A faint signal emanates from the distant reaches of space, silently observing several server ships drift in their orbits. In a split second a corvette blinks into position several kilometers away, giving you a close view of the small, black dot of the enemy pod before it vanishes in a stream of ionized plasma. You sense others arrive at various locations as they continue to search through allied space, and your corvettes continue to intercept them as you detect their gravitational anomalies. As the hours continue, so do your kills, and before too long your patrol ships have intercepted nearly a hundred of the small reconnaissance craft. The stream of probes eventually abates, but your patrols stay on high alert.

We've already made a WMD out of them, have a mining plan with them, and have the ability to literally start a zombie apocalypse with one compromised individual.

Also remember guys, we have operation whistleblower ready to go on your approval. We can cause serious damage with it to the men in black. We don't need to do that even, we can turn one of our hybrids into an egg layer now. Also remember, we can make nutrient ships now and should probably work on a few logistics cruisers. We also should try to figure out a way to upsize our anti drone weaponry thing that we got from that planet, if we can make ships black out we can cause serious damage.

Defensive structures
>Anti-orbital battery – A bunker armed with a massive Particle beam capable of attacking ships in orbit from the ground. It includes the power and sensor systems required to operate it. 250N 1500M
>Surface to Orbit Missile System – This massive bunker complex houses a wide range of warheads and a nigh limitless number of missiles within its protective walls, allowing you to launch missiles against approaching invaders from the safety of your hive. The facility uses the ship missile stats and comes equipped with a single Cruise missile silo that can target any detected object within the system, five Stinger missile silos capable of targeting any craft within high orbit, and ten Swarm missile silos specialized in targeting high altitude aircraft and low orbiting targets. The facility itself is a massive complex spread out over several miles, and includes guidance and launch equipment, as well as the means to construct and maintain a stock of warheads and missiles. (1500N 2500M)
Military Structures
>Hangar Expansion – Construct fortified hangar facilities of +40 aero/fighter drone space and +20 shuttle space. 50N 100M
>Psionic Shroud – A single building built around the shattered remains of a Void Shard, the shroud amplifies the unnatural mental silence of the broken crystal within to mask an entire planet from potential detection, preventing outside forces from easily detecting the thoughts of a hive. (2,000N 5,000M)

>Orbital solar array – A station placed in orbit of the local star equipped with a membrane of photosynthetic cells several kilometers in diameter capable of producing a steady stream of nutrient income. Provides 1000N per day total (5,000N 10,000M
>Harvester Dock – A large pier built along the shore overlooking the spore-producing ocean film that serves as an unloading area for Harvester drones, and contains pipelines to pump collected raw nutrients to the hive’s awaiting processing facilities, includes a single Harvester which is covered by the cost and upkeep of the dock. Provides 500N per day total (38N 50M)
>Orbital electroponic station – An orbital instillation built near a large source of hydrogen used to fuel a large fusion core, which in turn provides electrical power to a contained algae farm facility. Must be built in orbit of a gas giant. Provides +500N per day and doubles as a gas mining facility, refueling the tritium stores of any ships in the system. (1000M)
>Algae Farm – A carved out space used to utilize Leeland’s natural electrical field to cultivate food. +100N per day, 1 worker to maintain.

Finished Research

>Sea Stalker dissection
Through a mixture of high performance hydrodynamics and water jets, this creature is capable of evading and pursuing targets for long periods of time, but it does not hunt, instead following slower predators at a distance until they make a kill, and then stealing the spoils and discarded refuse. You should be able to easily mimic the shape and mechanics of this creature in your own drones.

>Solar collector miniaturization
This module allows a ship to serve as a mobile solar collector, gathering energy from a star to be converted to nutrients by way of photosynthesis. Each module unfurls into a multi-kilometer long, slender sail trailing from the hull of the ship, hindering movement and making the ship unable to blink, shield, or cloak. Once the ship has deployed its solar array each collector has a nutrient income of 400N per day. (1,000M)
In adition, research in miniaturization technology has improved the efficiency with which you can build the larger and more stationary solar array.

