You are Kusajishi Riku, a Shinigami currently under the tutelage of Captain Shihōin Yoruichi of the 13 Guard Divisions.

That thing pushing its way into the human world in front of you is a Menos Grande. It's a monstrous Hollow that would be enough to cause problems for a Lieutenant-level Shinigami: and there are none of those around right now to help you. Its spiritual pressure is greater than your own by a respectable amount, and you can only imagine the amount of raw power the damn thing can pack. And as if that wasn't enough, several more large Hollows have found their way into the world through the same hole. Not as large as the Menos, but still enough to slaughter any of the students they might encounter.

At your right side is a student of the Shinigami academy who you only know as “Kai”, carrying a polished turtle shell and a short spear as his Shikai. To your left is his partner, “Kaoru”, whose weapon has taken the form of a bladed tuning fork. Their level of skill is probably around your own, though their spiritual pressure isn't nearly a match for yours.

“We have to hold those things off,” you determine, though you also feel you're stating the obvious somewhat. “Give the students a chance to escape.”

Kai nods grimly, understanding that you may be asking him to sacrifice his own life. “Right. Kaoru, do it.”

Without taking her eyes off the enemy in front of her, Shiba Kaoru extends her left arm to her side. Two little quills thrown from her palm scribe an intricate pattern along her skin, before she projects a pair of inky black circles from her outstretched fingers. “Bakudō 77, Tentei Kūra!” she announces. A 70's level spell, from a student? That's pretty impressive... you're barely working on the 40's.

“Attention all students!” Kaoru orders. “Fall back to the Senkaimon immediately! Do not attempt to engage the Hollows on your own!”

“Didja get 'em all?” Kai asks quietly.

Shiba shakes her head, discomfort obvious in her plain features. “They may be out of range, or...”

Ah, you see now... she has great technical skill, but the Tentei Kūra's range is limited by her degree of spiritual power. She's probably not strong enough to convey her mental orders to all the Shinigami spread throughout the burned quarter of Osaka, meaning that your charges may not have all heard the message.

It also means that while Shiba Kaoru may have a lot of tricks up her sleeve, she may not be able to make full use of them when it comes time to fight that Menos. Looking at Kai it seems that he's got a melee-type Zanpakuto, and he probably has similar strengths and weaknesses to Kaoru: good skill, low overall power.

Damn. You know that Yoruichi hasn't been teaching you to stand on the sidelines at a time like this, but you'd still hoped your first “real” mission would be simpler than this.

>See if Kaoru can order the Onmitsukidō to escort any stragglers.

The safety of the students is the priority.
After that, wiping out or at least containing the little hollows will make it easier to deal with the big one. It's slow anyways and it telegraphs its main attack.

To the living world? I pretty sure we're already in a part of a city that's just been ravaged by wars. Hence the high number of souls and why trainees were sent to learn how to take them to Soul Society.

“Kaoru, was it?” you ask. “Can I add something?”

The student nods, gesturing at you to place your hand on her shoulder. When you do so, your orders are as simple as you can make them: you figure that's how Yoruichi does it, so her Onmitsukidō are probably conditioned to follow orders like that. It takes only a moment to choose your words.

“Onmitsu, let's try and have as many survivors as possible. Any Hollows get in the way? Kill 'em. That's all.”

“You think you two can handle the little ones?” you ask as the spell ends, the inky circles quickly disintegrating on the breeze. Kauru gives you a sarcastic grin.

“Those are 'little' now?”

Kai shrugs. “Don't worry 'bout it. You really think ya can take that big guy on your own?”

You dig in your feet, preparing to leap into combat as soon as you feel the Menos is in striking range of a lunge with your hirenkyaku. “But if we're gonna live, someone's got to try. So unless you wanna go...”

“Definitely not,” Kai laughs. “I like my chances better here, thanks.”

As the students begin making their way towards the gate back to the Soul Society, you see that the bigass Hollow is right at the edge of your range...

