Vulpix is a little faster.

Should be able to get underground with Dig before it can unleash a Water move.

We're betting on Furby being excited because he just counterpicked into us, making him want to use a Water move and not Earthquake.
>>
>>38732296
You don't want to dig while there's something that can use earthquake on the field
>>
>>38732322
EQ will take out Vulpix in any case.
>>
>>38732322
This. It hinges on whether raistlin can knock out metagross before it starts using eq allowing vulpix to get a dig in on empoleon.
>>
>>38732322
Fucking this. And that Empoleon WILL EQ. There is no reason for him to not do that. Vulpix is weak to it, is isnt stopped by Sunny Day, AND its has a VERY high chance of killing Rastlin at the same time.
>>
>>38732363
Shit did not consider emp was using eq , thougt it was metagross. Ok bad idea
>>
>>38732296
EQ gets underground boost if we dig, and Aqua Jet still hits first even if it's weakened. We could literally lose on this round if he chooses Bullet Punch+EQ. Possibly even Bullet Punch+Aqua Jet.
>>
>>38732322
It'll miss with Hydro pump, then next turn Vulpix, with Vulpix being Faster, will hit with Dig and then surface, and it'll use Earth quake with Vulpix avoiding most of the damage

>>38732363
>>38732322
>>38732367
Might be counting on Meta to EQ and will be surprised when our 150ish speed Alakazam one hit's him with HP Fire
>>
Just remind me why we started with trunks and not nibbles again?
>>
>>38732423
Because Nibbles would have fallen in one or two hits to any Steel attack, being weak to them, and his only effective move would have taken out Robins pokemon too.
>>
>>38732204
Come on gobble the suspense over whether we'll survive this round is killing us
>>
>>38732404
He might be counting on it's tankyness to want to get off that extra bit of damage to both.

>>38732423
Magnet rise
>>
>>38732408
He is NOT stupid. He is a gym Leader for a reason and we have NO prority.
>>38732453
ITS FUN.
>>
>>38732479
My heart may not last much longer
>>
>>38732423
>Starting with Nibbles against Steelix, one of the biggest physical walls, and Skarmory, the biggest one, who also happens to be immune to earthquake
>>
>>38732458
So we're betting on Furby using Earth Quake in the hopes it can get it off before or tank one hit from alakazam (being resistant to most of his damage dealing moves) Because what he doesn't know is we've got more speed than he thinks and we've got a move that will one hit him.
>>
We so should not have taken up the offer of a double battle
>>
>>38732499
Fuck your weak-ass heart then. Im enjoying myself IMMENSELY.
>>
>>38732524
But then it would have been easy.
>>
This guy really isn't fucking around, is he? No cute tricks or anything, just beating face with what looks like his A-team.
>>
>>38732524
Yeah, I hate to say it but Robin has really been holding us back this battle. Not only is her team really bad against Steel, but she's super fucking nervous too.
But it does add to the drama, and make for a better show for both us, and our in game audience.
>>
>>38732555
Yep no holds barred poke battle with the girlfriend.
>>
Are we all glossing over that this guy is sporting a hard on while we kick the shit out of each other?
>>
>>38732555
What do you expect from the guy in charge of the steel gym.
>>
>>38732516
This is all with the Metagross.

Cause he wants to be able to use a Water type move on Vulpix because he just counterpicked into him and It's better at Sp Atts anyway. Meta is naturally better at Earthquake so it would be natural for him to prefer Meta to do it. He also if confident in his Metas tankyness and we're hoping he believes he can take 2 hits from us, when we actually have a move that will get off and kill him before he uses Earthquake, leaving Emp with a missed Hydro pump because Robin Dug.

Keep in mid he's only a 1 trainer giving orders to 2 poke they they will be naturally slower.

“Don’t give them a chance Metagross! Bullet Punch!

The massive, heavy Pokemon flies at Raistlin with unreasonable speed! Raistin is struck before he has a chance to teleport back.

The Alakazam doesn’t take kindly to this. You know Raistlin. He doesn’t get as outwardly furious as some other Pokemon. He’s cold and calculating. He teleports around Metagross, pelting it with Hidden Power Fire. Everytime Metagross tries to adjust itself to avoid being hit somewhere sensitive, Raistlin teleports to the other side and hits it some more.