>Alien study
With a parasite implanted and its mind open to you, you have been able to gather a variety of data from the living Scavenger.

>Carbon nanostructure construction
A combination of carbon nanotube weave and diamond filaments are used to improve the durability of your armor, increasing the durability of your ship hulls passively. In addition, this has led to new avenues of construction techniques.

>Smart Mines
Nanomachines work together to form into roots and vines made of metal that grow across a planet and sprout from your hive infrastructure. The roots seek out and disassemble any source of metals that are not a part of the hive, and pull them to the surface, using them to continue building the roots and to form gained metals into ripe, fruit-like bulbs ready for easy and convenient harvest by passing drones. Your hive infrastructure is now capable of very quickly extracting metals from the crust of a planet or planetoid at a rapid pace at no additional upkeep cost, replacing the need for dedicated mining drones. Overharvest will now also strip a planet of all metal.

>Razor mine
Fitted to either the back like a utility adaptation, or to an equipped tail like a blade, the Razor Mine fires a harpoon of chitin lined with a shaped explosive. Upon contact with an enemy, the barb will detonate and send spinning microscopic blades in all directions to deal massive amounts of damage to soft targets. The harpoon itself is armor piercing, but the blast cannot harm armored targets. A tail can hold 5 barbs bundled together, and can be fired at short range. A medium drone can hold 10 barbs on its back, and can fire them in an arc to deploy them at very short range to create an anti-personnel minefield. Large drones can carry 2x as much in both cases. A drone can be equipped with both a tail and back mounted Razor Mine, and it pays the upkeep for both as individual adaptations. Small drones cannot equipped this due to size limitations.
In addition, hive creep now can grow Razor Mines in the form of bushes and small fields, aiding in defense against attack.

[New research unlocked]

>Ground-orbital mega-construction
Slow
By using new construction systems to improve efficiency, the hive can build new projects capable of reaching orbit, using the rotation of the planet to remove the requirements of a free standing structure and instead essentially hang a station in orbit from the surface of the planet. Such a construction project would double as a docking pylon capable of constructing capital ships at a much faster rate, and replace the need for shuttles to ferry goods to and from orbit. [Unlocks the Capillary Tower construction option]

>Mantle excavation
Slow
By using advancements in the operation and function of the metal trees, you can force them to focus their attention past the rocky crust of a world and have them dive their roots clear into the mantle of a planet, tapping into a vast wealth of metals

Current research

>Microfactory chambers
Fast
Improvements in culture growing and bio-forming should allow you to create more compact shipyards, allowing for specially designed ships to construct shuttle or pod sized craft within their hulls. This process is still highly inefficient, however, and research is required to develop a more feasible method of design.

>Bored chitin slugs
Fast
By improving the shape of your kinetic slugs, as well as increasing the spin imparted to them as they leave the weapon, you can improve the armor penetration potential of your kinetic weapons. [passive upgrade]

>Siren
Fast
Taking the form of an elaborately shaped head similar to a radar dish, this adaptation allows a drone to emit a powerful mixture of sonic frequencies and directed electrical pulses to cause severe disorientation to a target. The effect causes blackouts to your own drones, but the drone is immune to its own effect, and the pulses are shaped to prevent friendly fire. Causes nausea, loss of balance, and muscle spasms to subjects in a 45 degree cone in front of the drone with an effective range of roughly ten meters, depending on atmospheric conditions. Long term exposure can cause seizures, irregular heartbeat, and may lead to cardiomyopathy.

By the way, after having read some pornographic reading material on the matter. I can safely say that launching random hive queens at candidate planets in distant galaxies we'll never bother to visit is a completely valid method of spreading the species and would allow it to be extremely widespread. Also it likely has been done in the past.

>Unknown directed energy weapon
medium
A mysterious weapon of unknown composition and capability, picking apart the various remaining samples should reveal more about its nature.

>Crystalline neural structure
Medium (requires 500 N for testing and experimentation)
Further research and experimentation regarding the strange white crystals could lead to the ability to reproduce them, and even incorporate them in your hive’s biology.

