The Calixis Sector was tamed during the Angevin Crusade 2,000 years ago over a period of 62 years. It only took you 8 years to turn it into a bloody wasteland. Hundreds of worlds lay burning in the void. Those that aren’t are being torn apart by Tyranid swarms. Trillions of mortals have had their skulls added to the Skull Throne. Only the bright Hive World of Scintilla and parts of the Malfian sub-sector have escaped decimation. But their time is coming. They are surrounded on all sides, cut off from the rest of the galaxy, and slowly losing hope.

In the final days of your Black Crusade they’ve grown desperate: hasty alliances with Eldar Craftworlds, recalls of every Rogue Trader in the Expanse, and almost hourly Astropathic pleas for someone, ANYONE, to save them. Yet there is no one. In the eighth year of your campaign, Abaddon the Despoiler has launched his own Crusade out of the Eye of Terror. The entirety of the Segmentum Obscurus is on fire. It is the greatest massing of the Forces of Chaos since the Horus Heresy, if not greater still.

And all of that is thanks to you. Over the years you’ve come to realize what the visions of greatness, glorious bloodshed, and destruction were during your “birth.” They were of the scar you’d leave on this Galaxy before ascending to a throne all thought unshakable. Perhaps it is. Perhaps you will fall before the wrath of Khorne himself, unworthy of such godhood. Or perhaps by the day’s end there will be a new chant across the stars:

BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GODDESS!

Welcome to Khornette Quest.

If you’re a die-hard lover of canon, I suggest you turn away now. Like all things 40k, the gauntlet runs from “worshiping the printed word” to “over the top silliness.” Most of the time it’s somewhere in between. Others it swerves hard to one side and/or breaks this model entirely. You’ve been warned in advance.

Alternatively, if you’re not at all familiar with canon or want more details on something, just ask!

All rolls go against a specified characteristic in the style of Black Crusade. You’ll want to roll under the characteristic value in order to pass the check. The more degrees of success (every multiple of 10 counts as 1), the more awesome of a result. A 1 or an 8 is a guaranteed success, and a 100 is a guaranteed failure.

Best of three rolls when it’s called for, with a 1, 8, or a 100 instantly taking precedence. If multiple characteristics are being rolled for each 1d100 counts for its respective test. Any rolls prior to the call for one and those not linking said post will be ignored.

IMPORTANT: Your rerolling abilities are gone for this final thread. This is it. No more cheating fate. May the Dice Gods be with you and your blade be swift.

Blatant Samefaggotry and overly lewd write-ins will be ignored. Try to save your laments about the Quest ending until the end if you can help it too. It’ll keep us from hitting auto-sage early.

“Warmistress, we’ve entering visual range of Scintilla.”

You rise from your command throne in dramatic fashion, throwing your arms wide. As you do your armor instantly materializes and Fatebreaker reforms into a set of claws. Sure you’re showboating a little, but it’s good for morale. “Finally! We end this today! Show me what fight these beaten dogs have left to offer!”

A pale sphere materializes on the viewscreen. Even from this distance you can see the glassed portions of the planet that used to be Hive Tarsus and Gunmetal City. After that first wave of attack your forces were beaten back by the combined might of Battlefleet Calixis, the Iron Hands Space Marine Chapter, and the Eldar Craftworlds of Il-Kaithe and Yme-Loc. Since then you’ve relied on constant hit and run tactics to whittle down their combined fleet. Now you only have the damaged Yme-Loc, three Battle Barges, and half of the once proud Battlefleet to worry about. And of those your Intelligence reports most are running low on supplies and ammo.

“HAH,” you laugh boisterously. “I could breathe in their general direction and they’d topple over!”

“Perhapssss,” chitters Sytili. You glance to your right to see her latest form, a Khornate-Mutated Hive Tyrant strain that she obtained after losing her previous biomorph in the Battle for the Lathes. “But I feel ssssomething building within the Eldarssss. I would ssssugessst caution, or at leassst letting my biofleet move in firsssst.”

“She hash a point there lassh,” Con’ree adds from your left. He’s been largely in charge of the Scintillan blockade since your fleet was first repelled. “I shuggest alsho shending in the Boyz as cannon foddah. We’ve taken heavy losshes from them in the pasht when they’ve got all Wearhd.”

You rub your chin in thought. It’s an entirely sensible course of action...

“AH YOU’RE BOTH A BUNCH OF NINNIES,” yells Kharn from the deck below you. “WE SHOULD JUST CHARGE IN AND SMASH THEM TO PIECES.”

