RULES AND STATS: http://pastebin.com/5q9fPFjz

You are KARLA WEISS, a Belkan fighter pilot looking to carve your own place in the skies!

"Uncle? What are you doing here?" You ask in surprise as you hug him.

"What, I can't come by to visit my favorite niece?" He chuckles.

"I'm you're ONLY niece." You grunt.

"Exactly!" Uncle smiles and pats you on the back. "I've been keeping track of your exploits, but there's something I need to tell you, in private."

"Hey, Karla!" Lara waves at you from the other end of the hangar. "We're gonna go do some sightseeing! Wanna come with?"

"Um, I'll catch up a little later!" You yell back. "You go on ahead!"

"Sure thing! Don't take too long!" Lara waves as she leaves with Amy and Lilian.

"All right, what is this about?" You ask, turning back to your uncle.

"Let's take a walk." Uncle says as he starts head out of the hangar towards the runway.

Outside, the night air is cool and refreshing. You also know that with the wind and the sound of aircraft engines and other background noises associated with airports, it would be next to impossible for anybody to listen in on your conversation.

"All right, what is this about?" You ask as a chilly breeze flows past you.

"I've noticed that you've started working for Atlas in Area B7R." Uncle notes. "A very dangerous place."

"Well, they wouldn't need us if there wasn't any danger." You point out.

"Oh, no doubt." Uncle laughs lightly before his face turns serious again. "Do you know why Atlas and all those other corporations are out there?"

"Mining valuable resources." You say simply. "That's what they told me."

"And do you believe them?" Uncle gives you a curious eye.

[Incoming message]: I ain't dead.......yet.
Sorry for being MIA for so long. I'm in a weird depressive and unproductive funk and caught a cold as well. To the anon who was worried about me and my progress of working on the Karla x Jaeger Tango, the project is still alive, albeit at a very slow pace. Thank you for your concern. To that note, I've completed the initial outline of the posing concerning the two, and have a rough idea of the ideal wardrobe they will wear.
My current obstacles:
>1. Get myself out of this depressive and unproductive funk whilst battling a cold.
>2. Find a way to portray the Belkan Stoicism that those two are known for and twist it into a masochistic Tango full of Sexual Tension for both Karla and Jaeger, especially the latter. Do you prefer Jaegerbombs clean shaven or with a 5 o' clock shadow?
>3. Finish the pic and post on the next live session. Pray that this pic will be a worthy offering for the dice gods.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm heading back to the airbase for R&R.

"Since when did anybody trust a corp at their word?" Your roll your eyes. "I'm only in it for the paycheck and to fly fighters. And sometimes blow stuff up."

"Spoken like a true mercenary." Uncle smiles. "But yes, the reason why the corps are committing so many resources is partly because of rare minerals, but they're also searching for something else. Something even One Belka wants."

"What else can possibly be out there?" You raise an eyebrow.

Uncle gives you a very grim look. "They are looking for the Vaults."

"Vaults?" You blink.

"What I am about to tell you is a Belkan state secret." Uncle says grimly. "You are to tell NOBODY ELSE this information, is that clear?"

"Including my squadmates?"

"Especially them." Uncle says and looks around cautiously as if somebody were spying on the two of you. "During the Belkan War, the old Belkan government had a contingency plan in place in case the war was lost. As an emergency plan, they built a number of Vaults hidden all over Belka. B7R was a prime location due to its isolation, meaning almost no chance of somebody accidentally stumbling onto one. In these vaults, they hid everything. Weapons, vehicles, experimental technologies, anything and everything that could help a defeated Belka rise up to power once again."

"And it's just been sitting there all this time?!" You gasp. "How come nobody's opened them up earlier?"

"Because the few individual who knew the locations of the Vaults either died or went missing by the end of the war." Uncle shakes head. "And each person with knowledge only knew the locations of a few of the Vaults, never all of them."

"And do you know where they are?" You ask suspiciously."

