You dream you're a lake eternally leaking water through a dam and slowly growing smaller. The river that feeds you is insufficient to match the drain of the opened dam. You approach near emptiness where you become a mere watery pit, and then the dam closes and you being to fill up again.

Your eyes open and you see the first scattered rays of light poking through the swamp. Above you haer the sound of lizards beginning the slow process of rousing. The furnace behind you burns as strongly as it did last night, but now you feel its heat even more strongly. Stretching your limbs you feel a dull throb from your tail, the last vestiges of your previous injury. Time to start the day.

Might as well get to work. The sun may be up but you have more im- more im- Okay you can't finish that thought, basking is too dear to you. But still you should try to get some info before long. You're on a time limit. At least you're not glowing and nobody noticed you glowing.

You slip out of the forge and take in the dawning day. Then you catch yourself reflexively starting to bask and look for a way to climb to the upper level. The building is made of some kind of grey stone and is covered in little pits and grooves that offer themselves to climbing quite well. You see a lizard or two slip off the roof and drift away into a more traditional wooden building you didn't notice last night. Now that you look there are a couple buildings here you didn't notice last night. You catch the faint scent of food from it as they wander through the cloth covered doorway.

One lizard grabs you attention by going into neither the forge or the food smelling building, instead he walks over to a bunch of sticks fastened together with rope to hold another long stick up between them. The long stick has been attached to a rock for some reason. It's about as tall as he is, and he spends a couple minutes checking the ropes on the device before heading into another structure.

There's noise from the food house now. As well as from the forge. Lizards talking. There's a small commotion from above as well. From what few words you pick out you think some lizard just noticed your brother.

A top to bottom search should turn up at least one brother. You climb up the wall to the forge and have to sideways climb a bit to avoid another lizard passing in the other direction. He gives you a funny look but you continue on your way. On top of the building you find a ring of lizards of varied sizes gathered around something too small to be seen. You have a sneaking suspicion you know what it is though.

"Hey," you call.

"Hey," your brothers voice echoes back from the center of the huddle. A few heads turn to look at you and one large older lizard with a burnt brown and orange coloration complains.

"Two of them? We don't need two eggs wandering around the place," he sounds annoyed. You ignore him and make your way into the center of the lizards and meat up with your brother, exchanging another set of "heys."

"Where'd you two come from?" the funny colored lizard asks.

"Gots here last night," your brother explains.

"We're lookings for our mom," you add.

The older lizard scratches his head and turns to a lizard to his side that looks like he sunned to long. "Anyone here lay eggs and forget about it?"

"I don't think so?" the burnt lizard answers, and looking around a couple others shake their heads.

"Your mom ain'ts here," the old lizard tells you. "Anything else?"

"We know she isn't here," you say defensively, "Auntie says she's very hard to miss." Your brother bobs his head in agreement.

"Who is your aunt?"

You draw a blank for a moment. You've called her auntie all the time and are drawing a blank on her actual name. "Kuru's friend." You answer. Maybe Kuru doesn't have many friends.

"Sarissa," your brother puts in.

"You forgot your aunt's name?" the old lizard seems concerned.

"Haven't had much use for names," you tell him, "We don't even have them."

"What? Why don't you have-" he stops as the burnt lizard whispers in his ear and understanding dawns on his face, "Ah, you're a pair of Kasha's! She mentioned she laid eggs. I suppose she wants to name you too then." He nods to himself at this bit of deduction. "Well I'm Rog. This is my partner Rolo," he gestures to the burnt lizard. "And your mom ain't here. If you want we can put some food in you and send you in the right direction. She was just here a couple days ago so I could check her gear."

"Is there anything dangerous around here?" you ask the old lizard as the others start taking off to do their whatever it is they do around here.

"Here? Not really. Though I suppose at your size the Kookaburra might gives you some trouble. That one can bes a right bastard if you're not armed right," he seems to get lost in thought as he stands up and wanders off.

"I'll get you some supplies, just wait a bit for everyone to get fed," the baked lizard says, before wandering off.

"I'm gonna go watch the furnace," your brother tells you before disappearing off the roof with the others.

Oh no. You've nothing to do. And the sun is in the sky. How EVER will you entertain yourself.

You watch from the forge chimney as the sun rises, and you assume a basking posture. Below you see a pair of large lizards appear hauling the largest catfish you've ever seen behind them. They talk with the burnt lizard a bit then the catfish is sent into the food house and the burnt one leads the two new lizards into another building. They leave a couple minutes later with a shiny metal thing.

You're enjoying your nice bask several minutes later when you hear a dull "kachunk-tunk." You look to see what it was and glimpse the lizard with the stick and rope contraption a moment before something hits the chimney and knocks the portion your sitting on into the smokey tunnel. You quickly grab the sides of the inside and clamber back out, coughing out a bit of smoke you inhaled in surprise. You hear lizards cry out below as the rock hits the furnace below. It probably sent embers everywhere.