Sytili rolls her eyes and replies sarcastically, “Becaussse you didn’t kill enough of ussss the lassst time that happened.”

“HEY. I SAID I WAS SORRY.”

You turn back towards your command throne and press a button that will send your voice across the entire fleet. Zerimar scrambles to announce you but you cut him off with a sharp jab of your hand.

“I’ll spare you the sixty-four title introduction and the long speech. You all know who I am. You all know why we’re here.” You pause, letting your eyes drift until they land on Sytili. “I speak to you on the eve of our victory over the Imperium Dogs not to motivate you but to assure you of one thing. Whatever happens next, you ALL have earned the right to have your skulls placed nearby the Skull Throne.”

From there you nod at Zerimar at let him handle the usual “pleasantries.” As he shouts liturgies of your coming over the Vox, you walk over and shake hands with Sytili. “Take care of them, Sytili.”

She looks at you quizzically. Then her eyes widen slightly in realization. “It issss time, isssn’t it?”

“Indeed, it is. I would not blame you if you decided to pull back the Biofleet.”

Her raspy laughter waylays your concern. “Never. We are jusssst asss much invesssted in thisss asss you. But how will you cover the gap? We no longer have the Railgunsss of the Engine.”

Kharn takes this opportunity to stroll up behind you and add his two cents. “WELL SHE’S GOING TO FIRE HERSELF OUT OF A MACROCANNON. THAT’S HOW.”

You sigh, “Thank you, Kharn. I take it you’re going to be coming with me then whether I like it or not.”

“YOU THINK I’D MISS THE CHANCE TO BE SHOT BLADE-FIRST INTO A SPACESHIP?”

“No… I suppose not.”

You take one last look around the bridge of the Slayer of Raptor. It will be one of the last things you see in the mortal realm, after all. You take in all the faces there and etch them into your memory. But you do not linger. You have a cannon to be shot out of.

(cont)
>>
>>39009977

The actual ejection process hardly phases you, even though you are the only thing being spat out of the massive barrel (you forced Kharn to get his own macrocannon). As you soar through the darkness of space at blinding speed towards the Scintillan blockade you ready Fatebreaker. Drawing it back behind you, it turns into a sword the size of the Grand Cruiser, it’s length wreathed in crimson flames. This has the added benefit of both signalling your fleet to engage and making you a target for the Eldar.

About halfway across the damaged Craftworld unleashes a massive bolt of psionic lightning from one of its spars. On cue you swing Fatebreaker over your head and intercept the bolt. Your blade parts the spell as if it were the air itself, but that’s not all. It tears into the very fabric of reality and begins opening a hole into the Immaterium. The farther you extend your swing, the larger the new rift grows. By the time you finish the entire system has been turned into the eye of a brand new Warp Storm.

What happens after that is a slight blur to you. The chaotic energies bounce you around as the Warp Storm roars into life and begins casting a permanent red glow across the entirety of the Calixis Sector. Then there’s a small “pop” and you’re within a white void.

“Good luck, Sis~” you hear, a faint whisper.

Then you’re before the Brass Fortress itself. Beyond those Brass-laden doors lies Khorne himself. It’s time.

You may be here to fight for the Skull Throne but you’re not about to dishonor the being that made you in the first place. As such, you stride up to the doors and knock eight times.

“ENTER, DAUGHTER OF MINE.”

The gates part, permitting you entrance. Inside you see the familiar sight of the Blood God himself looming over countless skirmishes atop piles of skulls. The moment you step past the threshold every daemon stops what it’s doing to turn and look at you. It’s no wonder why. You are the same size as Khorne now it seems. You’re kinda hard to miss.

“HELLO, FATHER,” you roar back as respectfully as you can. “I THINK YOU KNOW WHY I’M HERE.”

The very ground itself shudders as the Blood God rises from his throne. Skull piles topple over and daemons begin scrambling to get out of the way. “INDEED I DO. BUT IF YOU EXPECTED ME TO JUST LET YOU HAVE IT…”

“NEVER,” you reply. “I SHALL WIN IT IN AN HONORABLE DUEL OR HAVE MY SKULL REST AT YOUR FEET.”

His laugh is like the very essence of thunder. It even causes an impromptu blood storm to begin raining down across the fortress. “THEN AN HONORABLE DUEL YOU SHALL HAVE.”

Worldender flies into his palm from its resting place against the side of the Skull Throne. He gives it a few practice swings then settles into a form you’ve never seen before. “COME THEN. LET US SEE IF YOU ARE READY.”

