“Do. You. Have. My. Car?” You ask again as your father shifts drunkenly on his feet while you shake his shoulders.

At last relenting, he tilts his head in a simple gesture.

While you push on past and through the rather cluttered tent toward the far entrance, he stumbles along behind you, laughing once as he nearly trips himself up on an empty ammo crate.

You had expected this door flap to lead you back into the rapidly cooling air of the dusk beyond, however instead you enter the dim though large expanse of another tent beyond.

And at its center, a familiar sight.

Some three thousand pounds of classic style, chrome trim, and brute American V8.

“I never thought I'd see it again...” Your voice, barely a whisper, nevertheless carries throughout the canvas confines of the tent interior.

“Kept it close by. Thought that if you were still alive, it might help lead you to me.”

The quiet moment, whatever it had been, is suddenly cut short as the battle worn figure of Rada pushes her way through the entrance opposite you. Whether or not it's just light from outside that catches her eyes, or if they indeed flash amber for a brief moment, you aren't sure. Nevertheless you can still see the white of her teeth through a wicked smile.

“It's almost time to go hunting.” She growls, chewing on the end of a still glowing cigarette.

While you had grown almost accustomed to the deep rumble of artillery, barely a moment passes from her words to a torrent of sound.

As though some great beast had awakened from the earth, as the ground itself quivers as though the planet itself were anticipating this.

Through the tent you can hear the diesel engines of nearby BTRs and T-72s as they drive on past.

“Guess so.” You answer before turning back to see your father somberly holding a single key dangling on a ring.

You accept the spark to the iron heart with a nod.

>>
“Make sure you get back.”

“Relax, dad, with how many times I've died now and come back, I'm not worried.”

He keeps watching as you crack the door and slide yourself into the familiar leather, your left foot depressing the clutch as your right turns the key.

With a great clamor of noise and exhaust fumes, the Barracuda welcomes you home.

“You aren't planning on taking this thing out there, are you? Not much armor to it.” Rada raises an eyebrow as she leans against the door, looking inside through the open window.

“Don't need armor if you're too fast to get hit.” You grab the stick and pull it into reverse.

Slowly you back the cuda out of the tent and onto the packed dirt behind, out into the creeping night beyond as the last of the sun sinks in the horizon beyond. Even through the quake of the engine, you can feel the continuous artillery.

Rada catches a ride on the hood as you navigate the now very crowded camp, back toward where Sarna and Mattias are.

Which is exactly where you had expected them to be, with Rada's group of witches clustered nearby.

Sarna looks up from tying the laces to long black combat boots, and you can see the glint of headlights against the brass knuckles adorning her hands.

“What's up with those?” You smirk.

“Eh? I thought they made me look a bit tougher, maybe?” The little witch flexes her fingers as you shake your head. You've seen what those fists can do, and doubt a few ounces of brass is going to somehow add to that.

Mattias appears to have polished his armor to a mirror sheen, the white tabard adorning the chest now absent the insignia of the bleeding sword, instead sporting a simple cross of red. He taps the pommel of his sword, and you raise your sheathed blade high enough for him to see.
>>
Woo go time. And Papa-N.

Both great things to be happening.
>>
“Yeah, I've still got it.”

“For all our sakes, lad, let's hope you know how to use it.”

Rada slides onto the dirt and makes her way over to her group of witches who are laden with all manner of firearm and explosive.

As a whole, their eyes all turn toward you and your cuda.

“On top of that?” One shrugs, “Alright.”

The Phoenix pulls open the passenger door before lowering his imposing frame inside. Even in the somewhat roomy interior of the cuda, he appears a bit cramped. The armor not helping, you surmise.

Sarna pops up from beside your window quite suddenly.

“Hey, hey! Can I drive it this time?” She asks, eyes hungrily fixated on the wheel in front of you.

“HAH HAH HAH!” You laugh robotically before frowning, “No.”

The little immortal frowns, “Stingy as ever.”

With a light jump, she lands atop the roof and you see the end of her fingers as they grasp where metal meets the glass of the windshield.

Before you can protest, Rada and her witches follow suit, and soon enough you have a pile of witches seated atop your prized car.

You had nearly shouted about scratches and possibly even dents, before, with a grimace, you realize those soon might be the least of the concerns to your ride.

In front of you, the stream of troops continues as they clamor toward the front.

Minutes tick past as you and your mishmash group of fighters stare out from the edge of the camp as tracers begin to fly and battle against the city proper is met.

“Their assault has started, let's go.” Rada says, loud enough for you to hear.

Shifting into first, you rev the engine hard and drop the clutch, tires spinning and kicking up dirt as the rear of the cuda slides for a few moments before catching traction and sending the car lurching forward.

You know from scouring over the charts and maps where it is you need to go, and quickly find the road you're looking for. The headlights now barely penetrating the darkness of the night beyond.
>>
Though you had expected a rather smooth ride for the first stretch, resistance springs up suddenly and quickly.

Halfway to where your own artillery was planning to clear a hole, you see several Order troops scrambling to turn several crew serviced weapons to stop your progress.

However quick they had been, it hadn't been nearly enough.