>Thought muffler
Slow
While you are still unsure how to build replicas of the void shard remains needed to build the psionic shroud, you do think you may be able to recreate a similar effect. While the result would likely not be nearly as effective, it could be employed by individual drones or ships without the need for built infrastructure to support it.

>Laser cooled superconductors
Medium
Utilizing powerful cooling rays to maintain a temperature of near absolute zero, superconductors can be constructed and maintained out of cheap and easily replicable materials and nearly no cost. This would allow for the construction and maintenance of various mass transport and logistical systems that would improve the efficiency of hive activity.

>Quantum Entanglement engineering
Slow
Experimentation with the behavior of entangled particles could reveal potential uses beyond simple communication. Your thinkers have several tests ready to proceed to test the interaction of quantum entanglement with your own technology, although the tests will require the construction of multiple prototypes and test devices that will likely not survive the experiments.

>>38732412

Available research options

>Psionic Cannon prototype
Very slow/Very dangerous
Detailed accounts of several experiments show the slow progress of Project Godsplitter. The cannon itself is highly volatile, and even the smallest miscalculation often results in the destruction of the ship, as well as any nearby craft. It can only be equipped to a Hive ship's spinal mount, and requires a functional Void Shard as ammunition. At least a dozen testing sizes were atomized in testing the weapon, and in the end it appears The Gardener never quite perfected it.

>Flash Cloning
Medium
While it may not be healthy for the clone in question, your mastery of biological technology allows you to accelerate the normal growth cycle of a clone, growing it to maturity within a single day, however clones are not as genetically robust as your own drones and doing so may cause undesirable genetic defects that may take time to reverse and result in a lower quality final product.

The strange alien creature convulses in your pod and your newly adapted parasite digs into it. It has no spine, but a liquid circulatory system that shares its use as both a blood stream and a nervous system. Your drone burrows into what could be called a heart, replacing its function with itself and linking into the creature's mind. You can see images and memories of a vast fleet. One of the scouting fleets, one of many, had arrived in the region not long ago, encountering a small cluster of ships. This alien was a member of that fleet as well, one of the leaders. You can see through its vision as blank displays produce patterns of heat across its vision, indicating the fleet is shielded.

The scouting fleet opens fire, and quickly manages to secure several boarding ships to the sides of derelict vessels. The pack of boarders lunge through the tube to the damaged craft. The enemy is strong, solders encased in metal shells with powerful weapons, but they eventually overwhelmed. There is a signal from the bridge of the craft to the rest of the ships.
"IFS Arizonan to fleet, this is a general retreat. Return to base and alert command. We have been boarded and are initiating self destruct. Repeat-" An explosion in the background cuts off the human on the radio, and the sound of gunfire fills the channel with static before cutting off. The surrounding ships begin to accelerate away backwards, firing their guns wildly and sending missiles into space. The Arizonan begins to break up, and your watch, through alien eyes from the safety of the command deck of the now disconnected boarding craft as the human ship implodes in on itself.

The alien rattles out a command, and its bridge staff quickly begin to calculate the trajectory of the fleeing ships.

Solar Collectors have been added to the wiki.
(I'm going to start working on a hive ship design now.)

Now, lets build 45x Orbital Electroponic stations on out local gas giant.

Well, at least we know they'll never be able to remove our parasite without killing the host.

Your pod arrives in the system the ship was heading to, and you can recognize several of the distant signals of ships. Your pod has arrived just before the Scavenger ship and you watch as it slows back down bellow the light barrier. It quickly moves past your cloaked pod and joins the rest of the scouting fleet within the system, and your pod slowly follows.

The system of the blue giant is largely unappealing for settlement. On the distant outskirts is a faint and low density belt of frozen gas and rock, while inward is a low mass, "puffy" gas giant that holds a small group of rings made of gases and trace amounts of water ice. The gas giant is surrounded by ships of varying shapes and sizes, all of them feeding on the giant like animals over carrion. The ship you had fought with docks with one of the larger craft, which looks more akin to a station with thrusters, and armatures reach out and begin to repair the heavy damage across its hull.

