Late start, I know- don't quite have my sleep patterns fixed, hahaha. Working on that though, hopefully it'll be sometime soon!

As for actual news, the household goods are now due in tomorrow morning, so I can't run too too late, which means this may be a bit of a short thread, or we'll forego the usual questions at the end. I'll try to make up for it next week if I can, or maybe run a bonus thread sometime in the next couple weeks, we'll see what we can do, hahaha.

Anywhats, archive here:

The briefing room is quiet as Colonel Wilkins steps up to the podium, set on a stage with the huge map behind her. There's fewer color-coded tracks on it today, almost none of them denoting strikes. It's all almost CAP and CAS today- not that anyone's surprised by that, given last night's news.

The colonel- you've been careful to not call her that near your girls- clears her throat. “Morning, people.” She says. “I'm sure you all heard the news, but just in case you didn't, last night, Minsk was officially declared secure by the ground pounders. This means-”

She's interrupted by a cheer erupting from the room- Minsk has long been seen as the 'last big one', the final major objective before NATO would offer the soviet union terms. It's all over now but the shouting, in other words.

The colonel waits for about a minute to let the cheering die down. “This means that most of our strike routes and packages are canned for pure close air work, while they root out the last pockets of opposition and push the reds well and truly back across the border.” She says. “What that means for us is alerts.”

The cheer is replaced by a groan- no one likes sitting in the alert shack, or, worse, on the pad, waiting. She nods and makes a 'keep it down' motion with both of her hands. “I know, it sucks. But this thing could be over inside the week.” She says.

At least on this front, You think. China's still going at it with Japan, last you heard, and there's a lot of bad blood there.

“We've got the afternoon shift for immediate recall,” She continues, “So we'll have to man the ready shack then. In the mean time, though, we're on ten minute recall, so no one leaves post, clear?”

A mumbled assent ripples through the room.

“Good. In the event we get scrambled, expect it to be for a close air support mission.” She says. “Intel seems to think the soviet air is fought out on this front, and isn't capable of putting up more than a token show of resistance.”

She pauses. “Of course, intel is usually wrong, so we'll load accordingly. Either way, expect to be dropping iron, not dogfighting. We don't expect to see any red witches, they've mostly disappeared from the front.” She shrugs. “Again, intel thinks it's an internal disagreement between their covens and their high command. We'll keep an eye out either way.”

She looks down at her watch, then back up at the gathered aircrews and witches. “That's it for now. I'm sure you all are going to make straight for the O club, keep in mind, we're on recall. They already know not to serve alcohol. The gates are closed and the MPs manning the gate already know no one's allowed off post, so don't bother trying. Other than that, don't get into anything you can't drop without notice. That's it. Alert crews will be notified by their squadron commanders. Dismissed."

Thanks to being seated near the back, you're out first, Stasya and Lilya right behind you. They don't look too happy with the situation, honestly, but neither of them say anything. The crowd of pilots and witches passes by you, a couple greeting you, though most don't.

Ice is the last one out, accompanied by colonel Wilkins. "Oh, good, Frank." She says, nodding. "Just the man we wanted to see."

"Should I be worried?" You quip with a smile.

"No," She says, "But we did want to talk to you. Mind coming over to my office?"

You shrug. "Sure." You say, turning to follow them, Stasya and Lilya following you in turn.

"Uh. Frank, do you... do you want to send your girls back to the house?" Ice asks, noticing the two of them coming along.

You look down at the girls, who look back up at you. They've been getting markedly better about things like that, but they still don't like being away from you too much. You could send them back to the house with Merlin, since they trust her and seem to like most of the squadron, but they still won't like it. And it's not like Ice can tell you anything the two of them will repeat, especially if they're told not to. Plus, you think, it's probably about them, otherwise, Ice wouldn't have asked that.

[] Yeah, I guess. Girls, go ahead and go home, go see Merlin. I'll be back later.

[x] Yeah, I guess. Girls, go ahead and go home, go see Merlin. I'll be back later.

You nod, pausing to kneel down by the girls to get on eye level with them- you end up looking up a bit at them, but it's closer than you standing over them anyway.

