You are Captain WILLIAM PIERCE, a combat rescue officer of the United States Air Force.

"Are you sure about this?" Anderson asks. "Is this even going to work?"

"It's the only way to guarantee Takakura is out of his office, right?" You maintain. "Seeing his own daughter battle one of the most feared and well respected samurai witches?"

"It WOULD give him a good boost to his popularity, regardless of the outcome." Anderson nods. "And Takefuji is okay with this? Did you even tell her the full plan?"

"Of course I did." You roll your eyes. "Who do you think I am? I guy that can't trust his own subordinates?"

In fact, Jetstream was more than eager to help. Turns out, her family had a bit of a rivalry with the Takakuras. As Jetstream had explained, while the Takefujis were a samurai family, the Takauras were in fact descended from an old ninja clan, hence why many of them were in the intelligence service or secret police rather than the army. Misono was a bit of an outlier, opting to follow the samurai codes rather than the ninja ones.

"Ha, very funny." Anderson shakes his head. "But that takes care of one of our problems. What about insertion? Have you decided on what method to take?"

You review the options again. The IIS Headquarters was a large complex. The central tower was the most likely area where sensitive data would be held. The problem was getting there. One option was an aerial insertion on the roof, but that was naturally dangerous, since even with stealth measures there was still the risk of being seen, especially at lower altitudes. The second option was to have the infiltration break in from ground level with the Ghost Hawk acting as aerial recon and air support. Less chance of detection on the initial approach, but things would take a lot longer.

>>

>>
>>38733430
You think people won't notice parachutists trying to land on the roof? You might as well have them repel down from the chopper, it's faster and less complicated.
>>
>>38733430
We would be incredibly visible leaving the helicopter, you would be an idiot to assume the enemy doesn't have people looking up at the skies. Not to mention, even at maximum altitude for a helo, that is INCREDIBLY UNSAFE for any form of parachuting, especially with the gear we'd be packing.

We risk the helo, and our people, to pull off a jackass stunt someone saw in a videogame one time.

"I think it's safer to go in by ground. I'm sure the IIS has methods of detecting insertion by air." You say.

"Fair enough." Anderson nods.

You review the plan again. At least on your end, things were simple. All you had to do was orbit the area, look out for any threats, and provide extraction when needed. Besides, Tarin would be part of the infiltration team. They were in good hands.

"No, I'm ready." You say. "Let's get this started."

"All right. You've already been approved to take the Ghost Hawk out for night training. Nobody will ask questions."

"Thanks." You nod.

---

"Okay, I've got eyes on what I believe to be Takakura." Bullseye says.

"You 'believe?'" You ask skeptically.

"Hey, all that show up on thermals are these white splotches, to pick up shit hiding and bushes and stuff like that, not to pick out faces. Not exactly high resolution stuff we're talking about here."

You look at the screen mounted in the cockpit and see one little white blob surrounded by over a score of other blobs. You couldn't think of anybody else that could warrant so much protection.

"Yeah, I think that's our guy." You nod. "All right, Possum, this is Owl, the weasel has left the building."

"Roger that, Owl." Tarin replies curtly. "Beginning our infiltration."

Down below, you could the see the the silhouettes of the assault team through your nightvision goggles, their locations marked by flashing beacons only visible through your optics. There were no more than four individuals. One was Tarin and the other three were CIA Special Activities Division personnel. Any larger team would risk detection. They come up to the perimeter wall and take shelter underneath.

"Owl, we're at the perimeter wall. Do you see any threats?"

You glance down from your orbiting position, looking for any signs of movement. There seemed to be a single sentry on the other side of the wall, on a designated patrol route. If you waited ten more seconds, he'd be well out of range of sight and hearing. Then again, you could have Janice, Ghost, or Nungesser swoop down and knock him out. You had protocols in place in case the guards had regular check ins, anyways.