You can see other craft coming and going as well, other scouting skimming over the various nearby star systems in search of resources. You are unaware of how it functions, but now that you know what to look for you can spot the moment the Scavenger ships activate their drive, as it seems to jerk ever so slightly. The Flicker Drive, your new guest recalls, seems to actually be rather similar in function to your own blink drive, but while your drive permits long range jumps with a short charge time, theirs seems to... adjust the position of the ship, effectively teleporting it in space, but by only a Planck's length at a time. While the ship itself seems to functionally be moving at a steady pace, it is actually not in motion at all, but simply undergoing billions of teleportations per second.

In the system of the red giant, you notice more than just the system. While the nebulous wall of gas prevented long range sensors before, this new vantage point offers your drone a glimpse at Commonwealth space.
[map updated]

The system itself is as you would expect for such an old star. What was once a gas giant sits near the edge of the system, frozen into a dense ball of ice and its gas blown away by solar wind. It likely formed closer to the star when it was younger, and was blasted out here as the start destabilized. The planet itself is small in appearance, but with a powerful gravitational pull. Mountains of diamond shimmer in the dim red light, frozen in still tidal waves and motionless ripples like a frozen ocean.

Further inward there is a small planet a moderate distance from the star, with a hint of an atmosphere. You detect no life, however, or any means for it to develop, with no detected liquid water, no geothermic activity, and what little there is of the atmosphere is mostly toxic chemicals.

Further in still is a charred husk. A burnt rock scorched black. Signs of long lost liquid water rivers trace across the surface, with traces of a rich atmosphere found in the form of wind swept deserts and mountains. The planet was likely once a rich and fertile world, until the sun expanded and blasted away its atmosphere, boiling the seas and scorching the soil. Even your drones would be unable to survive for long on the planet, and it shows no signs of resources in any bountiful form.

We can retask lyle to directly assist him (use him as a middle man for our intel). holy shit, I just realized something. We know the scavengers use pheremones as a major form of communications, this biologically works through having receptors designed to bind and transport these molecules to the inside of the body and then they are converted to whatever the message it is significant for. We can hijack this system very easily by designing toxins that bind on these receptors and are then absorbed. This is effectively how viruses normally infect a body, so the concept is already functional.

>Manage your forces on Gemini
We have all night to do everything, I just wanted to know what you wanted to do first.

Bloated and immobile, the cocoon of your new small egg layer cracks open. It is limited in what it can do, but it is still incredibly useful, allowing you to lay new small drones without sending forces yourself. In addition, your hybrids have rented a low class room to stay for the week, and have given your egg layer a place to stay for the time being. Your drone idly munches on nutrients, its head stuffed inside of an open bag of snack food taken from a vendor nearby as its abdomen swells.

Lyle and the others make their plans. Dillon has been speaking with various people all morning. He barges into the safehouse with a large crate in his arms, slamming it onto the table which gives out a creak in protest. Jackob sits on the couch with his arm in a sling, although the wound has nearly healed already, and Lyle inspects his breakfast, a plate of eggs and various spices from the small and dingy kitchen. Dissatisfied, he pours a portion of his beer over it, igniting a pillar of flame.

"Want me to make you one?" Lyle asks as he flips contents of the pan.
"I'll pass." Dillon says. He unbuttons the crate. "But now that this is official SecCom business, I get to call in the big guns."

The crate opens and Jackob's face lights up. "Christ, man, is it my birthday?" He says. Inside are several sidearms, two shredders and two variable-strike hand rifles. Dillon picks up one of the shredders and tosses it to Jackob's good arm. "Ladar ranging sights, and the darts have a magnetized bore, gives it some penetration when you need it."

"I love you. I ever tell you that?" Jackob says.

"Don't I know it. I also have a multi phase pulse rifle. It's a miniaturized cyclotron with a linear attachment. You won't find it on the market and it's got more range then anything else man-portable."

Lyle moves over to inspect the weapons, his eggs still simmering on the pan in one hand.

