as per usual when it comes to game over new start! Except this time more war focused, large scale, and carefullly selected potential for awesome shenanigans as was requested over time.

Sorry it took awhile but I had to develop shit for this.

Anyway now time for some the usual slow ass starting and generation.

Ah classic.

First to five wins unless there is a major swing around.

So here is the questionaire of whom you need to answer twice separately and YES you can repeated the same options.
>Republic
>Coalition
>Houses
>Independent
>Other

Followed by
>Poverty
>Poor
>Middle
>Rich
>Filthy Rich

and

>High
>Apprentice
>Academy
>Trade
>Free

Questions need to be determined this time around.

Character generation is encouraged but not required. You may select two from each column and yes you can select the same thing twice.

I vote
>Two MC's one male one female
>Nation: Combine
>Origin: Academy
>Initial Status: Poverty

We've come a long damn way from a couple of street rats to Admirals of the Fleet, but through toil, tears, sweat, and blood we've rose through the Combine Caste system and made it this far and like everything else we'll go farther and take what we need when we need.

Because when you're broke as hell, you learn how to bring food to the table and the table itself real quick. And you learn how to deal with people who try to take that bread away from you.

Ah wait.

The female will be
>Nation: Combine

The male will be
>Nation: Combine
>Origin: High
>Initial Status: Filthy Rich

Where as she was the street rat who fought and bled her way to this place, he was handed it out of a silver spoon and expected to brain his way through the academy, which he did with remarkable success. Chalk it up to someone of his family to be exceptionally good at politics and intrigue, even for a real short and quiet guy, although he always lagged behind physically.

have hyperspace weapons so that ships usually sit in different systems opening fire with ftl bullets, sniping each other between planets. fleets are usually distant, most hyperdrives can jump a light year in a "round," perhaps longer ranged.

clustered fleets are a bad idea

also, as the "third race" all within systems space monsters which get "deep striked" in, and can follow jumps through hyperspace.

In that case be warned I run the hardest civs while working on my system which I have already mostly revealed.

In terms of difficulty combine dorf fort + Dark Souls.

So remember losing is FUN!

This time its admittedly different as i am aiming to test out the War mechanics in depth. This time its unusual as I am changing a lot of stuff around that I have been prepping for awhile now.

Mostly based off requests and what I need to test out. Combined with a special blend to make it all possible.

Basically though you get so many actions that you need to determine per a turn. You use these actions to try and survive for as long as possible.

Its rolled for.

If you had chosen someone else besides coalition/combine you would of gotten to choose.

In exchange though they gain certain bonuses...which reminds me.

Faction Choice Combine

Acquired the following affect

Increased Difficulty Threshold
Increased Success

Meanwhile while things are harder IF you accomplish it the effects will be better.

Academy chosen
Acquired military skills.
Acquired no assets but greatly increased skills.

High chosen.
Acquired basic skill increases.
Filthy rich chosen acquired increased assets but severely stunted skills.

As for her being a good fleet officer...well sorta.

Suffice it to say bitch got some serious goddamn skills at this rate.

>>38676828
Half of refunded boons are placed into tab.

All the SURVIVING boons have to be consumed.

half of SPENT boons worth has been added onto the tab.

>>
>>38676911
All super boons huh? That leaves us with 2

About about, what, we got refunded 2 so we should have about exactly 4 Normal Boons and 1 Greater Thread survival boon.

We should also have 50$ dollars left on the tab before the half.

An an assortment of artboons, picboons, and otherwise.

Half of the spent boons would be 750$

So we have to spend all our Super Boons now?

date: 1 Year before official choosing period.
Location: Combine Speech before human assembly at Middle Educational Facility.

After speech Combine official went down hoping that the speech would encourage youth to enlist under the Combine. Superiors have been riding his ass due to the lack of humans in Combine forces.

You would THINK if they wanted more of them they wouldn't kill or piss so many of them off. Humans due to this are a tiny part of Coalition.

But NOO still have to manage it because of how incredibly valuable human lifeforms are for war duties...goddamn assholes can't make up their bloody minds.

While deep in thought noticed young human lifeform standing in the hallway...waiting for him.

...hm should not be possible unless oh this one listened it. Well lets check it out.

"You seemed to have listened in and yet not escaped. You were not meant to listen to speech."

"I have a question."

Hm...ignoring comment but fine we'll ask again after. "What is it?"

"Why?"

