Last time you were in for quite a shock. The arrival of the idol, Mai Aihara, heralded a number of strange and terrifying events in the town of Osataka. People disappearing and acting against their natural inclinations, a bizarre festival and inter scholastic competition series, the near-dissolution of the student council, and the arrival of a set of magical girls gunning directly for Maiden White. Desperately in need of answers, Makoto and his remaining allies have rescued Yui's brother, Naoki Oomura, from the clutches of these villainous girls.

You are Makoto Kiryoka; a teenage boy with a penchant for getting into strange situations. You bear the power of the Mahou Shoujo against the corrupted souls that seek to terrorise the innocent.
>>
just got a a quick poll for people, since I hope we'll get to her this thread

"Is he... okay?" You ask cautiously, gazing at the unconscious boy, splayed out on your couch with a blank and listless expression plastering his face.

"Seems fine to me," Yuuki comments, "he just looks stupid." After rescuing him from the manor, you dragged the comatose Naoki Oomura back to your place without issue and set him up on the couch until he broke from this strange trance. Shun, Yuuki, and yourself are patiently waiting for him to recover and respond. Earlier you scanned him for any signs of mind control, or whatever it was that made Yui suddenly change, but since Naoki lacks a focus and as such you see nothing on him. Even his brain seems devoid of any alteration, unlike the close encounters Shun and Yuuki experienced.

"They probably didn't see the need to erase his memories if they were planning on holding him." Yuuki proposes, fiddling with a pair of futuristic goggles over his face. They click and jutter at his touch, bathing Naoki in a variety of strange lights and patterns.

"That's good for us," You remark, "He might remember his encounter more clearly." Shun smiles and nods to you. That's some progress at least; you're in dire need of an explanation about these girls.

"I suppose, but that raises the question of why bother keeping him?" Yuuki asks, frowning at the unconscious man. "If they hypnotised the rest of the council and left them alone, what makes Naoki so special that they'd need to keep him in a trance?" He continues. Noaki shivers for a second before evoking a sharp grunt and mumble. His eyelids flutter briefly. Maybe you'll get an answer soon.

"Aigh, what... where am I?" He moans, blinking awake with a hand on his forehead.

so far she and her group have removed from at least two people (Hiroko and Yui) everything that makes them who they are. Their drive, their wants, their individuality. Unless we save them, those two and anybody else Mai's group brainwashes is no longer human. There is no Justice in letting them go free after that, because anybody who would do that to another person is irredeemably evil. I would be ok with throwing her in solitary for the rest of her life too, but we can't, so death is the only option

There's no justice in killing either. Dont mistake taking the lesser of two evils for righteousness. You're priority should be getting the two hostages back and safe, everything else is secondary.

Oh but there is. See, Justice doesn't kill people. It punishes and gives chance to make amends for sins, but it only kills if there is no other option.

Ah, if only we could make that bitch a prinny, make her say "dood" at the end of every line as she serves every desire of those she brainwashed for a negative wage. Now that's justice!
>>
>>38609324
no, saving them is still priority number 1. But there is no way in hell I'm letting anybody depraved enough to turn other human beings into literally soulless automatons live to do it again. That is straight up sociopathy, and because all the crimes they've been doing are supernatural, we can't just jail them or put them in a mental institution. Its either kill them or risk more people being hurt or killed. Or brainwash them, but then we're just as fucked up as them.
>>
>>38609401
sometimes Justice is killing people
>>
>>38609403
They probably need their fetters to do all the supernal shit. Just take those and have robo seal them away. Then put in a nice shock collar that goes off when they don't do what we and those they brainwashed say (with the exception of killing themselves).

>>38609436
You just let that hateboner do all the thinking for ya man. Killing is a waste, I want a shiny new slave.
>>
>>38609403
see >>38609401
Justice doesn't kill.
He's right though, we can ask them to make amends.
It's already established that robo can take away their magic. De-power them, arrest them, whatever, but you are unjust if you just go weapons hot without even knowing their motivation, and nearly as bad as them.
>>
>>38609465
even without their fetters, they're still extremely smart, dangerous individuals. But enslaving them is almost as evil as what they are doing. Killing them is in no way a good option, but it is the best option unless Qyubey has the group slip up and commit a mundane crime like murder or kidnapping (technically they haven't, because bullshit magic brainwashing). At least if we kill them only we suffer the bad karma, rather than everyone who participates in enslaving them

>>38609487
anon, what motivation could justify unmaking a person? and how could you possibly make ammends for that?
>>
>>38609558
Look closely and you'll notice that we've also unmade people. They probably think our purification is exactly that. Think about how wistful momoko was when looking at the statues, think about how much yui wanted to keep her magic, she claimed it was part of her.

Claim up and down all you want that killing them is somehow okay, but if you kill them, you are no better than them and their brainwashing. If you are just, you can't do either.

"Rise and shine, Oomura." You say to Naoki with a smile. He cradles his head with one hand, slowly rising with a groggy look on his face.

"It feels like I've been... wait, what day is it?" He asks suddenly, glancing at the window. It's past midday and just into the afternoon.

"It's Monday." You tell him. He scratches his cheek with a sheepish look.