Raistlin’s attack finally subsides, and Metagross slowly walks towards. Raistlin doesn’t flinch or attempt to move. Metagross falls at his feet. The wind from it’s collapse blows Raistlin’s mustache back.

“Dig,” Robin says with newfound confidence. Before Vulpix can perform the move though, a thought suddenly strikes her. “Wait! No! Will-O-Wisp!”

Vulpix stops itself from performing dig and quickly fires off a Will-O-Wisp instead. It lands on Empoleon neatly.

Robin sighs in relief, but she’s still shaking.

Furby glances at his defeated Metagross in surprise, then turns his attention to his remaining Pokemon. “Just a little more Empoleon! Earthquake! Don’t hold back!” He retrieves Metagross.

The blue Pokemon unleashes another Earthquake, causing the ground to shake and rumble. Vulpix is struck first. The small Pokemon flies backward. She manages to right herself before landing, but she’s really hurt.

(continued)
>>
>>38732585
I think it has more to do with the cameras being around and her dratini and evolving during battle. She has gotten over most, or at least some of her nerves about being in a double battle I think. After her dragonair was knocked out is when she started being down on herself.
>>
>>38732585
She has been dead weight in this battle, basically just gave us 3 more pokes to KO as her team is weak anyway esp. Vs steel as you say. You're right of course, it makes for thrilling viewing for the show

The ground rumbles and waves of moving earth strike Raistlin too. He’s bowled over. You sigh in relief as he struggles to his feet.

You doubt either Pokemon would be fighting if Empoleon wasn’t burnt.

“I’m going to use Protect. I don’t think we can do enough damage before it Earthquakes again.” Robin’s voice shakes. She seems like she has another plan. Can you really trust her on this? She's not at her best right now.

Focus Blast might finish it, but there’s a chance it’ll miss. Psychic won’t hit as hard, but it’s much more dependable. You can only use something as weak as Confusion while trying to dodge, but you might get lucky.

Both Raistlin and Vulpix are heavily damaged, while Empoleon is only mildy hurt from the burn.

So since Raistlin has improved speed and is very experienced with his teleport i vote that for next turn he teleports in a focus blasts from right behind him and teleport out.

Rolled 4 (1d100)

You squeeze Robin’s hand to show her you trust her judgement. You let her go with her plan and you focus on your own. Maybe you can knock it out first and she won’t even need to do it!

“Protect!” Robin yells to Vulpix. You hope she knows what she’s doing.

“Raistlin! Teleport up close and Focus Blast for all your might!”

Your Alakazam gives a quick nod before disappearing. He shocks everyone by appearing again right behind Empoleon.

“Such speed.” You hear from Furby.

Raistlin charges a powerful ball of fighting energy and blasts it at the surprised Empoelon.

>18 (would have succeeded on 20 by getting so close)

Even though it’s surprised, Empoleon moves just slightly back. It misses by a hair strikes the ground it’s standing on, causing a powerful and large cloud of dust to come flying up.

Empoleon grins wickedly. It doesn’t even need to hear Furby’s command. It raises itself up then stomps down to summon another Earthquake.

>8

“Raistlin! Get out of there!”

It’s too late. He pushed too hard. If Earthquake wasn’t such a wide area attack, or if Raistlin used a more conservative move like Confusion he may have dodged. But he doesn’t. The Earthquake rolls over Raistlin, sending him flying into the wall. He slams against it hard and doesn’t get up.

Vulpix remains untouched thanks to Protect, but Robin turns a pale white. “I-I thought you’d hit it. I was counting on Empoleon being more hurt.”

You see the referee wave a flag. “Alakazam is unable to battle.”

Robin’s nearly tearing up. This clearly wasn’t her plan. She was betting you’d chip down Empoleon. This is bad.

“You fought well,” Furby announces. “You can forfeit if you’d like.”

Robin freezes, then sighs. “No. I want to go until the end.” She squeezes your hand.

Furby sighs. “Just like your father.” Robin looks like she’s been slapped in the face. You don’t think he meant that maliciously, but it did sound a bit disappointed. He thinks Robin’s pointlessly getting Vulpix hurt. To be honest, you have your concerns too. But you trust her. “Empoleon. Finish this with one last Earthquake.”

