Minor Milestone Edition

Your name is Kazuya Narukami, and you are the best friend of a standard harem MC. A month ago, your party of thirteen defeated the Dark Lord Azazel and restored peace to the world.
Your ordinary lives have resumed, so your objective is now twofold. That is, resolving your bro's harem and supporting him to the very end!

Last time we…
>Picked ourselves back up.
>Slapped our bro back into shape.
>Met our brouzouf-loving, gun toting Big Burly Hacker Tank Man.
>Ran around Megiddo City looking for Hatoko.
>Found Hatoko had a chat with her about bro and relationships.
>Saw the two of them confess to each other.
>Watched them kiss.

Two days have passed since your bro and Hatoko confessed to each other on the bank of Megiddo City’s north river. Things had been awesome, and you had gone home exhilarated and excited. Why wouldn’t you be? One of the five girls had had her issues resolved, and it had been your sweet childhood friend.

“We’re here.”

The goddess of fate must’ve been in a bad mood back then, because life just seemed to be taking a great big dump on you today.

“Sit down.”

Well, as they say, life comes in ups and downs. Not that this train of thought is providing you with any comfort, as you face down the danger in front of you. Gray Soul is screaming rabid obscenities in the back of your mind. It’s trying to display a show of bravado, but you can tell that even it is beginning to be afraid.

This is the current situation. It is past the halfway point of the lunch break. You are seated in the cafeteria, despite having already consumed a meal of chicken and rice twenty minutes ago. Normally, you being in the room would cause most of the student body to stare at you, like bird-watchers tracking a particularly shy hummingbird. Maybe some students would come up and ask for autographs, or even a signed photo. However, today is different. Everyone, including the teachers, is doing their hardest not to look at you or your table. They are averting their eyes, not daring to give you the slightest of glances, for fear they would be riddled with holes immediately afterwards.

“Well?” A voice growls.

Four of the most vicious and powerful girls are gathered around your table. Three of them are your classmates. One of them, by all rights, shouldn’t even be in this academy. They are seated in a circle, trapping you against a wall. Drinks, such as ice tea and hot coffee are placed in front. Weapons, guns, sabers and knives, lay on the table top, glinting innocently in from the fluorescent lights above. The Time Mistress, the most skilled IS pilot, the Koshimizu Heiress and the resident stalker girl had grabbed you in a metaphorical vicegrip, and they were staring poisoned daggers into your face.

“Well, what?” You say.

“Please don’t play dumb, Kazuya Narukami.” Ayase says, twirling her freshly created blade, her hollow eyes flashing dangerously like thunderstorms in a pitch black night. “You know what we’re talking about.”

“No, I don’t.” You state bluntly.
>>
Laura appears to contemplate this, then turns to Kurumi. “Shall we proceed with the second stage of the interrogation? The tools are prepared and ready.”

“Ara, so hasty Laura-chan.” Kurumi smiles. “No, I don’t think that will be necessary…yet.”

“Hey assholes, I’m still here!” You snarl, “You mind tellin’ me what you four are up to?”

Kurumi and Sachiko glance at each other. They move to speak.

“Perhaps he truly doesn’t know?” Sachiko mutters.

“This poses a problem.” Kurumi replies.

“Let’s just ask him then.” Sachiko says. They both turn to you.

“What we are attempting to say…” Kurumi begins, playing with her hands.

“Is that whether Tatsuya…is whether my plaything…” Sachiko actually looks flustered, and she’s stammering her words out. It appears that the great Koshimizu charisma is starting to crack a bit. “is g-g-going out with—”

“Tatsuya and Hatoko are dating. Is this statement true or not?” Laura shouts, standing up and slamming her palms on the table. The drinks wobble, and the rest of the cafeteria shivers in fright.

>“No, of course they aren’t.”
>“Why would you think that?”
>“Man, you guys are getting real nervous.”
>“What do you think, Captain Bodewig?”
>Custom option.

>Wow you black bag me because you're all going full crazy over bro again? Really? Ok ok let me catch my breath. Here's what happened Hatoko tried talking to bro and I let them have some space hoping maybe the stalemate would break. Bro put his foot inn his mouth and Hatoko, flipped out cause she had been reading too much $chan and the poor girl took it to heart. Bro and I talked her down. Guys I expected this from Ayase, she obviously reads too much Yaoi fanfiction and think's I'm gay for bro, but the rest of you? Really?

“Man, you guys are getting real nervous.” You say, chuckling and leaning back in their seats. Their emotional states are probably nothing compared to the turmoil rolling around in your own heart. Gray Soul, the embodiment of your insanity and ruthlessness, is cowering in fear—a rare occurrence. Did the four girls find out about two days ago? You hadn’t sensed any other presences during the confession. STREUM had made sure to erase all video and audio footage of the scene from the camera network. You had ordered him to so the moment you got back home. So how was it possible for these four psychotic friends of yours to know?

“I didn’t think all of you would gang up on me like this…” You mutter.

“Drastic times call for drastic measures.” Sachiko says, ominously. “Even for a girl as cute as I.”

“If one of our rivals has gained a severe advantage, it is our duty to band together and strike back.” Laura continues.

“Okay, so tell me then. Why do you think Hatoko and bro are dating?” You say. You are genuinely curious about this. Not about the dating part, of course. You knew full well why that was happening. Back on the riverbank, your two childhood friends had made out for quite some time. High on adrenaline and hormones, perhaps.

