Bombs are tricky sorts of things. There's a number of advantages that dealing with one inside a Barrier gives you, of course, but at the same time, they're still quite dangerous. First of all, you don't have to worry about someone remote detonating the bomb – radio-waves don't pass through a Barrier any more than time does. Or something like that. There is also the fact that you have all your powers over wind and water to assist you in dealing with the bomb. Submerging it could be problematic though, so it's something you could do after seeing what electronics are involved. Most importantly your body has a number of advantages in this form that you don't have in your natural one – longer tail, tougher claws/fingers, and denser skin. Not too much of which will stop the bomb from killing you if it goes off, you suppose, but every little advantage counts for something.

A C4-based bomb has to have a detonator. Only the intense head AND a sudden shock from a smaller explosion can cause it to explode. Fire doesn't cause it to explode, but Kiku-chan is helping Yuuhi-chan, who has a severe phobia to explosive devices. According to info provided by Yui-chan, there is a remote radio-controlled detonator for this one, because she was blocking the radio signal that should have blown your house up. There are batteries in the box, along with bamboo and an aluminum box that is inside the cardboard delivery box that has fake religious seals on it. There isn't a mercury switch, because if there was the little boy they hired to deliver the bomb would have set it off. So unless it has a secondary detonator that goes off if you try and dismantle it, it shouldn't go off at all.

Which is where the problem lies.

Currently you have a Barrier set up in the living room, with your family and the actual floor, ceiling and walls excluded so that any damage done spiritually to the building won't carry over to the wards in time. Your family has been told in no uncertain terms that they are to stay the fuck out. And you have one extra advantage in that you can see the destruction potential of the bomb with your ruby-colored right eye. Which means if you can get the bomb open, you can disable any and all detonators with relative ease.

With your cousin's lovers safely submerged in one Barrier, and the sorcerers who had been working for 'monsignor' Julian of clan Kaga in another, you also have some people to get answers out of, answers you're really quite interested in having. Except, of course, you have to do something about this bomb first.

Too bad you need to resist using the power of Ame-no-Horobi-no-Mikado. An honest to kami lightning bolt would probably be perfect to detonate the bomb with.

[] Dismantle the metal box first.
[] Try using some of the other Eyes upon the box – you might have some facility with them in a Barrier.
[] Move the box over to the far side of the barrier and break it open using wind and water, just detonate it.
[] Use a hyper-concentrated steam of water or air to cut an opening into the box.
[] Submerge the insides of the box; it will kill electrical impulses, but the weak charge from the batteries might set off a secondary detonator if there is one before they die.

since we pull our water from the darkest depths of the ocean, can we do the reverse, and port the bomb there?

completely submerging it will make it useless, it's just a question of how deep it needs to be. The shrapnel becomes a non-issue after it's moved through about 3 meters of still water. Bullets, which are shaped specifically to be good at moving through things, get their shit kicked in by water.

[X] Experiments and breaking shit. Stuff you're good at.

Getting into the headset of someone like Akari is a little hard. You are better equipped for it than anyone else in that you carry aspects of your family's elements within you, and your mental acuity is stronger than any other elemental type. Add to that a lifelong association with Akari, and you can get closer to being in her head than anyone has any right to be. And knowing that, you try to open ~her~ Eyes.

To your surprise, you manage something like Stone Eyes. You can somewhat see through the marble counter, and the walls of the house you've requested to be stonework. You only get vague shadows, nothing clear, but that little bit is more than you're supposed to be able to manage.

Unfortunately, it doesn't help at all with the box, as Akari said, because the damn thing is covered in WOOD PULP. Which isn't that big an issue – you go to slice some away and stop yourself there too....because under that is metal. No hope at all, really. But it does work, faintly, which is good to know.

Fire Eyes won't help here; the box has no soul, no kami, no spirit. It's a box. The pieces of it are too recently assembled to give it even the faintest nature of a kami, so seeing it's spiritual essence is impossible. But Void eyes might be worthwhile. Yui and Er Yin are both users of the Void, and both see things in a peculiar way. Seeing things ~differently~. You can do that. That's part of your nature, to be able to think in ways that aren't the norm, aren't even natural. So you close your Stone Eyes and concentrate hard, blocking out the things you know you should see, the reality that you would expect to see when you open your eyes.