Trufacts: Carrier was fucked the moment the dreadnaughts got in range for direct fire. With that much concentration of force from both sides in one place no one was coming out unscathed. Well, no point interrupting his patrol. If you remembered the briefing correctly, the perimeter patrols had a roughly fifteen second interval. More than enough time for Tarin and her team.

"You're clear." You say as you watch the guard round the corner. "Fifteen seconds until the next patrol."

"Roger."

You then see one of the figures, no doubt Tarin, start boosting her three teammates over the wall. They quickly clamber over while Tarin scales the wall herself. They drop into the courtyard and take cover behind a parked truck just as the next patrol passes by.

"Jesus, Cap, I'm not even on the ground and I"m already sweating." Red remarks. "This is some pretty intense shit."

"It's only going to get worse from here. They're not even inside the building yet, where we have no clear visuals."

Indeed, the main tower was one of those traditional Japanese castles, converted to house modern equipment, but still keeping their classical exteriors. As a result, windows were few and far between. You couldn't even imagine how claustrophobic it would be to actually be inside there.

"All right, we're breaching the building." Tarin says. "We'll be comms only at this point."

"Roger that." You confirm. "Good luck."

"Thanks." Tarin says before she and her team silently pry open a service door and slide in.

"Bullseye, you still have a visual on Takakura's convoy?" You ask.

>>
>>38735481
"All right, let's keep a holding pattern above the castle." You say.

"Got it." Bullseye nods as he continues holding the the circling pattern around the complex. So far so good, it looked like things were going on as normal around the building. The guards looked relaxed and in no particular hurry as they patrolled.

"Possum, what's you're status?" You ask, looking for an update to ease your anxiety.

"We've reached the central server room, and we're digging through the files to try and find anything we could use. Might take a while, unless you want us to just start pulling entire server blocks, but then they'd definitely know something is up."

Well, there were contingencies in place in case your presence was detected. Anderson had set things up so that the SAD infiltration would look like a Spetsnaz op. It was easy to deflect attention when there was an obvious enemy to focus on, after all."

"Keep searching. They haven't caught on yet." You announce. "You might as well not be there."

"Roger. Give us some time."

A few very long minutes pass as you continue to circle. Every new arrival to the complex sends a stab of fear into your heart, as it might be the sign of reinforcements arriving or somebody coming to investigate. However, every time, these fears were unfounded, as all of the incoming traffic are there for legitimate purposes. You're starting to understand why Red was so anxious.

"Daaaaaamn. If I don't stab or break something I'm gonna go NUTS." Red growls.

"Now now, you just have to be patient. These people are still our allies, after all." Janice warns.

"Red's right. I'm soooooo bored!" Nungesser whines.

"Quiet, you two!" Ghost hisses. "No unnecessary radio traffic!"

Well, at least those new F-22 strikers they were using were proving their worth. Nobody seemed to even be aware of three witches floating above their heads, much less the stealth helo.

"Owl, we have a problem." Tarin says, just as short and to the point as ever. "There's a section of the database that's completely partitioned off from the rest of the system. The only way to unlock is... from the Director himself."

"Shit." You seethe. "What are our options?"

"One, we just physically pull the server and decrypt it later, but there might be failsafes in place in case somebody tries that. The other alternative is breaking into Takakura's office, but without his access key we're sure to set off an alarm, unless you're willing to do a bit of property damage."

"What kind of damage?" You ask warily.

"Cutting the power to the entire building." Tarin says simply.

"Hey, wait a minute." Red pipes up. "The thing is, we KNOW where Takakura is and we've got people close to him! Can't we just yank the key off him?"

"Possible, yes." Tarin agrees.

"All right. I'll head up to the office and prepare to breach. My power should be able to get me past the cameras." Tarin says.

"What do you need us to do?" You ask.

"If you remember the map, there should be a small building near the perimeter, with power lines feeding in from the outside. All you need to do is the use the Ghost Hawk to cut the power lines-"

"Whoa whoa WHOA." Bullseye butts in. "You want me to FLY into high voltage power lines?"