"That's quite a bender, even for me." He chuckles before noticing his surroundings in more detail, along with Shun and the goggle-clad Yuuki. "Aaand you people aren't our regular maids." He takes a better look at each of you, but only stops to study your face. "I know you, don't I?"

"Probably. I'm a friend of Yui." You say, your face twisting into a frown. "Something terrible has happened. I don't know how or why, but I think Yui's been brainwashed by some awful people, and they stuck you in some sort of coma. Please," you clap your hands together, "I need your help. Anything, anything at all that you can remember." You plead to him. He thinks for a moment, tapping his forehead.

"I... do remember." He mutters. "One of Yui's old school friends; May, Mai, Mao, something, she came by to visit. As far as I recall, they had a falling out some years ago, though I don't know why." He explains, crossing his legs on the couch. "Not that it mattered, I told her to get lost or talk to Yui first. And then..." He places a hand on his head for a second.

"Ugh, that can't be right." He mutters.

"What?" The three of you ask.

"Okay, I'm pretty sure it didn't go down like this, but I swear she... at least I remember her pulling some kind of object out of her phone. A weapon, I think..." He iterates, mimicking some kind of gesture. "There more girls, and then everything goes black.*sigh* Sorry, I'm not trying to be difficult, that's really what I remember. I should really stop drinking..." He mumbles.

> Y-Yeah...
> It's useful anyway. Thank you.

>>
>>38609643
>> It's useful anyway. Thank you.
>>Write in: what can you tell us about Mai?
>>
>>38609607
I am not going to try and say that purification is Just in any way. It lets people control themselves, but we don't know the cost to who they are.

But I believe it is better to kill someone than brainwash them. I've seen people who control and manipulate others, and Yui and Hiroko are pretty much acting the same as someone who's been in a toxic relationship for months or years. And I've had to help friends back from that point. trust me, the people who do this kind of thing deserve death, no matter what motivation they claim to have
>>
>>38609558
Since brainwashing is essentially enslavement of the highest order it only makes sense that they atone by getting as good as they gave. It won't be forever and you couldn't ask them for totally unreasonable things like sex or suicide of course, that'd just be unfair (unless they did such things with the brainwashed, then they get to whore themselves out for their master's profit for that special kind of evil). Thus, I propose we enslave them for twice as long as they brainwashed those under their control.

For example, if by the end of this Yui was brainwashed for 2 weeks, Mai and her posse will be her slaves for a month (i.e. 4 weeks). That should make amends and teach them a lesson they won't soon forget.

>>38609643
>I think she was a magical girl
>What can you tell us about Mai? Anything would be useful.
>>
>>38609837
anon, slavery is not Justice, slavery is unquestionable evil
>>
>>38609802
Steve?

Better or not, it's still deplorable, and you are immediately unjust for trying it. Do the right thing.
>>
>>38609865
Eye for an eye anon. If you enslave someone you ought experience the suffering of those you held in bondage. That should teach you to never do such a thing ever again. You'd never get enslaved if you didn't enslave someone else beforehand. Crimes demand proportionate restitution. If you steal, you must return that which you stole plus a bit extra for the pain, suffering, and injustice you inflicted upon another. This is so that you learn a lesson.

Besides, what the hell do you think prison is? You work for 25 cents an hour if you want more than a few shitty meals and a dank cell. How's that any different from slavery? Same with locking a dude in a dank cell. How's that nice? How's that make restitution to the victim? What do they get out of it? Unless it's the sweet, sweet satisfaction of "revenge" (which isn't really justice) I'm just not seeing how locking a dude up really helps matters.
>>
>>38609872
the right thing is making sure they never hurt anyone again. Removing their fetters means that brainwashing takes months rather than minutes, but slowing the process doesn't stop it. Doing anything to 'teach them a lesson' might not work. But killing is bad karma.

We need to send them to Robo-san. He can lock them away, and they can live out their lives in a space prison, unable to do damage to anything again
>>
>>38609978
anon, eye for an eye is almost as far from the idea of justice you can get. what you suggested is two eyes for an eye, which is even worse
>>
I'm not sure if its the arc or the argument about killing people, but don't we usually get a couple more anons in here by now?
>>
>>38610167
I think it's the time of day or something.
>>
>>38610070
How? They brainwashed some folk. That's even worse than slavery. Since it wouldn't really be just to simply brainwash them right back we gotta settle for the next best thing, which in this case is slavery.

That's what they deserve, the highest of sins must be repaid with the most extreme restitution. Besides, locking them up for life in robo-san's space prison is essentially no different from killing them. It's a cheap cop-out, like saying that you've never killed anyone yourself and thus are innocent, yet you did give money and plenty of orders for others to dirty their hands for your goals. Yeah, doesn't really work like that. And just locking them away does little to actually reform them, it'd just drive em' insane. Solitary confinement really fucks you up in the head.

"So what can you tell us about Mai? Anything would be useful." You say.

"Hm, not much to tell. She's was Yui's friend in middle school, practically inseparable, which was strange consdering they were almost exact opposites," he explains, thinking back, "Yui was pretty antisocial, but Mai was incredibly outgoing. And loud, I definitely remember that. It was good for her, I think."

"But, once they reached high school, something happened. Yui wouldn't tell me but I think it had something to do with her changing schools. She didn't want to mention Mai after that." He frowns and looks up. "But if she's responsible for hurting my little sister, you can be damn sure she's not going to get away with it." He seethes, slamming his hands together. Brotherly love at work, it seems. He breaks from his rage for a moment to look at you.

