Welcome to Banished Quest!
You take the role of a young mage labeled a criminal by his people and cast out into the wider world. In the last thread you terrorized a group of students, cut off your own arm, and summarily grew a new one.

It is currently the 7th of Svarthi, in the year 936 NH.

You hold your severed arm aloft, waving it over your head. “Anybody need a hand? I've got a spare. No, but seriously. Who want's a souvenir?” You're met with horrified stares and silence, but you're not one to be discouraged. “Come on! How many of you can honestly say that possess a man's severed limb? You could hang it above your hearth! It would make for a great conversational piece!”

Despite your encouragement, nobody seems particularly interested in your severed arm. Still, you don't want to have to lug this thing around all day and you don't want Ricky to know how tasty your flesh is. You're left with only one recourse. You cross the room to stand in front of the strange combination of desk and chair which the Elven girl who sat in the very front of the classroom.

She refuses to make eye contact as you set you severed limb down on her desk, winking before you turn your attention to Demetrios. “I'll be in the library, find me there once you've finished with these-” You gesture vaguely towards the class as a whole. “-incompetents and we'll discuss this little endeavor of ours.”

Demetrios rubs his eyes wearily, but you notice he's smiling despite himself. “Yes, yes. Of course. Now, if you would be so kind may I return to teaching my students?”

You take that as your cue to leave and make for the exit. Throwing the door wide and stepping out into the hallway beyond you're greeted by a small crowd which has gathered outside. Most of its members are staring you with a mix of curiosity and horror. You're not sure what the big deal is. Haven't they ever seen a blood-soaked foreigner stumble out of a room which was filled with screaming only moments before?

They don't quite seem to know what to make of you, since the room behind you seems otherwise undamaged and none of the students were harmed. Their momentary confusion offers you an opportunity to shoulder your way through the crowd. An opportunity you take. After all, the last thing you need is these savages getting violent, then you might actually need to kill a few of them. That would just be more effort than it's worth.

You manage to reach the stairs unaccosted. From there it's a short walk down to the first floor and through the halls to the library just on the other side of the entry hall. You find that at this hour it's fairly crowded, students huddling around tables and amidst cushions to commune in hushed tones with one another about whatever it is students talk about. You neither know nor care, to be perfectly honest. Fortunately the section of scrolls, tomes, and tablets reserved exclusively for full fledged Vatis is practically deserted, and you're quick to seclude yourself within. The librarian gives you no trouble.

You're in the mood for something new. Something exotic. Something to expand your literary horizons. Wandering the shelves you ran your fingers along the spines of innumerable ancient tomes, looking for something which struck your fancy. They're organized by language written in and subject, but whatever section you managed to wander into hadn't been organized in some time indeed. You find a cookbook written in a language you'd never seen before, and a book written in phonetic Samjan using the Rhynian alphabet which seemed to relate to just where it was the mind resided within the body. The author suggested the stomach.

It was there that you discovered a strange tome, obviously ancient beyond belief. It stood out for its texture. The leather was old and cracked, clearly ancient beyond belief. Some parts had flaked away to reveal the binding beneath. Yet despite this it was as fine as the leather on any newly bound book you'd ever held. Soft and supple as the skin of a calf. There was no title and the once elaborately decorated cover had chipped and flaked away over the years. The gold filigree remained, but the paints of various shades had long since faded.

Gently pulling back the front cover you found that the parchment was similar in many ways to the cover. It was the finest parchment you'd ever seen, a pale brown in coloration rather than the usual off white. It was devoid of the hair follicles, scarring, veins, blemishes, or tears one might expect to find on a piece of ancient parchment. It had remained flexible despite being squashed within the binding for who knows how many centuries. Truly, a marvel.

(1/2)
>>
The text itself was in a dialect of Ancient Samjan that you only barely recognized. You could read it, but it was difficult. The grammar was odd, and it had a few cases that modern Samjan lacked. Plus, some of the spelling was off and some words didn't mean what their modern equivalents do. Despite these difficulties you manage to make out that it seems to relate to what it calls the “Shaping Arts”. You're not quite sure what to make of it from your brief glimpse at its contents.

Tucking the strange tome under one arm you continued your search, this time in a better maintained section of the reserved section. There you discovered a slender codex written in Rhynian, a brief history of the Rhynian Empire starting with the Voibardian Conquest.

