Previous Thread: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/38704846/
Our Current Stats: http://pastebin.com/iahm4JSj (Please have a look at them, but don't feel obligated to read it all in one sitting- use it as a guideline if you're drawing a blank or need some contextual information as I've essentially compiled every piece of information that's relevant to our civilization.) *UPDATED*
Our Current Bestiary: http://pastebin.com/TWY0QfWA (Please have a look, but don't feel obligated to read it in one sitting- it's VERY extensive and currently in "alpha" since I'd like to make an illustrated pdf.)
Our Current Resource List: http://pastebin.com/X2EGb3Es (Sloppy and new.)

It seems so long ago when your civilization was on the constant brink of extinction from Zizzes, Deep Sea abominations, Elven tamperment, and all manner of dangers.. but now, in these modern times; perhaps the most dangerous threats aren't always the most explicit or obvious?

>+/-Technological BONUS: Akalade Lives his life.
>Akalade has chosen to stay on world and this has a few implications: 1. You may ask Akalade for advice; he appreciates and loves your people, so any rolls towards him are in your favor/he will pick up the slack on failed ones. 2. Akalade is just one person, you cannot directly control him and sometimes he'll just do his own thing. 3. Akalade does not "know everything": Akalade possess only a basic/functional grasp on biotechnology, physics, astronomy, clockwork machinery, and biology/ecology. Akalade is Magic illiterate. 4. Akalade is middle aged: He doesn't work as much as he could, he spends more time sleeping, he's developed a grey streak in his teal hair, and you have to be gentle with him when you play.
(2nd post incoming)

>+/- Economic: THE COLD FORGE.
>The Southern Cyclopes civilization has gutted the Volcanic island residing within the bay of their continent and have converted it into a massive lava powered blast forge. It has revolutionized their country as the leading producer of high-quality steel production, has begun siphoning skilled Cyclopean workers from your country, and they have begun importing massive quantities of steel & iron commodities and arms to both Changeling and Kenku buyers. The bad news is you can't compete with this kind of production- even though your quality of goods is comparable. The good news is the South has to ship their goods through YOUR waters and you're receiving an enormous amount of commerce and tourism from the cross-fires.

>- Political Development: Gorgon Escalation.
This is the first time in almost 1500 years that the Gorgon's have had this much traffic from outside sources and they are taking full advantage of it:
>+See Gorgon Renaissance in stats+
>The Empire, The Manticores, and even the Dinosaur Tribe have all in their own ways begun stealing from, raiding, and kidnapping foreigners; it as made the fungal wood impassable for Changelings and especially Kenku- whom some Gorgons find particularly EDIBLE.
>Gorgon territory (purple territory) has become embroiled in a constant state of Guerrilla warfare between the Dinosaur Tribe and the Empire: The Carnage is always brief, but explicitly graphic. Arson is rampant.

>+/- Environmental Development: Rabbit Accidentally Introduced
>You don't know if it was the Kenku or the Changelings, but The RABBIT has been introduced into your slice of the "mainland". Rabbits are small to medium sized, delicious, little mammals with long ears that are native to the Northern Hemisphere. They reproduce exponentially and don't appear -at the moment- to be of any consequence on your local ecosystem.

Also archillopilli is our own cyclops god, i wonder how our love god is doing?
>>
We need to really focus our attention on getting the gorgon nations into line

What are some suggestions? My current idea is to get all three 'gods' and leaders of the nations to talk to each other. We can't let them keep hurting gorgons as a way of having arguments by proxy

We could also offer Manticore tribewomen employment protecting/guiding visitors and caravans

>>

Well its implied Hydra Mother and Cosmic Snake get along like oil and water, like thor and loki, and sort of want different things.

Hydra mother wants to stay an individual and alive, whereas Cosmic Snake wants Hydramother to "Recombine" and both die to rejoin the stars.

Also hydramother doesn't know Cosmic snake is alive.

Don't we have our own volcano on the home island? Maybe we could tap into it as a source of power
>>

>>
>>38855040
There has to be some sort of middleground. They were one before, and even if they both want different things they both have the same thing in common- they want to care for and protect gorgon people.

Sniping at each other and having their worshipers killed during the process can't be an ideal situation

>Expand, or set up a continuous drive to colonize. we are small and this should change.
>Roll 1/20
>Complete and Horrible objective Failure.

Your people not only do not want to leave, but any hopes for expansion have been almost completely dashed for the moment: The outside world is full of weird and unusual things and your people are quite complacent in the lives they've been leading up to this point.. Expansion is a slow and tedious process and no one is quite willing to go out on a limb and explore the unknown world and constant failure and returnees.. or even those who don't come back at all.. discourage any kind of expansion or colonization.

The Southern continent is already owned by the Southern Cyclopes.
The Plains are full of Changelings and Ant Women.
The North is so far away- it may as well not exists.

>>38854597
>Saving roll 11/20
>DOUBLES: Interesting results.

It's not entirely hopeless though: The Mountain Villages bordering the savanna have proven to be quite economically viable, the Observatory is quickly turning into it's own little village and place of commerce and trade (despite Wyverns) and the Jungle community further north and beyond the mountains has the potential to become it's own city within time due to maritime traffic, comfortable tropical temperatures, ideal fruit-orchard conditions, and plenty of room for expansion.
>>
>>38855214

I don't think it's a thing we need. I'd rather spend a turn on inventing aeromancy, founding a Star Monastery, discovering organic dyes to advance art, stuff like that our civ seems to be dramatically behind in compared to other stuff
>>
>>38855291
Hmmm, I think we should turn the Observatory into a giant science town, like Los Alamos.

