You are Estelle, legendary hero and Dragon Warrior! You're neither a short, sturdy creature fond of drink and industry nor the moe personification of Dwarf Fortress. That would be Urist Twelfthbay over there, the cute little dwarf you've taken under your wing as a little sister (and she fights tooth and nail /against/ being called cute, which is just the most adorable thing).

Right now, though, she's crying. Your little sister is crying.

She's not crying because you and your allies are smack-dab in the middle of a great big battle- you've only known Urist for a little while, and she's not the type to get the heebie-jeebies about fighting! You don't know the specifics, but she seems pretty used to being surrounded by stuff like spiders and squat bipedal lizards and legendarily monstrous horrors from the great beyond.

... well, okay, the legendary monstrous horror from the great beyond is actually Urist's own creation, and it doesn't seem like she did that on purpose. That's not the sort of thing heroes summon on purpose, so maybe that's what she's crying about; it took a lot out of her, after all. Heck, she can barely move her head and all the braids weighing it down.

Urist is crying. It's not the cutesy quiet crying you get here in Gamindustri, but it also isn't that ultra-dramatic sorrowful full-out bawling; she's absolutely furious, gritting her teeth and wiping her tears in quick, frustrated motions, like she's trying to get rid of them as fast as they trail down her cheeks. You've seen this sort of thing before- the more she cries, the more frustrated she'll get, and then it'll all keep looping and feeding into itself until she bursts like a dam and either starts bawling, brawling, or both.

Even so... it hurts to watch, and something in your chest tightens into a knot. There's always that little voice in your head, insisting that you messed up, that those tears are your fault somehow. And then, like almost all the other little sisters you've ever looked out for, you'll lose her either literally or figuratively.

But as always, you shut that voice up by leaping right into the midst of the action and causing some legendary action of your /own/.

"Hold tight, Urist!" you roar, swiping aside the spiders just as they start to recover. "Big sis's coming for you!"

>13 - not a failure, but not quite a success!

Keeper's got a whole set of creepy crawly minions at her beck and call, and you can respect that- a good hero is nothing without a memorable villain to face off against.

In your case, you've got an entire menagerie of memorable beasties up your sleeve. Even as your boots pound against the ground, and even as you're beating back giant spiders with your legendary sword, pixels spiral up at the corners of your vision. You once again reach somewhere /inside/ you, unraveling your essence and letting part of it out to play- and you've been practicing! You've got that deadpan, electronic-sounding voice just right as you announce your actions!

"Estelle has summoned Hammerhood...!?"

You can't help that question mark, because the little beastie that coalesces in front of you barely reaches up to your knees: a roly-poly brown-furred creature in a coarse purple hood, wielding a simple wooden hammer roughly its own size. The moment it lays eyes on its surroundings, the Hammerhood squeaks and starts quivering worse than a dogoo surrounded by pudding enthusiasts, shuffling back behind you.

Right. Okay. You ignore the spiders' hissing noises (you don't speak Spiderese, but you're really sure there's a note of derision in there somewhere) and plant your legs firmly against the ground. You can work with this!

"Estelle has summoned Hammerhood B! Estelle has summoned Hammerhood C! Estelle has summoned Hammerhood D! Estelle has summoned Hammerhood E! Estelle has..."

Buoyed by their increasing numbers, the Hammerhoods waddle forward and start whacking away at the spiders with their oversized hammers. Sure, they miss more often than not, but they force the spiders to engage this new threat, however laughable. And when the Hammerheads DO connect-

You slam your shield in a spider's face and twirl away just in time- Hammerhood D follows up with an absolutely terrific blow that turns the arachnid into a loose collection of ichor and limbs.

One Hammerhood is a laughingstock, a sad little beastie that can barely lift its hammer and is scared of its own shadow. A /lot/ of Hammerhoods is a... okay, you can't say it's an /army/, but it's a distraction, and one that's prone to critical hits! And right now, a distraction is just what you need- and it's what Rokko needs, too; those spiders taking on the Blue Bomber either ignore the Hammerhoods and get thwomped in the heads, or are forced to turn away from Rokko and take buster shots up their abdomens.

A distraction is great, especially because you can't see Keeper's little lizard body anymore. You KNOW nothing good's going to happen when a boss-level opponent goes away for a little bit.

The road's clear- keeping your sword and shield at the ready, you keep approaching Urist at something close to a run, the sheer novelty of the dwarf girl's tears lending wings to your steps. Ten steps away, five steps away, three st-

... one step away from Urist.

And you absolutely failed to see /her/ coming.

Maybe just this once, you let your guard down at the wrong time, or allowed yourself to be distracted by Urist's tears. Maybe you were too confident in your own veteran status, or spent too much time in Lowee recently- everyone there treats you like the legendary hero you once were, and you're usually good at not letting that go to your head. It's entirely possible that praise seeped in and made you complacent, like a save file subtly succumbing to corruption when you least expect it.