Between you and the Menos are two huge Hollows, easily several times your size. With a roar Kai engages the one on the left and Kaoru the one on the right, leaving you room between them to advance towards the bigger threat beyond them. As you pass you see that you were right about their skills: Kai uses the rounded surface of his shield, the tinbe, to deflect the massive force of what would otherwise be a fatal blow from his Hollow. With that opening he steps in and thrusts his short spear, or rochin, into his enemy's face before giving it a twist in the wound. The result is that the Hollow's mask neatly separates in two, and with a scream it dissipates into thin air.

You can't really get a good read on Kaoru's fighting technique: a quick strike on one side of her opponent's body causes a weird vibration that hurts your ears, and a quick reversal of her still-vibrating polearm sets up a sweeping slash that seems to part the Hollow's massive head like it's nothing more than a fish on a chopping board. There must be something more to it than that...

But for now, you're more concerned with the glowing red aura collecting in front of the mouth of the Menos' giant porcelain mask. That can't be good.

“No you don't!” you shout as you leap through the air, covering hundreds of feet in a single stride. “Bakudō 10, Hōrin!”

From your left hand erupts a ball of angry orange light, which extends in a writing spiked tendril towards its target. At the last second you quickly wrap the tendril as securely as you can manage around the comically-pointed nose and chin of the Menos' mask, securing it for now and preventing it from unleashing whatever attack that was.

Almost.
(1/2)
>>
>>39202143
Whenever you say something like "You're outclassed" or "very difficult", we crit, what gives?
>>
>>39202371
The blast was probably well beyond the point of being able to stop at just any time. Instead the Menos unleashes the attack anyway, straight into the back of its own teeth. It doesn't QUITE contain the full force, and a part of the blast catches your wrist even as you return to Kai and Kaoru with a hirenkyaku step. But it DOES manage to blow all of the massive Hollow's teeth out, consequently breaking your bakudō in the process.

You spare a glance at your left arm, which is burned and steaming from a little below your elbow on down to your fingertips.

“That could've gone better,” you mutter as the Menos lets out a strangled, wavering cry. It's so loud you think your ears might start bleeding.

“I thought you said you were gonna kill it, not piss it off!” Kaoru shouts angrily as she bisects another Hollow. Though she's got the energy to yell at you, she's panting from the exertion already.

Kai laughs as he narrowly avoids being crushed by another attack. “Oh, common, sis! She got it ta blast half its own damn face off, that shit's great and you know it!”

Your arm is in rough shape, but it could be worse. And you can probably still use it. But this giant Hollow... it feels like it's gotten stronger in its rage. Like a cornered animal that knows the alternatives are victory or death.

Yeah. You'll survive the attempt, and do some significant damage, but it's gonna be rough. Your enemy's raw power is kind of intense for a rookie like Riku, but so far you've managed to deal with it quite well.

“Can't stop now,” you grunt, flexing your burned fingers to test their grip before balling them into a fist. “I'm gonna shatter its mask. Can you hold out a little while longer?”

Kai grunts back at you as he severs a regular-sized Hollow's arm with the edge of his spear. “Sure, go get all the glory why dontcha!?”

Right, you suppose from him that's the closest you'll ever get to a straight answer. Guys like that never say what they mean. Kaoru is too busy blocking a blow from a Hollow that was aimed for a nearby first-year to reply, but you get the sense she's ready to see this dumb brute go down, same as you.

“Alright, here goes!”

Another dash through the air brings you into striking distance of the Menos' face. One punch... you'll settle this in one punch...

But the Menos has other plans. Your sword connects with its mask in a powerful strike, and the punch that connects with its spine like a hammer striking a wedge is enough to spiderweb the porcelain surface and lift foot-wide flakes off it in places. Unfortunately, its head is already in motion. Its slow but powerful headbutt halts your progress and sends you careening into the ground, where you crush the remains of an old house. Though you're momentarily stunned it doesn't hurt as bad as you'd think... until a giant, stony foot comes crashing down on you.