So this is it. The Khorne fight. Because it's a fair fight this is how it will go down:

You need 8 successes to win. As does Khorne. Rolling a 1 or an 8 counts as two successes. Rolling a 100 counts as two failures.

We'll start with two rolls, so 2d100 if you'd please. And remember, no rerolls.

Two opposing mountains, the both of you remain perfectly still. Then in an attosecond Fatebreaker meets Worldender. So powerful is the clash that skulls are sent flying into the air and out of the Brass Fortress itself. They mix with the blood rain and add to the din of battle. Each attack either you or Khorne makes is met with a counter of its own. Neither of you avoid being struck though. A gash here, a nick there, both of you have begun spilling blood.

But you’re just a bit faster than he is for the moment. As he cuts across his body you bring Fatebreaker down and slap Worldender aside. In the resulting opening you take the chance to remove one hand from your blade and punch Khorne squarely in the face.

He roars in delight at being struck and unleashes a torrent of blows in response. Soon it’s no longer about the fight itself. The two of you are moving so fast and so powerfully that your physical forms are barely within daemonic comprehension. Anyone watching at this point would only see a whirlwind of red death showering the area with sparks and blood.

Eventually your two minds meet above the battle below. It’s very reminiscent of when he pulled you aside and raised you up to Bloodthirster status.

“So then, Girl,” Khorne says. “I see my dear brother Tzeentch has given you his blessing. I do not fault you for it, but I would have been fine simply not using Worldender. Then again, I have not had the chance to use it properly for ages, so for that I thank you.”

“HAH. He can be whatever he wants, even a little girl, so long as he’s not pink like a certain someone.”

Both of you fall silent as you each wrench your blades free and score hits on the other. Then it’s back to the Whirlwind.

“For the record,” chirps a rather familiar voice. “I have no ‘true’ form. Everyone sees me differently.”

“SOD OFF BIRD. WE’RE HAVING A MOMENT.”

“Fine fine. Just thought I’d say something since you two can be heard across the Warp.”

Tzeentch’s presence vanishes and leaves you alone with Khorne once more. He remarks, “I take it he, she, whatever has told you WHY I’m doing this then?”

“PAY ATTENTION GIRL. CAN YOU NOT FIGHT AND TALK AT THE SAME TIME?”

“Sorry. Won’t happen again.”

So far it looks like they don't matter at all and its just a coin flip, I don't mind him getting 2d100 or something but 3d100 just makes it a coin flip, and not much more then a disguised one at that.

Another bellow from Kharn’s physical form marks you maiming a leg. He’s quick to return the favor, slicing off your wings as you duck low.

“Hopefully I’m living up to your standards, then,” you fire back at him.

“SOME, but not all,” he replies. “If you fall here I will have failed to create something greater. But if you win then I was never truly worthy of the Throne in the first place. There is no end to power, girl. Even for a Chaos God.”

“I suppose that makes sense. A warrior never stops learning and growing stronger, even if he’s a master beyond all others. Or he shouldn’t anyways.”

Relative silence falls as the two of you continue to slug it out below. Given both of your wounds your movements have become less choreographed. What was a waltz of steel is now more a jitterbug of action and reaction. And yet it’s still very much an even fight.

> [1] Focus on the action

I think they're getting the 'coin flip' from the fact that its the same odds as 1d100 vs 1d100, which is relatively the same odds as a single 1d2 being rolled, a coin toss of heads or tails.

I reckon if we beat Dad we shouldn't kill him, unless he really really wants that, but we should give him a nice peaceful life he can enjoy, maybe something like being a simple smith on a neutral feudal world or something.

Though if we don't win then I don't know what to think other than that would be rather sad and pathetic for the end of the quest.

For the most part you return to “you” and focus on avoiding Khorne’s attacks. Continually being on the offensive has done neither of you good. So you change your counterattacks into simple redirections. This, of course, angers the Blood God, his attacks gaining a new sort of fury. But he’s just as injured as you are. Perhaps worse so, since it’s his leg and not an arm. His footing’s not as stable as it could be. All you have to do is apply a bit of pressure in that direction while parrying to send him slightly off balance. It’s just enough to keep you from being cleaved in twain without having to resort to changing Fatebreaker into a shield.

Soon Khorne mirrors your attitude. What were actual strikes become mere feints. Neither of you is actually trying to strike the other. Instead it’s more maneuvering your opponent into an advantageous position for a proper attack.