"Ah, right, Makoto wasn't it?" He asks with a smile. You nod back, not seeing a reason to lie here. "I have you to thank for freeing me, so I really should thank you."

"Ah, that's fine." You say, waving your hand and grinning. "Any help in rescuing Yui is all I need." You feel his hand at your cheek for a second and he leans in.

"You're not exactly my type, but here." He says, before kissing you full on the mouth.

"MMFH!?" You screech through the kiss, your eyes going wide as Naoki closes his. Shun stumbles back and Yuuki gapes. His lips are soft, but entirely different from the girls you've kissed. He releases you fairly quickly, letting you sizzle on the couch, your eye twitching.

"I know a lot of girls who'd be pretty jealous of you right now, but don't brag about it, okay?" He asks with a self-satisfied grin. That was...

You don't really have an opinion about what just happened; you're pretty stunned yourself. Your first kiss with actual guy. He's still smirking, but you grit your teeth and ball your fist.

"JERK!" You call out, punching him right in the cheek. He sails over the couch, landing next to Shun, in a heap. You pant and stare him down. "H-How about you don't do that again, and we focus on rescuing your sister?" You say frantically, pointing a finger at him. His head pokes up from behind the couch.

"That's a bit closer to my type." He comments with a wink. You cough and falter. What the hell is with this guy!? Maybe he's a masochist or something...

"...Okay, let's go save Yui!" Shun announces, evidently just trying to ignore the entire affair.

"Speaking of which, I haven't thanked you either." Naoki says, sliding up behind Shun. She shivers.

"L-LET'S GO!" She says, dragging you and Yuuki out the door, very mechanically.

The four of your heads poke out of the bushes near Osataka High, one at a time. The inter-school competitions are still going, though nearing the end of the day, it seems. The festivities are due to last all week, so whatever Mai is planning is probably going to finish in that timespan. You grind your teeth just thinking about that girl and what she's done gets your blood boiling like nothing else. Shun places a hand on your shoulder and smiles, bringing you back down. At least you have her to ground you right now.

"Alright, so what's the plan?" Shun asks.

"We need some way to neutralise Mai, but we're hideously under-advised." Yuuki comments, tapping at a holographic screen. "Musume is in repairs but won't be ready for a while." Naoki gives him a strange look when he says that, along with a stranger look at the holographic projection.

"Is simply beating her down an option?" Shun asks, slapping her fist into her hand.

"I guess," he groans, "but I'm not sure about how well that'd work against someone like her."

"Why not? She's a girl like any other." Naoki comments, stepping out of the bushes. Yuuki panics as he breaks cover but quickly realises the bushes were pointless in the first place.

"Makoto, how do you wanna proceed?"

I agree we shouldn't want to kill them we do want to stop them.
They may not fully realize what they have done just like our purification may have horrible mental side effects we are blind to.
Maybe this is all based on a huge snowball of misunderstandings.
Maybe they can be redeemed.
we should save our friends and any innocents.
and if possible we should turn them to the path of justice and away from the dark road they walk.
They may even help us if we relay are doing something to justify them thinking of us as a monster.
I honestly believe we both probably need each other to achieve Justice. Though that has lots of metagaming.

"Mai comes later, let's find Yui first." You decide. The rest of your party agrees. Defeating Mai and her goons might be your ultimate goal, but you'll need allies first. Hiroko and Yui must be freed.

The four of you enter the school and pass mostly unaware; most students are absorbed in their own activities. Naoki manages to attract a small following of girls in the time it takes for you to locate his sister though. She was certainly right about the playboy thing...

You can see Yui in the hall ahead of you, with Hiroko at her side. Yui is staring out the window at the arena flanking the field, but Hiroko is facing the other way, and she'll be the first to see if you jump the two of them. Unfortunately the hallway isn't empty, so if you assault them as Maiden White you're sure to be seen. You can probably find somewhere to change, but your magical girl form itself is likely to be caught. You don't know if you'll be able to heal them without your powers though...

"I just don't see why we can't induce another emotion." You hear Yui ask Hiroko.

"If love could solve it, you'd have probably caused it by now." Hiroko comments back, opening up a can of soft drink. "Unless he can awaken fully, I don't think Makoto will ever realise what he's actually doing to people."

"But..." She turns to Hiroko but pauses. "I can't stand him looking at me like that." Hiroko frowns.

"I know it's hard, but you're the best chance we have to help him. Don't worry; between the two of us and Mai, it won't be long at all. Then everything can go back to normal. Black pepper, remember?" She puts a hand on Yui's shoulder, smiling to her. She still looks upset though.

>Yeah, I have a tone I'm keeping. It may dip into darker territory, but I'm going to keep a generally light atmosphere by having characters joke and bicker back and forth. Don't worry, it's been one thread. You haven't scratched the surface of the truth yet.

>You haven't scratched the surface of the truth yet.

Yay, thread after thread of soul-crushing despair kept 'light' with random banter
>>
>>38611751
No, anon, The quest was always lighthearted when we used our heads and maybe our dicks.
Every time we had an emotional outburst not tempered by anything else, the tone has turned bad, someone has gotten hurt, or we've lost a friend. Can you guys learn your goddamn lesson now?