“Why? You ask why, Kazuya?” Ayase giggles, her voice dropping to an all-time low. Her bloodlust bursts out of her form and splashes onto the walls and floors. Several students froth at the mouth and faint. You swear you can hear the screams of everyone Ayase has killed echoing throughout the room. The scent of death is unmistakable. “Yesterday, I was heading to the city center to buy food for Onii-san’s cooking.”
>>
>>39182908
Not part of the full solution, but chances are high that it might come to that.
>>

Wait, yesterday? Not two days beforehand? What had bro being doing back then?

“On the way there, I saw Onii-san disguised, hanging around a nearby shopping mall.” Ayase’s fingers clench, and a bayonet is unconsciously formed in her hands. She slams it down onto the table, digging into the plastic surface. Veins are bulging in her head “Then Hatoko came along, and begun talking to him. I didn’t think much of it as first, but I decided to follow them anyway. Then after a while they moved off, and they…they…”

Ayase’s voice reaches a harrowing screech. “They had been holding hands!”

“Ayase is right.” Kurumi says, interrupting Ayase before more innocent civilians were scarred for life. Though, considering just how many souls Kurumi had devoured as fuel for her time magic, she wasn’t any better. She looks displeased, as if she had just missed out on a rare and tasty piece of candy. “In addition, Hatoko took Tatsuya-kun to a café, and she fed him cake! Kazuya, please explain what is going on.”

…so that was it. Yesterday, after school, your bro had mentioned that he would be busy in the city center for a while. This is how the conservation had went down:

“Kazuya, I’m going to be busy after school.” Your bro had said. “Go on home without me.”

“Busy? Is something up, bro?” You had said, halfway through chugging a bottle of water. “Wait, don’t tell me it’s more officials from the government again…” Those ubiquitous bastards had been hounding your bro ever since he had emerged victorious from the final battle. It was understandable, given the name of Tatsuya Aragaki was now basically equivalent to ‘all-loving, superpowerful, world-saving hero’, but by god did it get annoying at times.

“Nah, nothing that serious. Besides, I can handle those guys.” Your bro had said. “I’ve gotta go to the main part of the city today.”

“What, more shopping?” You had queried. “You going to get more lobster at the market, bro?”

“Nah Kazuya, it’s nothing like that.” Your bro said. Nothing had seemed out of ordinary at the time. Your bro had been wearing a casual expression, his lips in a friendly smile and one hand on his hip.

“Okay then!” You had replied, giving him a friendly pat on the shoulder and laughing heartily. “Good luck with whatever it is you’re doing. Don’t forget to disguise yourself on the way there.”

You didn’t think he would be this daring to go on a date with Hatoko, one a day after their confession though…

They touch us, they lose their lives. And I don't mean "they die", no. They simply annihilate their relationship with bro and the way they interact with society.

Sadly, there is one who's crazy enough to not care about both.

Though, we could use this experience to determine who is the bes... I mean, the less shitty. For the moment, I'd say Sachiko is the one who is the least in the deep end
>>
>>39183424
true, Sachiko maybe moving up in the best girl ranking. from second worst to middle of the road
>>
>>39183424
To be fair, I suspect all of them are still thinking in "stupid harem anime" mode, and have not realized that the second season of their love affair with Tatsuya is being directed by someone completely different.
>>
>>39183205
I think this is the best response.

I mean, threatening us under pain of death/torture (death+torture?) is probably the most short sighted, least effective thing they could do. Understandable, certainly and hopefully they'll be sane enough to realize that.
>>
>>39183424
That doesn't mean that it's impossible for them to hurt us. They just have to do it in a way that bro won't know about
>>
>>39183012
>“Bro holds hands with you guys all the time. Why should this be any different?”

"And all five of you do your level best to feed him no matter the circumstance, I think he's just gotten used to it.

If I had to hazard a guess on why he was with Hatoko, he probably just wanted to talk to her about something. She's pretty levelheaded and gives good advice, after all."
>>
>>39183496
Uh no because we would tell bro
>>
“Bro holds hands with you guys all the time. Why should this be any different?” You weren’t lying. Back when your bro had been as oblivious as one of Laura’s other friends from that women-only academy, he had the tendency to hold each of his harem members’ hands at random times. Major fights had broken out between the five girls back then, fights involving atrocious amounts of bullets and magic that you and Souji had worked around the clock to resolve. At least the girls had the tendency to calm down nearing the end, when Azazel’s forces had ramped up and begun their biggest invasion of Earth yet.

They still tried to feed bro their cooking down downtime, though.

“Hmm, you’re right about that.” Sachiko admits, rubbing her chin. “Even so, if my dear plaything wanted to hold someone’s hands, why didn’t he come to me first?”

“I could’ve taught Tatsuya-kun a thing about hand-holding or two…” Kurumi murmurs, her fingers gently brushing against her lips.

“You people are indecent.” Laura sniffs. “To think about holding your spouse’s hand this early in an engagement…”

“Heh. Heh heh heh…” Ayase laughs.

You groan and resist the urge to slam your palm against your face. Bro, what kind of mess has he gotten yourself into? This was such a goddamned waste of time. “May I go now?” You growl. “I’ve got things to do, things that don’t involve being assaulted by four of my female friends.”
>>
“Very well then.” Laura says, after thinking for a while. So you get up and leave the cafeteria as fast as your legs can take you. Behind you, you can see each of the four girls scheming individually. Laura is calling someone on her phone, Kurumi is reading a book and Sachiko has her tablet out. You don’t know what they are planning, and you don’t want to guess. The eyes of the cafeteria staff track you as you leave the room. No doubt more rumors would start popping up after today.