>84

“Burn needs more time,” She mutters to herself, then turns to Vulpix and shouts. “Protect! Again!”

It’s a desperation move. The odds of that working twice in a row aren’t great.

>67

The ground blows over Vulpix. Robin flinches as Vulpix disappears under the waves of earth.

But Vulpix is still there. Protect worked a second time! Nobody can believe it. Especially not Robin.

“Vulpix! Hurry and use Hex!”

It’s probably one of the sloppiest, most embarrassing displays you’ve ever seen from one of Robin’s Pokemon. The move fires off, veering left and right. You feel Robin’s hand crushing yours, but you barely feel it.

It suddenly veers down before striking Empoleon, then bounces off the reflective metal and strikes it from below, knocking it’s beak up and it’s lights out.

There’s silence.

“Em-” The referee coughs. “Empoleon is unable to battle. Victory goes to the challengers.”

You turn to Robin, words escaping you for a second.

She’s dead pale, like she’s seen a ghost. She must be in shock.

You slowly become overtaken with an awkward, slightly unhinged laugh. The adrenaline in your system suppresses your ability to not look like a freak.

You grab a hold of her had hug and jump and lift and spin her. It takes a while before she comes back to you.

“W-we won.” She says, still staring off into the distance, but with a smile budging it’s way onto her face.

Vulpix comes running and and Robin covers it in hugs, kisses, and praise. It mews adorably. You praise it too. You really didn’t expect it to survive.

Your friends rush into you like an avalanche of love. Vance lifts you both up and Jeanine and Clair squish you.

Furby approaches, looking knowingly happy. “Now that was a battle.”

You give Robin a quick extra hug and turn to him. "Now I see why Gym Leaders prefer Single Battles, I don't think anyone would believe that battle just happened"

He laughs, then points to the camera crew that’s rushing over. “It’s a good thing you have proof.” He produces two badges. “Now, I’d say you’ve earned these twice over.”

You gleefully accept the badges and his praise.

“Now then. Like some other gyms, this one has a tradition. Any victors are allowed anything within reason from my blacksmithing station. What do you say? I’m pretty good at it, so don’t be shy.”

You look over at his station. He has molds as well as completed projects scattered all over.

“Can you make a ring?”

Robin perks up. “M-me too!”

He laughs. “I have a really good idea then. Come on,” he invites you over to his blacksmithing table, but points to a nearby station. “It doesn’t look like it, but that right there is a healing station. Just as good as anything at the Pokemon center. Built it myself.” He puts his Pokemon it in.

You and Robin do the same. While that’s going, he gets to work at the anvil.

“Kat! Robin!” The director calls you as Furby works in the background. He looks like you just gave him a house made out of solid gold. “Truly amazing!” He leans back. “Erin, Timothy, introductions, chop chop!” The director waves them over to you and then starts going over footage with the cameraman.

Erin and Timothy look about your age, or maybe a little older.

“Hey,” the girl shakes your hand. “I’m Erin. This is Tim. Don’t call him Timothy.”

“I hate that,” He mutters as he shakes your hand. “That was amazing you two!”

“Really great,” Erin agrees. “So, for the rest of the crew. You’ve seen Haunter,” she points overhead, then down to a Pokemon at her side. “This is Tim’s Meowth. He loves showbusiness and helps around.”

A bird Pokemon lands on Tim’s head. “This is Erin’s Pidgeotto. It hates everything, especially helping.”

She laughs. “The camera guy is Dave. Don’t let his weight fool you, he can keep up.” She points to the director next. “That’s Mr Kroustou. Director, producer, and boss. I’m pretty sure he wants to marry you both right now.”

“Eww,” Clair says, looking at the much older man.

“Err, sorry. That sounds weird the way I said it,” Erin corrects herself. “Tim and I are assistants. Anything you need, just ask.”

Furby invites Jeanine over to ask her some questions. He says it’s to surprise you and Robin.

You cackle a bit and tap your fingers together. “Finally! My own minions!” You snap your fingers. “Soft drink. Now.”

They recoil, suddenly regretting everything.

You laugh. “Don’t worry. We don’t boss you around,” you assure them. They look visibly relieved.

