Hello all. Just as a notice for you, it is now halfway through the semester for me and I just took my final midterm. That means my schedule will be picking up, so I may slow down on threads. Note that I am not cancelling, quitting or any of that jazz. Just I may need to take a week off occasionally or run threads at strange times because school is important unless you all are going to pay for me to live in the style I am now. Pastebins are updated, Sarah and Bell both have stats…I think that’s it but I feel like I’m forgetting something. Anyway, hope you all enjoy todays run, shouldn’t be a break since I’m already settled.

>Money: $450
>Equipment: Tier 1 Assault Rifle. Tier 1 Armor (+2 wounds). Tier 1 Pistol. Standard Ammo (4). Tier 1 Knife. Tier 1 Bandolier (2). (Carry Capacity, 1 Ammo, 1 Misc) Tier 1 Rucksack. (Carry Capacity 4.) Clothes (3). Blanket (4). Quality Lighter. Tier 1 Med-kit. Tier 2 Med-kit. Tier 1 Toolkit.

Following your successful scouting mission of the city/town you were sent to, you spent the next day riding back, coming into Fort Riley tired and sore from riding so much. While horses were easier on your legs, your butt was chaffed and your crotch slightly sore. Morrigan and Mary went to the army post to turn in what you found, while sending everyone else back to MMS to get some sleep. The day after was a rest day as well, you spent what felt like nearly the entire day either wrapped up in your blankets or eating with the group because Morrigan made you, though you and Cath managed to clean all of the gear together anyway.

The next couple of days were pretty light as well, you spent some time at Doc Smiths and some time reading with Mary, she’s started to make you read different books and then asks you questions about them when you’re done. It’s not that hard and it seems to make her happy. Plus you get to learn stuff so it’s a win win for everyone.

Today is roughly a week past the scouting mission itself and having already ate breakfast you were currently…

Trauma, and no frame of reference on how to do it properly. The others have time and experience talking to people, they just suck at it. We don't and we suck at it.

>>38586985
Because only Cath has a social stat as bad as us.

Currently you were out about town with Nem. She said it was to “Help educate you in the ways of people and what they do.” How exactly you were supposed to do that when you were on top of a building after having climbed up the back of it using a drain pipe you weren’t sure, but she was in the process of educating you as you watched the market and the people moving around in it.

“Alright Will,” she says from beside you, “We’re going to start you out slowly. What do you think that guy does for a living?” She points to a man dressed in an army outfit carrying a weapon and walking about with a few more just like him.

“He’s a soldier?” you ask, slightly confused by the question.

“Good, good,” says Nem, with a smile, “I know it sounds silly, but watch how they walk, you can learn a lot about a person by the way they do.”

You glance at Nem, then back to the soldier and his comrades. You watch them as they walk for a little, trying to get a feel for what Nem is telling you.

“Now don’t get fed up if you don’t get it right away,” she says, “It takes a good long time before you can do it like I can.”

You nod, watching the soldiers until they disappear out of view on their patrol route.

“Now for something a little harder,” says Nem, before pointing at a man arguing with one of the shopkeepers in the market. The man is dressed in dirty coveralls and wearing grimy looking boots, clearly gesturing towards a set of tools the shopkeeper has on display.

“What do you think he does?”

You watch the man for a few more seconds before you let Nem know what you think.

“He’s a mechanic,” you say to her.

“What makes you say that?” she asks.

“Grease,” you say, pointing more towards the man’s boots, “Not dirt.”

“Heh, you’re pretty good at noticing stuff already aren’t you?” she says, before nodding her head, “Yup, he’s a mechanic, one of the one’s attached to the army post. Must’ve not gotten something he needed from back east if he’s shopping around here. If it’d been mud or dirt it would’ve definitely been a farmer, at least more than likely.”

You nod, watching as the man and the shopkeeper finally finish talking to each other and he hands over some money, the shopkeeper handing him the tools he was gesturing towards.

“Why were they talking?” you ask her as the man walks away.

