You decide to stay quiet. You don't even react to Kyuubey's offer - you simply cross your arms over your barely-concealed chest, glaring down at him in cold, stony silence. Projecting as much venom in your stare as you possibly can that even your Dolls - those looking up at you after they've done their share of eyeballing your mutant cat bastard boss - are slowly and visibly getting freaked out. Some of them even slowly trying to inch out of your glaring range.

Hell, you're doing it enough that it's even working on the Incubator itself, something that has never happened before and frankly would have made you grin if you weren't too fucking pissed to.

His tail, which should be flicking lazily from side to side right now, is ramrod straight, the thick cloud of white fur covering it bristling in a clear sign of agitation. His tiny shoulders tense, with that slightest bit of hunch that cats get when they think they're about to be backed into a corner. But the biggest tell that you can't help but notice - the biggest sign that you're actually managing to freak your mutant cat bastard of a boss - is the fear in his eyes, something you thought you'd never see in those perfectly-round orbs of glistening crimson.

You're scaring him. You're actually scaring an Incubator.
>>
>>38765255

Well, to be fair, he's doing a good job of keeping it under wraps, tells notwithstanding. And when he finally speaks to break the silence, his voice is clear and level - impressing you just a bit more, but not improving your mood any.

"I see. Very well, then, Matsuda." Your Incubator nods. "Please give me your report on what happened during the Prophet Mission. Beginning from your teleportation into the Akashic Realm to your arrival back in Headquarters."

Alright. Time to let the fucking cat out of the bag, so to speak.

It feels like ages since you've done this before. Funnily enough, you're actually starting to get nostalgic about it.

How do you tell Kyuubey what happened during the Prophet Mission?

There are only two possibilities. Either, the Incubators aren't equipped to deal with The Transcendant One, and leaking this back through the old cat network is valueless.

Or they ARE prepared to deal with her, which is arguably worse, since if they're going to strike at her, they are pretty much going to have to go through us.

Long story short, I don't see any advantages in involving the cats in this.

Besides being a high security R&D facility, we weren't the Warmaster at the time. And he told us about it as soon as it became relevant. What, should he list for us every single high security facility that the Officio owns, without us asking for such information?
>Didnt tell us what the facility contains.
Again, we weren't Warmaster yet, and he was more concerned with having us undergo the procedure than telling us everything about the place, which we didn't ask about.
>Didnt tell us what the procedure contains.
We didn't ask, and the people better able to explain would have been Kharn and Souji, who didn't bother to explain it either. And why should they? They're not bound by medical ethics, and why should they bother telling it to someone who'll forget it after the operation anyway?
>Didnt tell us about all the stuff that Malal little flying skull revealed to us.
All of that was classified and sealed by Malal, and we didn't ask QB about the things that the skull talked about, so how could he lie about them? There's a mountain of things that Chiaki has forgotten; should QB tell us about every single thing we missed instead of focusing on the tasks at hand?

Yeah, see how well that holds up in court. "The truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth" is a phrase for a reason.
Lying, be it outright, or by omission can be construed as perjury. So, yes, there is a legal precedent for lying by omission.
>>
>>38765989
Lying: "saying the contrary of what you think with the intention of deceiving someone".
Lying by omission is indeed lying too
>>
>>38765955

>>
You guys do get that the vote was called, right?
>>
>>38766041
Yes, why? We are having a discussion here about lying
>>
>>38766057
Do you honestly think you are changing any minds?
>>
>>38766065