"Girls, why don't you run on back to the house, go see Merlin?" You say. They look at each other, uneasily, then back at you. You laugh and ruffle Stasya's hair. "I'll be back with Ice in a bit, we can have that cake Santa sent, ok?"

She hesitates, but eventually nods. "Ok papa." She says, after a second. She and Lilya take each other's hand and head back towards the house- you watch them part of the way, then turn back to Ice, and, somewhat to your surprise, colonel Wilkins.

"So what's up?" You ask, falling into step behind them.

"Not here, wait till we get to the office." Ice says, kind of ominously.

You bite your tongue, and the three of you finish the walk in silence.

Once you get to Ice's office, she motions you inside- you take a seat on the futon, while colonel Wilkins takes one of the chairs in front of the desk. Ice closes the door and walks around to her spot behind it, sitting and looking at you for a second before speaking.

"Frank, Holly and I were talking," She says, kind of hesitating a bit. "And we don't want you to take this the wrong way, but we're not sure about your girls."

"What do you mean?" You ask, trying to keep your voice neutral.

1/2
>>
"It's not that we don't trust them." Colonel Wilkins says. "And Tabitha is being too nice, this is mostly from me. They're so young, Bishop, and, well, they're kind of-" She pauses, her hands making futile little gestures in the air. "We've got the intel dossiers on them, and we're not really sure about them in the air." She says, finally.

"How so?" You ask, still trying to keep your voice neutral.

"They came over so suddenly, and it's like everyone just accepted that they did it of their own free will." She says. "I mean, I know, the CIA and NSA have been digging up every ounce of data they can on these two, and they seem to trust them, but-"

"But we're not sure." Ice says, finally. "We're willing to listen to you, they're your girls, your responsibility, and you know them best."

2/3 (oops)
>>
"What we're trying to ask, Bishop, is if you want them in combat with you." Colonel Wilkins asks, finally. "We know how good they're supposed to be, but they're so young, and- well. Like I said, there's some doubt about their motives."

You can see where they're coming from- Stasya and Lilya are awful young, and you suppose, at least for someone who hasn't been living with them, you can see to where their motives might be in question. Honestly, you're no spook- it's possible the whole thing is a setup to kill you- but then again, if it had been, they've had plenty of chances before, practically nightly. They still don't sleep too well in their own beds, and more often than not, you wake up with them cuddled up to you in the mornings. You've had to wake them up more than once too, after their thrashing in some nightmare has woken you up. Given how Stasya talks in her sleep, you trust, at this point, that either they're some of the best actors this side of history, or they really do want to be there, and really, really, want a chance at some revenge.

[] Yeah, I see what you're getting at, and I think you're right.

You nod. "I see what you're getting at, but I trust them completely." You say. "I mean, I get it, but you don't know them like I do. The reds really fucked them up."

Ice and colonel Wilkins both nod. "If that's your decision, then that's what we'll go with." Colonel Wilkins says. "We really just wanted to talk with you about them first. It's kind of unusual, you know, their whole... situation."

You laugh. "Yeah, don't I know it. But I think we can trust them completely." You pause, thinking for a second- what you wanted to say could so easily be misconstrued.

[x] "Honestly, I think they just want a family and we're the closest they've gotten to it." (Modified)

You shrug. "Honestly, I think they just want a family." You say, noting how the colonel grins at Ice- and how Ice blushes hard enough you figure you could get a sidewinder lock on her. "I mean, you've seen how close they are with me and Merlin, or how they follow Wendy around when they're not with one of us-"

"How's that going, by the way?" Colonel Wilkins asks. "Her service jacket from the RAF wasn't that impressive."

You snort. "The RAF was shortchanging her because she's a Maloney. She's got her shit together, colonel. Hung with me against a pair of headhunter teams all the way. Burnt up a pair of strikers doing it. I'll fly with her any day."

"I'd wondered if that had anything to do with it." Colonel Wilkins says, nodding. She looks back over at Ice- who's only just starting to recover- then back at you. "So is there anything we should know about them? From you, I mean, we know all the stuff the CIA could dig up."

You nod. "Yeah. Be careful with your rank around them."

"I'm sorry?" She says.

You shrug. "They don't react well to the phrase 'the colonel' or anything like that. I'm not sure how they'd handle a direct introduction, you know, but apparently the guy in charge of their program was a real piece of work."