“Ah, well some people like to argue about the price of stuff,” says Nem as you watch the man disappear, “Don’t try it with Koko though; she’ll just laugh at you.”

You nod your head, going back to watching the crowd. Nem asks you a few more people, most of them being farmers or “townsfolk” which means they don’t look all that dirty so they probably work in one of the shops around town themselves or just aren’t showing to many signs of their job if they do.

“So you think you’re getting a hang of it?” asks Nem after yet another townsperson.

You nod your head, you’re learning something and Nem seems to be happy, that’s a good thing in your book. Looking about, you see a woman leaning against the wall of one of the buildings nearby. She’s dressed differently than most of the people around, wearing a funny looking skirt and her top being like Bellona’s, showing a lot of her…breasts. You don’t think she’s a townsperson. Well, maybe she is? You could probably ask Nem.

You eventually decide that the lady isn’t a townsperson and that you should ask Nem what she does.

“Nem,” you say, drawing her attention so you can point at the lady, “What does she do?”

Nem turns her head to look at where you’re pointing.

“Which one Will?” she asks you as several people walk by the lady, who is smiling at most of them.

“The one against the wall,” you say.

“Hmm…oh,” says Nem, her face changing a bit, “She’s…she’s a prostitute.”

“What’s a prostitute?” you ask, not knowing the word.

“A prostitute is…” starts Nem, before stopping and apparently thinking.

“Do you remember that building Morrigan told you never to go to again?” she asks you.

You nod your head yes.

“That’s where the prostitutes work.”

“So…don’t talk to prostitutes?” you say, even as a man walks up to the lady, who smiles even bigger at him.

“That’s right,” says Nem as the lady puts her arm around the man and starts walking somewhere, “Don’t ever talk to a prostitute Will, it’s a whole lotta trouble.”

You nod, watching the lady and the man disappear just as you hear the rumble of something loud approaching.

“What the…?” says Nem, her head popping up a little bit more as the rumble gets closer and closer, drawing the attention of everybody once it gets close enough. It turns out that the rumble is caused by a convoy of trucks that rolls through the mostly open lane that usually serves as a two way street for traffic into and out of the market. In the back of the trucks you see men, lots of men. They’ve got weapons and are wearing armor, but they aren’t dressed like the soldiers you usually see about town or back at the old base you were at for a while.

“Shit, trouble,” says Nem, standing up and heading back towards the drainpipe as the trucks roll towards the army outpost, “Come on Will, we need to go…”

“We’re heading back to MMS,” says Nem, right before she starts to slide down the drainpipe like she’d done it a thousand times before. Which you guess might actually be the case given what she’s told you. You nod just before Nem disappears out of sight, then move over to the drainpipe and awkwardly slide/crawl/fall down it yourself. You’d never done it before so it was definitely not as good as Nems attempt. As you land on your butt you feel Nem trying to pick you up, so you stand and turn to follow her as she heads towards MMS once again.

“I hate it when this happens,” you hear Nem say as she nearly jogs through the mess of stopped people still staring at the place where the trucks had been. You hear the rumble caused by their engines slowly die off and you don’t hear any shooting, so you assume that it isn’t an attack, at least not yet.

“What’s happening?” you ask, following her as best you can. Despite her small size and shorter legs, Nem seems to be staying slow to let you keep up with her.

“Ugh…” says Nem as you approach the MMS building, “Let’s get back to the MMS building first, then I’ll tell you.”

You nod, though you’re pretty sure she doesn’t see it since she’s opening the door as she goes up the steps.

Mary and Cath are already in the lobby, both of them standing near the desk, Cath looking like she’d hurried downstairs to see what was going on.

“Nem, Will,” says Mary as you walk inside, “Good to see you, did you see what’s going on?”

“Yeah,” says Nem, walking up to the pair, “We saw what was going on, Mars rolled into town.”

“Mars?” asks Mary, “You’re sure?”

Nem nods her head. “It’s their uniforms at least, might be a sub-contractor or something but it’s more than likely them.”