You brought both books to an isolated table set next to one of the library's towering windows and now find yourself in the terrible predicament of trying to decide between the two. On the one hand, the strange tome has incited your curiosity. On the other, if the Voibardians truly are the ancestors of the raiders which now plague the coast it might do you well to learn more about them.

You push the history of Rhynia to the side, pulling the strange book towards you and gently easing open the cover. It takes you an inordinate amount of time to scan through each page, translating the ancient text as you go. Slowly a picture begins to develop of just what these “Shaping Arts” really are. It seems as though, at some point in the distant past, there was a sect of magic users who secluded themselves in the mountains which run across northern Pidjata. You wouldn't really call them Vatis, as their magical tradition is quite clearly separate from the one you're familiar with.

Shaping magic did not have any concept of elements, or effects, or metamagics. It was very primitive in a way. It was primarily an internal magic, rather than an external one. That is to say it seems to have usually affected the self, rather than the world. Most of these first few pages are dedicated to discussing the “Shaping of the Mind”. According to this book, manipulating one's own mind was the first step towards mastering the Shaping Arts.

To you, it sounds like metal magic. The book discuses ignoring pain, blocking outside influences, and giving the caster a greater ability to focus. Well, the book doesn't quite term it that way. If you were to take the text directly, it would translate to something like 'allowing the caster to better force himself into the world around him'. However, you're sure it's just a matter of the language being clumsy or you failing to grasp some grammatical concept. It essentially means allowing one to better focus on task at hand, you think. However, it also discusses the mind as if it were a weapon. It mentions the ability to project one's mind into the body of another, subsuming their own mind and adding their knowledge to your own. You're not really sure what to make of it, if you're being honest. No such talent ought to be possible according to what you know of magic.
(1/2)
>>
Frankly you feel like you're missing context. As if this book wasn't really intended for those unversed in the shaping arts, as it terms them. It uses jargon you're unfamiliar with seemingly at every turn. Words you've never seen before nor heard of, that are completely unlike other words you know. There are annotations on every page written in what you think might be some sort of shorthand, you can't read the writing. Absentmindedly you wonder whether or not you might manage to retrieve a book intended for beginners from some lost enclave in the mountains.

You're just getting into a section entitled 'Shaping the Flesh' when someone slaps you lightly on the back. You jump, but it's merely Demetrios. He greets you amicably. “Mikhael! There you are. You still haven't washed yourself off?”
>Strange Book: (3/17 Chapters Read)

You glance down at your clothes, finding that the blood which soaked them has long since dried and they cling to your skin uncomfortably. You use a touch of water magic to wash them out, evaporating the red-tinged remnants of the water you used to do so. “It slipped my mind, I started reading and the rest of the world sort of just seemed to melt away.” You glance towards the towering window adjacent the table, finding that the sun has set while you were reading. “Anyway, ready to get some dinner?”
>The date has changed, it is currently the 8th of Svarthi in the year 936NH

Demetrios nods. “Sure, sure. I've got a place in mind. It's near the south wall, a small cafe. Popular, from what I've heard. I've been meaning to try their food for quite some time. Shall we go?”

>Sure, that sounds fine.
>You were actually thinking of eating somewhere a little nicer...
>Who needs food? You should get drinks instead.

>'allowing the caster to better force himself into the world around him'
I think this could be a good focus for a meditation. We should meditate on this and on possible methods we could use to further 'ourselves into the world around us'. It would probably reveal a good meditation (for metal) method to us.

Maybe something like focusing to make the existence and sanity of ourselves stronger for animals, plants and the whole world around us. Basically to make Mik resistant to outside influence.

I'm pretty sure Mik has crossed over from 7 to 8 on the insanity 0-10 scale.

You find that at this hour it's fairly crowded, students huddling around tables and amidst cushions to commune in hushed tones with one another about whatever it is students talk about. You neither know nor care, to be perfectly honest.

These comments infer we have left the 7 and entered the 8.

High five.

You shrug your shoulders. “Sounds fine to me, you're the one who lives here after all. I'll trust your judgment.” You extract a length of cloth from your robe, folding it in on itself until you're left with a narrow strip. You set that in the crease of the pages and carefully shut the book, tucking it under your arm before rising to your feet. “I need to stop at the front desk and check this book out, real quick.”