She then explains about her brief hard life and she agrees with the Combine. Knows her only chance out of this hellhole is the Combine.

"hm...heh I like you girl but you still have to wait till the choosing." and she is devastated surprisingly adorable. I will however offer a recommendation and my backing." There she goes perking up and now its time to go.

Still to fine such an interesting specimen...it will be interesting to see how it pans out. IF she survives to reach the choosing anyway.

While delaying matters...he can continue to plot and plan. Combine is a complex affair after all...

Rogue
A young girl and her family for whatever purposely went against their former and turned towards the Combine...things did not go as planned however as she found herself thrust into the depths of poverty.

Which was still an improvement compared to what she would of had to deal with if she had stayed in comparison...

So this is a civ quest with more thought put into it?

What is the purpose of the selection? Is it for a character, the civilization, or both?

How do boons work?

What happens if i pick Magi/Magi?

Sorry about all the questions also. Im asking because i wouldnt mind running another spess quest for myself and i like this set up. Also this seems pretty cool. Still semi new to this whole quest thing and how to properly run it.
>>
>>38679692
It's technically not a civ quest, this iteration is going to be different. It's a fleet command quest.

The selection is for our dual MC protagonists. The Civ has been handled by Genie as this is going to be an explicitly war game.

Boons make things better (actions mostly) and bigger things make better effects (Super Boon the biggest)

We have a lot of boons left over and have to use them soon.

Magi. . .uh, never did get the hang of magi. No mater how many magical units we had.

Rolled 52 (1d100)

>>38679692
woah now there is a difference between Civs and Quests anon.

I specialize in Civ running.

I have entire rulebook for it half of which I have revealed open source.

Selection is for MCs as this is gonna be war focused compared to the previous installments.

Boons are granted by times for when i fuck up or the players make a nice offering like say a good fitting pic or even art!

Fatepoints are meant to be insurance for the players.

It might be a waste or you get double the training for it.

>>38679618
Not really your breaking the limitation on it by doing so allowing you to double up on it.

So it would depend on your opinion.

>>38679580
well it depends anon.

So yes it is a civ quest with a lot of thought put into it.

Despite the overwhelming difficulty.

For quest running your gonna wanna decide the type of dice you want and the pool.

Determine if you want to use crits or not if you Do use crits make sure its not on a smaller die due to /tg/ dice effects.

Determine if your gonna need a crude stat sheet or not.

Currently I have stat sheets available for units but they give me nightmares. My civ stat sheets are much nicer and cleaner while being so goddamn simple.

I also have determined terrain affects and more importantly cracked space warfare which is why i am running it sci fi.

Turned out to be surprisingly simple solution so go figure. Also try to make sure to keep shit abstract yet simple.

You...are being taken to a certain high school. Your family made sure to pay for only the best. However they were not expecting you to take it out of the Combine.

The reason for this is simple. Human sourced schools in the combine are lacking...when it comes to top quality and you will have only the best.

In that regard you will be attending a special institute that is backed by the Corporate Council and whom its neutrality insures that only the anyone can attend...so long as you got the cash.

Which you do.

So while being transported to the edge of combine space by a Combine Escort...here you split off from their forces with our own private Paramilitary and mercs addition to the school.

...which turned out to be an entire solar system with customized worlds and installations all for the sole sake of 'education'. Here...you will be tested.

However it is though...its hard to say.

Sure enough your ship docks at a space port while your escorts are stopped by the system top of the line defenses.

Eventually you are escorted out and questioned while our identity is confirmed.

Just giving you guys shit over it.

No fucking manners sheesh...

your skills is tm at best a whomping 1.

If it makes you feel any better no one else here is any better...at least if they are new anyway.

They are also stupidly rich or powerful.

Luckily you got the rich part not even the Megacorp kiddies got a whole lot on you!

Sadly unlike them you aren't backed by a Megacorp...but rather by your family and the unreliable Combine.

here their power is limited.

ON the plus side so is the Republic.

On the bad side the Corp kiddies still can maintain an awful lot of pull. Luckily the Corporate Council sanctioning even puts a damper on megas so it shouldn't be too much...

Here you will be taught basic skills and the histories/ways of all the major factions and even a few not so major.

More importantly here you can make connections the like of which most can't even dream!

From Corporate CEOs to Republic Representives.

All of this will be in the future of course...meanwhile as for your own position?

You are a member of a Profiteer who despite the risks and through the insanity made deals with Combine and enjoyed their riches.