It takes some doing but you’re able to draw Khorne into breaking his conservative stance first. Worldender screams through the air at your head but you’re ready for it. Even with just the one arm, you change Fatebreaker into a Chainaxe and slam it into the Blood God’s blade. Right where it’s the weakest. There’s a tremendous cracking sound, far louder than any other noise your duel has produced up to this moment. Perhaps the loudest sound ever to exist up to that point. All to signify the fact Worldender has shattered into eight pieces.

As Khorne screams in rage you kick him in the stomach and send him flying back into the Skull Throne. It too explodes under the force of impact. Many an ancient skull goes flying from its careful position only to be lost in the mountains of craniums. Suffice to say, Khorne’s literally on fire with fury.

A weaker, less honorable warrior might take the opportunity to try and stop the fight here. But not you. You turn Fatebreaker back into its default blade form and slam it into the ground. From there you walk over to offer out a hand to Khorne.

“Get up. I’m not done beating you senseless yet.”

He glares at you, going between your face and your hand. “You broke my sword.”

“I know.”

“YOU. BROKE. MY. SWORD.”

Khorne lunges up past your hand in an attempt to get a hold on your neck. Luckily you prepared for such an eventuality, making sure your weight was on the soles of your feet and not your toes. All you have to do is lean back, let your tail handle the counterbalance, and use Khorne’s own momentum against him to send him flying.

He collides with the wall of the Brass Fortress, causing the entire structure to shudder. This time he’s quick to hop to his feat. By now he’s a literal inferno. Even the skulls around him are beginning to crack and shatter from the excess heat.

Yet he’s also laughing.

“COME THEN. WE SETTLE THIS LIKE TRUE WARRIORS SHOULD.”

“Well? What happened next?!” demands Ignitrix from her position on your lap.

You chuckle, motioning around at the ruins of the Brass Fortress. “Well I’m sitting here, aren’t I?”

“But you’re leaving out the best part!”

“Hey if you wanted to watch that badly you should have come earlier.”

Tzeentch puffs out with a huff as she hops off of you. “Stupid Khornate. Can’t even tell a good story. I came because the racket stopped, not because I wanted to watch! Where’s his body then?”

“Oh, after breaking each others bones again and again we came to arrangement,” you reply.

“Which would be…?”

You smile. “I ‘win,’ and he goes off to fight a different kind of battle until he feels ready to fight again. Then when he is we’ll fight again. In this way we’ll always be growing to greater heights.”

Ignitrix rolls her eyes. “You’re totally just copying Gork and Mork.”

“Hey it was his idea, not mine. If it makes you feel any better, I’ll let you actually handle chronicling all this instead of writing it myself.”

She looks past you at a place somewhere behind your shoulder. “I suppose I had better do just that. Otherwise you’re liable to cock it up like you did MY SOCKPUPPETS.”

You shrug and begin to pick up the skulls to form them into a proper Throne once more. “Just make new ones if it bothers you that much, Sis.”

All you get in return is a grumble and her whisking away in a flash of blue light. Around you various daemons of Khorne have begun filtering back into the Fortress. Some look up at you with respect, others settle on cleaning and rearranging the mess. In all, the realm of the Blood God returns to normal with a short period of time, proper skirmishes and all. It’s not all that hard managing it, truth be told. You even have a lovely set of Tyranids to go with your Orks now. But what’s really on your mind is one thing: Where the hell are you going to put the bloodbath?

Well here we are. Six months come and gone. What started as a “Fuck it, let’s see what happens” improv comedy exercise turned into a 39 thread-spanning romp of 40k canon destruction. None of it would have been possible without you all. Though we could have done without certain faggots.

First off is the question on everyone’s mind - why are we ending so quickly? The short answer is I’m not exactly confident about my health moving forward. I would much rather give you all closure than ending up going AWOL midway through an arc. I’ve already had to move and cancel far too many threads for my liking and it’s only getting worse. I mention this not out of need for sympathy but because you deserve a straight answer. And no, I won’t use something like akun to get around it.

On a related note, I should probably talk about pacing and continuations. In the beginning of the quest I was largely fishing around and seeing what you all jumped at. That’s why Ysai took a lot longer to handle than anything else whatsoever. Once that was done I sped you all along best I could, leaving purposeful gaps in time should anyone wish to go back and fill them in. Maybe that’s made things more lackluster but what’s done is done.

Also, you are more than welcome to reuse and repurpose characters/settings/w/e. I don’t need credit or anything like that. All I ask is that you remain respectful to the source material.