Demetrios nods and the two of you make your way out of the stacks upon stacks of dusty old tomes. The two of you stop at the front desk, Demetrios vouching for you when you tell the Librarian that you're an accredited Master Vatis at the Academy of Anthus and you'll be damned if you're going to pay just to borrow a book. Considering your earlier performance and the fact you wandered into the library soaked in blood, the librarian decides not to argue. Your return date is the 9th of Svarthi at noon, roughly a day and a half from now.

Passing through the academy's main doors, which have been repaired since the events of this morning, you notice two Fire Vatis, or at least two apprentices, showing off with an elaborate display of dancing lights and twirling flames. Some voice in the back of your mind urges to douse them and water, and without really thinking about it you do so. A sheet of water manifest itself above the boy's heads only to fall to Earth a moment later, not only extinguishing their little light show but also soaking their robes. The two boys, enraged, start to look for the culprit. They don't think to question the foreigner wandering the grounds with one of the faculty.

You pass through the main gates, the guards saluting as Demetrios and yourself pass them by. At this time of night the city streets are crowded with pedestrians and carriages alike, men and women either returning to their homes and headed out on the town for a night of revelry. You can hear music drifting through the air, its origin the tightly packed confluence of streets simply dubbed the 'Entertainment District'. You find it vaguely amusing that it's located so close to the university.

Demetrios leads you past the entertainment district and into what seems to be more of a commercial area. Shops line the road on either side, some of their doors locked and lights extinguished but most still open. Tailors, cordwainers, restaurants, smithies, and all manner of other shops competed for the attention of the wealthy residence of the Upper District. Demetrios stopped in front of a small cafe. The interior of the establishment would barely fit more than a handful of people, but there was an expansive outdoor seating area covered by a heavy silk awning and surrounded by a bronze fence shaped into vaguely floral, or perhaps vine-like patterns.

Demetrios led you inside the cramped interior, a bell ringing quietly as you enter. The owner, a portly human man with a thick, impeccably groomed mustache appeared in a doorway leading to what you assume is the kitchen, a smudged apron thrown over his torso. He greets you amicably in Rhynian, his voice heavily accented though you can't figure out what his accent is. It's not like Bastien's accent, so he's not Aleamondian. You know that much.

(2/3)
>>
>>39097082
So insanity also makes Mik an annoying troll I suppose
>>
Demetrios orders some sort of special coffee with milk in it. You're not sure why he'd want to dilute his coffee. You just opt for boiled coffee, a style of coffee which is brewed in a small copper pot with sugar. It's served in a small glass cup with the coffee ground still in it. It's incredibly bitter, but there's nothing better if you're trying to wake yourself up or stay attentive. Demetrios also orders some sort of Elven dish, you're not really sure what to expect there.

The two of you take a seat at a metallic table in the covered seating area just outside the shop. It's fairly crowded, but not terribly so. As you make yourself comfortable, Demetrios reaches into his robes and withdraws a folded piece of paper sealed with wax. He slides the paper across the table to you. “There you are, that's your half of the profits so far from Siege. Three thousand, eight hundred, thirty five silver. Not bad, if I do say so myself. As I think I mentioned previously, our revenue stream is slowing but we're still doing quite well for ourselves.”

You break the wax seal and unfold the paper, finding a thin strip of paper within marked with some sort of coat of arms, you're not quite sure what the words say as they seem to be written in Elven. Regardless, it seems to be as Demetrios says. Three thousand eight hundred thirty five silver to be paid to the person of Mikhael Abdul-Hakim at his discretion from the account of Demetrios Zabat.

You tuck the note into your cloak, smiling broadly to your friend and associate. “A good first month, my friend. A fantastic first month. You have my thanks. My father ought to be sending a man to get in contact with you with his next shipment of cargo north. My family is in a bit of a predicament after we lost most of our fleet to a pirate attack, but we still have more than enough vessels to conduct trade. His participating ought to allow us to avoid annoyances like 'tariffs' and 'taxation'.”
(3/4)
>>
>>39097082
Did we take both books?
>>
It's then that your coffee arrives, along with two plates of some sort of stuffed pita dish. It's got meat, cheese, vegetables, and some sort of white sauce all wrapped within the bread. Demetrios had called them 'gyros'. Taking a bite, you find that you can't quite identify the meat. It taste mostly like lamb, but it lacks the sort of severity that lamb tends to carry with it, and there's a sweet aftertaste that seems to linger. Then again, that might be the sauce, or perhaps the caramelized onions. Regardless, you turn your thoughts to conversation.