"One." He says guiltily.

"Wait a minute..." You frown as pieces in your head started coming together. "That's how One Belka has been getting all that equipment, haven't they? They've been opening up these Vaults!"

"That is a concern, yes." Uncle nods. "Very likely."

"And you've done nothing?!" You glare at him. "Do you KNOW the sort of tech they're throwing at us out there?"

"My hands are tied on the matter." Uncle says regretfully. "The new government does not want Osea or other foreign powers knowing about the Vaults. It's bad enough word has leaked to these private companies. What do you think will happen if Osea finds out what we have done?"

"You do have a point." You admit. Even though Harling was trustworthy enough, you weren't totally sure of whether he could rein in his own government. After all, he DID get himself kidnapped in the last war.

"All right, so why are you telling me this?" You hiss as a flash of a passing airliner's running lights briefly illuminates the both of you.

"This is highly selfish of me." Uncle sighs. "I'll give you the location of the Vault I know of. I want you to destroy it."

"Really?" You raise an eyebrow. "What makes you think I can do that?"

"The Vaults were built to be hidden, and they were built in haste. They aren't armored, so a direct hit from a sufficiently powerful bomb can destroy it, or at least bury it."

Well, that certainly wasn't a small request at all.

"I can't do this on my own." You frown. "I have to tell someone. They'd get suspicious otherwise."

"All right, all right." Uncle sighs. "But make sure you only tell people you can ABSOLUTELY TRUST. Belka war technology was years ahead of its time. There were weapons in the works that make even the V weapons look like firecrackers. None of it can ever be used."

"Of course." You nod solemnly.

"I'm terribly sorry for having to place this burden upon you." Uncle says sadly. "Men like us have no right to ask the younger generation to solve the problems we've created."

"Well, I've gotten used to it." You sigh. "How's your investigation into Dad going?"

"All I have is a direction." Uncle hands you a card. "That's your father's last known heading before his craft fell off radar. That would put his plane somewhere within B7R."

"How convenient." You muse.

"Anyways, I've kept you from your friends long enough." Uncle sighs. "And a spy's job never ends. I'll take you to them."

"Thanks, Uncle." You smile. "I suppose you already have a driver lined up and are having my friends followed?"

"For their safety, of course." Uncle insists.

"I'm sure." You roll your eyes.

Uncle raises his hand, and seemingly on cue, a black sedan rolls out of the hangar and onto the tarmac, pulling to a stop next you. You get in the back with Uncle while he mumbles something to the driver. The driver nods and hits the gas.

"Now, how about we talk about more mundane things while we wait, yes?" Uncle smiles. "I've been hearing you've actually started a relationship with a nice young man!"

You really shouldn't be surprised he knows this.

"Well, it's not really OFFICIAL, or anything." You mumble. "It's kind of like, the opening stages or something like that."

"To even show interest in someone of the opposite sex is what's intriguing to me!" Uncle laughs. "I thought you weren't interested in romance of any kind whatsoever, and here are, with hearts in your eyes just like your mother!"

"i just had an idea to make destroying the vault safer. see an atlas plane bombing a random patch of the desert might raise some eyebrows, with the quartermaster if no one else. but if you gave it a cover story, like say a suspected one belka bunker or listening post, or hell just a normal ammo dump full of dangerously decaying munitions from the last war we could have an official reason to use some high end ordnance rather than just telling our rather clever superiors that we felt like watching an explosion"

alright, then not a military cache. how about some small mining company had the bright idea to set up a cache of mining explosives in advance of trying to set up a mine. the company later either ran out of funds, or found out that there surveyor lied to them and there cache is nowhere near any useful deposits. so they just leave the cache where it is. now years after this, the company has been bought out by someone large enough to worry about a giant pile of liability in the dessert, and the new owners don't want to have to pay to have the site cleared out safely, since the mining explosives by now are dangerously unstable. so they figure having someone just bomb the site would be cheaper.

point out that there was a reason the company went under and was bought out, they were way to willing to try crazy high risk high reward crap. like airlifting a few tons of explosives into a barren wasteland. its odd, but it also explains why the new company wants this done quietly, they don't want there name associated with such a stupid idea.

it makes more sense than a relatively level headed pilot spending precious payload pounds on a bomb she dropped in the middle of the desert for no reason. Not to mention it lets us have a reason to fly out there, rather than just hope a mission takes us near enough to the vault to hit it without making an obvious intentional course change.