You sigh.

You loved the members of your nakama like your brothers and sister, but dear god they could be psychotic at times. It didn’t help that all thirteen members were killers, and some enjoyed the pastime far more than others. Maybe you should talk to bro about this, get the party doctor to take a closer look at them. Then again, he was one of the more sadistic members…

You stumble back into the hallway, and lean on the wall to catch your breath. That had been terrifying, and you were thankful the encounter could now fade into the back of your mind as a bad memory. So, what will you do now?

So something I was thinking of, earlier: Like the rest of the characters in this quest, the girls in the harem are all from existing series. Specifically, they're all from various harem anime, which kind of implies that Bro is their silver medal for not being able to get their canon love interest. The exception is Sachiko. She's from Idolmaster, which while the games kind of have an element of that (sort of), the anime doesn't. Why does she buck the pattern?

You need answers. Answers about why your two childhood friends went on a little outing last afternoon, in broad daylight where everyone could see them. Granted, from the way your party’s assassin had ominously described the situation, the two of them had been disguised. So at least no civilians or fans had caught wind of them. Yet, Kurumi, Laura and Sachiko and Ayase were far more dangerous than any number of ordinary people.

Admittedly, Sachiko despised killing others and preferred to use non-lethal methods to get rid of her foes. Having said that, death is not always the worst fate in existence, as many of Sachiko’s vicitms could attest to. Kurumi and Laura were brutal, being Azazel’s ex-lieutenant and a genetically modified supersoldier respectively, but manageable. It was Ayase you would have to be careful about. The path she had walked was one strewn with corpses and the despair of the dying, masked by a façade of innocence. Why had she gotten only fifth most terrifying in the poll? You disagreed. She should be first. She was known amongst demon-kind as the infamous ‘Childe of Death’, and the mere mention of her name could send hardened devil warriors fleeing for the hills, pissing themselves.

Bro doesn’t seem to be in the classroom, possibly out to get more drinks from the vending machine. Hatoko is seated at her desk, surrounded by a crowd of eager girls. She looks flustered at having to answer questions, but strangely happy at the same time. You walk over and tap her on the shoulder.

“Hatoko, we need to talk.” You say.

“Oh?” She looks up from her desk. The girls all stare at you. “Is something wrong, Kazuya-kun?”

“Sorta. Look, just come outside for a while, okay?” You say.

The two of you exit to a more deserted part of the school. You quickly sever your head to check that no-one is watching, and turn back to Hatoko. She’s staring at you, blinking innocently. What do you say?

"Apparently you were out and about the other day. Our friends told me about it."

I dunno, we need to tell/warn her in a way that DOES NOT tip off Ayase if she happens to be watching. Because she probably is.

In that order. She (and the Grand Idiot) need to keep it a bit secret for now; she'll probably understand, and not need any sort of yelling at.

After that, though, it's just polite conversation, you know?

Fucking typos.

I'm surprised people consider Ophis to be as likeable as Hatoko, considering that she's only got one scene so far.

Writing...
>>
Seriously, though. Ayase, I think, is the biggest issue here. Hell, I think we need to move on Sachiko sooner than later. She has particular resources, last I checked. Would help us out.
>>
I forget, who's Ophis?
>>
>>39184753
The gothic lolita dragon lady who lives in Bro's soul.
>>
>>39184763
Ah, gotcha.
>>
>>39184714
Ophis doesn't come across as a crazy bitch.

The rest of the girls, especially Ayase, do.
>>
>>39184714
Ophis has that sexy lazy "Come over here and fuck me, or don't, I'm fine either way." vibe
>>
>>39184724
Indeed. I'm thinking our order from here on:

Sachiko: probably relatively agreeable, has a lot of resources to help us out if necessary.
Ayase: get the trouble child out of the way. Seriously Ayase: why must you be such a shit? And why do you make me think it's a good idea if there's at least two other girls in the know, so there's no "unfortunate accidents"?
Kurumi: No particular reason.
Laura: "Oh well. At least I'll still be his only husband."

>>39184803
I think a year of being head-fucked by Tatsuya's waffling is causing them to regress to harem stereotypes.
>>
>>39184822
Sounds logical enough. Sachiko, I think is juuuust 'predictable' enough to figure out a solid plan for when it comes to convincing her. I'm probably looking way too much into this, but I'm working out a possible approach now.
>>
>>39184443
>"Look Hatoko, Ayase saw the two of you yesterday. You can't be this careless.”
>>
>>39184822
and then we win by keeping Mushroom-chan, AKA best girl of best girls.
>>
>>39184822

We should have a grand ceremony for Laura, with bro in a white dress. And Kurumi seems to be into lewd stuff, so she'll probably accept it as long as she has her fill

Though, I think Ayase should go last. She'll never accept anything but an ultimatum
>>
>>39184822
Need all 4 of them to shove it down Ayase's throat. Also need them to stick in pairs till she accepts it.
>>
>>39185003
The problem with doing Ayase last is that she is in many ways the hardest member to plan around.

She's a combination of utterly bugfuck crazy, and impossibly sneaky which makes it nearly impossible to be assured that she hasn't noticed Bro with the other girls until someone wakes up with a knife in their trachea.

