"Find me intelligence on the rest of the Golden Weapons."

You take a deep breath here before continuing, staring at each doll in turn. Feeling suddenly like a teacher trying to get her lecture across to a class of temporarily-pacified but eternally-hyperactive children. Or maybe a preacher, trying to sermon to a temporarily-sedated bunch of death row inmates and serial killers.

...Doesn't seem to be a difference there, but you forge on ahead anyway, directly addressing your captive audience.

"I want this to be clear: just gather intelligence about them. Don't try to steal them, don't kill or torture anyone for them - don't touch them, period. Just try and find out as much as you can about them - where they are, who has them in their possession, and if their owners are sane enough to be talked into handing them over."

You're not too sure about the last one yourself - every other Golden Weapon owner you've come across, other than Kharn, had proven much too attached to their new toy to let go of it voluntarily and without violence. ...Granted, you've only encountered three of them, but with the Golden Weapons' effect on their users, it's a reasonable enough assumption to make based on that small sample size.

"...You, ah, wish for us to try and find the myriad fragments of the Blessed Lady's soul, good-for-nothing?" MIE, one of the more fashionable-looking dolls, with a black poncho over a prim white dress a black pencil skirt, asks after a rather long moment of silence. "This is what your dark, corrupted heart truly wishes for? This is the core of your sadistic, twisted and perverted desires rooted in heresy?"

What...? You blink down at the doll, frowning. That's...what?

"Mie is asking if you're sure, good-for-nothing," IBARI speaks up, seemingly taking it upon herself to be your interpreter between normal talk and crazy fucking insane doll talk. "Because, well, the fragments of the Blessed Lady's soul are--"

"They are anathema to our very existence!" MIE chirped, smiling disturbingly wide.

"...Yes, that." IBARI finished, nodding. "We don't really deal well with them, good-for-nothing. Anything else, we can easily shrug off or regenerate from, but for anything made of the purest soul imaginable..." She shakes her head, a resigned smile on her porcelain face. "Well, let's just say you will have to deal with us being more of an incomplete set than we already are, good-for-nothing." A moment passes, and IBARI quickly looks up, suddenly worried. "...Er. Not that anything's wrong with that, of course. We are your loyal servants, after all. We live to serve your uselessness, good-for-nothing, and do so at your own pleasure."

It seems that the dolls are asking you if you're sure of your decision, seeing as you may be sending them on a very dangerous mission.

How do you respond?

[]I'm sure. You'll only be gathering intelligence on them, anyway. If they find you out, withdraw immediately and report back to me. That goes for all of you.
[]...Maybe not. Let me think about it a bit more.
[]Ask a bit more about how vulnerable they actually are to the Golden Weapons first before making your decision.

But, there's good odds that, when we leave the silent room, that if we can ping Midori, we're in the one we started in.

Bunny Girl
Maou
Atago
Filia
School Uniform
Miracle Midori

I'll be out for two weeks, but we'll get one more costume when we come back to wrap up Set 1.

Your eyes narrow behind your glasses at this. So they don't deal well with Golden Weapons, is that what they're telling you? Just how vulnerable are they to the fucking things, anyway? Do they burst into treats when they look at one directly, or something?

There's a moment of hesitation as your Dolls glance at each other, before IBARI speaks up. "Well, I suppose that's not that far off from the truth, good-for-nothing. ...Not the bursting into treats part, but the part where even just the proximity of them affects us in such a way that makes us helpless and vulnerable." Another shake of her head, tousling her disturbingly-realistic hair.

"Like...like with vampires. Vampires, yes? They're known for recoiling from religious paraphernalia and iconography? Crosses and rosaries, that kind of thing? That's how it is with us."

You nod. ...Yeah, you get it now. And if just being in the presence of a Golden Weapon can affect them like that, how bad would it be if they got hit with them...?

"We die," REIKETSU looks up from something that vaguely resembles a clamshell gaming device, its screen glow lighting up her features, turning her features even more surreal than they already were. Her voice a stark monotone, in contrast to IBARI's almost human speaking voice and MIE's lilting one. "And we don't come back. Simple as that."

"We believe it is the hatred towards you, good-for-nothing, that exists within the half of the soul that they were made from. That hatred makes them extremely effective in killing us." IBARI explains. "But I suppose if it's only information you wish, good-for-nothing, then we'll probably be okay. Worst comes to worst, you lose a few of us, but that hardly matters in the long run for you, I think."

