You are Reinhold Eschenwald, master swordsman and victor of the Royal Swordsmanship Tournament. The King was so impressed with your skill, he personally requested that you be transferred out of the army and into the Royal Guard! Not bad for an orphan who was raised in a brothel in a poor fishing village.

One of many issues that you're forced to deal with at this point is your assignment... you've been charged to be the personal guard of the King's only daughter Marianne. While she is the vision of loveliness that you'd expect from a Princess, her personality is... well... she seems to have some issues.

After a day that was absolutely filled with craziness of types both good and bad, you were finally able to collapse on your bed and get some well-deserved sleep.

But today is a new day...

>Congratulations, Reinhold is now a magnificent WYVERN!
>Among lesser dragons, Wyverns are ranked third in intelligence, right behind Leviathans.
>Though they can't be domesticated outright, it is still possible to tame them if they're raised from an egg.
>The Princess considers you to be one of her dearest friends!
>But while Wyverns inspire awe in the humans who watch them take flight, they still don't count as people.

"Dammit..."

The rays of the sun are shining right in your face, preventing you from going back to sleep. And unlike most days, you're still pretty tired... probably because of the fact that you were over at Sir Gregory's place until far later than usual.

For a few moments you wish that you -had- asked to borrow a room over there for the night, if only to see how bad Luciana is surely taking this morning... but then you remember that you do have a job to do and all of that. After rolling out of the bed and planting your feet onto the cold floor, you greet your sword and head to the bathroom.

Once you've washed a day's worth of murder-sweat off of yourself, you get dressed and fasten your sword to your belt and gather up your art supplies just in case you have the opportunity to make use of them...

...and then it's out the door you go.

Though you were able to spend some time with most of your friends after you got back last night, Nicolette was one of the few exceptions. But it's pretty early in the day right now and she's not likely to be busy just yet so you figure that you can get some best friend time in before you're forced to report to your respective jobs.

And so, you head all the way down to the first floor of the castle...

...where you spot Melanie walking around.

If anyone would know where Nicolette is, it's her.

"Hey Melanie!" you say, waving as you approach the petite maid.
"Oh..." Melanie glances at you. "Good morning, Reinhold. You seem in good spirits this morning!"
"I guess I have a lot to be happy about," you laugh.

Leopold's dead, Luciana's been rescued, you're now engaged...

"Ehehe, I suppose you do!" Melanie replies with a warm smile. "Was there anything that I could help you with, by the way?"
"Yeah, actually," you nod. "You wouldn't happen to know where Nicolette is, would you?"

She didn't come back with you to her family's mansion last night so you're pretty sure that she's somewhere in the castle...

"Oh, she's in her room," Melanie replies.
"...of course," you say, slapping yourself on the forehead. "Thanks, Melanie."
"Take care!"

And with that, the two of you go in your separate ways.

Down to the wing of the castle where the guards' quarters are located...

...over here to the Captains' area...

...and there.

Stopping in front of the door to Nicolette's room, you brace yourself for what you might find... but then you realize that if you saw Melanie out in the hallway earlier than she couldn't possibly be in here. Thankfully.

That time that Melanie answered Nicolette's door while wearing a dishevelled nightie... that was not a sight that you were meant to see.

Not an unpleasant one, but also not one that you had any business seeing.

"Who is it?" Nicolette opens her door a few seconds after you knock on it. "Oh, hey."
"Hey," you reply with a wave. "You busy?"
"...kind of?" Nicolette sighs. "Sylvie stopped by a little while ago," she says, opening the door enough for you to spot your gloomy-looking friend sitting on a chair inside the room, "and she's in kind of a mood..."
"Because of last night?" you ask.

Theres got to be a point where you get straight up apathetic. I appreciate the narrow slice given to me because I know it is a slice very few will ever get to savor. If I got to expirence everything then it all seems to be devalued, as there being no risk to it brings no reward. The things we do in life are made all the more special knowing that of everything we could have done, we did that. Being able to do all of it devalues everything greatly.

