Recently: A film crew is documenting your journey. The royal family at Lace Point believes you may be their long lost daughter, and is running a DNA test. You've encountered Meloetta again, and she's begun to trust you. You've just won your 7th badge!

General rules:

There is a 10 minute voting period after each post. Non-contradictory votes will be combined as best as possible.

Write-ins for all votes or always welcome and encouraged. They may not all make it into the post or be altered to fit in, but I'll do my best to at least try to address the spirit of the write-in.

Very important or contentious votes may be redone in a stricter voting system as it comes up.

Combat involves rolls! Once there's a clear winner, we roll for the move accuracy/crit/secondary effect. Usually it's just a 1d100. Sometimes you can get a modifier to make a move more/less accurate, so be creative! Add flair, do tricks with moves, mess with terrain, whatever!

Call me out on a mistake and receive an apology butt or suggestive picture.

Time for fun!

You hold Robin’s hand and give her a tasteful peck on the cheek. You give her a wink to let her know there’s a lot more where that came from.

“K-Kat~” she struggles passed her embarrassment. “Are you alright?”

You look down. You’re covered in mud, cuts, and bruises. It’s really starting to hurt now that the excitement has worn off. “I’m fine,” you insist.

Vance dabs a cloth on your arm. “Good, then you won’t mind being still.”

“GGH!” You flinch.

“You should probably cover up,” Jeanine says. “Your shirt’s falling apart and you look like a swamp creature.”

“Yeah,” Clair says. “Plus you’re covered in mud.”

Beatrix laughs. “Your friends are funny!”

Prince Arledge takes his coat off and it looks like he’s going to hand it to you. It’s not clear if he’s trying to give a peace offering, or just being princely. At the same time, you see the director sending Tim over with a Devon Corp jacket.

>For our publicity value we do though.
It doesn't aid our publicity value in the slightest to wear his coat. At all.
>>
>>38995581
It's a better story to get the coat from the royal than to just put on a spare jacket. Are you not getting that?
>>
>>38995581
Yes it does? Royals are big celebs. And it's not like it ruins our street cred any more than the shots they've already gotten do, especially if combined with the badass story of how we got to this point.
>>
>>38995561
>For our publicity value we do though.
Our image doesn't really need royalty-cred, so thats not actually the case.
Actually taking i plays against our image, as it were, so it would be more harmful than anything if you decide to see it from that perspective.
>>
>>38995561
>we don't want any shitty Devon corp promotion either
We kinda do, just not in too blatant way. It's favors for favors.
>>
>>38995619
I think you're reading a bit too much into this.
>>
>>38995621
No it doesn't, how would that ruin our cred? Even if the whole royalty thing wasn't guaranteed to get out and used promotionally anyway since we've been followed by the crew throughout our island stop, it's not like royals = "the man" or whatever. And you could easily focus it on the differences too, like badass girl teaches royal children how to get shit done or whatever.

>>38995655
I'm pretty sure anons arguing carousing with royalty is somehow bad for our value to Devon corp are the ones actually reading too much into things.
>>
>>38995672
I still fail to see how wearing his grimey coat supports our promotional value, since it adds nothing to the stuff we are already doing, and Kat being reluctant about the royalty thing and not caring is a lot more in her image, and actual personality as it were.

It’s a really hard choice, but ultimately you have to decide.

“Thanks,” you tell the prince. “That’s a really nice gesture, but I should take the other jacket.” You glance over at Robin.

He nods. You can tell he understands you have your reasons, even if he doesn’t know what they are. He leans in close to tell you something so the others can’t hear. “Most people let me win.” He leans back and genuinely smiles. He looks impressed. “I suppose you’re not most people.”

Tim brings the jacket over, but hesitates. Awww, he’s shy. You gesture for him to give it to Arledge, and Arledge puts it over you.

Guile hands you and Robin a badge. “You’ve both proven your ability to look at the big picture, see through deceptions, and use cunning. It’s my honor to award you with these badges.”

You’ve gotten your seventh badge! You pet Trunks and Devon some more before putting them in their balls. It’s getting a little cramped in here.

“Come come!” Beatrix jumps around and grabs your arm. “We’ll go to the palace and put you in a dress!”

“You can’t do much training in a dress,” Vance says. “Assuming that’s how you want to spend the rest of the day. You have other clothes you can wear.”

"We're not going to party?" Clair says, a little disappointed. "I thought we were going to...uhh, celebrate."