You only just manage to block it with Tenkotsuki's blade as the Menos tries to crush you beneath its foot. As your arms strain to keep its massive weight from killing you outright, you think you see you own veins popping out from the sheer amount of force you're exerting just to try and keep yourself alive. You've gotta wonder how your bones haven't snapped like kindling.

It depends if Ichigo getting hauled into his inner world every time he was on the brink of death was something any soul reaper could do or just something unique to him and Zangetsu. The way it was introduced via Urahara makes me think other soul reapers can experience the same thing but I'm not sure our vixen is going to manifest so conveniently.

I'm way more scared of getting medical attention than I am of this oversized blob of Hollows.

And we do have a Shikai, it's even unsealed, technically. She's kinda a stubborn bint who won't let us access her abilities until she thinks we're ready.
>>
>>39203377
This thing... it's crushing you to death.

From this position you can't generate any more force with your sword than what you're already giving it, and if you move your left arm from the spine of your blade you'll be crushed to death in an instant. The only kidō you can use here is the Ōkasen, Hadō 32... but if you take the time to give the full incantation, your left arm may give out from your injuries anyway. And you'll still be crushed.

But this is your only option, and if there's one thing you can't accept it's that you'd be beaten like this.

“Hadō 32, Ōkasen!” you roar, as Tenkotsuki's edge erupts with a powerful yellow arc of energy that lifts the bony foot up off of you... and continues, slicing clean through the Menos all the way out through it's shoulder.

Seeing your chance you push your way clear of the beast with a hirenkyaku as Kai and Kaoru stare in shock at your condition. Heh, you must really look like hell.

Not finished yet you turn over your shoulder, staring down the Menos as it reels in agony from the blast that was far more powerful than it had any right to be.

You can't help but grin as you extend your burned arm towards your target, gathering a brilliant, raging red flame at your palm. “Hadō 31, Shakka Hō.”

The red flame cannon fires with such force that it whips dust and dirt around the street where you're standing, and the shot races towards the Menos' battered mask.

>3d10 perception, DC 6.

>>39203623

She gave Riku the form so she could learn to use it.

With 0 power access, may as well not be a shikai though

I wonder, Seeing that a Menos is a few thousand hollows fused together into one being, does killing it mean a mass import of people into rukongai?

There's no way that's an un-incanted spell... its power is absolutely beyond what you should have been able to manage. Same with the earlier spell, which nearly split the Menos in half from the foot up.

As the spell you've cast pulverizes the Hollow's mask without even giving it a chance to scream in retort, you're left wondering exactly how the hell you did that. Or rather, how exactly Tenkotsuki helped you do that. Was that... her first technique?

Kaoru and Kai stare at you in obvious surprise.

“How did you manage that?” Kaoru demands as the last of the smaller Hollows is taken down by one of the Onmitsu you came here with. “Forget that, how are you still STANDING!?”

Looking down at yourself you realize she's right: you're covered in burns and blood from a point-blank spell as powerful as that Ōkasen, and most of the bones in your body should be broken.

It's around 200 years before canon start.

Unohana has been the Captain of the fourth for a while, at least centuries, maybe a couple thousand years, it's never mentioned exactly when she switched over. We may very well not be aware that she is the former first Captain of the 11th.

I think we're currently on Kenpachi #10 and Zaraki will be showing up at some point.
>>
>>39203712

she was the worst criminal ever before Yamamoto organized the shinigami into a proper army, and created squad 11, a.k.a. Team Murderhobo.

then Kidpachi scarred her neck and she totally got a massive boner from it and then left 11 for 4, which is for healing people and stuff. someone else took 11, and then adult Kenpachi killed him and took his place.

since she's being all Stepford Smile, I'm guessing this is after she transitioned to 4.

Kai offers a laugh as he leans against his shield, his left arm completely covered in bruises. “I don' think it's a who. More ova 'what', y'know?”

“I have the answer to both,” Yoruichi offers from somewhere behind you. “She's my idiot pupil, and she got herself all beaten up.”

“You should see the other guy,” you shrug nonchalantly.