Maybe build a huge chemical production facility or reactor there.
>>
>>38855214
I would suggest we have a kind of ritual set of tasks that must be done. Wrestling etc is a part of our culture, so maybe wrestling a pig and winning? kind of deal. That way they also get to eat their first true victory as a prize.

As for mental, maybe we give them the task of making or having their first magic tattoo? Its something they would need help with, which should encourage co-operation.
>>
Okay guys... I gotta ask. What will we do about the parrat problem? How shall we approach this?

There's something wrong with them other than just the slavery. They're missing something spiritual and important, and they are being taken advantage of on their own islands and being abducted.

I think next round we should try and go with some changlings to the parrat islands... and see if we can... Do something.
>>
>>38855348
Observatory's require lack of light, i suggest keeping industry away from it. We could expand the little greenhouses though and use it as a farm/research town. Maybe summon the plant goddess again (who we have not talked to in a very long time).

I feel like there are so many figures we lost track of its crazy. Yes we should try and get in touch with Jungle Goddess or Jungle spirit some time. or see what spirits reside in the plains.

>>38854744
We do need to have something we're best at alongside that. We can't allow ourselves to be mediocre, mediocrity gets us killed. We are the most naturally talented in magic, and the most advanced, but we need to keep going. Find and document each type of Magic, try to find any Kenku mages, see how magic interacts with black powder, all these things will serve to keep us at the top in terms of magic. Not to devalue the neccesity of trade and diplomacy, but Magic is our most functional defense from danger, and a brilliant utility.
>>
>>38855464
Well put it this way, if we find all of them, we can hold a truly grand nature/forest/harvest festival alongside mycea, like once every 10 years or so.

>>
>>38855444
Well we made ALL parrats sentient in that unpleasant stint, meaning ones up north woke up one day able to feel and think and then wound up getting enslaved. So There is some liability on our part. Plus I feel if we can end parrat slavery we can maybe cripple the kenku's industry somewhat.

>>38855459
Stable yes, but I am curious about it.
The Gorgons are something to be concerned about but I dont know how much we should get involved. This is a situation with no clear good guy or bad guy. Picking sides and then "losing" would result in the loss of a trade partner and a new "nation that hates us" in the way of Mycea's Grove and the Tip City.

But the Sun probably forgot more about magic and science than she ever knew. And he IS our patron after all, we've neglected his cult and forgotten his harsh but truthfull word in favour of One too many "idols".

Akalade has a lot more free time than he once had and he's been spending an awful lot more time taking in the simple pleasures of life, mainly: He's actively encouraged and hand holding a few of your people into gathering all the necessary ingredients to make some of his favorite foods so he can just be fat and sassy.. This has lead to the following innovations:

>+Cheese Invented: Elephant Cheese.
>Salted, Smoked, or prematurely eaten as a kind of Yogurt; Elephant cheese is tart, it isn't as sour as one would think, but it has a certain hearty, tartness that is platable and delicious to your people. Your people have always had an on and off relationship with Milk, but Cheese is quite universally delicious and well received.

>+Pasta Invented: Ramen-like Curry.
>The local flavor isn't "quite" right, but your flour is just perfect for the kind of wiggling, wiry, noodles that make Ramen possible: The Broth is made from a combination of southern greens, milk, kelp, local spices, and either chicken, iguana, triceratops or peccary- It's honestly quite good and has a really spicy, vegetably, kind of appeal to it.

>+Baked goods invented: Tarts, Pies, Cookies, Crepes, Pancakes.
>Wrapped in dough, filled with fruit filling, and then baked in the oven. They're simply, they're delicious, they make life a little more bearable and they're fantastic with milk and extremely popular among everyone.

It's more of a early version of financial record keeping. It uses notches made on a wooden stick to indicate the amount lent—and owed. The sticks were then split down the middle; the creditor kept one half and the debtor the other. When a payment was made, the sticks were paired up, and the payment was marked on the stick. The tally stick system also has another built-in benefit: It's nearly impossible to counterfeit, as the shape, size and grain of the wooden halves had to match up perfectly.

WE COULD TALK TO THEM

WE HAVE YET TO ACTUALLY TALK TO EITHER SIDE DIRECTLY ABOUT ENDING THE WAR
>>
>>38856240
how do you think we would do that anon? Mycea? Our past history as gorgon peacekeepers? (we did try to police the collapsing gorgon empire for a while..)
>>
Guys. We need to end the gorgon skirmishing stat.

We need to get the Hydra Mother and Cosmic Serpent to talk.

>>38856349
No. We can do better. I say we send in missionaries like we did back in the day. Preaching peace and settlement of grievances without bloodshed.
>>
>>38856378
Peacekeeping Friendclopse Force, GO!
>>
>>38856378
>>38856374
For a short term relief we could set up convoys manned by Cyclops for Kenku and Changling visitors since the Gorgons respect the Cyclops too much to harm them
>>
>>38856325
If that's the case, then why aren't Gorgons on the list?
>>
Could of course also have Mycea cut them off physically with massive fungal growth until they talk it out.
>>
>>38856374
Missionaries.

We send missionaries, and we work our way from the bottom up. We make the populace unwilling to wage war.

Then we get the cosmic serpent and hydra mother to talk.

That's the root of the entire problem after all, except for the Manticores, who are our wayward lovers and sisters. We cannot simply kill them, not put them down. We did that to the parrat, look where it went.

So we need a 3 pronged plan.
1) An escort force of 'guides' at the mountain mouthes to guide traders in and out of the gorgon lands.