[What sort of tweaks should we do for the dice system?

The way it runs now, players roll for Kat's Pokemon. the 1d100 accounts for accuracy (based on the accuracy rating of the move) the crit chance (94+ is a crit, according to the games) and for secondary effects (Rolling a 70+ when a move has a 30% flinch chance means you triggered the flinch)

“That’s really nice, but I think I should train,” you tell the cute princes that might be your little sister.

“Oh...okay.” She looks a little disappointed.

“And then maybe we can hit the town after,” you tell everyone.

All of you get into the airship and head back to the palace, where you’re told there’s a large training area. You change into your punkish clothes on board. Even the very professional servants are giving you an extra glance here or there. You probably stick out pretty badly.

You land and check it out. It fits the description alright! There are training dummies, a setup with moving targets, obstacle courses, and more. You see some of the palace guards here too. The queen is looking down from the balcony.

Beatrix runs off and comes back, dressed in the fanciest looking ‘practical’ clothes you’ve ever seen.

Robin looks eager to do some training too. She seems to have something to prove today.

You think about what you’re going to do for training when you see that large guard bump into Vance again.

The massive guard sneers. “I didn’t see you down there.” Now there’s a phrase you never thought someone would be able to say to Vance.

This time, Vance bumps him back. “You got a problem?”

You step up beside your friend. “You’d better watch it! Vance is the best martial artist in the region.”

The massive guard smirks down. “Then it’s a good thing we’re on Lace Point.” It seems he’s in the camp that the island should be considered entirely independent. You can tell his words are bringing up a divisive topic by how everyone around reacts.

“We’re a part of the region,” Beatrix corrects him. “And our guards must understand their geography better.”

“My apologies, your Highness. I spoke out of turn.” He bumps into Vance again. “Mainlanders have an infectious ignorance that must infect those around them.”

“Are you calling ME ignorant because you made a mistake?” Vance looks furious. “That doesn’t even make any sense!”

“Oh, the boy wants to challenge me to a duel, is that it?”

Vance looks to you for a second. You can tell he doesn’t want to do anything to put you in an awkward position. You give him the implied go-ahead.

“I just want to kick your butt,” Vance says. He’s not exactly great with words when he’s mad.

The guard snaps his fingers and someone lower in the ranks delivers two swords. “Three points then? Assuming there are no... accidents? ”

Vance looks too mad to back down. He reaches for a sword.

>Go get him, Vance!

You poke the massive man in the chest and pretend like your finger doesn’t hurt. It’s like jabbit a steel wall. ”What, too scared to fight a martial artist hand-to-hand?”

“I don’t want a duel, I just want to punch your lights out,” Vance rolls up a sleeve.

“Typical mainlander savagery. Very well, if you can’t act civilized in the presence of the royal family, it’s my duty to put you in your place.”

A small area is cleared out.

“Kat,” Beatrix approaches you and speaks quietly. “He’s the best. I know he’s being a jerk to your friend, but he’s really strong!”

You look at Vance as he stretches and gets ready. As huge as Vance is, that other guy somehow dwarfs him.

“Take him out, babe,” Jeanine tells him. “But be careful.”

You slap Vance on the back. “You can do it, big guy!”

“For you.” The massive guard towers over both you and Vance. “It’s not too late to stand down, boy. Perhaps your girlfriend wants to fight in your stead?”

Vance looks like he’s going to pop a vein. You put a hand on his chest. “Stay calm. Fight smart. He’s just taunting you so you make a mistake. Don’t do it like Ursaring.”

Vance still looks furious, but he acknowledges your point. “Thanks.”

You step out of his way and join the other spectators. Besides your friends, there are other guards, some servants, the royal family minus the king, and what guess are a few nobles. Their Pokemon watch too.

Oh, and the the camera crew of course. You have to hand it to them; they are really good at not drawing attention.

Vance lands a flurry of skilled blows, sending the large guard reeling back. You and your friends cheer as he presses on. It looks like Vance is going to smack this guy around for awhile. You feel a little silly about worrying.

"So princess, did I ever tell you about the time Vance punched out a Gyrados?"

She looks concerned. “I don’t think this is the time for jokes.”

“S-she’s not joking,” Robin says, equally concerned. “He punched the one Eddie caught, wasn’t it?”

“He didn’t mention that,” Jeanine looks...disturbingly hot and bothered. “What else has he done that I don’t know about?”