Yoruichi grins manically at you. “I did... tall, dark, and stupid, right?”

“We handled the situation, ma'am,” Kaoru insists, trying to hide how tired she is, “though I must thank you for your concern.”

“Oh really? So I take it you can handle that one too, can'tcha?” your Captain smiles, pointing to a second Menos as it glares at you through the same hole in the sky.

Kaoru makes a strange, strangled little noise as Kai falls off his shield. “There's two ah those damn things? The hell? Today's jus' not my day, is it!?”

Quite the contrary, you think. He's still alive, and now from the look of it he's about to see your Captain in action. He should consider himself fortunate.

As Yoruichi turns to face the second Menos you try to lift your arms... but your right arm won't do it. It feels like it weighs a ton, and the fingers on your left hand won't extend properly.

Still, you force yourself. You don't want to be helpless... you refuse to feel helpless again.

“Bakudō 10, Hōrin!” you shout, the tendril of energy lancing out past Yoruichi as she begins her assault. The Hollow's mouth opens wide to fire a beam at your Captain, only to have its jaws slammed shut just like the first one.

And this time, just for an instant, you feel like you can hear Tenkotsuki's voice with a familiar pattern of words as your spell is unleashed.

Yoruichi gives a loud shout, cocking back her fist. “IKKOTSU!”

And with that one punch, she manages what it took you several tries to do: she blasts the Menos' mask into shards and dust and thick, black blood.

Then your head hits the ground, the last of your energy having been spent.
(1/2)
>>
>>39204876

so, it seems that the increased power is due to the spell being cast twice then, or at least that Tenkotsuki enhances it.
>>
>>39204876
"... where am I?" you mutter, your vision still darkened.

Instead of Yoruichi's voice, you hear a different woman speak. Calm, smooth tones seething with hatred can only mean one person: Captain Unohana.

"Please do not struggle, this is a delicate procedure," she informs you calmly. "I would hate to accidentally end the life of someone's subordinate..."

Oh shit. Oh shit. Ohsitohshitohshit... don't move. Don't move. Sit still, Riku, you got this.

"My everything hurts," you moan quietly.

"There there," she replies tenderly, sweetly, and yet somehow viciously. "I'll put your misery at an end soon enough."

"How's she doing, Retsu?" Yoruichi asks.

"Her body is surprisingly resilient. She should be up in a moment."

You can hear Yoruichi sigh. "That's good. Hey, Riku? Try not to nearly kill yourself next time you wanna show off for me, okay?"

You do your best to mutter your agreement. "How many?"

As your eyes open, you can see your Captain visibly tense. "Three members of the Kidō Corps, and the two Fēng brothers were killed, along with seven students. Were it not for you three, and for the Onmitsu's help, it would have been worse."

"There's already gonna be an inquiry tomorrow. Sorry, but you'll probably be called to testify before the Captains."

“Did I... do the right thing?” you wonder aloud.

Yoruichi sighs, squatting next to you. “Riku, you had no authority to give any orders at all. That said, I'm glad you did: they were exactly right.”

“Sometimes you can do everything right and still lose people,” she tells you, a trace of sad honesty in her tone. “That's how this job works. You saved as many people as you could, and took down an enemy nobody else could. Nobody's gonna hold it against you.”

“So what went wrong?” you press.

You recall the Hollow lizard you saw... and that feeling of dread. No doubt that was the first thing Kai or Kaoru told your Captain when she demanded to know why you were covered in burns and blood, because that's how she starts her explanation.

“That feeling you had probably had something to do with the three Kidō Corps guys we found,” she explained. “They were torn up with huge bite-marks, like a crocodile or somethin'. I figure it was a Hollow that could hide its spiritual presence.”

Unohana shifts somewhat uneasily, having likely come to the same troubling conclusion. “Such a thing...” she mutters.

After a few minutes Yoruichi helps you haul yourself to your feet. Looking around you can tell that the rest of the students are already gone. “Your friends took the students back to the dorms,” Yoruichi tells you, preempting your question. “And now I've gotta go tell the Fēng family what happened. I hate this part of the job.”

