against...