No grey world. No coffee table. No chairs. No floor, no walls, no paintings or curtains. Nothing except a box, sitting on nothing, doing nothing, but being a box. No seals, no cardboard. No concept what what is in the box. Just a box and that's all.
>>

So we could theoretically put the bomb in a small barrier, generate water into it up until the pressure is enough to countain the explosion several time, and then detonate it ?

You open your eyes onto a glowing, flowing wash of intense colors and light and shapes. You blink slowly, trying to make sense out of what you are seeing, and it does make sense after a few minutes. You're looking at the actual flow of Feng Shui in your living room, disrupted by the box and your placement within the room. You can't really make out much more than sluggishly flowing rivers of light and color, unfortunately, and it completely obscures the box.

Closing your Void Eyes, you concentrate on Kiki-hime. You don't know her as well as you'd like, but what you do know, you know VERY well. Probably better than she might like you to. Her pain, her compassion, her hope, her resilience. Her ability to see the way through to people's hearts and minds. The hope that drives her to love a person she pretended to hate. The wishful thoughts of a princess brought up sheltered and tormented and promised to a husband she doesn't know. Dutiful daughter, yearning to grow free.

To grow, and take other paths. Other branches. You want to see where they lead her, and as you open your eyes....you see things in an entirely different way. Opening the box this way leads to an explosion. Opening the box this way doesn't. This movement will end here, and this one there. Not binary choices – branching choices leading to results in the future. You can only choose one of the paths, but you'll know the results of each one – and it's an unchangeable pathway. One you CANNOT retreat form, unfortunately.

Holy shit, you have a combination of Wood Eyes and Water Eyes!

[X] Open this side of the box with your claws, revealing the back of the electronics and circuit-boards, which will not give you access to the detonators.

You're not entirely certain that high pressure wind and water won't set off the C4, but you can tell that the side is safe to open. The disadvantage of not being able to access the detonators is that you can't cut the wires to them directly. You have to rely on your electronics skills and these new Eyes to guide you through safely disarming the bomb. You'll also get access to the cellphone device or radio device that they were trying to track you through, and you're fairly certain Yui or Akari can do something useful with that.

If you didn't need information this badly the other methods would be safer.

You did seriously consider going through the top, you muse as you slice the side of the box slowly open with the razor sharp sapphire claws of your left hand, but the danger of an explosion – because a detonator is still explosive, even if it doesn't set off the C4 – compared to what you can learn from this was not an acceptable risk.

You could still try for the top if this doesn't work....you think.

You lightly catch the side of the metal box and the cardboard box, and carefully put them aside. What you see looks a little like a layer cake in some aspects: cylinders of wood, capped with paper at each end and filled with something black and sticky, laid on top of something that the panel of circuit-boards obscures, on top of a nice thick layer of C4. You can see the radio device that is supposed to set off the bomb, a closed off system unto itself, with wires leading to the back of the boards, along with a few transistors, a memory chip, a resistor set, and what appears to be a secondary timer device – the one that would have started if you'd removed the sides and top of the box and left the bottom only intact.

You can't tell if taking off the top would set any of this off at this point, but you do see wires leading to the top corners of the box and into the bomb itself. It doesn't mean anything to you at this moment, through these strange new Water Eyes, but you have more important things to deal with. You're also seriously wondering what's in the bamboo. Certainly nothing good.

[] Disconnect the radio device and the timer device, leaving only the potentially booby trapped detonator to deal with as you remove the C4 or the bamboo.
[] Remove the bamboo and as many blocks of C4 as you can access, minimizing the danger and reducing the bomb to a glorified flash-bang.
[] Use Water to disable all electronics now that you can isolate the batteries and render the bomb inert, except for the possible trick detonator.

[X] Remove the bamboo and as many blocks of C4 as you can access, minimizing the danger and reducing the bomb to a glorified flash-bang.

Removing the bamboo is relatively easy, not only because it's not attached to anything, but because you can use both hands for removal and your tail to move them far away from you so you don't have to concern yourself with them any further. While the wires to the top of the metal box are wound between the tubes, they aren't wrapped around them, making the process relatively easy. You work steadily, unconcerned about speed, since time is only passing inside the Barrier for you, and your Water dragonette nature allows you to be more deft and sure fingered than any mortal explosives tech. The second layer is harder to remove, because of the circuit-board being in the way of the ends, and you make sure you don't risk tearing the paper end-caps as well.