You see Cath’s face darken a little as Nem speaks, Mary’s doing the same.

“Hopefully it’s not the same bunch as last time,” says Mary, to which Cath nods.

Currently you are…rather confused.

“What’s Mars?” you manage to ask before the conversation moves even farther into territory you don’t understand.

“Oh, right,” says Nem, turning back towards you, “You don’t know who Mars is.”

“Mars is a mercenary company like we are,” says Mary, “Except we’re a little more…selective about our clients.”

“Plus there are a bazillion of them,” says Nem, hopping up onto Mary’s desk, only to be quickly swatted down by Mary.

“Mars has a few dozen branches and thousands of men under its employ,” Mary says back, “And it deploys them in up to five hundred man formations, which is what sounds like just rolled in.”

“It’s probably for the town we just scouted out,” says Nem, looking out the door to the market which has subsided slightly from the hubbub.

“Makes sense,” says Mary, “They’ve only got a hundred soldiers or so here, probably not enough to take the town without prohibitive casualties.”

The door opens behind you all, revealing Bellona coming back in with a bag slung over her shoulder.

“What’s up?” she asks, setting the bag down by her side as she sees the four of you standing in the lobby.

“Competition rolled into town,” says Nem, “Mars Mercenary Corporation.”

“Is that bad for us?” asks Bellona.

“Probably not financially, at least for right now,” says Mary, leaning up against her desk, “But there’s a lot of them and not so many soldiers to watch them.”

“So pigs looking for a night out on the town,” says Bellona, her face turning harsh, “and they think anything with a pulse is fair game.”

“More or less,” says Nem, “Plus we had a run in with a specific bunch a while back, didn’t turn out so well for them. I doubt it’s the same group, but we should be careful.”

The door opens again, this time nearly slamming off its hinges as Morrigan storms in, her face like a thundercloud with Sarah following close behind.

“It’s time for Doc’s,” says Morrigan, as she storms towards the armory.

“Morrigan…” says Mary.

“It’s time for Doc’s!” says Morrigan again as she disappears into the armory and then comes back out sans her rifle, “I am not letting a bunch of rowdy fuckups who think they’re hot shit keep me away from Doc’s you hear me Mary?”

“You know what happened last time,” says Mary, not backing down from Morrigan’s temper, “If you do it at Doc’s place he’ll kick you out again.”

“I’m not going to go look for a fight,” says Morrigan, calming just slightly as Sarah comes back out of the armory minus her rifle, “But I want to be there if those fuckers start one.”

“It’s still not a good idea,” says Mary, “One night away from Doc’s won’t hurt anything.”

“I’m going,” says Morrigan, “Anybody who wants to come, we’re headed out now, there won’t be room later.”

You hear Mary sigh, Nem and Cath looking like they’re ready to go with Morrigan.

You…

You should probably go to Doc’s. Mary usually worries about Morrigan anyway and it seems like she’s extra grumpy today.

“You coming Billy?” asks Morrigan as she turns towards the door.

“Yes,” you say, moving to follow them.

“Wait,” says Mary, turning to set her book down, “I’m coming too then.”

“What?” says Morrigan, turning back towards you.

“I said I’m coming too,” Mary repeats, her face set as she takes a few steps and ends up next to you.

“Wait a minute,” says Morrigan, “just because Mars is here doesn’t mean…”

“It means you’re going to get into trouble again,” says Mary, “Like you always do. So I’m going too to keep at least Will out of it and hopefully you as well.”

Morrigan and Mary stare at each other for a few seconds before Morrigan breaks the glare.

“Fine,” she says, before spinning on her heel and heading towards the door once again, “But no interrupting my drinking.”

“I wouldn’t dream of it,” says Mary, following Morrigan, Bellona following you as you go after them.

“I’ll watch the building…” says Sarah, taking a seat behind Mary’s desk.

Your group starts out in two clumps, but you’re all together as you enter Doc’s. It’s already slightly crowded, many of the people you see there later at night already seated along with their drinks. The bar is strangely empty at the moment, but Morrigan is already striding towards it.

