"Itsukuma!"
The principal steps out of his car. The doors open behind him and several others step out. All them look ready for a fight.

Ryouta and Maeda are the first to exit. Shortly followed by Aiko, and behind her-

And behind her, still not moving from his seat, is Ken'ichi. He looks like he's fallen asleep.

I am Itsukuma Masami, today everything is falling apart as the monsters under the Chairman's control have broken loose. They're now fighting amongst each other, and the only reason they haven't turned their attention to the town is because of their lust for combat.

Which isn't good, because their numbers dwindle by the second. Right now the main brunt of them decided to invade Fortune HQ, and I would be happy with letting them have the place, but it's not going to last forever.

There's still hope! I have a ring the Chairman dropped that can apparently put them back in line. Mom wanted me to give it to Asai, who is a scary jerk that would probably LOVE nothing more than to control all those monsters. I came up with a better plan thanks to Kaori and left Mom in the care of someone we trust. After that, we left Fortune to enact our battle strategy.

"Why did you want us here?" Ryouta says, looking at the scenery and Fortune's HQ in the distance. "Shouldn't we be over there?"

"Everyone!" Kaori raises her voice, "We're not going to Fortune today. We're here to stop it at it's source."

In the distance is the mansion where Kaori and the Chairman used to live. There aren't many monsters around it, they seem to have left for Fortune. But I can clearly see several silhouettes perched on the rooftops, as if they're waiting for me.

"I think we're ready." I stand up and check my cards in my pocket.
"Who's going with us?" Kaori says, looking at the assembled group.

"All of us!" Aiko speaks up, "We didn't come along to just watch you do everything dangerous!"

The principal sighs, "I didn't want any of you to come along at all. But-"

He looks toward the mansion. The silhouettes that were perched on the roof are now gone.
"-But I understand that you would just come without me if I didn't bring you along."

The principal takes a step toward the mansion. "We shouldn't put this off any longer, we don't want to be around when it gets dark. Let's go."

All of us slowly make our way down the overgrown path.

--

"I don't like this." Kaori says, standing outside the door to the mansion.
"I haven't liked this!" I reply. Everything just feels so cold and distant here. I know I've only been here once before, and I caused a lot of property damage when I was here. It just feels so strange when there's nothing around.

"Let me go first." The principal steps in front with his sword drawn.
"I just think that-"

The front door opens and a hulking beast steps out, there's a good thirty feet between him and us. At least he had the decency to come through the door instead of trying to jump on us from the roof or something. He leaves the door behind him hanging open like he isn't expecting to be out here very long.

He's straight and to the point,
"I won't even pretend to not know why you are here."

He cracks his knuckles.

The monster doesn't get to finish, the Principal charges straight at him, and I'm right behind him with Julie in hand.

All three of us clash, our side clearly wins the strength war, but what we have in strength he seems to make up in speed.

He steps back, unleashing a flurry of punches straight at our guard. The principal takes the initiative and pushes forward into his offense. I just stand back and let the crazy red guy do his thing.

The punchy monster seems to be quick, but isn't able to counter the amazing offensive the principal serves up in return. He delivers a swift blow straight to the principal and jumps back in front of the door.

He puts his arms out and seems to try 'shielding' it with himself.
"I don't care what you do, but you're not getting through this door."

"But why!? What's so important in there!?"

"Hey!"

Kaori runs to the front, standing between us. I use this moment of reprise to slip Bel on in case he decides to attack.
"We just need to get something from you! We don't want anything inside the house! Can you let us get it?"

"Magician." He lowers his posture. "I don't trust you. I think you've been brainwashed."
"Wha-"

I immediately jump forward and wrap my arms around the back of Kaori.
"She's not brainwashed! She just knows that there's something really important at stake! Aren't you worried that all the monsters ran away?!"

"Of course I am! But this is our home!" He puts his arms back up. "And you're not allowed inside of our home! We have a serious problem inside right now!"

"We have a serious problem OUTSIDE right now!" Kaori stomps her little foot. "That's why we need to come inside! The box that father used to have is missing, and it's probably in there somewhere!"

"No! You don't understand we-"
The monster stops himself. He backs into the doorway to get his footing and continues.
"Someone in here is sick." He sighs, "You cannot go in, not now. If you want to find our father's artifacts, we can search for them ourselves. But you cannot come in now!"

>"Okay, we tried reasoning with you." (Ramming speed!)

"An illness?"

Wait, I didn't know-
"YOU GUYS CAN GET SICK!?" The shock is almost palatable in my voice.
Even Kaori looks frightened!