Our powers and purification is even about not letting people run away with their emotions. Corruption is their untempered emotional outbursts and that's what we've been stopping, why are we so stupid as to ignore this?
>>
>>38611866
Because 99 percent of the world population is stupid. Most people would rather die than think, in fact they do.
>>
>>38611714
eh, emotional outbursts might not be the best choice, but they make the most sense from an in-character perspective. most people wouldn't stay clear-headed at the thought of their friends or loved ones being brainwashed, much less actually seeing the effects
>>
>>38611891
See I would, but that's just me. I've read enough stories both real and fictional to know that letting your emotions get the better of you in critical situations almost always leads to even greater disaster. As I don't want to end up like the people in those stories, I'd keep a level head. But hey, I'm weird.
>>
>>38611891
Staying clear headed is how we did thing in-character whenever we had loved ones in danger before! We saved Yui that way once, we lost Hiroko by failing to. It's been this way since /d/
>>
>>38611965
And now we're gonna lose Yui. Oh well, I'd like to believe that would teach the idiots their lesson, but no matter what the only lesson we learn from history is that nobody learns their lesson from history.

"Pepper again," Yuuki mutters, "Didn't that woman back at the manor say something about black pepper?" He asks Shun. She nods back, and even Naoki looks contemplative.

"It... sounds familiar." He says, squinting at the pair.

"Black pepper, red pepper, bell pepper, I don't care!" You say, darting out from your hiding spot. Yuuki reaches for your but you evade his fingers deftly. You leap out into the hallway, untransformed, and run at the pair of them, shouting out "YUI! HIROKO!" The two of them flinch, and Hiroko drops her soda as they see you run at them.

"Makoto!?" They shout back. You spread your arms and leap at her, catching Yui in your grip. She seems to panic and looks down at you burying your face into her.

"Don't be like this! Come back to us, please Yui." You plead, trying to spread your power. With the combination of your frantic emotions and the lack of a proper form, your spreading is erratic at best. At worst, you feel... strange. Angry. The two girls stare at you for a second before glancing at each other.

"...Get off me, Makoto." Yui says, pushing you away with a frown. You step back in disbelief; how far does this brainwashing go!? You feel your teeth grinding angrily.

"Why, why is Mai doing this to you?" You ask, pleading for an answer. Yui continues to stare at you, sweating and glancing away from your sight.

"She's not doing anything to me. It's you I can't trust." She states, pointing at you. Hiroko slaps her on the shoulder, as if to encourage her. You can't even fathom the rage you're feeling right now. Mai, pepper, whoever's responsible is going to pay. Your vision starts to feel blurry and your garter feels hot for some reason. There's something inside you just itching to get out, and you're seriously about to let it...

[1/2]
>>
>>38612293

At least until Shun walks over and slaps her.

"Yui, what the hell is wrong with you!?" She calls out, surprising everyone for a second. Naoki and Yuuki are close behind. She brings a hand to her raw cheek and glances at you. Your anger has dropped a little, which causes her to shiver.

"We were so close." She mumbles to herself, glancing at Shun with tears in her eyes, "I can't take this..." She turns on her heel and runs away.

"Agh, Yui!" Hiroko calls out after her, chasing her down the hall. The rest of you start to move when Hiroko turns about face and raises her hands. From her fingertips, a spray of water ejects, hitting the floor at the feet of your group. Some people in the hallway gasp as the liquid washes over your group. Her eyes flash white and she snaps her fingers; instantly, the water freezes in place, forming shackles of ice around your legs.

"What!?" You blurt out as the four of you collapse the floor. With your group momentarily delayed, Hiroko dashes off down the hallway after Yui. You try and drag yourself but the ice is too thick. Shun bashes at the ice on her legs and Yuuki seems to deploy some kind of saw tool tool from his arm, cutting away at that which binds him.

"Did that girl just shoot ice from her hands?" Naoki mumbles, his eyes wide and body stunned.

"But how did she do it without transforming?" Shun gasps, finally managing to wedge her ankles free. "That's impossible, you can't use your powers in your regular body!" Yuuki snaps the ice from his feet and quickly moves to free you, whilst Shun tries to assist Naoki, still in utter shock like most of the people in the hallway. You read her focus as she fled; she was definitely not transformed but she could still use her powers, and to a greater degree than you've ever seen her capable of. There was corruption inside her, giving her this power, you just know it.

I'm not even confident mind manipulation is what's happening here. their powers could easily be something else that they're playing up like mind manipulation.
We have dangerously little data about what we're up against, and every time I've voted to try and find out more, I get outvoted in favor of doing something unsafe and getting our shit ruined. We need information. We NEED it. we're at an obviously huge disadvantage without it
I'm starting to think it's not even mind control at all. I don't think it's dopplegangers, so possibly a honey trap or a capture ploy. what if the hostages arent the target, but us?
>>
>>38612377
Its not that I don't trust Qyubey, but I am really mad at him.

We knew that we couldn't tell a lot of people about our powers, so we tried to keep our group close-knit and everything a secret. We screwed up with Hiroko, and we knew it. But Yui was someone we'd been close to all quest, someone we trusted, someone we loved. The way this whole thing went down doesn't feel like villains targeting one of our loved ones, it feels like a punishment for trusting people at all
>>

Yui had the things she loved removed from her, it's probably mental or spiritual tinkering that's happening here.