"And here we have a little something we call the Compensator in the office." He hefts up a bulky slab of metal. "Remove fire missile system, with networked drone support. Set it up in the distance and you can use it to track just about anything in the combat zone and lets you call in an artillery strike with the convenience of ordering pizza. It doubles as a portable SAM site, I doubt we'll exactly need that, but shit it's worth mentioning." Dillon is smiling ear to ear as he places the device back in the crate, then points out several small orbs. "And of course you have your grenades, EMP, concussion grenades, enough tear gas to make a nun cry, couple plasma charges, and a half-dozen breaching caps, because every single time I figured I wouldn't need a breaching cap I immediately regretted it."

Lyle reaches in and pulls out one of the variable-strike weapons. It lets out a light beep as a light turns green. A rough digital voice reads out, "Hand print identity registered as new user."

Dillon takes his own weapon out of the holster. "It's voice activated if you want, but it's got a thumb switch as well. It can switch between anti-armor, soft target, micro-rocket, high-ex, and plasma rounds, and the first two have semi or fully automatic settings."

Lyle looks over it curiously. "So what's the occasion? I thought we were running an investigation, not starting a coupe."

Dillon looks back to Lyle. "If BFI is running rogue ops in the capital, there won't be much difference."

"Office supplies."

That model was actually intended for use in police forces, but was deemed to be overkill and caused protests over the idea of anyone wielding such a monster. After that a few military contracts were attempted but failed, since it was just too expensive for a sidearm. Eventually it became overwhelmingly popular among special operations units, private security companies, and criminals, but is otherwise considered to be so powerful that most people who could use them would usually prefer to just go with a tank, and those who can't use a tank usually don't need one.

Speaking of which, I think it would be best if we started considering weapon loadouts into the drones themselves. It's gotten to the point that it seems that all the drones of a certain design are used for a single niche, and thus all have a single weapon loadout, so I think condensing weapons into general design would simplify things.

Once again, I was anti murder because we can use memories, skills, and identities of these people to our advantage. It is already a poor district, but your hybrids quickly manage to find the dirt beneath the grime, searching through old drain pipes and squatter towns lodged beneath overpasses. Near a drainage canal you find a large pipe leading into a maintenance corridor. The area is filled with rain water and the sound of distant taidarens fills the air with sharp whistles. Eventually the area opens up to a large overflow tank. You find a series of connectors and corridors nearby that seem to lead to a protein recycling plant, one of many scattered across the planet dedicated to recycling water and breaking down food, trash, waste, and even bodies into compost for export to the farmland outside the city.

The canals seem to all feed into or out of a single set of connectors that leads to the plant itself, sealed waste pipes lead up to the processors above, and various waterfalls of drain water flows down, carried off to a more dedicated water treatment plant, or to just be dumped into a river.

The plant itself is mostly automated. The surface appears as a factory of moderate size, with areas dedicated to different forms of waste disposal. Trucks bring in compost and waste food from nearby sorting facilities and restaurants from across the district, while occasional shipments from local hospitals and mortuaries arrive on occasion to dispose of bodies, organs, and other biological waste. Pipes from below bring up sewage and other waste to the filters in the basement level where your hybrids stand, a large cylindrical tank of crisscrossing catwalks, pipes, and waterfalls. High above the filtration tanks hum loudly, swishing about with sludge and condensed nutrients waiting to be shipped off to some farm in the country.

Oh, right, I actually did earlier but then ran out of space, had to remove it, and forgot.

Essentially the only big things banned across boarders are things that cause long term damage to planets. Dropping asteroids, nukes, things like that. There are laws regarding chemicals and bio weapons, but they are typically loosely worded and usually only pertain to weapons that are behind the curve anyways. There are things in your arsenal that could be considered questionable, but you never signed any of those treaties anyways.

Have any of you ever played a Civ III game that dragged on too long? Where the ice caps melted and flooded everything, where everyone stalemated and all the usable land was flooded, radioactive, or contested? The earth is basically that irradiated bogged down shithole of a world you'd have. It definitely is habitable, but its by no means pleasant to live on. We can fix that. We also can probably fix the garbage issue with a generous application of plasma.