Finally I should address the obvious “What’s next?” After the Oneshot on the 1st I’m not so sure. I’m definitely going to be taking a break. After that I may or may not come back and run a few things. Some might not even be KQ-related. Just watch Twitter I guess, though you will have to put up with Monstergirl-related stuff in the meantime. Fair Warning.

That’s all I have off the top of my head. I’ll be sticking around to answer whatever other questions you have for awhile.

It was a fun ride.

Not YET it isn't. Seriously if you saw Khorne(tte) wandering over to go take a dip would you want to be anywhere near that?
>>
>>39015696
Khorne..maybe.

Cinder...Absolutely.

>Though we could have done without certain faggots.
But if not for those faggots, we'd still be wasting our time on shit like Acerea.
>>
Thanks dude. Great quest

Did I miss any loose ends?

You can fuck off now shitter, piss of back to the cesspit that you climbed out of
>>
>>39017936

Not as of yet.

As for the idiot who replied to you, he's a long-standing dumbass from the Monstergirl community. Just ignore him. He's still pissed he's banned from IRC after... yeah it's been about a year now.

This is also why you should let your threads hit sage before walking away at the end, QMs.
>>
>>39014612
Good quest, boss. I like it when they don't overstay their welcome. I hope you recover soon, not strictly because I like your QMing but also because hospitals are great places to catch shit from sick people.
>>
RIP in peace, you magnificent bastard. My loss that I was not part of your earlier threads. May we meet again in whatever hellhole you deem worthy for you.
>>
>>39017706
Actually, I'm pleased with how things turned out. ELH used the rest of his time QMing to focus on his strongest characters, Cinder and Ignitrix. He puts so much effort into them and their stories because he's motivated to do so, and it works, and we all have a good time. Not so with Acerea, but you've already heard all I have to say about her being akin to a creative tumor, probably in double.

Those drawings I commissioned from Inker were pretty great though.

I am a veteran trollslayer and faggotrender, no worries. Get better soon.

those should be the names of the practice swords we made that didn't vanish into the unknown

I'll take off the trip since it's >blogshit but I've seen shit in hospitals that'd make Nurgle blush.

Needless to say, thanks you all for the well wishes. I'd rather you not worry about it though. I was already on the fence about mentioning it but I thought "Eh, it's just a shitty colon. Nothing major." Half of /tg/ has similar conditions from what I've seen. We're all full of shit.

Have a cute T-Rex girl.
>>
>>39018103
Once again, I apologize for insulting you so a few threads back. I was saying bullshit in an attempt to get a reaction out of you, and some things, like "Can't work outside his rails" and "Not putting in the effort," were especially false. I hope I didn't sour this thing for you.
>>
>>39018468

Not at all. I wouldn't be running a quest on 4chan of all things if I wasn't capable of taking criticism and/or possessing thick skin.

Admittedly, I know my fight scenes are nowhere near what they should be. Choreography was never a strong point for me. And yes it is rather ironic I ran KQ of all things with that being the case. Shut up Iggy.

Future stuff (if I do any at all) will be more dice free if I can help it. A lot of the problems that cropped up I feel were a result of high-power character, dice gods having a laugh, and so forth. Part of that is also due to how BC as a system is but that's more a FFG gripe than anything else.
>>
>>39018599
I think you should go Average of three to up difficulty if high-power characters are a problem. That Sytili oneshot was kinda cool in how it was dealing with a low-power character, but even that was overpowered for the situation at hand. If anything, rather than downing the strength of the characters, you should work on making the situations difficult relative to their strength.

Maybe make it an "Average of 3 rolls" or something if you want it harder.
>>
>>39018782
>Average of three
been tried before anon, terrible idea, it just does not work, there are many reasons why the 'standard' is best of 3
>>
>>39018782
Averaging rolls sucks flaming arse, you just need to construct thing so they present a perceived challenge, best example of that in this quest to date was probably the Rak'Gol when we found and got the Engine

Best thing is to find that fine line between giving your players freedom, and saying "No, Sabin, you cannot suplex a fucking train."
>>
>>39019867
tbh, the best thing for me is to actually see a quest with a definite ending. When I see "quest number eight hundred fifty two" (-> hyperbole), I just don't want to even touch it, but KQ (King's Quest, hah!) had a more or less well-defined, player-defined arc and ending. Focusing on the two main chars (Iggy, Cinder) helped as well. Sometimes less IS more and with two main chars, rather than four, the plot got concluded in a timely and satisfactory manner, rather than pulling a Wheel of Time on us.