>>38612334
I see, so their plan is to force Makoto into an emotional nadir and make him flip out for power Griffith style, which would likely completely corrupt him or something else that's really bad. Not a bad plan, no wonder Hiroko said Yui was their best card. One of the best ways to break someone is to take everyone and everything they love away.

The second Yuuki releases you from Hiroko's icy grasp, you're off again.

"Dammit Makoto, just wait for us!" Yuuki calls out after you, but you're already gone. You round the corner and follow the pair's trail, passing by startled students as you wind through the hallways and down the staircases. The sight of flapping double doors catches your sight and you slam them open, leading into an auditorium. A basketball game is going on, but that isn't your concern. Yui and Hiroko are standing on the other side of the court, out of breath, next to Mai, dressed in a basketball outfit. She notices you, huffing and puffing, and takes a few steps to stand between you and the two girls, crossing her arms stoically.

"Makoto, what's up?" She asks, stepping in front of the two girls.

"Don't give me that." You spit at her, walking through the court. She takes a step back and frowns as you draw closer, and you grab her by the collar. "What did you do to Yui?" You ask. She glances back at Yui, who looks at her with concern in turn.

"I... just did what had to be done." She says, squinting her eyes back to you. "...But I can reverse it."

"Reverse it!?" You shout, throwing her back. She stumbles but keeps her footing. With one foot she kicks at the floor, and with a hand she points at you.

"I challenge you to a competition of magical girls, a fair fight between your group and mine! If you win, I'll put everything back to normal and you can do whatever you want to me." She says, placing a hand on her chest. "But if we win, you'll give up being Maiden White!" She demands, smiling confidently to herself.

I have tried to be on your side through this but you keep making things worse for your credibility.

I trust that you are trying and are being consistent but you know everything that is happening and why. Then you look at what we know and assume a lot of things can be figured out but what you think can be learned from a subset of the truth and what can be learned in practice are very different. In short you overestimate what we can do with what we have.

Not to mention Yui nit talking to us if she is free and safe is totally unbelievable. Even with your word of god that there is no MC it is still massively out of character and confusing. Even if she is faking and the mask is slipping like some have said that doesn't explain why she wont just talk to us.
>>
>>38613291
>>38613237
There's all different.
Attacking here probably means that either there might end up being a fight right there on the basketball court, or that we'd get CC'd while they fell back.
Agreeing means there'd be a fight scheduled for later.
Refusal is a wildcard, because we still don't know what her game is. There's no reason to assume with certainty that Mai would attack or brainwash Makoto right there on the basketball court.
And attempting to reason is a refusal with a non-hostile alternative proposal tacked on.
>>
>>38613256
Gotta agree, mindcontrolling villains are a delicate thing to handle.

Magical girls who are in control of their corruption and are way stronger than the small fry we had so far, I ciuld have understood.

But magical girls who show up, simply convert everyone we know to their side with a handwave, can manipulate memory and alter personalities via spiritual implants (structures)? No thanks

"K-Killed-?" She takes a step back in surprise. "There's no need to go that far. I just need to stop you." She reiterates, waving her hands.

"You talk about a fair fight, but isn't it five-to-one?" You point out.

"I don't intend to make you fight your underlings, Makoto," she points back at Yui and Hiroko, "I'm not that way. What I propose are a series of one-on-one battles, only one fighter from each, in the arena outside." She leads you over to a window and points to the stadium flanking the field.

"We fight until one side surrenders, gets knocked out of bounds, or passes out. One fight a day, plenty of time to rest and prepare yourself to fight at full power! Pretty simple." She shrugs. Your glare makes her flinch though.

"And why do you want me to stop being Maiden White? I don't get why you're doing this to me!" You demand to know.

"Because I have to stop you, Makoto, one way another, whatever it takes!" She claims, clenching her fist. That... takes you a second to process.

Two possibilities I can think off:

1. Mai wants back the Yui she knew when they were younger. She doesn't understand that Yui took an interest in something so "unnatural" as crossdressing. Now that she has Yui in her grasp, she wants to "protect" her from Makoto.

2. Mai and her friends think that instead of purifying them, Makoto steals their foci's power for himself. Thery think that Makoto wants to be some uber-magical girl or whatever.
>>
>>38613862

Purifying actually removes a core part of the person's personality, essentially rendering them a completely different person pre-purification. Shun is without part of herself, and she wishes to get it back, which is why she's so insistent on getting the foci back.

The magical girls use structures to contain the corruption, essentially acting as self control. They don't revel in excess that their foci caused, but instead confront it and become one with it, accepting it as part of themselves (Think persona 4)

Anyway, from their PoV we are mindraping people, and they are simply trying to fix them. I think that the person that Robo works for has sent a second agent to assist in foci recovery, and that second agent is using these magical girls as pawns to sabotage Robo's efforts and gain favour for himself.
>>
>>38613983
What?
>>
>>38614024
that doesn't make sense. if that's true, why would Yui abandon everything she used to care about? Even if she didn't want to do lewd things anymore because of her newfound self-control, why would she leave the council? If anything, the structures make a larger hole and then fill it with crystal matrices

You raise a hand to your head and sigh. "So, you say you want to stop me, 'whatever it takes'... may I ask why?" You gesture to her.