Once all ten of the bamboo cylinders are out, you begin the much more labor intensive and cautious removal of the C4 itself. The biggest problem with that is/are the detonators. You don't have your Destruction-Seeing-Right-Eyes, but you nevertheless can tell using these Eyes that it is one specific block tied into the main detonator. It doesn't take much more than that to figure out there is only one detonator, attached to three mechanisms: the radio, the timer, and a small section of the circuit-board that is also attached to the wires leading up to the corners of the box.
>>
>>39069732
Sneaky, if you'd used high pressure water on those, regardless of how carefully you didn't let it get into the box proper, chances are really good that you would have connected two of the wires with water by accident and set off the detonator. Very wickedly planned, and not the sort of plan that lends itself to ignorance of your capabilities. By cutting the C4 itself using a long, thin knife, you reduce the bomb to a single square inch of C4 and the detonator, with the rest of the C4 sufficiently far away that even if the bomb goes off, the shock and heat wouldn't be enough to do more than sent fragments of the circuit-board and wires at you. It could still hurt you at very close range, but it can't kill you.

[] Set the bomb off on the opposite side of the room, collecting no evidence but avoiding any unforeseen consequence.
[] Shut your Eyes.

Killing electronics is one of your favorite pastimes. Your clan-mates absolutely hated you learning how to do so – as well as any other Water dragonette – because it played havoc with television and cellphones and all the fun gadgets people use in their off time.

Carefully avoiding the four wires and the batteries themselves, you short out the electronic systems of the bomb and the radio, leaving the whole thing an inert hunk of junk. With a small explosive device, yes, but that's been rendered harmless without anything to activate it. If there had been anything else to do so you would have felt it while washing out the rest of the system.

Closing your new found eyes leaves you with a ringing headache, and as exhausted as if you'd dealt with two tiers of Barrier Combat – leaving you 3/5ths of your Shen to work with. That was an unexpected price, but then again, you were doing something that you'd believed was impossible for Water dragonettes to do: using Water eyes on an inanimate object. It might come in useful later, but it's definitely not something to be done lightly. It will probably take less energy with practice as well, but with your head ringing as badly as it is, you're not sure when you'll take time to practice it.

You're sure Yui-niji-chan and Akari-niji-chan can do enough with the radio even after you've shorted it; Void generates Water after all, and Akari is great with electronics.

Dismantling the bomb is a simple set by step process, and you take apart the entirely of it, leaving the circuit-board mostly intact, after separating the timer and radio as well. Having Washed it out with your power means the trio of tracking devices – one of each of those three objects, fancy that – won't work anymore either. You can't put the detonator into ~nowhere~, it would simply go off. The same applies to the largely inert C4. On the other hand, you'll be interrogating sorcerers and a Void dragonette, and you probably don't want to leave that lying around where they can use it against you.

[] Push it out of the Barrier and trust Akari's know how.
[] Hide it inside the barrier – there's still plenty of furniture and who would expect it?
[] Leave it in a corner, use it for intimidation purposes.
[] ….you know, shaped charges are great fun for interrogations.

[X] Push it out of the Barrier and trust Akari's know how.
[X] Find out what the hell is up with that bamboo.

You take the leftover C4 and the detonator and push it from the Barrier with the help of Matagama-no-Shitoki. Akari-niji-chan knows what to do with explosives; like you it was an area of training she didn't enjoy, but you both learned. You could never understand the fascination it held for anyone outside of oni-children, really. But maybe you're a little more concerned with thinking than most people.

The bamboo is thick, sturdy, the kind used to make water features. Its splinters would have absolutely torn up Akari-niji-chan. Protecting yourself with a little water and wind, you carefully open up one of the tubes, revealing some heavy packet of black material. Not rubber, nor plastic. Some kind of micro-weave material. You carefully slice one open, trusting in your immunity to normal diseases and your powers over Water and Wind to protect you. What oozes out is a thick gelatin....that immediately makes your eyes water and completely eradicates any sense of smell you might have.

It's some kind of alcohol-based solvent. Not explosive, no, but the packets would have spattered everywhere....ah. It's water based, and carries alcohol. Probably absorbed right through the skin, and carried on bamboo shards, it would have stung anyone it hit....but it would have killed someone who was very vulnerable to alcohol poisoning. Say, a diminutive dragonette of Fire that you might be acquainted with.

They were seriously trying to kill everyone except Kiki-hime.

Diluting the single gelatin packet into nothingness, you store the bamboo and the packets they containment in ~Nowhere~, as you decide who you're going to deal with first....and what you really need to know.