More than a few people pay attention as you and Robin go over his history of Pokemon abuse.

Your stories are interrupted as the beating Vance lays onto the guard slows down.

“Tired already?” He suddenly catches Vance’s fist, then his other fist, then headbutts him back.

Vance retaliates with a kick, but when he follows up with a second one the guard catches it and rapidly strikes Vance twice.

“Go Vance!” You shout as hard and loud as you can. Vance gets hit a few skilled blows. He dodges and moves so fast you think that he’d give Destiny a run for her money. You yell as he starts getting the upper hand again.

And then a terrifying blow sends Vance spinning around.

You mouth the words “pressure points” to him while he faces you. He turns around, but can’t react quick enough to avoid a heavy kick to his chest. You hope he saw what you said.

“You and your large friend seem to just disregard pain,” the prince says casually. “It’s an impressive trait, if a bit foolish.”

“It works though,” you tell him as Vance drags himself to his feet.

“Stay down, boy.” The guard circles him. He’s cocky, but not letting down his guard.

“Come on,” Vance sways. “Are you going to talk all day, or are you going to start taking this seriously?”

The guard rushes in. Vance moves like a snake and spins around him, then jabs him twice. The guard turns around, but you see his left arm isn’t reacting. This allows Vance to hit him again, he mixes solid blows and precise jabs. Each series of strikes gives him a bigger and bigger advantage.

Eventually, the massive guard tips over and falls.

You and your friends and the majority of servants cheer. There’s no bel, but the match is clearly over.

Vance turns around to face Jeanine. “After Regirock, hitting anything else isn’t so-”

The guard trips Vance from the ground, sending him falling to the ground. He hands hard and smacks his head on a stone.

A servant pushes through and checks Vance out. “Stay back, he might be concussed.”

You rush over to Vance and hold up his head while the medic waves a finger in front of Vance’s eyes.

Jeanie is storming over to the guard.

“Jeanine!” You yell. “Hold Vance’s head.”

She catches herself. Her concern for Vance overrides her anger and she takes you place. “Hey babe, it’s okay,” she holds his head and bothers the medic for details.

He assures everyone Vance will be alright. “But keep him away just in case, and watch for any swelling.”

You glare at the guard. "Takes a big man to knock someone out with a cheap shot after losing. Some honorable guard you are.”

“He should have paid closer attention.” He spits out some blood. “Now maybe-” his face contorts and his voice suddenly changes. “Now maybe... maybe... I have a mole on my butt that looks like a Caterpie. I stay up late so I can watch my neighbor in the shower through a small peephole. I wet the bed until I was twelve. My most embarrassing fetishes are as follows:”

Everyone looks around, confused. You have no idea what’s wrong him until you see Clair standing behind him. Her eyes are bloodshot and her mouth is moving in sync with his.

“That’s enough!” The princess steps in. “You’re on leave until further notice!” She yells at the guard. “Be gone from my sight. Now!”

The guard is escorted off and the crowd disperses.

“Let’s just put this all behind us,” Vance says. “I’m alright.” Jeanine dotes over Vance with an ice pack. He keeps trying to wave off the extra attention people are paying to him. He doesn’t want to make a big deal out of it.

“That was unfortunate,” the prince says to you privately. “We don’t usually have...incidents like that.”

“You’re a real leader,” you tell Beatrix. ”Quick and decisive.”

“Thanks.” She lights up at the compliment. “But, I’m the youngest, so it doesn’t really do me much good.”

You’re facing the princess, but your words are for the prince. "Still, you get it. Be the role model for your servants. A leader should be the ideal others should strive for."

“I suppose the principals are the same whether you’re leading Pokemon, people, or a kingdom,” the prince ponders. “You were pretty quick yourself, stopping your blonde friend by giving her directions.”

Huh, so he noticed that huh?

You check in on Vance. “I’m fine,” he tells you. “I was careless. Could we do some training again in a few days?”

You agree. It’s hard to say no right now.

You check in on Clair next. She looks almost as bad as Vance. “Ugh,” she’s holding her head. “Have someone fetch me something for this headache, will you? Brainjacking isn’t easy. Even the best usually can’t do it.” She smiles. “But that’s why I’m so great.” She thinks for a second. “Crap. I pretty much violated every ethical rule doing that.”

You leave her alone. It looks like she’s too tired to really talk much more right now.

You still have time for a quick training session before dinner.

You take out Vlad. “Hey buddy, ready to train?”