Well, if you really wanted to lawyer it, most of your tech could probably be passed off as terraforming, or hive-forming I guess.

Obviously such a distinction wouldn't make spreading hive creep across a human planet any less of an aggressive action, but still.

>>38737901
Technically the ban only applies to using nukes on other factions' worlds. Nuking your own planet is perfectly legal, if a bit nonsensical. There are also lots of finer stipulations regarding how big the nuke is, how much radiation it gives off, how close the blast was to a civilian population, ect ect. The treaties also only protect other factions that signed the treaty, so it only aplies to wars between Commonwealth, Valen, and Union forces, and even then not all of the Valen clans signed it.
>>
>>38737888
Yeah, one of the biggest fruits of the genesis project is diplomatic in nature. The other races will be lining up to kiss our magnificent ass if we let on we're capable of terraforming a planet within a week.

Your hybrid gets up from the chair and moves to pick up your small egg layer, it writhes its under developed legs in response, clawing at the air after the bowl of candies. She carefully places your drone into a nap sack, and then dumps the remaining mints into the bag with it. Your hybrid swings the bag over her shoulder and moves out the door. Occasional muffled crunching sounds escape the bag she quickly makes her way to the other two clones.

Once at the junction, your clone takes out the egg layer. The three fan out and quickly find an access port to the tank above to plant the egg layer.

Your hybrids begin shuffling the eggs to new locations, storing them safely just beneath the surface of the water of the surrounding overflow pools and drainage tanks where the water is calm. Others are placed along alcoves and suspended from walls, or embedded in clutches between pipes and conduits.

Theseus sends you a ping.
"Your request to locate a particular human has been done. Here is pertinent data found on the targeted individual."

Without pause the Clarke transmits the data to you. The man's listed name is Shigeki yune, a special agent of the Bureau of Foreign Intelligence. You skim over the various details. Age seventy three, native to Path, a long service record on the local PDF until the age of thirty, where the fire becomes classified. That doesn't prevent Theseus from gathering that data, but he placed a small note there just to let you know that fact.

Medical history indicates only a few minor medical augments, and his service record lists several awards and commendations for marksmanship despite having a disorder in the right eye.

Included in the data packet is a sighting from a traffic camera of the air car touching down in the capital district. It moves into an unmarked office building's parking elevator and disappears from sight. According to the provided documents, the address is listed to be the headquarters to a paper printing company.

"I will notify you if more information is uncovered." He says, then goes silent again, preoccupied with some other matter.

Lyle is finishing reassembling his new weapon when you interrupt.
"You have work to do." You say simple, and the images of the agent flood the surface of his mind. He pauses for a moment, and then turns to the others. "I think I have some new info on that agent. Goes by the name Shigeki Yune. My... employer, just found an address where someone matching his description was seen entering. It's a printing company in the capital district."

"Printing, like paper? That's the best front they could come up with?" Jackob asks. "Who the fuck uses paper still?"

"Doesn't matter, we can't just barge into one of their buildings, no matter how suspect it is. I'll go case the area for a good vantage point nearby, we can set up a lookout and case the place."
The group begins to back their equipment.
"Anything else on this guy?"

Lyle stores his weapon into his jacket and nods. "Used to be in Path's PDF, apparently he's a damn good shot, not sure about augs but he doesn't have anything my source could find, so it's probably safe to say he doesn't have any."

I vote for a vast and complex tunnel system under the waste plant when we get the drone power.
>>
>>38739768
That seems counterproductive to the whole, evade detection thing. Just have all drones have gills, and have them underwater in the sewers and the river it connects to.
>>
>>38739798
>That seems counterproductive to the whole, evade detection thing
How so?
>>
>>38739728
About the clones? Yes, that was my bad. It does look like the general consensus was for about 50 or 100 of them. That, and the Skyl clones. I decided to have them both on a hold until it all gets sorted out, preferably at the end of a thread like here so it doesn't halt anything, and just count them has being in production since they were voted for.