"The Ghost Hawk has wire cutting blades equipped for that exact situation, doesn't it?" Tarin asks.

"Well yeah, but for accidental impacts, not deliberate ones!" Bullseye quips.

"Remember, NONLETHAL." You remind her. "These guys may just be doing their jobs, so be careful."

"Right, right." Red nods.

"Okay, where do you want me to put down?" Bullseye asks as he hovers the Ghost Hawk over the power station. Thanks to the Ghost Hawk's silent running technology.

You glance at the ground. There were open spaces on both sides of the wall, large enough for the Ghost Hawk to land on either side. Landing on the inside meant you were closer to the station for quicker insertion and exit, but there was a greater chance of detection. Landing outside the wall could conceal your approach, but it would be more difficult reaching the station, and time was of the essence on this op.

Pierce wouldn't know more, but he would know enough as his job as Crew Chief, its his responsibility to spot terrain for the pilots so they can respond properly, its his job to notify them of clearances and cover their blindspots.

The reason that stealth hawk crashed in IB when loaded with Seals hunting UBL was because the crew chief failed to properly judge the height of the compound wall when wearing his nods, the pilot went to low over it and lost air, it was a miracle he managed to stick the tail boom onto the wall and put it down belly first, if he didn't it was a surety that it would have hit hard and rolled, likely with several casualties.

"Let's put her in the inside." You say. "In an out without them realizing a thing."

"That's what she said." Bullseye jokes weakly.

Even with running lights off and sound dampened rotors, the one thing the Ghost Hawk couldn't hide efficiently was the rotor backwash. The moment the Ghost Hawk touched down, you only had a minute or two. Maybe even less. The moment the Ghost Hawk descends to a safe distance, you and Red leap out, landing on the ground on your two feet.

"Go!" You hiss as you point to the power station both you and Red dash up to it, taking position at the door. You glance through the small, reinforced window and could see the main power switches. Unfortunately, there were also a pair of technicians in the building, too. Monitoring a wall of monitors and displays.

"Should we take them out?" Red whispers.

"Wait." You say and peek again. It looks like their backs were turned to the door. You could easily sneak attack them, or you could just sneak past. Even if they were present when the power went down, it wasn't a simple matter of throwing the switches back. Restoring all functions after a sudden shutdown took time, after all.

"No buts, Lieutenant. Just get in there and do the job."

"Right, right." Red sighs. "Okay, I'm good."

"All right. I'll keep watch." You say. "Go!"

You silently and slowly turn the handle, which wasn't even locked, surprisingly enough. Red slowly and quietly sneaks her way across the hallway. The technicians don't suspect a thing, and continue working at their stations. Red finally reaches the main switches and gives a silent three count before flipping every single one she sees before quickly flipping them back to mask the fact that they were tampered with.

And then everything goes dark.

(cont)
>>
>>38738066
Immediately, the technicians start screaming in alarm, their rapid fire Japanese filling the room, proving more than enough to cover the sound of Red sprinting out of the room. You see flashlights snap on as the technicians quickly try to figure out what's gone wrong.

"Power's down, Tarin! Go go go!" You yell as you sprint back to the Ghost Hawk.

"Roger that. Breaching." Tarin says. "I'm in. Unlocking system access now."

"Good!" You yell as you leap back into the Ghost Hawk. "Bullseye get us up!"

"Going!" Bullseye nods as he feeds more power to the engine and the Ghost Hawk claws its way into the air. You look down to see headlights of vehicles and flashlights moving around the grounds rapidly as security tried to get a handle on the situation."

"We got the data." Tarin reports. "Extracting. What's the situation outside?"

"We just hit the hornet's nest." You report.

"That means we either have to hijack ground transport or extract via the roof-"

"Uh, we have a problem!" Ghost whimpers. "The complex is launching witches! Four total!"

Shit, you didn't expect witches to be stationed here. Probably covert ops working for IIS. Having them in the air would make approaching the castle by air extremely dangerous.