2) missionaries into gorgon lands to convince the populace that fighting is not the answer.

3) Getting the hydramother and cosmic serpent to talk and reconcile.
>>
>>38856398
Snoo snoo for peace.

Talking to them sounds like an idea honestly.

We can talk to them, that is easy.

Its them talking to eachother thats the hard part.

We're yet to talk to either side about ending the war because both sides are ruled by Gods with mutually exclusive aims. We know this, One of the goddesses doesn't yet. I don't know you guys but spending missionaries to force a truce between phisical gods seems a little hubristic to me. Unless we get a third God in the deal. Like Mycea through her influence on the Manticores.

>>
>>38856460
Gorclopse God-Emperor?
>>
>>38856446
These are all great ideas. If the gorgon empire and the tribes leadership don't listen we can always brandish the threat of a trade embargo- we'll route all trade between the continents directly around the gorgons from our home island to the mountains via boats
>>
>>38856478
We have to try. We seem to be buddy-buddier with our gods than most. Convincing them of things isn't hubristic from our point of view. FORCING them to do stuff might be.
>>
>>38856496
And if things get really bad. The Cyclops might have to go to war for the first time. Against our closet friends.

My vote, by the way, is that if war DOES break out in full. We step in and PUT a stop to it. Forcibly. All sides, forced to stop fighting. We've never deployed arcanistry in full power. But still.

>Develop Economics and Banking
>Roll 84/100
>Complete Success, incomplete 85. +Roll too high, devoid of foreign influences.

Banking isn't something your people "do", they don't concern themselves with borrowing or renting money because for all intents and purposes; they don't typically borrow things, they usually just give people "things". Your people are VERY BIG on "genuine" favors. Your species concept of "money lending" is as explicit and as deep as, "Yes, I'd like that, but I only have this much" and the other person simply owing them a favor or forgetting the difference. Terrible liars, terribly generous.

The Kenku are terrible liars in the other sense and terribly not-generous.

>Economical Development: Xeno-Banking.
>If they want your Ivory, they will learn to play by your rules: Banking, dept, and money lending is something restricted to non-Cyclopeans. They cannot be trusted; they have names, they have internalized goals and identities and they are greedy. Records and Book keeping are kept and managed by the few Cyclopes who care about such Foreign affairs and any foreigners (Changlings and Kenku) who wish to deal with money; must have some form of proven equity or deal strictly in physical goods. Keep track of their wealth, offer money-exchanging services, and keep records on the lies of the Kenku.

>Societal/Economy Development: Cyclopean Taxes
>Do not let the name fool you: Cyclopean taxes are more in line with a charity or fund raiser than an 'actual tax': Members from the Sage council go out maybe once or twice a month with lengths of rope and go from household to household respectfully asking/begging for donations- their goal is to completely cover their rope lengths in Ivory rings. Sages are encouraged to appeal to their fellow citizens sense of moral obligation towards their community and to offer minor-pleasantries such as brief tutoring lessons, minor chores, or guaranteed invitations to sagely parties.

To Do List by the way guys. Feel free to edit and replace.

Big priorities are
>Expanding foundries and mountain mines
>Solving gorgon crisis.

Everything else is secondary. We can't solve slavery with a war brewing on our doorstep, and we can't solve it at all without massive increases in industry and metal working.

Rabbits are seemingly quite mundane little animal, but you've notice how they reproduce and you've noticed how they seem to eat every visible speck of vegetation; either wild or garden variety and frankly your environment has never had to worry about the pressures of "Mammal Vermin" beyond the banana rat.

Just to be on the safe side though you apply a bit of artificial hunting pressure on them: Gorgon Rat-catchers are more than happy to after them and for the most part rabbits are controlled well enough to be merely a "footnote".

>+Second exact boring failure roll: 34. -More interesting failure.

Your people are very interested and motivated with ways they could try and compete with the kind of Steel production the South is currently outputting and with your past of historical failures concerning tampering with large elemental forces: no one is entirely too interested to start meddling with the Volcano.

They turn however to the wheel: The wheel has been proven capable of powering a number of inventions using wind, water, and the tide; all to make industrial work significantly easier and to assist with some minor level of automaton. You already use them for milling, for processing wood, and for some simple printing projects and blacksmithing.

One of your local Iron Foundries on the Home island decides to try and use it to create more efficient and hotter burning blast forges; using the wheel power to bolster the force of bellows... It.. it works a little 'too' well. The forge is over bellowed and a large fire is started: The forge burns down, a large quantity of iron is ruined, the fire spreads and successfully burns down a section of the dock and industrial sector on the western side of your home island.

The proceeding fire damage will take years to repair, a few of your Craftsmen die in the fire, but most are just mild to wildly burned but are saved through months of recovery and physical therapy.

The worst part though is the industrial district becomes lousy with Fire Elementals who are disturbed by so many people burning to death and wish to "apologize" by setting constant & random fires until they're finally satisfied after MONTHS of "being sorry".

And because I literally can't ignore two 20's; we get to find out what all the hubabloo is about concerning the Gorgons.
>Send missionaries into the gorgon lands preaching peace and pacifism. To end the strife. Make people unwilling to fight from the bottom portions of society up.
>Peace corps-caravan guards and guides for foreigners, invest the gorgons in making sure people arrive and leave safely rather then raiding and slaving
>DOUBLE 20'S
>Complete and Total unarguable success.