Clair folds her arms. “Speak for yourse-”

Vance covers her mouth and pulls her back. “None of us,” he loudly and slowly repeats, “will boss you around.”

“Thanks,” Tim says. Erin nods in agreement.

You get a little more serious. “Look, we get into some pretty insane ridiculous stuff. Organized crime cartels, corruption, legendaries. Some of it is stuff that’s probably better left unfilmed.”

Erin looks sympathetic. “Mr. Kroustou gets final say on what gets recorded and aired, but...” she sighs, “we’ll try to respect. No promises though.”

You guess you can’t ask for more than that for now. “Thanks. Is there anything we should know? This is a new experience for us.”

Tim throws his hands behind his head. “Us too. I guess if I had to say anything, it’d be not to do anything in front of the camera you don’t want the public to see.”

“All done!” Furby announces as he takes his protective face gear off. His tongs have two rings. He grabs them as soon as they’re cool enough, then presents them to you and Robin.

They have intricate detailing of each off your Pokemon. Even a Golbat and a Magnezone. Robin’s has all of her Pokemon too.

“To commemorate two friends working together,” Furby says proudly.

“Wow! These look amazing! Thanks.” You hold Robin’s hand, “but we’re more than friends.”

That’s probably the most mature and classy way you’ve let someone know. Usually you just violate Robin in front of people. All eyes fall on the two of you and she turns bright red. You feel just a small tinge of guilt at how much you like that because she always looks so cute when it happens. Tim subtly slip Erin a bill as she very quietly tells him she called it.

He laughs. “Well, either way, it was a great battle.”

“Can I ask you a question?” You walk a bit away with Furby. You wait until you’re out of earshot. “Why didn’t you use Aqua Jet?”

He stiffens up a little, then sighs. “You mean right at the end? I considered it a few times, but Earthquake kept being my best option, I thought.”

“But you could have won. Aqua Jet would have taken out Vulpix right at the end.”

“You think I let her win.” He looks off into the distance. “Truth be told, I was so shocked that I froze up. I thought I crushed that poor little Vulpix.”

>You don’t believe him. He’s a pro.

Let's word it more diplomatically toward Robin, though, we don't want to remind her of her mistakes.

We had some nice combos but Robins pokemon were underleveled and we didn't have enough time of damage spamming.

This was like, the the closest gym battle, if not the closest battle overall as far a we can remember. Let's tell him that.

You look into his face, searching for a tell to see if he’s lying. You can’t find anything to indicate it though.

“Well, we made a lot of mistakes too.” You say, making sure not to single out Robin. “I guess that’s just how it goes sometimes. Still, that was the closest, most intense battle I’ve had against a trainer. I was worried I was going to lose that for Robin. Do you have any advice?”

He pats you on the back, not unlike how Vance does. “I’ve battled a lot and don’t have many fights I can remember that compare. Maybe my fight with Cliff. He won too.” He sighs, but not in regret. “But don’t worry too much about if you lose or win. It’s the friends you make and the road you choose that’s important. You’ve got the right stuff, Kat. You and Robin.” He must see the look on your face. “Just keep enjoying your journey. You’ll both learn what you need if you keep trying.”

With that, you give your farewell and leave, camera crew in tow.

It’s late afternoon now. The camera crew follows behind, trying not to interfere. “Just pretend we’re not here, like when you were battling,” The direct says when Vance peers back.

He turns back to the rest of you and pulls out a map. “So, uhh, are we going to Faeden next?”

“What’s that island?” Jeanine points to the little bit on the edge of the map.

“Lace Point,” Robin informs her. “I-I don’t know anything about the gym there though.”

Eyes turn to Clair. “Hey, don’t look at me. Not all gym leaders know each other you know.”

Interesting that Buzzport is the last Gym most trainers would hit before the Pokemon League. IIRC, Bugs generally are one of the weaker types.
>>
>>38736989

So, we take a ferry over to Lace Point, then take water pokemon south-west to the road heading straight into Faeden.
Then from Faeden we follow the southern shore of the lake to Ampburg. From there we follow the road to Buzzport.
Then from Buzzport on to the League...
>>
>>38737156
>IIRC, Bugs generally are one of the weaker types
Not as such, there are just a lot of weak beginner friendly bugs. The type itself is pretty solid, and has some very strong members.
>>

After a significant loss and/or crisis of purpose/identity, we could always go there to 'find ourselves' or meditate, or simply for some intensive training...