You absolutely don't want to contemplate the possibility that you're losing your edge. You don't want to consider that some outcast from the depths of hell, might just be stronger than you-

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VNAU-ccQBE4

- even as an absolutely gigantic scythe comes out of nowhere and rips through your armored back. Only your belated attempt at dodging prevents you from being sliced entirely in half, but it's REALLY hard to feel good about that as you stagger past Urist and collapse to the ground, your little sister's screams echoing as if from a distance.

Hard-won instincts kick in, forcing you to push past the pain and prop yourself up to your elbows before the killing blow arrives- but it never does. There's only the taste of copper in your mouth, and only then do you realize that you've bitten through your lip as you look up at Keeper, standing right here in the flesh.

"You're getting old, 'hero,'" Keeper sneers, spitting out the title like it'll foul her lips if she lets it linger. The expression twists into a fanged smile, almost too wide to fit her face, and in a disconcertingly coquettish motion, she tosses her flame-red ponytail back. "Come, now. I expected a LITTLE more of a fight from you."

You can barely make sense of her as she reaches down with heavily-armored gauntlets to pick a shell-shocked Urist up by a handful of her braids; you count at least six pairs of eyes before you realize that five of them belong to her /armor/.

Horned skulls adorn her shoulders, knees, and midriff- no, they ARE her armor, their eye sockets glowing a baleful yellow as they seem to snarl at you. Chains, spikes, and enough armor to protect a small village wrap around her shoulders, adding at least a foot to her height; whatever isn't metalclad is strapped tightly with black leather- spiked black leather, at that- and framing her cleavage.

That's no adventurer. If you didn't know any better, you'd have pegged her to be the last boss to a particularly nightmarish dungeon...! Heck, you half-expect to see stiletto heels, the type that would click against the exquisitely-tiled floor of some queenly throne room; instead, her legs end in coarse, twisted goat's hooves, unnatural in how /natural/ they look on her.

You shift the point of your sword against the ground and lever yourself up to a half-kneeling position, ignoring your own blood pooling on the ground beneath you and the chilling weakness spreading through your body (oh, are those two things EVER related). Good thing you don't need your /blood/ to draw upon your /essence/, which you wind tightly around you- even those floating pixels seem tinged with red "Put her down," you growl. "She's not yours to take!"

Keeper rolls her eyes, her fanged grin fading. "Oh, /please/. I know it's always 'oh, don't do this, don't do that' with you types, but would it kill you to come up with a more interesting way to phrase it? Don't make me come over there and dOOF."

Hah! Good old Urist. Even now, when she's dangling above the ground and has to really reach for it, she doesn't miss a chance to punch someone in the gut, even if she IS... screaming incoherently with tears in her eyes. That's... probably entirely your fault, huh?

Right. Keeper's wrestling with Urist, trying to restrain her wildly flailing arms- this's your chance! You start chanting under your breath even as you ready your essence for one last strike against Keeper- one spell, one ability that'll bend Gamindustri's rules out of the way, even if it's just for a few seconds. As a bonus, you'll definitely live through it! Probably! Well, mayb-

That's when Rokko just sort of shoots Keeper in the head.

You are Rokko. Aliases include "Blue Bomber," "Rockman," occasionally "Super Fighting Robot." You are the moe personification of the Mega Man series. Currently suffering 28.6% damage, most of it superficial. This is within expected parameters. Quinte's repairs are appreciated, but rarely last longer than 48 hours of low-stress activity.

Today's events have not been low-stress activity.

You have seen Urist incapacitated. You have seen Estelle rendered largely inoperable. Where you used to feel nothing, you now feel your veins burning as if they were filled with gasoline. Irrelevant. You are the only one who is left, the only one with enough juice in her to complete the mission before you.

No problems detected. You will finish what was started. Sometimes, hope rides alone.

The charged shot should have rendered Keeper's head inoperable. It does not. That was anticipated, and you immediately follow up with constant pellet shots. Running forward to engage, as Keeper is most likely enraged- yes. She runs forward also, roaring irrelevant taunts and readying her scythe. This is also anticipated. Forestalling magic retaliation is of high priority, after witnessing the transformative effects on Urist's monster.

Hadoken and Shoryuken are pretty good, but Break Dash is better then Giga Crush (Outside of the Infinite Use version on the Ult Armor, which is pretty much the same as Break Dash.) Break Dash has 19 Shots, boosts speed, does enough damage to one shot most shit, has a huge invincibility period, and the charge for it can be finished before the dash ends allowing you to chain it until you run out of ammo. It's really really broken.