Your people have grown grossly dissatisfied with the constant and rampant violence of the Gorgons within the Fungal woods and their surrounding territories: It's bad for business and that's bad for peace and bad for everyone. You're not exactly going to march in their Bells a-blazing, but you're not just going to ignore them either: you'll give them a very stern and formal talking to and hopefully everything will quickly resort itself out.

The Gorgon Empire seems to be something of a lost cause though, the Hydra Mother welcomes you into her city which at this point has become quite honestly an ornate and breath-taking snake-themed city under her Divine rule.. and she is more than pleased to tell you of her "justified" aggression.
"I understand your ignorance; you people were never suited for war, but they simply can't be reasoned with: their demands are completely and horrendously unreasonable and on personal level -outrageous-. Do you know what they wanted? They want me dethroned, they want me to stand down and take my place as an "unbiased deity"- they want me to go back to being no better than some Nannying bitch in the peanut gallery, so they can be free to wallow around in the mud and shitting in holes in the ground!" She obviously quite flustered, her Maidens won't stop slithering around back and forth in some form of serpentine "pacing".

Yup... thats our Hydra Mother alright.

Why are we letting her raise our kids again?
>>
>>38858811
Yeah. The hydra mother is nice but an immortal goddess dictating everything? That's not cool. The gorgon empire is starting to be less of a state and more like a vehicle for delivering praise and worship to the hydra mother it sounds like.
>>
>>38858887
In my book we're kind of even. We've done a lot to help her over the years, more then enough to pay her back for helping us. Without us, I very much doubt the gorgon empire would exist

The Hydra Mother is a creature of deals. She honors her bargains, but is ultimately self motivated. She likes us, we saved her from starry oblivion, and saved her people from elf subjugation.

Ultimately though she cares about herself. She cares about her Gorgons because of narcissistic reasons.

Its like Bender and Turtles.

She seems to be a little nervous though, "It uh, It doesn't matter though- I've taken care of them. I know your heart is in the right place, but you've caught this conflict on just when it's about to end and if you know what's good for you; you'll let me see it finished. I don't want you to intervene; you'll frankly complicate things and maybe even exacerbate the situation, so just keep being the one eyed little pretty-boys that you are and stay out of Mommies way, okay?" Your Emissaries are not at all convinced; they can very clearly sense something is off, but they're not quite sure what it is.. They vote to stick around and watch the situation unfold for the time being.

Your secondary party of diplomats however heads towards the Territory controlled by the Dinosaur Tribe; their cities are no cities, but actually large, intimidating, fortresses lined with wooden and stone palisades and something you've haven't seen in a while: Walls. The mood is entirely different from that of anything you previously experienced: there are muscular, scarred, and grizzled Gorgon women everywhere with grim moods and sullen looks on their face as almost everyone works towards a militarized goal. There are platoons and divisions of Gorgons organized in varying armed forces of military specification and precision: Spear Women, Archers, Snipers, Shield-maidens, Beast Tamers, Venomancers, and all manner of other military units including an entire section of their fortress devoted to the reverse engineering and production of explosives and firearms; staffed by a number of Gorgons dressed in Hoods and Aprons and working with meticulous care, dedication and precision.

Their Warchief however is nowhere to be found. (2nd post incoming)

The Cosmic Snake's reincarnation cannot be found anywhere and you are instead taken directly to a council of Large, intimidating, muscular Amazonian-esque Women who are almost as tall as your own Cyclopean species. They nod to one another, have your emissaries seated, serve hot chocolate and begin the peace talks.

Their Accents are absolutely atrocious and they are difficult to understand at times, but they are patient and they hope you will be too, "Orochidina, no longer, uhhhh, 'sym-pa-the-tic' to Us. Had bad run in with her Ro-yal guard; Capture Cosmic Snake. Capture our princ-ess, eh, Warchief. Very mad; she per.. she see us as plotting against her. Orochidina Lock up Warchief inside tower, lay egg that hatch into gi-ant din-o-saur that breath fire. Din-o-saur now guarding princess." They are not familiar with Cyclopean and they are frustrated on how stupid it makes them sound; their Gorgon is no better as it is a Rustic and very old Dialect.

To put it in summation: It seems The Hydra Mother successfully managed to kid-nap and has caged away the Cosmic Snake; she is currently keeping her locked up within the basement of her palace and is guarding her with you assume to be some kind of dragon. The Dinosaur tribe plainly and bluntly states that whether or not you support them, they are still going to march on the Gorgon palace with all the excessive military force they can muster.

They end their speech with a brief, "No Gods, No Queens, only Gorgon." The Dinosaur tribe seems to be very confident in their military plan: The Hydra mother seems to think that the Cosmic snake was pulling the strings, when in reality she is more akin to a cherish figurehead. The Dinosaur tribe will take advantage of this.

If you have your own plan they are welcome to postpone the carnage, but they will not wait forever.
THIS IS A QUEST.

This is your solution hydra mother? Kidnapping?

What are you going to do when the princess refuses to bow to you, even now? Cart her in front of the people and execute her? For their own good?

And then what? Will you imprison everyone who refuses to worship you as their queen? You cannot build a prison large enough.

Kill them all? Then you had better start with us. Don't worry we will not fight you. But you had better start now, because we will never bow. As long as we draw breath we will fight with words and song against it. So kill us now, hydra mother. Strike us down like the elves did to your own priestesses so many years ago.

Or... let her go. End this madness. We can find a solution through talking. We promise. But there is no middle ground. Peace, or a world where you rule a kingdom of corpses. The choice is yours.

Also. Figured out our argument. She's a mother, she's babying an entire race. She doesn't think they're ready to decide for themselves. Either way, the Arcanum is where the line between the physical and ethereal realms thins the most, so that's probably where we'd go for this.