You can't just upscale a UPS for an entire facility without having a power plant just for that facility by itself, this isn't hollywood anon.

Uh, yeah? Real-world facilities like this usually have separate generators, and not an entire power plant to support them.

They also don't run both systems at the same time 24/7, you underestimate how complex and labor intensive the process is to bring them online fast if you suddenly lose main power without expecting an outage. They would have smaller generators running 24/7 for things like temp controlled super computers and other sensitive stuff, but not the entire facility.

"Possum, be advised, we have sparkles in the air. We cannot maintain position in the air." You announce. "You'll be on your own from this point on."

"Roger that." Tarin says, her tone not even changing, as if she expected something like this to happen. "Time for Plan B. Meet us at LZ Charlie."

"Aw, no, you don't mean."

"We're already in the motor pool." Tarin says.

LZ Charlie was a parking garage less than a kilometer from the complex. The idea was for Tarin and her team to commandeer a vehicle and drive it to the garage, where they would rendezvous with you on the top floor.

"Are you sure about that? It probably won't be easy getting through the gate." You say.

"Do your thing, Possum." You say, trusting Tarin to know what she's doing.

"Roger that." Tarin says again.

"Whoa, what the hell is that!?" Red gasps.

You see a large, armored car come barreling out of the complex's underground garage at high speed, not even stopping as it heads towards the wall. The ancient castle walls, built hundreds of years ago, were designed to keep out enemy samurai and peasants. They were NOT designed to withstand an impact from a several ton armored vehicle. The brick wall shatters like glass, sending broken bits of masonry everywhere as it continues to barrel towards its target.

"Oh damn, I think the witches are on to them." Ghost observes.

"They still look a bit confused." Janice notes.

You look out, and sure enough, you could see the blinking running lights of the Japanese witches' strikers as the flew over to inspect the scene. They were eventually going to figure out what had happened...

"Janice, you think you can cause a bit of a distraction?" You ask.

"Of course!" Janice says happily. "One distraction, coming right up!"

She then loads a flare into her M203 launcher and aims at the farthest point from your position as possible. She fires three flares in quick succession, the trio of bright red lights illuminating the sky as the drift to the ground.

"They've taken the bait!" Ghost reports.

"Good." You nod. "All right Possum you're clear!"

You then see the armored car barrel up the garage ramp, screeching to a halt just meters from the Ghost Hawk.

"Brakes, learn to use them!" Bullseye grunts.

"Never did like driving these things." Tarin sighs as she hops out of the driver's seat. The SAD team quickly disembarks and climbs into the waiting Ghost Hawk, while Tarin lingers for a second to toss an incendiary grenade inside the armored car, to burn it of any possible evidence.

"All right, let's go." She says as you help her in.

"WOOOOOOO. That was an intense mission!" Red sighs as she pulls off her helmet. "Didn't even do that much and I'm still sweating bullets!"

"Sure. I want to see how this turns out." You nod. "Bullseye?"

"Setting course." Bullseye nods. "I'd love to sit and watch the show, too, but I gather these SAD guys don't want to stick around longer than they have to."

All three SAD operatives nod in unison.

"And don't worry, I'll personally escort him home!" Nungesser winks.

"Thank you for volunteering for this important duty, Nun." You grin. You almost swear you hear Bullseye groan in response.

It's another few minutes before you reach the Takefuji estate. Bullseye quietly lands the Ghost Hawk in the back, where you, Red, and Tarin disembark and shed off all your combat gear down to your basic fatigues. Likewise, Janice and Ghost detach their strikers and stow them aboard the Ghost Hawk. With a nod, Bullseye pulls the craft away and back towards base.

"Come on, Cap!" Red dashes ahead. "I think I can still hear them going at it!"

Indeed, you could still hear the clashing of metal as swords cross. Euclid ushers you into the main courtyard of the estate, where in the center, you could see both Jetstream and Misono squaring off against each other like a pair of boxers in the ring.