[1/2]
>>
>>38720856

Hnh. So they're pretty much fucked if they get hit, but they seem confident that they'll be alright. ...Or, if you're honest, it's more that they're resigned to that kind of inevitability if it does happen.

How do you react?

It looks like the situation changed enough to require us to gather more information to make our next move and the one that is closest and seems to have the most info is QB so we should ask the dolls to spy on him instead

We could assign them to annoy NECO.

Like take one individual sock from a pair of socks after she's done with the laundry, or make them slightly damp when she tries to put them on.

Put little bits of ice in her tea when she tries to drink it, and put bits of garlic salt or pepper in whatever she eats. Especially sweet things.

You decide to change your mind about the command, and tell them so. You'll think up of something better for them to do later. Right now, having them try and find the Golden Weapons sounds way too dangerous for your freaky doll collection.

Seriously? You've only spent a few minutes talking to them and already you're forming an attachment to these things? For fuck's sake, did you not get dolls to play with when you were younger or something? Or did you suddenly forget that they were in that dream of yours, with one of them tearing Midori apart just for kicks?

...Anyway. You tell the dolls about your decision, and even with their porcelain faces, you could tell that they're...relieved, somehow. A collective unclenching rippling through them, as if they'd been bracing for bad news that you decided not to give.

"W-well, if you're sure, good-for-nothing!" OBARI smiles. "If you ever change your mind or think of a command to give us, please don't hesitate to summon us to your side, we will always be on your beck and call until then! We--"

The doll suddenly falls silent, her words dying in her lips as she turns towards the Silent Room's doors - the doors sealing you and them inside. You blink at this, and make to ask her what she's looking at - but you also find yourself stopping as you realize that your entire collection is looking the same way.

...Fucking Christ, some of them are doing that thing in that scary Western movie about a girl getting possessed by Satan! Their fucking heads turning a complete 180 fucking degrees!

"...The Mutant Cat Bastard is here," OBARI turns to look at you, her voice tinged with an urgent horror. "He wants to have you executed for your crimes, good-for-nothing! He wants you to confess to them! Do not believe his lies and those of his kind! They breath treachery and secrets like air!"

You blink at this, your eyes widening. ...What? Kyuubey...what? Execution?! And he wants to make you confess, or something? What the FUCK?

As if on cue - as if to prove to you that your Dolls are beyond suspicion and reproach - Kyuubey's voice comes on the speakers inside the Silent Room. Proving that he is, indeed, just behind those doors, about to enter.

"Matsuda? I am here for your debriefing." His voice is level and emotionless as always - except for the slightest bit off coldness you couldn't miss.

"Give us the word, and we shall dine upon his immortal soul with graham crackers and hazelnut spread!"

"Remove Incubator!" The other dolls start to chant. "Remove incubator, REMOVE INCUBATOR!"

How do you react?

[]...Let him in. You want to hear what he has to say before doing anything rash, first.

Of course he does. With these wings, we are rather unmistakably the creature of their nightmares.

Even if we're not actively opposed to his current position, it seems unlikely that we're going to retain the position of Warmaster.

And of course, Kyubey can hardly be seen to be harboring The Shieldmaiden now, can he?

>since the start of the quest AKA random morning somewhen: Chiaki Matsuda
>since merging with The Transcendent One: The Angel Slayer Reborn, the Shieldmaiden of the Blessed Lady.
"The Death of Chiaki Matsuda" may mean the death of a character - the personality, the body, the soul. We don't exist as Chiaki Matsuda anymore, we exist as another incarnation of Akemi Homura with a different personality.
>>
>>38722100
Hell, blowing his head off repeatedly ended up getting us promoted. Maybe attempted murder is like a sign of respect and affection in Incubator land.

I agree that Chiaki has definitely developed and a lot of it has been for the better, but calling all of it character development...Well, I guess it IS development but they aren't really desirable traits, and it's understandable for people to be frustrated or annoyed with them.
>>
>>38722195
I'm not complaining about character development. I'm complaining about character development that includes outright pussification of the MC. She's turned to the worse, and not in the interesting way. While the traits she had before were fairly understandable and interesting (alcoholism, brutality, all that pain is pretty normal when you jump around trying to save one slut for a thousand years), the sudden jump to being a pussy that believes everyone's word and actually fucks some dumb slut she found one day is not as explainable, and in my opinion it's even worse for the story.

I don't think that's really a good thing. In the first place, Chiaki is a magical girl; born killing machines, less humanity would always do them better. Homuhom also lost her humanity because she was doing her best trying to (unintentionally) save all of humanity and Madoka from her fate. There's no reason why she would become more humane without actually saving Madoka.