>Bring everything we have to convince the hydra mother that this course of action is...well it's insane.
>Roll 20/20
>Complete and Total non-negotionable success.

Phase one of your Cyclopean plan: Make an Appeal to the Hydra mother, use her Children against her if you have to.

>Mycea
You first immediately tell Mycea about these current shenanigans as she is the easiest and most dependable diety currently available on a regular basis: You find her in her personal Chambers, tending to a small collection of pressed flowers while having tea and snacks with a few of her followers and for the moment oblivious and at peace... (un)fortunately you've come to spoil her good times. You immediately break the news to her and request her assistance. Her frows becomes slightly furrowed and she just lets out an exhausted and frustrated groan while laying out, "Yeah, I.. I can help with that. She owes me one, let's see if we can make an appeal, but I doubt she'll listen to a mushroom such as myself."

>Archillopilli
He is the second one you find: just residing in the bay of the mainland, idly hanging around in the reefs while braiding his hair and writing poetry and songs for the locals in between assisting them in minor things such a fishing and offering minor blessings. The small, bright, coral-esque horns he had been born with have grown and matured more into much longer, thicker, grander horns that really compliment his hair and divinity. "O-oh.. Hello.. I haven't seen you guys- Oh? Mommy?" He trails off. "Mom..Uhmn...I'll.. I can come." He doesn't seem confident about confronting his "mother", but his sense of what is right and wrong gives him courage.

We might be able to get the cosmic snake out... But I dont think we'll ablate any war. Hell this might be the kind of indignity that starts one.

>Foliatom
Foliatom is the most difficult to find because he honestly hasn't gone anywhere: you find him at the observatory. He seems to be sowing himself a Gown/Robe made out of a disturbing material that exhumes a deep rich blackness akin to the void of space; dotted and accentuated by formations of of blinking, gazing, eyes and a landscape of patchwork, convulsing, moving, flesh and tendrils of varying hues and shades. He seems incredibly focused in his work and doesn't notice the sages arrival until they're right next to him. He's quite flustered: his tendrils of hair squiggle and wiggle right out of the neat top-knot he had tied to keep them from out of his expressive eyes, "Uhhhhhhhhhhmmmnnn". He quickly stows his personal project away and tries to act natural. You update him on the current situation and he doesn't hesitate to oblige. "Yes. I can do that." Your sages were expecting some resistance, so they try to make small talk to fill the time gap. Foliatom seems more concerned with very politely, but firmly; trying to get the Cyclopes out of his room so he can go back to his weird projects.

>Zetoscea
She can't be found anywhere; she's 'could' be somewhere within the Coral city, but it's a BIG city. Zetoscea was never much of a home body and she went back to the ocean as soon as she could until her return trips waned and eventually you just stopped seeing her all together.

But then again Zeto really liked hanging with the dinosaur tribe... so who knows.
>>
>>38860384

They all make the commute in their own time, but they all arrive promptly at the same time: Mycea blossoms forth, Archillopilli comes in on a gentle shower and on a cool breeze, Foliatom is the last to arrive and makes all the mortals feel really awkward, but he's with good divine company so everybody feels a lot more comfortable.. it's just his Eyes. A large assembly of Cyclopes, Cyclopean sages, the representatives from the Dinosaur tribe as well arrive on their own terms and finally; an overwhelming amount of low-class Gorgon Sympathizers; mostly war veterans and "Fodder" who had been unwillingly victimized or otherwise not compensated by the collateral damages of the constant fighting.

They're brought into the palace; into the ordained floors of the Hydra mother's palace made from the finest marble with fossil engravings and no expense to great to lavish her kingdom and symbol of her divine authority and power. The Demi-gods are seated before a massive table and the Mortals are directed by numerous and seemingly endless maidens playing the part of waitresses as everyone is treated to a truly ornate and dignified dinner to keep everyone passified, civilized and placated before the peace talks. The Maiden of Honor; the Hydra mother, takes her seat before a massive throne of Dragon Bone. "So, how do you like the place? I've spared no expense; this is REAL dragon bone, Mycea- I had it shipped in from the south from one of their Dragon Graveyards. How is everyone enjoying their dinner? Don't worry, don't worry; It's been pre-killed and cooked and everything- I understand not everyone swallows their food whole." Mycea extends her arm to stop the Dinosaur tribe from getting up in frustration, "We're here to talk about the release of the Cosmic serpent, you can't just keep her locked away like some kind of trophy.. We KNOW you have here; we need to talk this out like Adults."

Orochidina seems visibly erked, "Do all of you feel this way? Foliatom? Archillopilli? Archie, Sweety, what about you? You've always been such a good little boy.." Archillopilli is visibly nervous, he instinctively begins rubbing his horns before Foliatom slides a little over to rest his hand on his back and he looks at his 'brother' with those deep, endless eyes of his and they both nod. "Yes.. Yes Mother; what you're doing isn't right- You can't just lock people up, that isn't practical.. that isn't "nice", don't you want to be a nice mom?" The Hydra mother's tail; the massive reptilian lower half of her body and the root of all her maidens begins to coil up around her throne and flexes visibly from frustration.

Mycea begins again, "Come now, Echi, lets be practical here: The Cosmic snake doesn't want to dethrone you- you can still rule in your own way or you can just wait this out until a more reasonable solution is available. You're IMMORTAL, what is a couple thousand years?" There's a visible hissing and rattling noise heard and the palace begins to shake, "Do NOT PATRONIZE ME FUNGAL THING AT MY OWN DINNER. I WAS NOT OBLIGATED TO HOST 'YOU'. " Everyone now is.. rather significantly nervous. The weird brothers; Foliatom and Archillopilli lose much of their confidence and go back to quietly eating.