"So, what?" Colonel Wilkins asks. "Just don't refer to anyone as the colonel around them?"

You nod. "That might be for the best, at least until we can get them to understand not all colonels are completely evil and out to make them suffer." You say the last part with a grin.

1/2
>>
Thankfully, colonel Wilkins grins too, then nods. "Ok, no problem. Around them, you've got my permission to refer to me as Holly, if you think it's going to be a problem. But you know if they stay in, they'll have to get over it, you can't ask every colonel you ever meet to not use their rank."

You nod again. "Thanks ma'am. And for what it's worth, I know. We'll work on it, of course, but for now I appreciate that."

The colonel checks her watch, then stands up. "Well, it's been nice talking to you, and thanks for not going off on me, Bishop." She says with a grin. "I guess I got the wrong impression of you up in Alaska. I'll try and stop by to meet your girls a little later, maybe we can all have dinner or something, call it a base morale building event." She shrugs. "We'll work on it. take care."

And with that, she's gone, headed back to her own offices, no doubt.

"T-that was it, Frank." Ice says, after she's gone. "I suppose you're going to go back to the house, now?"

[x] Actually, I haven't eaten yet, you want to go grab chow?

You check your watch- and grimace when you notice the time. "Actually, boss," You say. "I haven't eaten yet, you want to go grab chow?"

"What about your girls?" She asks. "They don't like to be too far from you for long, do they?"

You shake your head. "No, but they're ok with Merlin, and they seem to like Slider and Wendy. Besides, we're just as likely to see them at the chow hall anyway."

She hesitates- but eventually nods. "Ok, sure." She says. "Let's go."

The chow hall on base isn't packed- like colonel Wilkins guessed, most of the aircrews have spread out to do their own things, and apparently eating isn't real high on the list. The two of you work through the line quickly, though you grimace when you see the meal is coldcuts. At least the bread for sandwiches around here is pretty good.

You both take a table with some extra space in the far corner of the building, spaced out from the rest of the people in here.

"So I never did ask." Ice says, kind of quietly. "What do you think of them as pilots?"

"Who, the girls?" You ask. She nods.

"I mean, I know they got the twins over Crete-"

"And out over the Nellis range." You say. "But the second time was simulated."

She nods. "But other than that?"

[x] Honestly? They're too reliant on the edge VDNI gives them, and they don't have the practice as a pair like you and Slider do. Maybe you could help me teach them?

"Honestly?" You ask, grimacing as you look at the lunchmeat on your tray. "They're too reliant on the edge they've got with VDNI, and they don't have the same kind of practice you and Slider have as a pair." You say. "They make basic mistakes that'd get them in trouble otherwise."

She nods, taking a bite of her own sandwich.

"If we get the time, maybe you could help me teach them?" you ask. "I mean, they're good, but if we improved their basic skills, they'd be scary."

Ice looks like she wants to say something, then shakes her head. "If we get the time, sure. I'd be glad to help, and I'm sure Slider or Katya wouldn't mind either."

"If they'll listen to Katya." You say. "They don't like her much."

"Why? " Ice asks. You shrug.

"Probably because she's Russian." You say. "They tolerate her when I'm around, but that's some bad blood that could take a while to go away."

Ice nods. "I guess I can understand that. Have they-" She pauses. "Have they talked about their past at all?"

You shake your head. "Not to me."

"I'd wondered." She says. "Maybe-" She pauses again. "Maybe we should ask. You should ask, I mean. It's not really my business."

You shrug. It's not that you haven't given that thought before- you do kind of want to know, but at the same time, you figure they'll tell you in their own time, if they ever tell you, and what's it matter anyway? It's not going to change how you act, since you were going to do your dead level best for them anyway.

I have no opinion on your waifu, having never seen any representation in any form of media.

What I do have an opinion on is you trying to force her into a discussion that has absolutely no bearing to her. This is SW89 the quest, focusing on a multitude of characters and their relationship to the MC, NOT a strike witches general thread. Your qt little nazi is not one of those characters. She has no indirect of even ephemeral influence on anything that has ever happened in this quest or likely ever will.