Since when has changing minds been the reason for having a discussion?
>>
>QB knows that the Golden weapons corrupt people
>QB knows that we went to reterieve a Golden Weapin that specifically turned someone into a religious fanatic
>We appear transformed into the guise of than angel of destruction from the primary Meguca religion
And you expect Chiaka to make up a lie on-the-spot that QB will actually beleive? "No, this transformation is totally unrelated and fine, all is well"? Trying to bullshit QB will only result in having the 9th Officio turned against us (plus the other Officios. Plus any rogues that take the Golden Truth seriously).
There's a retard here anon, but I think you are mistaken as to who.
>>
>>38765989
So is QB lying because he hasn't told us about all of the projects that R&D is working on? Or the locations and stock of all of the warehouses that QB HI owns and operates?
How would him telling us about the Siberia facility and the Procedure have made sense when we were just another Vindicate with no top-secret clearance and with no Golden Weapon?
Or when he was in the middle of researching the Golden Weapons?
He told us about Siberia and the Procedure when it was ready to be used and he had things prepared to send us. Telling us before then would have made no sense, especially as we hadn't asked about any of it, if there was a secret lab or if there was an operation that could contain the Golden Weapkns' Corruption.

This is a different situation, since he's asking for everything that happened. We are being asked for everything.
>>
>>38766001
And that reasoning here means jack shit, because what Kyuubei did isn't "lying by omission" in the first place. He didn't hide anything with the intent to deceive Chiaki, merely did his job of communicating only what is necessary for performing the job.
>>
>>38766073
Finally. Someone admits that people just like to hear themselves talk
>>
>>38766073
You are fucking with me aren't you?
>>
>>38766075
To add to this: QB has the testimony from everyone else, and the datalogger from Tiny Pete. He knows what went down. What he wants to know about is "What happened to Matsuda before she teleported in" and "Why did she suddenly grow wings and act like a different person for a period".

He's got the information, he wants the reasoning.
>>
>>38766089

>>
>>38766169

Never said they weren't connected, just that they weren't /necessarily/ connected.

Whether or not they /are/ connected >99% of the time is irrelevant to whether or not they /have to be/ connected.

>>38766192

Didn't mean to say that we should be going in circles like we are (I wouldn't mind if we stopped eating up the pre-bump-limit postcount). I was just pointing out that having a discussion on something doesn't mean you're trying to convince someone one way or the other about it.
>>
>>38766151
Honestly, I'd argue that it wasn't exactly a dick move on his part. From his perspective, the girls were at fault for not clarifying the terms of the contract and just taking it for granted.
If they were a bit older, it'd be morally sound to say that they could only blame themselves.
>>
>>38766177
Then I think you should have clarified that, because you interjected that into a conversation involving whether QB not giving an info dump of things that weren't relevant at the time or hadn't been completed until he told us about them, was lying (by omission) or him not going on nonsequiters when he was giving us missions.

Yes, you're technically correct that lying by omission is lying, since the intent is to obfuscate and misdirect, but your post should have been qualified.

>>
>>38766294

Probably coming across as rather hypocritical on this, I admit.

But near as I can tell this is a discussion on the essential definiton of the word 'discussion', which actually is an absolute with the ability to be right/wrong about it.

I personally see what I'm doing as less 'attempting to convince' and more as 'providing information to people'. I'm not trying to /convince/ them they're wrong, I'm trying to let them know that they, by the absolute definition of the thing we're discussing, /are/ wrong.

2+2 doesn't equal 5, and the definition of 'discussion' doesn't include 'trying to convince someone that your views are correct'.

Personally, I think 13-14 is the age at which children should already realize that miracles don't come cheap and it's good to clarify things before agreeing to anything. Only Mami can be fully excused, as she didn't have any time to spare before agreeing to the contract, being on the verge of death and all.

"Good for nothing, please be careful!"

"Do not fall for his tricks!"

"Remove incubator REMOVE INCUBATOR!"

You silence your Doll Collection's chirped warnings with a shake of your head - the gesture causing Kyuubey to blink - and it's with a tired sigh that you recount the events of the Prophet mission in full. From start to finish, leaving nothing out. ...Nothing, except the bit about what happened between you and Sayaka. He doesn't need to know about that just yet, and...well, you did manage to bring her back from the brink.

You just hope that the blue-haired Eversor didn't listen to the massive stick still stuck in her ass and spilled her guts to Kyuubey after she brought you to your Silent Room.