It's implied Azazel offed most of the rest of the IS pilots in this continuity. Doubt char is alive and whole.

You take a deep breath, and focus your senses. Gray Soul’s tendrils of madness rush out and scan the area. They are invisible to everyone except your magic. No-one is around, not even Ayase. The girl was too tenacious for her own good. To think that she would intentionally skip her own school to come here and prod you with questions, like a slave being branded with hot irons.

“Kazuya-kun?” Hatoko questions.

Okay, no more hesitating. “Hatoko. Listen carefully.” You say, “I was just interrogated by four of your rivals.”

“My rivals?” Hatoko gasps. “You mean…”

“Kurumi, Laura, Sachiko and Ayase all ganged up on me and forced me to the cafeteria. They asked me questions. They said you and bro had gone on a date.” You run a hand through your hair. “Look, I ain’t accusing you or bro of anything, let’s make that clear. But why did you guys go without telling me?”

Hatoko’s smile vanishes, and turns into a frown. She begins to fiddle with her fingers. “Kazuya-kun…I see. So they found out, huh?” she whispers.

“Yeah. Well, Ayase did, and she told the others.” You say. “Typical of her, really.”

“Ayase, huh?” Hatoko repeats. She shuffles.

“Please don’t blame Ta-kun for this.” She eventually says. “It was my idea. I ran into him in the city and asked him to go to the Crimson Café. It was selfish of me, I know, but I was so happy to go on a date with him.”

“You guys need to be more careful.” You say. “Ayase looked positively murderous today. Er, I don’t think she would kill you, but she might hurt you if pushed too much.”

Hatoko looks downcast. She is staring at the floor.

I wonder if it's relevant that Hatoko mentioned Kurumi explicitly when referring to the group as a whole.
>>
>>39185338

She's a yandere. She's probably nicer to him
>>
>>39185512
She's probably still afraid she's the boring, ordinary girl, and Kurumi is very not-boring.

Now, Ayase is even more not-boring, but in a "scared-for-your-life" way, not a "sexy and intriguing" way.
>>
>>39185512

She probably see Kurumi as more sexy and desireable than herself. Plus, there is the whole thing between Hatoko and the demons

If we're letting her do this, we need to step up the pace on getting the others in. Recall that just HOLDING HANDS got them all riled up, and it took an outside force to convince them that it was normal. Chances are they'll get too suspicious if the two slip up and are spotted again, and then things get horrible. At the very least, we need a method of keeping tabs on bro and the others more reliably, which is why I'm advocating so hard for Sachiko next.

When you said she should be careful, you didn’t think it would hurt Hatoko this much. You quickly pat her on the shoulder and give her a smile.

“Don’t worry Hatoko, you can go on dates with bro. Just be more careful next time, and watch out for Ayase.” You grin. “Look, how about this. I’ll have a chat with bro, ask him to calm Ayase down a bit, keep her busy at times. Then the two of you can enjoy yourselves without any problems.”

“Really?” Hatoko’s eyes light up. “You’d do that, Kazuya-kun?”

“Yeah, anything for my childhood friend.” You say. “Trust me.”

She glomps you. “Thank you so much!” she cries.

“Haha, it’s nothing. Uh, could you get off me before people get the wrong idea though?

The rest of the day passes quickly. Your bro comes into the classroom and the two of you have a little talk about the ‘date’. He seemed embarrassed about the whole deal, but apparently enjoyed it a whole bunch. This is how the conversation goes:

“What the hell was that about?” You say. “Why didn’t you tell me?”

“I didn’t know it would happen!” Your bro whispers from his seat. The two of you are trying to not disturb the rest of the class. “Hatoko and I ran into each other and before I knew it, I was eating vanilla cake with her at the Crimson Café. Nice cake, though.”
>>
Good grief, the date had the potential to spiral into a PR nightmare. At least your bro had asked STREUM to erase any audio and video traces from the Megiddo City camera network. Still, did he have to crash Twatter, Mumblr and Yuutube in his pursuit—all at the same time? No wonder you couldn’t get them to load this morning…

“Also, I kissed her afterwards.”

Dammit, bro.

Math and Magical Theory both flow away like water under the bridge. Soon, the sky turns orange and red again. The final bell of the day rings, and everyone rushes out. You yawn and stretch out your arms to relax. You’re not tired from studying all day, you’re tired from watching silly videos on the Internet all afternoon. Seems like the school curriculum has a ways to go before it can start challenging you.

So, what do you have planned after school?

As much as you like to wander around town, see what specials are being offered in the supermarket, maybe even pick up a few snacks because the supply in your room is fast running out, you have a job to do. As you recall, Souji had been kinda pissed at you and your bro for screwing up your initial attempt with Hatoko. You guessed the guy was just worried for the two of you. Souji had gone through a lot of heartbreak throughout his own dealings with his harem. It took a long time for his original group of friends to make up and become close to each other again. You supposed he didn’t want history to repeat itself.

Still, did he have to yell at you while in his Tail Red mode? It wasn’t because it was scary or anything, there was just something weird about being talked down by a cute, red-haired little girl.

A limousine is parked outside the school gates, a freakishly long one emblazoned with the Shindou family mark. Two men in suits stand beside it, both wearing stoic expressions and necks the size of an ordinary’s man’s leg. They are waiting for you. Your bro is already hanging around there, talking to the driver. You nod to yourself and rush forward to catch up.

“Kazuya, may I ask you something?”