Despite the bouncing, fast ride, Rada and her group prove their well seasoned expertise as they open up in a clatter of automatic fire from their positions atop the cuda.

In only a few short seconds, the opposition is quickly and bloodily cut down.

“I was expecting them to be decent shots, but...” You whistle and shake your head as the drivers side wheels crunch over a corpse in their path.

Taking a moment, you glance at the small map you'd drawn up and do your best to figure out where you are now.

“We're close.” You murmur, looking back up as you crest a large hill.

Sure enough, you see the lights of the Order soldiers beyond. Dozens, at least, though likely more. Even in the darkness you can make out the outlines of several tanks and barricades and even what appears to be a guard tower.

Now you raise the radio.

“This is Last. Send the pain, it's time.”

Taking the final opportunity, even as a spotlight begins to swivel toward your approaching car, you produce a smoke and hastily light it.

Even after all you've been through, everything you've seen, you can feel your nerves. Would the artillery be enough? If you didn't make it through here...

The brilliant flash in front of you is so sudden and so bright that you nearly touch the brakes. For that single moment, the entire area is almost as if it were daytime.

But whatever wait between splashes might have seemed, the world slow around you, the rest of the shells don't pause.
>>
A furious barrage of explosions rocks the scene directly in front of you, so violent that you almost think it will shake the windshield right out.

Though you grimace as you realize many of the blasts are falling off enough to leave at least a handful of tanks intact. And despite the sudden chaos in their ranks, more than one heavy gun is zeroed your direction.

Just got here, good to see you bro.

“Hold my beer, I'm going to try something.” You relay to Mattias only a second before you've thrust the unopened can into his chest as your foot slams down on the gas.

Even as the flood of gas results in abundant acceleration, you know you're going to need more.

You right hand leaves the wheel long enough to shift once before reaching to the dash and flipping up the cover of a safety switch.

“Hang on up there!” You shout, unsure if they can hear you on the roof through the clatter of gunfire and the rocking artillery strikes.

You thumb the red button.

The sudden kick pushes you back even harder into your seat as the nitrous first hits, pushing even more power to the wheels as the cuda speeds forward even faster.

What you had expected to be danger close artillery becomes exactly that as a blast hits so close to the drivers side that it actually kicks the wheels up and off the ground. Though you keep a firm grip on the wheel and the car comes bouncing back down, tires squealing in protest.

Thus you find yourself dead center of the Order defensive line and the anarchy within.

One man screams silently against the noise as he fruitlessly attempts to beat out the fire wrapping him ever tighter.

Behind you, the ammunition of one of the wrecked Order tanks cooks off suddenly and violently, showering the area in yet more shrapnel.

But you're already past that and screaming more and more through the broken ranks of the enemy troops, who now appear in full rout as they scramble for cover of any sort.

Though suddenly, emerging from the fire engulfing a tent in front of you, a Leo2 crashes outwards, its gun swiveling to try to cut you off, literally.

There isn't enough time, it's going to hit the windshield.

Or at least, you had so thought.

>>
In one fluid motion, Mattias pushes his torso through the window, steel in hand. He swings only a split second before the barrel would have crushed into the glass. The blade cutting almost effortlessly as it severs through the gun in a clean cut.

Above you, Sarna knocks the severed metal aside with a fist.

You know Mattias had said these swords would cut through anything, but you hadn't entirely believed him until now. It's a good thing he never got such a good strike against you, otherwise you might have never made it this far.

In a thunder of engine, you break through the last of the Order position and back into the open country beyond. Now you just hope that your speed will be enough to avoid any quick reaction force the Order might toss your way.

Again you check your map, noting where the artillery had struck and your current estimated proximity to the CERN facility entrance.

What had already been a rather bouncy ride turns into a pockmarked road of potholes and debris. You're forced to cut back on the pedal and do your best to avoid some of the larger obstacles in your path.

Another glance at the map, you're getting close. Another short bit and...

With a sudden sputter, the cuda engine cuts out and you lose all power.

You keep the wheel straight and come to a slow, rolling stop, before finally putting on the parking brake.

“Guess that's it. This must be the surrounding area we were told about.” You mutter, somewhat annoyed. You'd hoped the age of the car would have rendered it immune to any such electrical interference. Only to remember that you're almost surely dealing with magic here, rather than machine. And if you knew anything about magic now, looking up at the moon so close, it was that magic didn't always have to make sense.

Though you can still hear the sound of battle in the distance, it is exactly that. Distant.
>>
Here, however, it is almost serenely quiet compared to what you had just motored your way through.

Any peacefulness to the place is absent, though. After all, you recognize those almost drifting lights in the sky as they float directly toward your position.

“Fuck me. We're about to meet the real welcoming party, I think.” You grunt, shoving open the car door with your foot, carrying the garand with you as you rise to stand.

“Hmph, we've seen these before.” Rada growls as she begins to assemble the takedown RPG she had slung at her side.

[ ] I'll leave it to you, I need to get inside.

[ ] Sarna, Mattias, you help them fight these things off, I'll go on ahead.

“You sure you can take them on?” You glance between Rada and her group, and the approaching drones above.

“We'll manage.” She snarls, shouldering the rocket and taking aim. The exhaust trail is barely visible as the rocket screams upward. You can't track the speed of the rocket itself, but you watch the sudden explosion where on of the lights had been moments before.