I'm calling doing stupid shit like handing over our soul gem to an enemy stupid shit, like listening to people that openly want to kill us instead of fighting them stupid shit, I'm saying waffling every choice we try to make because there's an option to back out is stupid shit.

Chiaki's humanity and regaining it is great but it seems to have come at the cost of our spine, because people mistake 'not being a murderhobo' with 'being a complete and utter indecisive pushover in 90% of situations'.

The post was unclear and that's my bad, though.

Yes, any character development actually IS character development, whether it is good or bad. We established that thirty fucking posts ago. You may not realize, but "flow of time" is also flow of time, whether it goes forward or backwards, and an absolute value is positive whether the |original value| is positive or negative.

How a character devolves is usually even more interesting than how they evolve. A dynamic character is almost always a good thing in fiction - that dynamism doesn't necessarily need to be positive - or even negative. Some of the best works of fiction have characters that change over their course, but not in a way you could call an improvement or a deprecation - they simply emerge... different.

You shake your head, here. No, you want to hear what he has to say first. Kyuubey wouldn't suddenly decide on something like that without him having a handle of all the facts, and right now he doesn't it. He has to debrief you for that before anything else.

"You are far too naive and trusting, good-for-nothing," MIE replies mournfully, disappointment clear in her voice. "To put so much trust into this mutant cat bastard from outer space." It's here that she perks up, however, her eyes glittering like freshly-polished jewels. "But, I suppose we won't have to call you good-for-nothing if you were suddenly useful, yes?"

...It's not like you like being referred to as some deadbeat layabout, but sure. That works. Besides, Kyuubey has been nothing but civil to you the entire time you've known him, so you'd like to give him the same amount of treatment, too. Give him the benefit of the doubt, to explain his side of the story as well as you with yours.

"Regardless, we will stay here and ensure your safety, good-for-nothing." IBARI reaches over to pat your hand. "We know all the tricks a Mutant Cat Bastard may pull, and we will guard you from every single one of them! Including that one where he turns you into a platypus!"

At the far end of the room, still knitting her costume, the doll known as OKUBYOU frowns. "You had to tell her that, did you? You just couldn't leave it well alone?"

"It's a valid threat!" IBARI snaps at the sleepy-looking doll. "Our good-for-nothing is not some amphibious mammal with a beak!"

"I get that, but you're going to make my new costume weird!" OKUBYOU protests, before sulking off into a corner. Turning her back on the entire room to continue knitting in self-imposed solitude.

[1/2]
>>
>>38723790

IBARI shakes her head at this, before turning back to you. "Sorry, good-for-nothing, you didn't need to see that. But yes, we'll protect you from the Mutant Cat Bastard as much as we can."

Well. You don't really think you need to be protected from Kyuubey, but if they're offering, sure. Why not? It'd be refreshing to actually be protected for once, rather than you doing the protecting.

...Wait, you say as something unpleasant comes to mind, something unpleasant enough that it makes you cringe. The dolls volunteering to protect you is all well and good, but if your Incubator sees them--

"Leave that to us, good-for-nothing." IBARI grins. "We're visible only to the people we wish to be visible to. We can still hurt them, but they won't see us unless we allow them to!"

Ah. Well. That's...good to know.

"Matsuda?" Kyuubey's voice comes on again from the speakers, now tinged with impatience. "May I come in? Again, this is for your debriefing. If you think that I should do this another time, feel free to say so, and I will return in twenty-four hours."

Your answer, of course, is to let him in. You say so out loud, and after a few moments, the doors unlock themselves in a series of metallic clicks - before grinding apart just enough to allow a single mutant cat bastard to slip through. Immediately closing behind him with the same amount of noise and preamble.

"Matsuda." Your Incubator and boss greets you as he steps forward. His voice slotting in smoothly in the small gaps of your mind.

"Kyuubey." You return with the same curt politeness, even as the ring of dolls around you bristle with clear, palpable tension at his approach. A ring of dolls that, it must be said, seems to have been missed by Kyuubey entirely - even if he had stopped only a few feet away from IBARI's scowling self.

...So they can't really be seen, then? You tuck that bit of information away for the future, in the off-chance that it'll be important soon enough.

"Right. Let's not waste each other's time." Kyuubey nodded, all business and no warmth. It's here, then, that the slightest hesitation in his eyes makes itself known - just a glimmer, nothing more, but it was there. "Like I said, I am here for your debriefing, Matsuda. I ask for your account of the entire operation involving the Prophet, from start to finish. Please be accurate, as the information you give will be immensely beneficial to the Officio."