This however did not come without risk or much jealousy. Your family made a MAD dosh the like of which would make even a mega jelly.

...Which is the problem.

While Megas DO have some influence in Combine space unfortunately they themselves are only to mess with its members and not it as a whole...unlike the Republic and other non declared space.

Your family has no small pull in the Combine but out here...you got jealous enemies among the greedy and possible outright enemies among the Republic kiddies.

At least you got the Combine kiddies to back you...maybe if they didn't hate each other quite so much.

Ah combine politics...corporate or republic ain't got shit on that.

While in corp space you have to worry about backstabbing(quite possibly in a literal sense) in the business rooms or riots and assassinations in the Republic...

NONE of those fuckers have to deal with fullblown warfare among the Coalition just because you don't like those other guys.

Like say why bother killing you with an assassin when you can just glass the ENTIRE planet?

Ahh Combine politics...

by far the most extreme, original, and blunt of them all.

You don't like the guy?

Kill him.

You hate that planet?

Well nice planet buster you got there boyo.

Imagine Rogue Trader in terms of ethics, morality, and reasoning That pretty much sums up your family but without the grimderp setting.

While among the Republic and Corps they speak in silver while forgetting the true end all be all of politics.

WAR.

They like dancing around the issues like a bunch of fucking pansies.

Corps for the sake of their profits and Republic for the sake of saving face.

Weaklings the lot of them...now if only there weren't so goddamn many of them the Combine would win instead of this bullshit.

All I need is names.

Appearances wise the only stuff I know about the MCs is the following

Female scarred street rat turned hardcore Combine Elite Trooper. Dragged herself up from the gutter after for some reason her/family having to turn to the Combine for aid. Things were awful but she made it and enlisted. After all she has no one else to turn to but the Combine...whose through harsh living she acquired a deep appreciation for their ways.

Male short, was a quiet kid, and is a cutey if your into that sort of type. born with silver spoon in his mouth to an absurdly wealthy and powerful family. Knows the true meaning of the Trade, politics, and intrigue. Due to Combine nature is quite familiar with warfare and its true meaning.

Obviously or a good fitting name would be nice too...but alas I suck at names.

I can't think of names either. We're both at an impasse here.

Roll off?

Otherwise I will back Jacob Axel Holdstone. It seems to have the most votes.

it needs to be an annoyingly long and pretentious name anon for maximum affect.
>>
>>38685618
But it's taking a annoyingly long time to do and I would hate for people to leave. It's best we get this show on the road, less we wish to have people fall off this ride.

Can we edit the name later? Say its his nickname

Accepted. Welcome new student you will be escorted to school meeting summit. After that you will be taken to a new summit for new students along with a first year summit later on.

Enjoy your time here for it is limited.

With that you were whisked away on School vessels to the meeting....which was quite a grand affair. You could see all matter of aliens and monsters attending it including a few other things as well.

There was basically as it turned out a party for the beginning of a new year. Which was a pain especially considering apparently you had two other of these gauntlets to run later on.

Which group do you wish to mingle with?

>Combine
>Republic
>Corpers
>Independents
>Third Parties

Or you can do so by rough year.

>Beginners
>Experienced
>Veterans
>Last Years
>Faculty

You can choose either one but be aware you only have so much time and they DO have matters they will have to attend to. This isn't the only event that is required to attend.

Spend a boon on being good at socialness and diplomacy with our fellow combine

Maybe we can make friends for later weapon buying.

The Combine has some pretty sweet weaponry already, from what i recall.

>>38686595
The independents or better known as that group who have no backers. As in they got in here from soley their own merit without much in the name of backing.

Exactly the skilled sort of people you want to know. So that is where your headed...

and sure enough they are all largely clustered together looking awkward. Weird how they all somehow know each other despite lacking questions.

So you approach and try to make nice...if only you weren't so damned quiet. Greetings are exchanged and...oh they are wandering if your one of them.

What say?

Confirm Y/N?

Meanwhile talk to them about what?

>What they did
>Friends
>Enemies
>School
>other?
>>
>>38687290
Alright, we seem to have been lucky with that decision. Now what to say
>>
>>38687290

>Confirm Y/N
N

We didn't really do anything special to get here, just being born into a rich family. We wouldn't have chosen be here if we didn't recognize that as a deficiency, and respect those that DID do something to get here though.