“Alright, I'll leave it to you. I'm heading inside.”

Rada doesn't grace you with an answer as she busily reloads the empty tube.

Sarna and Mattias fall in to either side of you as you start a fast run along the path you. Even rejuvenated compared to your prior decaying state, your muscles don't seem to feel any fatigue no matter how much you pick up the pace. Neither of your companions having any trouble themselves.

“If those things are here, Adrian is likely close.” Mattias speaks exactly what you had been thinking. What you had been hoping.

Even with everything you knew pointing out this as where Kiara might be, your gut is really what you're going on. Somehow, you know she's here, and close.

Eventually you ignore the map, stuffing it into a pocket. Now you can see where it is you're going. Even through the hazy night, the CERN entrance building looms.

“That it?” Sarna glances toward you.

You answer with a nod.

In a sudden instant, you're shoved aside by that same witch as she herself careens out of the way. A moment later you see the fireball engulf the ground where you had been only a moment before.

The assailant lands some fifty yards to your left, raising his head where the device encompasses his face.

You slide to a stop as several more touch down, five witches in helmets, along with the wizard who you guess had been the one to sling the fireball, as another begins to form above his palm.
>>
“Inside, quickly!” Mattias motions you toward the entrance, and you heed his advice. If these things are showing up already, someone already knows you're here, and more enemies will certainly already be on their way.

The old knight is the first one there, and with a heavy boot he knocks the door right off its hinges.

You make sure Sarna is in ahead of you, ducking aside another fireball, before dashing inside the building yourself.

Though you stop quickly as you nearly barrel over your favorite little immortal.

“Yo, no time for snack breaks.”

Even in the near darkness, you can tell Sarna smirks at your words.

“You can treat me to something good after all this is over. Go find her, I'll keep them off your back.” Even as she speaks, the aura of green flames begins to wind itself around her small frame.

“What? There's a pile of them, I can't just...” The rest of the words catch in your throat as she turns those brilliantly glowing eyes to look up at you.

“I don't know what they did to me when they took me.” The flames around Sarna only continue to grow in intensity as her fists tighten.

“But whatever it was, I'm not the same as I was before. You can leave this group to me. I'm more than enough now.”

[ ] Alright. But get yourself out if it becomes more than you can handle.

[ ] Mattias, you back her up, I can take it from here.

[ ] We'll just keep fighting them off of us on the way down, and hope we don't get caught in the middle.

“Alright. But get yourself out if it becomes more than you can handle.” You palm the top of her head, ignoring the tingling of the fire against your skin.

“I'll seriously be mad if you're all beat up when I get back up here.” You roughly run your hand through her hair before she pulls away, golden strands a mess.

“And you'll have to buy out an entire candy store for me for beating up these jerks for you.” She quickly rubs her hair but can't seem to tame it entirely.

As she turns her back on you, flames continuing to intensify, you take that as your signal to go.

The sounds of the ensuing fight are lost on you as you push more and more into the building itself. Leading you right to a rather large elevator, its doors open and lights glowing softly.

“Guess we're going down.” You mutter, stepping inside and thumbing the arrow.

“He's expecting us.” Mattias states flatly. Knowingly.

“Right,” You grunt, “so lets make him pay for taking us so lightly.”

Down and down and down. An elevator with seemingly no end, or certainly what feels like it.

Mattias rests his palms atop the pommel of his sword, its point against the tile underneath. Despite how you'd first met him, and knowing what he had done, you're glad to have him along with you.

“A lifetime spent hunting her down to put her away, and look upon me now.” Mattias shakes his head, beard brushing against his armor.

“Well hopefully she doesn't hold a grudge...” You wince.

After what felt like an eternity, the elevator finally slows to a stop.

There is one mechanical ding, before the doors slide open.

A moment later, and you've already cracked off two shots of the heavy .458winmag from the rifle in your hands.

One of the waiting drones slumps to the ground in a shower of sparks.

“Mattias, and... Last, was it? So good to see you again.” The crimson drone crackles through speakers inside its rather avian head.
>>
You almost get another shot off before Mattias pushes your barrel aside.

“Count yourself lucky you had the chance. Out there you could hang back like cowards and peck at me like crows from afar. In here?” Mattias glances around the hallway.

“Please, knock aside these puppets. Do as you like. It's too late, though, I have already won.”

“Where's my witch?” You level the barrel at the red drone's head for emphasis.

The machine cackles, echoing the man controlling it.

“YOUR witch? No, I'm afraid that is quite outdated. As I'm sure you've seen above, she is now MY witch.”

“So that's it, then? That's your master plan? Destroy the world? Pretty damn cliché if you ask me.” You don't lower the rifle.

The drone cocks is head, almost inquisitively.

“Destroy the world? Is that what you think? If it's the lunar body in the heavens above you refer to, that is a mere side effect. It will be alleviated before anything catastrophic.”

“Catastrophic? Millions are already dead, maybe hundreds of millions, no one knows yet. I'd call that pretty damn catastrophic.” You growl.