"You know about Razgriz?" You ask, grinning at your uncle's puppylike eagerness.

"Who doesn't?" Uncle smiles. "They're one of the great legends of our time! Nobody knows who they really are."

"What if I told you I did?"

"Ha! I'd say you were lying at first, but you're not the type to do that to a poor old man like me!"

Never." You laugh. "It's funny though, Razgriz were in fact made up of some of my old squadronmates from the 108th."

"Really?" Uncle gasps. "I thought they were all killed!"

"Apparently not." You shrug and grin. "Funnily enough, if I hadn't been shot down at Sand Island there was a good chance of I could have been one of them!"

"Now wouldn't that be something!" Uncle chortles.

"We're here." The driver grunts.

"And so we are." Uncle looks out the window and winces. "Ah, I should have expected your friends to come here."

Ah, what the hell. You might as well celebrate a bit.

"Thanks for the ride, Uncle. It'll try to take care of that favor you asked for."

"Stay safe, Karla." Uncle kisses you on the cheek.

"Sure you don't want join us?"

"Tempting, but I have work to do! A spy is always on the job!" Uncle chuckles as he motions for his driver to get moving.

Of course, once you get inside, you see your squadronmates having a pretty fun time. In fact, they seemed to be drawing a rather big crowd. But it wasn't men or anything, but a lot of young adults, most of them just barely over legal drinking age, maybe even a bit under.

"What the heck is going on here?" You ask the bartender.

"Oh, this always happens when pilots come in." The bartender shrugs. "A lot of the kids here are pretty eager to fly, so any chance to meet an honest to god ace pilot is one they'd take."

Interesting.

"KARLAAAAAA!" Lara waves you over, obviously a bit tipsy. "We were just talking about you!"

"Wonderful." You sigh as you head over to the table, pushing your way through the dozens of fans.

"And this here is my good buddy Valk!" Lara says, looping an arm around you and drawing you close to her. "She's the one that's taken down entire squadrons of fighters by herself! Even took out a cruiser, too!"

"OOOOOOOOH." The collected boys and girls marvel.

Oh shit you were NOT prepared for this.

The alcohol burns your throat as it makes it way down to your stomach. However, rather than be painful, it was actually pretty refreshing. More like the kick to the system you needed.

"Ha, that cruiser was nothing!" You giggle. "I mean, just today, I shot down a pair of Terminators all by myself!"

"Whoaaaaaa." The collected youngsters gasped.

"Actually, I shot down quite a few Terminators. I kinda lost count." You nod as you take a deep sip of your next drink.

The rest of the night is kind of a blur. Though you do distinctly remember lots of stories being passed around, and lots and LOTS of alcohol. The next thing you know, you wake up in a place that DEFINITELY isn't a dirty bar floor. In fact, it feels pretty nice. The soft morning sunlight filters through large glass windows, illuminating the room with a warm glow.

"Uuuuuugggghhhhh." You groan as the sunlight sears your eyes. "Mwuwrehweremi?"

"I would have figured you of all people would have remembered this room." Professor Detlef Fleisher says kindly.

"Professor!" Your eyes snap open in surprise as you sit up on his office couch. "H-how did I get here?"

"Ah, well, it turns out that some of my students recognized you cavorting in a bar of ill repute. When it was clear you weren't going to leave under your own power, they called me over."

"Oh jeez, I hope I wasn't too much of a bother." You frown.