>Meanwhile talk to them about what
>Friends
>Enemies
>>
Rolled 24 (1d100)

>>38687290
No need to lie, no I'm not. I would like to get to know you all, if that is alright.

>other?
How is things for them here? Any goals for life or taking things on as they come?
>>
>>38687371
Sounds about right. We got here on a silver flying carpet of our parents backs.

Perhaps we offer them lunch as a token of offering? We can afford it, and its gonna slip about our ludicrous wealth anyway.
>>
>>38687371
To be clear, we should /rub in/ being rich. Just mention it in a reasonable manner as explanation.

We're not better than any of them (quite the opposite) but we got lucky and we're here. In fact, if we got a pal to help us with our deficiencies our connections might even help us and them IF we got out of school.
>>
>>38687431
Try not to rub it in though.

The way I see it this can go two ways. They are either marxist and entirely opposed and hostile to us being very rich.

Or are more practical people and see us as an asset they can use.
>>
>>38687481
*******SHOUlDN'T******* rub in being rich
>>
>>38687481
>>38687490
>>38687499
Yeah, don't flaunt our wealth. But don't lie, explain how it doesn't make us any better or worse than them.

Offer them lunch, see if they except. If they do, jokingly mention how they "owe us lunch next time guys".

>>38687481

>>

>>38687290
So wait what is consensus?

Notice some stuff going back and forth.
>>
>>38687745
Tell the truth. We aren't independant like them. We have the backing of our family.

Try to get good in with them by offering them lunch. Yes, we are rich, but do not flaunt it.

Talk to them about friends and enemies
>>
>>38687745
It's not back-and-forth, it's a middlepoint. You can be a rich person who mentions they're rich without being obnoxious about it.

"hm family backing? Your family must be quite powerful and more importantly stupidly rich."

They decline on the lunch.

"Ah so your Combine aligned huh? Well obviously your gonna need to watch out for the Republic and their cronies...but to think you descendent from someone who took played the Combine hah."

"As for us we have many potential friends and enemies but unlike you ours are much murkier. Though your is a bit murkier then the usual Combine member but its still quite a bit more clear cut then ours."

"There is a reason why we stick together after all."

Your not stupid you heard the stories of scholarship students teaming up later on in live before pulling off massive things. That is assuming they live to pull it off anyway.

That makes sense.

Well it's been fun chatting with you all and if need a backer for something don't be afraid to ask. I'm going to see what else this school has, I'm hoping they have an arcade machine.

>Hit up another group(which?)
Third Parties
>>
>>38688159
Hmm, might wanna put an effort of friendlyness, even if its just a longer chat before parting goodbye. Let em remember us as someone who isn't there enemy and might just like to stick around sometimes.
>>
Rolled 58 (1d100)

>>38688159
I say keep talking to them. They are exactly what we want. They got here on there own merits. They are one of competence. If we can befriend them and eventually work with them then we will do good.
They have a lot of ability. All thus lack is the capital and power to use it. That's what we can provide. So how do we get in there good graces?
We should talk about an ancestor of ours that begun our family's fortune. Say how much we admire that ancestor. Say that they remind you of that ancestors. Say how you want to be more like them. Rising to the top without the need of old world pillars
>>
Rolled 52 (1d100)

>>38689368
Also They got here because the where amazing (there group will have the largest concentration of heros)
It better to have them with us. We shouldn't exclusively be with them. But we should focus. Because they will be the most free in the future. They won't have counsels and people to report to they will do as they will.

Is there some kind of pastebin with info about the world and how game mechanics work? I'm a massive noob and I'm massively confused.

Get a sense of what exactly one has to do in order to get here on merit.

Also, try to find one that's a (competent) show-off or know-it-all so we can learn skills from him/her without having to give them anything.

Unfortunately this is the second time we've gotten into this world politics. The first was more civ base. The past civ, call Hax, got a fair amount of world info, but not all of it.

The link here has a lot of the civs organized. Just control F for Hax spaceciv, if you want to read. (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ufBecUILGaUawnuV62JSrMBHDdhisZF1VqIP1wr90T4/edit?usp=sharing )

I have one started for the post apoc civs, but I doubt it will be of use here. As for the mechanics ... it would probably be easier if I give you the link to the last civ, if you want. If had a lot of that posted in there. The rest is a work in progress, to my understanding.

Otherwise this game type is a bit different than the normal. We are questing with our heroes to build then up. Then we will be heavy into combat with ... I want to say some to a lot of politics depending on how we play.