“This is because you know nothing. None of you do. You all think magic is just that, and leave it at just that. But I have learned more. So much more. More than you could possibly ever hope to grasp. Alas, while I would no doubt enjoy a longer chat, I'm afraid the time for such is past us. Just rest here, and await the vibrant future that awaits.” At that last word, every drone fires its canister weapon at once.

You do your best to move aside, but in the small confines there really isn't anywhere to escape. Instead you're forced to tuck your head and grimace.

Though the shrapnel and the flame rip against your skin, it isn't the searing agony you had experienced when Kiara had been inside your mind. There is pain, but not enough to drive you to your knees.
>>
Mattias ignores the explosions as he charges forward, sword pulled back before he thrusts, cleanly impaling one of the drones through the center. The old knight wrenches the blade free easily as he spins to engage another.

Though before you can shout in warning, the red drone to his rear produces a blade from its arm and drives the point into the back of the Phoenix.

Mattias howls in fury as the steel sinks through his armor as though it were not there, and he spins away from the strike while swinging.

This time, rather than cutting through, the sword that supposedly can cut through anything is stopped by the thin blade of the drone.

With a bestial cry, Mattias swings again and again, seeming to drive the drone back even as he slashes at other nearby drones. But the red one proves a match in speed, perhaps even faster. It knocks aside the sword repeatedly, countering with strikes of its own.

The two break away, Mattias snarling as he raises his sword to a low guard.

“Go find her, boy. I have a taste for revenge.”

Without waiting for an answer, the Phoenix slashes forward with several quick strikes, forcing the red drone back and opening a small path.

As the drone behind the knight turns to engage him with its launcher, you disable it with several rounds from the garand before sprinting past.

The clash of blades echos through the hall behind you as you run.

Further and further into the underground you continue, more than once having to slide to a stop to pump several rounds into more waiting drones. Though they continue to fire their canister weapons at you, it would seem you aren't weak enough to the platinum to be stopped anymore. And the deeper you get, the stronger you begin to feel.

You know there can only be one explanation. She's close now.
>>
Plot twist, Kiara was behind everything and Last will wind up pushing a button that ends the world.

Then the two of them fuck off into space because blowing up planets is fun.

The final scene before you is not exactly what you had expected. You'd thought you'd come upon some great horde of drones, or mind controlled magic users. Maybe both. Along with some dusty old wizards in dark robes, complete with ancient tomes and lit candles and the like.

Instead, the great area beyond is sterile white, and alarmingly bright.

Seated in the middle of the room, looking out through the massive pane of glass beyond, is just one man.

As he glances over his shoulder, you see he isn't even old. Perhaps in his thirties or so, though with an immortal, who knows their actual age? There isn't so much as a single gray hair in his impeccable black mustache.

“Made it through, did you? Your friend has my puppets nearly exhausted. But again, both of you are too late, now. A valiant effort, no doubt, but in vain.”

He gestures with one hand toward the glowing violet beyond.

Through the whipping vortex, you swear you can almost make out a figure suspended there, small and dark, long hair swirling.

Anger wells up in your chest. Your teeth grind together and all at once you have no desire more great than to bash that smug face inward

The man you assume is Adrian Machiavelli looks completely shocked as you tackle him right off the chair, the two of you falling hard against the floor before rolling to a stop.

“Get her out of there, now!” You snarl, hands closing around the rather thin neck beneath you as you choke him as hard as you can manage.

The sudden blast of wind is so strong it rips you right off of the wizard, tossing you end over end until you slam hard into the far wall. But you're already back on your feet, too enraged for pain.

“I could do that. If you really do want to end this earth. Or you can sit and watch as I change this world.”

Another burst of wind sends you sliding back across the floor as your fingers scramble for purchase, finding none. Instead, you rip the sword from its sheath and slam it into the ground. This proves enough to hold you.

Now you continue to lurch forward against the gale, slamming the sword down again and again to progress, straining against the magic assault.

“Really, now. Is this how you're going to act before you even know what it is you're fighting against? Even one such as you, who will only benefit from what it is I'm doing? Mortals like you will be heaping praises upon me when this all begins.” Adrian shakes his head as he watches you continue to progress.

“You're assuming I give a rats ass about your plan.” You struggle to within feet of the wizard peering down at you almost curiously.
>>
You lurch off the ground long enough to swing in a wide, clumsy arc. One that Adrian easily steps back from as yet again you slide across the floor. However this time you stop yourself after only a few feet.

“You might, if you knew what it meant!” His gaze hardens as a spear of what looks like glass forms in his hand.

This you lift from the ground long enough to shatter against the edge of the sword.

“Since the dawn of our species, magic has coursed through some of our veins, and yet what do we have to show for it?” The wizard raises his arms, shaking his head.

“We as a species still war upon each other, let our own starve, waste away in squalor as others sit high in ivory towers. If we were to disappear now, suddenly, what legacy would we leave behind? Naught but blood and suffering.”

Despite his monologue you again continue to make your way forward, stabbing only to pull your body closer to stab into the floor yet again.

"Meanwhile, what do the most powerful of us blessed with this unfathomable gift do? Bicker amongst each other, turn a blind eye to our mortal kin. Even her," Adrian glances toward the blazing violet, "What did she ever give to her fellow man with her brilliance? In the end, nothing."