More and more proof of increasing insanity. He doesn't even try to rebuff the voice, he acts on it instantly. Ignore these increasingly occurring signs at Mik's peril. The crazed rush into the library, scaremongering in the classroom, no attempt to rebuff the "voice from the back of his head".

Something as relatively innocent as putting out a fire isn't that big a problem.
>>39097295
The only reason the Pa'vala happened is because the entity had access to a million vys and a dead god. The entity itself is pretty weak.
>>39097378
Everything regarding the Pa'vala so far has pretty much said "if you go there and you will fucking die." So no I don't think he wants us to go there and I don't want to either even though I voted for it so hopeful we'll get to change our mind.
>>
>>39097522
The putting out of the fire itself is innocent "fun" normally. It's not the event, it's the way he does it automatically without a second thought. It's developing a pattern where he just goes with whatever the entity puts forward as an action option.

Getting Mik acclimated to the little, easy, innocent stuff will make other things come easier as well. It's a process of subversion similar to putting a frog in a pot of water and slowly raising the temperature to boiling. The frog never leaves as he slowly becomes acclimated to the rising temps until its too late.

You swallow your first bite of gyro and wash it down with a sip of coffee. You really find that the bitterness of the coffee compliments the sweetness of the gyro, it's quite a nice contrast. Pushing your food to the wayside for a moment, you address Demetrios. “Right, so. Ideas. I've been thinking over a Siege! expansion of some sort for a while now. I think it should be an entirely new book, in fact it pretty much has to be. We'll call it something like... oh, I don't know the 'Arena Master's Guide'.”

You pause to take another bite, covering your mouth to make it at least slightly less rude to speak with your mouth full. “Anyway, this expansion will have rules for things like Fire and Water armies that aren't entirely solid. I think we should say that pure fire soldiers should need to have some sort of fuel to feed off of, and this can be either magic or the bodies of the opposing army. We should also probably cook up some rules for a nature-based army, which shouldn't be all that hard.”

“Oh, and I think we should really be pushing premade figurines. Maybe hand out some free books and free armies as a promotional thing to get the word out to the common folk that this isn't just a game for nobles and Vatis. Obviously, since we're about to be exporting the game overseas, we should step up production. Bring on more Vatis and scribes if you have to. Water Vatis ought to be a little faster at copying books than your standard scribes, even if they're more expensive. We should be able to afford it.”

(1/2 or 3)
>>
>>39098103
Not really, they're not in season in most places that have widespread internet this time of the year. It's next month when frogfoods kick off.
>>
“I've also been thinking that we should create some sort of wider setting for the games to take place in. Like, faction politics and such. I've been thinking that we should have have a cartographer draw up a map of this fantasy world, and demarcate the borders of a kingdom for ice creatures, to which tribes of water creatures are subservient. Then there should be a kingdom for earth creatures to which metal creatures are subservient. Fire should be some sort of loose confederation of city-states, I think. Then I'm not quite sure what to do for Nature. Maybe a society of wandering nomads?”

You spend the next hour enjoying your meal and hashing out the details of this theoretical fictional setting with Demetrios. You concoct names for each of the nations and discuss themes for each faction's aesthetic. You decide that the Nature faction should be sort of based on tribes of nomadic Elves which generally engage in banditry and occasionally stop to sell their goods outside cities. The Earth faction will be based loosely on Samjan with the Metal faction being their golem servants. Meanwhile the Fire faction will be human while the Water faction will be based on stories of the ancient Voibardians.

After you've more or less fleshed out the setting, or fleshed it out enough for now at least, and you've both finished your meals you sit and chat for a while. You order a second coffee, while Deme elects to order a mug of hot spiced wine. You discuss your father, and the terms of the agreement you reached with him. You're very careful to illustrate just what a conniving bastard your father is, perhaps even more so than you. Hopefully Demetrios will have the good sense not to attempt to negotiate with the man and just stick with the terms you laid out.