You notice some of the Dinosaur Tribes women making a discreet exit down to the lower levels while everyone is distracted with "family affairs".
You may join them in their "infiltration" and save The cosmic snake/princess behind everyone's back.. or you can think of a "new plan".
What would you like to do? You may roll if you wish.

Seriously guys. Stop thinking of her as a Lowe hungry mad woman, think of her as a mother with umpteen hundred thousand children. Think of this from the perspective of an eternal mother, someone incapable of thinking of her children as Anything but children? Then this all begins to click doesn't it? Other gods are bad influences, mother knows best, children should listen to mother because she'll keep them happy and healthy, and any small unhappiness or anger they direct at mother is to be lightly punished, but accepted as inevitable. But the influences of other adults, corruptive, evil influences, are to be torn out root and branch and met with lethal force.

This makes way more sense than her being some power hungry bitch.

she's also a goddess of misconduct who has gone against the will of the true deities just for the sake of it. she was never a benevolent being. hell, she tried to bamboozle us several times and our own gods warned us against trusting her on multiple occasions.

I think she needs to be brought down a peg or two.

In the end your people decide to take a more pragmatic approach and a small detachment of Cyclopes slink down into the basement while the rest of your group "tries" to dissolve the stress going on in this currently lame ass party.

The Cyclopes who had been left behind to act as a "distraction" mis-translate that as making the party better: They ask the Hydra mother to slither out the Alcohol and the instruments they had brought as house warming gifts; there is much merry making to be had and everyone knows any decent decisions must be made twice sober and at least one time drunk so as to create a formal bias.

The plan is a complete success and very soon the atmosphere is much more acceptable and intuitive to talking, getting dates, and in general having a fantastic time: A number of your Sages begin playing a rousing accompany of songs both familiar and new before they cool everyone off with a slow dance that calms everyone down and lets all the attendants get real close and personal.. before taking requests and finally ending the festivities on a severely chilled out mixed session of gambling, bull-shitting, and promptly forgetting why they had came here in the first place.

The Hydra Mother was completely and utterly successfully placated: She was far too busy slow dancing, drinking, and then later became very invested in 3 hours of beetle fighting and gambling when Foliatom revealed to have snuck in a dog-kennel sized cage of Beetles that Mycea told him not to bring, but he did anyway.

The Hydra Mother's mood changes entirely and she becomes more open to suggestion, she feels as though she might have been hasty and maybe she should be redirecting her energy. "I.. I'm sorry, you know- this has all been very stressful, but it's difficult when you're immortal; I really can't go back to "not physically existing". Living among the stars is so cold and so distant.. I'm willing to admit I may have been a "little"-" She's cut off. phase 3 has been completed.
>>
>>38861452
Definitely agreeing with this whole train of thought. But if it goes south then we have to intervene and will use military force to do so. At the very least, with that pair of 20s earlier, we can make the populace unwilling to wage war, and can also set up peace keepers who will put combatants down.

Yes, phase 3. Phase 3 being: Infiltrate the basement, pacify and or eliminate the dragon, and rescue the Cosmic Serpent.

The longest portion of this mission is simply just getting down to the correct level of the palace where the Cosmic serpent is being held: which resides on the absolutely lowest floor of the palace, deep, deep, deep underground.. What you see is quite an interesting sight.

The Cosmic serpent in her current reincarnation has been locked away quite a while: She hangs in a cage from the ceiling constructed out of entwined fossilized serpents with very little room to move around and on the bottom of the cage seems to be some sort of organic structure in the form of a chandelier with a large, blue, glowing heart that visibly pumps and is connected by "snake pumps" that flow into the ceiling and the upper floors.... Below it all is the Dragon.

The Dragon isn't honestly that impressive; you get the feeling that the Hydra Mother wasn't expecting anyone to find this room as both the Dragon and the cosmic serpent are noticeably wasted away from a lack of proper exercise. The Dragon's wings have visibly atrophied to tiny, flaccid, little limbs from lacking the necessary room to fly around and the wrest of his body only seems to be spared the most grievous of muscle wasting simply because there's room enough for him to move around and pace back and forth... He's actually quite fat. The Dinosaur tribes women show a mix of pity, embarrassment, and shame- The Dragon is not even hostile.

The only visible sign of aggression he gives is an audibly hiss, followed by a growl at the Cyclopes- but he is quickly placated with an offering of food before he lays flat on his belly like a reptile; gnawing contently at bones before taking a nap.
Both parties agree they should save the Dragon AFTER they save the Cosmic Serpent.

She's a bit weak, but becomes quite energetic once she notices your two parties arrival, "Free me- Free me, free me, this is hell. This is quite literally Hell for me; I need you to free me immediately. All she has me do is eat, sleep, and shit. She's just keeping me barely alive in this little cage" She reaches her arm out and points down at the disturbing hanging Heart Chandelier below the Cage.

"She's using this to Jerry-rig an artificial "bond" between the two of us that keeps our Souls separated so we can live as two separate beings, but at the same time she is awarded ALL of the power as one complete divine being. FREE ME. SMASH IT. SMASH IT BEFORE SHE NOTICES YOU DOWN HERE." She's begun to swing the sage back and forth and bang her hands against the fossilized bars.