"Oh, not at all." Professor Fleisher chuckles. "I always look forward to some excitement now and again."

"What about my wingmates?"

"In the next room over. They had more to drink than you did." Professor Fleisher smiles. "So, what brings you to Dinsmark?"

"Oh, just seeing the sights." You say innocently, but wincing at your headache.

"Really." Professor Fleisher says, his demeanor suggesting he wasn't completely convinced. "So I assume it has nothing to do with the President of Osea arriving last night for a diplomatic conference?"

"Well, even if I did know, I can't really tell you that." You say simply.

"Fair enough." Professor Fleisher nods. "Though I do notice that you've taken up... mercenary work."

Ooooooooh, yeah. You kind of remember that Professor Fleisher had a bit of a thing against mercenaries. Something he had apparently picked up after getting his butt kicked by one during the Belkan War.

"Well, it's not like I really had much of a choice." You shrug. "Not a lot of well paying professions for former fighter pilots."

"I'm sure." Professor Fleisher takes a sip of coffee as he eyes you. "Honestly, I'd be more angry with you, but... well, the reality of today's circumstances have altered my opinion somewhat."

(cont)
>>
>>38692469
Straight from the motherland! Seriously though, it's fucking hot in here.
>>
>>38692473
"Really, now?" You raise an eyebrow.

"There are a lot of young Belkans out there that want to join the armed forces, for various reasons. Much like you." Professor Fleisher explains. "But thanks to the terms of Belka's surrender treaty, it's forbidden from expanding its army. That makes it EXTREMELY competitive, and when there's competition, there are losers, and where there are losers, there is discontent."

"I'm getting the feeling you're trying to make a point here, Professor." You frown.

"Yes, yes I am." Professor Fleisher sighs. "I've noticed a troubling trend that some of my students are sympathizing with this One Belka group. While I've made clear my distaste for mercenaries, I have an even lower opinion of terrorists."

"What does this have to do with me, Professor?" You ask.

"Well, one of my students seems particularly vulnerable to their recruiting methods. She's brilliant, but troubled. A bit like you when you were her age." Professor Fleisher says. "I was wondering if you would be able to talk to her. Lord knows, I've tried, but I don't think it's enough."

Hoo boy.

No, I just settle for joining a procession and pushing the cart carrying a saint for about 10 kilometers. Though nowadays I just buy the guys food and water. Someone's got to handle the logistics.

>>38692829
Now that, I'll drink to that. Kudos, Mudhen!

"I'll give it a shot." You shrug. "Can't hurt to try, right?"

"That's the spirit." Professor Fleisher smiles. "Come this way. You're fortunate in the fact that she's the one who brought you here."

"What a coincidence." You nod.

Professor Fleisher leads you out of his office and down the hall to a nearby classroom, where you see a rather short, redheaded girl with a very sour looking demeanor sitting at one of the desks.

"Karla, this is Milly. Milly, Karla." Professor Fleisher introduces the both of you.

"Yo." The girl grunts, her expression still sour.

Oh boy, this was going to be interesting.

And why couldn't shake the feeling you've seen this girl somewhere before?

>And that's it for tonight! As always, next thread is next week! Don't forget to catch my new quest on Saturday, and PJ Witches on Sunday!
>>

>>
>>38693029
Live in Rizal, work in Makati.
>>
>>38692957
Well Karla might recognize her. I'm at a loss though. Is she a crossover character from one of Merc's other quests? This is the only one I read.
>>
>>38693081
maybe someone from Magical girl hunter or Cyberpunk Idol.
>>
>>38693081
>>38693089
Nope, not in either of those.
>>
>>38693097
The closest i can think is Red, but i don't recall Merc ever use this picture for Red...

Seems we got new character then.
>>
>>38693029

Well, it was either that, or one of the SWQ era projects... both of which are oneshots, I think, but neither of which is particularly happy.
>>
>>38692957
That's the Morgan pilot we shot down.