"Apparently so! And that means even you!"

"Is.. Is it contagious?" I meekly reply. I can almost feel myself backing away right now.
He backs further into the doorway. "We don't need any visitors right now until we know what is going on, So GO AWAY!"

"Wait! Just let us get the box! We don't have to-"
"No!"

"Masami! Kaori!" Ryouta speaks up, "This is clearly a trick! He probably has the box but doesn't want to give it to you!"
"Yeah!" Aiko replies, "What are you really after? Do you think if you can hide it from us that you'll get to control them all by yourself!?"

"That's ridiculous! We didn't control the drones even before they ran amok! They're just servants for the mansion!"

"He's right!" Kaori tries to talk back to Aiko without breaking eye contact. "They don't have any control over them at all."
"Well maybe your plan is to get control then?" Ryouta says, cracking his knuckles. "I'm sure you wouldn't mind being the boss either."

"I don't want control!" The monster spits back. "All any of us want right now is for everything to go back to normal, but we can't have that. Please! Just.."

Within an instant, he jumps back through the doorway and slams the door.
"Leave us alone!" The muffled shout echoes through the door.

"Hmph." Aiko jumps forward. But it's clear the door is locked very tightly.

"Now what." Ryouta bangs on the door, but it barely even produces a sound.

>"They're lying! I'm going straight through that door!"
>"I bet they didn't secure that other entrance. Let me go have a look."

"They're clearly lying." Even the Principal is agreeing with his students. "We need to find another way in."
"I don't know.. I mean." Kaori seems to be anxious.
"Kaori, you cannot trust them anymore." Ryouta puts a hand on her shoulder, "They aren't you, they don't own you. They're just monsters, Kaori."
"But.. I'm a-"

I clasp my hand over her mouth before she can say anything else.
"Shh, no. You don't get to say it."

Quick, I got to get her mind off of this.

"Kaori, you still have his phone number, right? You used to call it when your father still lived here." I suddenly remember. Maybe this guy was just a jerk. "Call them!"

Kaori clicks her fingers and takes out her phone. She puts it on speaker so all of us can hear what's going on.
Ring.
Ring..
"Hello?"

That's a strange voice, it's not one I expected from a monster at all.
It sounds so.. young, and youthful. But it sounds oddly sad in a way. The voice is kind of squeaky and high-pitched.

"Oh! I'm sorry." Kaori says, "Did I dial the wrong number?"
"Okay." The voice on the other line quietly mumbles as the line click.

Kaori taps a few buttons on her phone, before.
Ring.
Ring..
"Um.. Hello?"

It's the same voice again.
"Uhh." Kaori angles the phone to where the backlight is more visible.
"Sorry. I really cannot talk right now."
"No no, Did I dial the right number? I'm looking for-"

There's a click on the line, and then a really brash voice.
"Magician, I know that's you, I can see you from up here."

All of us look up to see that same monster glaring at her through the second story window.

"Go. Away." He sternly states as the phone clicks for a second time.
"...What? "

"Hang on." I put on the float card I have and gently make my way up to the same window he was staring at us from. "I'm going to go have a look."

The window he was looking out of has the curtain drawn. But there's still the window to the left of that.

Slowly, I make my way over and gently peek in as to be certain that I'm not spotted. Around the corner I see the foot of a bed, and another monster standing next to it with his back facing me.

And in the center of that bed, I see.
A kid. Even younger than I am. He's sitting upright in the bed, looking angrily at the monster who is accosting him.

I jump down and ask everyone to gather around, telling them what I found.
"A.. child? In THERE?" Kaori points to the mansion, she seems oddly shaken up about this. "Dad HATED kids! That has to be some kind of mistake."

"Maybe he was kidnapped!" Aiko jumps in, "There's no way a bunch of monsters could look after a kid on their own will. They clearly took that kid for some reason."

"Well what-" I interrupt, "What if he's like.. me."
"No, no." Kaori waves her hand, "The only one like that when I was there was me. And even then I think I was a kind of.. mistake or something. I don't really know how it happ-"

I put my hand over her mouth again, "Stop saying things like that!" She only mumbles in response.

>"There's probably a good reason, let's come back later."

"OH NO!" I squeak before kneeling down next to him.

"I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry sorry sorry sorry sorry sorry!"

His hair is getting more and more messed up by the second as I furiously rub at the spot that I hit.
Oh I feel so awful, I hit a small child.

"SORRY SORRY SORR-"
"QUIET! I GET IT!" He slaps my hand off of his head. Then tries to adjust his hair as best as he can. "This is so embarrassing, why did it have to be Priestess of all people?"