“Will you’re on the end,” says Mary, directing you to the middle spot on the bar, taking a seat next to you as Cath Morrigan and Nem take the seats to the other end.

“Pay up front today,” says Doc as you sit, a glass of milk already appearing in front of Mary, who slides over a dollar bill, “Everyone knows trouble’s coming.”

“Just hand over the booze Doc,” says Morrigan as she puts some money down on the table along with Nem.

“You Cath? Billy?” he asks, Cath shaking her head.

You decide that you should probably ask for something else seeing as how both Mary and Cath aren’t having the stuff you normally have. Bellona hasn’t ordered either and is watching you as you do.

“I’ll have some milk,” you say, to which Doc nods and pours you a glass like Mary’s.

“Probably a good choice buddy,” he says, as you hear a clatter and a big group of men comes into the bar, “Looks like trouble is here.”

You look at the men, they look mostly like normal guys except for the fact that they’re all wearing similar clothes yet distinctly aren’t soldiers. The bar quiets down a little bit as they enter, the regulars turning to look at the men as the men stare back at the regulars. One of the men seems to be in charge, at least it seems that way as he points to one of the empty tables and the bar and the rest follow his directions. Most of them pile around the table, the rest take seats at the bar.

All except for him, he’s left standing with no additional seats immediately available.

He turns to look at you, as his men settle in at the bar and begin to order drinks from Doc, they seem to be much more polite than everyone thought they were going to be.

“Think you might give up your seat there kid?” he asks you, drawing Mary’s attention, “You don’t look like you belong with those ladies.”

“Oh but he is,” says Mary before you can reply, leaning over so that she’s pressed up against your back, the same warm things from before against you as well “and we don’t want him to leave.” You look over and see her smiling at the man, though you can’t tell if it’s a normal smile or not.

The man looks at you as you look back at him.

“If that’s so you’re a lucky man,” he says, “mind if I scoot in next to my men then?” He gestures towards the bar and the space between the chairs. You nod and get the idea, scooting over a little as the man beside him does the same, leaving enough room for the leader to stand in between you.

“Can I get ya Mac?” asks Doc as he finishes serving the rest of the men.

“Whiskey, straight,” says the man, pushing forward some money towards Doc, who promptly takes the money before pouring the man a small glass of the brown liquid.

The man nods and takes a sip of his drink before letting out a sigh. You turn back to your own drink and look down to see if Morrigan is doing ok, she seems to be at least.

“So how did you end up with five nice ladies like that,” asks the man casually, turning to look at you, “I don’t think you could pick up one of them, much less all of them.”

You look at the man, slightly confused by his sentence. Of course you couldn’t pick all of them up, that’d be too hard for anybody. You probably couldn’t pick up Cath or Bellona either, they’re bigger than you are. You might be able to pick up Morrigan or Mary, but it’d probably be hard. There was one more though that you could…

“I could pick up Nem,” you tell the man, which gets you a small snort from Mary, “But the army put me with MMS.”

The man turns to look at you, his eyebrow raised at your answer.

“You’re one of those kids aren’t you,” he says, turning fully to look at you, “You got rescued and then they sent you back out here.”

You nod at the man, surprised a little by his knowledge.

“Tell you what kid, if you ever get tired of the little leagues, you come see us alright?” he says to you.

I think it'll actually be okay.

We're talking to their leader, and he doesn't seem interested in a fight. And hopefully can keep his men in line.

He picked up on us being a child soldier pretty quick. I don't think he's going to push too hard, or cause trouble for our crew when he's right next to a potentially unstable element. Nobody really wants to fuck with the crazy guy.

“…I like MMS,” you say to the man.

He glances behind you and gives you a grin.

“To be honest kid I’m sure I would too,” he says, tipping his drink towards you before downing it and setting it back on the bar, “Of course I’m pretty sure you and I wouldn’t like it for the same reasons, but that’s how life works.”