"You've kidnapped people, taken away everything that Yui loves, erased people's memories, and hurt my friends; I can't think of anything that could justify that." You insist, glaring at her. She takes your glare and frowns.

"We're not taking memories. Sombre's restoring them, and my focus will be the thing to protect them." She slaps a hand against her chest.

"What?" You flatly ask back to her.

"Your entire power revolves around taking the very heart and soul of a magical girl. You destroy the remnants of our most powerful memories, that which give us the power to defend ourselves and our loved ones, and even steal the very foci from their bodies to be locked up by the very worst of our enemies. Everyone you touch has to rely on you in their weakened state, corrupting them, making them dependant and colouring their perception." She offers a momentary glance back at Yui and Hiroko.

"I'm going to put a stop to that, for the sake of every magical girl out there. I know all it'll take is a touch, but I'm not afraid. I have my focus, and my friends." She waves her hand in the air dramatically. "If Yui can't convince you, then I will defeat you, Maiden White!"

You're... going to need a little longer than a minute to process that.

"Makoto!" You hear Yuuki call out as your three companions burst into the auditorium.

"Mai!" You hear from the other side as the woman in the suit emerges into the room with a small girl trailing behind her. She notices you and, in a flash, covers the distance between the door and Mai.

"Naru~ I was being so cool, you had to come and ruin it!" She whines, hitting the woman on the back. Your group reaches you, out of breath.

"What happened?" Shun asks, glancing at Mai with scorn.

"That's not true!" You shout back at her. Naru glares at you, still standing between you and Mai.

"If anything, I rely on them. I'm nothing without the people around me!" You insist. "I've taken two foci; one from a child who couldn't control herself and was afraid of hurting her sister, and one that I have given my word is going to be returned to Shun! I don't take memories, I just remove corruption from foci!"

"What's so corrupt about embracing your true self?" Mai shouts back, leaning over Naru's shoulder. "Of course we're afraid of our powers, but only by overcoming them will we ever hope to get any stronger. Our pain defines us, it makes us stronger!" She claims. You can't help but think back what Yui asked you about whether she should embrace Strict Ebony or not. If Mai's claiming not to be the villain you think, why are they creating gaps in people's memory and why is Yui's personality taking a 180? You turn to her, taking your vision away from Mai.

"Yui, please, you have to trust me. Let me show them! I..." you take a strained breath, "I need you back. Please?" You beg. She stares at you, her eyes wide and lip quivering. Hiroko looks at her with concern as she shakes. Hesitantly, she takes a step towards you, but Mai quickly moves between you and her.

"I might not be Yui's friend anymore, but I still care about her." She says, frowning at you. "I'm not letting you near her."

"And yet you're offering her up as a prize?" You shoot back. Mai's eyes widen and she twitches before looking down in shame.

"Whatever it takes..." She mutters before steeling herself and glaring at you again.

"You say pain defines you, but what about the pain we cause others? How does that define us, and the victims?" You ask her. She bites her lip. "Is it right to harm others, or erase their memories, just for the sake of becoming stronger? When does might stop making right?" You demand to know. Mai takes a step back and considers your words.

"I'm not going to hurt her, and don't want to fight anyone. Please just let me help one of the women I love." You pass by Mai as she's still reeling and walk up to the silver-haired girl.

"I love you, Yui, you know I'd never hurt you. Please come back to me, to us." You tell her, holding out your hand. Yui stares down for a second but takes a deep breath and leans in to embrace you.

"I love you too, Makoto. I regret everything I said before, please don't corrupt!" She says tearfully. She was trying to... corrupt you? Although that does make sense; you naturally resist corruption but if enough were to affect you at once...

You put those thoughts out of your mind for now; once you've dealt with these three you can properly cure her. Mai stares at the two of you with Naru and the other one, a small girl clutching at Mai's skirt, still at her side. Hiroko stands by, still torn.

You take the moment to embrace Yui, glad to feel her warmth against you once more. "For a while there, I wasn't sure if I'd be able to hold you in my arms again." You tell her. She grips you tightly, burying her face in your shirt. Shun wipes some tears from her eyes and Yuuki sighs in relief. Naoki is still trying to figure out what's going on if the blank expression on his face is anything to go by. That goes double for the rest of the people in the basketball court. You've been talking in riddles for the past five minutes from their perspective. You offer Hiroko a quick look, and she takes a step back.

"Hiroko, you know I'm right about corruption." You insist to her. "Even with a Structure keeping it in check, Glory was still a mindless berserker. Whether or not you trust me doesn't matter, but you should certainly trust what you've seen with your own eyes." You argue to her. She furrows her brow in thought but ultimately glares at you.

"Glory didn't know what she was doing, Mai and her friends do. I know what happened to Saito after you purified him, and they're the only ones who know how to help him." She answers back, circling around you towards the three. "I'm sorry, but ignoring this problem isn't going to make it go away. I... I need to do something, I can't just sit back and expect you to fix everything."

"Hiroko-" Your words seem to be lost on her; she's made up her mind. You grit your teeth and turn back to Mai.

"Why did you tell Yui to corrupt me, Mai?" You ask plainly, leering at her.