He slaps your hand with his wing. You grab him from the air and give him a gentle nuggie.

And he starts to glow.

Well, you guess that’s all he needed. He must have been right on the edge for awhile. If you keep him from evolving, he’ll probably learn the remainder of his natural moves on his own fairly quickly. If you let him evolve, he’ll be a lot stronger.

You stay by his side as he pulses and glows. Before long, Vlad evolves into a Crobat!

“Way to go, buddy!” He spins and loops through the air. He seems to be almost more comfortable now than in his old body. You guess that’s the benefit of waiting so long to evolve.

The camera focuses on him now as he swishes between people in the training area. He flies passed a servant and they flinch and tip a drink over. Vlad makes another pass and sets the drink upright just before the liquid pours out.

Vlad zoom and zips through the air. You have to laugh as he circles around people without touching them. You feel the wind stream off his wings as he goes over.

Time for Brave Bird.
>>
You split your time between U-turn and Brave Bird. You send him after one of the small targets in the training area, then when he comes back, you have him go after one of the tough training dummies. His speed and newfound power are very impressive. On his last attempt, he blows through the training dummy.

Vlad has a strong understanding of Brave Bird.

Vlad knows most of U-Turn.

You’d still like to try both moves in battle to be absolutely sure he has them down pat though.

Vlad zooms into your arms and knocks you over. He’s panting from all the exercise he just got, but he looks really happy. You scratch his belly. He’s really heavy now!

The queen approaches. “It’s no surprise you beat the gym on your first try. You train very hard.” She looks unsure, like she’s going to scare you off. “Kat, dinner will be shortly. We have some formal wear you could borrow.”

Oh! That’s what she wanted to mention. You look down at your punk clothing. It’s probably not the most appropriate thing to wear

“Oh, I have a formal black dress I can wear,” you tell her. “Don’t worry. Not all of my clothes are like this.” You’re joking about how you’ve only been seen in the rugged practical gear, and then these punky clothes. You feel a little silly wearing this in a crowd of formal wear. Even some Pokemon are dressed better than you.

She looks flustered. “I didn’t mean to imply... One wouldn’t-”

Oh man. She’s really worried about offending you. You put a hand on her arm. “I was just joking. I didn’t mean to imply that you were implying-”

You both laugh a little awkwardly. You understand what the other one meant though.

“Well, I’ll see you there, then.” She leaves a servant to show you a room to change in.

You get changed and meet your friends outside the dining room. They’re all wearing fancy clothing.

“How are you doing?” You lean up on your tiptoes to see if he has a scar.

He rubs his head. “Much better. Thanks. To be honest I’d take another one on the head than wear this,” he jokes at his tight suit.

“I think you look great,” Jeanine leans on him.

“Shocker,” Clair says. She looks like a doll her her frilly dress.

Robin blushes as she looks at you. “Y-you look great. I-I like that dress.” She’s wearing what looks like Beatrix’s dresses. If you weren’t familiar with Robin’s body, you wouldn’t notice the padding at the top since Beatrix has a larger bust.

You and your friends enter into the dining hall. The royal family is there already.

“Come, sit,” the king says. “Please, make yourselves at home.”

“Don’t worry about formalities,” the queen says. “Just sit wherever you’d like. We want you to be comfortable.” You can tell that’s not the usual arrangement. They’re making an effort to be a little more casual for your sake.

This room by itself is bigger than the orphanage you grew up in

There are paintings and busts lining the walls. Most of it looks like it’s worth more than the ship you came in on.

You sit beside Beatrix. She seems really excited about it, but keeps her composure. Robin takes the seat next to you.

“Arledge and Beatrix tells us you were very impressive at the gym,” the king says as he cuts his food. “You as well, Robin.”

You both mutter a thanks. You look around for a hint about what fork to use. To your surprise, Arledge is the one who catches your eye and points to the right one without anyone else noticing.

You grab the right fork and stab your food. Robin follows your lead.

“Arledge, are battles at your gym always like that?” The queen looks at the scar on your arm in concern.

He mumbles something about it being unusually rowdy.

“Why won’t we all get to know each other a little better,” the king changes the subject. “I’ll start us off. Many people don’t know this, but I trained as a coordinator in my youth. My Persian can put on quite a show.”

It goes around the table. Vance talks about his martial arts, Jeanine about aura reading, Clair about her gym, the queen about her interest in knitting, and Arledge about poison types. Beatrix has a mouth full of food and takes a pass.