You stare at the man, confused. Why wouldn’t you like it for the same reasons? Everyone’s nice, they feed you, give you clothes and blankets and promised not to hit OR shoot you. How else could you like it?

You turn back to your drink and take a sip of the cold milk before turning to look at Mary, who happens to be smiling.

“Good job Will,” she says, reaching out and rubbing the top of your head, “I think we got lucky with you.”

You look at Mary, a little confused by the act and what she said. How did they get lucky with you? You didn’t do anything did you?

She just smiles at the look on your face, leaning back towards her drink. “Don’t think too hard about it Will,” she says, “It isn’t that hard.”

You look at her, still confused and open your mouth, before closing it again. Maybe it will come to you if you don’t think too hard.

Nearly an hour later you still haven’t figured it out, though your milk is gone and they bar has returned to its normal volume, the man joining in with the rest of his men as they all drink lots of stuff, seemingly making Doc very happy. Morrigan has been drinking a lot too, as you notice when her arms suddenly land over your shoulders and her drunk head lands on your shoulder, surprising you.

“You’re crazy Billy, you know that?” she says, her voice not as bad as before but still a little loopy sounding, “You come in here and you don’t say boo to a fucking goose. Don’t ask for nothing but some food and a place to sleep. But you’re good in a fight, fix our shit and can drink people under the table. Then you say you like us for it,” She lets out a hiccup as Mary looks on in surprise, “You’re a good kid.”

“Morrigan…” says Mary, reaching for your drunk boss, but Morrigan is having none of it.

“No Mary,” she says, turning to face her though still holding onto you, “Gotta tell Will he’s a good kid fore I forget.”

“I think he gets it,” says Mary with a forced smile, pulling Morrigan off of you gently, “You should sit back down.”

Morrigan grumbles at this, but lets Mary lead her back to the end of the bar.

“Hey kid,” says a voice from beside you, drawing your attention.

You turn and see one of the other men from the group beside you, his face rather close.

“He’ll pay you fifty bucks,” says the leader, suddenly standing next to the man, “And never bother you again.”

“Yeah…” says the man, fishing some money out and placing it on the table, “Fifty bucks and all you gotta do is beat me in a drinking contest.”

You feel a presence behind you and turn to see Bellona, a smile on her face as she leans over and wraps her arms around your shoulders.

“Prepare to pay up,” she says, “Will here could drink almost all of you under without a sweat, couldn’t you Will?”

You look at Bellona, confused, only to hear a grunt beside you as Cath nudges her to the side so she can stand next to you as well. Bellona just grins at her, leaning against the bar as more and more men start to gather around you, some of them chanting “drink, drink, drink,”

‘What do you say kid?” asks the commander with a grin, “Fifty bucks a man, I’ll make sure they pay up.”

You’re a little confused about what’s going on and there are a lot of people around, so you…

There are a lot of people around…but Cath and Bellona are right behind you. You’ll be ok right?

“Ok,” you say, to which there’s suddenly a cheer from most of the soldiers around you and a few of the regular people as well.

“Hey bartender!” yells the leader, Doc appearing with three bottles of the brown liquid already.

“I don’t think we’re going to need that much…” says the guy sitting across from you as people start to pour drinks for you.

“You might not,” says Doc with a smile, “But he will.”

“Alright fella’s, nice and even ok?” says the leader, “Now, first shot!”

With a cheer from the soldiers you take a drink along with the other man, the liquid sliding warmly down your throat and into your stomach. He smiles at you as you set your glass down.

“Ready to lose?” he asks you.

You just shake your head no.

“We’ll you’re going to,” he says, already throwing back his second drink.

You follow along, cheers ringing out with every drink as Bellona and Cath lean up against you from behind.

Several hours and many bottles later, your ninth opponent slumps down onto the bar in defeat. The picture is only slightly different than before, Nem now sitting between the two stools on the bar pouring each drink, happily being fed bottles by Doc as he rakes in piles of money as the people watching you drink take drinks themselves.