"We-"

"Mai had nothing to do with it - it was all my idea." Naru says, interrupting her. The woman adjusts the glasses on her head clinically, regarding you with a stern glare. "You've never known an awakening before... I thought that if you experienced one it might convince you of your own error." She explains. The two beside her give a concerned glance at Naru.

>>
>>38616627

"It was either that, or find some way of stopping you from ever being able to use your powers on another girl. We can't remove foci like you can, nor would we ever want to." Her glasses glint with conviction. "Mai thought you'd be honourable enough to agree to her tournament, but I knew you'd never consent to something fuelled by pride, but she went ahead with it anyway. Sometimes her own ego is big enough to block out her vision."

"Oi, oi." Mai murmurs, waving her hand.

"Mai; take Jun and Hiroko away from here, we've already lost Yui to him and I doubt we'll be getting her back until he's dealt with." She insists, pointing towards the exit.

"No way, if you're fighting I'm staying here!" Mai insists.

"Y-Yeah." The girl repeats. The two of them glance at Hiroko, who flinches.

"Uhm, I-I don't want to fight Makoto. I just want to-"

"None of you are fighting him. If he tries to purify any of you..." She clenches her fist tightly, and you feel a strange rumbling in the air. The players on the court tumble as their backsetballs start to jitter and move unnaturally in the air. "He's going to have to get through me." She seethes, planting her hell on the ground. She glares back at the three girls and they exchange looks for a moment.

"Ngh, fine. But you better come back, Naru." Mai begrudgingly accepts, and leads both Hiroko and Jun to the door.

"I already said I'm not going to hurt anyone." You tell Naru. She just furrows her brow and maintains her stance, keeping a close eye on you as Mai and the others escape through the auditorium door. You let go of Yui and stand opposite to the woman. She adjusts her glasses.

"So what, you think the fact that you pretended to set up this honourable battle excuses all the subterfuge up till now?" You ask her. "I've yet to hear a valid justification for what you've done."

"I don't need to justify anything to you. As long as I can keep Mai and Jun safe, I don't care what anyone thinks about me. I'll shoulder any burden, the way she's shouldered so much for me." She states simply. "Whatever it takes..." She repeats with a sigh. Mai kept saying that as well.

"You couldn't just try and convince me plainly?" You ask. "I met one of you in the rain and explained this, but she just ran."

"We couldn't afford to take that risk, not when your purification could mean the loss of our souls." She replies, referring to your removal of dangerous foci. "All the awakenings we've experienced, gone in an instant. I wouldn't allow such a thing to even be possible."

"By awakening, you mean when corrupted girls go insane, right?"

"I suppose that's what it looks like to you. You call it corruption of a pure foci, but we call it our awakening. If you can experience that, overcome it, and learn to surmount it, you can access the powerful emotions of that form in a controlled manner. Structuring helps to keep everything docile until you really need the power." She explains, but you have figured out the gist of this earlier. "It's a beautiful thing that you seek to destroy. I don't see how you can call yourself a magical girl with an outlook like that." She growls.

[1/2]
>>
>>38617731

"Okay... I'll admit, I messed up on Glory, but can you really help Saito?" You ask, thinking back to Hiroko.

"Undoubtedly." She immediately responds. "Structuring is a rare talent to have naturally, and Glory Gold is one of those few. We're not going to let you poison her."

"Him." You correct. Naru angrily adjusts her glasses.

"So what are you going to do now?" You ask her finally. She relaxes slightly. For the moment, it feels like she's become less hostile.

"We're not going to remain idle whilst you operate, Maiden." She states firmly. "If you know what's good for you, you'll surrender peacefully because we're not going to back down. We'll do whatever it takes to free this town from your tyranny." She announces, then turns to leave.

"...Can I know one last thing?" You ask, crossing your arms. "What's black pepper?" She stops, and glances at you over her shoulder.

"Our advisor." She replies plainly. "If you want more, ask your equivalent." She adds before leaving the auditorium. You, Shun, Yui, Naoki, and Yuuki stand there, and take a deep breath.

"Okay, I'm lost." Naoki admits, slapping his hands together.

"I'll tell you later. I'm glad to see you awake, onii." Yui hugs him from the side, and he quickly returns the gesture, tightly embracing his little sister and ignoring his own mystification. It's... pretty heart-warming to see. This alone makes the effort and heartache seem worth it.

The basketballers are still utterly baffled. School-yard drama, as far as they can tell, with a lot of strange terms thrown in.

So, they're usage of power makes them go stronger.

We need to talk to Saito.

We should tell Saito what they've told us...and honestly tell him that they may be able to help him get his true form back.

Express our worry about the way they view corruption and the risk structuring seems to pose to innocent bystanders when control is lost.

Not entirely sure that's a good idea. You just *know* that they'll dangle fixing him in front of him like a carrot saying "help us take down Maiden White and we'll fix you" and that's just the "nicest" way they'll put it. They got a ton of blackmail they could use and they probably aren't afraid to use it. We must warn him about these shameless evil harpies!
>>
>>38618125
We appeal to his trust in us by telling him we know they are more experienced with Structure...but we know we can't trust them and they seem to have a solid reason to think my powers destroy the souls of magical girls...and that isn't true as far as we know.
>>
>>38617247
Now I'm imagining Maiden Black as the type of person that's very....possessive and goes absolutely berserk when betrayed or lied to.