You can avoid complete dehydration by making sure your embark zone has a river or a brook. If booze runs out before you can get an industry running, they will turn to drinking water from river or constructed well. Note that dwarves will not drink milk even if available, it is only used for cooking or cheesemaking.

... you are Urist Twelfthbeard. You are a short, sturdy creature fond of drink and industry. You're also the moe personification of Dwarf Fortress and all that entails in this stupid fucking world of Gamindustri. Right now, you have a chunk of Sharicite, although that really pales to the fact that you're elbows-deep in Estelle's blood and have used up about ten units of cloth trying to bandage that huge fucking slash across her back, because you're not very good at first aid. At least it was enough to keep her stable until she could heal it shut, although she's not up for much after /that/, aside from mumbling apologies to you until you threatened to gut-punch her.

You're not sure HOW that threat worked, since you can barely see through all these Armok-cursed water coverings over your eyes and crying usually doesn't make threats even more badass, but really, the important thing is that Estelle isn't dying and she isn't trying to apologize again.

... you're also not sure how to describe what you just saw, other than "Rokko may have just fucking instantaneously vaporized Keeper and most of her army with thunderbolts." Insomuch as you can /vaporize/ someone who can possess bodies and pop around like a cockroach who just won't stay down. You're not optimistic, but at least-

(Cont.)
>>
>>38980279
Aaaaand Rokko goes down, too, except she's smoking like she's been subjected to some good old fashioned dragonfire. Great. You- you can't carry TWO bodies at the same time. You just can't. She's not actually /unconscious/, but moving might be beyond her for a little while.

...

The chicken is staring at you with venom dripping from its beak. You're not sure how much longer that status effect's going to last.

[ ] [DRAGGING] Take turns dragging Estelle and Rokko into one of the side caverns. You've got enough material on you to brick up a wall until you've all recovered enough to keep going.
[ ] [MINI-FORT] If you really stretch it, you can huddle into a corner of this cavern and build enough walls to keep you unmolested by the Forgotten Beast-slash-chicken. It... shouldn't be able to climb.
[ ] [SOS] You... you really hate to do this, but you could always call in a goddess. Except that goddess is Neptune, and you really don't think she's got much going for her outside of her HDD form (and you don't need craters right now).
[ ] [SOS-II] Rokko can connect to the, uh, internets, right? See if she can't send out a signal for help or something. Asking strangers for help probably isn't the BEST idea, but it might be better than 1) the Forgotten Beast eating you before you can fort up or 2) Neptune.

Urist really needs to train up her Diagnosis and Wound Dresser skills. And sadly climbing IS a thing. Unless your walls are smoothed natural stone, not constructed. But making an all-smoothed natural wall means you need to be outside to smooth it, and someone needs to lower that drawbridge if you want to get back to the safety of those walls...

>>
>>38980528
Oh, that's true. I'll work that into the next set of choices!
>>
Also, Rokko SDC when?
>>
>>38980294
>[X] [MINI-FORT]

With Estelle basically unconscious and Rokko rendered unable to move, your options are REALLY limited. Triply so since you're working on a timer that's a closed book to you.

... thankfully, this isn't the first time you've needed to jury-rig a protective safe zone in the middle of dangerous territory, so you've got a couple ideas. You COULD drag everyone into a side-corridor and wall it off, but that requires you to not fuck up and, say, seal yourselves into a cavern filled with even more monsters.

Frankly, you just haven't explored this place enough yet. More importantly, you're not exactly confident in your ability to not fuck things up. Maybe it's a miracle that this is only the FIRST time you've actively turned something into a Forgotten Beast.

So it seems like your best choice is to work yourself into a corner and build up from there. Thankfully, there aren't any hills or multiple z-levels in this particular cavern, so all you need would be two walls; the corner will supply the other two, and then it's just a matter of making floors and maybe a ceiling if you can scrounge up the supplies.

(Cont.)
>>
>>38980786
Estelle is surprisingly light; makes it easier to sling the unconscious Dragon Warrior over your shoulder and carry her to the corner. She's frowning in her sleep when you put her back down, which is weird since you made damn sure to be careful and gentle and not cause anymore horrific injuries to her, but...

Well, no time to think about /that/, you'll just have to talk to Estelle later. You've got to go back for RokkooHOLY ARMOK.

"I-I am heavy," she grates out matter-of-factly as you just about pop all your muscles just to lift her. The Blue Bomber can't even turn her head to look at you; only her eyes are moving, tracking your movement. "Do not bother, lifting me. D-Dragging will suffice."

... drag her? Like a sack of rocks? She /just/ got her goddamn armor looking pretty and not- not horrible, for crying out loud.