At the moment, however, you only have 12 biotanks, so it is a bit of a bottleneck.
>>
>>38739798
There's not a whole lot of risk involved, it's a fucking sewer. Who's going to go down into a sewer and find us?
>>
>>38739805
>vast and complex tunnel system
>>
>>38739805
Hiding in existing structures allows us to simply hide if someone passes through on some legitimate errand, leaving them none the wiser. Digging our own infrastructure leaves something discoverable, which cannot be relocated at a moment's notice.
>>
>>38739836
...yes? As in underneath the facility, deep underground.

Sewers actually require a fair amount of surveying and maintenance, you know, even if this facility is largely automated.

Also hobos. Or Taidaren.

is it possible for us to make a new small sized dedicated combat drone? Baring that can we morph a chimera into a new egg layer? Also can we please try and experiment using that mind control spore, human genetics and nanomachines for delivery? We could make a crazy method of mass parasite injection/infection....
>>
>>38739689
Ok then who else here thinks we should start thinking about how to design our the aerial combat arm of the hive? QD just updated the pastebin with a bunch of new aerodynamic drones, we should probably start thinking about how many of them we're going to lay.

http://pastebin.com/EyHX9rZu
>>
>>38739820
We could have a vote to up that to 1000 bio tanks or so to cover both? We'll also need parasites for every one of the hybrid clones, possibly more.
>>
>>38739866
Any workers we find we can just clone them and have them go about their business, they can't tell about us if they're not them.

Plus, nobody's going to miss hobo's.
>>
>>38739880
>Baring that can we morph a chimera into a new egg layer?
That's what we're fucking doing anon. That chimera egg layer can then lay a regular egglayer so it can go back to being a hybrid.
>>
>>38739850
I think this might be good if it digs into the planet and makes like an ant hive, we need to be careful however as that kind of thing would certainly piss off the local government and make me pick a fight we dont need right now. I know QD is saving some crazy asshole OP void alien bullshit for the moment we try to go full conquer on the universe and cripple one of the major (see ally agaisnt common foe) factions out there.
>>
>>38739900
Why don't we keep the biotanks to 500 in number, no need to go overboard. I mean, the things cost of 50N a pop, and we're not going to be using them for anything after the Skyl cloning project is done.

That takes five fucking days anon. That is a terribly suspicious absence in which they will send more workers, causing an exponential buildup of people we have to replace. What you want is malleable genetics conversion into hybrids with parasites. Which still takes 24 hours.

It will just start sucking out all the metals in the planet. Depending on how rich the planet in question is in usable metals, that could range from anywhere between "a decent amount" "lots" and "oh god what will I do with all of this metal". The downside is that it won't last forever. At the moment your mines would last for a long time before drying up, but they don't bring in that much at a time.

Letting smart mines loose on Leeland would likely bring in around 100,000 metals per day.

>>38740021
Of course!

>>
>>38740103
I'd prefer to use that on planets that aren't our homeworld to be honest.
>>
In light of the enemy having antimatter bombs that can completely destroy planets, I was thinking in terms of ecological preservation. We could, with cloning ability, re-create the ecosystem in its entirety if we had the genetic archives of every single population on the planet. But to make it into Very Easy cloning projects instead of Very Hard, you have to clone them once already. What if we set some thinkers to go mad with cloning, terminating the clones once they're mature, solely to make cloning them easy in the future? Combined with implanted parasites preserving all the memories and knowledge of the more intelligent creatures, everything about the planet can be stored in the hive.
>>
>>38740005
Of course we're going to fuck them over. I'm just saying that they wouldn't be much help... You know, cause they're shit...

It's essentially just a new ability of your infrastructure, which allows mining much more rapidly and more efficiently. Since the metals are brought back up to easily accessed growths it doesn't do much harm on the local life itself.

>Letting smart mines loose on Leeland would likely bring in around 100,000 metals per day.

>>
Oh, I guess we should start producing some fusion reactors, human style, to sell on Space eBay so that they're done at the same time the 100 hybrid clones are done.