Fuck that got philosophical, and midnight ranty, sorry.

"Sylvie's my friend too, you know," you shrug.
"I guess that means a 'yes,'" Nicolette replies with a long sigh as she steps away from the door. "C'mon in then..."

Doing just that, you make your way into Nicolette's room and over to where Sylvie's sitting.

"...hm?" Sylvie looks up at you. "...oh, I thought it was Melanie at the door..." she says as she puts her glasses back on. "Hi, Reinhold."
"See, even Reinhold's here now!" Nicolette says while placing her hands on Sylvie's shoulders and leaning down on her. "It's just like the good old days, right? Ain't that enough reason to cheer up?"

While you're not sure if a month and a half ago really counts as 'the good old days," you definitely understand what she means by it.

"I, uh..." you take a seat next to Sylvie, "...I guess things are kind of rocky between you and your dad now, huh?"

Sylvie slowly turns to you with an incredibly unamused look on her face. Like she wants to punch a hole right through you.

"God damn it, Reinhold..." Nicolette groans.
"I guess this wasn't the right time for puns," you shrug.
"No, it really isn't," Sylvie replies with an angry glare.

"In all seriousness though," you say, "I know you're still mad at him but I do wish that you could've seen your father out there. It really was something."
"......" Sylvie turns away from you and crosses her arms.
"What'd he even do, anyways?" Nicolette asks. "Punched a bunch of guys?"
"Way more than that," you shake your head. "He turned into a HUGE rock... I don't even know, and he was probably as high up as this castle's tallest point."

Nicolette stares at you.

"You're serious?" she asks. "He can fuckin' do THAT?"
"Yeah," you nod. "When we reached Ancellotta's capital city, he was in the middle of tearing the entire thing down..."

And then you look at Sylvie.

"He'd probably still be over there too if I didn't tell him that the three of you," you rest a hand on Sylvie's shoulder, "were still at home worried sick about him."

With a groan of frustration, Sylvie sinks down into her seat.

"Daddy was always kind of dumb about common sense stuff," Sylvie mumbles. "I always gave him a pass though since he grew up in the middle of the woods, but I guess that it was really because he isn't even a human. So I'm not mad at HIM for keeping it from me, at least now there's an actual reason for it."
"That's pretty reasonable of you," Nicolette says.
"But my Mom doesn't have the same excuse!" Sylvie shouts. "The three of us thought that he could possibly DIE in that awful place and we sat in that room for hours and hours, crying our eyes out... but it was all for NOTHING, and SHE knew it!"

Part of me wants to say Marianne because she seems the most generally popular but she was anyway, /tg/ just lacked the endurance to reach her route so hindsight probably wouldn't change that.
Nico would have a much better chance and I guess would be the most likely candidate, however, rushing the Karel reveal with what we know now, people /tg/ might be able to wait it out and get with Karel during the Macaroni arc.

"You didn't, right?" Nicolette stares at her.
"Of course not!" Sylvie shouts. "You have NO idea how much I want to, but she's still my mother, and..." she buries her head in her arms and screams.

Once Sylvie's let that out, she seem to calm down some... and then a hug courtesy of her best friend serves to further that end.

"You feel a little bit better now?" Nicolette asks.
"...barely..." Sylvie mumbles.
"Barely's better than nothing," she replies with a grin. "Now, uh..." she looks at a wall clock and groans. "...shit, I need to get ready. Sorry, Sylvie... after all that shit that happened yesterday the Guard's on extra alert and that means that I can't pull strings like I usually would to take off for you."
"It's fine," Sylvie mumbles. "I'll just hide out in the library until you get off then. It's not like I can go home right now, anyways."