You stop in your tracks. Someone is calling you, and you know that voice. You turn around.

Sachiko stands in front of you, her smile wide and a schoolbag in her hands. For all the world she appears to be an ordinary, rich high school student.

“What is it, Sachiko?” You say. “I’m kinda in a hurry today.”

“My family is conducting an investigation about something that happened in the local area. As the heir, I am helping them.”

You do not like the sound of this.

“Two days ago, there was an incident around the Arisato Park.” Sachiko says. “It is a park that my family happens to own. You wouldn’t have anything to do with it, didn’t you?”

Does she know?

You consider lying to Sachiko, and then mentally slap yourself for thinking of such a stupid idea. The spawn of the fallen angel had A-ranked charisma, and could make the wills of others bend to her command. One false word, one mistaken sentence loose from your mouth and Sachiko would grab hold of it. Then you would be spilling all of your secrets for her to hear, watching as the manic smile of hers grew wider and wider. And if that happened…

You’ve adventured with her, so you are naturally resistant to some of her charms. You can’t lie, but you don’t necessarily have to tell the truth either. So you steel your heart and open your mouth to speak.

“I was in the area with bro and Hatoko that day.” You say, keeping the tone of your voice as neutral as possible. “Is there something wrong?”

“Oh, nothing much.” Sachiko said. “However, I received a report about the damage done to the surrounding area in the park. It seemed very unusual. Not the work of hoodlums, not the work of any explosive device. In fact, it seems that the place was struck by extreme winds. Yet, the skies that day were clear, without a breeze in sight…the only explanation is that a magical user caused the damage.”

You say nothing, but your fist clenches. Your mouth tightens into a hard line.

“I do wonder what happened that day. Mysteriously, there are no video recordings of the incident, even in the official archives…” Sachiko continues, her smile rapidly growing dangerous.

“What are you trying to say, Sachiko?” You state, glaring at her. “If you’ve got something to throw at me, go ahead and do it.”

To your surprise, Sachiko shrugs. “I am merely voicing my concerns. Hypothetically, I am inclined to believe that Hatoko was responsible for the incident in Arisato Park. The destruction is unmistakable. Even so…”

She pauses for a moment, and then continues.

“Even if Hatoko was responsible for the damage, I wouldn’t blame her at all.”
>>
You blink. “Why do you say that?”

“I’m sure you, Tatsuya and Hatoko must’ve had a good reason for arguing that day. We all make mistakes, don’t we? It seems from the way you three acted that you’ve all made up with each other.” Sachiko smiles. “I’m glad for that. It would make my heart ache if I saw three of my closest friends hate one another.”

You cross your arms. “What, you’re not going to pry any further? That’s kinda uncharacteristic of you, Koshimizu.”

Sachiko closes her eyes, and this time her smile is tinged with a hint of regret. “I am not one of your childhood friends, Kazuya. Even if we are nakama and I am the cutest girl in the party, I must respect your boundaries. If you do not wish to involve me in your private affairs, then I will stay out of them. I am the heir of the Koshimizu family, and I have to maintain good relations with my peers.”

“Gee, Sachiko…” You say, a little caught off guard.

“Don’t worry about the repercussions. I will see that they are paid accordingly. See you tomorrow, Kazuya.” She says.

Wait.” You say. Sachiko stops and faces you. You grin at her. “Thanks, Sachiko.”

At first, she doesn’t know how to respond or react. Then her usual shit-eating grin blossoms on her face. This time, you catch a trace of compassion and warmth in it. “Well, of course! For a girl as cute and intelligent as I, covering the tracks of my friends is an easy task. Take care Kazuya, and tell Erina-chan our family will be beating her in the profits this quarter.”

You chuckle. “Yeah, see you tomorrow.” You wave and then head off for the limo parked outside the gates, your heart feeling a little lighter.

Sachiko was arrogant, liked teasing others and sometimes bit off more than she could chew. You were aware of this. Nevertheless, she was a true friend and you were more than welcome to have her in your nakama. You remember all the times she had used her influence and charisma to get your party out of difficult situations. She often boasted about it, but Sachiko cared more than she let on. Maybe the task of convincing her wouldn’t be as difficult as you first thought…

You and your bro enter the limo, and the monstrosity of the car starts up immediately. Through some strange power found in all unnaturally shaped automobiles everywhere, the car manages to twist and turn through the streets of Megiddo City, slipping past traffic jams and travelling at a rapid pace. You rush past houses, apartment blocks and shopping districts. Soon, the buildings cease to stretch to the sky and you arrive at the east residential area. You see trees, brick walls and residents walking on the numerous pavements.

The limo stops, and the door is opened for you.

“We’re here, sirs.” The Shindou chauffeur states.

You have arrived at the Shindou estate, a massive traditional Japanese styled home. You’ve been here a few times, mostly to hang out with Souji and his wife with the rest of your party. Yet, you get the feeling you haven’t seen half of it. The size of the place is comparable to Sachiko’s mansion, and just as fancy. The Koshimizu and the Shindou families truly were fierce rivals.

You enter the building, marvelling at how clean everything is, and the maids direct you and your bro to a large meeting room. The two of you get seated, have some tea and Souji shuffles some papers placed on the round table.

“Okay, the meeting of how to help our leader talk to women will now begin!” He states.

Something isn’t right though, and you feel the urge to make a query. You raise your hand.

“What is it, Kazuya?” Souji asks.