He turns his eyes back toward you.

"But I am not so greedy as to fritter away what I was born with. What I struggled to build. While she would sooner sink an entire civilization beneath the waves than offer her strength to build a better world, I would take that same strength and give it purpose!"

“So you partnered with Arcinter? To do whatever it is he wanted?” You talk to try to distract him, inching ever closer for another attack.

“That old magos? No. No he was just some blind old fool dabbling in things nobody understands, for his own ends. More of the same. More of why I have struggled all these years. If mankind, magic or not, will not change its path, I will take that burden upon myself. My own paltry powers were never going to be enough to drive this though, and for that, I needed an engine unlike any other.”

You grimace as you rise in front of him, still clutching the sword sunk into the floor below.

“I will use her power to raise us from this pathetic state. We were not given magic to simply meet our own whims, such errant waste! Imagine a world without war! Without starvation and perhaps without even death in any form! To throw off these shackles and realize our true potential as mankind! Can't you... Aaargghhh!”

So wrapped up had he been in his monologue that this time he hadn't ducked aside quite fast enough. Though the strike had been shallow, it had been enough.

While his knees indeed remain somewhat attached, they are only just. The rest of the wizard flops back against the ground in a spray of blood.

Immortal or no, the sword in your hand doesn't seem to notice.

The wind abates as Adrian grabs at his wounds, his face contorted in pain.

“How do I get her out!” You shout, hacking his right arm clean off at the bicep, “Tell me!”

Despite the grievous injuries, Adrain slowly shakes his head, and when he speaks, his voice is quivering but still somehow calm.

“I already told you. You're too late.”

“I don't buy it. And Stalin had a better mustache.” The next swing cleaves right through the wizard's upper lip, separating the skull in half. Though with an immortal you aren't sure if this sword can deliver a killing blow.

You quickly glance around the room, looking for anything that might help you. Near to where Adrian had first been sitting is what appears to be a control panel with a series of screens and one large lever currently engaged perhaps three quarters of the way.

And no matter how thick that glass is, your sword could likely hack through it...

Despite the gurgling from Adrian as he perhaps attempts to further regale you with his selfless attempt to save mankind from itself, you stand over the control panel he had been sitting near.

His attempts to talk intensify as your hand reaches up to rest on the large metallic lever, your eyes scanning over a bunch of panels where nothing makes any sort of sense to you.

At once, you grip the lever fully and wrench it down into the full reverse position.

“Nooo...” Adrian, apparently somewhat recovered, manages to choke through the blood.

You only glance at him for a moment before focusing on the vortex in front of you. Opposite of what you had been expecting, it appears to only grow more and more violent through the window as you continue to watch.

More than once you think to push it back forward, but stop yourself. You don't understand how this machine works, what it does. Better to just stay the course.

Though as the glass begins to crack and crumple inward, you can't help but wonder if you chose wrong...

There is a somewhat muffled crash as the glass peering out into that expanse finally gives way, shards flying inwards and several embedding themselves in you Adrian alike. You also hear several clink against metal and turn to see Mattias standing in the doorway.

“Kiara!” You yell through the whipping violet energy. Even screaming at the top of your lungs, that name is almost lost to the din.

Only through it all, you see two purple orbs lock meet your gaze.

And before you can shout again, the world around you explodes.

You watch it all happen as though you were a fish, safe inside your tank and free from the whims of the outside world. Paneling whipping away before steel beams themselves, exposed from the ceiling, begin to bend and finally crack away.

“The power...” Comes the voice, all at once a whisper and a scream. In your ear and all around you.

You try to scream her name again, but are either unable or it is entirely drowned out by the noise and destruction beyond.

“I can't... I can't stop it... It's cant!”

That voice reverberates around you even as it feels as though it were welling up from inside your chest.

All at once the ground above even begins to give way, showers of dirt and rocks collapsing around you. But still you remain safe. Even as the chaos gives way to the sight of night sky and stars beyond it, you remain untouched.

Even as you too begin to float upwards, there is no pain nor discomfort. Aside from the pit of your stomach that tells you this isn't exactly how you had planned your grand rescue to end.

So you do the only thing you can and attempt to fight through whatever this glowing magic is that you're ensnared in. Grasping, clawing, trying to pull or push yourself forward, toward those eyes.

“Dammit, Kiara, you can have your magical rave show or whatever later. Just let me for once be the knight in shining armor... Wait that sounds too much like Mattias. Oh for fucks sake, just...”

Craning, struggling with everything you have and perhaps something you didn't, you extend your right hand as far as you can. Anything, to just be able to grab hold of anything and pull yourself forward with it.

And as your fingers brush against something through the glowing, vorpal haze, you clasp your hand tight and grip as hard as you ever have.

You aren't sure if you pull yourself forward, or her back, but as you grit your teeth and yank, you see more and more of her through the magic. Despite her eyes being clamped shut tight, the glow behind them is so intense that it pains your eyes to look at. Her skin gleaming almost equally as searing, offset only by the impossible blackness of her hair.

It's all you can manage to throw forward your left hand and grasp her arm, squeezing it tightly in both hands now.