You could see both girls were exhausted, torrents of sweat soaking into their hair clothes, their breaths hot and heavy in the cold night air, but their eyes and grips were still steady with determination.

And in a flash, they burst forward with incredible speed, swords blinking through the air at impossible speeds. You could see flares of blue light as their blades crossed, their shields focused around the edges to keep them from being damaged and from causing damage. Jetstream takes the initiative, aiming a series of lighting fast stabs at Misono. Misono, to her credit, does a good job of parrying Jetstream's attacks, keeping the blades literally inches away from her body as she does so. She then takes a retaliatory swing, which would have struck Jetstream in the neck if she didn't backflip at the lost moment, splitting both opponents up once again.

"Oh my, it appears they're rather evenly matched." Janice smiles. "I wonder who will win."

"Jetstream, of course!" Red grunts. "Nobody can beat her!"

"No comment." Tarin says, neutral as always.

"I dunno, t-that Misono girl looks p-pretty good." Ghost stammers.

The three witches then turn to you.

"Oh no, I'm not falling into that trap." You shake your head. "Let's just see how it plays out."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2jW8t5jZyEk

The duel continues on, with Jestream continuing to relentlessly attack Misono, sending furious and rapid slashes and stabs at her. You can tell it's taking every ounce of effort on Misono's part to block and parry every attack, her shield around her sword glowing blue constantly like a lightsaber as it's repeatedly hit. Again, she tries a few counterattacks, only for Jetstream to easily dodge them and regain the distance.

And then it hits you. Jetstream wasn't going for a quick, decisive blow. She must've known Misono was too good for that. Instead, she was slowly wearing the younger samurai down, forcing her to expend more and more energy maintaining the shield around her blade as she defended against Jetstream's attacks. Meanwhile, Jetstream almost never directly blocked Misono's attacks, opting to merely dodge or twist away the moment she went on the offensive.

Finally, Misono decides to take the initiative and charges, her sword raise high in a killing blow, only for Jetstream to easily sidestep her attack, swinging her sword out with one arm and bringing it down on Misono's exposed back with a loud WHACK. If she had been at full strength, Misono may have been able to avoid it, but exhausted from her previous moves, the fight was already over.

"The battle is over!" The referee announces. "Takefuji is the winner!"

The crowd then begins their loud but polite applause. Jetstream and Misono, still panting from exertion, bow to each other in a show of sportsmanship.

"Fuck yeah! I knew she would win!" Red whoops.

However, your eyes were still on the stage, as you see Misono looking pleadingly into the bleachers, no doubt looking for her father, only to find him missing. Dejected, Misono quietly makes her exit.

You can't help but feel that was partly your fault.

But, well, mission accomplished, which was all that matters...

She will find out about our raid being the reason her father got pulled away, and will never forgive us, since obviously if he'd watched to the end she would have won.

We will be forced to kill her, and she will tearfully ask her father, who is nowhere near, if he is proud of her.
>>
>>38740307

She will find out, cry and she will be shunned in the armed forces for being the daughter of a traitor.

Obviously short of volunteering for suicide work, we'll take her in as part of the Imperial Japanese Armed Forces contingent with our unit and she shall earn enough glory and honour to erase the stain on her family's name.

Well with our close association with Jessica and the imperial princess, it'll at least be seen that the Chrysanthemum Throne still recognises her as a loyal retainer. That will go some way to restoring her family's honour. A possible start.

>>38740378

This is a Japan where the Emperor still retains power and retainers, lineage and samurai families are a thing and where these things weren't beaten out of Japan by the allies.

I daresay there will be more than a few suicides once the trial comes on.

Yeah, maybe. But the EMPRAH is fairly progressive, if I remember, what with his willingness to lot Korea go it's own path.
Pretty sure he'll place the blame squarely on those that did it, and not carpetbomb the families, just because they were related to these guys.