Primary reason is it felt like it made sense story-wise, especially how she complemented Reinhold's emotional arc. Plus, if there was to be a routelock, it seemed like she was the most obvious option at this poin in-universe. Marie route would require Reinhold to fall in love with Marie after having rejected virtually everyone else, which sound like a shitty story.

Second reason is the bitching needed to end and I suspected that Sylvie route would increase that bitching, while Marianne route would create accusations of railroading.

Third is I actually like Luciana as a character.

Transferable vote system vs First past the post.

Lucifags might have been in the minority, but if enough Mari/Nico/Melanie/Ranafags prefer her to Sylvie and are willing to transfer their vote to Luci in order to see Sylvie lose, then Luci can still win.

Who are your top three?

>>38624091
And I really don't think Nick wants to be around anything to do with Vincent right now.

>>38624091
It doesn't have to be about her relationship. She's probably still upset about her teacher being a traitor.

This quest has the most maliciously retarded playerbase.
>>

>Who are your top three?
At the time it was Marianne, Luciana and Nicolette. At the moment Karel has replaced Nicolette for third.

>And I really don't think Nick wants to be around anything to do with Vincent right now.
What does that have to do with anything?

"I usually go and bug Karel around this time of day," you say, "but there's no reason why you can't tag along and help me bug her even more than usual," you say with a genuine smile.
"......" Sylvie smiles faintly. "Alright, I'll go with you."
"What a wonderful bonding experience!" Nicolette says, swooning in her best impression of her mother. "Oh how I wish I could join in on the fun!"
"Cut it out, stupid," Sylvie groans.

With her mood somewhat lightened, Sylvie gets up from her seat and follows you to the door.

"See you two later!" Nicolette says, waving to you.
"Yeah, see you," Sylvie replies with an unenthusiastic wave of her own.

Sylvie seems to be deep in thought as the two of you make your way back into the main portion of the castle.

"You and Karel, huh..." Sylvie mumbles.
"Hm?" you turn to her. "What about me and KArel?"
"I was just thinking that you're pretty close nowadays, that's all. You, Emilio and Gerhard are the only one who I really see her interacting with at all, come to think of it."
"Huh, really?"

Now that you actually think of it, it is true that Karel hasn't really made much of an effort to hang out with the rest of your friends on her own.

"Yeah, she usually spends most of the day in the library," Sylvie replies. "I thought it was because she was trying to catch up to you in magic, but I guess she had other reasons..." she shrugs. "I can't believe that she's actually a girl..."
"And she's also your... second cousin, I think it was," you reply.
"......yeah, I guess she is," Sylvie sighs.

The library is literally the hottest dating spot in the whole castle. It's where girls drag guys in hope they'll notice them.

"But since she is family, I guess I really should take the effort to actually get to know her as more than a passing acquaintance," Sylvie says. "She'll probably be going back up to Marconetti after all this crap is over with, after all."
"I think you'd get along pretty well," you reply. "As long as you don't try and throw her into frilly dresses, that is..."
"Why would I do that?"

Training with Arnaud and Taka
Magic Science with Nick
Shipping with Gerhard
Broing it up with Reya
Art time with Marius

Why the hell would you not? Everyone else, including myself, wants to do it. This is why nobody wants to befriend you Sylvie. Also, you should stop being the third wheel in Nico's relationship already. You are not even aware of the incomfort you cause for her, are you?

It isn't long before you make it Karel's room, and you waste no time in knocking on her door.

"Reinhold," Karel says as she opens her bedroom door. "Hey."
"Princess Karel," you reply with a flourish.
"......"

Ignoring your poor attempt at humor, Karel's attention is focused on the girl standing next to you.

"Uh..." Karel scratches her head. "Sylvie? Did you need something?"

I think this is as good a place as any to end tonight's thread. It feels nice to be able to write goofy friendship antics for one last time in the quest.

The next thread will be on Thursday night, as I need to get to bed early on Wednesday so that I can hopefully catch the mail.

Art and music and whatever else I need in order to make it.