So have they ever answered what happens to a soul reaper or the like when it dies? Does it get reincaranted as a human? Go to a second death? I know Hollows killed by soul reapers get cleansed and wind up in the universe's largest shanty town, but I'm unsure of visa versa.

You give a brief word of thanks to Unohana, who excuses herself with a small bow. She also promises to send something to your barracks in the next few days that you may find useful in keeping you from requiring her services in the future.

“I gave the orders,” you observe somberly, turning to face your mentor. “I should be there to see the results.”

Yoruichi sighs heavily, nudging you in the ribs. “Look at you, acting all mature. Just don't let it get you down.”

You shrug. “Then we can go drink to their memories, or something.”

“Sounds like a plan.”

It takes only a minute or two to reach the ancestral home of the Fēng family, which is smaller and less grand than what you've seen of where Yoruichi grew up. But still, it's the kind of place most residents of Kusajishi have no idea even exists, or if they know they can't begin to imagine. You and your Captain are welcomed in quietly by several guards wearing the uniform of the Stealth Corps, and despite the fact that you can't see anyone's faces you get the impression people here are waiting on bad news.

Finally you are both ushered into a lamp-lit room, comfortable and immaculately kept, where an impossibly old woman sits in a modest kimono. In the shadows you see several Onmitsu sitting at attention, along with a single, sad-looking young girl.

“Executive,” the woman greets Yoruichi with a deep bow. “Can I take it to mean your presence here confirms the rumors? Were my two grandsons killed? Is that why they have not returned?”

“They died to save many students of the Academy from a Gillian,” Yoruchi explains carefully. “They absolutely did their duty and more.”

“Then I should be proud,” the older Fēng woman nods thoughtfully. “Their deaths will no doubt prove more worthwhile than mine. And what of this young woman?”

The matriarch of the ancient Fēng family turns her curious old eyes to you. “Is it true that you slayed the enemy that killed them?”
>>
>>39206134
Not knowing what else to say, you nod quietly. “I did.”

“In this case you have my gratitude,” she replies, “for avenging their deaths and completing their mission. I would request the pleasure of knowing your name.”

“Kusajishi Riku, ma'am.”

The old woman nods quietly. “I shall not forget this, Miss Kusajishi.” Though her grandmother looks to be at peace with what happened as Yoruichi excuses the two of you, the young girl you saw seems not to understand why. And you can't blame her: after all you survived, and her brothers didn't.

“I hate it,” Yoruichi mutters. “But damned if the Fēng family hasn't been loyal to a fault these last few hundred years. That old crone probably knows this game as well as I do, maybe better.”

You really aren't sure what to say. You have no real understanding of the politics at all, which means anything you could say really won't be helpful. Maybe in time you'll know enough about how this whole place works to know whether Yoruichi feels she's doing the right thing or not herself.

But for now, there's something to distract yourselves with: food and drink. You're damn near out of energy as it is.

Maybe, there's all sorts of shit Kubo can Kubo with the metaphysics of the spirit world. If he was lured in enough by the shekles to keep the story going I wouldn't be surprised if he had an arc where they successfully contacted god or whoever it was that made the key Aizen was after for reasons I don't care to remember. Ichigo finds out he is the reincarnated spirit of a Bodhisattva and that passing through soul society is merely a single step upon a soul's path to enlightenment but his former self died fighting a demon of wrath and thus Ichigo's soul is infact a Hollow-Quincy-Buddah-Devil-Shinigami and he must unlock the secrets of the Buddha and hell in order to activate his Pandemonium Nirvana Getsuga Tensho.

Yeah true.

Though I feel that we should ask our Zanpaktou about her opinion on all the quincy stuff, seeing as she is us and all.
>>
>>39206623
That sounds like exactly the kind of meta we'd get punished for. Also, I meant that the original idea is that the district militia would be a bunch of independent police/military units operated by individual districts. Without the zanpakto, kido and footwork of actual soul reapers, they could never hope to challenge the SS either alone or in concert, especially with the Gotei 13 (or 14, they'd be getting a lot of new reapers) poaching their best and brightest, though they'd still provide enough stability to make the slums gradually less shit.