(2/3)
>>
Eventually you exhaust that topic and your conversation turns to small talk, which mostly comes in the form of Demetrios bitching about his students. You suppose it's good to let him vent, so you don't interrupt. Whoever this “Rochelle” girl is sounds like a real bitch, you can sympathize. However as the night wears on you start to wonder if the two of you ought to take your leave, or perhaps find a new venue to waste time in.

nah mik attributed it to his sanity.

You slap a hand against the surface of the metal table, rattling the empty coffee cups. “Lets go to a bar, get a drink. It's been weeks since I was in an actual bar.”

Demetrios raises an eyebrow, but ultimately shrugs. “I don't see why not. I only hope that I don't meet any of my students. I have an image to keep up, you understand. A certain air of superiority. If one of my pupils found me bent over in an alley spilling my guts I'd be a laughing stock.”

You wave a hand dismissively. “Please, just practice some modicum of self control. I'm not exactly what you might call a light drinker but the last time I got drunk enough to puke must have been... more than a decade ago, at least. I can't even really say.”

Demetrios offers to pay the bill on the condition that you buy the first round of drinks. Considering that the bill comes out to nearly thirty silver and two drinks will rarely cost more than six silver you happily agree. Emerging onto the city streets, the two of you navigate towards the entertainment district with its plethora of theaters, street performers, drinking holes, and whore houses. It isn't long before the two of you find yourselves navigating a tight press of bodies, jets of flame dancing through the air as Vatis perform elaborate routines to attract attention to whatever establishment hired them. Some spell out names in the sky, others make burning arrows point towards the doors to whatever venue they work for. It's really a rather dazzling spectacle.

Demetrios tugs on your arm, pointing to one building in particular. It's made to look as if it's constructed of old and rotted wood, the front covered in barnacles with a ship's prow protruding from above the doorway. A sign hanging from the prow reads 'The Lusty Mermaid'. You nod, and the two of you make your way carefully through the crowd to the entrance.

(1/3)
>>
Stepping inside you find that despite it's deceptively rotten exterior, the interior is actually quite nice. The floor is a mosaic map of the world with Anthus at the very center. Unfortunately much of it is covered either by hide rugs or the feet of patrons. You can't make out most of it. The bar is a stone construction with a wooden counter top, polished to a fine sheen. Nets hang from the barnacle-covered pillars which support the vaulted ceiling, mermaids with their breast proudly displayed ornamenting the top of each column. Various weapons hang on the walls, and at the back you even spot the heads of a few beast. It all comes across as vaguely rustic, and quite cozy really.

Pushing through the press of bodies Demetrios and yourself press against the bar, waiving down one of the Elven men serving as bartender. “What can I get you two?” He ask, raising his voice above the din of conversation and music.

Demetrios raises a hand. “I'll have a glass of absinthites oinos-” You have absolutely no idea what on Earth that is. “-preferably heated.” His order placed, Demetrios points to you.

You peer at the innumerable bottles which line the wall behind the bar. You don't recognize many of them. Obviously there's plenty of wine, and you're relatively certain they're making a pot of spiced wine in the hearth right now. However, you're in the mood for something a little more adventurous. Ultimately, you slide across four silver coins and decide to just trust Demetrios' taste. “I'll have what he's having.”

>>39099530
>more than a decade ago, at least.
Mik it happened two weeks ago ya shit.
>>
Demetrios jerks his head towards the band playing in one corner of the establishment, on a small raised platform. There the crowd of fellow patrons is thickest, a sort of impromptu dance floor seemingly formed just in front of the stage. You don't recognize the instruments, but the music isn't all that bad. Rather than normal drums which you're familiar with there is a man hitting sitting behind a sort of drum array, with drums of many different sizes surrounding him. He's using fur-capped sticks to strike their surface rather than his hands.

Your drinks arrive shortly. It's served in simple wooden cups, the liquor a strange off-white color. You take a sip, and find it strangely bitter sweet. Definitely more bitter than sweet, and damn if it doesn't burn going down. It's strong, you can say that much with confidence.

>Drink yourself into a stupor and go with the flow.
>See if you can't find a partner for a dance.
>Play wingman for Demetrios.
>Just sit around, chat, and try not to get too drunk.

I also like that that she try to express her feeling more, and have an innocent side.

sure darzy have a more classic personality, but you just know that she is the kind of girl who would endlessly nag at every occasion. plus she want to settle down eventually. and want to stay friend.