Your people unfortunately don't hesitate and with the Gorgons standing on the Shoulders of Cyclopes.. and the Cyclopes standing on the shoulders of the taller Cyclopes they man-handle and begin removing the Heart from the Cage in order to release the Cosmic Serpent from her bondage. The Heart is cold to the touch and the flexing of it is quite physically disturbing, but both parties manage to safely remove it; the cage opens, the Cosmic Serpent slowly makes her way out and...

>cosmic Serpent roll 16/20
>You guys needed to beat her, Highest roll 14/20

The Cosmic Serpent makes sure the first thing she does when she's free is to step on the Heart.
And that is where everything starts to go wrong.

In the Basement the Heart melts into a blue pool of water that resonates and sparkles with a kind of endless and bottomless vastness of the stars; All the Cosmic Serpent can do is but to laugh to herself as she weakly drags her body into the waters and a pillar of light desegregates her physical form and beams her back up into the starts through an ethereal and all connecting force that cannot be stop by any physical barrier of this earth.
Everyone immediately recognizes that might not have been the best thing to do >>38861492 as the Hydra Mother is cut off mid-sentence and realizes what has happened. "Oh no, no, No, NO, NO- NO, I SHOULDN'T HAVE LET YOU IN HERE. I SHOULDN'T HAVE-NO. NO. WHY. WHY. I TRUSTED YOU. I TRUSTED YOU." She's absolutely livid.

Her body starts being dragged down by some mysterious force and her seemingly endless maidens start disappearing one by one as they're "plucked" off and de-materialize into a cloud of vapor and star-stuff. She makes a futile attempt to grasp at them, grasp at ANYTHING, but the pool in the basement starts getting bigger, and larger, and deeper and more and more of her begins to disappear. By the time the second party gets back up from the progressively flooding basement they're welcome to a show of the Hydra mother in Hysterics as she breaks down into beams of light.

"I DIDN'T WANT THIS, I JUST WANTED TO HELP- YOU KNEW THIS, YOU KNEW THIS FOR SO LONG. I'M NOT THE BAD GUY HERE, YOU CAN'T TAKE CARE OF YOURSELVES; YOU NEVER COULD. PLEASE, PLEASE, I DON'T WANT TO GO BACK. I CAN'T DIE. I'M IMMORTAL- I WON'T DIE. AN ETERNITY NEVER ENDS." She screams, she weeps, she bawls and hiccups and chokes on her own words as her final "main head" begins to get sucked up into the ceiling.

"No-NO, NO-NO NO NO, I'M SORRY, I'M SORRY, I'M SORRY, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE!!"

No one really knows what to do; you didn't exactly prepare for this, how could you? How could anyone have expected this?

Foliatom doesn't seem to care: He's always been the weird child, he's always been a bit of an outcast, but his Mom loved him and he isn't about to let cosmic non-sense get in the way of that. Foliatom leaps forward to make a dive and pull back his Mother into the physical reality.

>Foliatom Rolls 1/20

Foliatom forgets his grasp on Reality isn't that great either: His source material wasn't exactly "spectacular" and he hasn't really existed for very long to accumulate a strong and independent soul. Even though his heart is in the right place; he begins de-materializing as well, but at least the Hydra mother isn't afraid anymore. "Oh, oh yes- Yes, my dear sweet boy. I knew I could count on you; It's the thought that counts, it's the thought that counts- I knew you tried to help, I knew you tried so hard- so hard for your Mommy. We'll do it, we can do it together."

>>38862440
>Cyclopes Run counter roll 19/20

This small comfort however is short lived: Your drunk sages finally leap into action and manage to improvise enough to pull back the spaces within the physical and ethereal reality and break the bonds between the cosmos and the living world just long enough... to pull back Foliatom.
The Hydra Mother was not expecting that shit.
She doesn't even raise her voice, she's honestly just completely and utterly shocked and as her physical form fragments away with her empty open arms all you get out of her is a very deeply sad, "No, no- I can't do it alone. Plea-" And just like that she's gone; wafted away like spores on an open breeze.

The gods rely on belief dont they? so long as we remember and worship her, she exists.

But next thread, we need that sage to write down with fol what happened with the reality pull. If we can replicate that, we can get a very very large number of magically prowess cyclops to do it all at once. After that, we use the last of the lightning bolt to empower and fully realize the hydra mother as an entity again.

>so what does Mycea and the kids think of all this?

Mycea's the kind of person who honestly doesn't blame anyone, but she can't help herself from laughing out of sheer shock over what just happened. Mycea really relates to the sentiment behind not wanting to exist in the stars, so she's pretty sympathetic.

Archillopilli most likely feels like the worlds shittiest son as he didn't even have the courage to TRY. Foliatom on the other hand probably feels like he's failed his mother and didn't TRY ENOUGH.

Ugh... god damn... Worst time to be an artfag right now.

I just got done drawing this fun stupid thing.
>>
Let's not fOrget the e hm was doing Bad Things

Like it or not what happened was brutal but maybe justified

Maybe spending so ling apart from cs was corrupting her and twisting her

Maybe she and the cs are going to be better together then apart

Still we should contact cs and ask wtf
>>
>>38863377
I think making a stable portal will be better than the God splitter bell. They are meant to be together, but one prefers the spiritual realm, the other the physical. We must reconcile both halves.
>>
>>38863387
point is that she's capricious. not spiteful, not hateful. she never did anything to directly hurt us... never really. But she's caused plenty of "short term" problems for us just out of her own selfishness. and again its been implied she's been a tyrant to her own people... despite how well she treats us.
>>
Oh god, what if the Dinosaur Tribe was using us and degrades everything Hydra achieved as a final "Fuck You", proving her right about wallowing in mud pits for the rest of eternity. And the Dinosaur Tribe shoves us off.
>>
>>38863422
Agreed. Then we need to create the spirit portal.
>>
>>38863422
we might be unable to...