Rokko doesn't give her opinion either way, although her eyes flick over to take in as much of the cavern as she can see; her neck turns incrementally, too. Her expression's as unreadable as always, though

ROKKO: CHOOSE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING:
[R1] [DRAG ROKKO] Time is of the essence- you'll all just go get Rokko's armor fixed once you're out. We'll be lucky to get out of this alive.
[R2] [CARRY ROKKO] You are a /dwarf/. Like hell you're going to let a simple matter of weight keep you from hauling items! Or allies, in this case.

MINI-FORT: CHOOSE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING:
[F1] [WALLS] Really, time's of the essence. Focus on beefing your walls up as much as you can, maybe even work a drawbridge in there.
[F2] [WALLS & FLOORS] After last time, you don't want anyone digging up from under you again, not with Keeper so close.

Okay, it's getting pretty late and I still have to get up reasonably early tomorrow, so this is as good a place as any to end the thread!

The winning choices are
[X] [CARRY ROKKO] and
[X] [ALL OF THE ABOVE]

... so we'll kick off with that next time! (And perhaps we'll have better luck with the dice, tohoho).

Next thread is... /probably/ going to be on Monday, 3/30, at 9-ish pm EST, although my schedule's uncertain next week. Updates to scheduling will be at https://twitter.com/BlorpQuest, and questions can either go here or ask.fm/BlorpQuest.

Thanks a lot for participating, you guys, and I'll see you next time!

The multiple choice bit is a thing for all adventurers! (Which is convenient for us because hey presto, meta thing too).
>>
>>38981407
She will soon, until then she's still got her sad backstory.

How can you forget when he even made it to a title!
Rememberrrrr! Rememberrrrrrrrrr

(He was actually pretty cool in game tho)

What are Samus and Rokko, friends?
Or has she Ascended?
>>
>>38981464
That improves Rokko's odds of getting helpful system improvements, then. As opposed to a new weapon or something.
>>
>>38981503
She couldn't handle Other M, and Ascended to escape the shame.
>>
>>38981464
So what were Rokko's choice's when she chose hope, then?
>>
>>38981503
Wow, i dunno how i missed this, but if you turn them both into moe personifications theyre basically the same person arent they
>>
>>38981608
On the surface a bit yeah, but I mean Samus has power armor and Rokko is full robot.
>>
>>38981608
Maybe Samus is replaced with a moefied Metroid, because she's not moe enough to be in Gamindustri.

>Moe Ridley as the Metroid Mascot
>>
>>38981643
Of course, as a chozo biological experiment, samus isnt exactly a non artificial being either, even if she was born unaltered.
And the personalities are way way different too.

Im just saying, from like, a gameplay point of view though. If you look back at metroid and megaman uno, they could be siblings.

>>Moe Ridley as the Metroid Mascot

Now all I can hear is the Retsuprae Ridley voice coming out of a gangly bird-monster in a school uniform.
>>
>>38981760
Man, I should probably watch more Retsuprae stuff. I'm rewatching the pokecapn Sonic 2006 LP right now, just because of how hard it broke the players.
>>
>>38981760
>HEY GUYS, WHY CAN'T I GO TO THE SMASH FEST WITH YOU?
>>
>>38981503
Metroid-chan did Ascend! Although that hasn't put a damper on her friendship with Rokko.

... oh god, she WOULD look just like Rokko. Or she probably did back in the day, until more realistic graphics/Zero Suit Samus became a thing.

>>38981528
>>38981545
... I think in Rokko's case, most of her current upgrades are system improvements.

She already has just about all the weapons she could ever need, even if she's slowly losing them, bit by bit.
>>
>>38981978
She's still got internet access?

Blorp why are our party members so sad, is this because of Lowee or do other nations also have sad girls wandering the land?
>>
>>38981978
Slowly losing weapons? Not a problem once we fix her up a bit and get her a robit or 20 to kill. Bam, 1500 new stolen abilities.
>>
>>38982015
Most other nations dont have the same kind of deep, far raching history. I dont think they have many champions that have had the time to fall so low in the publics eyes.

We'd find all the ones that had anyways though.
>>
>>38981978
Stopping the deterioration takes priority, I think. Even if it involves deleting the weapons she has now, if she can pick up new ones again she'll be back on track.
>>
I know! Let's give Rokko one of the Holistic Detective's Spawn Hearts. They work pretty well.
>>
>>38981343
or we could... ya know re roll in the next thread?
>>

>"Put her down," you growl. "She's not yours to take!"
Estelle wants Urist all to herself
>>
>>38981978
>Ultimate Armor....gone
>Support Unit....gone
>Phase Dash....gone
>Dash....20% functionality, unusable in combat.
>Double Jump....70% broken, unusable.
>Shield Boomerang, Spear, Knuckle, Fans......irrepairable
>Charge Shot.....90% functionality, and falling
>Duck function.....I'll never do it, you can't make me.