I never understood were all the darzyfag came from anyway.

....what?
>>
>>39100584
That is way easier than what I did. But I think the way I did it, while worse in this scenario, can be better in some situations because it avoids having to carry over from the next highest digit, like if the tens and ones were 14 and you wanted to subtract 91, you could instead add 9, and use the higher number in your subtraction, rather than doing 114 - 91. It essentially means you're adding 100 to the number you're subtracting rather than subtracting from an extra 100 in the first number.

So if you wanted to do
200014 - 2091, instead of doing
200014 - 2000 = 198014
198014 - 91 = 198927

I would do
200014 - 2091
200014 - 2100
198914 + 9 = 198927

Which I don't think is worse, and is maybe a little better in this specific scenario. In the scenario I initially mention it was totally worse, but I imagine this isn't the only way they teach kids to subtract, just one option.

>Jews believe that every person is equal before God
That's hilariously wrong. Rabbinic Jewish text state clearly that Goyim are subhuman and exist only to be enslaved by the Jewish master race. People in the middle ages hated Jews because they were weird foreigners who spoke a different language usually, loaned out money at interest (a sin, according to Christian doctrine at the time), and because they actively tried to force non-Jews out of their communities. Not saying they deserved to be slaughtered en masse, but the distaste for Jews didn't just spring out of nowhere.

Okay, hiding my powerlevel and getting back to writing.
>>
>>39100916
No, if I wanted to do 200014 - 2091 I would do it like:
200014 - 2077 [Difference of 14 taken from 2091]
Then 197937 -14, which equals 197923.
Because 200014 - 2077 = 197923. [Not 198927]

Using the difference between numbers is a very basic subtraction method that works on all whole real numbers large and small that you want to calculate. It's not going up, or going down, it's identifying the differences and parsing it into ever simpler subtractions.
>>
>>39100960

Using differences is also the easiest way to multiply, divide, and add large numbers as well. Though there are better examples available via google than I can provide.

Also all of this stuff is similar since the basic mathematics are best treated as parts of a language rather than obtuse procedures, there are ways to make it flow naturally and lots of easy ways to make the basics much harder than they need to be.

200000 - 2077, [Difference of 14 taken away]

You swirl your drink in your glass, eyeing it suspiciously before taking another swig. You find yourself shaking your head involuntarily as the liquor slides down your throat, a line of fire through your chest. Gods above, what's in this swill? To distract yourself from the drink you slap Demetrios on the shoulder. “Alright, let's get you laid. When was the last time you got any?”

Demetrios very nearly choked on his drink, holding up his hands in mock surrender. “Mikhael, please! I'm twice the age of most of these women. It would hardly seem appropr-”

You cut him off. “Demetrios I come from a society where it's perfectly legal if not necessarily socially acceptable for a five hundred year old man to marry a sixteen year old girl. You're going to have to do a little better than double their age.”

Demetrios sighs wearily, muttering something about immortality under his breath before turning his attention once more to you. “And just how do you plan to get me laid, exactly? I wouldn't call myself the most charismatic individual.”

You grab him by the arm and turn him around to face the bar as a whole, throwing one arm around his shoulders. “Listen to me, Demetrios. You're a Grandmaster Vatis. Not only that, you're a human. You're practically some sort of mythical creature. Use that to your advantage! Show off, draw attention to yourself! Honestly, it's not hard. I'll even help you out.”

Demetrios eyes you suspiciously while taking a sip from his cup. “That's all well and good but you still haven't told me how you intend on going about this. What, am I just supposed to start spewing fire from my hands and dancing around like some kind of trained idiot?”

Visions of a bar aflame flash briefly through your mind before you shake your head. “No no, definitely don't do that. Never do that. I learned that lesson the hard way. We could host a Siege! match during which I let you win. Alternatively, we could opt for a more traditional approach...” You trail off, surveying the room for any particularly attractive humans or elves. To you, they mostly just looked like short, pale, and chubby but surely there was one or two among their kind that wasn't unappealing.

You point out a Elven woman chatting with two human women across the room from Demetrios and yourself. She was taller than most, and athletic. Her skin was disgustingly pale, you felt like she'd be see through if you shined a strong light on her, but you suppose that could be forgiven. “We could approach her and her two friends, I'll distract the friends, you chat up the elf. I mean, I know she's not all that attractive-”

Demetrios interrupts. “Wait wait, hold on a second. Are you seriously calling that girl unattractive? She's gorgeous! I'd have no chance with her.”