[x] I don't know, I don't think digging that up is going to help them at all, you know?

You shrug. While you are pretty curious- especially given some of their quirks- at the same time, you're not entirely sure asking the girls right out about them is going to do anybody any good.

"I don't know, boss." You say after a second. "I don't think digging that up is going to help them at all, you know?"

She nods. "It was just a thought, really."

"I'm more worried about them and Katya, really." You say, and she nods again. "I mean, it's not like I don't understand, but at the same time, she's pretty clearly not one of the ones that did all the things to them, you know?"

Ice nods. "Sure, but that doesn't matter. Take my mom, the always felt the Navy got my dad killed, and she's always had problems with it since then." She pauses, her eyes looking past you. "It wasn't pretty when I told her I was planning to follow in his footsteps."

You nod. "Yeah, I can imagine not. She takes it better now, though, right?"

Ice shrugs. "I don't know. We don't talk much. It is what it is. Anyway, my point was that it may not matter that Katya isn't one of the ones that did the things to them, she's Russian, and that's enough for them."

You nod again. "I guess, but it doesn't mean I'm going to just tolerate it. Katya is-" You shrug, not really sure what to say. "I mean, she's part of the squadron, and even if for just that, we can't afford to allow it if they're going to fly with us." You settle on.

"Well, maybe start spending some time with the three of them." Ice says. "If they're around you and her at the same time, maybe they'll start coming around?"

"Maybe." You say, finishing the last of your sandwich off. "So what do you think about this? You think it's all really almost over?"

You nod. "Well, and there's what Putin said-"

"Yeah, but he's the only one saying it." Ice responds. "Frank, the UN departments put in place specifically to watch mars have been releasing the same reports they always have. It's dead. The whole planet is a wasteland. The only martians left are the ones on the seabed and out by Roswell, and they're hardly a threat."

"What's he got to gain by lying, though?" You ask. " I mean, especially about that-"

She shakes her head. "I don't know. Maybe nothing. Maybe it's a cover so those girls from Iceland they kidnapped will fight for them. Who knows? But as far as anyone can tell, he's lying."

You sigh- you're still not convinced. "Either way. I hope so too. Be nice to go back to being able to enjoy flying."

She nods. "Speaking of flying, we're going to have to reorganize. I'm going to leave the twins on your wing and make your girls the second element in your flight." She says. "And I'll move Wendy and Sakamoto over with Rosalie and Katya to the third flight."

"Makes sense." You say. "We're getting pretty big, huh?"

"We're at establishment." Ice says, meaning the rated strength for a new squadron, one operating at it's listed number of aircrews and aircraft. "I think the only other mixed unit that's at full strength right now is the wolfpack."

You nod. "Well, that's good. So no more reinforcements? what about Davis?"

"Detached her to Wilkin's outfit." She responds. "The girl's anxious to fly, and that wasn't going to happen here. that's why you didn't see her at the house, she's quartering with them. I guess if she likes it, she'll see about a transfer. Should have told you sooner, sorry."

"Well, not like she could really be flying with me anymore anyway." You point out, tapping the back of your neck. Ice nods.

"That too." She says, then looks at the clock. "Hey, I need to get back to the office. Thanks for eating with me."

You nod. "Anytime. we should do this more often."

"We- yeah. we should." She says. "Bye, Frank."

"Later."

Well, you think, turning in your tray and empty cup. Now you've got free time. [x] I'd better get back to the house, the girls will start to worry soon.

You decide to head back to the house, figuring you've spent enough time out that the girls are going to start to get anxious soon.

The walk back is quiet- you pass close enough to the flight line to see that everything out there is armed, but every aircraft assigned to the base is still on the pad, waiting. You hope it stays that way, too- you may not finish out as the highest scoring ace of the war, but you're the first and certainly the most famous, which suits you.

Back at the house, the girls seem to materialize out of nowhere to greet you, Slider trailing along behind. "Papa!" Stasya says, hugging you around the waist.

"Hey girls. Hey Slider. They behave themselves?"

Slider laughs. "Perfect angels. I don't think they're capable of misbehaving. Unlike their damn dad."

"What'd I do now?" You ask. She leans in real close- enough that you can practically feel her breath on your ear.