A beat passes, before your Incubator seems to hesitate. "But before that, is there anything you'd like to say first?"

You stare back at Kyuubey. Of course, he didn't exactly say 'in your defense', but in the way he said the rest of his sentence, he might as well have roared it out loud. Casting bait in the most unsubtle way, which is strange even for an Incubator.

How do you respond?

The thing about Kyuuby in MGNQ is that he actually feels emotion. By human standards he's a fucking robot, but by Incubator standards... well, it's almost unheard of. That gives him a wisdom and an empathy his compatriots just can't match, but at the same time makes him vulnerable to human failings - the greatest of which is the ability to make decisions influenced by fear, doubt and uncertainty - but to rationalize it with logical-sounding excuses. Men are pretty good at this, because men don't consider emotional reasons to be valid ones - so imagine how good an Incubator is at it.

Ok here is my question. He has no reason to fear us. After all we cannot kill him. Sure the golden weapons are a threat and all the like, but he is clearly challenging us for little discernible reason. We followed his orders and kept our promises at the same time. We even put away all of the weapons and sat quietly in his little box. So why is he being outright hostile towards us?

He knows more about the Ask- the Ashki- wookie world than we do, clearly - he may even have some knowledge into the cosmology of Magical Girl religions. Other incubators might write it off to one degree or another, but Kyuuby has enough empathy that he might draw connections between the grief-seed of Faust up on the Moon's dark side and what he sees going on here.

But most significantly of all - he contracted Sayaka, who was recognized flat-out as looking identical to their deity by magical girls from another officio. Koobs ain't stupid, man; I find it hard to imagine that he hasn't noticed the uncanny resemblance.

He knows something's up - he doesn't know nearly as much as we do, or even Chiaki, perhaps - but he knows enough to be scared shitless, as much as an Incubator can be.
>>
>>38724210

He might be trying to gauge whether Chiaki is in a stable mental state or not.

Please!

>>38724379

I've already made the announcement to the writefags, but as of now, all writeups other than those by Wendy and Archivalfag will be considered non-canon in order to better manage what happens in the setting. Why only them? Because I've already involved their writeups in the main story.

What about the other writefag stuff that have been mentioned in the quest already? Those details still exist and are still canon to the story as they are mentioned, such as Barbara from the Iron Circle and Heather from the Sixth. Only that certain details about them are not yet declared canon. It's a bit complicated, so let's just say that everything is non-canon until they show up in the quest (and it's 90% likely that they will show up and become canon anyways)!

>>38724472

I'm really sorry! I'll try to make the next thread longer to compensate!
>>
I'm probably talking out of my butt here- but is it possible that this "reality" is entirely made up of Godoka's witch barrier? As in, like Homusatan and the False City? All the characters could have been dragged in from Meguca-Valhalla as Madoka began her witch-y transformation.

What would that mean for us, though?

entirely possible, but thinking that way, madness lies.

>We will be restoring normality as soon as we are sure what is normal anyway.
>>
>>38724630
In a sense, the entirety of the world is Madoka's barrier, but it doesn't make sense to talk about a "true" reality, as there is no reality other than the one over which Madoka presides. There is no "upper" level you can escape to, there is no bed you can wake up in, there is no higher turtle on the tower you can climb towards truth. This is it, you're at the top, and the top is all in Pinky's mind. And Pinky is in it, too.

There has be an ongoing discussion about this, almost every day for the last three weeks.

We almost thought we had it now, but yet again, the verdict changed recently, so I guess it will just be postponed for the next thread.

It's a drag because nobody really wants it even though it's necessary. It would behoove cooldown/archival/decu to at least say announcement is postponed until next time, I guess.

Hi, Decu. Thanks for the thread. These are my questions:
1 - Will we have the chance to enter Malal room in the officio? You know, to search for any bullsh- I mean information she has put in it
2 – Will we be able to discover who prepared the ambush to Murderface that nearly had Kharn killed with the black knives?
3 – In thread 1, in Mami´s apartment, there was that Witch that was apparently from the Tenth, who called us Homura. Is there anything more to discover about this incident?
4 – Who is the person who told us to wake up in Midori illusion, to not take the procedure in Siberia and also called us a fool? You know, the mysterious number on the mobile phone
5- The true identity of the red culexus will be revealed? There has been a lot of speculation, and many anons want to know this
6- In the Yuma flashback, what would have happened if we went to visit Kharn instead of Girl A?
7- Who is the Homu in the fourth mirror?
8- Why have you made so drastic changes in the canonicity of the writeups? Saga of the Sixteenth, Magical Scribe Eleanor Slam or the Iron Circle are now non canon? They seemed pretty canon for me. Sorry, I am a little surprised.
9- What would have happened if we didn´t gave our soul gem to Ahriman?
Sorry for the question spam

Green moeblob has literally no original character. You can get the same, if not better romance with the same template character in pretty much every school harem VN, anime, anything. At least Wendy is like a cultist and shit, while Midori is just Shion/Mion with a thousand times less interesting personality.