Having a district militia with a bunch of ex-quincy would change that a bit.

>>39206765
Ah. Well that seems like both a good idea and the kind of thing Central 46 would hate for shitty reasons.

You quietly prod your Captain, asking her if she has a favorite place to go to drink questionable amounts of booze. She nods, allowing a slight smile to creep across her face.

"Yeah, I think I've got a place. It's been a while since I've seen her..."

It seems Yoruichi has a friend living in the Seireitei, another member of a royal family. Given the size of the home and its many servants you're expecting someone stuffy, but as it turns out that's the farthest thing possible from the truth.

"Sup, Yoruichi?" the woman, who turns out to be about your Captain's age from the look of her, greets you both casually. "Been a while, huh?"

Looking her over you have to wonder if she's really from a noble family: messy brown hair, loads of bandages and wraps around her remaining limbs, and a sword mounted to the back of her stump of a right arm. She carries a long stem pipe, currently alight, and wears the most provocative red outfit you've seen in the Seireitei so far. And good lord are her tits HUGE.

"Kūkaku!" Yoruichi replies warmly, giving the woman a strong embrace. "It's been too long. How's the family?'

"Same as usual, y'know?" Kūkaku replies, scratching at her ear. "Diplomatic crap, you know how it is. Got a cousin just set to graduate from the Academy though, so that's cool. Kaoru, I think she was."

"Wait, you're Kaoru's cousin?" you ask.

Kūkaku glares at you. "Introduce yourself first, dumbass."

You shrug and give her your name, then repeat your question.

"Yeah, she's sorta related to me, somehow," the heavily-bandaged Shiba tells you in a massive non-explanation. "I take it you're the one saved her butt today? Lemme get you a drink or two."

Yoruichi grins at her old friend. "You always know *just* the right words to cheer me up, Kūkaku."

You all do realize that drinking enough for the feng brothers means we only drink like two bottles or cups?

Yoruichi is probably going to drink enough to drown a small ocean.
Something which is literally made of liquid and cannot in any way drown.
>>
I for one want to see what happens if we get completely and utterly smashed. Will we wake up next to someone we weren't even drinking with last night? Will we wake up to find we did some insane shit like what happened in the hangover? Or will we wake up having passed out on Yurochi.

You are... Kusajishi Riku? Yeah, that's your name, you think. Probably. Your head hurts too much to think about it much more than that.

You don't want to move, but find yourself stirring from your comfortable place reclining in Yoruichi's lap... wait, what?

A quick look confirms that your Captain is leaning against some cushions in the corner, and you've been sleeping with your head and shoulders in her lap. Though just that slight movement sends your head reeling, you also manage to notice that she has a tattoo now on her left thigh, which is peeking out from her loosened kimono. From the edge of it you can see it looks like a simple circle, with stylized flames flickering around its perimeter: a sun. As you settle back down, you notice that your own state of dress isn't much more dignified.

Yoruichi herself seems to be waking up slowly and painfully. “Holy crap, what the hell was I doing?”

“Drinking,” you moan. “We mighta gotten a little competitive after the third bottle. How're you feeling?”

“Not too bad, all things considered,” she replies with a wince. “The coffee should help.”

“What's coffee?” you ask gingerly, wondering if that's something you should know about.

Yoruichi tries to explain to you that her family is one of the few with a supply of a legal stimulant, brewed from the roasted beans of a plant native to the living world. Apparently it's damn near magical for getting a tired, probably hung-over person going in the morning.

>Offer to go downstairs and retrieve the coffee?
>Just stay here and hope a servant brings some?
>Other?
>>
>>39207203
And now I have the image of a drunk Riku walking up to him and apologizing for havin' taken his sandles.