...Anyway. You tell Kyuubey all the events you can accurately recount - including the bit where you met the Transcendent One for the first time, before waking up inside the Akashic Realm proper. From your meeting up with Kyoko, and then with Wendy and the Red Culexus - to synching back up with Mami and finally getting to Oriko, your retelling takes you what feels like a couple of hours, with Kyuubey nodding every now and then to cue you to continue.

It's at certain points of your account that you spot more of his tells showing - and rather unsurprisingly, they're all the bits when you're talking about the Transcendent One. You even saw his fur bristle as you described that horrible bitch's wings - wings that are now sprouting from your own back and folded into skeletal pinions.

When you finish with your arrival - and Yuma's death - it's here that you see yet another side of your Incubator that you never thought you'd see, or even want to see: Kyuubey being...well, sad, as far as you can tell. His tiny shoulders, having been tensed earlier, falls in a slight droop, along with his head bowing a fraction of an inch. And when he speaks, it's with a fatigued sigh - a fatigue that didn't speak of physical exhaustion as much as it did a mental one. The sigh that someone who was tired of expecting the worst not to happen when it already had.

"...I see. Thank you for your report, Matsuda, and for your honesty." Kyuubey looks up at you, some of the fear and trepidation gone from his eyes, replaced with something approaching...well, trust. "You have been a bit more forthcoming with certain details in your debriefings as of late, even though I can still sense that you're keeping something from me." You open your mouth to protest this, but he shakes his head. "And no, before you ask, I am not reading your mind. You have your own tells, just like anyone else, and they do give you away. Although I must admit it's a bit difficult to read your body language at the moment, considering your new...accoutrements."

Oh. The wings. ...Yeah, they can be a bit distracting.

"Yes, those." Kyuubey nods. "...As for those details that you've kept from your report, I will allow you to use your own discretion on when and where you may want to divulge them to me. And know that I am always available for you to do so at any time, unless I am attending an All-Hands at the First's Headquarters, in which case you may wait until I've finished cowering inside my tower before telling me."

...What? He's letting you do that? ...Why? What's the catch?

[2/3]
>>
>>38766954

"Catch?" The Incubator blinks as he looks up at you, before shaking his head. "...Oh, I see. No, Matsuda, there is no 'catch' as you so crudely put it, while implying that I'm trying to entrap you in some manner." He gestures to your wings with an ear appendage. "You've obviously gone through a very traumatic mission - I daresay one of the worst so far in your career - and you are still sorting details out for yourself."

He pauses for a moment before continuing. "Add to that, allow me to apologize to ask for your debriefing mere hours after your return. Officio regulations state that a day or so after the operation has formally concluded is the customary time to wait before a debriefing, especially in operations such as the one you came back from, but..." He looks away, letting out another sigh. "...I needed to get as much information as I can. My priority was to put together a clear picture of exactly what happened, and what caused you to be in this state."

That's...uh. Well.

Kyuubey's explanation certainly makes sense, and his apology, while unexpected, is making you feel a bit better about being thrown into a Silent Room right afterwards.

Only a little bit, though. You're still sore over that.

Anyone would still be sore over that.

"In any case, Matsuda, I have a few questions about the information you've just passed on to me. If I may count on your honesty a bit more?"

Yeah, of course he would, wouldn't he? You suppress the urge to smirk and instead nod, giving him leave to ask you his questions.

"Very well. This...Transcendent One." You blink as you hear him speak the name with just the tiniest pause of hesitation. "Do you believe her, Matsuda? Do you believe what she told you, when you refused her offer of a way out of all this? About the events that will occur if you continue on this path that you're on?"

...Hnh. That's...you weren't expecting that question to come from someone like Kyuubey.

You recount what the Transcendent One promised you. About how you would have everything torn away from you - everything you value, most of all the people you hold dear the most - until there is nothing left but the road you're on.

And that Tomoe Mami would be the person to betray you first.

Fuck if you're telling that to Kyuubey, though. That's...you don't even want anyone to hear about that. If there's anything your winged self was lying about, it's certainly that.