Yeah, they said "she" is precious to them and that they won't let us "poison" her. Yeah, they ain't gonna be nice about this. Worst case they brainwash him. Best case, they blackmail his ass by threatening to out him as a girl.

He may like us and all, but that's some seriously high-level blackmail in their back pocket. It may not matter. Only way we're fixing Saito it seems is to either befriend them or force them to do so at magic point.

I'd like to befriend them, Nanoha-style if possible.

Well... that was fun.

Not kidding, I did enjoy that. Getting Yui back on your team isn't a big issue for me; honestly getting her turned on the other girl's team was kind of a hold-over from my very first draft of this arc that I could never get working all *that* well; back when Mai was just an anti-Yui bent on revenge. The only thing I didn't like was ignoring the tournament. I like battle tournaments...

Funny thing is that the original idea for this didn't have mind control (it was blackmail back then), then I put it in, then I took it back out again. I admit, I may have sped up the heel turn just because of how many people hated the shift, but I don't like putting characters out of action for very long either.

Hopefully you all understand Mai a little better now. She's still an egotist with delusions of grandeur and a hero complex that you may get to punch in the face at one point, but hopefully you can at least understand why she thinks the way she does about Makoto. She still got some secrets of her own kicking around regarding Jun & Naru as well.

>>38619155
Yay! You can have consentacles then. Yui has some structural enhancements, just like Hiroko's untransformed ice beam, so it's possible now.
>>
>>38619204
what she couldn't control the straps before?
or do you mean she's now structured for girth?

Seems kind of typical of quests, where you plan on doing something, and it doesnt happen until 5 threads later. (date with yui, consentacles, sleepover, battle tournament, crossdressing date etc)
>>
>>38619361
I mean she can do it untransformed now, as well as some other tricks.

And yeah, that's generally how things go down. You plan for things but you can't just immediately do them. I put them on the list of things to do at some point.
>>
>>38619442
If structures are so great why don't we have them? Are they a kind of quick and easy path to power that we're not going down? Just how much do they power you up and/or limit you?
>>
Everything went better than expected. Can't wait for next session.
>>
>>38619518
You don't know, you haven't encountered anyone capable of creating them until Glory. They perform a lot of different functions and they can basically alter any part of your powers, really only limited by the experience and knowledge of the creator. That being said, they still require a power source, and said power is still limited by what the focus can produce.

Unless... you use corruption as a power source.
>>

Hell, look at everyday life. As most don't really pay any attention to their surroundings, there's so much "there" there that you probably never realized. A phrase you didn't *quite* hear, a man walking on the sidewalk you didn't notice because someone just cut you off and you honked your horn in rage because fuck them, even a super hot girl that just skirted the edge of your peripheral vision but "Oh, a Quarter!" you just spotted in front of you, I can go on for eternity...

A zany no stakes tournament fueled by Mai's ego is great and a great setting for the negotiation war for Saito.

One thing that still has me upset is that the only real way we had to make up with Hiroko was to give her time. Now she actually hates us dangling hope like that and then snatching it was not a nice thing to do. I mean we cant even sit down with her and talk for crying out loud.
>>
.... FUCK. I missed the thread because I thought it was running on wednesday! SHIT.
>>
So I just caught up and i have to say once we got our shit together i loved how this turned out. I still dont like our opposition and wish we hadn't lost so much ground with Hiroko. Saito is also a concern but our plan to tell him everything we know and then say we trust him to chose and that we will stay his friends if he asks there help. Plus Hiroko being with them should mean they wont blackmail or abuse him so he can chose freely. Though Mai may do something like that we have seen her be callus and impulsive.
>>
>>38621292

...Saito is now the trophy girl.

Hiroko is probably the only part of that troupe that you still might be able to convince through words alone, but a big dollop of Saito might help. I rolled a die in secret to see whether you could convince her in this thread and unfortunately you didn't. Keep trying, I suppose.
>>
>>38620696
flip a coin to decide and mention the outcome.
>>
>>38621429
that is actually very reassuring.
Could we ever convince Mai and her crew to be friends without combat friendship?

I mean beating them and then letting them keep there focus and possibly corruption power may just do that. Could we learn to damp down corruption as a an atimagic kind of damper as opposed to a disruption or purge?
>>
>>38621434
Or, y'know, we were kind of in panic rush mode and it didn't occur to Makoto like it didn't occur to us. We were flustered after our first kiss with a boy, Shun was literally pushing people out the door.

>>
>>38621528
Definitely possible, though in no way easy. They think you're... well, they view you the same way you all viewed Mai. That's not going to be easy to overturn, especially if they're getting a different source of information for how foci work.

I did say on Ask that Makoto was going to have to learn some new tricks this arc.

Okay, so irritated that I missed the entire thread (and chances to punch Mai in the mouth, but at least we made them look like idiots, sort of, and Yui decided that the whole idea was stupid), but here's thoughts on the status.

>,,, We ARE going back [to Yui's], right?
Votes seem to say otherwise. I imagine that's because most people seemed to want to reconvene with Umeki, Robo and the unbound focus without fully thinking about it, and many probably wanted to avoid an immediate encounter with our new rivals.

That said is it too late to swing another vote for