Wake up in a pile on top of Yoruichi, Kukaku, and Hanatarou's brother, with an arrancar bound and gagged in the next room, and old man genocide on the warpath because some mysterious masked figure apparently snuck into his quarters and stole all his sandals.

You could go downstairs and get some of this magical beverage... but that would mean getting up, and this is so tolerable. If it weren't for your raging headache and the stinging, uncomfortable sensation in your right leg you might even be able to call it nice. Sure enough a female attendant comes along after a few minutes anyway with two cups of something warm and wholesome-smelling.

“Was that true, what you said?” your Captain asks, setting herself up straight as the masked woman passes her the cup without asking so much as a single question. “About stealing the Old Man's sandals?”

You nod ever so gently before tasting the bitter brew cautiously. “Pretty sure it was him, yeah. Please don't tell anyone.”

“Oh, never,” she replies, looking down at you with a playful grin. “I wouldn't use information like that so lightly. I'll save it for a special occasion.”

“Demon. Nice tattoo, by the way.”

As she sips at the murky-looking beverage in her hand, Yoruichi brushes the right side of your own kimono aside to reveal an inked design you hadn't noticed before: a crescent moon, with an intricate pattern of entwining lines and arcs. Similar to Yoruichi's, but the opposite symbol, and with the lines focusing inwards instead of radiating outwards.

“There was some kinda meaning there,” she grimaces. “Hell of it is I can't remember what. Dammit Kūkaku, stabbing us full of ink when we were hammered... least she did a good job.”

You shudder to think about what could have happened had she done a bad job.

For now it seems you and your Captain are recovering from last night's excesses, but there's still the inquiry later today... so there's still plenty of time for things to go wrong again. One little step at a time, Riku. One step at a time.

It's main meaning is probably about duality and connection, the Sun and Moon are closely associated symbols that nonetheless are far apart. Her being the outwardly focused noticeable clan head, us being the inwardly focused knife in the dark. And yes, you can easily see romantic connotations in this.

Also, if we're going off of Japanese views of Sun/Moon deities, we're the masculine element, and Yoruichi is the feminine aspect.

It's kind of a semi-religious symbolism. It's supposed to be a tangible mark of having moved past Yoruichi having killed Riku/Rosa, like when even Tsukiyomi and Amaterasu can share the sky with each other
>>
>>39208081
Considering who did the tattoos, it's probably Kukaku's keikaku.

I'm guessing she got annoyed at Yoruichi angsting over killing us and took steps to rectify the situation.
>>
>>39208016
You would never have saved everyone, but choosing to defend the students saved more of them at the cost of the brothers dying in the process. Good rolls capitalized on how many students that choice ended up saving.

>>39208017
>>39208081
By the same token, however, Amaterasu was kind of considered the greater kami of the two.
>>
>>39208092

>>
>>39208092

>>
>>39208125

There's no other symbolism really aside from the fact that Kūkaku has a slightly twisted sense of humor about it. It doesn't really signify anything about the relationship that exists beyond the "forgiveness and friendship" aspect of it.
>>
>>39208219
Can we learn how to become a cat from Yurochi?
>>
>>39208196

>You would never have saved everyone, but choosing to defend the students saved more of them at the cost of the brothers dying in the process. Good rolls capitalized on how many students that choice ended up saving.

Save the students or save the brothers. In a lot of ways it sucks people had to die, but everyone who went knew risk and the students were the priority for the job.

give it a couple centuries and he just might figure it out himself.
>>
>>39208366
Which is part of what makes it amusing. Though I doubt too many people will have a chance to see them.

And Riku might be embarrassed once she works out the potential implications. And worries about people finding out. Especially Urahara, I can see Riku seriously wondering if there's anything between him and the Captain, and escalating to stalking.
>>
>>39208092

Riku showed up a few times and that was it.

Riku was more or less getting personal training from Yoruichi and Urahara.

Part of it likely was also to try and keep Riku kinda hidden. She still sometimes unknowingly activates Quincy powers on instinct when pushed into a corner.

I wonder how she prevented her soul from being eaten/absorbed by Yhwach.