They might not "Exist" any more.

They might be one Cosmic Hydra.
>>
>>38863396

>Cyclopean Dr. King Schultz

Oddly extremely appropriate.
>>
>>38863428
hmm. Perhaps if we made it as an enchanted ring? Something that allows her to project down onto the world and be like she was there.

>>38863470
QM confirmed that ass pulls are all possible.

You take the time illustrating an interesting and dynamic character, giver her a family, have her pull our asses out of the fire. You create a deep emotional investment in her wellbeing and spend an entire thread dealing with this situation, and you conclude it abruptly in this manner. Her last words were one of pain and betrayal and seperation from her beloved children.

You didn't allow us any chances to prevent or ameliorate the consequences of our actions. The only rolls of ours that you counted once we were aware of what was going on was a single roll to PREVENT any aid she might receive or prevent her 'death'.

It's worth noting this isn't the first time something like this has happened. You also had Mycea die pitifully and sorrowfully with no opportunity to alter events by the time we were made aware of them. You nearly pulled an ending like this with Akelade.

I don't know if you think this sort of emotional whiplash creates an engaging and emotional narrative, but I think otherwise. By this point it seems every significant character in this quest we get attached to gets stuffed in the fridge, and you're leaving us with a cliffhanger ending thrown in just salt the wound. And I do believe I've had my fill of it.
>>
>>38863516
Kinda agree... Especially since the counter roll was actually meant to help hydra mother...
>>
>>38863494
A portal ring of bells for the hydra portion to move into?
>>
>>38863579
I feel this fixation on bells is going to turn into:
"No problem no matter how big nor small cannot be fixed with the aid of more bells"
>>

It hasn't already?

Blessing in disguise in my opinion.
We have Foliatom... and that creepy kid can open or stabilize, Star Portals.

Yes you are right it was a little cheap that the 19 counted against us. But honestly it felt like "Helping out" foliatom drag her back... rather than drag Foliatom away.

Cosmic Serpent was a bit of a bitch this time regardless.
>>
>>38863610
We apologize to folk. Ask him to help us make a portal that'll let cosmic serpent exist in the stars, but hydra mother live in our reality.
>>
Let's focus on the living before we embark on some megaproject please?

The gorgon factions are going to be a mess after thus, we will have to do something to stop a second collapse

Call the cs and hm up on spirit Phone and see what's what but focus on the gorgons who will need our help first please
>>
>>38863644
Agreed on thus. They could go full manticore. We have to nip it in the bud while helping Foli bringing Hydra-mother.
>>
>>38863481
You don't say.
stuff like this gives me hope. Good quest OP.
>>
>>38863644
>>38863668
We must help protect her children from themselves.
>>
>>38863696
We need to keep a mostly hands off approach though, otherwise it'll just go horribly.
>>
>>38863635
They might not be separate entities anymore. that is the big problem.

But maybe that might not be too bad.

It might give Cosmic Snake a chance to "see the appeal" in living"

And that's exactly why I think you'll be coming back for more: You like the world, you care about the characters, to the point where you've actually become emotionally cranky because bad things are happening to them.

But I'm confident you'll be back.
I take all of this as a humongous compliment because I've MADE you care. You CARE about these characters; WHO among you anons would ever think you'd get emotionally attached to a blatantly Milfy Hydra snake woman in a Civ quest revolving around a bunch of bishonen Cyclopes and their ridiculous shenanigans?

/tg/ has always been so quick to choose the path of violence and murder-hobo'ness and I've finally got you guys to walk the path of peace through minor lewdness and ever increasing emotional attachment.

It'll be worth it, Anon.
I know you'll be back: You can save the world, Anon.
You guys can save this world, but you're going to have to EARN your happy ending.

This might be the best chance we could get to
> A)consolidate our power on the southern continent.
Without the hydramother or the cosmic serpent leading the Empire and the Dinosaurs, it might be anarchy... there are no more ruling parties now.
We can "sieze" control and sort of end all this self destructive habits and whatnot.
But really we need to be a rock for them to gather around and a source of stability. this is a Post French Revolution situation.

that entire pink part of the political cloud is gonna dissappear.

The Cyclopean Nation is gonna be whole.

This is our Mexican-American War equivalent.

She was doing a sucky job of it
>>
>>38863959
Fuck. You.
seriously though, good job op. Can't wait for next week.

It wouldn't be so bad in this case if not for the fact we were heavily divided about this shit, and it did feel like you deliberately misinterpreted a few of our posts...

No no, see I don't mind that you've dropped a bridge on the Hydra Mother after making her such a beloved character. What I object to is you making a habit out of this with the only immortal (and thus permanent) characters in the quest. First Mycea, then Akelade, and now Hydra Mother. These are the only characters we can get attached to by virtue of this quest taking place over centuries, and you try to kill them off in the most gut wrenching and painful ways you can come up with. Really, ending the thread immediately thereafter makes it that much worse, as you purposefully deny us any sort of satisfying conclusion to the emotion rollercoaster you've got us on.

This does not endear your characters to me. It makes me want to care LESS about them, explicitly because I know your going to pull this shit. And then you're going to leave us hanging for a week with the feelings left by this needlessly tragic ending.

Your handling of the quest thus far has severely diminished my interest in it and any desire to get further involved in it.