"You think we wouldn't notice that nose art?" she asks, her voice the barest whisper.

"About that-"

She leans away, grinning, while the girls look back and forth between you two. "So, did you two get your helmets painted?" You ask.

They both nod, though Slider answers for them. "Yeah, me and Katya did it. Check them out if you get the chance. They weren't quite as much of a pain as yours was, though." She grins there, at that last part.

"You painted my helmet too?" You ask.

"Our own take on that nose art of yours." She says, her grin, if anything, getting wider. "We did Merlin's too, since she asked. Now," She looks at the girls. "I promised you when Frank got back, we could all have some of that cake. Let's make him go do that with us."

Given the looks the girls are giving you, this isn't an option. Part of you despairs- Slider’s already weaponized them against you. You never stood a chance.

Yeah, Kat is the youngest Youngspawn. Another small problem I noticed was that Mav keep referring to Wyvern strikers and if I recall correctly, the superstrikers are Widows.

>Only issue I see with it is if it is the real deal I'm a bit disappointed it wasn't found out or discovered in the quest first. If it's the trollfic then I'll be laughing too

It was very, very loosely hinted due to the Mav Pov chapter that she wanted to tap Katya's ass.

On the other Hornet's mention doing a trollfic in order to piss off the anon that keeps mentioning routelock and the salty anons who blame him for everything.

On the other that cliffhanger.

So there's a lot going around, that I'm a bit confused on

>>
>>38923712
>>38923836
Also with that said I feel that maybe it might be canon due to the emotion imputted by Patty but I feel that also that what will be after the cliffhanger in which will be the true ending.

Hornet wanted to mess with anons like these>>38923617 so leaving it like that may be part of of his plan to troll him hard. Partially is what I kind of hope if this is canon.
>>
>>38923836
>It was very, very loosely hinted due to the Mav Pov chapter that she wanted to tap Katya's ass.
Oh I know that, it's just if its canon I'd of rather had a mention in one of the main threads, more referring to that cliffhanger in that regards. Again got no issue with it beyond that but to be honest I'd put a twenty on it being the trollfic Hornet had planned for routelock anon. I mean he happens to be away when it drops? Sounds like he had it release so it could fester and so he could get a laugh or two outta the Katyafags reaction. Sorry if I'm not making sense, have very little sleep.

Do you constantly wonder who could be behind this post, too?
>>
>>38923844
Considering how much of his writefagging turned into canon, I can understand his anger.

>>38923897
No, it's just that I feel that voting for Katya scenes is a more productive use of my time than yelling about how much I want to have Feelthy suffer a freak aneurysm and become a fully functional mind trapped inside his body for 10 years, unable to even blink even as he can understand everything said to him, and watch and listen as all of his friends abandon the apparent vegetable and his family tell him how much they hate taking care of him and wish he would just die, because he's become nothing but an unresponsive burden on them.
>>
>>38923905
If something like this happened to Ice or Slider, the same salt will appear.

Unfortunately all waifufags can be salty, it's just that Katya sometimes get poked fun at a lot and one or two really salty anons kind of set a bad example to people who like her.

The more agonizing part is that we either have ti wait till SWQ, SWQPJ or the next SW89 thread to find out about this and the wait is the hardpart.

>>
>>38924189
Yeah, with Hornet and Ghost not here all that's left is speculation.

I mean I could list all the times where we recently hung out with Katya or how Mav wanted to tap that ass.

Frankly it got old really fast.
>>
>>38924194
Just being honest there, Anon.
Have you never just wanted to smash a person in the face while walking along the street, just because they were walking just a little too slow?
Or wanting to push a person into the path of a train, because the way that they pushed through the people waiting on the platform annoyed you?
>>
>>38924225
>>38924252
Ignorance is bliss, and I'm just glad that Katya still gets screentime at least.
>>
>>38924275
No. Call-em a ass if he pushed through people and excuse myself is someone was moving a tad slow.

>>38924287
I guess. but it can't be helped Frank was doing missions, adopting daughters, etc

So screentime is sparse.

The inner katyafag in me wanted the lewds to be with Frank but Patty's thoughts were interesting.
>>
>>38924340
I'm a supporter of the big three actually, with best brit on the side, of course.