“Something about me?” Robin fidgets. “Umm. K-Kat is my first girlfriend.”

The table becomes silent. You guess that nobody told the king and queen yet.

“I...see,” the queen says. “Well. I suppose it is the modern era. That sort of thing is more common these days, isn’t it?”

“What are your plans for children,” The king cautiously probes.

“Father!” Beatrix gets offended on your behalf. Arledge and your friends just drink or eat a lot to avoid having to talk.

“Of course,” he says. “My apologies. That wasn’t appropriate.”

>Kat was the only one of those kids mentioned at her orphanage.
Thats not actually true.
>>
“No problem. It’s a valid question.” You hold onto Robin’s hand in front of everyone. “I guess we’ll just keep on trying until one of us finally gets pregnant.”

The room falls silent again. This time though, it’s broken up by Clair and Vance trying not to laugh. The queen follows, then the king, then everybody. The entire table bursts into laughter at the absolute absurdity of the situation and answer. It’s a good, long time before everyone calms down.

“We hadn’t really thought about it. We’re a bit young for that sort of thing.” You hold Robin’s hand again. “Maybe adoption since...you know, the orphanage, but that’s a long time off.”

“A long time off,” Robin repeats. “W-We’ve got a lot going on right now.”

They seem to accept that answer. The dinner goes well after that. It seems that once that awkward dam burst, the conversation is flowing freely. You talk about places you visited. They talk about events they've cut ribbons at. You all get along well. You have to admit, this feels really natural.

“You’re certainly doing well,” the king says. “Not every trainer makes it so far, let alone has a television program.”

What were the other ones that were not adopted? I don't recall any being mentioned.
>>
>>39002833
It's been stated that she eventually was the oldest kid, so the implication is pretty clear
>>
>>39002869
Not any other kids at the orphanage were ever mentioned, except that other girl that wasn't adopted for the longest time. But Kat referred to other kids as old as her having lived there in the first few threads.

Why did you have to mention the adoption?
>>
>>39002891
No, Kat was definitely referred to as the oldest. The other girl that was Kat's friend was adopted when they were like 10 or something and all interactions Kat has with people her age are from outside the orphanage, like the boy whose mom volunteered there or the other boy who was getting lewd with her then called her trash.

Because other kids left as soon as possible, not through adoption, she didn't for the longest time because of her problems with the law.

>You were pretty late in getting your license. Getting in trouble all the time will do that. When you finally declared you wanted to be a trainer, the orphanage practically packed your bags. Most other kids were out as soon as they could be, but your run-ins with the law kept you around much longer than anyone wanted.

Eh they can edit that out. And product placement of a mainland company by the royal family might make a self-reliant island pissy.

“Sorry about the cameras, I know that’s probably making things a lot more awkward.”

“Being in the public eye is something we have to expect,” the queen says. “But it’s very impressive that someone so young has such a following without the...upbringing and circumstances the rest of your family.” She pauses. “The rest of us enjoy.” You guess she’s still hopeful it’s true.

“Thanks,” you keep it humble. “I try my best. But to be honest, there’s a bit of a situation with the cameras.” You tell an abridged story about Robin’s eye, and the arrangement for the replacement. They listen attentively to every detail and finish the last of the meal. “And that’s why they’re following us.”

“She has your kindness,” The king tells the queen. You’re flattered, but with that comment it sounds like he’s starting to believe you’re their daughter too.

You let it slide. It’s the kind of thing that’s best left alone.

Dinner wraps up. You spend some more time chatting with them about this and that.

The king and queen have one last question for you. “So, Kat, will you are your friends be staying the night? We have separate rooms for each of you available.”

You make note of the emphasis on the world ‘separate.’ You guess they want to avoid anything too lewd going on under the roof right now.

Beatrix looks like she wants to ask something

>You’ll get a room somewhere and return in the morning

I hate reality tv, but I'd watch the shit out of that
>>
Been thinking, and we may be a princess. In these days, when inversion and subversion of tropes tends to be the norm, about the only way to inject a twist is to play it straight.
>>
>>39004031
But then again, the fake-out would be to get us to the point that *we* start to believe that. At the point where we're just not sure anymore, either way things go could be a twist: and that's what's making this so fun.

I can also imagine little tick marks for each time we remind people how much of a long shot this is going next to "true", and marks next to "lie" for each time we let Kat start to believe it.