You point a man sitting next to Souji, the latter of which is coincidentally in his Tail Red form and therefore a little girl. Said man points to himself, as if to say, “Who, me?”

“Why is our sadistic and possible insane party doctor here?” You ask. “Does he know anything about picking up chicks?”

“Now, that is quite offensive, Kazuya-ya.” The man named Trafalgar Law grins. “You could make a girl cry with those words.”

So, Trafalgar Law.

His patients called him rudest and most skilled doctor on the planet. The demons had a wanted poster, naming him the Surgeon of Death. Courier Six referred to him as ‘Doc’. Everyone else just called him Law. He was the party’s resident field medic and surgeon, as well as being the eleventh member to join the party. Law had once been dead at some point, but a group of higher beings, seeing the sheer medical expertise Law was carrying, resurrected his soul and forced him into a lifetime of employment. Your party stumbled across the beings one day, and your bro challenged them to a game. Obviously, your bro won with flying colors and received Law’s contract as a reward. From that day, the man named Trafalgar Law became part of the party, whether he liked it or not.

You knew Law to be a cunning, laid-black and competitive man. These were the traits displayed for the world to see, along with his sarcasm and his tendency to make quips in perilous situations. However, Law possessed a much darker side, rivalling Ayase and Kurumi’s creepiness. His moniker was earned for nothing. Specifically, it was conjured by the demons after he ripped out three hundred of their hearts, still pulsing with the lives of their owners and sent them back to the commanding general…
>>
Guy was a damn fine doctor, though. You wouldn’t be around if it weren’t for him constantly patching up your wounds, along with the rest of the party's.

“Come on, don’t you trust me?”

“Okay, let’s pretend you do know how to talk to women.” You say. “And no, chatting with them while performing surgery doesn’t count.”

Law shrugs at this. No point in arguing, his body language appears to say.

“I’ve still got other issues.” You say.

NAME: Trafalgar Law
AGE: 26
ROLE: Surgeon/Field Medic

[STATS]
Strength: B
Endurance: A-
Agility: B+
Magic Potential: D (Devil Fruits don’t count as magic)
Luck: C
Noble Phantasm: C-

[ABILITIES]
Medical Expertise (A+): Law’s medical skills are unmatched. He can cure almost any disease, and patch up almost any wound. Still no solution for cancer, though…

Reconfiguration Room (A): Law can create a ‘room’ in which he can manipulate the positioning of anything within. He can take off parts of an object and reattach it to others, such as sticking the head of someone onto a barrel. People separated by this ability will not die. Law frequently uses this skill to take out organs from a patient’s body and work on them.

Swordsmanship (B): Law is a very skilled swordsman, able to properly defend himself without resorting to the powers of his Devil Fruit.

Swimming (E-): Law can’t swim and will lose all of his strength if he falls into any body of water. This is due to his Devil Fruit powers. Because of this, Myde is considered to be his worst enemy. Falling water such as rain or waterfalls are fine.

Divinity (D): As a reincarnated soul, Law possesses a very minor form of divinity. The effects are almost negligible, but he does have small amount of resistance to almighty magic.

[NOBLE PHANTASM]
Gamma Knife: Law uses his Devil Fruit powers to create a blade of pure energy, which he stabs his enemy with. This technique will destroy the internal organs without leaving external wounds. It cannot be blocked physically, and has a high energy cost. Law tends to use it as a method of last resort.

[FACTS]
-Tied with Laura for the 4th scariest member of the party.
-Law was resurrected by higher beings and forced to be employed in their service. Tatsuya received his contract after successfully beating the beings in a game.

You survey the room. The adults of the party are all present. Courier Six the thief, STREUM the hacker, Souji the gender-switching Aerial Combat Boy and Law the doctor. Hold on, that isn’t correct. There are four, but five is the number that should be here. You glance around the room, for a bit, before asking.

“Where’s Myde?” You ask.

“Ah, I received a text from him.” Your bro says, showing you his smartphone with a grin. “Turns out Myde is kinda busy at the moment. Guess we shouldn’t interrupt him, huh?”

“I’ll interpret that for you, boss.” Law leers. “Myde is being a lazy bastard today. He got drunk last night at the bar and is probably puking his guts out as we speak. Looks like the success from his newest song got to his head.”

You and your bro wince. “Sounds painful…” Your bro mutters.

A thought then strikes you. “Hold on, why is Courier Six here? The guys never speaks. How is he supposed to help us talk to Kurumi and the others?”

HOW RUDE. Courier Six scribbles. I’LL HAVE YOU KNOW I ONCE HAD A RELATIONSHIP WITH ONE OF MY COMPANIONS. IT ENDED BADLY FOR THE BOTH OF US, BUT IT STILL COUNTS. He’s drawn a frowny face expression on his tablet, too.

"That doesn't reassure me, Six."

Tired of all the bullshit that has been going on, or maybe wanting to speed things along so that he can get back to his studies, Souji slams his palms together. “Okay everyone, enough chit chat. We’ve got a job to do, and it’s time we stopped mucking around. STREUM, if you will…”

“Affirmative.” STREUM rasps in that gravelly voice of his. He presses a button a nearby remote, and the lights in the room dim. A projector slides down from the ceiling, and the contents of a computer desktop are displayed on it.

“What’s going on?” Your bro says.

“Remember how you told STREUM to erase all footage of you, Kazuya and Hatoko?” Souji says. “The truth is, he didn’t completely do finish the job.”