[] Sorcerers first – you were planning on just the one.
[] Multiple sorcerers – they're at an extreme disadvantage.
[] The Void dragonette – you have bad news for her.
[] The Wood oni-child – he's going to be easiest to work on.
[] All at once....because you're going to put on a fuckin' scary show this time.

I voted sorcerers though, for what it's worth.

[X] All at once....because you're going to put on a fuckin' scary show this time.

You look around your house, and take a deep breath. Well, you're planning on moving anyways, and Matagama-no-Shitoki helped you make sure the wards would be safe from whatever you did inside this barrier....but you know what? Everything else can go right now. A surge of tsunami force waves and a category five hurricane turns the furnishings in the room to splinters and fragments. You wrap this immense destructive force into an oblong sphere, a toroid centered in the room. For kicks, you throw in a massive dose of the black smoker vent waters and turn layer floor in a thick, fog of cold that is reminiscent of the abyssal cold.

So, what they can see of your house is nothing. What they ~will~ see is you, dressed in official Clan Ryo war gear, floating in midair inside the globe of burning black and freezing blue waters whipped about at hurricane force speeds, with freezing fog obscuring the floor. Armed with a mukade infested wakizashi and an awakened kami that makes you immune to magic, looking like a nearly alien dragonette.

….and you're nearly up to 4/5th shen, which is a quick recovery even for you. But then, it was just using the new Eyes techniques, so it makes sense that you'd recover somewhat faster. So you're actually ready to go toe-to-toe with them in Barrier Combat is you have to.

Yeah, that should be fairly worrisome.

You release the Void Oni and Wood oni-child first; they're still sealed. Then you release the quartet of sorcerers. They're all unconscious, and they're wounded, but the wounds are bandaged and safe. Hmmm....manacles, rope....or just fear?

[] Chain them up, make them feel like this is the Judgment of Yomi.
[] Ropes for the humans, it's useless on oni-children and dragonettes.
[] Nothing. Let them understand they simply are helpless at this moment.
[] Pillars of Water and Wind for each of them, like personalized cages.
[] ….oh, oh, oh, that blood-filled cadaver you were saving for a practical joke! It would make a great demonstration piece! Yeah!

[X] Pillars of Water and Wind for each of them, like personalized cages.
[X] ….oh, that blood-filled cadaver you were saving for a practical joke! It would make a great demonstration piece! Yeah!

You use the winds to isolate and support each of the prisoners in midair, the winds whipping their hair and very quickly starting to waken the sorcerers. Inverted spirals of water added gives the impression of visible 'bars, warning them where the edges of their entrapment lie. You fly over and use your left hand to tear away the seals on the two spirit-children, the flash of light and their subsequent turning to ash leaving the prisoners unconscious but waking. To heighten the dramatic tension, you let them twist and turn in the pillars as you grab your party-favor from ~Nowhere~.

“Well, Dead-san, it's been nice working with you,” you whisper politely to the cadaver. When the Void dragonette wakens and her Wood oni-child companion recovers his senses – and you note that he's healed from his neck-fracture just fine, he's moving very well, albeit still trapped – you spin all six of them to face you as you lash your tail angrily, holding the bloodied, dead body in it's ninja costume near the floor, blood oozing from mouth and ears. You glance at your confused, injured, and 'helpless' prisoners.

“Oh, you're awake. Good.”

You then casually throw the body off to the side, the limbs flopping and clearly the person being dead. But the instant it hits the whirling spheroid of force five hurricane winds and tsunami powered abyssal cold and black smoker hot water, the body fuckin' DISINTIGRATES. It is turned into a smear of red and white foam in less than a second and swallowed by the midnight blue and steaming black waters almost instantly after.

All eyes are on you, and there isn't a single one of them that isn't trembling in fear – even the members of your own clan are horrified at what you've done.

“Now that I have your attention: I have some questions.”

If you'd managed to actually trigger the bomb, it would have killed you if you were right next to it. The detonator trap would have severely injured you in the same position.

With buffers of wind and water, chances are good it would have left you with a concussion and bloodied ears, and minor injuries, even if you had triggered it across the room, if the C4 had still been intact. The detonator would have been a non-issue in the same situation.

If it had gone off unhindered could have taken out the apartment and the ones next door and above you entirely, and everyone would have been gravely injured even with the stone walls and bodies, because it was designed to take out those people with weaknesses. Yui would have been fine, but Kiki-hime would have been badly injured and captured.

It was a very deadly device.