That, or Hornbeam has set up shop in a Lab built into the mountain and we have to infiltrate it through some caves higher up in the mountain which are used for ventilation...

Either or. I'm not fussed...

Robin's dad has been pretty vocal about wanting Robin to take over. Technically anybody who can show they can do the job make try to make a bid for it, but so far nobody has had the guts to actually go for it against his wishes.

Guess I'm still too used to thinking of it like Generation 1, where most of them were part Poison and the ones that weren't didn't know any Bug-type moves.
>>
>>38737588
There were only 2 bug type moves in gen 1, Pin Missile and Twinneedle. And Twinneedle was only available to Beedrill. I cant even remember any mons besides Jolteon that could learn Pin Missile. You not mistaken to think that way. However both Scyther and Pinsir were in gen 1, admittedly they were very weak back then due to the utter dominance of Psychic types in gen 1, (seriously the Special stat, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...fucking no). However it has been 6 gens since then. Bugs have gotten significantly stronger since then and Psychic has been utterly cut down to size.
>>
>>38737588
Yeah, Gen 1 was pretty much just Psychic > You thanks to no real effective counters.
>So many bug/poisons and ghost/poisons
>>
>>38737588
Its still one of the weaker types, as it is.
It got some decent pokemon, but every type does.

Well, except Ice.
Poor Ice.
>>
>>38737690
Yeah I still don't get the logic in making the pokemon that allegedly can counter psychics actually be weak against psychic attacks.
>>
>>38737690
Ghost didnt even effect Psychic like it was supposed to until Gen 2. Seriously Gen 1 was a fucking horrid glitchfest. Even as a pokemon fanatic, i cannot in good faith recommend a player who never played in Kanto to play R/B/Y. Ill always recommend FR/LG, because they had the running shoes, (one of the best things ever devised by Game Freak) and it wasnt a buggy mess.

I always headcanoned it as Mewto psychically fucking with the whole region to buff the everliving shit out of psychics and drive away their natural enemies - so by the time you visit in Gold/Silver, Red's already caught/driven off Mewto and restored a semblance of balance to the region.
>>
>>38737802
Not in Gen 1, since there were literally 3 Dragons in the whole Generation and all of them were borderline impossible to get easily.

Psychics were not only stupid powerful, they were easy to get.
>>
>>38737532
Pokemon that walk around without Pokeballs? Happens all the time. Especially ones that are more pets or helpers around the house instead of battlers.

Trainers whose Pokemon never, ever go in a Pokeball? Eccentric. Trainers travel, and long journeys can wear out a Pokemon. Plus there's the surprise element that goes with it. Depends entirely on the circumstances though. A little Pikachu on your shoulder is cute and nobody would care. Walk around with a large Scyther behind you or a massive Onix and you'll draw some eyes
>>
>>38737889
How weird would it be for a trainer to walk around with all six of their pokemon behind them. Fully evolved and everything?
>>
>>38737802
Gen 1 had only 2 dragons from the same line. And in all cases Dragonite was not the powerhouse he became in gens 2-4 back then. The reason the dragon typing is so powerful in game is due to the fact that OVERWHELMINGLY Dragons have massive movepools and insanely high BSTs (Base Stat Totals for the uninformed). Hell a ful 1/3 of dragon mons are default legandaries and another 1/2 are BST 600s (The highest BST you can get on a non legendary mon) This makes like 90% of Dragon mons horridly powerful and allows them to make major waves in any game type the can be found in.
>>
>>38737889
So, Riding Nibbles around like a big lizardey horse would be odd or just cool?
>>
>>38737840
I've always had a dratini whenever I played them. Sometimes is even go around with a team of them. Though if you were desperate the casino sold them as well I think.
>>
>>38737937
The only game that the casino sold them in was Blue back then. The only other place to find them was fishing in that god forsaken lake in the safari zone.
>>
>>38737937
Then all I can say, sir, is that you have (had?) no life.

Dratinis were one of the biggest pains in the arse to get outside of legendaries or Safari Parkers in Gen 1