Tomoe Mami would never betray you. She wouldn't. That shit's impossible.

How do you respond?

From thread 246
>You grumble something approaching of an affirmation, and the raven-haired banshee's smile grows wider - almost resembling the crescent-moon grin of the doll-like things that she'd sent after you.

"Green hair is the dange--" She starts, but immediately holds up a hand as you make to blow her brains out. "Wait. No. That's not what I wanted to say. I apologize. That came out of nowhere."

...Then what the FUCK did she want to say, then?! You snarl down at her, unable to keep the rising anger from your own voice.

She looks at you pointedly, before shaking her head. "If you proceed down on this path you've chosen for yourself, all the things that you hold dear will be taken away from you. Your friends will become your enemies, and your enemies will be the ones you turn to for aid. You will lose everything, piece by piece, person by person, until you are left with nothing but the road you're traveling." The monster looks up at you with your own eyes. "And of all the people who will abandon you, Tomoe Mami will be the one to betray you first."

...No. You shake your head, allowing a smirk to curl your lips. You've heard of that before. If she's looking to fuck with your head, then she'll have to try something else. That kind of thing is impossible--

"Is it really?" The black-haired devil pulls herself forward with her hands, the ragged stump of her leg making a disgustingly-wet noise as it slops against the pool of blood leaking from it.

"Both of us know what kind of person Tomoe Mami is. What kind of Magical Girl she's become. Do you really think she won't step in once she realizes just what is happening to you? Once she realizes your role in all of this? Once she sees what you're about to become?"

So this is something that I realized last night: As Warmaster, we had the authority to punish Kharn by forcing her to get married. Technically, we could punish anybody in our Officio for a severe infraction by saying they have to date/engage/marry so-and-so. We have the authority. We're the godddamn warmaster. Anything we do is still better than what Kharn would have done.

Think of it: Fire Emblem Megucaning. Persona 4 Megucas. Raise an unstoppable army of megukids. The world is our oyster.

Eh, violin-dude is closer to the 'ground' than basically any other character though? And if that's the case for Sayaka at least, then every girl should be taller than their heights surely, if you compare where their heels are.

It is well known that the very short people are easily given to much greater evils than the taller ones, as they compress all the fury, resentment, anger and other suchlike emotion into their much smaller frames, thus upsetting the humours to a vstly greater degree.

It is therefore easy to see that Tall Madoka (otherwise referred to as "Malal") and Terribly Short Madoka (also known as "The Blessed Lady", "Pinky", "Evil Given Form" and "Oh Gods Please No Stop Aaagh My Soul Noooooo") are, respectively, working towards a good end through otherwise brutal means and pure, undiluted suffering in every conceivable form.

Research has not yet determined what particular brand of omnicidal evil Rea Ashford cleaves to, but it is only a matter of time.

Rea Ashford is like a capacitor of evil. She stores the evil, like charge, until she eventually pops. And since Rea is even shorter than Madoka, she must be packing heat.

You lift your bared shoulders in a shrug. Honestly? You don't know. You're not even sure if what you saw was a hallucination rather than the real thing, what with how absolutely fucked the Akashic Realm is.

Then again, if it does happen, well... You allow yourself a small, self-deprecating smirk here. It won't exactly be a surprise, will it? You're surprised it hasn't happened already. Or if it has, then it hasn't bitten you in the ass yet.

But even if that prophesy does come to fruition, you're not going to let it stop you, no. You'll make do with what you have left, finish the job in front of you, and then go home.

Kyuubey is silent for a few moments, before he replies. "...That's surprisingly pragmatic of you, Matsuda. So you mean to tell me that even when you've lost everyone and everything, you'll continue on the path you're on? To finish what you've taken upon yourself with the Golden Weapons, and the Witch called Faust?"

...That's what you said, right? You wince as you suddenly get a craving for cigarettes, but clamp down on the temptation as you nod towards the Incubator. So long as you're still alive, it wouldn't matter much if you lost everything. You'll get this thing done, no matter what you have to do. You'll get it done, and then, after all of it, you'll slink back to whatever hole in the wall you consider home.