More climbing than pulling, you nevertheless manage to work your way until you're right beside her. Even then, you can feel the magic only growing in intensity.

And all at once, you watch as a great divide seems to crack open all around you. Through it is incomprehensible to your mind, which can only process it as a flood against all of your senses.

As the world around you begins to rip itself asunder, the magical vortex giving way to the sight of the moon slamming into the planet Earth which cracks apart, you can only watch.

Despite the cataclysm, everything about you feels calm as you float toward the nothingness, Kiara still in your grasp.

You spot Mattias floating up beside you, shaking his head.

And the only one I remebered was the Sir-community.
Which turned out to be wrong.
But led me to this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mbSfUOuTF0w
>>
“This much power... It's unlike anything I've ever thought of, dreamed of. It shouldn't even be possible, but if it is, I don't even know what is possible anymore.” You hear the voice as it begins to grow in both speed and intensity.

“With this much I could do anything. BE anything...”

You watch as the form of Kiara turns her right hand over in front of her face, as though seeing despite her eyes being clamped shut.

“Do you understand? Can I understand? Is it even possible to understand?”

Despite the chaos around you, despite not knowing what exactly is going on, you put that all out of your mind. Instead you focus on the girl in front of you. Not as whatever sort of ethereal being she might currently be, or even as the most powerful immortal to ever grace the planet.

But as the girl you had met, seemingly years ago, as you had sunk dead to the bottom of the ocean floor.

And as your arms wrap tight around her torso, you pull her so close the stubble on your lips brushes against her ear.

The energies swirling about your two bodies, which you somehow know are suspended far above the ground, only continue to intensify. It comes in bursts, in furious waves that crash against you and fill you with both hope and dread.
You close your eyes.

“Kiara!” You yell directly into her ear, “Just let go of it.”

And in the span of a heartbeat, the chaos subsides, giving way to beautiful clarity silhouetted against the moon so close you feel as though you could reach out and touch it.

No longer quite so burning, those large purple eyes stare right into your own. Eyes you would recognize anywhere.

"Jesus, eat a snickers or something. I don't think you're you when you're hungry."

Kiara blinks once, opens her mouth and closes it, before sighing loudly and shaking her head. But in your arms you can feel her torso twitching and a moment later she clamps a hand across her face, closing her eyes as her body shudders and all at once she begins to laugh.

You frown as she seemingly can no longer contain herself and the laughter comes pouring from between her fingers. Building until her entire body is shaking and tears form at the corners of her eyes.

“Seriously? After everything, every little joke, that's what finally gets you? I'm actually disappointed.”

Despite that, you keep your grip on her. At least partially because you aren't sure you'll stay floating if you let go, and the ground is a long way down below.

“You sure know how to welcome a girl back, mortal. Took you long enough.”

“I think I did pretty well for myself considering I woke up one step away from being a skeleton. I don't have all this fancy lightshow magic stuff that you've got. Where are the goats? They down there?” You peer over her shoulder down toward the earth below.

“Still. Had you waited any longer, I'm not sure what would have happened to me, to anything. I mean I know you're lazy, but still...” She raises an eyebrow and purses her lips.

“Yeah, yeah. I wasn't the one dinking around on a European vacation. Do you have any idea what I had to go through to get here? I mean I had to bust some places open, convince that old bag of armored bones to help me out instead of trying to skewer me, Sarna...”

You slow to a mumble and stop, staring right into those eyes that haven't left your own.

“What?”

“I know you've never been able to read the mood, but are you really going to make me ask?”

“Anyone ever tell you how demanding you can be?” You scowl, before roughly pressing your lips against those now very real ones so close in front of you.

Kiara starts for a second, her shoulders straining, before the tension seems to leave her body entirely. As you watch the world far below, you see what appears to be a wave of green race out across the land beneath. Desolation giving way to a sea of green and color as flowers grow to bloom in an instant.

Best. A BEST.
>>
Finally pulling away, you raise your head just enough to see hers entirely.

Looking equal parts panicked and lost for words, and perhaps even a bit flush, the immortal in your arms is if nothing else completely unsure.

“I... I was just going to ask if you'd let me go so we can get back on the ground...” She mumbles, eyes moving to avoid your own.

“Yeah? And you say I'm the one who can't read the mood? Quit kidding yourself, we both know it's what you really wanted.”

Kiara's jaw drops slightly as she looks at you incredulously. You're only vaguely aware that you're drifting toward the ground now.

“What I wanted? Don't let this get to your head, mortal. You may have come to unlock the cage, but you would have never made it that far if I hadn't woven your soul with my own. That's the only reason you're even still alive.”

The two of you continue to bicker even as you feel your feet brush against plants and finally touch the ground.

“Look, just give up the goat. You've always been a terrible liar. We both know it's what you were after when you said that.”

“A kiss from some upjumped zombie I had to share the mind of for so long? Even if yours was a bit roomy.” Kiara laughs haughtily and frowns at you.

“If I had wanted to kiss you...” She easily pushes you over into the grass before you can react, lowering herself over you even as she does, “It would have been like this.”

Brushing the hair around her ear she pushes her lips once more against yours, this time gently.

The moment was almost one of those fanciful ending scenes where the hero finally gets the girl as the camera pans away to roll the credits as the two lovers hold the embrace.