The original USV Clarke had 50ish crew, so 50 of them stay onboard the now nameless merchant vessel as the official yet utterly unnecessary "crew" as cover, while the other 50 are just hitching a ride to immigrate to Deep Song, or to whatever other planets they can spread out to and infiltrate from there.
>>
>>38740135
I'm totally up for doing this.
>>
>>38740343
We really should give the totally-not-the-Clarke a makeover and give it heavy armor again. Way back in the early threads, I think it was said that it ended up pretty lightly armored after repairs? And it's missing shield generators too, which burnt out on entry. We have that tech now so we can re-add it.

...how unusual is it to see a Stiletto-class corvette with a quantum power tap, heavy armor, and shields that isn't military owned? We have to check how attention-grabbing that would be.
>>
>>38740381
Just give it medium armor, that way it won't look too suspicious.
>>
Can we make a bunch of Clone Troopers of Lyle?

He can be our Jango Fett.
>>
>>38740410
Unless heavy armor is more common after all, since weight is no object with the gravity drive. We literally have no idea, we have to check what's common for merchant or pirate vessels.
>>
>>38740410
Even then, it's going to be blatantly obvious it was repaired by someone who wasn't human. The hive's metal work looks nothing like it's human equivalent.
>>
>>38740373

I don't really see much point in risking the Clarke on espionage missions. Our own ships are completely undetectable to the Union, and the risk of someone identifying the Clarke even after extensive modification is too great. Besides, it's what houses the instance of Theseus we do all of our negotiating with, and I'd rather not jeopardize him in such a way.

>>38740548
This is not a mission that is even possible to send a cloaked ship. It has to be a ship that can masquerade as normal and human-crewed so the hybrids onboard can go sell the fusion reactors and the captain hybrid can set up a bank account. Then we use the proceeds to buy an entirely new ship, and we don't have to use Theseus as our delivery boy again.
>>
>>38740548
We have contact with all the other instances of Theseus, and we're heavily modifying the Clarke. The chance of them recognizing it are zero to none.
>>
>>38740176
Just to clarify, the metal wont last forever because it's an incredibly efficient and much faster method of harvesting the metal that is present NOT because it's somehow destroying a metal source that would otherwise last indefinitely?

They're just wondering if this runs off of real world logic or video game logic, where in some games a resource node can last literally forever as long as you don't take the "strip mine" option.
>>
>>38740574
Look man it'll still be pretty clear it's a warship in design, and that'll raise no end of eyebrows in port of call it tries to dock in. Any warship not identifying itself as a part of the Union Navy is going to raise a crapload of red flags. It won't take an incredibly thorough examination for someone to link it to the USV Clarke. Especially considering it was only shot down a few months prior. Over our own planet no less. How long do you think it'll take for somebody to connect the dots and figure out it must've come from Leeland then? It's just too damn risky.

We'd be better asking Theseus where we could acquire a civilian vessel for discreet trade within the Union. He's already got extensive contact within the economic structure anyway.

>>
>>38740644
Oh, no. The metal sources would have run out eventually, this just gives us all the metal much faster rather than less straight up but the mine lasts longer.

With both options the maximum number of resources is the same, but with smart mines we get those resources much faster and upfront.
>>
>>38740661
>it's a warship in design,
It's a reconnaissance ship, but sure. I don't think the Valen have eyebrows to raise though, literally or metaphorically in this case. The cover could be smugglers from the Commonwealth, which seems more likely than the dead ship their satellite told them had been reduced to a crater in the ground.

>>38740613
Correct. Your current rate of metal extraction makes it last longer because you are spending more time to get less metals per day, while the smart mines get lots and lots of metals per day over a shorter time span. They will both bring you the same total in the long run. As for disruptions to the planet, the worst issues it would cause are occasional sink holes.

>>38740644
That would only apply to nutrient when Overharvesting, and even then such an event won't effect the output of your hive's internal farms, only strip the wildlife.

Except no. The whole point of that post is that it requires a parasite inside the clones to do it. That is the sole requirement to transform non-drones, and it isn't being met here.