You do admittedly feel very warm after having so much of it to drink though, the combined press of Bellona and Cath against your sides not helping in the least. They’ve both had a few drinks as well by this point and seem to be leaning closer by the minute. Morrigan is also drunk, leaning against Cath as she cheers and hollers with the rest of the crowd. Mary is watching over all of you from behind, though you’ve started to hear her make disapproving noises with each drink.

As the last man is hauled away, the leader takes his seat as you look at him.

“You’re one hell of a drinker kid,” he says, “Almost enough I’d give it a try, but I don’t think it’d be fair at this point.”

You nod at him, blinking your eyes as your mind continues to feel slightly fuzzy.

“Here’s your money,” he says, holding out a stack of bills, “I’ll collect from them tomorrow. See you around.”

With that the crowd disperses, lots of loud talking as you feel slightly dizzy for the first time, though Cath and Bellona are currently keeping you upright.

“That was fuckin amazin!” says Morrigan, now leaning against the bar in front of you, “Drank nine guys under the table!”

“Yeah Will great job!” says Nem from the bar, pouring back the last of one of the bottles herself.

“I knew you could do it,” says Bellona with a grin from beside you, leaning close.

Cath doesn’t say anything like usual, but you can feel her lean against you like Bellona does.

“That was crazy Will,” says Mary, though not happily like normal, “You should be careful about drinking so much.”

You turn and blink at her, your mind not quite processing so well for some reason.

“Ah it’s fine,” says Morrigan, “We’re here for him.”

You nod at that. MMS is here…you like it.

“Be that as it may,” says Mary, “We should still go home, most of you are going to have one heck of a hangover tomorrow.”

Everyone grumbles but they all stand up, so you follow.

At least you try to, Bellona and Cath catch you as you stumble.

“Looks like Will here finally got drunk,” says Bellona.

“He drank more than nine other dudes Bell!” says Nem, “Of course he got drunk!”

“M okay…” you try to say, but the words don’t come out right.

“No you aren’t Billy!” says Morrigan from beside you as Cath and Bellona help you walk outside, “You drank way too much to be okay, I’d be on the ground if I drank that much.”

You shake your, wondering why you feel so funny as you walk back to MMS.

Suddenly you look up and you’re in the lobby, arms around Bellona and Cath with money still in your hand.

Hey…you’ve got money because of MMS. You should…you should share it right? Or is this yours? You forget.

Meanwhile Bellona and Cath are glaring at each other as they stand there in the lobby, the stairs not wide enough for both of them to carry you upstairs at the same time.

You focus very carefully on the money in your hand. It seems to be very important right now for some reason.

“Mary,” you say slowly causing the long haired woman to turn around.

“What Will?” she asks.

“Money for erryone…” you say, your words slurring slightly as you hold out the money you won.

“Will…” says Mary sounding concern.

“Helped me…win,” you say, slowly slipping out of both Cath and Bellona’s arms as you head for the stairs. They both look surprised by your action, but you’re mostly focused on the stairs as you wobble up them. One step…one foot. Thankfully the stairs have a wall on one side so you can mostly slide up them.

Bellona and Cath follow you closely as you slowly make your way up the stairs and down the hall, finally collapsing onto the bed in your room, still fully clothed. You hear both of them enter, some whispering going on that you can’t make out as someone tugs off your boots and another person undoes your pistol belt. Finally someone lifts up your head and places the pillow underneath it as your multiple sets of blankets fall over you and you drift off into a deep sleep.

Give him ptsd-tier freakouts and really mundane triggers. Everywhere. His entire existence is walking on eggshells now.

Blow off one of his legs. He'll still try his damnest to help MMS; and they'll have to come home every mission to his over eager questions and him wanting to help.

Make him get into some big misunderstaning in the middle of town, something that wasn't his fault. This results in the entire town distrusting him; to the point where most people despise him. His only respite is in MMS, but even they are having a tough time believing him.

Have his blankets go up in a fire.

Have him get abducted by raiders, and he slowly sinks back to his terrible existence he had back at the compound.

Have his new family at MMS go up in a fire.