Almost.

“Get a room, you two. Sheesh.” Sarna whistles between her fingers, loudly.

Without so much as a snarl of anger, needing no such thing to convey her feelings, Kiara stands back upright and turns slowly to the younger immortal beside you. Her face, though not a glare, no less imposing.

“I-I mean... Hey there, big sis... Good to have you back?” Sarna gulps and steps away slightly, smiling uncertainly.

Kiara stops short, closing her eyes and sighing loudly, before looking at Sarna again.

“I'll only ever say this once, but it's good to see you too.”

Clearing your throat as you stand, you nod your head toward several approaching tanks in Order colors and a wave of screaming infantry following.

“Oh, right.” Kiara says almost bored.

The moment she turns her gaze toward them, the men are simply obliterated. You don't really have a different word to describe it. One moment they are there, the next rifles are clattering to the ground and tanks sputtering to a stop.

“I suppose we have some work ahead of us, don't we?” She sighs, hanging her head, “Lets just get it over with, I'm tired.”

Those brilliant eyes turn back to your own as Kiara's black hair blows lightly in the wind, and she extends one hand out to take your own.

“Tell me, mortal,” Her fingers touch your own, “What would you do to live again?”

You stop for a moment, but then smirk.

Epilogue.

The remainder of the order had lasted only a week, though even that resistance had proven light given the power of a fully revived and empowered Kiara. She had offered terms of mercy that some had taken, the rest were wiped out without hesitation.

Even their strongholds simply crumbled to dust in the face of such incomprehensible magic onslaught. And whatever pockets of remaining Order Kiara wasn't around to clean up was quickly taken care of by invigorated magic users and those of more mortal disposition alike.

However the world was already substantially changed and would most certainly never be the same. Even when the moon had been returned to its rightful place, the seas did not fully recede.

“I can't bring them all back. The magic I used to bring you back... It can't do something like that.” Is what she had told you.

After all it was you that she more or less spoke through. For everything that had changed, her desire to remain out of the spotlight had not.

Even when the world began to rebuild, pick back up wherever it could, she preferred to stay well away from any sort of media.

And when the fighting had been at last finished, she had expressed no desire to assume any sort of power, no matter what was offered.

Yet the world did not suffer for her presence, and as the years passed and magic began to return to the world as those born with the gift were allowed to grow up, even you digressed her own power wasn't needed to keep anything in balance.

Mattias himself had finally relented about his concerns, and had assumed a role in assuring that peace between magic users and regular humans would be maintained.
>>
After so much war and destruction and death, the sentiment of most was on the side of peace.

Though perhaps there might well be those seeking to disturb that balance, it was a rare thing for any to put such to word or action. By now, all were well aware of the power of Ruin, no matter how detached she preferred to remain.

“Hey, pass me the half inch socket.” You extend a hand out from beneath the cuda.

Chittering noisily, a brown squirrel fumbles around in the grass before lifting a wrench and setting it in your palm.

“...Yo, furball. This is a quarter inch. Can't you rea...” You stop suddenly, realizing you're talking to a beady eyed critter.

Sighing, you grab the frame of the car and pull yourself out into the bright morning beyond, grass stains all over your well worn jeans.

Kiara sits atop a rock a short distance away, a small bird perched across her finger as she smiles lightly at it. The squirrel leaps up to rest beside her even as it chitters away.

“Yes, he is quite the uncivilized barbarian, isn't he.” She glances at you with a smirk.

“Not my fault he can't figure out a half from a quarter. We doing anything today?”

You approach to stand over her, and she tilts her head slightly to stare at you.

“I'd thought maybe we could visit the savanna, it's a good season for it.”

“Eh? That's a ways away, you sure?” You lean further forward to where her hands rests lightly atop her swollen belly.

“Always underestimating me. Won't you ever learn, mortal?”

Yes, excuse me. This would happen to be my fetish.
>>
>>38643059
best end
>>
>>38643410
Its over, but it will have some overtime side stories.

>>38643471
>>38643505
It will likely be my practice to get back into HLQ style. If only drawing plugsuits wasn't so difficult, I only have one character design I'm at all satisfied with.

Anymore threads with totally not Halo armor dire wolf Sulla and why his milk keeps getting stolen?
>>
>>38643620
papa, you have singlehandedly un-ruined my day
>>
>>38643419
>And yes there will be some side stories overtime-style later on.
Yesssss! Was still a good ride glad it got its ending.

>>38643656
>why his milk keeps getting stolen?
Monstergrills bro
>>
>>38643656
If there's still any interest. I might just try a reboot at this point, I'm not sure.

>>38643661
Mission accomplished.
>>
>>38643723
>If there's still any interest.
Got at least one.

>I might just try a reboot at this point, I'm not sure.
Like what a time skip of sorts? Because I did like cast you have/had going for it.
>>
>>38643723
the problem with sulla is that I constantly wanted to take the most dangerous options because every single person in that quest deserved to die, and I think that's a bit of a problem
>>
Oh and at some point I want to do something Star Wars because I have a massive erection for space shit right now.
>>
>>38643723
I'd still be down for Sulla threads it and Ice vikings both were cool for different reasons. If you do reboot it, Sulla getting his milk and/or "milk" stolen better be a recurring theme.