Your bro stares at Souji, and his eyes widen in horror. “You mean…”

“Yeah. Sorry leader, but this was for your own good. I had him make a single copy for this purpose only. It’ll be destroyed immediately afterwards.” Souji grits his teeth. “We are going to watch the talk you three had, and all of us adults are going to point every single mistake you guys have made.”

Your bro moans. “This is gonna suck…”

“Cheer up boss.” Law grins. “We’ve got snacks here.” He points to bottles of alcohol and a plate of freshly cut sandwiches. It doesn’t help in the slightest.

“Law.” You say carefully. “You’re not enjoying this, are you?”

“Nope, but I am having lots of fun with my drink.” Law replies, already sipping from a glass.

The movie runs. It starts from you, your bro and Hatoko sitting down on the park bench and ends with Hatoko going berserk and destroying the park with her tornado winds. Your failures and shortcomings are on display for every person in the room to see. Your bro’s words, and Hatoko’s cries ring through your ears, like the lingering spirits of a dying village. It is tough, watching you and your best friend commit mistake after mistake from the beginning to the end.

You do not avert your eyes. None of the other members are doing so. They are watching intently, some of them taking notes. You have to see this through. You owe it to Hatoko, Kurumi, and the rest of the girls. You need to learn the best way to convince them. You must.

Your bro seems to be handling it well. His face is a mask of grim determination, and the entire time he’s barely blinked. The movie must be hitting him harder than anyone in the room. Despite this, he is not cowering in fear or crying in remorse. No, he’s taking the opportunity to learn from his mistakes, so that he may become a better person in the future.

As expected of the world-saving hero, your leader and your best friend.

The movie ends. Law stretches his arms, and STREUM finishes typing on his laptop.

“So, what was the most important lesson you’ve learned from this?” Souji says, taking a ham and cheese sandwich from the nearby plate.

You think.

>You should’ve remained in contact with bro the entire time.

We should’ve practised more before going ahead.” You admit, “All the two of us did was talk about it for a little while before full speed ahead with our plans.”

Souji frowns. “That’s a good point, but it’s not what I’m getting at. Why didn’t you talk to Hatoko together?”

Damn, that’s a good point. You sweat a little. “Uh, I thought it would be best for bro to convince Hatoko herself? He loves her and all…”

“And look where that got us…” Your bro mutters.

“Ya, it didn’t go over so well.” Law speaks up. “Aren’t the two of you childhood friends? Kazuya, you should’ve been with her. You wouldn’t have needed to rush down the tree and try and reach her if you had.”

“I can understand the importance of privacy, given that Tatsuya is the one whom all the girls love.” Souji says. “But if you must separate, at least get an earpiece or something.”

“I can supply you with one, Brothers.” STREUM booms. “Give me a few days and I’ll have the finest communication systems ready.”

“And Tatsuya, you need to be more subtle! Why did you spring the concept of a harem right from the beginning? Soften Hatoko up a bit. Ask her about the concept of polygamy or something. Use a metaphor. Don’t fire an arrow straight into her heart from the start!” Souji rants, his high-pitched feminine voice bouncing off the walls.

“Yes…” Your bro has no comeback.

Souji snaps his fingers. “STREUM, get the scripts. We are going to rehearse. Kazuya and Tatsuya, get ready.”
>>
And so begun a slightly humiliating session with the adults of your party, in which you and your bro were asked to read sets of lines that would apparently help with you convincing the rest of the girls. You can’t shake the fact that this is the kind of stuff lonely virgins would practise before heading out to the nearest bar on a Friday night. Law taking pictures with his phone camera and contemplating putting them up on the Internet doesn’t help.

WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT? Courier Six writes angrily. PUT SOME MORE EMOTION INTO YOUR VOICE!

The irony doesn’t go unnoticed, except for Courier Six.

Ultimately, the session ends and it’s time for everyone to go home. The sky is getting dark, and you can hear the sounds of the nightly rush of Megiddo City faintly in the distance.

“Farewell, brothers.” STREUM rumbles, standing up and packing up his belongings.

LATER, EVERYONE. Courier Six scribbles.

“Boss, our counselling session is on this Saturday. Laura and Courier Six will there. Don’t forget.” Law says, hoisting his sword over his shoulder and heading for the exit. “Bye.”

You make a motion to leave, but then Souji taps you on your shoulders.

“Here Kazuya, take this.” He says.

Tickets are forced into your hand. There are four of them.

“Are these amusement park tickets?” You say.

“Yeah. Erina won them on an online contest.” Souji replies. “We don’t really need them, so we decided to give this to you. You have to use them before Saturday, or they’ll expire.”

“Don’t you guys want to go to an amusement park?” You ask.

“Nah. If we want to go, we’ll pay. We’re already rich enough as it is.” Souji says. He claps you on the shoulder. “Good work today, Kazuya. Keep your head up.”

As you step out into the cool night with your bro, you stare down at the tickets. The question is ringing through your head. Who are you going to invite? Kurumi? Ayase? Syoko? STREUM?

Hang on, isn’t there someone in the party who has never been an amusement park before…?

We've reached 10 threads already, and it's something of a milestone for me. Let's hope I can keep this up in the future. Writing HBQ gets more and more fun with every post.

I now have a sorta big request for everyone. Could you please post constructive criticism of Harem Bro Quest? Stuff you liked, stuff you didn't like. Are the characters good? Does the world need more fleshing out, or is it too convoluted already? Is my writing too hard to understand? Feedback like that would be greatly appreciated. Writing a quest is no good if I don't improve during the course of it.