You look at him as if he were crazy. “Look, far be it from me to criticize your taste in women but you seriously need to raise your standards if you think that woman is attractive. She looks like some sort of subterranean monster who's never seen the sun and besides all that she's an elf, so you know she's probably already a mother of three.” Sometimes you wonder over whether or not you'll ever understand humans, or your Master for that matter, or Suresh, come to think of it.

Demetrios can't help but grin at your comment, but he still seems hesitant. “I don't know, Mikhael. I don't have any experience with this sort of thing...”

You pull your arm off his shoulders, clapping him on the back and adopting a serious tone. “Listen to me, Demetrios. You're going to go over there and talk to that ugly Elven girl and you're going to like it.” He opens his mouth to protest, but you interrupt. “Before that, you're going to get very drunk. Now start drinking before I'm forced to assume that you're some sort of Gods-cursed sodomite.”

Apparently his reluctance to sleep with an 'attractive' Elven woman is less than his tolerance for your nagging, because he kicks back his glass of that strange liquor and turns to slam it against the bar, attracting the attention of not only the bartender but a variety of onlookers as well. Demetrios triumphantly declares “Another round of drinks for the house, on me!”

“That's the spirit, Demetrios! Act like a cocky asshole, or if you'd prefer, act like me!” You quickly finish off your own drink, squirming uncomfortably and trying not to gag. Gods, how do people drink this? Screw it, you're switching to spiced wine. You're comfortable with wine, you're familiar, you know what you're getting. Whatever that drink was called, it was terrible.

A third, fourth, and fifth round are shared between the two of you before you finally feel like Demetrios is ready to put the moves on that Elven gal. He's managing to hold himself up straight and his speech isn't too terribly slurred, though he said something about seeing the shadows twisting in on themselves earlier. You're not sure what the deal with that is.

Tapping him on the shoulder, you gesture to where the elf woman is still chatting with one of her friends. She'd wandered off to the dance floor earlier, but returned by herself. One of her friends returned, but the other seems to have vanished. “You know what you should do, Deme? You should create little figurines of stone and have them carry a drink to her. I'll bet you money she'll find it cute and it'll be a great way to break the ice.”

(1/3)
>>
>>39103026
I just looked it up and apparently it's only a local thing, it's basically a gyro with a lamb instead of beef and a sweeter sauce. They're very good.
>>
He doesn't take long to consider your idea, instead he simply goes for it. He nearly forgets to order a drink first. You slide eight silver across the bar to the bartender and get four cups of spiced wine for you, Demetrios, and the two women. You suppose you'll have to suffer through making conversation with her human friend, but it'll be worth it if you can help a friend you suppose.

Setting the drinks down on top of the little figurine's heads, Demetrios carefully guides them across the crowded bar to the table where the girls have secluded themselves. As they reach the girls, the little stone figures reach up with their stubby little arms and grasp the wooden cups housing the spiced wine. Before your very eyes tiles from the floor begin to tear away and bind themselves together, expanding the figurines' arms until they're long enough to reach the top of the table.

The girls are, as expected, surprised. The elf picks up one of the figures with obvious curiosity even as the tiles are tearing themselves away from its arms and returning to the floor. The two of you choose that moment to strike. You make for the human girl, while he focuses on the elf.
(2/3)
>>
>>39103282
err, I mean beef instead of lamb
>>
Actually, come to think of it, you don't hate the look of the human friend. You hadn't really paid her much mind. Sure she's laughably short and her hair is piss yellow, but she has a bit of a sun kissed look to her and a toned body. You could see the appeal, at least. She swirls the wine in its cup, eyeing you suspiciously as you approach. You lean against the table in front of her, forcibly drawing her attention away from Demetrios and her friend. You're about to say something, But Demetrios beats you to it.

“You know, your face is just divine. I feel like with you the dark forces lurking in the shadows won't drag me away to rot with Choros in the underworld. Sometimes I think I hear them speaking to me, whispering thoughts into my mind at night. Truly vile creatures.”

You are incredibly glad you decided not to drink more than one glass of that horrid alcohol Demetrios has been drinking.