And THEN, you'll drink yourself stupid.

You're looking forward to that.

[1/2]
>>
>>38768671

...I see." Kyuubey nods. "Something for me to consider, surely." He looks to the side, as if deep in thought - before speaking again. "Another question, then, if you'll be so kind, Matsuda.

You nod as you pat down your dress, trying your luck with finding a cigarette through the scandalous mess of feathers and silk. Wincing as you feel the craving of filling your lungs with smoke when you obviously don't have any cigarettes to fill them with.

"Why did you give your Soul Gem to Ahriman?" At this, you hear something approaching disbelief in Kyuubey's words. Disbelief and incredulity.

You open your mouth to snarl your reply - you KNEW he was going to ask that question - when Kyuubey raises an ear appendage again.

"Do not mistake my bewilderment for scorn or judgment, Matsuda. I simply wish to know why you chose to hand over something as important as your own soul to the main objective of the mission itself - someone who had proven herself time and again unstable enough to send over packages containing body parts."

It's here that the Incubator tilts his head. "I won't bombard you with reasons why you shouldn't have, because I'm sure you're familiar with most of them. I'm talking about the reason that compelled you to do something like that, and end up like this."

He gestures towards your wings again.

How do you respond?

All right, Decu. See you soon. Two questions for you:
-Who is the person who told us to wake up in Midori illusion, to not take the procedure in Siberia and also called us a fool? You know, the mysterious number on the mobile phone
-Will we be able to discover who prepared the ambush to Murderface that nearly had Kharn killed with the black knives?
>>
Looks like Decu lasted just long enough to post Chikuwa before promptly going to pass out, so I'll just field whatever from the start today.

1. That would be telling.
2. Eventually. I think Malal Quest 2 will be covering her side of those events. The ones where Yuma did nothing wrong, I mean.

The Second and Fourteenth Incubators basically run their Officios that way, so quite implementable.

That said, that's a very different environment, too. It'd probably be a hard sell to actually mash people together here and tell them to kiss. Pitching the idea of taking DNA samples to Coobie and creating supersoldiers...

There might be something to that.

Not a clue! Though the fact that there are some terrible cosmic forces involved is not news to him, and the bulk of the reason we ended up in the condition we're in is because of our questionable gem-related decisions anyway, so I don't feel like the difference would be enormous in this conversation. It's more like we're giving him more important information that may make him trust us more later.

>>
>>38769514
So you do feel that by telling him about TTO, we got him to trust us more, and withholding that information would have led to lessened trust?

In short, it wasn't the retarded choice that some anons were screaming that it was.
>>
>>38769310
Coobs is basically a gambler amongst Inbcubators, who as a species have evolved to be as risk-averse as mutantcatly possible. Which is probably why they all think Coobs is crazy (and he is.)
>>
>>38769706
People are always mad about one choice or another. The actual number of choices that have been as stupid as people make them out to be have been fairly low.

But yeah, I feel like being as honest with Coobie as is reasonable is overall the better choice, because for the most part he's been astonishingly straight with us and willing to work with us. Even as triggered as he was, for example, he came to talk with us and get the full story before making any rash decisions.

Hopefully we told him enough that he'll trust we have a good reason for omitting the Sayaka bit.
>>
>>38769740
They also think he's insane for caring about the Magical Girls under his command and caring for them beyond their usefulness as assets.
>>
>>38769740
Coobie's crazy has paid off for him though. You can't just kill magical girl satan. If Murderface's timeline is any indication, Chiaki would have gone FLESH OF FALLEN ANGELS and slaughter everyone in the building.
>>

The mere fact that a random Callidus used it - after a ton more callidus died there, mind you, and she just happened to be the one to get Kharn's back - suggests that while it may be the same thing Ahriman is using, it's a tool that is produced somewhere. There are three places in the setting where tools are produced, and it's definitely not a Fourth thing. So you're left with crazy german, crazy gypsy, or someone just using the work of either.