He crosses his arms and turns away from me, but I stop him before he can go through the door.
"Wait! I have some questions for you! Why are you here? Were you kidnapped? Are they hurting you!?"
"What?" He seems almost insulted by that line of questioning. "No! It's.. complicated! I'm going back inside!"

"Emillion! Don't answer the door while you're sick, you migh-"
The punchy monster appears again and grabs the boy's other shoulder.

"Emillion!?" Kaori seems to gasp, but I can't see her.

"Hey! What are you doing with him?" I glare at the monster.
"What are YOU doing with him." He glares back at me.

The boy stomps his foot, "Stop it! Stop treating me like this! I swear when I'm back to normal I'm gonna-!"

He tries pulling out of my grasp, but he's too tiny and frail to manage it.
"Hold on!" Kaori interrupts this, admittedly ridiculous, scene. "Did you just say that you're Emillion?"

"Eh? Whose that?" I ask, the boy stomps his foot a second time.
"I can't believe I seriously lost to you, you ditz." He rubs his hands on his temple.

He sticks his tongue out at me, but I stop him before he can close the door.

"No no ! Wait! You were, like, huge! You were covered in metal, and were easily twice the size that I was! Were you-"
A thought hits me.
"Were you a little boy inside that armor the whole time?"
"NO!"
"Then what happened!?"

"I DON'T KNOW!" He screams. "THIS IS WHY I THINK I'M SICK."
"Emillion, hold on." Kaori kneels down next to him, "At least tell us how you got this way."

He crosses his arms again. "It's... a long story. When the drones went crazy I got everyone who was still sane into a room and barricaded it. The drones tried busting in, but something came over me. I.."

"He defended the room everyone was hiding in." The punchy-monster states matter-of-factly. "He was always the strongest of us, most of us wouldn't stand a chance against the drones. That was the first time that I know of he ever used his strength to protect someone."

"AND IT WAS A TERRIBLE IDEA, JUST LOOK AT ME." He sinks to his knees.

The punchy-monster continues, "After that happened, and the drones left the mansion. He started saying how he felt strange. A few hours later, his magnificent armor peeled off. Leaving him in this state."
"Ech!" Kaori seems to slink backwards from him. "You think it's a disease?"
"He must have caught it from one of the drones. That's my only explanation."

"Excuse me." I say, stepping into the doorway. "But we STILL need to find something in here. And we're not going away until we get it!"

"Oh just let them in." The young man says, leaning his head against the door. "I'm really tired, and I just want to go to sleep."
"Sorry if I interrupted your nap time." I nudge him.
"I didn't used to have to sleep at all!" He looks back up at me, tears in his eyes.

Our group immediately sets out through the house. We narrow down where the box could be hidden to only a few places thanks to Kaori.

Splitting into groups of two, we comb through the house searching all the typical places someone would hide something. The principal searches the bedroom, Aiko and Maeda search the attic with some prodding, Ken'ichi searches the inside of his eyelids, and Ryouta and Kaori search the study.

I search the only place where I can't take anyone, the other side.

--

This place is a wreck.
Normally, this side is always so clean and serene, mostly because it's like no one ever goes here or uses it .

Not this time, it's a complete disaster now. It really does look like a hundred monsters stormed through and ransacked the place.

Inside of his bedroom, the bed itself seems to have been flipped upside-down. There seems to be a panel on the wall that was punched out when all the chaos occurred. I can see it on this side, but I can't seem to touch it. It's like it's placed specifically where things on this side can't get to it.

--

Materializing back in the real world causes the Principal to jump and reach for his sword again. He quickly realizes who it is and breathes a sigh of relief.

I point out where the hidden compartment seems to be, and he makes short work taking it apart.
Inside of the compartment, is a small oaken chest. It seems to be empty on the inside, but it has a small inset for a gem when I open it.

"Found it!" I happily jump into the main room.

Kaori is talking with Emillion about his transformation. If he wants to go to school or not. It's a weird subject, but I won't judge.

"Kaori! Look!"
"That's it! Put the gem in, quick."

I put the ring inside of the box and close it.
Nothing happens.

"You two do know how to use that, right? You didn't come all the way over here for something you don't even know how to handle." Emillion stretches his arms.

We look at one another, and then back at the box.

Thanks for running!
I am intrigued, I expected something to come from the duel, but I honestly did not expect this. I am liking Emillion so far though.

Thanks for running. Interesting development. By the way, what happened to Aiko's mother?