The old lizard comes out of the forge and looks up to see you sitting on his chimney. You wave your hands innocently and point at the rope thing. The lizard follows your finger and in short order is yelling at the lizard who is trying to explain something in an excitable voice, apparently uncaring of the trouble he's caused.

>Pursue burn colored lizard, acquire food and supplies

In the interests of not falling to your firey death you decide to vacate your perch and seek out sustenance directly. You spot the boss' assistant going into the food hut and follow her in. Inside you find lizards around helping clean and prepare the massive catfish from earlier. Some lizards are busy starting up a firepit that crosses the entire length of the building. In the mass of moving lizards you lose track of Rolo and it takes you a few minutes until the lizards stop shuffling around as large catfish steaks are set out to grill on the fire.

Rolo nods as you settle in next to her and continues giving orders to the others. Once the boss arrives along with your brother the rest of the lizards from the forge, the prepared meat is distributed around the room. You recieve your own sizable chunk of meat for you and your brother.

"What smells like burnt lizard?" the burnt lizard asks looking around and noticing a couple of the lizards in the room are nursing burns.

"Rite's new flying thing hit the chimney," boss explains, "A chunk fell down and tossed fire all over the room."

You look at your brother with concern. "You alright?"

He nods and swallows a bit of food. "They made me stand back out of the way. I wasn't close to it."

"It's a good thing we aren't very flammable," Rolo says, picking out more food for herself. She turns to you. "We'll get some dried stuff for you guys to take with you. What path are you taking?"

"We have a log. We push it in the water," bro tells her.

"Hm. Not very fast but I suppose you're less likely to attracts something in the water's attention," she nods.

"Do you know which way mom went? Or if she was going to come back this way?" you ask.

"I know she was going to deal with the flow. They're still a long way north of here. I would think she'd be hurrying back though so she'd use one of the more direct paths."

"Is this one of those?"

"Not really, if you planned to walk the last bit of the trip it'd be pretty fast but swimming is faster for her."

You ask her for directions to the path mom is most likely to use on her return trip, and Rolo spends a while explaining the lay of the land. The path mom would probably use is further west but doesn't really have a direct water route to it. You'd have to walk a fair distance. That route does meet up with this one further north if you follow the same path but that doesn't save any time compared to walking for a normal lizard.

You thank the boss and his friend for the their help, and after a quick refill of your supplies rembark on your watery journey. In the early morning light the world seems to stand still and quiet. As quiet and still as swamps get anyway. You still catch sight of the occasional movement as things move in and out of the water. And the noise is constant.

At one point you pass under the large bird you saw the previous night, snoozing in a tree and dead to the world. That's a bullet dodged. After a few quite hours of swimming you trade off with your brother and take time basking while he pushes the log. All in all pretty quiet

Just as you're getting bored a lenghy snake drops out of a tree hanging over the water onto your log. It hisses and you get the impression it has more dangerous ideas in its head than the giant rats had.

"Spin the log," you yell at your brother. You see him shift his weight to try and turn it in time with your throwing yourself in one direction, then for some reason he tries to crank the log in the wrong direction. Instead of the log flipping it just jerks beneath you and you find yourself in the water.

You bob back to the surface and catch sight of the snake leaping toward you. You get your claws get between you and the snake but it seems to accelerate mid-leap to collide with you. Faster than you can follow you feel the snakes coils wrap around your arms. You flop around in the water and struggle. You spot your brother climbing up on the log to look at you while he digs out his spear. Your really hope he doesn't stick you with that.

You feel something bump into your bag. Maybe your brother tried to stab you to freedom. Or... stab the snake to freedom? Okay, if you could just get a second to catch your breath you'd hammer out a proper analogy. Speaking of...

You dip your head and try to bite at the snake only for it to wrap around your face and neck and squeeze. You are suddenly acutely aware of how much air is in your lungs, and the amount does not add up to as much as you'd like. YOu thrash the back off of your body to try and free yourself but only manage to get your tail above water, which is about a tail's depth deeper than you want to be. This is going poorly.

You struggle like a mad lizard trying to find an angle to scratch the snake to no effect. Apparently the snake is an old hand at this game. You are about to formulate a new plan like, pretend you know how magic works, or something when you feel the snake writhe and faintly taste blood in the water. You kick hard and rotate your tail to force you into a spin and the snake loses its grip on you. You're free! You resurface and grab a breath of air. It looks like your brother finally pulled something off with that spear you made him. Thank the great godlizard.

You clamber back onto the log with a hand from your brother and turn back to look for your opponent. You spot it as a hazy line in the water with a stream of red pointing to it. It appears to be thrashing around trying to fight its way free of something. Several somethings. Several small white somethings that... Then you can't see the snake anymore as pale colored something cover its body and the water starts to bubble and froth from around the snake below.

That was rather closer than you like. And you have no desire to find out what just happened to the snake.

>Gonna call it here. Be very glad you got out of the water when you did.