I'm going to do stuff for twenty minutes, and then I can answer some questions.

If there's anything that threw me for a whirl when I started the quest it was how it tossed around the conventions of the typical harem anime. Overall it's been pleasant, however. If anything, Ayase's an anoying shit, but that works in the plot's favor. Bro's density in the first few threads was trying, too.

Characters have been written pretty solidly, but yeah, it'd be nice to see more of the city, get more of dat worldbuilding done. It's been a fun ride overall, TT, and it states the thirst for relationship hijinks.

Next thread will be tomorrow, forgot to mention. 9:30 pm UTC as usual.

I can now answer questions. Go for it!

Back in Thread 6, during the introduction of Courier Six, the "suddenly I've remembered the backstory!" part was pretty awkward.

>You suddenly remember this vital fact. The Fallout games are actually educational games, and are based by real-life events that happened in the American desert region.

It would have been better expressed as something Kazuya was already aware of, but which had not been relevant up to that point.

I don't really have anything to say that generalizes to more than one scene. That one part just stood out to me.

With Law being introduced have we met everybody now?
>>

Right, sorry for the slow response, 4chan was acting up and wouldn't let me post.

>Things I like
The way you've established the setting is actually pretty good, I think. You've given us enough that we can kind of guess at the rest, and using character profiles to introduce new information is a nice technique.

The non-harem members of the cast are great. Law, Myde, Souji, STREUM, and Syoko are excellent. I really enjoy the scenes featuring them. They're fun on a level that goes beyond just being references to other work, I really like them a lot.

Your writing style is also very good. Very evocative of emotion, which is important for what amounts to a dating sim. Additionally, you're not afraid to try unusual formats, like the $chan forum posts last thread. That was gold.

>Thing I don't like
The presentation of the harem is my only real complaint. I don't think they're inherently terrible, but too much of our interaction with them has been dealing with their fighting over Tatsuya. That means we pretty much see the worst of them. You need to have more scenes where we're interacting with them as friends rather than problems. The scene in this thread with Sachiko is a good example of what I mean. Showing her patience with her friends and understanding that they have a right to privacy made it easier to empathize with her. Our stated goal in this is to make all our friends happy, we need to see them as people who deserve happiness.

Other than that, my only problem is insufficient Syoko. We need at least one appearance by the adorable mushroom girl per thread. I will not budge on this.
>>
>>39191457
How much of a shut in is Syoko?

Would Kazuya rearrange his difficulty poll now that thing have changed?

How much does each girl suspect?

Can Hatoko into tracking and detection spells? or even aerial servant to follow Yuno Gasai's protégé?
>>
>>39191457
Any plans for threads with other viewpoint characters? I'd love to see an interlude where we play as Tatsuya and help Kazuya out with his own problems.
>>
>>39191299
Sorry, they will only be posted once an important plot point is passed. Otherwise, they wouldn't make sense. Please understand.

>>39191487
All the members of the party, yes. There are other non-party characters yet to make an appearance, such as the enigmatic Silver Queen.

>>39191457
Thanks for the criticism. I'll take it into account.

>>39191502
This is very helpful, especially the part about understanding the harem members. Thank you kind anon. But...

>Other than that, my only problem is insufficient Syoko. We need at least one appearance by the adorable mushroom girl per thread. I will not budge on this.

I can't make any promises.

>>39191503
A lot.
No.
Ayase suspects the most.
Hatoko is elemental magic only, I'm afraid.

>>39191539
I am planning something along the lines of this, but I feel it's too early in the story to attempt it. Hopefully it'll be fun once we get to it.
>>
>>39191633
Why did Ayase see us as a threat? Just being Yan yan or was she reading too much fanfiction on $chan?
>>
>>39191232
I think you're doing well for the most part. I do feel that Kazuya himself needs development or to say his own issues beyond the helping of Tatsuya's girl problems.
>>
>>39191633
Got to agree with >>39191696 would like to see more development of Kazuya.
>>
Just caught up.

Thanks for the thread! It was awesome.

Though, I'm wondering if OP based the girls' behaviors on the popularity poll
>>
Just Realized Syoko and Kazuya both have Madness enhancement and Syoko is the last party member to join.

Got a slight nitpick, I guess.

>“Yeah, anything for my childhood friend.” You say. “Trust me.”

This line's pretty awkward. Hard to imagine coming out of someone's mouth, like you put "childhood friend" in for the sake of saying "childhood friend" specifically. Came across as a bit stilted or forced. I was thinking you could drive the point across the same while having brotag sound a bit more natural.

Maybe something like, "Of course! We've been friends for ages, you can count on me!" perhaps. I figure Kazuya oughta be pretty casual with her, considering they're childhood friends and all.

Can't really say I've a problem with much other than that, other then that I wish I'd found this quest way sooner.

I'd better trawl through the archives, because I'm definitely boarding this ride.
>>
Wait, why the fuck wouldn't we like Law?

Law's a cool guy.

I am always concerned about the flow of my dialogue, and I constantly wonder about it when writing. This is useful. Thanks, freddie anon.

>>39192216
Have you see One Piece threads? /a/ hates him. Then again, this is /a/ we're talking about...

>>39192004
Nah, all of their personalities were predefined before the quest began.

>You and your bro wince. “Sounds painful…” Your bro mutters.