>>38643749
I agree it had good cast. Tho Cass was sounding pretty good too but I got the feeling she was dead.
>>
>>38643723
>>38643751
I suddenly, desperately want a mini-epilogue scene where socrates officiates Last and Kiara
's mini-wedding before they drive off into the sunset
>>
>>38643766
Oh yeah, Cass is KIA. Not even a question in my mind. However, if that's not case, then some really shady black ops shit happen in the last days of the war. But I really leaning on ded.

Time skip I don't know about. Hopefully just something to get them moving, those threads were quiet. The characters would all stay the same.

>>38643750
I was sort of shooting for the "no such thing as a good guy" theme so I suppose it worked.

>>38643766
The one thing that really draws me back to it is what I wanted to show with Cass and Sulla. That alone will probably result in it coming back. And that Cass is one of the few doodles of mine I can look at without cringing.
>>
>>38643661
You punny motherfucker.

>>38643620
Overtime stories is good. I'd like that.
I'm getting back to the habit of drawing stuff again, but damn if things aren't difficult to me as well.

Can't believe that at some point of my mental health was so damaged that I thought that I was gonna do an animation based on Z&W with my skills.

>>38643751
Two hundred and eighty days, man. I'm getting all jittery.
>>
>>38643836
>those threads were quiet.
Got to run more often mate and more constantly really.

There's at least core of us here. Small as it is. Though really I don't think there was much to talk about in threads

>>38643876
>animation based on Z&W
Ha! I remember that. I take it you never tried? Heh.
>>
>>38643937
>constantly
>consistently
It's late...
>>
>>38643836
She is pretty damn qt. I just want to take her head and pet it tenderly while scratching behind her ears. I did get the feeling that of everything her and Sulla's scenes together were on another level compared to the rest of the quest.

>>38643937
Is right.
>>
>>38643937
I got as far as trying to draw backdrops, you know? Researched how cel animation is done and somehow skipped the part where it says you actually have to know what you are doing without it looking like shitscribbles. Suffice to say, the backdrops were thrown around and detoriated on my hard drives.

But you are right, I did quit even before I started. I could have studied traditional drawing, but instead got irrationally angry with myself.

That's what madness does to you, man.

>You punny motherfucker.
I can't believe I missed that, I actually groaned. Well punned whoever that anon was.

Anytime I think I'm not making progress I just scroll down and see the abominations from when I was fucking around in the /a/ learn to draw threads after getting my tablet. And I still toss 9/10 of my drawing attempts after a few minutes.

And I know nothing about animation but I'm sure you could do it if you tried.

>>38643937
Yeah I'm working on consistency. Trying for a bare minimum of one thread a week and hoping to improve on that. I thought I was busy back in HLQ days but I didn't even begin to comprehend busy at the time.
>>
>>38644020
>Trying for a bare minimum of one thread a week
Hey that's more than enough really. It's just as long as you can get that one thread out a week you'll start to gain traction again.

>>38644006
>but instead got irrationally angry with myself.
>That's what madness does to you, man.

God do I know how that feels.
>>
>>38643985
Borderline 2lewd and yeah Cass is pretty important to Sulla's story and somehow worked her way to being my favorite of the bunch.

>>38644006
Just keep your dreams alive. It's the only reason I'm here and not dead in a ditch somewhere. To quote Zyzz, "We're all goona make it, brah."

>>38644077
I think I'm going to try to kick my ass into planning for two a week. That way if something comes up I'll at least have one knocked out per week instead of zero. At this point, anything is progress. I wish I had the time I had during HLQ where I could run threads for days.
>>
>>38644155
we're gonna carry that weight
>>
>>38644155
Don't stretch your self too thin man. 1 thread a week is plenty I follow several that do the same and they have decent numbers following them. Instead of planning 2 a week just try to have a backup day to run or something.
>>
>>38644200
Going to lift that weight.

>>38644213
Yeah that's sort of my plan. And then if my backup day works out as well, I can run that day too.
>>
>>38644292
What was Lasts arsenal in this last battle?
>>
Alright I'm going to go chunk out some more Majikoi now that the patch has been released.

Also apparently Monster Musume is getting an anime adaptation for anyone who follows that. Which you should. Lets hope its not shit. I'm hoping for Xebec.

>>38644335
Ditched the .458winmag Garand to be able to hold onto the platinum coated magic sword that is a sister blade to Mattias's own.

I'll see you all in the next thread, have a good night!
>>
>>38644381
Night dude.
>>
>>38644381
g'night papa
>>
>>38644381
Night, and thanks for the story.
>>
I just caught up while at work, Papa you glorious motherfucker, thanks so much for the awesome ride.

Also yes please more sulla and mantibutt/succucore and no reboot, I loved what you had going there.
>>
>>38643985
Yea, Cass a cutie, I hope she's alive still
>>
>>38644381
Fuck me I only just made it home.
Good to see it finished mang.
>>
Just came home to see this thread, and I don't even know if sage still works, I hope it does.

All I wanted to say is thank you for this incredible journey. It's been YEARS and yet still here we are.