>8- Why have you made so drastic changes in the canonicity of the writeups? Saga of the Sixteenth, Magical Scribe Eleanor Slam or the Iron Circle are now non canon? They seemed pretty canon for me. Sorry, I am a little surprised.

Honestly the whole thing is a way to get around writefags having to line up at the gates of Temple Decu forever until they are allowed into the inner sanctum where a stubbled, sleep-deprived, overtaxed decu looks up from his last commission long enough to say "uh, shit, right," and hastily scratch out an "okay I guess I didn't have time to look at this oh god I want to sleep please god kill me" on a stone tablet that is then carried to the petitioner by a brace of singing angels.

tl;dr it was incredibly constraining and unrealistic to have everything "centrally planned" for all writers involved; not just Decu. The new arrangement is really simple - only MGNQ story posts, or Archival and Wendy posts (the two writefags who work very closely with Decu anyway) are considered canon; but everything else isn't NOT canon either - just not "confirmed" yet. That way if Decu is free to work off the ideas/characters/characterization established by the writeups, without having to worry about VIOLATING CANON or whatever. Meanwhile writefags can write without having to clear every little detail with The Temple, and they needn't fear writing Decu into a corner.

Any big fiction "universe" with multiple writers (Star Wars, et al) eventually runs into problems like these - even the goddamn professionals can't keep everything straight and internally consistent without some kind of practical principle like this one.
>>
>>38724628
>>38724773
Further clarification: The new write-up system is that only Archival and Wendy's stuff actually gets posted directly in the thread. Otherwise it's put on the wiki/in a pastebin, and there's a pastebin posted with links to all the new write-ups after Chikuwa is posted. It's what was done last time, anyway. We're still trying to find a system that works.

Goddammit, why? I liked some of those newly non-canon write-ups. Iron Circle! TTC! Steph's writings (I don't remember the name I'm sorry)!

Why'd they have to get dragged down by crap like Malal's faux-2deep4u angsty bullshit? Why the fuck are we insulting good writeups by putting them in the same category as offensively bland self-insert fanfics like that?

Ah, whatever. You do what you gotta do, Decu. Thanks for the thread, and don't you worry too much about the early stop or anything.
>>
>>38725106
>that Mala-hating anon is back
D'aaaw, we missed you, you incoherent ranting thing you!
>>
>>38725123

I haven't complained about Mal before, actually. I figured it was just me but then I saw other people had a problem with him and got less shy about the whole thing.

I also didn't like that one Mami guy at the start, and I haven't had a chance to read the Eleanor Slam saga yet (nothing personal, Attarou, it's just super huge).

Look, it's been a hell of a day and this felt a bit like a last straw, is all. Still, it's Decu's playground and he knows best. If anything I'm surprised Malal didn't get Inner Sanctum clearance with his (her?) connections.
>>
>>38725106
Why are you still bitching? You won. They're not canon unless explicitly referenced as being canon. If they're never referenced, they'll never be canon. Short of them being removed entirely, this is pretty much exactly what you want, isn't it? They'll never affect the story in any way unless Deculture says they explicitly affect the story.
Also,

TTC is dark action and SoL. Right up my alley. It just ticks the categories I was looking for. Harumi on the other hand is basically a smug self-insert who is repeatedly shown to be perfect at everything she does despite being a normie.

Anyway, I'm mostly annoyed about some of the cuts, and the implications of some gems being put in the same category as the worst sort of dross.

Whatever I'll just sleep on it or something.

Prose Magica is good and all but from what I hear, comparing your work to any other write-up is basically apples and oranges. How long a read would you say it is time-wise, anyway?
>>
One more thing before we fall off board:

We've done and are still doing a ton of work on the wiki lately, writeups are now neatly separated as per the announcement. The bigger ones are also actually present on their own pages, where you will find they are much easier to read than they were in individual pastebins:
